Al Qudra might have been a little unfortunate in the Grade 1 Summer Stakes, won by NEW CENTURY, at Woodbine in September. However, Andrew Balding's colt was well on top at the finish that day and this could be a fine opportunity to enhance an already impressive CV. Aidan O'Brien has landed the previous two renewals of this race and Henri Matisse is feared. Zulu Kingdom is another to consider.

Well beaten at 13-2 behind Mindframe when last of eight on his latest outing at Churchill Downs over 1m (good) in May. He is wearing blinkers for the first time. Having his first run for a new stable today, previously with Todd Pletcher. Any market support would make him of interest.

Canada Gate has been improving in recent starts and got off the mark here in August. Now in the care of John Sadler, he commands plenty of respect with the potential for more to come, but the vote goes to RIMPROTECTOR. The five-year-old wasn't disgraced last time in a stakes contest and a drop in grade should aid his cause. Others to note are No Secret and Lahaina Flavor.

1st (3) Hope Road	3	Juan Hernandez	Bob Baffert	She has won three times from 6f to 1m. Won on her latest outing when 1-2fav in the Grade 3 Torrey Pines Stakes at Del Mar over 1m in August, beating Nothing Like You by 5l. That was a career-best display and she boasts excellent claims to continue her progression.

HOPE ROAD made it a hat-trick of victories when running away with a Grade 3 over C&D in August and Bob Baffert's filly remains capable of further progression on just her seventh career start. Alpha Bella returned to form when runner-up in the Zenyatta at Santa Anita, which gives her every chance of being in the mix. Show Card is respected in her bid for a third win on the bounce.

Consistent performer who is likely to be competitive once again.

French 1000 Guineas runner-up Kathmandu and RAQIYA head a strong UK challenge, with the latter getting the vote. Owen Burrows' filly was awarded the Oak Tree at Goodwood, finishing ahead of Kathmandu (fifth), and has since been freshened up with this clearly being the plan. Aspen Grove and Sacred Wish appeal most of the remainder.

It's a shame that last year's winner Idiomatic misses out. In her absence, the leading 3yo filly Thorpedo Anna is likely to be odds on and if she's at anything like the level of her Travers second, she'll probably take this. However, that run is an outlier in her form - she's no standout on speed figures otherwise - and there's not much to be gained at the prices. The other US runners are ordinary for the level and there's not a lot of pace in the race, so ALICE VERITE is interesting for Japan at a big price, switching from turf, seeing as she's an out-and-out front-runner who's a sister to a Grade 3 winner on dirt. Emily Upjohn and Shahryar can put up the most resistance to the selection.

(3) City Of Troy	3	R L Moore	A P O'Brien	The outstanding 3yo on turf in Europe, winning the Derby, Eclipse and Juddmonte International (1m2f-1m4f); allowed a soft lead at York latest, with a following wind to help; this is a more competitive scenario on a new surface; sire was a top dirt horse but dam was a turf runner; dam's sire Galileo was sixth in this race at Belmont in 2001; trainer 0-14 in this race on dirt, with two placed.

The Derby winner trying to land the Breeders' Cup Classic is a tremendously exciting prospect and it will be a great achievement if City Of Troy pulls it off. No European runner has won this race on dirt since the French-trained Arcangues at Santa Anita in 1993. Aidan O'Brien has tried 14 times (on dirt), going so close with Giant's Causeway at Churchill Downs in 2000 and still chasing the prize all these years later. O'Brien's Galileo was the last Derby winner to have a go, but he was only sixth at Belmont in 2001 - and he's the sire of City Of Troy's dam, who was a grass horse. The latest Ballydoyle contender's own sire was a dirt runner - Justify, who won the Triple Crown in 2018 - but City Of Troy's suitability for this surface, so different to the turf over which he has been racing over, is the big question mark. He might be the best horse in the race but there are enough doubts to pass when it comes to taking short odds. Forever Young appealed before the draw, but he now looks up against it in trying to come from off the speed from the inside post. FIERCENESS (nap) and Arthur's Ride are of most interest. Full Count Felicia is the one to catch, although it's unclear whether they'll go 'full send' with her this time, as at Woodbine, seeing as she has stamina to prove. Either way, this sharper track should help her with the added distance and the others won't want to let her get away again. Cinderella's Dream has a turn of foot, but she missed an intended start in September and is up in trip. CONTENT appeals most. She rattled home for fourth in last year's 1m Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf and has since won the 1m4f Group 1 Yorkshire Oaks despite pulling hard, albeit helped by her track position. She'll want some pace in the race, but this sharp test at the distance should suit her headstrong nature and it's easy to ignore a couple of recent defeats on bad ground.[Ron Wood]
