2nd (7) Hat Trick Or Treat | 3 | S Khumalo | P P Labuschagne | Third in course maiden plate, 6l off winner last month dropped down to 6f; needs considering | ||||||
1st (5) Skittles Skies | 3 | P Mxoli | P P Labuschagne | Beaten three-quarters of a length at 9-2 in a maiden plate 33 days ago (Vaal Classic); one to take seriously if reproducing most recent effort | ||||||
3rd (6) Serrano | 3 | M Yeni | J A Soma | Near miss at Evs here upped to 1m½f in July; has been knocking on the door; every chance | ||||||
(1) Oklahoma Twister | 4 | Wes Marwing | H Van Der Westhuizen | Long-term maiden (0-15); finished ninth of 12 beaten 11l in a maiden plate upped to 1m2f last month; easy enough to take on | ||||||
(2) Under The Rainbow | 4 | L Nhlapo | B Webber | Finished towards the rear of 13 in a maiden plate here (6f) last month; has a bit to find with Hat Trick Or Treat (eighth) on that running; unlikely winner | ||||||
(3) Stop The Traffic | 4 | K A Brewer | C J Lensley | Beaten 15l into ninth over C&D (maiden plate) latest; not easy to fancy | ||||||
(4) Yukon | 4 | P Strydom | M/a Azzie | Was fifth of eight on his debut at 6-1 at Turffontein Standside, behind a next-time-out winner; considered | ||||||
(8) Mickey Blue Eyes | 3 | D De Gouveia | W H Marwing | Beaten 8l into seventh in a maiden plate (Vaal Classic) when dropped to 7½f last month; should be on the premises with yard in good form | ||||||
(9) Rawalpindi | 3 | N Klink | G J Maroun | Last of six in a maiden plate (Turffontein Standside) last month; makes no appeal as stamina to prove at this trip | ||||||
(10) Prolific Star | 3 | G Lerena | M/a Azzie | Dam was a race winner; stable has a good record with newcomers; remains to be seen whether he'll be clued up enough to get off the mark at the first attempt - market could reveal prospects | ||||||
(11) Pyro Edition | 3 | K Matsunyane | C J Lensley | Finished fifth latest on his debut, but beaten only 5l (25-1) at Turffontein Standside |
SERRANO is a strong pick. He has scope for improvement. Hat Trick Or Treat is one to consider while Skittles Skies looks a serious threat, and Yukon should be in the mix despite a bad run last time.

3rd (10) Instant Attraction | 3 | T Mayhew | C Mayhew | Held eighth of nine but was making her first appearance here at 20-1; should improve with a run under her belt although it was only a modest start | ||||||
2nd (1) Cat O'Clock | 4 | C Habib | A P Peter | Has maintained her consistent level of form and has knocked on the door on occasions; ran encouragingly when 1½l third in a fillies maiden plate last month here (6f); had several of these rivals behind her; in with big shout if replicating most recent run | ||||||
1st (5) Pearl In Her Crown | 3 | M Yeni | P F Matchett | Respectable fourth over this trip at Greyville in May; has to be respected | ||||||
(3) Hokaai My Meisie | 4 | C Maujean | A P Peter | Beaten 4½l when sixth of 13 but didn't run badly at 33-1 in a fillies maiden plate here (6f) two weeks ago on her second outing for this trainer; definite chance | ||||||
(4) Pass The Baton | 4 | S Khumalo | C I Jonker | Yet to get her head in front after 14 starts; finished seventh dropped to 6f two weeks ago finishing 14l behind the winner; was an encouraging third three races ago and if in the same mood should get involved | ||||||
(6) Bella's Charm | 3 | M V'Rensburg | F Bronkhorst | Fourth, not beaten that far (14-1, this distance, Turffontein Inside, fillies maiden plate) last month; the third won since; was an encouraging third four races ago and if in the same mood one to watch out for | ||||||
(7) Bella Boop Boop | 3 | L Nhlapo | C J Lensley | Behind a bunch of these in a fillies maiden plate last month here over 6f when finishing towards the rear of 13 on her second outing for this trainer; blinkers been left off; not likely to get competitive | ||||||
(8) Empress Wu | 3 | D Schwarz | J S Roux | Held on her debut at 125-1 running here over 6f; possible improver with that outing under her belt although has plenty to find | ||||||
(9) Flight Time | 3 | N Klink | J A Soma | 20-1 chance when finishing sixth of eight in a fillies maiden plate (Turffontein Inside) last month; unlikely to trouble the principals | ||||||
(11) Lady Camellia | 3 | K Matsunyane | M N Houdalakis | Beaten 15l when seventh on her debut at Vaal Classic in April at 25-2; could improve from first run although a leap forward required to win this | ||||||
(12) Ruby Rebel | 3 | P Mxoli | P F Matchett | Beaten on her debut at Vaal Classic at 40-1; could improve although needs to | ||||||
(13) To Be Free | 3 | J Gates | A P Peter | Held on her debut at Turffontein Standside in June at 14-1; must step up | ||||||
(2) Line In The Sky | 4 | K A Brewer | L Karriem | Fair effort in a fillies maiden plate two weeks ago here (6f); she should give it a bold bid |
Pearl In Her Crown is likely to attract market support, and Bella's Charm could have a say. However, CAT O'CLOCK is a firm choice. She has been running to a consistent level lately and remains unexposed with potential for more to come.

1st (2) Love Tap | 4 | J Penny | P F Matchett | Unable to land a blow when sixth of eight stepped up to this trip 13 days ago; not always shown an awful lot since winning a maiden plate at Turffontein Standside in December; unlikely to trouble the principals as tougher task in this company | ||||||
2nd (6) Guy Alexander | 6 | G Lerena | C J Lensley | Posted respectable effort when beaten 2l in a handicap and dropped down to 1m2f (Greyville) last month; a long time since his last win and yet to win over this distance; now competes off a higher mark; chance as has shown signs of promise | ||||||
3rd (1) Sneak Preview | 4 | K A Brewer | M N Houdalakis | Ran a solid race finishing third (this distance Vaal, fillies handicap) last month; dropping in the ratings; more on her plate this time but looks like a player | ||||||
(3) Zoombomber | 4 | M V'Rensburg | C Spies | Displayed a fair level of form when just under 4l third (handicap, Greyville Polytrack) last month; managed only one success | ||||||
(4) Cantfoolme | 5 | J R Syster | B Webber | Upped to 1m1f (Turffontein Inside) finishing 18l behind the winner last month; this represents a step up in class so not taken to make a serious impact | ||||||
(5) Gimme The Flame | 5 | R Danielson | H E Adamson | Far from disgraced (beaten just over 2l) in a handicap latest at Vaal Classic, form of that received boost with the first, sixth and seventh obliging since; no winning form at this trip and infrequent winner; handicapper has eased the burden | ||||||
(7) Count Your Chances | 5 | C Maujean | F Bronkhorst | Yet to win over 1m and not really built on success in a fillies handicap five months ago at Vaal Classic; not beaten too far at 7-1 when fourth of ten over C&D last month; now competing off a lower mark | ||||||
(8) Green Sceptre | 5 | K Matsunyane | S G Tarry | Managed only one success; not disgraced when fifth in a handicap four weeks ago here over 1m½f; form franked by a next-time-out winner; handicapper has eased the burden |
This looks a tight race but GUY ALEXANDER gets the nod. The otherwise interesting Sneak Preview has a stamina query to answer at this trip, and Zoombomber could be vulnerable to a less exposed rival.

3rd (5) Teo Torriatte | 4 | D Schwarz | C I Jonker | Not beaten too far at 40-1 when fourth of nine in a fillies handicap with Pretty In Pearls just behind (Turffontein Inside) last month; handicapper has eased the burden | ||||||
2nd (6) Ideal Future | 6 | T Mayhew | L Kruger | Stepped up to this trip when she had Angel's Wish behind latest (Vaal Classic), getting the job done by 1½l; now competes off a higher mark; now down in grade and she's an attractive contender | ||||||
1st (7) Damova | 6 | M Yeni | J A Soma | Achieved only a sole win; ran a solid race finishing runner-up in a fillies handicap four weeks ago here over 1m1f; in the mix | ||||||
(1) Cerulean Dancer | 5 | C Habib | F Bronkhorst | Scored narrowly in a fillies handicap (Turffontein Inside) three weeks ago; been raised a little in the ratings; should not be far away | ||||||
(2) Pretty In Pearls | 6 | K Matsunyane | P F Matchett | Not beaten that far (just under 4l, went off 16-1, fillies handicap) last month at Turffontein Inside; has been dropped by the handicapper | ||||||
(3) Crimson Forest | 4 | P Mxoli | P F Matchett | Not always shown an awful lot since winning a fillies maiden plate at Turffontein Standside in January; finished last of ten at Turffontein Standside six weeks ago; others appeal more despite this looking a little easier than last time | ||||||
(4) Angel's Wish | 6 | K A Brewer | W H Marwing | Didn't offer much when fourth of eight three weeks ago at Turffontein Inside; makes little appeal | ||||||
(8) Have A Party | 5 | M K Katjedi | P F Matchett | Just a sole success to her name and hardly a model of consistency; well beaten when ninth latest (Vaal Classic); slightly higher rating to contend with; others appeal more with stamina to prove over this distance |
This is a difficult race to call; Damova is beginning to look exposed but IDEAL FUTURE may prove the pick. She has won once over this CD. Cerulean Dancer may have her stamina stretched over this trip.

1st (5) Arilena | 6 | T Mayhew | L Karriem | Fifth, not beaten that far (25-1) in November (Turffontein Standside) on her second outing for this trainer; first start for new trainer; returns from break; facing a tougher assignment than in November, hard to recommend | ||||||
2nd (3) Axel Collins | 5 | C Habib | A P Peter | On a lengthy losing run; was held in eighth (handicap, over this distance, Vaal Classic) 14 days ago; drops in class and needs considering | ||||||
3rd (2) In The Ether | 6 | M Yeni | G J Maroun | Been generally quiet since successful in a fillies handicap at Turffontein Inside in February but has won here; finished towards the rear of 13 beaten 8l (Vaal Classic) last month; has been eased in the weights | ||||||
(1) Circus Lights | 5 | N Klink | G J Maroun | 7-2 chance when finishing fourth of five in a handicap at Turffontein Standside latest | ||||||
(4) Smashing | 4 | S Khumalo | C Binda | Things finally dropped right (this trip Vaal Classic, maiden plate) last month, getting the job done by just under 2l; holds major claims | ||||||
(6) Twice As Wild | 6 | M K Katjedi | G J Maroun | Just over 1l third to the reopposing Inafix (handicap) on Thursday here (5½f) | ||||||
(7) Inafix | 4 | K A Brewer | C Binda | Scored by a slim margin in a handicap when beating Twice As Wild (third) and Miraculous Man (last) on Thursday here; likely to be involved | ||||||
(8) Miraculous Man | 5 | P Mxoli | G J Maroun | Not really built on success in a maiden plate in January at Fairview; finished last of 15 in a handicap (over 5½f here) last week 17l behind Inafix; difficult to build a solid case for him | ||||||
(9) Smelting | 7 | J Gates | B H Stidolph | Well beaten when ninth (this trip Vaal Classic, fillies handicap) last month; managed only one win; far from solid as faces a stiffer task |
Twice As Wild should be on the shortlist while Inafix is capable of running well but the losing run is disheartening. But SMASHING looks a solid choice. She is going for a second success at this trip.

1st (7) Tchaikovsky | 6 | J Penny | J S Roux | A number of wins on straight tracks but a long time since he saw any reward for his efforts; soundly beaten when eighth in a stakes race (Vaal Classic) last month; faces a stiff task | ||||||
2nd (3) Rollwiththepunches | 6 | T Mayhew | R R Magner | Boasts a creditable three from seven record at this track but on a lengthy losing run; not disgraced when fourth of six over this distance at Turffontein Standside (handicap) six weeks ago; others have more pressing claims | ||||||
(1) Karangetang | 5 | S Khumalo | J J Van Vuuren | Respectable effort over this trip at Turffontein Standside (handicap) 38 days ago; hasn't won for a while; expected to be in the thick of things if building on last performance | ||||||
(2) Chasing Happiness | 4 | K Matsunyane | J J Van Vuuren | Won by just over 1l (Turffontein Inside) two weeks ago; the only filly in the race; ought to be on the premises | ||||||
(4) Longsword | 4 | G Lerena | S G Tarry | Third of ten (this distance, Turffontein Standside, handicap) six weeks ago, form franked by next-time-out winner Kinshin Sha; a course winner | ||||||
(5) Kinshin Sha | 4 | M V'Rensburg | M N Houdalakis | Won by just under 3l (this trip, Vaal Classic, handicap) last month; has run well here recently; comes from a stable in form and cannot be ignored | ||||||
(6) Smith And Wesson | 5 | M Yeni | P F Matchett | A long time since he saw any reward for his efforts; was fifth of six, beaten just over 5l, in a stakes race over C&D latest; others are preferred |
This is a competitive race but CHASING HAPPINESS is the most likely winner here. She will be suited by this distance. Karangetang rates a serious danger.

---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
2nd (5) Crimson Cloud | 4 | C Habib | A P Peter | Registered first success (this trip, Turffontein Standside, fillies maiden plate) latest, form boosted by Saigon Suzie and Together Again; first attempt at a handicap; has to be considered | ||||||
3rd (11) Mix The Magic | 6 | P Mxoli | P P Labuschagne | Finished third but wasn't beaten too far (just over 3l) in a fillies handicap four weeks ago here (7f); has claims | ||||||
1st (8) Raining Rubies | 5 | J R Syster | H Van Der Westhuizen | Has won here before; runner-up of eight in a fillies handicap over this trip at Turffontein Standside five weeks ago; form is given substance by race throwing up a next-time-out winner | ||||||
(1) Glawari | 4 | J Penny | P F Matchett | Well beaten sixth in a fillies handicap at Vaal Classic last month | ||||||
(2) Shampimpi | 4 | D Schwarz | C Dawson | Has won here before; well beaten behind the second, Raining Rubies, (fillies handicap) latest at Turffontein Standside when beaten 8l | ||||||
(3) Princess Lola | 4 | R Danielson | R R Magner | Solid performance to finish second at 14-1 (over this trip, Turffontein Inside) last month | ||||||
(4) Micke's Bomb | 4 | G Lerena | F Bronkhorst | Hasn't won for a while and no winning form at this trip; upped to 1m (fillies handicap) last month here when beaten a fair way (6l); finished second at Vaal five weeks ago and too soon to write her off - should go well | ||||||
(6) Inventrix | 5 | S Khumalo | F Bronkhorst | Not beaten too far at 20-1 when fourth of 13 in a fillies handicap last month at Vaal Classic; form boosted with the third winning since; not always shown an awful lot since winning a fillies handicap at Vaal in November but a course winner; dropping in the weights; definitely of interest | ||||||
(7) Kylie's Angel | 4 | M Yeni | A P Peter | Some way behind the runner-up, Princess Lola, (this trip Turffontein Inside, stakes race) three weeks ago when beaten a fair way (15l); has won here in the past; first attempt at a handicap; deserves respect despite defeat last time as she was successful two runs back | ||||||
(9) Time To The Moon | 5 | M K Katjedi | C Dawson | Last of nine (fillies handicap) at Vaal Classic in April; returns from break; starts out for new yard; this looks a tough ask | ||||||
(10) Flying Broomstick | 5 | N Klink | B B Ruiters | You have to go back a long way to find her only win; safely held in seventh (fillies handicap, Vaal Classic) last month; blinkers now left off; hard to entertain |
This tight-looking race poses an interesting puzzle but it's hard to get away from CRIMSON CLOUD who scored last time making her a leading player from a form perspective and has been a winner over the trip. Mix The Magic should give a good account of herself even though she has gone a while without winning, this trip could be a bit far for Micke's Bomb, and Kylie's Angel has winning CD form.
