(1) Ant Colony
2Hollie DoyleEve Johnson HoughtonApril foal by Invincible Army; 20,000euros yearling; half-brother to Italian 6f-7.5f 2yo winner Scapestrato; dam unraced half-sister to Italian 6f/7.5f 2yo Listed winner Mujadil Lachy out of Italian Listed-placed 5f 2yo winning half-sister to two Italian sprint Group 3 winners; stable has a fine record with 2yo newcomers and has already had a couple go in this year, but quite a late foal and already gelded.
3rd (3) Rashabar
2Tom MarquandBrian MeehanJanuary foal by Holy Roman Emperor; first foal; dam unraced half-sister to winners River Of Stars (1m6f Group 3), Apadanah (German 1m6f Listed) and Ancona (Listed-placed 7f 2yo) out of unraced half-sister to German 1m2f Group 3 winner Amazona; stable can get a 2yo ready first time, but his pedigree suggests he may improve for further in due course.
(8) Spring
2Finley MarshRichard HughesJanuary foal by Kodi Bear; 75,000gns yearling; sister to 6f winners Scarlet Bear (Group-placed; RPR 98) and Elinor Dashwood (2yo; 78); dam placed 7f AW (60), out of 6f 2yo/7f Group 3 winning half-sister to useful 7f-1m winner Bronze Prince; stable going great guns with its older horses and market support would be significant.
2nd (5) Star Anthem
2Richard KingscoteClive CoxJanuary foal by Starspangledbanner; 45,000euros yearling; half-brother to four winners including Chartwell House (7f including 2yo; RPR 96), Seven Brothers (6f-7f including 2yo; 93) and Stratton Street (5f 2yo; 92); dam 6f winner (102), sister to 1m Group 3 winning dam of smart winners at 6f and 1m2f; stable has a good record with 2yo newcomers and the market should be revealing.
(6) Tropical Storm
2David ProbertAndrew BaldingFebruary foal by Eqtidaar; 22,000gns foal, 50,000gns yearling; half-brother to winners Purosangue (5f/Listed 6f 2yo; RPR 103) and Liberty Breeze (7f; 62); dam prolific 5f-6f winner (98), half-sister to useful 5f winner Tumblewind out of 5f/6f winner African Breeze; plenty to like on pedigree and stable won this in 2021 and 2022.
4th (7) Running Queen
2Oisin MurphyOllie SangsterFebruary foal by Kingman; half-sister to French winners Momarasa (1m/1m1f; RPR 98), Zawaaya (6.5f AW including 2yo; 98), Tawafuq (7.5f; 79) and Taraateel (1m AW; 66); dam 5.5f-1m2f winner (including 6f Group 3; 115), sister to 1m Group 3 winner Wusool; something to like on pedigree and worth monitoring in the market.
(4) Reposado
2David EganDominic Ffrench DavisMarch foal by Wootton Bassett; £200,000 yearling; half-brother to winners Trillium (5f/6f 2yo including Group 2; RPR 109), American Kestrel (Group-placed 6.5f 2yo; 105) and Mohawk King (6f-8.5f including 2yo/AW/dirt; 102); dam Group-placed 7f 2yo winner (105); nicely bred colt whose stable did well with 2yo newcomers early last season and had one go in at Wolverhampton last week.
1st (2) Hawaiian
2Sean LeveyRichard HannonFebruary foal by Kodiac; first foal; dam 7f AW winner only start (RPR 63), closely related to 7f AW 2yo winner Embrace, half-sister to numerous winners including useful Culturati (6f/7f including 2yo) and Valiant (1m2f) out of 1m Listed/Italian Group 3 winner Whazzis; well worth monitoring in the market for last year's winning stable.

The market will be crucial with regard to these newcomers. Tropical Storm (second choice) has something to recommend him on breeding and the stable won this in 2021 and 2022, but preference is for REPOSADO who cost a bit and whose stable has already struck with a 2yo newcomer this season.[David Bellingham]

4th (7) Spanish Star
9David ProbertPatrick ChamingsBetter than ever as an 8yo last year, winning handicaps at Goodwood (6f) and Epsom (7f); 6f on slow ground ideal but he's returning to action off a 2lb higher mark then when sixth in this race last year.
(8) Indian Creak
7Nicola CurrieJack ChannonWon three 6f handicaps on ground slower than good; 2lb higher than for the latest of them and he's come on for his reappearance in each of the last two seasons.
(17) Safari Dream
4Joe FanningRod MillmanShould step forward with his reappearance behind him but all his winning has been done at 5f; 6f on slow ground may stretch his stamina.
(13) Buccabay
4Mia NichollsEve Johnson HoughtonHis two turf wins have come on good or faster (promise on good to soft); went close off this mark at Kempton in October but even that will need bettering if he's to come out on top.
(12) Justcallmepete
5Oisin MurphyJames EvansGood record on AW but he's 0-10 on turf; lower rated in this sphere but he's been shown his best turf form on good or quicker; Oisin Murphy a good booking but he'll need the ground to dry out.
(15) Holkham Bay
4Saffie OsborneWilliam KnightPossibly just circumstance at this stage but he has shown his best form on AW; this mark not beyond him but could probably do with the ground drying out.
2nd (11) Chairmanoftheboard
8Connor BeasleyJack Channon6f on slow ground ideal and he's on a good mark; that's been the case for a while though and you have to go back to October 2021 for the last of his four wins; should be sharper for last month's reappearance; place claims.
(14) Aplomb
8David EganJane Chapple-HyamLosing run goes back to 2020 but he regularly caught the eye with strong finishes in 6f handicaps last year; resumes on a good mark and can surely pop up at some point this year.
3rd (2) Bosh
5Joe LeavyRichard HannonC&D winner as a 2yo; back in peak form on AW this winter, winning 6f handicaps at Chelmsford and Lingfield in 2024; 3lb rise for latest narrow win could find him out and he could probably do with the ground drying out.
1st (3) Wiltshire
4Tom MarquandWilliam HaggasRan six times for the Meades, winning twice on AW but unplaced in four turf runs (best effort over 7f on good); still has potential and it will be interesting to see how he fares in the betting on his stable debut (sold for 92,000gns last October).
(5) Billyjoh
4Frederick LarsonMichael ApplebyProgressive sprinter; doesn't help himself with slow starts but he ran another solid race when fourth in a red-hot AW handicap at Newcastle on Good Friday (6f); handles good and soft turf; should have a nice prize in him this summer.
(6) Gisburn
5Sean LeveyRichard HannonEnded his losing run when getting up late in a Goodwood handicap (6f, soft) last October (first run after a gelding operation); good efforts on AW on his next two starts; below par on New Year's Day but he returns to turf on a fair mark and conditions should suit; should go well.
(10) Divine Libra
4William BuickCharles HillsStill has low mileage and his two wins have come on slow ground; near miss at Newmarket off 2lb lower last summer; gelded since last seen; more to come this year and should make his mark at this level.
5th (9) Knebworth
4Ethan JonesRichard HughesSecond in a red-hot AW handicap on his reappearance and stepped forward from that when winning at Doncaster last month (6f, soft; cheekpieces first time); backward step at Kempton 13 days ago but likely to give his running.
(4) Fresh
7Daniel TudhopeJames FanshaweClassy handicapper in his time but just flashes of his former glory in a quiet 2023 campaign; now 8lb lower than when a close fifth in the Wokingham and his Kempton return should have blown away the cobwebs; all ground comes alike to him and he's capable of a big run.
(16) Bernardo O'Reilly
10Sean D BowenRichard SpencerVeteran who benefited from the pace collapsing in the corresponding event last year, sweeping home to defy a 5lb higher mark; last month's return at Doncaster should have brought him on and he's likely to be arriving on the scene late; yard going well.
(1) Grand Traverse
4Hollie DoyleArchie Watson7f winner on soft ground for Andre Fabre last spring; absent for 312 days prior to his stable debut at Newcastle (6f) last month and he made a mockery of his opening mark, always prominent and coming home clear of his eight rivals (well backed); up 8lb but unexposed as a sprinter and there could well be more in the tank.

Bernardo O'Reilly has conditions to suit and turns up 5lb lower than when sweeping through late to win the corresponding event 12 months ago. He's high on the list, along with the frustrating pair Aplomb and Chairmanoftheboard, while Fresh and the intriguing Wiltshire also have something to recommend them. The preferred four on a long shortlist are Gisburn, Billyjoh, Divine Libra (second choice) and GRAND TRAVERSE and Archie Watson's 4yo is a fascinating contender. He'll need to be bordering on Listed class to give the weight away but the manner of his Newcastle win last month, along with his market strength that day, offers hope that might be the case. A winner on soft ground in France, he tanked through that Newcastle contest and looks one to keep on the right side.[Paul Smith]

3Sean LeveyRichard Hannon170,000euros buy last May; 9-1, about 2l fourth of 12 in maiden at Lingfield (1m, AW) 15 days ago, coming from towards the rear in promising style; bred to be suited by at least this far; considered each-way.
(3) Beatrice Shilling
3James DoylePeter Chapple-Hyam140,000gns yearling with useful middle-distance pedigree; second favourite for novice at Leicester (1m, good to soft) last October, launching a challenge from over 2f out but readily seen off by the favourite; that second of eight was fair form and this Oaks entry can improve.
6th (5) Bittalemon
3Tom MarquandWilliam Haggas320,000gns foal; third foal; half-sister to 1m AW 2yo/1m4f turf winner Bizarre Law (RPR 91); dam 1m AW 2yo winner (72), sister to Canadian 1m4f Grade 1 winner Cannock Chase and 1m2f Group 2 winner Pisco Sour, half-sister to 1m4f Group 1 winner Star Catcher; Dubawi filly from a top yard which runs two; one to note.

3William BuickCharlie ApplebyBy Shamardal; third foal; closely related to 7f winner Spring Promise (including German Listed; RPR 101), half-sister to 6f-1m winner Naval Crown (including Group 1; 121); dam French 7f/1m winner (104) out of 1m2f Listed winner; one to take seriously with powerful connections.
(4) Beeley
3Kieran ShoemarkJohn & Thady GosdenStoutly bred; made a promising debut in maiden at Nottingham (1m, heavy) last October, going down by a whisker having stuck on well; 6-4 there two weeks later but unseated and got loose and was withdrawn; Oaks entry whose debut puts her top on ratings and her stable has a fine record in this race.
3rd (10) Lasting Love
3Oisin MurphyAndrew Balding300,000gns yearling; has a good middle-distance pedigree and her debut third of 11 in maiden at Doncaster (7f, soft) in September, rallying strongly, showed plenty of ability and promise; Oaks entry who is on the shortlist.

Top of the list on the limited racecourse evidence is LASTING LOVE who shaped so well at Doncaster in September. It's Beeley who's top rated and she hails from the Gosden yard which has won four of the last eight runnings, but her second racecourse appearance didn't go so well as she got loose. She's still feared most, although the newcomers are a promising bunch on paper and they may be headed by Magic Dream and Bittalemon given the strength of their yards.[Richard Austen]

3rd (3) Brave Call
3Hollie DoyleHeather Main125-1 at Leicester (7f, soft) on debut when showing modest form; left that way behind when running-on third of 11 at 50-1 in maiden at Newmarket (1m, good to firm) in October, having met trouble in running inside the final 2f, and looks capable of better still.

(2) Ciro Di Marzio
3Rossa RyanRalph BeckettJustify colt who was bought for almost 520,000euros last March; down the field at Leicester (7f, soft) in September but won a novice at Kempton (7f, AW) one month later; that win was in a tight finish but this late foal is an Irish Derby entry and seems to have plenty of potential.

2nd (10) Vanish
3James DoyleHarry Charlton200,000gns yearling by Galileo; third foal; brother to Group-placed 1m 2yo winner Anchorage (RPR 102); dam unraced half-sister to 1m2f Group 1 winners Vadawina and Vazira, and to 1m2f/10.5f Group 3 winner Vadapolina; late foal; from a stable whose 3yos are going well, including with a winning newcomer last week and a Newmarket maiden winner on Tuesday.
6th (12) Warda Jamila
3Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingHalf-sister to stable's high-class stayer Coltrane; fourth in a 7f novice at Leicester in September and justified favouritism from the front in eight-runner novice there (1m, again on good to soft) four weeks later, the latter in clearcut style from Beatrice Shilling (runs 2.42 here today); Oaks entry who needs plenty of respect.
5th (8) Sam Hawkens
3Sean LeveyRichard HannonGalileo half-brother to 6f winner Minnetonka (RPR 95); dam Group-placed 6f 2yo winner (106), sister to 6f 2yo Group 3 winner; 9-1, seemed to travel best long way when second of seven in novice at Goodwood (1m1f, soft) in October, which was a highly promising start; Dante and Derby entry.

3David EganRoger Varian$575,000 yearling; brother to last year's 1m2f-1m4f winner Savethelastdance (including Irish Oaks/2nd in Oaks; RPR 116); 15-8 favourite for seven-runner maiden at Newcastle (1m2f, AW) in November, finding one too good for him but moving nearly 7l clear of a fair sort in third; has Derby and Dante entries; high on the list for form and potential.
9th (1) Arabian Tribe
3William BuickCharlie Appleby750,000gns yearling; brother to 7f/1m winner Noble Dynasty (RPR 113), half-brother to winners including Barney Roy (7f-1m4f including Group 1; 124); 8-11 for maiden at Wolverhampton (8.6f, AW) in December and always front rank before rallying past the runner-up; looks sure to stay 1m2f and a useful prospect at the least.

Promise abounds in this field and not just with the three who have won already. Arabian Tribe could be the pick of those, ahead of Warda Jamila and Ciro Di Marzio, but MR HAMPSTEAD showed plenty in defeat at Newcastle in November and may now be able to go one better. Sam Hawkens is also shortlisted.[Richard Austen]

9th (11) Educator
5Luke MorrisMichael ApplebyWell beaten in sole run on soft; handicap debut in April 2022 was his last win (for William Haggas); some minor honours last year at up to 2m and he's been coming down the weights in his three AW runs for new yard, showing his most promise for them in February latest (behind Spartan Army); case can be made.
6th (1) Beamish
6Hollie DoyleArchie WatsonWon his first three races before further smart form in 2022 when third in two Group 3s; disappointing favourite when upped to 2m that October and unraced since, having been sold out of Paddy Twomey's for 32,000gns last July and gelded; the trip and layoff give him a fair bit to prove.
8th (2) L'Astronome
5Jason HartHugo PalmerFour wins at up to 1m7f in France, including a 1m3f Group 2 in May 2022; good debut for this yard in Listed race at Chester last September but soundly beaten in a Group 3 at Ascot three weeks later, both over 1m4f; had wind surgery since; worth a market check but probably vulnerable.
(9) Yorkindness
5Joe FanningCharlie JohnstonFive turf wins over 2m/2m1f last June-September, none on worse than good to soft; not quite so good on soft at Chester (first run there) off today's career-high mark on final outing; needs to find more improvement.
4th (4) Not So Sleepy
12Tom MarquandHughie Morrison12yo who has retained a rare zest, demonstrated last year with a front-running Flat win here (1m5f, heavy; stays well) and a second triumph in the Fighting Fifth Hurdle; remote in the Champion Hurdle last month but no shock were he to bounce straight back with a bold show today.
1st (8) Prince Alex
7David EganDominic Ffrench DavisLosing run goes back to July 2021; three more trainer changes since and he took minor honours off this mark in six-runner races last term on his two runs for current yard, having earlier been a well-beaten fourth in this race after an absence; has only once been beyond 1m6f otherwise (well beaten); others are more persuasive.

5th (5) Spartan Army
5Rossa RyanAlan KingFair hurdler on varied ground; Flat form took off again this winter with the switch to AW, winning three times before his creditable third at Newcastle on finals day, all over 2m; turf mark has risen too, so the form needs to be transferred, but he's respected as an in-form candidate.
7th (3) Metier
8Saffie OsborneHarry FryHurdles career seems to have gone off the rails but two big runs on Flat last spring, notably with last-gasp win in the 2m2f Chester Cup (soft); 4lb higher today; has a recent hurdles run under his belt and although rain rather than drying conditions would be preferred for him, he's not ruled out.
3rd (7) Grand Providence
4Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingHad a good record in 1m6f-2m2f handicaps last term before her disappointing show in the Cesarewitch (11-1) on final outing; those solid runs were on varied ground but peak efforts on good; given the way she won on penultimate outing she could still have potential.

Her Cesarewitch run was disappointing but that's the only such one from GRAND PROVIDENCE (nap) last season and she may now be about to resume her improvement. Robert Johnson looks sure to provide resistance but that grand old-timer Not So Sleepy is feared most and Metier is another to take seriously.[Richard Austen]

3Richard KingscoteAndrew BaldingSimilar form over 7f then 6f on all four starts as 2yo, on good to firm ground and on soft/heavy; won comfortably at 1-2 in a novice at Goodwood before his fourth of nine in Listed race at Doncaster; gelded since; respected but needs to find a bit extra.

Christian David ran well enough on his recent reappearance to be given a positive mention and he's the only one with a run under his belt this term. Preference, however, is for his stablemate CIRCE in the belief that she is about to emerge as an improved 3yo. She tried a Group 3 on her final 2yo start, as did Telemark, while Get The Music On (second choice) represents Clive Cox who has won the last two runnings of this race, but all the runners have to be considered seriously.[Richard Austen]

The market should provide plenty of clues for these debutantes. Bella Taslina makes the shortlist on account of her stable's excellent record with 3yo newcomers, while Tarqeez has a nice pedigree and the stable won a division of this race two years ago. Classic entries for Star Style and PRIDE AND POWER suggest they are held in some regard, with preference for the latter who cost 260,000gns as a yearling and makes plenty of appeal on breeding.[David Bellingham]
