(6) Sparks Fly
4Laura PearsonDavid LoughnaneFront-runner who won heavy-ground C&D handicap last September and easily made all in French Listed race (1m, heavy) the following month; however, she's on different ground today, as when soundly beaten in Group 3 at the Curragh (1m1f, good) in July, and she's probably vulnerable.
4th (1) Cicero's Gift
4Rossa RyanCharles HillsLightly raced 4yo who defied an absence and a lofty mark to make it four wins from his first five starts at Sandown (1m, soft) in July; disappointing at Goodwood since but quick ground may not have suited; showed promise on good going at Royal Ascot 2023; can have a big say if back to his best.
3rd (5) Witch Hunter
5Sean LeveyRichard HannonHis form can be up and down and last month's near-miss in the Group 2 Hungerford Stakes (7f, good to firm) came at Newbury, a track which brings out the best in him (won the same race last year on good to soft); however, he's shown promise at this course, he should be fine now back up to 1m, and has leading form claims if at the top of his game.
(7) Clove Hitch
3Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingWell-bred 3yo who built upon previous promise when easily winning Newbury novice (1m, good to firm) in June on her fourth run; soft ground may not have suited in Sandown Listed race subsequently (has shown promise on good to soft) but others have more substance to their form; something to find.
(4) Regal Reality
9Ryan MooreSir Michael Stoute9yo who hasn't been at his very best this year and can be slowly away; however, this five-time Group 3 winner has still shown considerable spark in 2024, including here last time, and he may well be in the mix.
1st (2) Holloway Boy
4William BuickK R BurkeHaving previously done most of his racing in Group/Listed contests, he's tackled hot 1m handicaps and run highly creditably in defeat (on various ground); has been competitive in Group 3 races in the past and he could have a part to play now back in his grade.
2nd (3) Prague
4Daniel TudhopeDylan CunhaGalileo 4yo who didn't make the track for Aidan O'Brien; easy win at 40-1 on belated debut at Sandown (1m2f, good to soft) in June; fair efforts in tough races the next twice (1m2f/1m1f) and, while improvement is needed today, he's shaped as though this drop to 1m is well worth a go; tongue-tie added.

The lightly raced 4yo Cicero's Gift is very much of interest judged on his handicap win off top weight at Sandown in July, but he's since flopped on good to firm going at Goodwood and the warm weather forecast suggest today's ground will be drying out. Preference is for another lightly raced 4yo in PRAGUE, who has shaped as though he will be suited by this drop to 1m. The admirably consistent Holloway Boy is second choice, although Witch Hunter and Regal Reality are other possible dangers.[Ben Hutton]

(11) Filibustering
3Amie WaughTim EasterbyRunning with consistent credit in handicaps, the exception when 20-1 in a Class 2 contest over C&D; showed he stays 2m when rallying on last two starts (here and behind Road To Wembley at Newcastle); a more prominent ride will probably be needed (5lb claimer is also enlisted) but others are still likely to have too much toe for him.
(10) Flickering Halo
3Joe FanningTim EasterbySole win (12 races) was 1m2f in May but he ran well over 1m4f and 1m6f in July; perhaps stretched by 2m last time; dropped 2lb since but looks vulnerable to an improver unless the first-time headgear sparks something.
(1) Spaceport
3Daniel TudhopeWilliam Muir & Chris GrassickSecond win this season came when upped to 1m6f at Sandown in July, drawing clear again in the final 1f; went up a tough-looking 7lb when those front-running tactics did not work out in the Melrose at York two weeks ago; dropped 1lb since but still needs to resume his improvement.
(3) Walter Hartright
3Ryan MooreEd DunlopRaces prominently and can make the running; much improved since blinkered, completing a four-timer in June/July; advanced his form again when second in both starts since; all of that improvement was over about 1m4f but he shapes as if worth a go at 1m6f; considered.
(8) Road To Wembley
3Finley MarshRichard HughesCompetitive in all his six handicaps, with his three wins including a Racing League event at Newcastle (2m) 16 days ago; his only turf race was at Newbury (2m, good to firm) on penultimate start, when he finished second; continues up the weights and in class today.
(9) Across Earth
3Hollie DoyleMarco BottiThreatened a few times before getting off the mark at the eighth attempt, in a six-runner handicap at Yarmouth (1m6f, good to firm) at the end of July; led after 5f that day and saw off a challenger with authority but he's raised 6lb and in class, so needs another step forward.
3rd (4) Hutchence
3Rossa RyanRalph BeckettDisappointing favourite and co-favourite in his first two handicaps but has turned a major corner with blinkers fitted for his two starts since, winning at Salisbury and Newbury (both 1m4f on good to firm); first off the bridle turning for home last time, before leading on the post, which sees a switch of headgear today (off 6lb higher mark) but also a step up in trip which has to make appeal; leading player.
4th (2) Too Bossy For Us
3Jim CrowleyKevin Philippart De FoyFound improvement in handicaps when upped in trip this May-July, latterly when second of 13 in a quite valuable race over C&D; fair eighth of 16 in the Melrose at York last time, which sees headgear go on today.
2nd (7) Contacto
3Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingWon handicap debut at Doncaster (1m4f, soft), second at Chester (1m4f, good) next time and back in the winner's enclosure at Hamilton (1m4f, soft) on latest start; those were all in the spring (he's been absent 101 days) but he looked the type to make further progress, including at this longer trip.
1st (6) Master Builder
3William BuickDavid MenuisierFirst three starts, including a soft-ground win, made him look a promising sort moving into handicaps and he duly finished third of 16 in the Melrose at York (1m6f, good to firm) two weeks ago, staying on from mid-division; up 3lb but open to further progress and he's on the shortlist.

In a fascinating field, MASTER BUILDER, Hutchence, Contacto and Walter Hartright are all strong candidates, preferred in that order. The selection produced a cracking performance to take third in the Melrose at York, a stronger contest two weeks ago, on his handicap debut and he can build on that because it was only his fourth race. Hutchence looked to be crying out for further at Newbury when he completed his double at 1m4f, while the other two also step up in trip, with Contacto having been absent since May while Walter Hartright was chalking up his four wins and two good seconds.[Richard Austen]

(13) Law Of The Sea
6Jimmy QuinnIan WilliamsHad a mostly poor second half to last season and he's gone a similar way this term since his reappearance third at Chester (6lb lower today); all races for this stable (last two seasons) were 2m+ until he tried 1m4f at York latest, finishing behind; effective here, if it's one of his good days.
(12) No Say Ever
8Franny NortonMiss Amanda MooneyConsistent in Ireland in 2020 and 2021, not in 2022 but the best of his efforts that year make this look a good mark; won a maiden over 1m6f but peak efforts have been over a little shorter; the big issue, though, is over how ready he will be after 645 days off the track.
(15) Lincoln Rockstar
4Rhys ElliottIvan FurtadoBagged win number five of the campaign in tidy style at Beverley 13 days ago; all those were over about 1m4f (on varied ground) but she went close in this season's only attempt at 1m6f (five starts back); greatly improved but needs further marked progress from 5lb out of the handicap (10lb higher than last time) in this much higher grade and 7lb claimer is enlisted.
(2) Rajinsky
8Brandon WilkieHugo PalmerRunner-up in two of his four races at Haydock; had a light and extremely mixed 2023, including a Listed win (1m6f, soft), career-best form in the 2m2f Chester Cup (soft) and two heavy defeats in July; unraced since but has a good record returning from a layoff.
(8) Caliyza
4Shane FoleyJohn C McConnellWon narrowly in France at Nancy (1m4f) and Compiegne (1m6f) last year before going close over 1m7f on heavy in hat-trick bid; put firmly in her place in Group 3 on final start; left the Aga Khan for 100,000euros last December; seems to need improvement on this first run since but could have potential.
(7) Euchen Glen
11Daniel MuscuttJim GoldieVeteran who's had a superlative career; versatile regarding distance and tactics; not quite so good this season but Ayr in June still saw him break a losing run and he was a close fourth at Glorious Goodwood; respectable fifth at York 15 days ago; capable of a prominent finish.
(6) The Goat
4Oisin MurphyAndrew BaldingHas an inconsistent profile but with easily his two best turf efforts having been delivered in the mud, including when third at Hamilton (1m4f) 15 days ago; stayed on late that day but underperformed in all four appearances at about 1m6f; connections reach for headgear.
(5) If Not Now
4Rossa RyanRalph BeckettLightly raced 4yo; tailed off on final start last term (his only run on soft) but third of six at Lingfield (11.6f, good) on reappearance this May was career-best form; 3lb lower today, following a poor show at Epsom (good to soft) on Derby Day; mixed messages there and not certain to get 1m6f.
(1) Grand Alliance
5William BuickCharlie FellowesLast nine races were Group events; career best winning a Group 3 at Newbury (1m4f, soft) on 2023 reappearance and second in Group 2 at Deauville (upped to 1m7f, very soft) last August was a major revival; absent since and needs to return at his peak but he's not fully exposed as a stayer.
4th (10) Knightswood
5Joe FanningCharlie JohnstonWon twice at Ripon last June but this season has largely been a hard-luck story, as he's finished on the premises in five of eight starts and caught the eye in three of those given serious trouble in running; that includes over 1m4f here in June and 1m6f at Goodwood on penultimate start, but 2m may have stretched him at York on latest; each-way player back at 1m6f.
(9) Oneforthegutter
5Ryan MooreIan WilliamsWon his only race here (a maiden in 2021); last four starts have been over 1m6f, running well to be placed in three; latest was the Ebor at York two weeks ago in which he made a big move from mid-division to challenge 2f out, finishing third of 20 (just in front of Epic Poet); up just 1lb and has to be in serious calculations.
1st (4) Epic Poet
5Daniel TudhopeDavid O'MearaHeld up towards rear for new yard this term; acts on good to soft and good to firm; kept on strongly for second of 19 at Royal Ascot (1m4f); met traffic problems in top 1m2f handicap at York next time but saw plenty of daylight out wide in the 1m6f Ebor there two weeks ago, running well again as he boxed on into fourth of 20 just behind Oneforthegutter; each-way contender.
(3) Divine Comedy
6Kaiya FraserHarry EustaceRidden since May 2023 by Kaiya Fraser; has flourished in staying handicaps, this season winning easily over 2m at Haydock (soft) and a superb second from off the pace over 2m4f at Royal Ascot (good to firm); good fifth of 17 at York (2m) 17 days ago but that suggests she needs to resume improvement and this step back in trip asks a question if it's not soft ground.
2nd (14) Waxing Gibbous
4Hollie DoyleDavid Menuisier4yo whose three handicaps brought a Newbury win (1m4f, good) in between two seconds; the latest was a close call at Kempton (1m3f, AW) in June; unraced on firmer than good (withdrawn once in July due to that ground); progressive and needs a second look on this step up in trip.
3rd (11) Dancing In Paris
4David EganIan WilliamsWon last April on his only start at this track; has had a very solid and successful campaign this season since upped to 1m4f/1m6f, including wins at York, Ascot and last week on AW at Southwell; 2lb higher than latest turf run but needs plenty of respect.

While there are plausible options from top to bottom on this card, preference is for ONEFORTHEGUTTER (nap) following his bold show in the Ebor, which was even more competitive. Epic Poet finished on his heels in that York race two weeks ago, coming from a good deal further back, which he will probably attempt again but he is second on the list. Ian Williams has a strong hand with Dancing In Paris joining the selection, while Knightswood caught all the eyes with the trouble in running he encountered at Glorious Goodwood but his supporters may have to say a few prayers again today given that he is in stall 1. Waxing Gibbous may bring the most potential and Grand Alliance, who won first time out last term, is dropped from Group races.[Richard Austen]

(10) Night On Earth
6Kaiya FraserIan WilliamsFront-runner who has won four times this year, the latest when returning to form to beat four rivals at Catterick ten days ago; however, a 4lb rise and the step back up in grade may find him out this afternoon.
(3) Designer
5David EganJohn ButlerOn a handy mark on last season's form and she's one to watch in the betting on her second start of the year; however, she was well beaten at York last month and needs to have come on a bundle for that outing.
(7) Hyperfocus
10Joe FanningTim Easterby10yo who won two in a row at Chester (heavy/good to soft) this summer; however, he's struggled when away from Chester this year and was well beaten at Wolverhampton (AW) last time; all turf wins have come on slow ground.
4th (11) Looking For Lynda
4Harrison ShawK R BurkeProminent-racer who is 0-10 this year but has often run well in defeat (on various ground), most recently a close third of 22 at York's Ebor meeting; every chance he'll produce another bold show.
(6) Changeofmind
4Cieren FallonDeclan CarrollLightly raced 4yo whose career has had some interruptions since he won his first two starts (good/good to soft); has improved with each of his three runs this season and went close at Hamilton (5f, heavy) a fortnight ago; not discounted but his claims may be dented if the ground dries out.
(2) Toca Madera
3Sean LeveyBrian MeehanClose third to Shagraan at Glorious Goodwood (5f, good to firm) before winning at Windsor (6f, good to firm); not at the same level at Southwell (5f) last time but that was his AW debut and this 3yo could have more to offer now back on turf; unproven on slow ground.
(9) Rocking Ends
4Ray DawsonTom CloverMade it 2-4 for current stable when winning at Newmarket (5f, good) in July; solid third at Goodwood (5f, good) 11 days later; unproven on slow ground but could have more left in the tank and he's one to consider.
2nd (4) Jer Batt
4Rossa RyanDavid & Nicola BarronDisappointing at Southwell (5f, AW) nine days ago and it's hard to be confident on the back of that, but he looked progressive previously and won over this C&D (good) two starts ago; shouldn't be written off.
(8) Jumbeau
4Hollie DoyleTom CloverIn good form this year since these cheekpieces went on, winning at Windsor (5f, good) in May and third of 14 at York last month (5f, good to firm; albeit no match for winner); unproven on slow ground; could be thereabouts.
3rd (5) American Affair
4Amie WaughJim GoldieTwo wins from five races this year, latest at Thirsk (5f, good to soft) in June; close second to Jer Batt over C&D (good) next time, runner-up at Pontefract (5f, good to firm) since and there's every chance he'll continue to progress, especially if settling better than last time; key player.
1st (1) Shagraan
3Oisin MurphyMichael ApplebyRunning well this year prior to winning big-field 3yo handicap at Glorious Goodwood (5f, good to firm) and close fifth of 22 at York (5.4f, good to firm) since; today's race is less competitive and he could play a leading role if conditions suit (unproven on slow ground); trainer won this last year.

The Jim Goldie-trained AMERICAN AFFAIR has enjoyed a progressive campaign and is taken to post his third win of the season. Shagraan is another sprinter who is on the up and he is the chief threat ahead of Rocking Ends, who has done very well since joining Tom Clover. Looking For Lynda can also be involved.[Ben Hutton]

6Hollie DoyleCharlie FellowesPosted Listed (6f) and Group 3 (5f) wins in spring 2023 and went close in Group 3 Palace House at Newmarket this May, but hasn't hit the same form heights subsequently and she would be a shock winner today.
(4) Moss Tucker
6W J LeeK J CondonProminent-racer who won 6f Group 3 at the Curragh (good) last August and followed up in the Group 1 Flying Five there (5f, good to yielding); reappeared with Listed win at Naas (5f, yielding); lesser run at the Curragh in May but has had a break since and this Irish challenger is not ruled out.
(16) Flora Of Bermuda
3Oisin MurphyAndrew Balding3yo who was suited by the step back up to 6f when winning Group 3 Summer Stakes against her own sex at York (good to soft) in July; another good run when fourth in Group 1 Prix Maurice de Gheest (6.5f, good to soft); however, it's likely her limitations will be exposed today.
(2) Art Power
7Joe FanningTim EasterbyFront-runner who won the Group 1 Champions Sprint at Ascot (6f, soft) last October and was a good fourth in the July Cup at Newmarket (6f, good) this term; he'll appreciate the drop back in trip after tackling 7f the last twice and holds each-way possibilities; slow ground would aid his cause.
1st (3) Montassib
6Cieren FallonWilliam HaggasHighly progressive last year and reappeared with Listed win at Doncaster (6f, soft) in March; below best when sixth in the Group 2 Duke of York (6f, good) in May and bounced back with Group 3 Chipchase win at Newcastle (6f, AW) in June; probably needs slow ground to be in with a chance.
(1) Annaf
5Rossa RyanMichael ApplebySuffered troubled passage when seventh in this last year (good) and campaign concluded with a win in the Group 3 Bengough Stakes at Ascot (6f, good); in fine form on his two runs this February and, while he's been absent since, he has a good record when fresh; each-way contender.
(6) Spycatcher
6Ryan MooreK R BurkePlaced in two Group 1 races (very soft/soft) last season and back to best with Group 3 win at Deauville (6f, very soft) recently; capable of running well on good going but would be of greater interest on slow ground.
2nd (12) Kind Of Blue
3Daniel MuscuttJames FanshaweWon in the spring on first two starts and has run creditably in 6f Group races on his next three outings; all turf starts on fast ground; improvement needed today but he's just the type his in-form trainer excels with and his dam is a half-sister to the stable's The Tin Man who won this in 2018.
(5) Shouldvebeenaring
4Sean LeveyRichard HannonHis form can be up and down but he was a neck second in this last year (good) and won a Group 3 at Deauville (6f, good to soft) this July; fair third in Group 2 at York last time when perhaps stretched by 7f and could be bang there now back down in distance.
(9) Givemethebeatboys
3Shane FoleyMrs John HarringtonBounced back from his flop in the Commonwealth Cup to rally to win the Group 3 Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh four weeks ago (6f, good to firm; Kind Of Blue a narrow second); won his maiden on soft going; this 3yo was better than ever last time but needs another step forward today.
3rd (14) Unequal Love
4Daniel TudhopeWilliam HaggasHighly progressive 4yo who won the Wokingham Handicap at Royal Ascot (6f, good to firm) then suffered early interference when close third in Group 3 Summer Stakes against her own sex at York (6f, good to soft) in July; could still have more to offer but such improvement is necessary.
(11) Jasour
3Jim CrowleyClive Cox2yo fast-ground Group 2 winner who reappeared with win in Group 3 Commonwealth Cup Trial at Ascot (6f, good to soft) in May; respectable efforts in Group 1 races the next twice and there's a suspicion this 3yo could be capable of a bigger performance when settling better; not ruled out.
(7) Bucanero Fuerte
3David EganAdrian MurrayBolted up in Group 1 Phoenix Stakes at the Curragh (6f, good) last August and won Group 3 at Naas (6f, good) this May on sole 3yo start; returns from a 111-day break and this is a tough test of his credentials but this unexposed colt has won four of his six starts and has some star potential.
(8) Elite Status
3Clifford LeeK R BurkeGlimpses of significant promise in last year's 2yo campaign (including soft-ground Group 3 win) and he's 2-2 this season following Listed and Group 3 wins at Newbury (6f, good/good to firm); he beat some very talented yardsticks last time and is one to be interested in now back into a Group 1.
(13) Swingalong
4William BuickK R BurkeRaced alone on the near side when fine fourth in this last year (good) and this front-runner has gone close in 6f Group 1s the last twice, namely the Jubilee (good to firm) and the July Cup (good); seems versatile ground-wise; another bold bid can be expected; firmly in calculations.
(10) Inisherin
3Tom EavesKevin RyanRelished the drop to sprinting to win the Group 2 Sandy Lane over C&D (soft) in May, and also had something to spare in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot (6f, good to firm); underwhelming fifth in the July Cup but a break may have helped and he has leading claims on his earlier form.

The 3yo INISHERIN failed to fire when fifth in the July Cup but he had previously looked a sprinting superstar when dominant in the Group 1 Commonwealth Cup at Royal Ascot, and can return to winning ways following a break. The front-running filly Swingalong has gone close in Group 1s the last twice and is feared most ahead of the 3yo Elite Status, who is 2-2 this year. Last year's runner-up Shouldvebeenaring, Bucanero Fuerte and Jasour are other interesting contenders.[Ben Hutton]

2Hollie DoyleArchie WatsonEyecatching debut here over 7f (good to firm) and then justified a shade of odds-on with no bother at Ffos Las (7.5f, heavy); faces a different calibre of opposition here but it's been an encouraging start.

2Daniel TudhopeCharlie Fellowes250,000gns son of Frankel; his two races have been on fast ground at Salisbury, beating his three rivals over 7f and then giving a talented Balding horse plenty to think about in a three-runner 1m Listed race; Dewhurst entrant and promising.
(1) Age Of Gold
2William BuickCharlie ApplebyYarmouth winner who was gelded after disappointing in the Chesham at Royal Ascot; next seen when going down narrowly in a big-field nursery at York (7f, good to firm; very competitive); saw that race out well and stepping up to 1m can only benefit him.

All eight are past winners and none of them are discounted with comfort. AGE OF GOLD was closing fast on the winner when carrying a big weight at York in what's always a strong nursery and he looks nailed on to benefit from this extra furlong. Luther, who was able to threaten at this level on just his second run, appeals as the main threat ahead of The Lost King.[Alistair Jones]

4Brandon WilkieWilliam KnightHad been running well on turf and the AW until offering little at Wolverhampton a month ago; capable of going well if back in good order, with Brandon Wilkie's claim taking something off a tough mark.
(3) Pearl Eye
4David EganDarryll HollandOn a useful mark despite being 5lb higher than for last year's win in this race, and it was an encouraging run at Beverley last time after being gelded, as good to firm would have been too lively for him; cheekpieces back on for blinkers is a positive; shortlisted.
(11) Leadenhall
4Jim CrowleyTim EasterbyIn and out since a third on debut for this yard in May and, now 1-15, he's looking hard to win with.
3rd (13) Mr Swivell
3Ray DawsonJames FergusonSecond run back from a lengthy break when leading close home at Newmarket (1m, good) three weeks ago and that was only his sixth start; up in grade off 3lb higher but well worth considering.
2nd (7) Arkhalia Flynn
3George BassJack ChannonHas gone 1311 since sent into handicaps and came from well off the pace two weeks ago to score at Windsor (1m, soft); shooting up the weights with a further 5lb rise to deal with, but there are no other negatives to worry about.
1st (8) Nap Hand
4Rossa RyanAlan KingDebut winner who is 0-8 in handicaps but has threatened and looked unlucky last time at Kempton (1m); danger to all off the same mark.
(12) Rogue Encore
3Oisin MurphyPeter Chapple-HyamPlenty of initial promise in these colours for Tom Clover, including a third behind the high-class Inisherin; had a wind op and was never far away when a close third on handicap debut at Windsor (1m, good) and then got no luck at Newbury having been gelded; could be interesting.

Last year's winner Pearl Eye (second choice) is worth considering as his first run after being gelded was on ground too fast for him. Arkhalia Flynn continues to defy the handicapper and Nap Hand is shortlisted, but if there's a sharp improver lurking then it's the recently gelded ROGUE ENCORE who never got the chance to stretch his legs at Newbury last time.[Alistair Jones]

(7) Sound Pressure
4Brandon WilkieSam EnglandTwo 2yo novice wins for James Horton in summer 2022; however, he returned from a long absence at Redcar a fortnight ago and was well beaten at 40-1 on that stable debut; probably best watched.
(10) Spioradalta
4Cieren FallonMark WalfordWeakened quickly and tailed off at Chester in July and has something to prove after that, but he's had a break since and showed some fair form earlier in the campaign; on a dangerous mark and not discounted.
(3) Urban Sprawl
4Joe FanningCharlie JohnstonWell handicapped on last year's 3yo form and could bounce back to form at some stage; however, he has something to prove having finished down the field on all three outings this season.
(1) Pisanello
7Daniel TudhopeDavid O'MearaExploited a reduced mark at York (1m1f, good to soft) in June and is just 2lb higher today; however, he's gone off the boil the last twice and needs to get back on track.
4th (5) Kelpie Grey
4Amie WaughJim GoldieFront-runner who won three in a row in the spring (1m/7f, good to soft/good) and has continued in pretty good heart, finishing a close fourth at Carlisle (7f, good) last month following a break; could make a bold bid.
(9) Star Zinc
5Hollie DoyleRebecca MenziesWon at Newcastle (7f, AW) in February and close third there (7f) in April when last seen; also effective at 1m; however, there's a question mark about him on turf nowadays and he lacks a recent outing.
3rd (13) Mysteryofthesands
3David EganTim Easterby3yo who gained a deserved win at Hamilton in June but has finished sixth on his three starts since and needs to raise his game today.
(11) Utilis
4Dale SwiftBrian EllisonInconsistent and winless across his first 17 starts before scoring in first-time tongue-tie/blinkers at Thirsk (1m, good) three weeks ago; needs to back up that latest performance but he won with something to spare and a 5lb rise may not stop him if the headgear maintains its positive effect.
1st (4) Obelix
4Clifford LeeJulie Camacho0-12 since winning in 2022 on his third start and he was soundly beaten at Windsor three weeks ago; however, continues to edge down the weights and a case can be made on this season's best efforts.
2nd (12) Empire Of Light
3Harrison ShawGrant Tuer3yo who won here (1m2f) in June on second stable start and has been placed on his four outings since, most recently runner-up over 1m at Redcar where he was denied a clear run; firmly in calculations for in-form yard.
(2) Al Rufaa
7Tom EavesDaniel & Claire KublerCreditable fourth in the Carlisle Bell in June and has gone very close on AW the last twice; he's more reliable on AW than turf nowadays but is still entitled to respect in view of his strong recent form.
(8) Good Morning Alex
3Rossa RyanDavid & Nicola Barron3yo who made it 6-9 in handicaps when completing a front-running hat-trick (1m-1m1f, soft-good) at Hamilton in June; only sixth off new mark at Hamilton last month following a 68-day break but he shouldn't be written off in view of his previous highly progressive form.
(6) Native King
3Oisin MurphyHugo PalmerCame from the rear to win on his handicap/stable debut at Chester (7.5f, good) in June and has suffered trouble in running both starts since; this 3yo retains potential and could play a leading role if getting the breaks.

The unexposed 3yo NATIVE KING hasn't had the breaks at Chester or Goodwood the last twice and is taken to add to his stable debut win at Chester in June. Empire Of Light is another 3yo who didn't enjoy much luck last time out and he may be the main danger ahead of Utilis, who posted a breakthrough win in new headgear at Thirsk three weeks ago.[Ben Hutton]
