Race 1: 13:57 Bath Betting.Bet Online Betting Apprentice Handicap (0-60) (6) 3yo+ GB 1m 2f 37y
(5) Saratoga Star | | | | | | 3 | Callum Hutchinson | Patrick Chamings | A well-beaten outsider in his first two handicaps (1m2f/1m4f); needs addition of cheekpieces to make a huge difference here. |
(2) Lhebayeb | | | | | | 6 | Jack Doughty | Richard Price | Won three times (twice over 11.6f here) for Victor Dartnall last year but started off for Richard Price with two poor runs (both 1m4f) this summer and needs to turn things around quickly. |
(8) Emanate | | | | | | 6 | Elisha Whittington | Neil Mulholland | In good form over hurdles this summer but his only placing from 14 Flat starts was a remote third in 2021, and he makes only limited appeal on his return to this code. |
(9) Quick Away | | | | | | 3 | Alec Voikhansky | Kevin Frost | Went close at Southwell (1m, AW) in March, her second handicap, but has not shown a great deal since; difficult to enthuse over. |
1st (10) Run Of Luck | | | | | | 3 | Liam Wright | Ed de Giles | Showed no significant promise at triple-digit odds in three novice/maiden races this summer (1m-9.4f) but fared better when clear second of five on handicap debut at Ffos Las (1m2f, heavy) three weeks ago, and might have more to offer if suited by today's faster ground. |
(7) My Brother Mike | | | | | | 10 | Connor Planas | David Loughnane | Multiple winner when owner-trained (twice here; 1m2f/11.6f); getting long in the tooth now and made low-key debut for David Loughnane on Tapeta last month but can't be ruled out off his lower turf mark. |
(3) Flame Of Kodiac | | | | | | 4 | Sean D Bowen | John & Rhys Flint | Now back on the same mark as when causing a 66-1 shock on seasonal debut at Chepstow (1m, soft) in May but has largely been disappointing since; others have more pressing claims. |
(11) Bramble Jelly | | | | | | 3 | Laura Coughlan | Dominic Ffrench Davis | Placed on four of her nine starts this season (once over C&D on good ground) but didn't fire on her latest outing and her overall strike-rate is now 0-15; others appeal more. |
4th (6) Galactic Glow | | | | | | 7 | Taylor Fisher | Joe Tickle | Won three times over C&D on fast ground last season and was back in good form when second at Salisbury (1m2f, good to firm) last month; didn't really enjoy the run of the race when very respectable fifth of 12 here (11.6f, good) 11 days ago and remains on a good mark; respected. |
3rd (4) Blue Hero | | | | | | 6 | Tyler Heard | Adrian Wintle | Only eighth when favourite over 1m5f here last month and not one to rely upon heavily but was a very convincing winner off 2lb lower here (11.6f, firm) in July, and today's trip-and-ground combination will also suit. |
2nd (1) Renesmee | | | | | | 4 | Christian Howarth | Alice Haynes | Has modest 1-20 strike-rate but was denied a clear run before keeping on well from the rear to take second (albeit no threat to clear winner) on recent stable debut at Windsor (1m2f, good to firm); 2lb lower here and still unexposed over this trip; must be considered. |
Topweight RENESMEE has a modest strike-rate but she did quite well to finish second on her recent stable debut at Windsor, has become very well handicapped and could still have more to offer over 1m2f. She gets the nod ahead of three-time C&D winner Galactic Glow, who is back in good form. Blue Hero was below form here on his latest outing but will be a danger if back on song.[Chris Wilson]
Race 2: 14:32 Bath Betting.Bet Live Racing Nursery Handicap (0-55) (6) 2yo GB 1m
(7) Marrakesh Dawn | | | | | | 2 | Tyler Heard | Mark Usher | Unable to get competitive after slow starts in both nurseries (5f/7f); upped in trip with hood added here; huge leap of faith required to support her. |
3rd (11) Good Call | | | | | | 2 | Georgia Dobie | J S Moore | Not disgraced when fourth of 14 on nursery debut at Kempton (1m, AW) last month but was over 11l behind Bracklesham Bay when tried in cheekpieces (now removed) at Chepstow 12 days ago. |
(12) Ardads Dream | | | | | | 2 | Laura Coughlan | Mark Usher | Made low-key nursery debut when midfield at Chelmsford (7f, AW; first-time cheekpieces) a fortnight ago; tries new trip and first-time visor here; needs to take a good step forward. |
(3) West Kirby | | | | | | 2 | Rob Hornby | Jonathan Portman | Not beaten far when sixth of nine in Lingfield maiden (7f, good to firm) in July but didn't show much on Polytrack there last month; upped in trip and visored for nursery debut; stable has more obvious chance with Bownder. |
4th (9) Mount Of Gold | | | | | | 2 | Gina Mangan | Rachel Cook & John Bridger | Well beaten on last month's nursery debut but, with cheekpieces added, belied triple-digit odds when placed behind Bownder at Salisbury (1m, good to firm) last month; contender if able to build on that performance. |
(5) Biddable | | | | | | 2 | William Cox | Tom Dascombe | Cut little ice in three novice/maiden sprints in the spring; upped in trip and fitted with cheekpieces for this nursery debut; worth a glance in the betting but others look much more solid. |
(4) Dynamite Diva | | | | | | 2 | Darragh Keenan | Rod Millman | Just a respectable fifth on 12 on last month's nursery debut at Windsor (6f, good to firm) but her dam was a very useful miler and today's step up in trip may unlock improvement. |
(6) Majestic Heights | | | | | | 2 | Alec Voikhansky | Richard Hannon | Safely held in two 7f nurseries last month; made some fairly encouraging late headway on both occasions and may benefit from today's step up in trip but significant improvement is needed. |
(8) Bright Era | | | | | | 2 | Liam Keniry | J S Moore | Placed for first time in eight-race career when keeping-on third at Chepstow (7f, good to firm) a fortnight ago; 2lb lower here and well worth another crack at 1m; considered each-way. |
2nd (2) Bownder | | | | | | 2 | George Rooke | Jonathan Portman | Came from behind to win at Salisbury (1m, good to firm) last month, his second nursery, and posted another good performance when second to Bracklesham Bay at Chepstow (1m, good) a few days later; up another 3lb since last time but still commands respect. |
(10) Keep Singing | | | | | | 2 | Jack Doughty | J S Moore | Kept on for third behind Bracklesham Bay and Bownder at Chepstow (1m, good) 12 days ago and was one of two to pull a long way clear of the others when dead-heating at Wolverhampton on Monday (9.4f, AW; demoted to second); effectively 2lb lower today; good chance. |
1st (1) Bracklesham Bay | | | | | | 2 | Edward Greatrex | Jamie Osborne | Evidently suited by step up in trip when keeping on well to beat Bownder on recent nursery debut at Chepstow (1m, good); recorded a good Topspeed figure for the grade there and can progress again. |
Bracklesham Bay and Bownder (preferred in that order) fought out the finish to a 1m Chepstow nursery 12 days ago and both feature prominently in calculations here but the third from that contest, KEEP SINGING, ran a big race on Tapeta on Monday and is taken to strike here before the handicapper has a chance to react to that performance.[Chris Wilson]
Race 3: 15:07 Bath Blackmore Building Contractors Restricted Maiden Stakes (For horses In Bands B/C/D) (GBB Race) GB 5f 10y
5th (3) Tilsworth Silver | | | | | | 3 | James Sullivan | J R Jenkins | Struggled to get competitive when a big-priced outsider for first three races (6f-7f); drops in trip today. |
4th (5) Zambezi Diamond | | | | | | 3 | Nicola Currie | Henry Candy | Displayed some ability before weakening into eight in two novice races this summer (1m/7f) but it's questionable whether today's drop to 5f will prompt the necessary improvement. |
3rd (2) Trafalger | | | | | | 3 | William Cox | Brian Toomey | Out of a fairly useful sprinter; outran 66-1 odds and shaped with considerable promise before fading into third behind the market principals at Chepstow (6f, good) 12 days ago; drops in trip here; likely contender. |
2nd (1) All Ways Glamorous | | | | | | 3 | George Rooke | Christopher Mason | Runner-up in two small-field 5f races last month, latterly when close second of three at Chepstow (good to soft); that form may not be reliable but, nevertheless, he ought to make his presence felt here. |
1st (4) Annie Edson Taylor | | | | | | 3 | Rob Hornby | Kevin Thomas Coleman | Irish-trained filly who has been placed on all four starts (5.5f-6f); no match for a newcomer when warm favourite at Ffos Las (6f, heavy) last month but ought to be better suited by the less testing ground here and has strong claims. |
Trafalger is not opposed lightly, having made a promising debut over 6f at Chepstow recently, but ANNIE EDSON TAYLOR can be excused last month's defeat on heavy ground and appears to have been found a good opportunity.[Chris Wilson]
Race 4: 15:40 Bath Betting.Bet Win £50 Bath Summer Stayers' Series Final Handicap (Series Final) GB 1m 6f
13th (14) Uther Pendragon | | | | | | 9 | Elisha Whittington | J S Moore | Course regular; great servant to connections over the years and proved he retains some ability when second off basement mark at Ffos Las (2m, heavy) last month but is 5lb wrong today and faces a tough task. |
7th (13) Asense | | | | | | 5 | Anna Gibson | Gary & Josh Moore | Dual course winner at around this time last year (11.6f/1m5f) but not in same form this season; just a respectable third at Brighton (1m2f, good to firm) this month and effectively 3lb higher from out of the weights here. |
11th (3) Masterdream | | | | | | 7 | Callum Hutchinson | Neil Mulholland | Four-time winner over hurdles but just 1-15 on the Flat; very nearly caused 40-1 surprise over C&D (good) in July and is only 1lb higher today but his stablemate Al Sayah has a much more compelling profile. |
5th (11) Endofastorm | | | | | | 5 | Tyler Heard | Joe Ponting | Bounced back to form and doubled his tally when causing 40- shock here (11.6f, good) 11 days ago; not sure to be in the same mood today, though, and is probably vulnerable in this much stronger race anyway; 1lb wrong. |
6th (12) Ladypacksapunch | | | | | | 5 | James Sullivan | Grace Harris | Aided by a visor this summer and got off the mark with 11.6f course win off basement mark last month, her 29th career start; stays 1m6f but is not an obvious candidate for a race this competitive; 2lb wrong. |
(5) Myriad | | | | | | 5 | George Rooke | Richard Hughes | Missed 2023 but has returned in good form this year, making the frame on all four appearances; second to Taritino over C&D (good to firm) when that rival was bang in form in June, and has a fighting chance off same mark today. |
1st (4) Dynamiste | | | | | | 4 | Pat Cosgrave | Kevin Philippart De Foy | Consistent since switched to handicaps in February and kept on well to open account here (1m5f, good to firm) last month, her second start in cheekpieces; only 3lb higher today and probably won't be far away. |
10th (7) Spitfire Bridge | | | | | | 4 | Ray Dawson | Sheena West | 0-10 under all codes but kept on for close second behind Dynamiste on handicap debut here (1m5f, good to firm) last month and also ran well over hurdles a fortnight ago; considered each-way. |
4th (8) Cherry Cola | | | | | | 8 | Rose Dawes | Sheena West | Needs to rebound from two below-par runs last month but was placed over C&D in July and is now 8lb lower than when third under regular rider Rose Dawes in this race last year; a possible if boosted by new cheekpieces. |
2nd (9) Beggarman | | | | | | 7 | Rob Hornby | Hughie Morrison | Made winning seasonal debut at Chelmsford (13.3f, AW) in April and has remained in good form on turf since but is probably vulnerable to younger legs today. |
9th (6) Boy George | | | | | | 7 | Liam Keniry | Dominic Ffrench Davis | In career-best form this summer, winning from the front here (11.6f, good) and at Windsor (11.4f, good to firm); may find younger rivals better handicapped today but can give another good account on first attempt at 1m6f. |
12th (1) Taritino | | | | | | 4 | Taylor Fisher | Joe Tickle | Surged back to form and completed a hat-trick in the spring (middle leg was over C&D) but seems to have gone off the boil again lately, and needs a career-best performance to overcome top weight today. |
3rd (10) Grey Owl | | | | | | 4 | Nicola Currie | Emma Lavelle | In the frame six consecutive times since switched to handicaps and fitted with a tongue-tie, most recently when collaring Prescott-trained odds-on shot to open account at Salisbury (1m6f, good to firm) last month; 4lb higher in deeper race here but further progress is possible. |
8th (2) Al Sayah | | | | | | 4 | Sean D Bowen | Neil Mulholland | Struck form with two hurdle wins in May and continued the excellent work when back on the Flat here (2m1f, good to soft) in June, winning easily by over 8l; not seen again since and 9lb higher now it's very hard to tell when her progress will level off. |
Dual hurdle winner AL SAYAH (nap) returned to the Flat with a wide-margin win over 2m1f here three months ago and has presumably been tucked away for a tilt at this quite valuable prize since. She could still have significant improvement to come and is selected ahead of Grey Owl, who has some scope to progress from his recent Salisbury win. Stablemates Spitfire Bridge and Cherry Cola also make the shortlist, along with Dynamiste.[Chris Wilson]
Race 5: 16:20 Bath Betting.Bet Horse Racing Odds Bath Summer Sprint Series Final Handicap GB 5f 160y
(12) Brian The Snail | | | | | | 10 | Ryan Kavanagh | Patrick Morris | Made all in an uncompetitive Thirsk handicap in July (5f, good to firm); respectable efforts the last twice but not the obvious solution to this puzzle. |
(15) Second Collection | | | | | | 8 | Molly Gunn | Tony Carroll | Got the better of My Delilah over 5f here (firm) in June; not so good in three subsequent runs though and others are more persuasive. |
(16) Foreseeable Future | | | | | | 9 | James Sullivan | Ruth Carr | Went close over C&D in a 0-55 handicap in July; placed on his next two starts but underperformed last time and this is a tough task from out of the weights. |
5th (2) Connie's Rose | | | | | | 5 | Callum Hutchinson | Grace Harris | Three wins this year and fully effective at this track; 2lb rise for the latest success is manageable and she's unexposed in a tongue-tie; should go well. |
2nd (9) Delagate This Lord | | | | | | 10 | Ray Dawson | Roger Fell & Sean Murray | Saves his best for this track and he didn't run badly here 11 days ago; he will need much more to take this though. |
(6) Beyond Equal | | | | | | 9 | Rob Hornby | Stuart Kittow | Getting on for three years since his last win; he's run some good races this summer, including at Bath, but others appeal more for win purposes. |
(11) Under Curfew | | | | | | 8 | Gina Mangan | Tony Carroll | Ended his losing run here in May (5f, good to soft) and he added a Salisbury win in July; solid placed efforts twice since but this race might prove too competitive. |
4th (13) My Delilah | | | | | | 4 | Sean D Bowen | Adrian Wintle | Generally in good form this summer, finishing second here and at Chepstow; beaten favourite at the latter track 12 days ago; this is a stronger race than she's accustomed to. |
(5) Crazy Luck | | | | | | 6 | Oliver Searle | Rod Millman | Ended her losing run at Nottingham in May (6f, good); more modest efforts than good have followed but she's 3lb lower than for the win as a result; stable also run Silent Flame. |
1st (14) Vaunted | | | | | | 5 | Tyler Heard | Adrian Wintle | Can get it wrong at the start; was able to overcome a tardy beginning at Chepstow three weeks ago (6f, good to soft) but not sure she'll be able to get away with missing the break in this field. |
(4) Lipsink | | | | | | 7 | Alistair Rawlinson | Michael Appleby | Not the first horse to be reinvigorated by the move to Mick Appleby, winning at Nottingham in June and placed in three of his four runs since; clear of the third when headed late on by Treacherous here four weeks ago; 3lb higher but still well treated and likely to make a bold bid. |
(7) Symbol Of Hope | | | | | | 6 | Taylor Fisher | John & Rhys Flint | Conditions to suit and he ran well for second behind an interesting opponent here (5f, good) 11 days ago; should run his race but not much room for error off this mark. |
(3) Sarah's Verse | | | | | | 7 | Darragh Keenan | Ronald Harris | Loves it around here and she gained her sixth course win when easily seeing off Connie's Rose over C&D in May; series of creditable efforts since and she's a strong contender. |
(8) Silent Flame | | | | | | 6 | Ross Coakley | Rod Millman | Perked up by the addition of blinkers this summer, wins at Newbury and Goodwood sandwiching near misses at Newbury and Leicester; edging back up the weights but she's still 10lb lower than at this point 12 months ago; one to be interested in. |
3rd (10) Glamorous Express | | | | | | 5 | Jack Doughty | Tony Carroll | Course win as a 2yo; not beaten far into third on his last two starts and his rider's claim is useful today; drawn wide but holds each-way claims. |
(1) Treacherous | | | | | | 10 | Pat Cosgrave | Ed de Giles | C&D winner last month (good to firm; beat Lipsink) and he followed that with a close second at Salisbury 16 days ago; drawn wide and could prove vulnerable giving weight away all round. |
A big field but possible not so competitive as the numbers suggest. Sarah's Verse (second choice) and Lipsink feature prominently in calculations but the addition of blinkers has had a positive effect on SILENT FLAME and she still has mileage in her current mark.[Paul Smith]
Race 6: 16:55 Bath Betting.Bet Free Horse Racing Tips Handicap (0-55) (6) 3yo+ GB 5f 10y
(7) Katar | | | | | | 4 | William Cox | Richenda Ford | Beaten a head in C&D classified in June but his last three outings were not of that standard and his strike-rate now stands at 0-35. |
(6) We're Reunited | | | | | | 7 | Rob Hornby | Michael Blake | Bath regular who often makes the running; regular minor honours but there's been no win since June 2022, so one or two others are preferred. |
4th (8) Fishermans Cottage | | | | | | 5 | Charlie Bennett | Malcolm Saunders | Low-level maiden after seven races; had almost a year off before his eighth of nine to Snow Berry here (18-1) 11 days ago, making most, but he needs to show something new if he's to turn the tables. |
(5) Turn And Burn | | | | | | 3 | Sam Hitchcott | Kevin Frost | Ex-Irish; beat very few in three turf races (good or good to yielding) before winning his six-runner AW/handicap debut at Lingfield (5f) ten days ago on second run for this yard; hooded for last two outings, blowing the start on latest but he was anxious to get on with it and made most; up 5lb but probably more to give with practice and if his energies can be harnessed. |
1st (2) Hannah's Return | | | | | | 5 | Taylor Fisher | Gary Brown | Front-runner who's scored three times this year, most recently at Brighton (5f, good) in May on the only time she's worn cheekpieces; her last of 12 at Lingfield last month was over 7f and after 105 days off, but leaves her with a bit to prove even so. |
2nd (4) Wedgewood | | | | | | 4 | Jack Doughty | Tony Carroll | On a long competitive sequence this season, including a classified win over C&D in July and a Windsor second on latest outing; those two peak efforts were on fast ground and she's unraced on softer than good. |
3rd (3) Darkened Edge | | | | | | 4 | Gina Mangan | Christopher Mason | Easily accounted for her only two rivals over C&D (firm) early last month and close second of six at Chepstow (5f, good) 12 days ago backs up the form; in the argument in a competitive race. |
(1) Snow Berry | | | | | | 6 | Alistair Rawlinson | Michael Appleby | In the form of her life with two wins over the Nottingham 5f this summer and another over the extended 5f here 11 days ago; with recent form-figures of 1121, she's on a major roll. |
Most have realistic each-way claims but this might be another race which pans out best for SNOW BERRY, who can be delivered later than some in this line-up. She is tipped to make it four wins from her last five starts. Darkened Edge should be seriously involved but the wild card is Turn And Burn, who is very lightly raced and shows it but his Lingfield AW win ten days ago also demonstrated a dose of raw ability.[Richard Austen]
Race 7: 17:30 Bath Betting.Bet New Betting Sites Handicap (0-70) (5) 3yo+ GB 1m
9th (9) Hadley Park | | | | | | 4 | William Cox | Joe Ponting | Didn't take to hurdling during three-race spell for Harry Derham and has finished last on all three Flat starts for current stable (7f-1m6f); tongue-tie/visor removed today; can't be recommended. |
5th (11) Saffredi | | | | | | 3 | Ray Dawson | Grace Harris | Placed three times for Gavin Cromwell in Ireland this summer, most recently when fourth at Gowran (7f, good) in July; also suited by 1m and, having changed hands for 4,800gns last month, has possibilities on stable debut. |
(8) Bella Veneta | | | | | | 5 | Rob Hornby | Thomas Faulkner | Lightly raced since C&D novice win for Rae Guest in spring 2022 and made the frame at Kempton (1m, AW) on last two of three starts for new stable this season; sure to be suited by the return to this track; shortlisted. |
7th (1) Macs Dilemma | | | | | | 6 | Gina Mangan | John O'Shea | Placed over 7f at Brighton on two of his last three starts and remains on a workable mark but is yet fully to convince stamina-wise over 1m and others may see this race out more strongly. |
1st (7) Racing Demon | | | | | | 4 | George Rooke | Ed de Giles | Still 5lb higher than when winning by a nose over C&D (good) in May but returns here after creditable fourth in quite valuable series final at Chepstow (1m, good to soft) last month and enters calculations. |
10th (2) Beau Gars | | | | | | 4 | Sean D Bowen | Jamie Osborne | Returned from break with front-running win at Ffos Las (7.3f, heavy) last month; seemed to enjoy the run of the race there and encounters quicker conditions here but remains unexposed on turf. |
8th (5) Vellner | | | | | | 5 | Joshua Bryan | Bernard Llewellyn | Has mixed record since joining current stable last autumn but landed a gamble at Ayr (1m, good) in May and was clear second off today's mark at Ffos Las (1m2f, heavy) last month; contender if in the right mood. |
2nd (6) Mercian Warrior | | | | | | 3 | Georgia Dobie | Eve Johnson Houghton | Safely held in two 7f Newbury handicaps this year and now 0-6 but combination of ease in grade and step up in trip may show him in a better light here. |
4th (4) Fihrayn | | | | | | 3 | Alec Voikhansky | Richard Hannon | A maiden after seven starts but got career back on track with good second at Kempton (7f, AW) this month and ought to be suited by today's move back up in trip; one to consider. |
6th (3) Spirit Of The Bay | | | | | | 6 | Taylor Fisher | John & Rhys Flint | No longer the force of old and yet to be placed after five starts for current stable but ran well for a long way over 11.6f here 11 days ago, having raced too freely, and may benefit from this drop back in trip. |
3rd (10) Ciotog | | | | | | 6 | Edward Greatrex | Mark Loughnane | Dual C&D winner last year (including this race on good ground); below form after racing too freely at Chepstow a fortnight ago but went close over C&D two starts ago and is now 1lb lower. |
A few of these warrant consideration but the answer might be FIHRAYN, who recently returned to form with a good 7f AW run and could plausibly still have untapped potential over 1m. C&D winner Bella Veneta also comes here via Kempton and is second choice, ahead of last year's winner Ciotog.[Chris Wilson]
