1st (5) (3/10 +47%) Magic Wave |
3/10(+47%) | (5) Magic Wave 3/10, Progressive in bumpers, off the mark at the third attempt at Ayr on last season's reappearance. Decent start to hurdles career when second to a useful sort at Wetherby a year ago but off since. This looks an excellent opportunity. Bumper winner who was good second on hurdle debut; returns from layoff, but leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (5/1 -25%) J'habite En France |
5/1(-25%) | (7) J'habite En France 5/1, Fetched £40,000 after finishing second in a 2½m maiden point in January and duly showed ability sent hurdling at Huntingdon last month, 3 lengths behind the runner-up when falling at the last. Entitled to come on for that. Point runner-up who also showed promise on his rules debut; one to be interested in. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (20/1 -67%) Broomhill Road |
20/1(-67%) | (6) Broomhill Road 20/1, Chased home a potentially useful sort on debut in a Doncaster bumper (16.6f, good) in March. Failed to build on that at Huntingdon next time, however, and offered little on hurdles bow at Exeter after 6 months off. Could improve for last month's hurdle debut at Exeter but very much needs to. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (150/1 -50%) Cormackstown Road |
150/1(-50%) | (2) Cormackstown Road 150/1, Runner-up on completed start in points but well held in maiden hurdles 16 months apart. Runner-up in Irish point in May 2021 but well beaten on both rules outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (15/2 +6%) Hiero Sport |
15/2(+6%) | (4) Hiero Sport 15/2, Out of a fairly useful jumper and shaped with plenty of promise when second in Market Rasen bumper on debut back in March. Shaped better than bare result at Fakenham on hurdling debut/return and should do better. Promising second here on bumper debut; hampered on first hurdle start; retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (50/1 -150%) Pertemps Diamond |
50/1(-150%) | (8) Pertemps Diamond 50/1, Minor promise first 3 starts in bumpers but well held at Haydock in May after 3 months off. Makes hurdles debut. Displayed some ability among his four bumpers but improvement needed on hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The votes goes to MAGIC WAVE, who bumped into the now 135-rated Pembroke at Wetherby when last seen. The fact Mark Walford's gelding was sent off as favourite that day would suggest he had been showing up well at home, so he might be a tall order if returning at the top of his game. Pertemps Diamond's best performance came when finishing third to the useful Willlmount in a Doncaster bumper in January and although he failed to kick on thereafter, he's an interesting prospect now switched to hurdles. Hiero Sport appeals most of the remainder.
Useful-bumper winner MAGIC WAVE was beaten only by a useful sort on his hurdles bow at Wetherby when last seen 12 months ago and can start to make up for lost time. J'Habite En France and El Saviour make most appeal of the others.
He has a 365-day absence to defy, but MAGIC WAVE looked a useful prospect last autumn. J'Habite En France is second choice.

1st (1) (3/1 +45%) Blue Baloo |
3/1(+45%) | (1) Blue Baloo 3/1, Hails from a stable that is yet to fire this season, but she showed fairly useful form in bumpers and is bred to take to this sphere, so is worthy of interest returning from 8 months off. Won soft-ground course bumper on Boxing Day; enters calculations on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (22/1 -83%) Bishop Hill |
22/1(-83%) | (9) Bishop Hill 22/1, Showed only minor promise in bumpers but very much caught the eye when fifth of 10 on Ayr hurdling debut (2m) 19 days ago, finishing with running left. Sure to do better, especially now moving up in trip. Kept on steadily for respectable fifth on hurdling debut; needs a good step forward here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (2/1 -6%) Chosen Hero |
2/1(-6%) | (4) Chosen Hero 2/1, Fair bumper winner who ran to a similar level sent hurdling when second of 13 in a novice at Hexham (16.2f, heavy) 13 days ago. Up in trip and has leading claims with improvement on the cards. Point/bumper winner; moves up in trip after clear second on recent hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (15/2 +25%) Carrigeen Kali |
15/2(+25%) | (3) Carrigeen Kali 15/2, Hit the frame in a couple of bumpers from 4 starts last season and shaped like a stayer sent hurdling after 6 months off when fourth of 10 at Hexham (16.2f, heavy) 40 days ago. Likely to do better now upped in trip. Promising fourth on last month's hurdling debut; contests a stronger race here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (5/2 +0%) Saunton Surf |
5/2(+0%) | (11) Saunton Surf 5/2, Easy winner of a point/Aintree bumper for Bradley Gibbs and did well in the circumstances when runner-up on Ludlow hurdling debut (21.3f) after 5 months off, having been badly hampered at the first. Sure to improve. Impressed in Aintree bumper on rules debut; good second over hurdles last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (80/1 -220%) Perfect Poli |
80/1(-220%) | (7) Perfect Poli 80/1, Poor form in bumpers. Looks one for later on. Not beaten far in two spring bumpers but others in this line-up look stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (80/1 -142%) Rory's Story |
80/1(-142%) | (10) Rory's Story 80/1, Modest in bumpers and finished a remote fourth on Hexham hurdle debut in September. Showed some ability in bumpers but lacked fluency when well-held fourth on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (250/1 -279%) Hollywood Harmon |
250/1(-279%) | (5) Hollywood Harmon 250/1, Unplaced completed starts in Irish points and showed nothing on her Rules debut at Worcester in August. Struggling from fairly early stage on stable/hurdle debut in August. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (17/2 -55%) Vive De Charnie |
17/2(-55%) | (8) Vive De Charnie 17/2, Ran to a fair level in a brace of bumpers for Jamie Snowden 10 months apart. Goes hurdling now after 21 months off and the market should offer up some clues. Makes stable/hurdle debut after long layoff but her Fontwell bumper second worked out well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (33/1 -230%) Take It Upstairs |
33/1(-230%) | (12) Take It Upstairs 33/1, Won a point bumper and built on her debut under Rules when second in a Hexham bumper in June. Upped in trip for hurdle debut and more required. Went close in Hexham bumper in June; further progress needed on this hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (100/1 +0%) Izzy Bell |
100/1(+0%) | (6) Izzy Bell 100/1, Has yet to better poor form so easily passed over. Claims if judged on huge-odds third in April but overall profile not persuasive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (300/1 -200%) Born To Sparkle |
300/1(-200%) | (2) Born To Sparkle 300/1, Looked a hard ride when well held in course bumper on debut 11 months ago. Tailed off when 33-1 for soft-ground course bumper won by Blue Baloo on Boxing Day. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
There were plenty of positives to be taken from Saunton Surf's hurdles debut when runner-up at Ludlow last month and another bold bid from the Warren Greatrex-trained filly looks on the cards. However, CHOSEN HERO, who posted a second-placed finish on her opening outing over timber at Hexham recently, makes slightly more appeal. The 3m point winner should appreciate the step up from 2m to 2m4f here and conditions will be no issue. Take It Upstairs may fare best of the remainder.
SAUNTON SURF did notably well to finish second on her Ludlow hurdle debut 4 weeks ago, having been badly hampered at the first, so she's selected to go one better with improvement on the cards. Chosen Hero shouldn't be long in opening her account over hurdles, while Blue Baloo and Bishop Hill are others to note.
After chasing home a dual bumper winner on her hurdling debut at Hexham, CHOSEN HERO moves up in trip here and looks the one to beat.

1st (6) (1/4 -14%) Klassical Dream |
1/4(-14%) | (6) Klassical Dream 1/4, High-class hurdler who added a third Champion Stayers Hurdle to his tally at Punchestown (23.6f) in April. Another smashing effort when third in French Group 1 a month later and he's very much the one to beat now his attentions switch to larger obstacles on return. 7-time Grade 1 winner over timber and very hard to beat if anywhere near that level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 +33%) Digby |
4/1(+33%) | (2) Digby 4/1, Promising sort. 7/1, second of 8 in novice chase at Fairyhouse (21.5f, soft) on debut over fences 47 days ago, keeping on well latter stages. Open to improvement in this sphere. 4-time hurdle winner with RPR of 131; encouraging chase debut latest but plenty to find. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (10/3 -11%) Gold Bullion |
10/3(-11%) | (5) Gold Bullion 10/3, Bumper/hurdles winner who shaped encouragingly when third of 9 on chase debut in a Listowel maiden (22f) back in September, impressing with his jumping. Rates a likely improver in this sphere and expected to be thereabouts. Off the mark over timber at Cork earlier in year; big run when 3rd on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (66/1 +47%) Friends N Commerce |
66/1(+47%) | (4) Friends N Commerce 66/1, Fair hurdler. Remains a maiden after 16 NH runs. Fifth of 6 in novice chase at Galway (22.5f, heavy, 100/1) 25 days ago. Handicaps entitled to be more his bag in this sphere. 16-race maiden and shown very little in two chase starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (200/1 +0%) Made In Muckross |
200/1(+0%) | (7) Made In Muckross 200/1, Thrice-raced maiden under NH rules. 250/1, eighth of 10 in novice chase at Limerick (19f, heavy) on debut over fences 32 days ago. Shown nothing in three starts so far including last month's chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (200/1 -33%) Finnfaraway |
200/1(-33%) | (3) Finnfaraway 200/1, €11,000 3-y-o, Schiaparelli gelding. Dam (h111), 2m-2½m hurdle winner (stayed 3m), half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stays 3¼m) Martha Brae out of 19f-21f hurdle/chase winner. Maiden pointer. 0-13 in points and this is a huge ask on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (125/1 +0%) Criminal Mischief |
125/1(+0%) | (1) Criminal Mischief 125/1, Twelfth of 17 in handicap hurdle at Cork (20f, soft, 80/1) 18 days ago, always behind. Switch to chasing needs to have positive effect now. Struggled since and shown nothing in two runs this term; tough ask on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (200/1 -33%) Soldier Of Honour |
200/1(-33%) | (8) Soldier Of Honour 200/1, Twice-raced maiden. 250/1, seventh of 10 in novice chase at Limerick (19f, heavy) 32 days ago, not knocked about. Low-grade handicaps entitled to be more his bag. Poor form in points and similar story in two chase starts under rules so far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (150/1 +0%) That's Me Finished |
150/1(+0%) | (10) That's Me Finished 150/1, 80/1, seventh of 9 in novice chase at Down Royal (19.6f, soft) on debut over fences 13 days ago. Hard to warm to. Showed very little over timber and tailed off on chase debut earlier this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (11) (100/1 +20%) Coastguard Lady |
100/1(+20%) | (11) Coastguard Lady 100/1, 50/1, pulled up in handicap hurdle at Punchestown (16.2f, good to soft) 43 days ago, behind when pulled up before last. Switches from hurdles to chase. Significantly back up in trip. Well held fourth on chase debut and pulled up over hurdles since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (200/1 -33%) Starlight Cato |
200/1(-33%) | (9) Starlight Cato 200/1, Maiden pointer who not for the first time didn't convince with his jumping when seventh of 10 in hunter chase at Tipperary (23.8f) when last seen in May. Passed over on return. Showed nothing in two hunter chases under rules earlier in the year; off 203 days. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
While a late recruit to fences, Klassical Dream is head and shoulders above his 10 rivals here and with a clean round of jumping, he should prevail. A seven-time winner at the highest level over flights, he was last seen finishing a fine third in the French Champion Hurdle at Auteuil in June, with the likes of Hewick, Flooring Porter and Asterion Forlonge all in behind. Successful three times over the smaller obstacles, Digby stands out as the danger. A real stayer, he ran a fine race on his first start over fences at Fairyhouse last month and is sure to come on plenty for that experience. Gold Bullion is another who ran with plenty of credit on his first try chasing, finishing third behind Power Of Pause at Listowel. It'll come as a surprise if the Fame And Glory seven-year-old fails to make the frame here. The aforementioned trio are a cut above the remainder.
Firmly established as a high-class staying hurdler, KLASSICAL DREAM signed off last term with victory/placed efforts in Grade 1 company and this looks a very good opportunity form him to make a winning return/chase debut. Gold Bullion and Digby comfortably rate best of those in opposition.
If KLASSICAL DREAM can get anywhere near the level of his hurdle form, he will be very hard to beat on chase debut

1st (1) (7/2 +13%) Him Malaya |
7/2(+13%) | (1) Him Malaya 7/2, Improved effort for his top yard when runner-up on 2m Ludlow handicap debut in May but didn't jump well enough at Warwick next time. Shaped as if needing the run on recent return over C&D and he appeals as the type to do better still this season. Below par on soft here last time; drying conditions would bring him into the equation. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (28/1 +15%) Daany |
28/1(+15%) | (10) Daany 28/1, Modest 1m winner on Flat who probably remained in form but showed his irresolute side once more when a well-beaten sixth at Exeter (16.7f, soft) just under 2 weeks ago, carrying head awkwardly/hanging left. Will need to take a step forward on previous exploits in this sphere to feature. Not disgraced last time but was still well held and he's higher in the weights here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (18/1 +45%) Miss Marette |
18/1(+45%) | (7) Miss Marette 18/1, Was entering 'longstanding maiden' territory prior to belatedly opening her account back from 12 months off at Exeter (novice) in October. Failed badly to back up that form returned to a big-field handicap there a month later and it's easy enough to look elsewhere. The ground was fast when producing easily her best form in a mares' maiden. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/2 -13%) R S Ambush |
9/2(-13%) | (3) R S Ambush 9/2, Fell sole start in points but offered something to work on in a couple of spins in maiden hurdles in Ireland this summer. Took a step forward on first start for this yard when runner-up in novice at Worcester (16f, soft) 6 weeks ago and fancied to have more to offer now handicapping. Bumped into one at Worcester and he's an interesting handicap debutant. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (7/1 -40%) Escobedo |
7/1(-40%) | (9) Escobedo 7/1, Belatedly off the mark over hurdles on final start for Milton Harris at Sedgefield in October (sold for 3,500 gns) and offered something to work on back on the Flat when fourth at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 5 days ago, nearest at the finish having been left poorly placed. Can feature back hurdling. Good recent runs on the Flat and over jumps, but drier ground would be preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (3/1 +10%) Tidal Storm |
3/1(+10%) | (6) Tidal Storm 3/1, Fair handicapper on Flat who made an encouraging start over timber when third of 14 at Taunton (16.5f) last December. Hasn't kicked on both starts in this sphere since (latest on yard debut) but fancied to have more of a say now handicapping for a yard going great guns. Has to be of interest for this yard now sent into a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (12/1 +25%) Hunters Song |
12/1(+25%) | (5) Hunters Song 12/1, Shown bits and pieces of form in Ireland and better than bare result when sixth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, good to soft) on debut for new yard back in April, ending up with far too much to do under this inexperienced conditional. Cheekpieces/tongue tie applied. Well beaten over 2m3f on British debut but he's still one to consider in new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (16/1 -78%) Angel's Dream |
16/1(-78%) | (4) Angel's Dream 16/1, Debut 13f Flat winner in France. Took a big step forward for current yard when cosily landing 2m novice hurdle at Plumpton in May but shaped as if better for the run on return/handicap debut at Kempton (16f, good to soft) 10 days ago. Others look stronger, nonetheless. Perhaps needed it at Kempton on handicap debut and that was in a higher grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (5/1 +29%) Double Click |
5/1(+29%) | (2) Double Click 5/1, Unplaced in Irish points but promising start under Rules, supplementing his C&D maiden success on handicap debut at Ffos Las (15,8f, soft) in May. Produced a laboured effort under less testing conditions at Warwick later that month and he's one to look out for on return. Had looked progressive before not giving his running on ground too fast at Warwick. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Escobedo won a similar race at Sedgefield when last seen over hurdles in early October and another bold bid can be expected of just a 6lb higher mark. Double Click also enters calculations based on the fact that he is 2-4 in this sphere and has scope to improve on his seasonal return. However, R S AMBUSH posted a commendable effort when second on his British debut last month and, given the winner of that race was placed in a Grade 2 next time, the form looks solid at this stage.
This can go the way of R S AMBUSH, who took a significant step forward when runner-up on first start for Dr Richard Newland at Worcester 6 weeks ago and with further improvement anticipated now handicapping, he can go a place better at the expense of Him Malaya, who could well leave his reappearance effort behind for Paul Nicholls. Escobedo and Tidal Storm can fight out third spot.
Handicap debutant R S AMBUSH looks interesting after chasing home a Graded horse at Worcester and the third has also run well since.

1st (3) (5/2 -43%) Lady Gwen |
5/2(-43%) | (3) Lady Gwen 5/2, Made a winning reappearance for her new yard at Stratford in July and resumed winning ways in conditional jockeys' handicap at Taunton (16.5f, good to soft) 7 days ago. The one to beat off an unchanged mark. Escapes a penalty for last Thursday's big-field handicap win at Taunton; tough to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (5/2 +58%) Minella Plus |
5/2(+58%) | (1) Minella Plus 5/2, Hinted at a revival when fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle (3/1) at Ludlow (15.8f, good) 43 days ago. A fairly useful winner at his best so he is well worth considering off a 2 lb lower mark. Has a regressive profile but is on a reduced mark and is not discounted now down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (10/1 -233%) Climate Precedent |
10/1(-233%) | (10) Climate Precedent 10/1, Fair maiden on the Flat for Michael Bell who made a solid yard/hurdling debut when second at Uttoxeter in July. Failed to stay when fourth at Warwick on heavy ground after but he can't be ruled out under these less testing conditions. Promise on first of his two hurdle starts; valuable 16lb 3yo allowance today; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/1 +10%) Hugueneau |
9/1(+10%) | (6) Hugueneau 9/1, Points winner but he failed to land a blow in three runs over hurdles for Lawney Hill. Lots to prove for his new handler after 6 months off. Goes handicapping off lowly mark on first run for Dan Skelton; one to watch in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (40/1 -100%) We Still Believe |
40/1(-100%) | (8) We Still Believe 40/1, Dual winner on the Flat for new yard this summer so this lightly-raced hurdler is no forlorn hope back in this sphere. Three Flat wins this year but struggled in the summer on last two hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (18/1 -29%) Blue Bear |
18/1(-29%) | (4) Blue Bear 18/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. Excellent fifth of 10 in novice hurdle at Kelso (16.2f, heavy, 80/1) 26 days ago, left with lot to do. Much respected on his handicap hurdle debut. Fair fifth at Kelso last time and he could continue to improve now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (33/1 +0%) Royal Max |
33/1(+0%) | (5) Royal Max 33/1, First run since leaving Nicky Henderson when pulled up in handicap hurdle at Southwell (24.3f, good to soft, 50/1) 51 days ago, Others appeal more. Stretched by 3m on yard debut; drops back in trip here but claims aren't overly compelling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (3/1 +70%) Tropical Talent |
3/1(+70%) | (9) Tropical Talent 3/1, Fair maiden on the Flat. Fourth both starts over hurdles, not getting home at Huntingdon on latter occasion in January for Sylvester Kirk. More is needed for his new yard. A doubt regarding stamina for this game but new stable is in excellent form; check betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (18/1 -300%) Racy Lacey |
18/1(-300%) | (2) Racy Lacey 18/1, Fair maiden at up to 14f on the Flat and made a successful debut over hurdles over C&D in April, 2022. Off 18 months since coming in only fifth at Hexham after so has her fitness to prove. Off since April 2022 but trainer has shown this autumn he can ready one after an absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (50/1 -52%) Seaborough |
50/1(-52%) | (7) Seaborough 50/1, A fair hurdles winner at his best but he's yet to show much this season, pulled up in handicap at Doncaster (20.8f, good) 6 days ago. Has work to do. Runs off last winning mark but a long way below his best in his four starts this year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LADY GWEN escapes a penalty having landed a conditional riders' event under Kai Lenihan one week ago and that could prove vital as Kim Bailey's in-form mare bids to repeat the dose. Minella Plus continues to fall down the handicap and it would be no surprise to see an improved showing now eased in class. Climate Precedent, who makes his handicap debut from what appears to be a workable mark, is also noted.
A few with chances but LADY GWEN escapes a penalty for her recent Taunton conditional jockeys' success so is hard to oppose. Minella Plus took a step back in the right direction when fifth at Ludlow last time and appeals as the one to chase home Kim Bailey's mare, with Climate Precedent appealing as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
The 5yo mare LADY GWEN prevailed in a big field at Taunton last Thursday and escapes a penalty here. Hugueneau is a danger.

1st (9) (33/1 -65%) Goodoldbill |
33/1(-65%) | (9) Goodoldbill 33/1, Successful in Irish points but offered little over hurdles and, after 7 months off, pulled up on his chase debut at Kelso (17.1f) in October. Looks to be up against it as he goes significantly up in distance. Well held in his completed starts over hurdles and was pulled up on chase debut last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (2/1 +20%) Imperial Alex |
2/1(+20%) | (1) Imperial Alex 2/1, Progressive over hurdles, winning handicap at Warwick in February, and left his seasonal/chase debut well behind when runner-up in handicap at the same course (25.4f) 16 days ago. Open to further improvement and he can open his account over fences. Unexposed chaser who was a clear second of 18 at Warwick (3m1f) two weeks ago; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (7/2 +13%) Elleon |
7/2(+13%) | (6) Elleon 7/2, Yet to win over fences but runner-up on six of his last 7 starts, bumping into one who had dropped in the weights when last seen at Carlisle (24.5f) in March. Can be thereabouts once more as he makes his return from 8 months off. Runner-up over fences in his last five runs last season and he's respected on return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (15/2 +6%) Coolmoyne |
15/2(+6%) | (7) Coolmoyne 15/2, Still looking for first win but has proved consistent over fences, reeled in close home at Sedgefield (19.3f) on return. Not beaten far when fifth of 6 at Carlisle next time, before placed again back at Sedgefield 2 weeks ago. Up in trip with blinkers applied. Consistent over fences but he's now 0-15 and has stamina to prove at this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (4/1 +67%) Benny Baloo |
4/1(+67%) | (8) Benny Baloo 4/1, Little impact in trio of novice/maiden hurdles and failed to improve when fifth in handicap at Sedgefield (27f) when last seen in February. However, he did win a point and yard have had success with the family, so he could yet do better sent chasing. Point winner but he struggled over hurdles and needs major improvement on his chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (14/1 -56%) Don Brocco |
14/1(-56%) | (4) Don Brocco 14/1, Back-to-back winner of staying handicap hurdles in February/March 2022 but struggled last season. Fared better following a wind op when sixth of 14 at Cartmel in May, before looking rusty after 6 months off at Kelso 12 day ago. More needed as he goes chasing. Has lost his way over hurdles and has quite a lot to prove on this chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (20/1 -186%) Augharue |
20/1(-186%) | (2) Augharue 20/1, Shaped best on his second chase start when runner-up in handicap at Hexham (15.6f) in October, looking in control until 13-month absence told near finish. Possibly found race coming too soon 2 weeks later, so he could bounce back as he goes up in trip. Disappointing at Kelso and has something to prove again on this big rethink in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (5) (5/1 -43%) Pats Dream |
5/1(-43%) | (5) Pats Dream 5/1, Didn't offer much in 4 outings over hurdles last season. However, he had made the frame both starts in Irish points and shaped well sent chasing when third in Kelso handicap (23.4f) last month, jumping accurately. Should have more to offer over fences. Made an encouraging start over fences at Kelso and has claims if he can build on that. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
IMPERIAL ALEX's stamina may have been stretched by the 3m1f distance when runner-up at Warwick earlier in the month and compensation could await on this ease in trip, despite the handicapper having his say with a 5lb rise in the ratings. Elleon posted a string of second-placed finishes last season and the eight-year-old may give the selection most to think about on his return to action, while Augharue is a potential improver now upped to an extended 2m7f.
IMPERIAL ALEX was much improved from his chase debut when runner-up at Warwick 16 days ago, pulling clear of the rest having met trouble on the run-in, and he can build on that to go one better. Pats Dream shaped encouragingly sent chasing last month and could be the main danger, while Elleon can give his running once again.
Preference is for Tom Lacey's unexposed chaser IMPERIAL ALEX, who was a clear second in a big-field handicap at Warwick two weeks ago.

This has a very open look to it. Four of these faced off over the course and distance earlier this month, with Name Me Famous coming out on top. MCGRATH FROM CLUNE was the subject of a gamble on that occasion and while he could manage only fourth, he might be able to reverse the form now. Sure to strip fitter for that effort, which was his first since May, the Califet seven-year-old should give a good account of himself on what will be his third start over fences. The aforementioned Name Me Famous went up 7lb for his recent win and will have to defy top-weight if he is to follow up here. Game And Glory may prove the best of Philip Rothwell's three representatives, while handicap debutant Maciver is of definite interest with Darragh O'Keeffe aboard. Successful in this very race 12 months ago, Filon D'oudairies warrants respect in first-time cheekpieces, with Lake Chad another for the shortlist.
NAME ME FAMOUS resumed winning ways back from a break here 3 weeks ago, his jumping proving and asset this time, and he should have more to offer in this sphere. Leigh Oscars Son and Mcgrath From Clune both remain with potential in this sphere and are feared most.
There was plenty to like about the performance of MCGRATH FROM CLUNE and he should come on for that

1st (1) (4/1 -78%) Tritonic |
4/1(-78%) | (1) Tritonic 4/1, Useful handicap hurdler and similar form at staying trips on the Flat, shaping better than distance beaten suggest when midfield in last month's Cesarewitch at Newmarket. Interesting his very good handler switches attentions to larger obstacles and he's respected. Well treated on peak hurdle form and was placed at Royal Ascot this summer; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/8 +39%) Beau Balko |
11/8(+39%) | (3) Beau Balko 11/8, Successful on his sole Flat start in France and successful twice over hurdles for present stable last winter. Looked a natural and typically travelled well before folding tamely from 4 out on return/chase debut at Ffos Las in October but he remains type to do better in this sphere. Useful hurdle form; shaped as though his chase debut would bring him on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (7/2 +13%) Scarface |
7/2(+13%) | (4) Scarface 7/2, Recorded a brace of small-field novice hurdle victories this time last year and ended last term with a pair of solid efforts in defeat in handicaps. Return/debut over fences at Ascot 19 days ago was disappointing (made novicey mistakes) but this ought to reveal more. Competitive mark on hurdle form; lost his confidence after interference on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (11/4 -22%) Soul Icon |
11/4(-22%) | (2) Soul Icon 11/4, Real success story in handicap hurdles, adding another victory to his tally on return at Fontwell (19.2f) last month. Similar form from this career-high mark when fourth in 16-runner Cheltenham handicap (19.9f) subsequently and he's not out of things now switched to larger obstacles. Prolific winning hurdler who could easily take to fences and do well. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Soul Icon shaped nicely over hurdles and, given his tendency to jump out to the right, this course could play to his strengths if he adapts to fences on his chasing debut. Returning to going right-handed should also suit Beau Balko, whose best form over timber was posted going this way round. However, TRITONIC has some high-class hurdles form to his name and, now sent chasing off a competitive mark, he looks worth chancing. Scarface can also figure if his jumping holds together this time.
BEAU BALKO rates the type to make a chaser and looked a natural in the jumping department before folding from 4 out on his debut over fences at Ffos Las 39 days ago. However, he remains likely to do better in this sphere for his leading stable and gets the nod to leave that behind and come out on top. Tritonic and Soul Icon can give him plenty to think about, however.
All four have claims but SCARFACE is given another chance as not a lot went right on his return at Ascot.

1st (5) (10/3 +17%) Gaye Legacy |
10/3(+17%) | (5) Gaye Legacy 10/3, Lightly-raced hurdler who took a step forward when third at Chepstow last time, closing all the way to the line. Should be suited by the step up in trip and looks the one to beat. Latest 2m3f performance, allied with her pedigree, suggests this step up in trip will suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (3/1 +40%) Phillapa Sue |
3/1(+40%) | (2) Phillapa Sue 3/1, First run since leaving Fergal O'Brien when bit below form fourth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (21.4f, soft, 15/2) 25 days ago. Likely to strip fitter for that and is back down to an appealing mark, so worthy of consideration. Just 1lb above last winning mark but has to get back to very best and is unproven at trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (9/1 -200%) Sinndarella |
9/1(-200%) | (3) Sinndarella 9/1, Career best when winning 6-runner handicap hurdle (4/1) at Cartmel (22.1f, soft) 87 days ago, finding extra. Should give another good account. Won at Cartmel in August when last seen and a 4lb rise isn't harsh; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (14/1 -75%) Just Sophie |
14/1(-75%) | (4) Just Sophie 14/1, Won a 19.5f Huntingdon novice hurdle in March but below that level when a well-held third in a couple of handicaps in the summer. First outing for 4 months. Well beaten on soft/heavy in both h'caps; may bounce back when returning to better ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (10/3 -11%) Jersey Lady |
10/3(-11%) | (1) Jersey Lady 10/3, Consistent sort who landed a hat-trick under this jockey earlier in the year, Probably needed the run on seasonal/stable debut at Exeter 13 days ago, so should be closer to form this time. Posted a hat-trick in April-June and could improve for her recent comeback outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (4/1 +67%) Hillfinch |
4/1(+67%) | (6) Hillfinch 4/1, Won mares handicap at Huntingdon in March and, while not at best on both subsequent outings, she should strip fitter for her reappearance. Not dismissed. May have needed reappearance run; case can be made on form in the first half of the spring. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (12/1 -71%) Kentford Mallard |
12/1(-71%) | (7) Kentford Mallard 12/1, Consistent mare who built on her Fontwell run when landing 7-runner handicap at Hereford in October. Fell 5 out there last time but should give her running if none the worse for that. Won at Hereford last month and fell before things got serious back there last time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
It might pay to side with JERSEY LADY, who failed to live up to market expectations on her stable debut earlier this month. That effort ought to have blown away the cobwebs, however, and the daughter of Martaline, who stays further than this, will appreciate the step up in trip. Sinndarella was a winner at Cartmel in August and she looks a likely player from just 4lb higher. Gaye Legacy should not be underestimated either.
GAYE LEGACY looked ahead of her mark when a staying-on third at Chepstow last time and, with this longer trip likely to bring more out of her, she's fancied to get off the mark at the possible expense of last-time-out winner Sinndarella. Jersey Lady is also considered.
The lightly raced GAYE LEGACY is from the family of smart staying chaser Simon and this step up in trip could be just what she needs.

9/2(+0%) | (7) Tune In A Box 9/2, Hinted at ability in a bumper and, while he's yet to make an impact over hurdles, there was more encouragement in a novice at Wetherby last time, finishing with running left. Open to improvement upped in trip for handicap debut. Yet to show anything more than minor promise; up in trip for handicap debut. |

2nd (6) (13/2 +28%) Just Jess |
13/2(+28%) | (6) Just Jess 13/2, More miss than hit since scoring at Catterick in January, pulled up at Hexham on reapppearance. Stable showing better signs recently, so worth a market check. Will handle today's ground but needs last month's reappearance run to have brought her on. |

3rd (3) (11/1 -10%) Velasco |
11/1(-10%) | (3) Velasco 11/1, Back on earlier this year, confirming previous encouragement when landing a 7-runner handicap at Hexham 5 months ago. Remains well treated on old form but is likely to need this. Made all on good ground at Hexham in June but not seen again since. |

4th (1) (5/2 +0%) So Many Roads |
5/2(+0%) | (1) So Many Roads 5/2, Much improved when justifying support on handicap debut in 17-runner contest at Ayr (heavy) in January. Mid-race faller on final start of last season and just respectable return at Carlisle, but pomises to be well suited by this longer trip. Won on heavy ground in January and ran well on seasonal debut; new trip today; big player. |

5th (10) (5/1 +0%) Solway Primrose |
5/1(+0%) | (10) Solway Primrose 5/1, Has upped her game since switched to staying handicaps and opened her account at Hexham 13 days ago, doing well to come from last and having a bit in hand. Deserves respect. Lightly raced 9yo who won on heavy ground this month, her first run after a wind op. |

6th (4) (13/2 +54%) Perculator |
13/2(+54%) | (4) Perculator 13/2, Bumper winner but yet to really kick on over hurdles, only fourth over C&D 7 months ago. May do better this season. Ran quite well over C&D in March but needs to find something extra on this seasonal debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (15/2 +46%) My Strong Man |
15/2(+46%) | (9) My Strong Man 15/2, Poor maiden handicap hurdler who arrives fit from a spin on the Flat. Nothing in hand of current mark, though, son others are more persuasive. 0-15 over hurdles; struggled in heavy-ground Flat race last month; others preferred here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (14/1 -211%) Dequall |
14/1(-211%) | (5) Dequall 14/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2021. 12/1, third of 7 in handicap hurdle at Kelso (25.8f, heavy) 26 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Not without a chance. Made pleasing return from long layoff last month and well well handicapped on old form. |

|PU| (2) (40/1 -233%) Largy Train |
40/1(-233%) | (2) Largy Train 40/1, Made a winning debut in bumper for Stuart Crawford in May 2021 but has gone the wrong way since. Pulled up in first three hurdles but last month's Carlisle third was much better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (50/1 -100%) Swift Reply |
50/1(-100%) | (8) Swift Reply 50/1, Unseated in a point and limited encouragement so far over hurdles. Might show more switched to handicaps, however. Has made a low-key start to his hurdling career but improvement is possible in handicaps. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SOLWAY PRIMROSE reaped the rewards of last month's wind procedure when opening her account at Hexham recently and this lightly-raced mare must hold every chance of completing a double off only 4lb higher. Dequall offered something to work with when finishing a respectable third after a 556-day absence at Kelso last month. Stuart Coltherd's gelding is entitled to improve for that effort and he is one to consider, along with handicap debutant Tune In A Box, who may unlock some improvement now faced with a stiffer stamina test.
SO MANY ROADS is still unexposed and should come on for his reappearance, so he's worth a chance to resume progress up in trip. Tune In A Box is a notable handicap debutant and Solway Primrose deserves respect after scoring at Hexham with something to spare.
Heavy-ground winner SO MANY ROADS still has low mileage, and moves up in trip after a very encouraging seasonal debut over 2m4f.

Remains open to improvement and yard couldn't be in better form. Ran creditably against some top bumper performers, can follow up Sligo maiden hurdle win. |

2nd (2) (10/3 +33%) Getaway Charlie |
10/3(+33%) | (2) Getaway Charlie 10/3, Career best when winning 19-runner handicap hurdle (well-backed 7/2) at Punchestown (23f, good) just over 6 weeks ago, impressing with the way he went through the race back up in trip (runner-up won well since). Fancied to be bang there having just a second start in a novice. Promoted to 119 after Clonmel handicap win, more needed to make a race of it with Will Do. |

3rd (3) (12/1 -200%) Moon D'Orange |
12/1(-200%) | (3) Moon D'Orange 12/1, Winner in hurdle at Cartmel in May. 8/1, ran creditably under a penalty when second of 11 in novice hurdle at Carlisle (20f, soft) 18 days ago, flattered by proximity to an above-average prospect. Likely he will find a couple too strong. Put in a pleasing display behind the smart-looking Johnnywho at Carlisle, should go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (20/1 -11%) Sarah Beara |
20/1(-11%) | (6) Sarah Beara 20/1, Winner at Wexford in August. 5/2, fourth of 7 in novice chase at Ballinrobe (23f, good to soft) on debut over fences 10 weeks ago. Reverts to hurdles and would need a career best to take this. Progressive in handicaps in August, not likely to be good enough to win in this grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (18/1 +28%) Glendars Mahler |
18/1(+28%) | (5) Glendars Mahler 18/1, Winner at Sligo in August. Shaped as if as good as ever under an aggressive ride when fifth of 12 in handicap hurdle (22/1) at this course (20.5f, soft) 3 weeks ago. Tough ask here. Sligo maiden winner, subsequent handicap form below the standard that will be needed here. |

6th (1) (50/1 -150%) Chance The Robin |
50/1(-150%) | (1) Chance The Robin 50/1, Did little wrong in bumpers and wasn't overly extended when making a winning debut in this sphere at Hexham (23.3f) in May. 13/2, shaped as if needing the run after 6 months off when fourth of 5 in novice hurdle at Kelso (22.7f, soft) 12 days ago. Best watched. Bumper and hurdles winner at Hexham, form does not amount to much in an Irish context. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
GETAWAY CHARLIE might be able to upstage likely favourite Will Do. After many fine efforts in defeat, the selection finally made the breakthrough at Punchestown last month, comfortably accounting for 18 rivals. A real staying type, the Getaway bay will be ridden by David Doyle and his 7lb claim could prove crucial. Successful on his first try over flights at Sligo last month, the hat-trick seeking Will Do is given second preference, representing the in-form team of Gordon Elliott and Jack Kennedy. John McConnell saddles Chance The Robin and Moon D'orange, with Ben Harvey opting to partner the latter. He got within two lengths of the promising Johnnywho at Carlisle earlier this month and a reproduction of that effort would see him go close. Sarah Beara has been ultimately disappointing since landing a gamble at Wexford in August and back over flights now, it'll be interesting to see how she fares.
Gordon Elliott continues to sweep all before him and having been successful in this corresponding event 12 months ago, WILL DO is fancied to repeat the feat and continue his promising start over hurdles. Getaway Charlie opened his account at Punchestown just over 6 weeks ago and he looks the most obvious threat, with Moon d'Orange seemingly best of the rest.
Gordon Elliott has a depth of talent in the novice division and WILL DO is potentially in a different league to these rivals

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (22/1 +45%) Thirtyfour Thirty |
22/1(+45%) | (10) Thirtyfour Thirty 22/1, Fairly useful bumper winner for Nigel Twiston-Davies in the summer but below that level both starts over hurdles. Needs this run for a handicap mark. Each-way claims on the strength of latest fourth here behind the smart Meatloaf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (3/1 +33%) Pentire Head |
3/1(+33%) | (6) Pentire Head 3/1, Fetched €145,000 as a 3-y-o and showed plenty of ability when placed all 3 starts in bumpers last season, despite not looking totally straightforward. Harry Cobden prefers Il Pino, though. Respectable bumper form and can benefit from this stiffer stamina test now hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (10/1 +70%) Ri Na Cuirte |
10/1(+70%) | (7) Ri Na Cuirte 10/1, From the family of very smart staying chaser Nil Desperandum. Finished runner-up on the second of 2 starts in Irish points and shaped with some encouragement when fifth of 15 in a Chepstow maiden (19.4f) on Rules debut 23 days ago. Encouraging effort at Chepstow and fully entitled to come on for that run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (8/1 -33%) Rockwiththetimes |
8/1(-33%) | (8) Rockwiththetimes 8/1, £50,000 5-y-o, Shirocco gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including smart hurdler/useful chaser Movewiththetimes and smart 2¼m hurdle winner Venture Capital, stayed 2¾m. Off mark in Irish points at second attempt (Nov 2022). Interesting Rules newcomer. Bought for £50,000 after winning his second Irish point and there's substance to that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (7/1 +56%) Sparkling Duke |
7/1(+56%) | (9) Sparkling Duke 7/1, Half-brother to 5 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/smart chaser Wounded Warrior and offered plenty more than on his sole start in bumpers when fourth on last month's Aintree hurdle debut (20f). Yard going well and he ought to improve. They went a very steady gallop when beaten 18l on hurdling debut at Aintree. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (100/1 +50%) Katopop |
100/1(+50%) | (4) Katopop 100/1, Runner-up completed start in points but made an unpromising start to his Rules career when pulled up in a novice hurdle at Taunton 9 months ago. Placed in his first point; 100-1 for hurdling debut at Taunton and ran accordingly (2m3f). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Paul Nicholls won six consecutive runnings of this race up to 2020 and he holds another live chance in the shape of intriguing Rules debutant IL PINO. A comfortable winner of his sole start in a point-to-point, the son of Coastal Path follows a tried and trusted path on his debut run for the champion trainer and appeals most based on potential. Pentire Head has shown promise in bumpers and adds further strength to Nicholls' hand, while Ri Na Cuirte and Thirtyfour Thirty are also considered.
IL PINO was successful on his sole outing in points and it looks significant Harry Cobden has chosen to ride him rather than his stablemate Pentire Head, who has shown a decent level of form in bumpers. Sparkling Duke has a good pedigree and should build on his opening effort over hurdles at Aintree, while winning-pointer Rockwiththetimes and Idefix de Ciergues add further spice to the race.
The Tizzard yard is in much better form now than when LORD OF THUNDER was highly tried on his hurdling debut.

1st (2) (7/2 +22%) Itchy Feet |
7/2(+22%) | (2) Itchy Feet 7/2, Rejuvenated by return to hurdles when landing 12-runner Huntingdon handicap (25f) in January prior to good second in Haydock Grade 2. Struggled in competitive Festival handicaps next 2 starts and ran poorly on his return to Newton Abbot last month but a bounce back wouldn't surprise. May have needed reappearance and capable of playing leading role now off last winning mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (7/1 +36%) Giovanni Change |
7/1(+36%) | (5) Giovanni Change 7/1, Prone to mistakes over hurdles but recorded a fourth success in May. However, has been pulled up both outings since, including at Aintree last month. Enough to prove. 4-time course winner; the return here is a plus but it needs to trigger a major turnaround. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/4 -147%) Le Milos |
9/4(-147%) | (1) Le Milos 9/4, Improved further over fences for Dan Skelton last term, winning hot Newbury handicap chase and then shaping second best at Kelso 6 weeks later, sent for home earlier than ideal. Found the test too much in the Grand National on final outing and now reverts to hurdling off a 6 lb lower mark. Well handicapped on last season's chase form; goes well fresh and he's respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (4/1 +33%) Spike Jones |
4/1(+33%) | (6) Spike Jones 4/1, Successful twice over 3¼m at Fontwell last season and ended the campaign with a near miss at Kelso in March. However, underwent a breathing operation prior to pulling up on reappearance at Cheltenham. Progressive last season and he may have needed last month's reappearance run at Cheltenham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (11/4 +63%) Jet Of Magic |
11/4(+63%) | (3) Jet Of Magic 11/4, Positive start for new yard, winning over hurdles at Uttoxeter (23f) in July. Every chance when unseated back there 4 weeks later and shaped better than the distance beaten suggests at Cheltenham (3m) on most recent outing. Player back in calmer waters. Made all at Uttoxeter in July and he's had excuses the last twice; could make a bold bid. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Last year's Coral Gold Cup hero Le Milos returns to action having run well for a long way in the Grand National before not appearing to quite get home in the closing stages. Dan Skelton's gelding is likely to need this outing ahead of bigger assignments back over the larger obstacles and the vote, therefore, goes to SPIKE JONES. Pulled up at Cheltenham last month, the six-year-old is expected to leave that performance behind him. Itchy Feet and Jet Of Magic appeal most of the remainder.
LE MILOS raised his game over fences for Dan Skelton last season and now reverts to hurdling on a favourable mark on the pick of those efforts, so he looks the most persuasive option. Jet of Magic isn't the most fluent of jumpers, but he shaped better than the distance beaten suggests in a well-contested handicap at Cheltenham on his most recent outing and should find this easier.
Preference is for the front-runner JET OF MAGIC, who won at Uttoxeter in July and for whom early interference proved costly last month.

(6) (13/2 -8%)13/2(-8%) | (6) Ex S'Elance 13/2, Looked temperamental over hurdles but strung several decent efforts together sent chasing in the spring, including when winning at Hexham and this course (both 20.1f). Pleasing return when good fourth of 12 in handicap chase at Ayr (20.5f, good) 19 days ago and he enters calculations. Dual heavy-ground winner last season and ran well this month, after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (4) (4/1 +71%) Aire Valley Lad |
4/1(+71%) | (4) Aire Valley Lad 4/1, Belatedly opened chase account at Wetherby (24.2f) in December. Has finished down the field over hurdles all 3 outings this campaign and looks tricky to fancy back over fences. Back from break with two down-the-field hurdle runs this autumn; needs to raise game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (7/2 -27%) Tom Cody |
7/2(-27%) | (2) Tom Cody 7/2, Multiple point winner was below expectations back under Rules when fourth in a Carlisle novice hurdle last month. Only start in hunter chases was encouraging, though, and he's an interesting handicap chase newcomer. Ex-pointer; ran okay in novice hurdle on seasonal/stable debut; handicap chase debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (13/2 +35%) Eveque |
13/2(+35%) | (7) Eveque 13/2, More encouragement from a sliding mark when fourth in a 15-runner Hexham handicap on final outing last season but ran poorly on his return and others are more persuasive. Ran well at Hexham at end of last season but dropped out tamely there last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/1 -27%) Event Of Sivola |
7/1(-27%) | (5) Event Of Sivola 7/1, Won at Hexham (31.9f) this time last year and largely held form well in defeat subsequently. Likely to better for a recent spin over hurdles at that same course and he's not dismissed back over fences. Has conditions to suit but was pulled up last month, after a break; hard to predict. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (9/2 -80%) En Meme Temps |
9/2(-80%) | (1) En Meme Temps 9/2, Belatedly hit the target over fences when landing a heavy-ground 2½m Hexham handicap in March. Reappearance second over the same C&D was a solid effort, so respected despite being comparatively exposed. Not the force of old but posted a sound effort at Hexham last month and has won on heavy. |

|F| (3) (7/2 +50%) Morozov Cocktail |
7/2(+50%) | (3) Morozov Cocktail 7/2, Not at his best in a winless 2022/23 season and has tended to come on from his comeback run, so others make more appeal on return from 7 months off. Thorough stayer; not seen since poor run in April but resumes on career-low mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (12/1 +0%) Ballintogher Boy |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Ballintogher Boy 12/1, Yet to add to his C&D win back in March 2022 and was beaten a long way out after 12-month absence at Sedgefield a fortnight ago. Hard to fancy. C&D winner in March 2022 but has run to form on only one of four appearances since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (150/1 -200%) Diamond Road |
150/1(-200%) | (9) Diamond Road 150/1, Yet to show any worthwhile form, his third here in March still decidedly poor stuff, and he looks set for another struggle on return. 12-race maiden who makes very limited appeal from 4lb out of the weights. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
EN MEME TEMPS finished second on his return from a break at Hexham last month and the nine-year-old, who remains on the same mark, gets the vote to go one better. Ex S'elance ran with plenty of credit when fourth at Ayr earlier in the month and the step back up in trip may yield further improvement. Others to note include Tom Cody and Eveque.
EX S'ELANCE has taken to chasing better than may have been expected and can build on a good comeback run at Ayr to gain a third win in this sphere. Prolific point winner Tom Cody is somewhat of an unknown quantity on his handicap chase bow and has to respected, with Event of Sivola also interesting on last year's form.
Five-time point winner TOM CODY hasn't been with Rebecca Menzies long and is taken to make a winning handicap chase debut.

Possibilities if building on that initial effort Point winner in the spring, will need more hurdling experience on evidence of Galway run. |

WHY DELILAH disappointed when last seen at Gowran Park in February, pulling up in a bumper. She reportedly didn't handle the ground then but had run well in similar conditions when second at Punchestown on her debut the previous month. This looks like a nice starting point for her over timber, with the ground not too testing, and the yard is flying. Workforadime ran well when third in handicap company at Down Royal recently and is entitled to be thereabouts again in this company. Mollys Glory, placed in a Listed bumper, hasn't quite shown that same level over timber but has some solid form. She has to give weight to the field which makes things a bit tougher.
WORKFORADIME looks the way to go on the back of her very good third in a big-field handicap at Down Royal last time now reverted to maiden company. Milanaway also has the form to play a part and is feared most ahead of hurdling newcomers Why Delilah and Littlebiggie.
It may be worth taking a chance on LITTLEBIGGIE, a point winner who chased home a top-drawer bumper mare at Sligo

Has since undergone a breathing op and she's worth another chance now going over hurdles. Hooded for 1st time. Winning pointer; very free in a bumper and well held; now hooded and had a wind op. |

|PU| (8) (40/1 +60%) Mollie Brown |
40/1(+60%) | (8) Mollie Brown 40/1, Lightly-raced maiden, best run when seventh of 13 in novice hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, good) 6 months ago. Back down in trip and market can guide on her return. Hasn't shown a great deal so far and was well behind Goodtimecrew in a bumper here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Useful Flat performer PAWAPURI was set some tough assignments last season and she was far from disgraced when finishing fourth in the Adonis at Kempton in February, as well as when ninth in the Grade 1 4-Y-O Juvenile Hurdle at Aintree in April. Nicky Henderson's filly looks the one to beat in these calmer waters, with Goodtimecrew feared most. The five-year-old posted a close-up second on her hurdles debut at Plumpton recently and should have more to offer in this sphere. Winning pointer Annie K is another to note.
PAWAPURI showed plenty of promise in good hurdling company last term and this useful Flat scorer is fancied to open her account in this sphere now her sights are lowered on her return. Goodtimecrew seems sure to build on her debut Plumpton second and is next on the list ahead of Paul Nicholls' hurdling newcomer Annie K.
Dual Flat winner PAWAPURI has her sights lowered considerably after last season's Graded assignments.

2nd (5) (16/1 -60%) Hall Lane |
16/1(-60%) | (5) Hall Lane 16/1, Mount Nelson gelding who defied market weakness to make a winning hurdles debut at Wetherby (19.7f) 13 months ago but record patchy thereafter in that sphere. Market may prove a useful guide now chasing on return to action. Mixed fortunes over hurdles last season but very lightly raced and can go well when fresh. |

3rd (2) (4/1 +27%) Prairie Wolf |
4/1(+27%) | (2) Prairie Wolf 4/1, Largely progressive in handicap hurdles last term and he returned with a solid second at Warwick (21f) in October. Not in same form when third at Aintree (24.7f) subsequently but this well-made sort shouldn't be underestimated now his attentions switch to chasing. In good heart over hurdles; leading claims if transferring form to fences at first attempt. |

4th (1) (7/1 -27%) Peejaybee |
7/1(-27%) | (1) Peejaybee 7/1, Successful 3 times at up to 2m4f over hurdles but failed to meet expectations in trio of starts over fences around this time last term. Reappears on the back of a wind op/tongue tie also on and interesting if supported on return to chasing. Well handicapped on 2021-22 hurdle form but struggled last season (chiefly over fences). |

4/1(-78%) | (6) Rocky Lake 4/1, Lightly-raced winning hurdler who has yet to progress from a promising chase debut in this sphere, fourth of 7 in handicap at Kempton (3m) on seasonal bow 32 days ago. Yard continue to go well however and he's a definite player on pick of his form. Not kicked on from last year's promising chase debut but not discounted back down in trip. |

5/1(+29%) | (4) Pearly Island 5/1, Scored twice over hurdles last season, latterly at Fontwell (19.2f) in March. Left the impression he would improve for his return/chase debut experience at Huntingdon (23.6f) 24 days ago and he's eased further in the weights. Could improve for the drop back in trip on this second chase start and he's a possible. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
THE SAME won a maiden hurdle here in March before running with credit on a few occasions at Ffos Las. A point-to-point winner last October, the switch to chasing is likely to see him in a better light and he appears to have plenty in his favour. Pearly Island should appreciate a drop back in trip following his chasing bow at Huntingdon, while Prairie Wolf is capable of a decent showing.
A former Irish point winner, THE SAME made a bright start over hurdles earlier this year, successful at this venue prior to posting a pair of in-the-frame efforts in novice company. Appealing as the type to make his mark in this sphere, he earns the vote to come out on top on return/handicap debut. Prairie Wolf is another of interest now chasing, whilst Rocky Lake is a player on the pick of his chase form.
Having shown promise on all three hurdle starts, point winner THE SAME gets the nod in the hope he will improve now chasing.

33/1(-65%) | (10) Liberty Flame 33/1, First run since leaving Peter Flood when pulled up in handicap hurdle at Carlisle (17.2f, soft) 35 days ago. Has work to do. Third in good-ground Irish maiden in August; pulled up in heavy-ground handicap last month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
IT'S A LOVE THING got off the mark at the third time of asking in this sphere at Sedgefield before following up when switched back to the all-weather at Kempton earlier in the month. The five-year-old now makes his handicap debut over hurdles and is expected to take another step forward. Imaginary Dragon commands respect on his first start for Sandy Thomson, while Coral Blue and Grand Soufle are others for the shortlist.
Not so competitive as the numbers suggest and VOCAL DUKE is fancied to capitalise on a handy-looking mark and go one better than his recent Carlisle second. Very Excellent is feared most on the back of his good Cartmel second ahead of course-scorer Ravenscar and the returning Atlantic Dancer.
After a good run on heavy ground last month, VOCAL DUKE gets the nod in the hope the cheekpieces continue to have a positive effect.

28/1(-12%) | (12) On The Tide 28/1, 8/1, tenth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Cork (16f, soft) 18 days ago. Up in trip with more needed. Promise in maiden hurdles earlier in year; tailed off last 2 runs incl' h'cap debut latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
THE BANGER DOYLE may be able to make use of this mark over timber. The seven-year-old has been mixing it on the Flat and over fences in recent months and has been consistent without getting his head in front. He is on a 22lb lower mark over hurdles than fences so it looks well worth a shot at this now. Dragon's Pass was a course and distance winner three weeks ago and has to be respected despite a 6lb rise for that. Ishan won impressively at Limerick last month but got a 12lb hike for that victory and may want the ground a bit softer than this.
Plenty are in with a shout but THE BANGER DOYLE goes into handicaps off a handy-looking mark so is fancied to gain a first success in this sphere. Ishan is next on the list on the back of his recent Limerick success, with Dragon's Pass, Penny Jar and From The Ashes all in the mix too.
From his lower hurdle mark, THE BANGER DOYLE, looks well treated having progressed plenty over fences since last seen in this sphere

1st (3) (5/1 +50%) Itso Fury |
5/1(+50%) | (3) Itso Fury 5/1, Won his first 2 outings over hurdles and shaped with encouragement sent handicapping on his remaining 3 starts last season, sent off favourite but losing little in defeat when fifth at Haydock (24.3f) in April. However, folded quickly when pulled up on his return last month. His return at Exeter was too quiet for comfort but he retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (13/2 -95%) Call Of The Wild |
13/2(-95%) | (2) Call Of The Wild 13/2, Won sole bumper start and 2 from 4 in novice hurdles during 2021/22. Promising third on handicap/seasonal debut at Ascot (15.7f) in October last year, but disappointing in trio of starts over fences/hurdles thereafter. Goes back up in trip on his reappearance. Backend of last season never went well but ability is respected off this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (9/1 -100%) Killaloan |
9/1(-100%) | (4) Killaloan 9/1, Made a good start to his hurdling career last season, completing a quick-fire hat-trick in Ludlow handicap (15.8f) in March. Pulled up next time, though, and ran poorly on his Flat return last month. Needs to resume his progress upped in trip with cheekpieces applied. Hat-trick last season and could yet prove himself worthy of this mark; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (12/1 -50%) The Turtle Said |
12/1(-50%) | (8) The Turtle Said 12/1, Fair bumper performer who improved sent handicapping up in trip over hurdles, making it back-to-back wins when scoring in good style at Worcester (20f) in August last year. Has a lengthy absence to overcome, but he could still have more to offer. Up significantly in the weights for his two wins but he remains unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (11/10 +60%) Tanganyika |
11/10(+60%) | (6) Tanganyika 11/10, Successful on debut in France and first victory on these shores in a Carlisle handicap (19.3f) in February. Not in the same form next time, though, before failing to stay the longer trip at Market Rasen in May. However, he could bounce back reappearing with his yard in fine form. Handicap winner; remains lightly raced and fitness shouldn't be an issue after his break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (9/1 -6%) Vision Des Flos |
9/1(-6%) | (5) Vision Des Flos 9/1, Successful in handicap chase at Warwick (20f) in September last year and continued in good heart until a poor effort on his final outing last season. However, reverted to hurdling he got back on track when finishing fourth on his last 2 starts. Shortlisted. Hasn't won over hurdles since 2019 and he was a much better horse back then. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (14/1 -75%) Honneur D'ajonc |
14/1(-75%) | (1) Honneur D'ajonc 14/1, Won 4 times over hurdles in 2021/22 and came good at the fifth time of asking over fences in handicap at Hereford (21f) in January. However, failed to complete on his final 2 starts of the campaign, so will need to be revitalised by the return to hurdling after 6 months off. Might well appreciate this return to hurdles and this mark isn't beyond him. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
The Turtle Said was most taking when romping home by 15 lengths at Worcester in August 2022 and the six-year-old warrants respect on his belated return to action. However, it may be worth sticking with the red-hot Venetia Williams yard and their TANGANYIKA. The son of Martaline is only 4lb higher than his last victory and a summer break may have freshened him up. Killaloan and Vision Des Flos are others to note in an open contest.
TANGANYIKA wasn't able to build on his Carlisle success in his 2 subsequent starts in the spring, but he's worth another chance back down in trip as he returns with his yard in excellent form. The 5-y-o is preferred to The Turtle Said, who arrives bidding for a hat-trick albeit after a long absence, while Vision des Flos can give his running once again.
The 6yo ITSO FURY was pulled up on his reappearance at Exeter but the progress he made last season is by no means forgotten.

1st (9) (4/1 +43%) Mixedwave |
4/1(+43%) | (9) Mixedwave 4/1, Front runner who took well to fences last term, winning at Leicester (22.5f) and over C&D. Returned from summer break with a good third in an 18-runner Warwick handicap and he's not discounted receiving plenty of weight in this higher grade. Two wins (including C&D) in February and could improve for recent comeback run at Warwick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (13/2 -30%) Post Chaise |
13/2(-30%) | (8) Post Chaise 13/2, Made a very good start to his chase career when winning back-to-back at Hereford and Huntingdon in January. Attracted support and got back on track when fourth of 8 in handicap chase (5/2) at Sedgefield (26.9f, soft) 32 days ago, so could well go closer with race fitness now on his side. Won twice in January and reappeared with promising fourth; could take a step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (7/4 +13%) Haut Folin |
7/4(+13%) | (2) Haut Folin 7/4, Disappointing after joining this yard from France last year but forged clear to land a gamble from a much-reduced mark in a 9-runner handicap chase at Ffos Las (23.8f, heavy) 11 days ago. The one to beat under a penalty. Won in good style at Ffos Las; tough to beat under 7lb penalty if repeating that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (8/1 +33%) Eclair De Guye |
8/1(+33%) | (5) Eclair De Guye 8/1, Winless for almost 3 years and he was beaten a long way when third of 11 in handicap chase at Chepstow (26.2f, soft, 11/1) on return 23 days ago. Others more persuasive. His losing run continues but he didn't run badly on reappearance and is not discounted. |

|PU| (1) (11/2 -22%) Pachacuti |
11/2(-22%) | (1) Pachacuti 11/2, Off mark over hurdles at Fakenham in February. Not always fluent and flattered by the result when runner-up at Warwick on chase debut (inherited couple of positions due to late exits) on return but he should do better in this sphere. Flattered by his chase debut 2nd at Warwick recently but open to improvement over fences. |

|PU| (6) (16/1 -78%) Roll With It |
16/1(-78%) | (6) Roll With It 16/1, Off mark over hurdles here in July and wasn't beaten far switched to handicap company when fourth of 6 at Southwell (20.4f, good to soft, 5/1) 51 days ago. Not ruled out on chase bow. Lightly raced and could have a part to play if taking to fences at the first attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (18/1 -29%) Big Changes |
18/1(-29%) | (7) Big Changes 18/1, Steadily progressive over fences for Laura Morgan last season, winning 4 times at up to 24.1f. Bettered previous efforts over hurdles when fourth at Huntingdon on yard debut last time and he's respected. Four wins from his nine chase runs; fourth over hurdles on reappearance; could build on it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (25/1 -456%) Henschke |
25/1(-456%) | (4) Henschke 25/1, Won a 21f Ffos Las handicap in January before doubling his tally over fences at Plumpton (25.7f, good to firm) in May. That effort rates as a career best and he's respected returning from 3 lb higher mark. Two wins this year (January/May) and could still have more to offer; on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (28/1 -75%) Aviewtosea |
28/1(-75%) | (3) Aviewtosea 28/1, Patchy form over both hurdles and fences in the summer and produced a lesser effort when tenth of 12 in handicap chase at Ayr (20.5f, good, 17/2) 19 days ago. Has been given a chance by the handicapper but others still preferred. Close third two starts ago but patchy profile this year and well beaten last time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Although HAUT FOLIN appeared to take some time to acclimatise to racing in the UK, Venetia Williams' gelding was quite taking when landing a first success in this country at Ffos Las recently and he should take all the beating under a 7lb penalty. Henschke regained the winning thread at Plumpton in May and the nine-year-old could give the selection most to think about off only 3lb higher, ahead of the in-form Pachacuti, who is unexposed over fences.
HAUT FOLIN looks well in under a penalty after bolting up at Ffos Las earlier in the month and should take plenty of beating if in the same form. Post Chaise is most feared having appeared to just be lacking in match sharpness at Sedgefield on his return, whilst Henschke was in the form of his life in the spring and is another player on return.
Having won with something to spare on his recent reappearance at Ffos Las, HAUT FOLIN (nap) can follow up under a 7lb penalty.

1st (1) (5/4 +50%) Cruz Control |
5/4(+50%) | (1) Cruz Control 5/4, Fairly useful bumper/hurdles winner who made a promising return/chase debut behind a smart prospect at Ffos Las (2m) in October. Failed to build on that back up in trip when fifth at Ascot (18.8f) latest but he's certainly not out of things here. Very respectable fifth at Ascot this month; today's race is easier; likely contender. |

2nd (2) (8/1 -129%) Glory And Honour |
8/1(-129%) | (2) Glory And Honour 8/1, Made a winning start for his new yard in 2m1f handicap chase at Cartmel in August and has held form well in defeat since, good second of 7 in handicap chase at Carlisle (2m) 5 weeks ago. Can give another good account up in trip. Runner-up all three starts since quite stylish win on stable debut; respected. |

3rd (5) (15/8 +25%) Hello Judge |
15/8(+25%) | (5) Hello Judge 15/8, Successful hurdler who has got back on track following a wind op, building on his reappearance third at Hexham when running out a good winner at Carlisle (20f, soft) 4 weeks ago, displaying a determined attitude. Possibilities again from 4 lb higher mark. Battled well for hard-fought Carlisle win last month; 4lb rise ought to be manageable. |

4th (3) (25/1 -233%) Shadows In The Sky |
25/1(-233%) | (3) Shadows In The Sky 25/1, Point winner. Went close in 3m Musselburgh maiden on hurdle debut in January but not in anything like the same form in 3 subsequent outings. Had wind op ahead of return/chase debut and the betting may well prove a useful guide. Not seen since pulled up on handicap hurdle debut in April; others have much less to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/2 -29%) Present Fair |
9/2(-29%) | (4) Present Fair 9/2, Dual point winner who showed ability over hurdles last term and improved on that when third of 6 in handicap at Sedgefield on chase debut 32 days ago. Of interest with progress anticipated. Moves up in grade after promising chase debut at Sedgefield but should have more to offer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A small but fairly open contest, in which a chance can be taken on PRESENT FAIR. Having undergone wind surgery in March, Donald McCain's charge made a pleasing chasing debut at Sedgefield last month, finishing third. He remains on the same mark and looks set to take a step forward, but recent Carlisle winner Hello Judge, Cruz Control and the ultra-consistent Glory And Honour are unlikely to be far away. Shadows In The Sky is worth a market check ahead of his seasonal return.
HELLO JUDGE has showed the benefit of a wind op upon returning this term, building on his Hexham third and showing a determined attitude to boot when landing a 15-runner handicap chase at Carlisle 4 weeks ago. He can go well again from a 4 lb higher mark, with Cruz Control and Present Fair others to consider.
Tom Lacey's CRUZ CONTROL (nap) was just a respectable fifth at Ascot this month but he's sure to appreciate today's ease in grade.

BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY can complete a hat-trick after his impressive win over fences at the track three weeks ago. The Califet gelding looks like a real improver and surprised connections somewhat with the ease of his victory on his chasing debut. They expected the five-year-old to come on a bit from that run and there could be improvement in him. Duke Otto is another bidding for his third win in a row and has to be respected. The Sir Prancealot gelding got up late on to beat Herculaneum here three weeks ago and 3lb worse off with that rival now. Duncarrig, who won despite taking a very wide course at Navan when last seen in mid-September, is another that has to come into calculations.
BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY opened his account in this sphere before following up with an impressive chasing debut here 3 weeks ago, so this progressive 5yo is well worth a chance to complete the hat-trick off an appealing mark. Duke Otto and Herculaneum, who filled the first two positions in a handicap hurdle at the same meeting, should also give a good account once more.
BATTLE OF RIDGEWAY defied a break when winning over fences three weeks ago and he's clearly on an upward curve at present

9/2(+55%) | (4) Pilsdon Pen 9/2, Three-time hurdles winner, the latest at Exeter (16.7f, soft) a year ago. Held form in that sphere after and shaped as if better for the run when a remote third on chase bow at Warwick on return. Triple hurdle winner but he made a low-key start over fences at Warwick two weeks ago. |

2nd (7) (15/2 +38%) Morfee |
15/2(+38%) | (7) Morfee 15/2, Opened his account back over hurdles in at Plumpton in March 2022 and followed up with relative ease at Newton Abbot (26.5f, good) a month later. First run since when well held Wincanton 25 days ago but should strip fitter now. Switches from hurdles to chase. Tailed off on his comeback last month and has something to prove back over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (11/2 +54%) Moytier |
11/2(+54%) | (8) Moytier 11/2, Mixed record over hurdles but took well to chasing despite finding things happening a bit too quickly for him when third of 10 in handicap at Hereford (16f, good) 17 days ago. Return to further will suit and first-time headgear may also help. Promising third on chase debut at Hereford and this step back up in trip looks a good move. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (5/2 +0%) Flagrant Delitiep |
5/2(+0%) | (3) Flagrant Delitiep 5/2, Dual C&D winner who took a step back in the right direction when fourth in handicap at Plumpton on return and built on that when third over C&D 12 days ago. Bold showing is on the cards down in class. Creditable third off a much-reduced mark over C&D last time and he's in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (8/1 -14%) Gingerbred |
8/1(-14%) | (5) Gingerbred 8/1, Confirmed previous promise when winning a handicap hurdle at Exeter (18.5f) in February but a mixed bag after, only fifth of 6 in handicap chase (10/3) at Exeter (19.2f, soft) on debut over fences 30 days ago. Overall record of 1-13 and was only fifth of six on his chase debut at Exeter last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (15/2 -7%) Balko Saint |
15/2(-7%) | (1) Balko Saint 15/2, Dual winner over hurdles and unlucky to bump into a thriving rival when claiming a fourth successive runner-up finish over fences at Newton Abbot (21f, good) in June. Weakened quickly back over hurdles back from 5 months off 25 days ago but should come on for that. Has gone close over C&D and he looks interesting off dangerous mark back over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (16/1 -220%) Haldon Hill |
16/1(-220%) | (2) Haldon Hill 16/1, Thrived this spring, winning at Ffos Las (3m) and Taunton. Found run of good form coming to a halt final start but type to bounce back after 7 months off. Three chase wins last term but this 10yo looks on a tough enough mark again; down the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (6/1 -100%) Tamaris |
6/1(-100%) | (6) Tamaris 6/1, Has taken well to chasing and completed a double in likeable fashion at Fontwell last time. More needed to land the hat-trick off 5 lb higher up in class. Clearcut winner in the last two of his four chase runs; big player again in hat-trick bid. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
TAMARIS has proved a revelation since undergoing a wind procedure in August, as evidenced by his victories at Plumpton and Fontwell in the following months. A 5lb rise for the six-year-old's most recent triumph looks on the generous side and a hat-trick appears a distinct possibility. Flagrant Delitiep returns to the C&D of his last success off a 20lb lower mark and Robert Walford's inmate isn't taken likely, while Moytier appears the type who will improve for first-time cheekpieces.
Dual C&D winner FLAGRANT DELITIEP has made a decent start to the season and looks ready to strike off a career-low mark down in class. Balko Saint should come on for his comeback run over hurdles and is next best ahead of Moytier, who took well to fences when third at Hereford and will be suited by this longer trip.
Joe Tizzard's 6yo TAMARIS (nap) has really got his act together over fences this autumn and can strike again in his hat-trick bid.

DENBURN was an impressive winner when opening his account on debut over C&D in May and a bumper double could be on the cards if running to a similar level on his reappearance. Representatives from the Dan Skelton yard always warrant respect at this level and any market support for newcomer Yhprum's Law would be worth noting. Stay If U Want To wasn't quite up to class 2 standards when finishing eighth at Cheltenham last month, but the four-year-old should prove more competitive here.
Denburn is sure to be popular having made an impressive winning debut over C&D 6 months ago but he must shoulder a penalty, so preference is for YHPRUM'S LAW, who ticks plenty of boxes and represents a yard just starting to kick into top gear. Brave Move and Just One Surf are another couple to note in a race where the betting will no doubt reveal plenty.
He carries a 7lb penalty against some interesting newcomers but DENBURN created a good impression when winning over C&D on his debut.

Failed to justify support when seventh of 14 in bumper (10/3) at Huntingdon (13.7f, good to firm) on NH debut 44 days ago, dropped away well inside final 1f. Over 5l behind Hill Spirit at Huntingdon, but that was still a promising debut. |

7th (6) (100/1 -300%) Simba's Roar |
100/1(-300%) | (6) Simba's Roar 100/1, Oasis Dream gelding. Half-brother to 6f/7f winner Akamu. Dam 11f winner. Well held in bumper (12/1) at Aintree (17f, heavy) on NH debut 12 days ago. Tongue strap on. Well beaten when 12-1 for recent Aintree debut; tongue-tie now added. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HILL SPIRIT (third) was pressed for the lead by Suleiman Artist (seventh) when the pair met on their respective debuts last month. Both will have learnt plenty from that experience but the former, who is related to some useful Flat types, can confirm that form en route to victory. The betting is likely to prove instructive regarding the newcomers, with She's Notjoeking making most appeal on paper.
HILL SPIRIT showed plenty to work on when third at Huntingdon and looks the one to beat in a weak bumper. Suleiman Artist and Mapogo both failed to meet expectations first-time out but are clearly thought capable of better.
It's hard to tell how well HILL SPIRIT will handle these conditions but he made a pleasing debut when third on good ground last month.

WESTPORT COVE weakened quickly and finished tailed off when running too freely in the Champion Bumper at Cheltenham and is a fascinating runner here on his hurdles debut. The Muhtathir has also been keen when scoring on his debut in a Fairyhouse bumper last January and is obviously talented having made the team to go to the festival. He wears a hood now for his jumping bow. Diamboy De Carres has run in a couple of strong maiden hurdles this season already, chasing home the impressive Ile Atlantique at Gowran 12 days ago. He is entitled to play a big part here. Ankud ran well on his debut in a Naas bumper but didn't really back that up on a couple of outings subsequently last season. He could do better over jumps and is another to note.
WESTPORT COVE looked a good prospect when winning his first outing in bumpers and his only subsequent run is easily excused, so he's the most appealing on hurdling debut after 8 months off. Diamboy Des Carres is the danger following a good second in a novice hurdle at Gowran and Summer Melody is likely to return to form back in calmer waters.
Sean Doyle's bumper winner DIAMBOY DES CARRES (nap) has picked up hurdling experience and has the benefit of a valuable 7lb claim.

1st (4) (15/2 -7%) Doyen For Money |
15/2(-7%) | (4) Doyen For Money 15/2, Promising sort who got off the mark fitted with a tongue strap in 11-runner handicap hurdle at Plumpton (20.5f, soft) in April. Disappointing next time but likely to get back on track fresh from 6 months off. Successful handicap debut at Plumpton and failed to give his running next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (50/1 -52%) Chankaya |
50/1(-52%) | (5) Chankaya 50/1, Fair form at best on Flat but yet to achieve the same level over hurdles, only eighth of 17 at Cheptsow recently. Others make more appeal. Modest handicap debut latest but the signs were more encouraging prior to that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (13) (8/1 +43%) Robber's Bridge |
8/1(+43%) | (13) Robber's Bridge 8/1, Has made more impact since sent handicapping this year and wasn't discredited when sixth at Uttoxeter last time. Steps back up in trip with a hood refitted. Can be keen but has been knocking on the door over various trips and ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (3/1 +33%) Ventara |
3/1(+33%) | (8) Ventara 3/1, Boasts a progressive profile and made a positive start to handicapping when second at Chepstow three weeks ago. Step up in trip should bring further improvement out of him, so he boasts leading claims. Improved second on his handicap debut at Chepstow and now raised in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/2 -64%) Jack Sprat |
9/2(-64%) | (2) Jack Sprat 9/2, Represents an in-form yard and got back on the up when landing a 7-runner handicap at Huntingdon with something to spare on return. Could improve again, so makes plenty of appeal. Justified favouritism at Huntingdon (going away) and a 4lb rise should be fine. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (11/1 +8%) Caeruleum |
11/1(+8%) | (6) Caeruleum 11/1, Well held in novice hurdles to date but related to a winner and might step forward if the market speaks in his favour on handicap debut. Well held so far but handicaps could see him in a much better light. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (17/2 -55%) Sami Bear |
17/2(-55%) | (1) Sami Bear 17/2, Scored at Kempton in February and back on track when third there on reappearance. Stable has started firing since and he's likely to be on the premises. Respectable latest effort at Kempton and drops into a lower grade here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (15/2 +25%) Whenitrainsitpours |
15/2(+25%) | (9) Whenitrainsitpours 15/2, Still looking for a first success and well held in handicaps this year. Mark has come down as a result but he's not threatening to capitalise. 0-10 for Milton Harris and going nowhere in handicaps when last seen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (8/1 +43%) Watchoutitscookie |
8/1(+43%) | (12) Watchoutitscookie 8/1, In good form in the spring and should strip fiitter for reappearance at Exeter. Others look better treated, though. Dropped away on his return at Exeter but this would be more his track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (14) (25/1 -56%) Starvidov |
25/1(-56%) | (14) Starvidov 25/1, No real impact in bumpers and it's been a similar story over hurdles so far. Cheekpieces fitted for handicap debut, so not completely dismissed if the market speaks in his favour. Precious little to crow about thus far but cheekpieces are fitted for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (16) (33/1 +34%) Sans Of Gold |
33/1(+34%) | (16) Sans Of Gold 33/1, Unplaced completed start in points and poor form at best over hurdles. Hard to make a case for on reappearance. Has not finished closer than 16l to a winner over hurdles and he's 7lb out of the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (15) (25/1 -456%) Makanao |
25/1(-456%) | (15) Makanao 25/1, Twice-raced maiden. Blinkered for 1st time, fourth of 8 in juvenile hurdle (5/2) at Sedgefield (16.8f, soft) 32 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Not dismissed. Flat winner in France; lightly raced over hurdles and a dark one now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (250/1 -279%) Blue Anchor |
250/1(-279%) | (11) Blue Anchor 250/1, Beaten a long way on debut in a Warwick bumper and not much encouragement over hurdles for former yard. Plenty to prove on stable debut after 7 months off. Poor form in five runs for previous connections and sold on for just £2,000. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Although DOYEN FOR MONEY was ultimately disappointing when finishing seventh at Fontwell in May, the five-year-old appeared too keen on that occasion and, if settling better on his reappearance, he strikes as the type who is still ahead of his mark. Jack Sprat is sure to prove popular after recently opening his account in good fashion at Huntingdon and Jamie Snowden's charge may serve the most resistance to the selection, ahead of fellow in-form rivals Sami Bear and Ventara.
VENTARA is going the right way and promises to be well suited by this step up in trip, so he takes marginal preference over Jack Sprat, who is also on the up. Sami Bear also merits consideration in an open-looking handicap.
David Pipe's ex-French Flat winner MAKANAO could be interesting at the foot of the weights with his 3yo allowance.

Comparatively exposed but he's in good form and could go well again. |

25/1(+11%) | (8) Asian Tide 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 33/1, fifth of 7 in nursery at Lingfield (8f, AW) 16 days ago. Not disgraced in two handicaps but needs to show progress upped further in trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ALFRED returned to winning ways at Newcastle on Sunday when justifying favouritism in good style and the step up in trip on this occasion may bring about further improvement, despite carrying a 6lb penalty. Dr Hackenbush sports a hood for the first time on his nursery debut which is likely to help him progress, while Palazzo Persico (first) and Go Your Own Way (second) were closely matched at Chelmsford earlier this month and the pair are capable of being in the mix again.
ALFRED gained a second career success in good style starting out for this yard at Newcastle 4 days ago and looks capable of defying a penalty. Palazzo Persico and Go Your Own Way finished 1-2 at Chelmsford 12 days ago and rate the main threats.
Preference is for ROCKET WARRIOR, who remains open to further progress. Dr Hackenbush is second choice.

Leading claims with more to come as she goes handicapping. Big step forward at Newcastle last month when she still looked to be learning her craft. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SOUTH KENSINGTON went close to shedding the maiden tag when beaten a nose over C&D on her latest start and the daughter of Blue Point, who is 3lb well-in on this occasion, has been found an excellent opportunity to go one better. Gaiden is entitled to be competitive with her sights now lowered, while Sala Da Ballo and Elegant Appeal can fight it out for the minor honours.
Switched to all-weather and fitted with cheekpieces, ELEGANT APPEAL proved a different proposition when scoring at Newcastle last month and she can follow up on her handicap debut. South Kensington finished third behind Karl Burke's filly at Newcastle and is respected having improved further on her latest outing, with Habrdi also considered.
South Kensington is 3lb well in but ELEGANT APPEAL (nap) beat her easily at Newcastle and can do so again.

PITNEY sets the standard based on his two starts to date, hitting the frame at both Lingfield and Chelmsford, and the son of Mehmas wouldn't need to improve on those efforts to get his head in front here. Sunny Street finished fourth on his first start at Kempton and he is likely to enter the reckoning along with Leveret, who may benefit from stepping up in trip, and newcomer Venerate.
LEVERET should be suited by this extra 1f and is preferred to Pitney and Lady Pagasa, who have also achieved a similar level of form.
This open-looking novice event may go to SUNNY STREET who should build on his Kempton debut effort. bZipster\p is second choice.

ROSA APPLAUSE fared best of those held up off the pace at Newcastle on her racecourse bow three weeks ago and natural progression might be enough to see the daughter of Blue Point come home in front today. Disclosure finished a creditable fourth at the Gosforth Park venue on her first start and looks another potential improver. See You Tonight is related to some useful types and is worth a market check ahead of her debut, though the application of headgear must raise slight concerns.
ROSA APPLAUSE made a bright start for her in-form yard at Newcastle 3 weeks ago and is sure to go close if building on that as expected. Newcomer See You Tonight is very interesting, while Disclosure is also a big player after a promising debut.
In form terms, the very similar types ROSA APPLAUSE (narrowly preferred) and Disclosure tower above the others with experience.

150/1(-355%) | (2) Body Parts 150/1, Once-raced maiden. Seventh of 9 in minor event at Newcastle (5f, 50/1) on debut 13 days ago. Up in trip now but she looks one for handicaps later on. Never landed a blow in 5f event at Newcastle; may do better upped in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (250/1 -150%) Nassau Bay |
250/1(-150%) | (7) Nassau Bay 250/1, Twice-raced maiden. Ninth of 10 in maiden (150/1) at this course (7.2f) 30 days ago, weakening entering final 1f. Can only be watched. Well down the field in both starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (25/1 -56%) Reine Des Coeurs |
25/1(-56%) | (9) Reine Des Coeurs 25/1, Once-raced maiden. Offered something to work on when fifth of 12 in maiden at this course (7.2f, 16/1) on debut 9 days ago. Feasible to think she can build on that here but others make more appeal for win purposes. Faded into fifth over 7f here last week; open to improvement dropped in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (18/1 +28%) Stars Away |
18/1(+28%) | (10) Stars Away 18/1, Appeals on paper and promising start to career when third of 9 in maiden at Southwell (7.1f) on debut in October. Subsequently changed hands for 34,000 gns and likely she can progress. Close third at Southwell on sole run for Andrew Balding; sold 34,000gns since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (200/1 -150%) Angel Of Gold |
200/1(-150%) | (1) Angel Of Gold 200/1, Havana Gold filly. Half-sister to 5f winner A Pint of Bear. Proved easy to back and ultimately finished well held when eighth of 9 in novice event at Southwell (7f) in September. Best watched on the back of that. Achieved nothing over 7f at Southwell but this shorter trip may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (50/1 -213%) Passamezzo |
50/1(-213%) | (8) Passamezzo 50/1, Once-raced maiden. 16/1, sixth of 10 in minor event at Newcastle (6f) on debut 13 days ago, no extra final 100 yds having impressed with how she travelled. Should have more to offer. Signs of ability in 6f AW contest at Newcastle; may improve. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Just a length separated Havana Ball (fourth) and Mrs Morrell (fifth) at Newcastle three weeks ago and both must be of interest today, along with Stars Away, who hit the frame on her racecourse debut last month. However, preference is for newcomer MOONFIRE. Charlie Appleby's charge is a half-sister to two Group/Grade 1 winners so it would come as no surprise were she to be useful herself, and a low draw ought to aid her chance. Reine Des Coeurs is also noted.
MOONFIRE makes plenty of appeal on paper for a leading yard no stranger to success with their debutantes and she could be worth siding with to make a winning start from a handy inside draw. Mrs Morrell was one place behind Havana Ball when they met at Newcastle recently but may be open to the greater improvement, and that pair head up the dangers.
Havana Ball and Mrs Morrell help to set the form standard but the vote goes to well-bred newcomer MOONFIRE.

1st (3) (5/1 +44%) Prydwen |
5/1(+44%) | (3) Prydwen 5/1, Course winner. 14/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, respectable eighth of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 12 days ago, not ideally placed. Considered. Ties in with Chillingham on latest effort; ran well on sole 1m6f start; not dismissed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 -14%) Chillingham |
4/1(-14%) | (2) Chillingham 4/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time, ninth of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f, 6/1) 12 days ago, unsuited by way race developed. Not taken lightly. Ran respectably at Royal Ascot on sole 1m6f attempt; interesting back up in distance. |

3rd (9) (25/1 -108%) Zealandia |
25/1(-108%) | (9) Zealandia 25/1, Latest win at Goodwood in August. 15/2, fifth of 9 in handicap at Chester (18.6f, heavy) 54 days ago, unsuited by emphasis on stamina. Back down in trip and not ruled out on his tapeta debut. Ready winner at Goodwood (sole 1m6f start) in August; unexposed at this distance. |

4th (6) (28/1 -100%) Oneforthegutter |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (16/5 +29%) Nolton Cross |
16/5(+29%) | (7) Nolton Cross 16/5, Course winner. 3 wins from 11 runs this year. 18/1, badly hampered under 3f out when fifth of 14 in handicap at Haydock (14f, good to firm) 75 days ago. Weighted to go well off a 2 lb lower mark. Has form figures of 124121 at Wolverhampton; interesting back here off last winning mark. |

6th (10) (9/2 +63%) Rhythmic Intent |
9/2(+63%) | (10) Rhythmic Intent 9/2, Twelve runs since last win in 2021. 11/1, fifth of 7 in handicap at Doncaster (14.5f, good to soft) 69 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Others more persuasive. Raced mainly on turf and losing spell goes back over two years; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (11/2 +8%) Capital Theory |
11/2(+8%) | (8) Capital Theory 11/2, Course winner. 9/2, creditable third of 14 in handicap at Kempton (12f) 8 days ago, well positioned. Can give a good account. Placed twice at Kempton this month, maintaining his consistent AW record; new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (66/1 -136%) Inuit |
66/1(-136%) | (1) Inuit 66/1, First run since leaving Joseph Patrick O'Brien when last of 8 in handicap at Kempton (16f, 18/1) 15 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Chance if rediscovering old form. Unlikely to defy top weight, having failed to figure at Kempton on debut for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (16/1 -88%) Barenboim |
16/1(-88%) | (4) Barenboim 16/1, Only fifth of 7 in handicap (14/1) at Chelmsford City (10f) 14 days ago. Significantly back up in trip. Needs a couple of these to falter. Progressive last winter; encouraging return to action two weeks ago; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (11/1 -144%) Sonnerie Power |
11/1(-144%) | (11) Sonnerie Power 11/1, Career best when cosily winning 12-runner handicap (4/1) at Kempton (12f) 36 days ago on final run for Roger Varian. Up 5 lb but he merits serious consideration now stepping up in trip. Won at Kempton last month on final run for Roger Varian; has joined shrewd new connections. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
An open contest for the feature, in which only a tentative vote can go to RHYTHMIC INTENT. Stuart Williams' charge has been running to a consistent level on the turf in recent starts, but he is completely unexposed on the all-weather and could take advantage of a gradually declining mark. Sonnerie Power was on target for the Roger Varian team last month and he merits respect, despite being raised 5lb, now in the care of Michael Appleby. Prydwen and Capital Theory are also noted.
A few with chances but SONNERIE POWER ended his time with Roger Varian when a stylish Kempton scorer and can defy a 5 lb weights rise with this longer trip also a likely plus for this son of Almanzor. Nolton Cross has slipped to a good mark and wasn't seen to best effect when fifth at Haydock last time so rates the main danger ahead of Chillingham and Zealandia.
Returned to AW, NOLTON CROSS holds very strong claims. Chillingham is feared most ahead of Sonnerie Power.

12/1(-9%) | (2) Rock Opera 12/1, 8/1, sixth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 13 days ago. Sliding in the weights without threatening to capitalise. Sole win was in a maiden and has been well below form in last three runs; others preferred. |

2nd (3) (11/4 +21%) Musical Mystery |
11/4(+21%) | (3) Musical Mystery 11/4, C&D winner. 3 wins from 7 runs this year. 13/8, career best when winning 6-runner handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 16 days ago, kept up to work. Strong claims again. 3-4 for current yard and all those wins have been on AW; respected back in trip. |

20/1(+20%) | (9) A Pint Of Bear 20/1, Eighth of 11 in handicap (11/1) at this C&D 5 days ago. Has work to do. 5yo who is not easy to predict and has a record of 1-15 in handicaps; down the list. |

4th (6) (4/1 +71%) Beauty Choice |
4/1(+71%) | (6) Beauty Choice 4/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Pontefract in October. Seventh of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 5/1) 13 days ago, left poorly placed. Has fallen to a workable mark. Well held last twice but he's not handicapped out of things if he can get back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (12/1 -20%) Thaki |
12/1(-20%) | (8) Thaki 12/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Ayr in August. 40/1, good second of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 8 days ago, not ideally placed. Likely to remain competitive. Went close at Newcastle last week and is a big player if he can repeat that form. |

50/1(-25%) | (7) Caesars Pearl 50/1, Winner at Pontefract in June. Seventh of 8 in handicap at this C&D (25/1) 28 days ago. Not easy to make a case for. Won at Pontefract in June but she's been disappointing since; others preferred. |

18/1(-13%) | (5) Absolutelyflawless 18/1, C&D winner. 12/1, ninth of 12 in handicap at this C&D 21 days ago. Needs to bounce back. On dangerous mark on this drop back in grade but she needs to rediscover her spark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (12/1 +14%) Kitaab |
12/1(+14%) | (11) Kitaab 12/1, 11/2, bit below form fifth of 10 in handicap at Thirsk (7f, soft), slowly away. Off 156 days. Makes tapeta debut. Tongue strap back on. 0-9 but he was placed over 6f on penultimate run and is not ruled out back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (3/1 -20%) Ecclesiastical |
3/1(-20%) | (1) Ecclesiastical 3/1, 4 wins from 17 runs this year. Improved on recent efforts to win 12-runner handicap (3/1) at this C&D 17 days ago by 2¼ lengths from Cooperation, comfortably. Worth a chance to follow up. Won over C&D latest and he was as good as ever with that clearcut success; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (20/1 +0%) Mccauley's Tavern |
20/1(+0%) | (10) Mccauley's Tavern 20/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time, seventh of 11 in handicap (10/1) at Newbury (6f, good to firm). Off 133 days. Makes tapeta debut. Worth a market check. Has had wind op but he's still a maiden after 13 runs and this looks tough from wide draw. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (28/1 -12%) Moai |
28/1(-12%) | (12) Moai 28/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2021. Tongue strap on for 1st time, fifth of 6 in handicap at Haydock (8f, good to soft, 4/1), doing too much too soon. Off 125 days. Down in trip. Has struggled for current yard and has plenty to prove on this drop to 6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (4) (16/1 -60%) Cooperation |
16/1(-60%) | (4) Cooperation 16/1, Back on track when 2¼ lengths second of 12 to Ecclesiastical in handicap (10/1) at this C&D 17 days ago. Unexposed for current yard and should be on the premises again. Perked up with a second behind Ecclesiastical over C&D last time; dangerous off same mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Ecclesiastical (winner) and Cooperation (second) are closely matched based on their encounter over this course and distance 17 days ago but with a 6lb pull at the weights, the latter might be able to turn the form around if he can overcome a wide draw. However, MUSICAL MYSTERY has done little but nothing since joining Ed Dunlop's stable and, having backed up last month's C&D success with a win over 7f at Chelmsford 16 days ago, a 3lb higher mark might not be enough to put a stop to his winning spree.
ECCLESIASTICAL and Musical Mystery both produced career-best efforts to score last time but the former had a bit more in hand, so he takes marginal preference in a competitive race for the grade. Thaki is also worthy of respect.
This is a tight call between Ecclesiastical and MUSICAL MYSTERY, but the latter gets the vote in his hat-trick bid.

1st (2) (13/8 +41%) Clearpoint |
13/8(+41%) | (2) Clearpoint 13/8, Latest win at Kempton in October. 8/1, poorly drawn when eighth of 12 in handicap there (6f) 15 days ago. Can give a good account. Overcame wide draw last month but couldn't repeat it latest; feasibly treated back at 5f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/1 -33%) Lord Riddiford |
4/1(-33%) | (1) Lord Riddiford 4/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Goodwood in August. Respectable third of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (5f, 25/1) 13 days ago. Leading player. Impressive at Goodwood in the summer; solid 3rd at Newcastle last time; in the mix again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (13/2 +46%) One Night Stand |
13/2(+46%) | (7) One Night Stand 13/2, Course winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 18/1, creditable sixth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 8 days ago, despite being left poorly placed. This is tougher. Down to a dangerous mark but he needs to raise his game and he's eligible for weaker races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (6/1 +8%) Ancient Times |
6/1(+8%) | (3) Ancient Times 6/1, Ran well when close third at Chester in June but hasn't been in same form last 2 outings. Off 92 days. Tongue strap back on. Down to interesting mark if able to bounce back. Extremely well treated if the return of the tongue-tie piques his interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (12/1 -33%) Dynamic Force |
12/1(-33%) | (5) Dynamic Force 12/1, Won 3 times for yard prior to a spell in the UAE. Little show in recent 2 outings back on these shores and has bit to prove at present. Struggled in Bahrain over the winter; yet to sparkle in two runs back with this yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (8/1 -33%) Nelson Gay |
8/1(-33%) | (6) Nelson Gay 8/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in September. 4/1, below form when seventh of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 16 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Respected on return to Wolverhampton. Two Tapeta wins for Michael Dods this year but in Class 5 company; others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (9/1 -125%) Never Dark |
9/1(-125%) | (4) Never Dark 9/1, C&D winner. 3 wins from 9 runs this year. Latest win at Haydock in September. 9/1, last of 9 in handicap at Catterick (5f, heavy) 33 days ago. Needs to bounce back. 2-2 over C&D; in good form this summer and returns to AW on a handy mark; considered. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Lord Riddiford is showing no signs of losing his enthusiasm and can go well again if he doesn't fluff the start, while Never Dark is a previous C&D winner and cannot be ruled out in a field of this size. However, DYNAMIC FORCE is still of low mileage and, having been cut some slack by the handicapper since he returned to these shores after a spell in Bahrain, he rates as the most appealing option from 8lb below his last winning mark (turf). Nelson Gay also enters calculations.
LORD RIDDIFORD makes most appeal in a contest where the majority have at least something to prove, John Quinn's grey having posted a solid effort on his return to AW at Newcastle earlier in the month. Clearpoint wasn't seen to best effect when attempting to follow up his Kempton win last time, so isn't discounted, whilst Nelson Gay has to bounce back from a couple of underwhelming efforts but scored over C&D in September.
Ancient Times is of interest with the tongue-tie back on but NEVER DARK is preferred in his bid to make it 3-3 over C&D

1st (7) (7/2 +42%) Bohemian Breeze |
7/2(+42%) | (7) Bohemian Breeze 7/2, Latest win at Kempton in October. Seventh of 11 in handicap (5/1) back at that venue (12f) 22 days ago, weakening over 1f out. Mark demands that little bit more. Won two of his last four starts; can bounce back from a modest run at Kempton latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (7/2 +13%) Way Of Life |
7/2(+13%) | (1) Way Of Life 7/2, C&D winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 11/2, good third of 11 in handicap at this C&D 17 days ago, challenging over 1f out and keeping on. Entitled to go well again from same mark. Not won this year but string of good efforts, including C&D; should be bang there again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (40/1 -100%) Sun Tracker |
40/1(-100%) | (2) Sun Tracker 40/1, Well-related sort who landed 6-runner French maiden (12.9f) last summer and best effort yet when fourth of 8 in minor event at Le Lion-d'Angers (11.4f) in August of last year. Changed hands for 62,000 gns/gelded after and market should prove useful on handicap debut. 1m5f winner in France last summer; sold 62,000gns last August; market to guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (10/1 +50%) Sid's Annie |
10/1(+50%) | (5) Sid's Annie 10/1, Has her quirks but she's well capable when in the mood, winning for the fourth time this year at Newmarket (12f) in August. Recent efforts not all that inspiring, beaten a long way even allowing for the strength of opposition back at that venue in October. Four wins this year & neither trip nor track are an issue; perhaps too high in the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (4/1 -14%) Sanction |
4/1(-14%) | (8) Sanction 4/1, 2 wins from 6 runs this year. Latest win at Catterick in September. 15/8, fourth of 6 in handicap at Nottingham (14f, heavy) 43 days ago, dropping away approaching final 1f. Better showing anticipated dropped back in trip on AW debut. Failed in hat-trick bid latest but returning to 1m4f can help; needs serious consideration. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (11/2 -57%) Noble Anthem |
11/2(-57%) | (3) Noble Anthem 11/2, Dual winner as a 3-y-o who has made a positive start for new yard, runner-up over hurdles at Kelso (16.2f) prior to a good third back on the level at Newcastle (12.5f) last week. On a handy mark if he can build on that here. Close third off this mark at Newcastle last week; dangerous with a repeat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (12/1 -9%) Abu Royal |
12/1(-9%) | (6) Abu Royal 12/1, Confirmed previous promise when opening account at the third attempt in an Ayr maiden (1m) in May. Shade underwhelming in 2 handicap starts thereafter and since switched yards for 23,000 gns in July. Longer trip here may help. 1m winner for Charlie Johnston; sold 23,000gns in July; stamina to prove on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (9/2 +36%) Daheer |
9/2(+36%) | (4) Daheer 9/2, 5-time course winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 25/1, creditable fifth of 9 in handicap at this C&D 45 days ago. Should give another good account. Five wins over 9.5f here; just about stays 1m4f but others appeal more for win purposes. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SANCTION appeals at the weights and, with the return to this trip very much in her favour, the Edward Bethell-trained filly looks open to further progression. Way Of Life is more wily than some and, having been placed over this C&D the last twice, rates as another strong candidate despite the burden of top-weight. Noble Anthem has shown promise in both starts for his current yard and is also notable off 6lb lower than his last winning mark (turf).
NOBLE ANTHEM hasn't always been one to hold it together but he confirmed the positives of his yard debut over hurdles with a good third in this sphere at Newcastle last week and he could just be worth siding with to confirm himself on a handy mark. 3-y-o filly Sanction back down in trip on AW debut is another high on the shortlist, with Daheer and Way of Life also expected to be in the mix.
Sanction is feared back in distance but WAY OF LIFE has been threatening around here and he can give the weight away.
Ths is the racecard key.

This is the 16:15 Kempton race from the video above backed at 28/1 earlier in the day.
Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
