Perovskia |
(8) (11/1 -38%)11/1(-38%) | (8) Perovskia 11/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Ninth of 10 in minor event at Southwell (7.1f, 20/1). Off 8 months ahead of this handicap debut but she's open to improvement off this lowly opening mark and it'll be interesting to see what the market has to say. Unexposed filly who looks a possible improver up in trip on handicap debut; market useful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Charlatan |
(5) (12/1 -20%)12/1(-20%) | (5) Charlatan 12/1, Three wins from 6 runs this year, the latest at Wolverhampton in February. Eleventh of 13 in handicap (9/1) at this C&D (good to firm) 34 days ago. Evidence suggests that he's more of a force on the AW. 3-5 on AW but has poor RPRs on turf and was beaten 8l over C&D last time; opposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (9) (40/1 -186%) Anif |
40/1(-186%) | (9) Anif 40/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2023. 7/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) 24 days ago. Others more persuasive from a win point of view. Down the field on AW in last 11 runs and last turf win was in 2019; opposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (5/1 +17%) Kodebreaker |
5/1(+17%) | (10) Kodebreaker 5/1, Twenty-nine runs since last win in 2023. Bit below form fifth of 10 in handicap at Ripon (8f, good to firm, 9/2) 8 days ago. Modest strike rate but he's a live each-way candidate with Silvestre De Sousa booked. Plenty of good runs in 2024 but he's not easy to win with and was well held on turf latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (7/1 +56%) Realised |
7/1(+56%) | (1) Realised 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 13/2, last of 11 in handicap at Nottingham (8.3f, good) 17 days ago. Hopes pinned on the addition of blinkers triggering some improvement. Well held in all five starts and she needs a transformation with blinkers added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (33/1 -136%) Bo Taifan |
33/1(-136%) | (3) Bo Taifan 33/1, Respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f, 9/1) 4 days ago, missing break. Opposable back on turf (well held sole previous run on grass). No show after slow starts on AW recently and he still has something to prove on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/2 -13%) Meng Tian |
9/2(-13%) | (4) Meng Tian 9/2, Won 10-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 6/1) 53 days ago. 2 lb nudge fair enough and commands respect back on turf with Oisin Murphy taking over. Ended his losing run when scoring at Wolverhampton; only up 2lb and he's respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (5/1 +58%) Handel |
5/1(+58%) | (6) Handel 5/1, C&D winner. One win from 33 Flat runs. Twelve runs since last win in 2023. 28/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at Chelmsford City (8f) 25 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. His win came over C&D last summer but he's now 1-33 and is hard to predict. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (4/1 +33%) Alibaba |
4/1(+33%) | (7) Alibaba 4/1, C&D winner. Twenty runs since last win in 2020. 9/2, creditable second of 12 in handicap at this C&D (good to firm) 44 days ago, having run of race. Reproduction of that effort would put him firmly in the picture. C&D winner who was a front-running second here last month; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (7/2 -27%) Tonal |
7/2(-27%) | (2) Tonal 7/2, Winner at Wolverhampton in February. 2/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, good second of 10 in handicap at Chelmsford (7f) 4 days ago, no match for winner. Bound to be popular on the back of that with William Buick aboard but he has failed to fire all 3 previous starts on turf. Good second at Chelmsford last time and is a big player if he can match that back on turf. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (150/1 -50%) Streetstorm |
150/1(-50%) | (11) Streetstorm 150/1, Remains a maiden after 19 Flat runs. Hooded for 1st time, last of 11 in handicap at this C&D (soft, 125/1) 5 days ago. Readily passed over. 19-race maiden who has struggled in her five runs this year and can only be watched. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Meng Tian finally took advantage of a slide in the ratings when scoring at Wolverhampton and could go well again, while Alibaba returned to the turf with a second over track and trip last month and is another to consider. TONAL also found one too good when favourite at Chelmsford last week but he gets another chance here with William Buick taking over the reins. Perovskia has plenty of scope handicapping for the first time and is worth a second glance.
MENG TIAN delivered a telling late challenge at Wolverhampton last time and, given that he came from so far back, he probably won with more in hand than the margin of victory would suggest. As such, a 2 lb rise is easy to swallow and he is taken to provide the in-form Oisin Murphy with another winner. Kodebreaker is next on the list ahead of handicap debutante Perovskia and Alibaba, who was a solid second over C&D last time. Tonal has a bit to prove back on turf.
Preference is for C&D winner ALIBABA, who was a close second off a reduced mark here last month. Tonal is feared most.

1st (5) (11/8 +50%) El Burhan |
11/8(+50%) | (5) El Burhan 11/8, Promising individual. Fourth of 8 in minor event (15/2) at Newmarket (6f, good to firm) on debut 8 days ago, not knocked about. Should improve with that run under his belt and he's a key player. Signs of inexperience on 6f debut at Newmarket; should improve for the run and 7f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (10/3 -122%) Attack |
10/3(-122%) | (1) Attack 10/3, Foaled April 9. €460,000 yearling, Wootton Bassett colt. Dam, 2-y-o 6f-1m (Prix Marcel Boussac/Balanchine Stakes) winner, half-sister to smart multiple 6f winner Polybius. Obvious appeal on paper for his top yard and confidence behind him in the betting would look significant. 460,000euros yearling; dam won French Group 1 as 2yo; likely type for top yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (28/1 -133%) Big Cyril |
28/1(-133%) | (2) Big Cyril 28/1, Foaled February 16. 120,000 gns foal, €125,000 yearling, No Nay Never colt. Brother to 6f winner Monet Never and half-brother to useful 1¼m-1½m winner Chillingham and 1m/9f winner Mahthouf. One to note in the betting. 125,000euros yearling; yard's two juvenile winners in 2024 both showed promise on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (16/1 -14%) Pivotal Days |
16/1(-14%) | (8) Pivotal Days 16/1, Once-raced maiden. 20/1, ninth of 10 in minor event at Ascot (5f, good to firm) on debut 16 days ago. Significantly up in trip and will need to leave that well behind if he's to emerge on top here. 20-1, achieved little on form when ninth of ten on 5f debut at Ascot; 7f more suitable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (13/2 +35%) Bretton Wood |
13/2(+35%) | (3) Bretton Wood 13/2, Twice-raced maiden. Fifth of 9 in maiden (17/2) at Chester (6.1f, good) 18 days ago. Each-way chance. Has run to similar level over 5f and 6f; looks sure to do better upped to 7f; thereabouts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (18/1 -125%) Dr T H G |
18/1(-125%) | (4) Dr T H G 18/1, Foaled March 7. 115,000 gns yearling, Sottsass colt. Half-brother to several winners, including useful 6f-1m winner Furrion and 1¼m winner Open The Red. Dam 1½m winner. Interesting to see what the market has to say. 115,000gns yearling; useful pedigree but likely to need further; should improve for run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (150/1 -200%) Lazieelunch |
150/1(-200%) | (6) Lazieelunch 150/1, Once-raced maiden. 33/1, last of 12 in minor event at Newmarket (6f, good) on debut 10 days ago, slowly away. Hard to warm to. 33-1 and never sighted after a bump at the start on Newmarket debut (6f, good). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (6/1 -9%) Van Aert |
6/1(-9%) | (9) Van Aert 6/1, Foaled March 27. 36,000 gns foal, 130,000 gns 2-y-o, Masar colt. Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. Yard can ready a newcomer and he needs close attention in the betting. 130,000gns 2yo; yard won this with a beginner (10-1) last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (80/1 -142%) Mr Ubiquitous |
80/1(-142%) | (7) Mr Ubiquitous 80/1, Foaled January 20. 6,500 gns foal, €15,000 yearling, Massaat colt. Half-brother to 3 winners, including 2-y-o 5f winner Pretty Vacant and 9f winner Silver Ranger. Dam maiden (stayed 6f). Entitled to come on for the run. 15,000euros yearling; speedy siblings and may be best watched starting out at 7f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
El Burhan makes most appeal of those with racecourse experience having debuted at Newmarket earlier this month. Archie Watson won this last year with a newcomer, so Van Aert should be noted along with Dr T H G, a half-brother to four winners. However, ATTACK cost 460,000 euros as the first foal out of a Group 1 winner and it would be no surprise if he proved good enough at the first time of asking.
EL BURHAN shaped well under a considerate ride when fourth on his recent debut at Newmarket and he is taken to put that experience to good use here. Newcomer Attack looks the part on paper and is clear second choice ahead of another likely-looking debutant in Van Aert. Big Cyril and Dr T H G also make some appeal on paper and Bretton Wood has shown ability in his two starts and should pick up a race before long.
Attack is a choice-looking newcomer for the Gosdens but the experience of EL BURHAN swings the vote the latter's way.

Miss Gitana |
(4) (2/1 -23%)2/1(-23%) | (4) Miss Gitana 2/1, Promising sort who has upped her game since switched to longer trips this season, latest when narrow second of 9 in handicap at Beverley (12.1f, good to firm) 13 days ago. Likely more to come yet. Improved for the longer trips this season; up 2lb but likely there's better to come.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (6) (11/8 +50%) My Noble Lord |
11/8(+50%) | (6) My Noble Lord 11/8, Lightly-raced gelding who returned from 5 months off/gelded with a ready win on handicap debut at Wolverhampton (12.2f) last month. Couldn't land a blow over longer trip at Wetherby latest but better expected here. Won on handicap debut; soft ground over the longer trip was probably against him latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (18/1 -13%) Livinthelife |
18/1(-13%) | (5) Livinthelife 18/1, Winner at Wolverhampton in January. Sixth of 8 in handicap (20/1) at Doncaster (10.2f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. Made a winning handicap debut in January; below that level since and has a bit to prove.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (4/1 +27%) All Greek To Me |
4/1(+27%) | (1) All Greek To Me 4/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 66/1, ninth of 11 in minor event at Nottingham (10.2f, good) 17 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Likely to improve. Ulysses gelding who's shown promise; likely to improve on handicap debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (7/1 +50%) Nancy P |
7/1(+50%) | (8) Nancy P 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Third of 4 in handicap at Lingfield (10f, AW, 22/1) 53 days ago. Others look better treated. Needs to improve for the step up in distance; others appeal more.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (5/2 +25%) Rogue King |
5/2(+25%) | (3) Rogue King 5/2, Lightly-raced maiden who showed improved form, in first-time cheekpieces, when close third of 9 in handicap at Beverley (12.1f, good to firm, 17/2) 13 days ago, running on. 2 lb rise fair and is one for shortlist. Improved for step up to 1m4f at Beverley this month; respected off 2lb higher.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
There was very little between Miss Gitana and Rogue King when they filled the places at Beverley last time and that pair are hard to separate. Wolverhampton winner MY NOBLE LORD failed to land the odds when upped to 1m6f at Wetherby last month, but it's too soon to write off Michael Bell's charge and he gets another chance dropping back down in distance.
MISS GITANA is going the right way and was only narrowly denied at Beverley earlier this month. She can open her account. Rogue King acquitted himself well in the same contest and rates the chief threat, whilst My Noble Lord also warrants respect.
Prescott-trained MISS GITANA can gain her first win after this month's fine second at Beverley. Rogue King can give her most to do.

15/8(-15%) | (1) Theory Of Tides 15/8, 500,000 gns Galileo colt. Dam, Australian 5f-6f (Group 3) winner, sister to smart Australian sprinter winner Passive Aggressive. 13/2, won 11-runner event at Nottingham (10.2f, good) on debut 17 days ago, green but scoring cosily. Useful prospect open to significant progress. Led close home on Nottingham debut and he's respected under penalty over this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (13/2 -30%) Steel Tiger |
13/2(-30%) | (8) Steel Tiger 13/2, €110,000 half-brother to French 8.5f winner Murciano, from the family of Nunthorpe Stakes winner Margot Did. Green when second of 6 at this C&D (good to soft, 9/2) on debut 23 days ago. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Should have more to offer. Promising second behind odds-on rival over C&D last month; in the mix with headgear added. |

3rd (6) (5/1 +33%) Liam Swagger |
5/1(+33%) | (6) Liam Swagger 5/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Third of 8 in maiden at Chester (10.3f, good, 12/1) 19 days ago. Surely has races in him. Clear promise in all three runs this spring and he's respected at this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/1 -17%) Act In Line |
7/1(-17%) | (2) Act In Line 7/1, Half-brother to useful 1m winners Wishfully and Sense of Wisdom. 7/1, 5 lengths seventh of 11 to Theory of Tides at Nottingham (10.2f, good) on debut 17 days ago, green and not knocked about. Likely to improve. Well held behind Theory Of Tides on his Nottingham debut and he needs major improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (5/1 +50%) Tactician |
5/1(+50%) | (9) Tactician 5/1, Promising sort. Fifth of 11 in maiden at Newbury (10f, good, 14/1) on debut 10 days ago. Bred to stay well and will improve. Some ability at Newbury but he needs a big step forward over this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (4/1 -45%) Clockmaker |
4/1(-45%) | (3) Clockmaker 4/1, Promising type. Second of 10 to a good one in Newbury maiden (11f, good, 10/1) on debut 37 days ago. Beat the rest easily enough and sure to progress. Leading claims. Clear second on his Newbury debut and sets a good standard on that form; leading claims. |

7th (10) (250/1 -150%) Barafundle Bay |
250/1(-150%) | (10) Barafundle Bay 250/1, Twice-raced maiden. 250/1, fourteenth of 15 at Newmarket (8f, good) 10 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Has shown little at massive prices in her two runs this month. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (200/1 -100%) Leon Trotsky |
200/1(-100%) | (5) Leon Trotsky 200/1, Twice-raced maiden. 200/1, fifth of 8 in minor event at Chelmsford City (10f) 25 days ago. Tailed off at massive prices in 1m2f novice events here and at Chelmsford this spring. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CLOCKMAKER posted an encouraging effort on his racecourse bow when runner-up to the subsequent Chester Vase winner Hidden Law. David Simcock's gelding was comfortably clear of the rest that day and can give a respectful nod to his ill-fated conquerer with a win here. Theory Of Tides has a penalty for his Nottingham success, so Steel Tiger, second over C&D on debut, is feared more with cheekpieces added.
This has the look of a useful novice and THEORY OF TIDES is taken to remain unbeaten. He was green but won cosily on debut at Nottingham recently and is open to significant progress. Clockmaker made a very bright start at Newbury and will be winning before long. Liam Swagger, Steel Tiger and Tactician all demand respect too.
Several have claims but top of the list is CLOCKMAKER, who chased home a subsequent Group 3 winner on his Newbury debut last month.

7/1(-56%) | (9) Rhythmic Acclaim 7/1, 6/1, won 8-runner handicap at this C&D (good to firm) 44 days ago, running on. More needed up 5 lb but she's one to consider all the same. Off the mark at 14th attempt when scoring over C&D last month; up 5lb but she's respected. |

9/1(+55%) | (10) Kessaar Power 9/1, C&D winner. Nineteen runs since last win in 2023. Fifth of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford City (6f, 9/1) 4 days ago. Looks vulnerable. On dangerous mark but losing run is up to 19 and he's been well held in last eight runs. |

4th (5) (12/1 -9%) Kandy King |

17/2(+6%) | (1) Parisiac 17/2, Ninth of 14 in handicap (16/1) at Doncaster (6f, soft) 64 days ago. Others more persuasive on this occasion. Needs to revive but this is a big drop back in grade and his last win was off this mark. |

40/1(-82%) | (11) Global Effort 40/1, Remains a maiden after 18 Flat runs. Last of 10 in handicap (16/1) at Chelmsford City (7f) 4 days ago. Likely to come up short once more. Inconsistent 18-race maiden who failed to beat a rival at Chelmsford last Thursday. |

Solid claims off the same mark back on turf. Won in good style on AW latest and he looks interesting off same mark back on turf. |

40/1(-233%) | (8) Lewis Barnes 40/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 8 in handicap (25/1) at Wolverhampton (6.1f). Off 101 days. First run for yard after leaving John Butler. Tongue strap on 1st time. Plenty to find on form. Has mixed record in five starts; been gelded and tongue-tie is added on stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A short-head second over C&D on his seasonal debut in a race that has been well advertised by the third winning a valuable race at Ascot since, HOVER ON THE WIND is hard to oppose, especially as he went one better with an all-the-way romp back here 23 days ago. It will take a good one to stop him following up, despite a 6lb higher mark. Rhythmic Acclaim and Watermelon Sugar appear to be the two most capable of spoiling the party.
HOVER ON THE WIND finally got the job done when making every post a winning one over this C&D last time and, on that evidence, a 6 lb rise is unlikely to be enough to prevent him from going in again. Fellow last-time-out scorer Watermelon Sugar could be the one to follow the selection home, ahead of Rhythmic Acclaim.
The vote goes to HOVER ON THE WIND (nap), who won by 4l over C&D last time and is not weighted out of it despite going back up 6lb.

2/1(+82%) | (3) Aquacell 2/1, Churchill filly who looked a good prospect as she overcame inexperience to cosily make a winning debut in 5-runner 7f maiden at Chelmsford. Struggled in novice at Ascot (8f, good, 25/1) 26 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Unexposed filly who looks on a fair opening mark and is respected on her handicap debut. |

15/2(+46%) | (1) Nazalan 15/2, 20/1, fourth of 6 in handicap at Kempton (7f) on return 61 days ago. Something to find on form. Well-held fourth in both his handicaps and needs to find more on this drop in grade. |

4th (6) (11/4 +83%) Shakeela |
11/4(+83%) | (6) Shakeela 11/4, Won at Southwell (7f) in October. Sixth of 9 in handicap (17/2) at Southwell (8.1f) on return 29 days ago. More needed. Still unexposed but she needs to kick on again on this drop back in trip. |

5th (10) (9/2 +72%) Auric |
9/2(+72%) | (10) Auric 9/2, Winner at Kempton in April. 11/1, ninth of 14 in handicap at Chester (6.1f, good) 19 days ago. Still unexposed but was laboured at Chester last time and has bit to prove after that. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Lingfield maiden scorer RASCAL RECKNELL was heading in the right direction when last seen in February and he could take some stopping if picking up where he left off. The Wootton Bassett colt enters handicaps off what looks a fair opening mark and he may have enough in hand to fend off fellow last-time-out winner Mister Mojito. Despite a rise in class, Terry Kent's three-year-old likely has more to offer, while War Bride and Jungle Mac aren't easily dismissed.
MRS MORRELL will be suited by this extra furlong now switched to turf and can come out on top. North View caught the eye at Ascot and is a player in first-time cheekpieces. C&D winner Mister Mojito and Jungle Mac are respected also.
An open race in which handiap newcomer RASCAL RECKNELL gets the vote ahead of last month's C&D winner Mister Mojito.

28/1(-100%) | (5) Raven's Applause 28/1, Winner at Windsor a year ago. Off 7 months. Might need this. Struggled in final three runs last season and has something to prove after 222 days off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Dion Baker capitalised on a career-low mark when digging deep to score at Brighton recently and another bold bid is forecast. However, the combination of a 5lb penalty and a quick turnaround could leave the five-year-old vulnerable. With that in mind, it could be worth taking a chance on SIR OLIVER, who has tasted success over C&D in the past and is reverting to turf off a reduced rating. An improved bid from Resonance in a first-time visor is also plausible.
BEYLERBEYI went close over 1m here last month and could be the way to go with William Buick up. Market support for the returning Windsor Pass would be interesting, while Brighton-winner Dion Baker and Sir Oliver are respected also.
The vote goes to DION BAKER, who beat a clear second at Brighton last week and is a big player if he can repeat that form.
Ths is the racecard key.
