1st (1) (5/2 -11%) In This World |
5/2(-11%) | (1) In This World 5/2, Flat/hurdles winner in 2021 and immediately improved for the switch to fences in recent weeks, runner-up on all 3 starts. Very likely to be on the premises again. Flat and hurdle winner who has form figures of 222 over fences; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (28/1 +15%) Calgary Tiger |
28/1(+15%) | (8) Calgary Tiger 28/1, Left hurdles form well behind when winning first 2 starts over fences early last year. Pulled up in a strong Newbury Class 2 handicap on return and failed to see his race out either outing since. Dual chase winner but he's lost his way and needs a major turnaround. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (200/1 -4900%) Stumps Or Slips |
200/1(-4900%) | (7) Stumps Or Slips 200/1, Winner of first 2 completed starts in this sphere (both here) and right back to form when second at Huntingdon last month, avoiding usual mistakes. Payer on that effort. Dual chase winner who got back on track with a close call at Huntingdon latest; up 2lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (250/1 -9900%) Donnie Azoff |
250/1(-9900%) | (4) Donnie Azoff 250/1, Well prepared following 8 months off to land 9-runner handicap hurdle at Stratford last week, staying on well. That was a career-best effort so clearly very dangerous from 3 lb lower if he can translate that back to fences (hasn't really convinced so far). Clearcut win over hurdles last week and is 3lb lower back in this sphere; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (100/1 -1150%) Blueberry Wine |
100/1(-1150%) | (5) Blueberry Wine 100/1, Five-time winner over fences, landing handicaps at Huntingdon/Aintree early last summer. Lost his way a little after next start but should be fit from a couple of spins over novice hurdles. Runner-up in this race last year and has claims off dangerous mark back over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (100/1 -1233%) Mix Of Clover |
100/1(-1233%) | (6) Mix Of Clover 100/1, Modest form for Alastair Ralph in 2023 but fit from pointing and right back on track returned to 2m when third of 10 in a hunter at Stratford last month. Back with former yard and major claims on that run. Last win was in 2021 but he went close in hunter chase latest; in the mix back in handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (300/1 -2900%) Mick Maestro |
300/1(-2900%) | (2) Mick Maestro 300/1, Dual winner over hurdles in 2022 who fared better than of late when third of 9 in handicap at Southwell last month. Followed that with a lesser effort at Bangor and fell early previous chase start. Unexposed over fences but was tailed off over hurdles latest and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (200/1 -1150%) Showbusiness |
200/1(-1150%) | (3) Showbusiness 200/1, Belatedly off the mark over hurdles at Punchestown 2 years ago for Gordon Elliott. Well held at Ffos Las 12 months later on yard debut but encouraging chase debut back from another lay-off when runner-up at Chepstow in November. Ran no sort of race both starts since, though. Lightly raced in recent years and tailed off in last two chase runs; plenty to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
DONNIE AZOFF returned from a 229-day break to score readily over hurdles at Stratford last Tuesday and he could prove difficult to beat off a 3lb lower mark back over fences. In This World has finished runner-up in each of his three chase appearances to date and it may well be a similar story here, while Huntingdon second Stumps Or Slips should also give a good account.
A literal reading of MIX OF CLOVER's third-placed finish in a hunter at the beginning of the month suggests he's on a good mark back in a regulation handicap having rejoined his former yard. He's therefore marginally preferred in favour of In This World and Donnie Azoff.
Several have possibilities but IN THIS WORLD gets the vote ahead of Donnie Azoff and Stumps Or Slips.

1st (4) (15/2 -7%) Head On |
15/2(-7%) | (4) Head On 15/2, Won 3 times in early stages of the 2021-22 campaign and was runner-up on second start following a lengthy absence at Doncaster in November. Back on track when fifth at Warwick last time and can't be ruled out. Ran okay last month but has been very inconsistent since the autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (15/2 -67%) Bells Of Stamford |
15/2(-67%) | (11) Bells Of Stamford 15/2, Has slipped to an appealing mark and went with a lot more zest with cheekpieces on for the first time when second at Warwick last time. Obvious claims if he's in the same form. Not easy to predict but ran well in defeat when cheekpieces were added last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (50/1 -150%) Pawpaw |
50/1(-150%) | (7) Pawpaw 50/1, Scored twice for David Bridgwater last spring but has completely lost form since joining this yard. Badly out of sorts under all codes since the winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (66/1 -1100%) Eightytwo Team |
66/1(-1100%) | (13) Eightytwo Team 66/1, Unreliable type. One win from 29 NH runs. 7/1, good third of 9 in handicap chase at Southwell (24.3f, good) 15 days ago. Hard to know if she'll be in the same form. Comes here after two good efforts on good ground this spring; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (100/1 -1900%) Dirk Gently |
100/1(-1900%) | (10) Dirk Gently 100/1, Placed in 3 handicaps last summer. Temperament has long been under suspicion, though, and typically looked hard work when fourth at Uttoxeter last time. Others preferred. Second over 2m4f here last summer and also ran well when upped to 3m this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (14) (80/1 -400%) Kooky |
80/1(-400%) | (14) Kooky 80/1, Reached the frame in first 2 hurdles but has failed to kick on since sent into handicaps, including over fences. Well beaten in all five handicaps (the last twice over fences); needs a huge leap forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (66/1 -560%) Easkey Lad |
66/1(-560%) | (1) Easkey Lad 66/1, Improved to win a pair of 3m Ffos Las handicaps last summer. Mixed record thereafter and has something to prove having been pulled up over C&D last time. Looked out of sorts on both outings this spring; headgear switched today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (450/1 -3650%) Getthepot |
450/1(-3650%) | (5) Getthepot 450/1, Successful twice in handicap chases at Huntingdon in 2022 and best effort since when runner-up at Exeter (19.2f) in October. Not at best since but probably rusty on return over C&D and he's well treated now. Tailed off over C&D last month, after a break, and has basically become disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (250/1 -1150%) Methodtothemagic |
250/1(-1150%) | (3) Methodtothemagic 250/1, Had her resurgence halted when a broken blood vessel led to finishing tenth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Worcester (20f, good to soft) in September. Bled again on first run since (off 8 months) when well held over hurdles at Uttoxeter 5 weeks ago so hard to recommend. Back chasing on good mark but was pulled up in last two hurdle races, having bled. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (100/1 -733%) Sinister Minister |
100/1(-733%) | (9) Sinister Minister 100/1, Finally got the job done when accounting for 5 rivals in a conditional jockeys' handicap at Bangor (20.3f, soft) in October. However, he proved a major let-down the following month and fell at Uttoxeter on return last month. Has a bit to prove. Consistent in early part of last season; fell on last month's reappearance outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (200/1 -2400%) Gouazec |
200/1(-2400%) | (2) Gouazec 200/1, Successful 3 times from 16 starts between the flags but only modest so far over hurdles and mark demands more. Triple point winner; yet to make a splash under rules; may do so now switched to chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (350/1 -2400%) Gallow Ford |
350/1(-2400%) | (6) Gallow Ford 350/1, Seen only sparingly since winning over hurdles at Exeter in April 2021 but again shaped as if retaining some ability when sixth at Hereford 6 months ago. Worth a market check on first run since. Lightly raced since hurdle win in 2021 and yet to convince over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (350/1 -961%) Pattern Cutter |
350/1(-961%) | (12) Pattern Cutter 350/1, Little to shout about so far under Rules. Set for another struggle for all that he's up in trip for this handicap debut. Soundly beaten at big odds in three maiden hurdles this spring; chase/handicap debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (450/1 -6329%) Malinas Island |
450/1(-6329%) | (8) Malinas Island 450/1, Dual winner of staying handicaps over hurdles during 2021/22. Hasn't fired yet this term but there were signs that he retains ability and he's on a fair mark now. Returns from a short break. Didn't run badly on chase debut in November; not seen again until pulled up in April. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BELLS OF STAMFORD gets a tentative vote in what looks a tricky puzzle for punters to solve. He responded positively to the first-time cheekpieces/tongue-tie combination (both retained) when runner-up at Warwick four weeks ago and should go well off an unchanged mark. Eightytwo Team has placed on her last couple of starts and will likely give another good account, while Dirk Gently and Head On are other names to note.
GETTHEPOT is capable of winning from this sort of mark and he was probably just blowing off the cobwebs over C&D last time, so he's fancied to get back to form and land this weak affair. Bells of Stamford is an obvious threat if the cheekpieces continue to have a positive effect and Head On isn't completely ruled out.
Three-time point winner GOUAZEC, who has made a very quiet start to his rules career but might come into his own on this chasing debut.

1st (2) (11/4 +8%) Hometown Boy |
11/4(+8%) | (2) Hometown Boy 11/4, Useful hurdles form during 2020/21 campaign, the highlight of which was a Grade 3 handicap success at Aintree. Showed something closer to that form after another 3½ months off over fences at Bangor 4 weeks ago but must build on that. Very lightly raced in recent years but ran quite well at Bangor last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/2 -40%) Way Out |
7/2(-40%) | (3) Way Out 7/2, Three-time winner over hurdles who initially upped his game switched to fences, second in beginners' event at Warwick last month. Hasn't completed twice since but this sort of test should be ideal and he might be worth another chance. Unseated rider on last two outings but can be dangerous off this mark if avoiding mishap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (33/1 -175%) Kilta |
33/1(-175%) | (5) Kilta 33/1, Belied his position 12 lb out of the weights as he justified support to make a successful debut over fences at Cartmel (21.2f, soft) last month, leading late. Next run at Uttoxeter probably came too soon and he retains potential in this sphere. Below form on latest outing but won on chasing debut and further progress remains possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (25/1 -1011%) Captain Morgs |
25/1(-1011%) | (1) Captain Morgs 25/1, Returned to form from out of the blue reverted to fences after 3 months off when scoring at Aintree (25f) 6 weeks ago, though typically didn't look straightforward. Far from sure to run so well here although is dropping in class back against novices. Back in career-best form when winning by 6l at Aintree last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (10/1 +0%) Glynn |
10/1(+0%) | (6) Glynn 10/1, Evidently not easy to train but he was a fairly useful hurdler for Nicky Henderson. Showed more aptitude for chasing behind Kilta at Cartmel 4 weeks ago but ended up last when first had looked more likely for most of the way. Up in trip. Led for most of the way before finishing last of three at Cartmel last month; more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (4) (4/1 +50%) Watergrange Jack |
4/1(+50%) | (4) Watergrange Jack 4/1, Showed improved form over hurdles last year, successful here before going on to score twice at Fontwell. Big reappearance on second run over fences at Stratford but poor at Bangor next time. Went close at Stratford last month and the ground was slower than ideal on latest outing. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
CAPTAIN MORGS wouldn't be the most reliable, but he bounced right back to form on his return to fences at Aintree last month and a 6lb rise might not be enough to stop him if arriving in the same mood. Way Out has the ability, as shown when a close second at Warwick three starts ago, but he needs to brush up on his jumping. Hometown Boy has been dropped 2lb since his latest effort and could also get competitive.
WAY OUT has 2 non-completions to leave behind but should have a race like this in him and gets the vote. Captain Morgs drops in class after his Aintree victory and can go well again if in the same mood.
Patience in WAY OUT is beginning to wear thin but he remains on a good mark and could be hard to beat if he gets round safely.

Desert Guest |
(9) (15/2 -88%)15/2(-88%) | (9) Desert Guest 15/2, 16,000 gns 3-y-o, Teofilo gelding. Half-brother to 1m winner Noble Patron. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stays 2¾m) Halifax. Worth keeping an eye on. Yard has had a bumper winner here (9-2) recently and he's an interesting newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fully Gaden |
(10) (35/1 +30%)35/1(+30%) | (10) Fully Gaden 35/1, Jack Hobbs colt. Dam unraced half-sister to fair 2½m hurdle winner Old Town Garde. Last in point bumper (Apr 20). Tailed-off last in his sole point and can only be watched on this switch to a bumper. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (4) (3/1 +33%) Getaway Vic |
3/1(+33%) | (4) Getaway Vic 3/1, £20,000 5-y-o, Getaway gelding. Dam (c133/h120), 17f-2½m hurdle/chase winner (stayed 4m), closely related to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 25f) Victoria Bay. Off mark in Irish points at third attempt (May 11). Irish point winner and he's out of a bumper winner; interesting on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (40/1 -515%) Loki's Mischief |
40/1(-515%) | (11) Loki's Mischief 40/1, No Risk At All gelding. Dam, 17f-2¼m hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to useful hurdler/high-class chaser (stayed 3¼m) Ajas (by No Risk At All). Ticks plenty of boxes. 60,000euros 2yo; plenty to like on paper and he needs a close look on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (40/1 -60%) Remember Moi |
40/1(-60%) | (12) Remember Moi 40/1, 16/1 and hooded, made no impression when eighth of 11 in bumper at Southwell (15.8f, good to soft) on debut just over 3 weeks ago. Hood left off and she looks one for later on. 16-1 on Southwell debut and she hung left before finishing a well-held eighth of 11. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (66/1 -100%) Ballytechno |
66/1(-100%) | (2) Ballytechno 66/1, Milan gelding who was third sole start in Irish points but offered little when eighth of 11 in bumper at Ludlow (15.8f, good to soft) on Rules debut 14 months ago. Best watched. Struggled in a Ludlow bumper last April and has not been seen since; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (100/1 -2903%) Ahanaglogh |
100/1(-2903%) | (1) Ahanaglogh 100/1, Watar gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/chaser Mr Mafia. Dam unraced. Placed both starts in points, third last time (Apr 14). Not one to rule out if the market speaks in his favour. Placed in two points and he needs a close look on rules debut; yard won this in 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (100/1 -4900%) Born In The West |
100/1(-4900%) | (3) Born In The West 100/1, Point winner who made a solid Rules debut when runner-up at Newton Abbot (16.8f, good) 12 days ago, looking in control briefly final 1f before collared close home. Should do better and he's likely to feature. Irish point winner who was only just caught on his recent bumper debut; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (400/1 -3233%) Pike Road |
400/1(-3233%) | (5) Pike Road 400/1, 6,500 gns 3-y-o, Yeats gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdle winner The Flying Spur and fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser in France Al Clay. Runner-up only start in Irish points (Feb 4). Runner-up in sole Irish point and needs watching in market on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (100/1 -52%) Blue Razz |
100/1(-52%) | (7) Blue Razz 100/1, Fountain of Youth gelding. Dam 1m-1½m winner. Likely outsider on debut. Out of a multiple 1m-1m4f winner; makes belated debut in a bumper and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (125/1 -150%) As Good As Can Be |
125/1(-150%) | (6) As Good As Can Be 125/1, €40,000 3-y-o, £5,000 4-y-o, Milan gelding. Dam unraced sister to Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Bobs Worth and fairly useful 2m hurdler winner Chesterfieldavenue. Unplaced completed start in Irish points (Apr 28). Likely best watched on Rules debut. Failed to complete in two of his three Irish points; probably best watched on rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (400/1 -1112%) Blue Tornado |
400/1(-1112%) | (8) Blue Tornado 400/1, €20,000 3-y-o, Policy Maker gelding. Dam (h106), bumper/2½m hurdle winner, sister to ungenuine hurdler/fairly useful chaser (stayed 3½m) Zacharova. Failed to complete all 3 starts in points, fell latest (May 18). Wears tongue strap. Failed to complete in all three points; tongue-tie is now added on rules debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Having landed a point-to-point at Cothelstone last month, BORN IN THE WEST made a highly promising debut under Rules when pulling clear with the winner at Newton Abbot earlier this month. David Pipe's charge is expected to progress and put that experience to good use, although Fergal O'Brien is no stranger to success in these types of races and his representative Ahanaglogh must be respected. Archie Watson doesn't have many runners in this sphere and Desert Guest warrants a market check.
Only a handful of these have been seen under Rules and it's BORN IN THE WEST who is fancied to go a place better than when finishing runner-up at Newton Abbot 12 days ago. Ahanaglogh, Getaway Vic and Loki's Mischief look the main dangers before the benefit of market clues.
Top of the list is point winner BORN IN THE WEST, who was only just caught on his rules debut at Newton Abbot 12 days ago.

Guard Duty |
(1) (11/4 +0%)11/4(+0%) | (1) Guard Duty 11/4, Talented enough to make a winning bumper debut at Southwell in November. Good third at Warwick 3 months later, but did quite a bit wrong after a long absence when fourth on recent hurdling debut (pulled hard and jumped sketchily) at Ffos Las (15.8f, good) last month. Hood applied. Bumper winner; only fourth on hurdling debut but can improve if hood helps him settle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Either Way |
(10) (18/1 +10%)18/1(+10%) | (10) Either Way 18/1, Runner-up sole start in Irish points and joined a top yard but proved too free when failing to meet market expectations in a Southwell bumper last month. Again failed to last out back there just over 3 weeks ago but it's too soon to be writing her off now hurdling. With a top stable but showed only minor promise in two mares' bumpers this spring. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (7) (9/2 +10%) Jumeirah King |
9/2(+10%) | (7) Jumeirah King 9/2, Fairly useful maiden on the Flat for Kevin Ryan but fitted with a tongue tie, failed badly to meet expectations on hurdles debut in January. Showed a bit more at Wincanton 3 months later but failed to improve much more when fourth at Hereford (16.2f, good to soft) last month. Fairly useful on the Flat and is improving with experience over hurdles; likely contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (7/2 -5%) Authoceltic |
7/2(-5%) | (6) Authoceltic 7/2, Authorized colt who made a promising start to his career when 9 lengths third of 10 to Salver in Exeter juvenile hurdle. Failed to back that up in France since and didn't make much of an impact on his recent handicap debut. More expected back in this company. Respectable sixth in Class 3 handicap at Newton Abbot this month; shortlisted here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (450/1 -3650%) Red Hugh |
450/1(-3650%) | (3) Red Hugh 450/1, Point winner who underperformed when sent off 11/10 for his Rules debut at Thurles in March. Much more like it 10 weeks on when third at Tipperary last month and now makes hurdles bow having switched yards. Check betting. Placed in Tipperary bumper for Emmet Mullins last month; makes stable/hurdle debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (66/1 -100%) Queens Venture |
66/1(-100%) | (12) Queens Venture 66/1, Made the frame on the second of 2 starts in points but was readily outpointed once the pace lifted when seventh of 9 in bumper (11/4) at Southwell (15.8f, soft) on Rules debut just over 3 weeks ago. Makes the quick switch to hurdles and shouldn't be underestimated for her top yard. Made low-key rules debut when seventh of nine in mares' bumper this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (250/1 -150%) Selectivelistening |
250/1(-150%) | (4) Selectivelistening 250/1, Well held on his completed starts in points and fared no better on his debut under Rules in maiden hurdle at this C&D (good to soft) just under 2 weeks ago. Maiden pointer who was soundly beaten in C&D maiden hurdle on rules debut a fortnight ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (66/1 -371%) Minella Miracle |
66/1(-371%) | (2) Minella Miracle 66/1, Modest in bumpers for Thomas Gallagher and ran to a similar level sent hurdling for new yard when third of 11 in a maiden at Stratford (16.3f, good) last month. Disappointed with his finishing effort up in trip there next time so no surprise to see him back at 2m. Placed on stable/hurdle debut in May but his latest run was a backward step. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (66/1 -843%) Lion Wait |
66/1(-843%) | (8) Lion Wait 66/1, Fair form in 2 maidens on Flat for Andrew Oliver then sold for 72,000 gns last October. Worth a second look on hurdles bow/return. Displayed significant promise in two Irish Flat maidens last year; interesting recruit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (100/1 -809%) Trudie Glen |
100/1(-809%) | (11) Trudie Glen 100/1, Showed plenty to work on when third in a Ludlow bumper last May. Not in the same form at Catterick 6 months later but pleasing start to hurdles career when runner-up at Southwell last month. Failed to build on that at Market Rasen just under 3 weeks ago however, but it remains early days. Second on last month's hurdling debut but latest run was a backward step; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (100/1 -525%) Zain Farhh |
100/1(-525%) | (5) Zain Farhh 100/1, Rather lost his way on the Flat for Paul Webber last year and sold for just £3,500 last month. Watching brief advised on hurdling debut. Showed some fair Flat form but makes stable/hurdle debut after 278-day absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (9) (20/1 -233%) Think First |
20/1(-233%) | (9) Think First 20/1, Useful Flat performer (stays 14.5f) for James Tate. Went close on hurdling debut at Doncaster back in November and returns to this sphere after a few Flat outings this spring. Serious claims. Very useful Flat-racer; second of three in juvenile hurdle in November; can feature here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
After racing keenly on his hurdling bow last month, it is no surprise that Emma Lavelle opts to place a hood on GUARD DUTY. That said, it was a creditable performance to finish fourth and, should the headgear allow him to settle, the Kapgarde gelding could show his true colours. Red Hugh displayed signs of promise in bumpers for Emmet Mullins and is of interest now in the care of Jake Coulson, while others to note include Either Way and Queens Venture.
Preference is for THINK FIRST, who showed plenty of aptitude for hurdling when finishing runner-up at Doncaster in November and Neil Mulholland's charge can go one better arriving fit from the Flat. Trudie Glen has shown promise in a couple of maiden hurdles this spring and she should have more to offer for her top yard, with Authoceltic and Guard Duty another couple worth considering, also.
Not seen to best effect after racing too freely on his hurdling debut, GUARD DUTY can display the necessary improvement here.

Barleythorpe |
(4) (50/1 -52%)50/1(-52%) | (4) Barleythorpe 50/1, In need of the experience but hinted at ability in a bumper at Market Rasen on debut, before making little impression when sixth of 9 at Huntingdon (15.8f, good to firm) in May. Makes hurdling bow on first start since leaving Pam Sly. Not disgraced in two bumpers for Pam Sly this spring; stable/hurdle debut today. |

1st (5) (5/6 +17%) Brave Knight |
5/6(+17%) | (5) Brave Knight 5/6, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 2m) for Sir Mark Prescott, winning 2 handicaps last year and running well when third at Ascot on final outing in October. Dam half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (winner around 2m) Captain Brown, so he's one to note on hurdles debut. Fairly useful on the Flat for Sir Mark Prescott; joined top stable for hurling career. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 +0%) Nowmelad |
2/1(+0%) | (3) Nowmelad 2/1, Point winner who ran to a modest level both starts in bumpers, but made an encouraging start in this sphere when runner-up in a Ffos Las maiden (15.8f, good) last month. Can make another bold bid with his hurdling debut effort behind him. Good second of 12 on last month's hurdling debut at Ffos Las; leading contender here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (28/1 -133%) Lady Wormsley |
28/1(-133%) | (12) Lady Wormsley 28/1, Fair form when winning 2 handicaps on the Flat in 2023 (both at 1m) and wasn't disgraced when sixth of 13 at Kempton when last seen in November. Has left James Fanshawe ahead of her hurdles debut. Fair on the Flat at up to 1m; makes stable/hurdle debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (16/1 -220%) Olivia Kate |
16/1(-220%) | (10) Olivia Kate 16/1, Well held in bumpers and fared little better sent hurdling on her return. However, she showed much more than previously when third in novice at this C&D (good to soft) 25 days ago, so she's one to consider with tongue strap added. No threat on hurdling debut but her clear third here this month was quite promising. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (400/1 -300%) Miss Kassiopi |
400/1(-300%) | (9) Miss Kassiopi 400/1, Very green when down the field in a Warwick bumper on debut, before weakening quickly when last of 9 at the same course (2m, soft) in January. Looks to be up against it as she goes hurdling. Soundly beaten in two soft-ground bumpers last season; hurdle debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (300/1 -500%) Billy Butcher |
300/1(-500%) | (1) Billy Butcher 300/1, Down the field on first 2 starts in bumpers but under less testing conditions he showed his first form when seventh of 16 at Ludlow (15.8f, good) in April. Task is now to build on his latest effort as he goes hurdling. Not beaten far in his latest bumper but further improvement needed on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (450/1 -1700%) Mokoro |
450/1(-1700%) | (2) Mokoro 450/1, In top hands but well held in a bumper and both starts over hurdles so far, faring little better after a wind op when a remote fourth in novice at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to soft) 11 days ago. Improvement required. Soundly beaten in a bumper and on first two hurdling starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (100/1 -203%) Katstar |
100/1(-203%) | (7) Katstar 100/1, Modest maiden on the Flat at up to 10f. Switched to hurdling on his first start since leaving Harry Eustace, made little impression when sixth of 13 in maiden at Ffos Las (15.8f, good) last month. Much more needed. Ran well to a point on recent stable/hurdle debut; not ruled out each-way. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (100/1 -300%) Go Johnny Go |
100/1(-300%) | (6) Go Johnny Go 100/1, Won sole start in point bumpers though looked a hard ride switched to Rules at Exeter in April. Finished third in a point subsequently, but offered little on his hurdling/stable debut when pulled up in novice at Newton Abbot (21.6f) 3 weeks ago. Pulled up in pretty thin Newton Abbot novice on recent hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (100/1 -203%) Be My Design |
100/1(-203%) | (11) Be My Design 100/1, Mahler filly. Half-sister to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler Knowwhentoholdem. Was going well and looked to have every chance when fell 3 out sole start in Irish points in May. One of the more interesting hurdling newcomers in the line-up. In process of making promising Irish point debut before falling last month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Having shown a smart level of form on the Flat, BRAVE KNIGHT may prove to be a shrewd acquisition and it would be no surprise if he had enough in the locker to score on his debut for Paul Nicholls. Mokoro hasn't cut much ice in his two starts over hurdles but on his second start after wind surgery, an improved showing is not out of the question. Point-to-point winner Nowmelad found only one rival too good on his hurdles debut last month and he merits respect.
BRAVE KNIGHT developed into a fairly useful handicapper on the Flat last year for Sir Mark Prescott, winning at Windsor and Chester, so he looks to be an interesting recruit to hurdling for his leading yard. He is taken to get the better of Nowmelad, who shaped encouragingly on his hurdles bow.
Brave Knight was a talented Flat-racer but slight preference is for the proven hurdling ability of NOWMELAD.

1st (9) (12/1 -71%) Mactavish |
12/1(-71%) | (9) Mactavish 12/1, Recorded back-to-back wins at Hereford (both at 21.7f) last year and largely creditable efforts since, save for his latest display back at Hereford. Each-way chance if he puts his best foot forward. Didn't fire when well backed last time but a big player if judged on earlier Ludlow second. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (13) (28/1 -40%) Bergentown |
28/1(-40%) | (13) Bergentown 28/1, Little show after making a winning start for this yard at Bangor last June and it's easy enough to look elsewhere. Won when fresh last year but was out of form when last seen in the autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (66/1 -164%) Present Fair |
66/1(-164%) | (4) Present Fair 66/1, Brushed off a disappointing run over fences when winning 2m handicap back in this sphere at Uttoxeter in December. However, he has failed to repeat that in 4 subsequent starts (has undergone another wind op since latest outing in April) and needs to bounce back. Has lost his way since winning on heavy ground in December; others have less to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (12/1 -167%) Shuil Ceoil |
12/1(-167%) | (3) Shuil Ceoil 12/1, Confirmed earlier promise when winning 15-runner handicap at Exeter (21f, heavy) in December. Runner-up twice since and latest fourth of 15 at Ffos Las was another good effort, so there is certainly cause for optimism. Returned to form with two good efforts this spring and can make his presence felt again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (14) (100/1 -614%) Jormungandr |
100/1(-614%) | (14) Jormungandr 100/1, No real impact in his qualifying runs and significant step forward needed now pitched into a handicap. Tailed off in all three qualifying runs but still worth a glance in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (33/1 -313%) Zucayan |
33/1(-313%) | (5) Zucayan 33/1, Got his head in front at Ludlow last spring but he hasn't made much of an impact in 2 completed starts since and others make more appeal. Returned from break with encouraging run in April; suffered nasty fall last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (300/1 -3650%) Glimpse Of Glory |
300/1(-3650%) | (7) Glimpse Of Glory 300/1, Shaped with promise when placed in juvenile events at Wetherby and Market Rasen this spring. No match for the upwardly mobile Mostly Sunny on handicap debut at Southwell (15.8f, soft) but that wasn't a bad effort by any means and he should improve for this step up in trip. Unexposed 4yo; placed on all three starts; tries a new trip today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (80/1 -400%) Gentle Victor |
80/1(-400%) | (11) Gentle Victor 80/1, Latest third in an 8-runner Bangor handicap (19.6f, good) was just about his best effort yet. 1 lb lower now but another step forward will be needed if he's to make an impact here. Kept on for third at Bangor this month but needs further progress here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (125/1 -525%) Hedera Park |
125/1(-525%) | (8) Hedera Park 125/1, Reached the frame 3 times in maiden/novice hurdles before improving to make a winning handicap debut over C&D in September. However, two heavy defeats have followed and she now finds herself with a bit to prove. Hood refitted. C&D winner in September and shaped well here last week, after a layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (350/1 -961%) Dreamsundermyfeet |
350/1(-961%) | (12) Dreamsundermyfeet 350/1, Dual chase winner in 2021/22 but largely struggled since and similar scenario likely back hurdling here following a 6-month absence. Badly lost his way over fences last year; reverts to hurdling after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (300/1 -5355%) Faded Fantasy |
300/1(-5355%) | (6) Faded Fantasy 300/1, Opened his account in a 20.5f Southwell maiden last June and produced by far his best effort since when a strong-finishing close second over this C&D at the beginning of the month. Remains on a good mark up 6 lb and he's a live contender. Has modest strike-rate but went close over C&D this month and is still on a wotkable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (2) (350/1 -7678%) Bread And Butter |
350/1(-7678%) | (2) Bread And Butter 350/1, Has fallen appreciably in the weights and better than for a while refitted with a tongue strap after 4 months off when third of 9 at Taunton (19f, good) in April. Failed to back that up under an inexperienced rider next time but could have a big part to play under stronger handling here. Not the force of old but made the frame on consecutive outings this spring; e-w claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (250/1 -4900%) Beat The Heat |
250/1(-4900%) | (1) Beat The Heat 250/1, Bagged 3 handicap hurdles at Fontwell in 2022 and returned to form when hitting the target back there in a first-time visor (retained) a fortnight ago. 5 lb rise fair enough and he's one for the shortlist. Bounced back to form to win in new headgear at Fontwell this month; 5lb rise manageable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
FADED FANTASY pulled clear with the eventual winner when finishing an excellent second over C&D earlier this month, and Christian Williams' charge gets the vote to shoulder a 6lb rise to go one place better this time around. Glimpse Of Glory bumped into an improver when runner-up on his handicap debut over 2m at Southwell last time and a prominent showing off an unchanged mark looks likely. Beat The Heat responded well to a first-time visor (retained) when winning cosily over 2m3f at Fontwell recently, and he completes the shortlist.
The most appealing of these is lightly-raced 4-y-o GLIMPSE OF GLORY, who promised to be well-served by this step up in trip. Bread And Butter is lurking on a dangerous mark and he is feared most ahead of Faded Fantasy and recent Fontwell winner Beat The Heat.
Back in good nick when going close over C&D at the start of this month, FADED FANTASY (nap) is still well handicapped after a 6lb rise.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
