1st (6) (8.5/1 +39%) Sir Jack West |
8.5/1(+39%) | (6) Sir Jack West 8.5/1, Capitalised on a reduced mark when finally opening his account in 20.5f Leicester handicap hurdle in November but but pulled up back there the following month and mixed round of jumping when remote third on Warwick chase debut in February. Been off 12 weeks. February's chase debut run wasn't devoid of promise but a sizeable step forward is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4.5/1 +0%) Mole Court |
4.5/1(+0%) | (3) Mole Court 4.5/1, Off the mark in Hereford handicap hurdle in February. Respectable third at Southwell last month ahead of this switch to fences for the first time. One to consider. Running well over hurdles end of last season; lightly raced and respected on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (14/1 +0%) Hermes Le Gris |
14/1(+0%) | (9) Hermes Le Gris 14/1, Disappointing in handicap hurdles this year and it remains to be seen whether a switch to fences improves matters. Has a first-time hood added to his tongue tie. Disappointing over hurdles last season but perhaps the switch to fences will help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (10/1 +0%) Man Of The North |
10/1(+0%) | (11) Man Of The North 10/1, Offered more when second over 21f at Newton Abbot last month and stamina almost certainly stretched when remote fourth at Stratford (27.5f) since. Form of last month's second at Newton Abbot reads well; failed to stay 3m3f subsequently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (12/1 +0%) Dom Bosco |
12/1(+0%) | (1) Dom Bosco 12/1, Bumper efforts weren't devoid of promise. Achieved only modest form over hurdles, disappointing in an Exeter handicap hurdle last month. Now switches to fences and has a tongue tie fitted as he bids to get his career back on track. Chase debut; below par last time but on a competitive mark on best form; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (40/1 -60%) Est Illic |
40/1(-60%) | (4) Est Illic 40/1, Fairly useful sort at his best but has essentially become disappointing nowadays. Did manage to finish third at Bangor last time but it was a far from convincing performance, losing his place completely before closing up again late. Fair third at Bangor last month; it remains to be seen if he'll stay this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (4/1 -45%) Who Is That |
4/1(-45%) | (5) Who Is That 4/1, Third chase win of last season when seeing off 5 rivals at Fontwell (19.5f) last month. The runner-up gave the form a boost when scoring last month and a 4 lb rise may not prevent him going in again. Back to form with a win at Fontwell last month and the clear runner-up has scored since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (3.5/1 +61%) Balinesker Beach |
3.5/1(+61%) | (10) Balinesker Beach 3.5/1, Poor form over hurdles but it's possible this point winner could do better over fences and the booking of Harry Cobden takes the eye. One to monitor closely in the betting. Plenty of experience in points so could improve upon his hurdle form now tackling fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (10/1 -11%) Eros |
10/1(-11%) | (8) Eros 10/1, Still a maiden but was placed 5 times in handicap chases last season. Remote fourth at Exeter latest but he's capable of bouncing back in first-time cheekpieces. On the shortlist. Longstanding maiden who was disappointing last time but earlier form brings him into it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (14/1 -56%) No Worries |
14/1(-56%) | (7) No Worries 14/1, Won 3 times over hurdles in 2021/22 season and struck on Ludlow chase debut in November. Fell heavily 4 out at Huntingdon on Boxing Day and not seen since. Won on chase debut then fell next time; goes well fresh and he's one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (20/1 +9%) Yaazaain |
20/1(+9%) | (12) Yaazaain 20/1, Poor maiden hurdler who was pulled up back chasing at Taunton when last seen in December. Needs to have been refreshed by a break. Struggling when last seen in December and others have more compelling claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (22/1 -120%) Guguss Collonges |
22/1(-120%) | (2) Guguss Collonges 22/1, Took a step back in right direction when fourth of 10 in handicap chase at Ludlow in December but not in the same form over hurdles at Warwick 8 weeks later. Been off for 3 months. Mixed form across his four starts for this yard but he's a possible if bouncing back. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
WHO IS THAT regained the winning thread when dropping back to an extended 2m3f at Fontwell last month and, with the runner-up subsequently winning at Fakenham, a 4lb rise looks more than fair. Mole Court has been running with credit over hurdles of late and Ben Pauling's gelding looks the type who could relish the larger obstacles. He's feared most, with the returning No Worries another to consider given his lightly-raced profile in this sphere.
WHO IS THAT saw off a next-time-out winner at Fontwell last month so a 4 lb rise may not prevent Chris Gordon's charge going in again. Eros is better than he showed at Exeter last time and is second choice ahead of chase-newcomers Mole Court and Balinesker Beach.
Preference is for MAN OF THE NORTH, who was a good second over 2m5f at Newton Abbot two runs ago then failed to stay 3m3f at Stratford.

1st (5) (7/1 -40%) Wick Green |
7/1(-40%) | (5) Wick Green 7/1, Back to his best when making a winning start for Ben Pauling in February and backed that up when an excellent second at Taunton. Tame effort at Wincanton a month ago but type to bounce back given overall profile and cheekpieces now on. Pulled up last time but ran really well on first two stable starts; cheekpieces go on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8/1 -100%) No No Maestro |
8/1(-100%) | (1) No No Maestro 8/1, Fairly useful chaser who opened his account over hurdles in a 3-runner novice at Worcester (23f, good) in July, well ridden. Well held over timber 3 months and off since, but he's in top hands. Lightly raced since chasing hat-trick in 2021; not ruled out after some time off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (4.5/1 +10%) Oneupmanship |
4.5/1(+10%) | (9) Oneupmanship 4.5/1, Fair hurdler who was in the process of making a good first attempt over fences when falling at Ffos Las in December 2021. Hasn't stood much racing since but fitted with blinkers, he showed much more than previous 2 runs for this yard when fourth at Uttoxeter last month. Could go well. Didn't quite see out 3m on soft last time; less emphasis on stamina here, which is a plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (5.5/1 +0%) Last Quarter |
5.5/1(+0%) | (4) Last Quarter 5.5/1, Hurdles winner who left his chase bow well behind when just failing at Ffos Las (23.8f) in March. Below par at Uttoxeter next time but shaped quite well returned to Ffos Las last month. Has run well on two of his last three starts and he's on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (3.5/1 +65%) Premier D'troice |
3.5/1(+65%) | (8) Premier D'troice 3.5/1, Capitalised on a much-reduced mark when landing a Uttoxeter handicap chase (26f) last June. Largely below that level since, clouting one at Ffos Las 3 weeks ago. Made bad mistake at Ffos Las last time but in good form previously and one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (11/1 -38%) Rakhine State |
11/1(-38%) | (6) Rakhine State 11/1, Three-time winner over hurdles for Gordon Elliott and gained first success for current yard in handicap at Worcester in summer 2021. Lightly raced and hasn't built on that since, however, often held back by his jumping. Fair thirds on all four chase starts; dropping down weights and might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (4.5/1 +40%) Icone D'aubrelle |
4.5/1(+40%) | (2) Icone D'aubrelle 4.5/1, Won juvenile hurdle at Bordeaux and produced similar form in 3 runs upon joining present yard last term. Low-key start in handicaps in 2023 but retains potential on this his second chase start. Well beaten over hurdles last time but this step up in trip may suit on second chase start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (16/1 -14%) Great D'Ange |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Great D'Ange 16/1, Back to winning ways when taking 8-runner handicap chase at Huntingdon in December (23.6f, good to soft). However, he's disappointed on each of his three outings since. Won at Huntingdon last December but has struggled on his three starts since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (33/1 -175%) Lord Bryan |
33/1(-175%) | (3) Lord Bryan 33/1, In top form when completing a hat-trick around 3m between April and June in 2022. Pulled up 3 of 4 starts since and off 6 months. Very in-and-out profile but capable of running well if he's on a going day. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ONEUPMANSHIP shaped better than the beaten distance in first-time blinkers at Uttoxeter last month and Anthony Honeyball's charge could gain a first success over fences off a 1lb lower mark. No No Maestro has posted some of his better performances at this course over the smaller obstacles and he isn't taken lightly now tackling fences again on this return to action. Premier D'troice also enters the equation if putting in a cleaner round of jumping.
Backing a horse as fragile as ONEUPMANSHIP comes with risks attached but he shaped as though back in form fitted with blinkers at Uttoxeter last month so he's chanced to build on that. Wick Green was disappointing at Wincanton but is fancied to bounce back given his profile, with No No Maestro another to consider having been freshened up by a break.
A bad mistake in the back straight appeared to be costly for PREMIER D'TROICE at Ffos Las and he was in good form previously.

1st (5) (5/1 -67%) Fierce Warrior |
5/1(-67%) | (5) Fierce Warrior 5/1, Sholokhov gelding who made an encouraging start when fifth of 10 in bumper (3/1) at Huntingdon (15.8f, soft) on NH debut 37 days ago. Can build on it now. Looked inexperienced at Huntingdon (soft) and he could take a major step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (2.75/1 +54%) Onewaywest |
2.75/1(+54%) | (7) Onewaywest 2.75/1, €25,000 3-y-o, Westerner gelding. Half-brother to useful hurdler/chaser Birchdale and fairly useful 21f hurdle winner Sonny Crockett. Highly respected on debut. 25,000euros half-brother to Grade 2 hurdle winner Birchdale; interesting newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (5/1 -25%) Ted's Gift |
5/1(-25%) | (8) Ted's Gift 5/1, Scorpion gelding. Dam unraced. Yard took this event 12 months ago so he's a newcomer to note. In-form yard won this with a well-backed newcomer last year and he needs a close look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (18/1 -125%) Call Her Clever |
18/1(-125%) | (9) Call Her Clever 18/1, €2,200 3-y-o, Califet mare. Dam fair hurdler (21f winner, stayed 3m). Wears tongue strap. Another newcomer who needs considering. Wears equipment on debut but yard has a good strike-rate (22%) in bumpers in recent years. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (50/1 -100%) Touch Of Thunder |
50/1(-100%) | (3) Touch Of Thunder 50/1, Fifth of 7 in bumper (5/1) at Warwick (16f, heavy) on NH debut 48 days ago. Needs a big step forward. Only 5-1 at Warwick (soft) in March but he finished a remote fifth of seven. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (1.75/1 +61%) Jongleur D'etoiles |
1.75/1(+61%) | (6) Jongleur D'etoiles 1.75/1, It's Gino gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser Cariatide and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Gain de Cause. Much respected debutant. One of two newcomers for the yard and interesting to see how he figures in market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (28/1 -133%) Princess Unique |
28/1(-133%) | (10) Princess Unique 28/1, £7,000 3-y-o, Telescope filly. Dam useful 2¾m-25f hurdle winner. No forlorn hope. Has quite a lot of stamina in her pedigree and this 4yo could be a longer-term prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (9/1 -6%) Charia |
9/1(-6%) | (4) Charia 9/1, Yorgunnabelucky gelding. Dam, fair 23f hurdle winner, also 9f-1½m winner on Flat, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 21f) Master Burbidge. Considered newcomer. Yard 13% in bumpers last season; needs watching in market on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Fierce Warrior was somewhat underwhelming when failing to justify favouritism on his bumper bow at Huntingdon last month and he will likely need to improve on that fifth-placed finish to capitalise here. With that in mind, a chance is taken on newcomer ONEWAYWEST, who is a half-brother to useful hurdle/chase winner Birchdale. Ben Pauling's gelding possesses enough speed in his pedigree to land a bumper and any market support would increase interest. Charia and Ted's Gift also require consideration.
Little form to go on and the market should prove highly informative. TED'S GIFT represents last year's winning yard so this Scorpion newcomer is fancied to make a winning start at the chief expense of fellow debuant Onewaywest. Nicky Henderson's Fierce Warrior hinted at promise when fifth at Huntingdon and can also have a say.
This looks tricky but the vote goes TED'S GIFT, who represents an in-form yard that won this with a well-backed newcomer last year.

1st (3) (5/1 -25%) Destroytheevidence |
5/1(-25%) | (3) Destroytheevidence 5/1, Fair form in a couple of bumpers this year (third at Doncaster latterly) and similar form without totally convincing with his application when third in 8-runner maiden hurdle at Kempton (21f) 16 days ago. Still, it remains early days with him at least. Promise in bumpers and on hurdles debut; step up in trip looks positive; competitive.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (0.83/1 +17%) Huelgoat |
0.83/1(+17%) | (4) Huelgoat 0.83/1, Much improved switched to chasing during second half of last year, completing quick-fire 4-timer at Newbury (22.4f) in November. Plenty of creditable efforts in defeat have followed, and likely he'll be sharper for first start for 4 months at Perth in April. Solid claims back over hurdles. If he can transfer his chase form back to this sphere, he's a big player.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (1.62/1 +7%) Almazhar Garde |
1.62/1(+7%) | (1) Almazhar Garde 1.62/1, Fairly useful chaser who comes here on a losing run but did run well when second in Grand Military Gold Cup on penultimate start in March. Below par display tackling 28f trip at Cheltenham since but he's certainly not out of things on this belated return to hurdling. Back over hurdles for the first time since 2021 and likely to need to improve to score.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (125/1 -150%) Blazing Hartingo |
125/1(-150%) | (2) Blazing Hartingo 125/1, 11,000 gns 5-y-o, Mores Wells gelding. Runner-up completed start in points but early reminders and finished well-beaten ninth in 11-runner Fontwell maiden hurdle on Rules debut 7 days ago. Passed over here. Raced prominently until weakening to be beaten a distance on debut; much more needed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (200/1 -100%) Tout Paris |
200/1(-100%) | (5) Tout Paris 200/1, Record over both sets of obstacles hardly solid and he was struggling some way out when pulled up in a Newton Abbot maiden (18.5f) early last month. Hard to fancy. Well below par on his last three starts; big improvement required.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Huelgoat and Almazhar Garde have scope to improve back over hurdles and may benefit greatly from a confidence booster. However, DESTROYTHEEVIDENCE, who ran green on his debut over timber at Kempton 16 days ago, could be worth chancing now that he has the benefit of experience to draw upon. Having cost 100,000 euros as a yearling, there is a lot to like about his pedigree, with his dam a half-sister to Gold Cup winner Long Run.
HUELGOAT developed into a fairly useful performer over fences last year, winning 4 times and, entitled to be sharper for his first start for 4 months at Perth in April, it would come as no surprise to see him play a leading role back over hurdles. Almazhar Garde is also better known for his exploits over fences but rates the chief threat.
This can go to HUELGOAT, who has conditions to suit. He does have stamina to prove over this far but they are not certain to test that.

1st (4) (16/1 -129%) Dasher Riley |
16/1(-129%) | (4) Dasher Riley 16/1, C&D novice hurdle winner last year and good run under a penalty next time before struggling up in trip in a handicap. Starts out for new yard after 9 months off. Stable debut after nine months off; could be a major threat on pick of last summer's form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (1.1/1 +41%) Trolley Boy |
1.1/1(+41%) | (1) Trolley Boy 1.1/1, C&D winner who resumed his progress to defy a penalty in good style after 4 months off at Ludlow 3 weeks ago under this rider. Previous Doncaster second handicap form reads well and he can go on improving. Lots to like. Back from a break when winning Ludlow novice three week ago; repeat gives strong claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (4/1 +53%) Bucko's Boy |
4/1(+53%) | (3) Bucko's Boy 4/1, Bolted up at Newton Abbot last summer and could fare better here in re-fitted headgear after a pipe-opener at Warwick. Well held on return from a break but better can be expected with cheekpieces back on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (12/1 +14%) Cousu Main |
12/1(+14%) | (5) Cousu Main 12/1, Dual Uttoxeter winner who has struggled the last twice but this looks easier in first-time cheekpieces. Easy Uttoxeter winner in January but well beaten twice since; cheekpieces go on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (11/1 +8%) Glimpse Of Gold |
11/1(+8%) | (6) Glimpse Of Gold 11/1, Veteran recorded hat-trick in small fields last summer and offered more than for a while at Plumpton 6 weeks ago. Could be interesting if more positive tactics are the order of the day. Not much in recent starts but now on a tempting mark if the ability is still intact. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (7.5/1 -25%) No Risk With Lou |
7.5/1(-25%) | (2) No Risk With Lou 7.5/1, Winning pointer who made a successful hurdling debut at Southwell in November, though was fortunate on the day (left clear last). Better effort second time up behind Trolley Boy at Ludlow 3 weeks ago and can do better, although suspect he'll need a stiffer test. Ground to make up with Trolley Boy on Ludlow form but might get closer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (28/1 -27%) Ten Ten Twenty |
28/1(-27%) | (9) Ten Ten Twenty 28/1, C&D maiden hurdle winner last summer but little show since. Won C&D maiden event last August but hasn't achieved much in handicaps since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (8) (9/1 +10%) The Grey Falco |
9/1(+10%) | (8) The Grey Falco 9/1, Dual hurdles winner who has been struggling for a while although he had excuses back in this sphere latest. On a good mark. Chance ended when hampered on return to hurdling latest; others have less to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
TROLLEY BOY, who won a novices' hurdle with plenty in hand at Ludlow three weeks ago, looks the most appealing of this bunch and seems progressive enough to shrug aside the burden of top weight back in handicap company. Lucky Lover Boy has won seven of his 24 previous starts over hurdles and is feared most on his first start back since November, while Dasher Riley has previous course experience and is another taken seriously on debut for a new yard.
TROLLEY BOY won well back from 4 months off at Ludlow and could have plenty more to offer so he's fancied to go in again having scored here last summer. Bucko's Boy and Glimpse of Gold are a couple of the dangers.
Plenty of these have chances but the most obvious contender is TROLLEY BOY.

1st (5) (25/1 +0%) Baikal |
25/1(+0%) | (5) Baikal 25/1, Fair maiden on the Flat (stays 1m, ran poorly last week). Well held on hurdles debut at Worcester in March and not a guaranteed stayer. Tongue tie goes on. 0-9 on the Flat and he struggled in his only previous hurdle run in March; opposable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (1/1 +33%) Moonshine Spirit |
1/1(+33%) | (3) Moonshine Spirit 1/1, In the frame on all 3 bumper starts and made a sound start to his hurdle career when fourth of 12 in maiden at Chepstow in February. Not so good at Kempton 10 weeks on but remains with potential. Has shown promise in both his hurdle runs and looks a leading contender for in-form yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (9/1 +25%) Splashing Wave |
9/1(+25%) | (8) Splashing Wave 9/1, Modest form in bumpers, again ran below the level of debut at Market Rasen last time. Hurdles debut. Signs of ability in bumpers and she needs watching in market on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (5/1 -82%) Extraordinary Man |
5/1(-82%) | (1) Extraordinary Man 5/1, Fair maiden over hurdles (twice placed during 2021/22). Has failed to complete over fences the last twice, unseating in soft fashion early at Ludlow last week. Respected back hurdling in first-time headgear. 0-13 and has fell/unseated over fences last twice but he's key player on best hurdles form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (20/1 +20%) Jean Pierre |
20/1(+20%) | (2) Jean Pierre 20/1, Signs of ability but might be one for the longer term/handicaps over jumps. Well held in both bumpers and was a remote fourth of five on hurdling debut at Huntingdon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (150/1 -436%) The Swede |
150/1(-436%) | (9) The Swede 150/1, Great Pretender mare. Half-sister to fairly useful hurdler Thibault and fair 2½m hurdle winner Rapaport. Makes some appeal on paper and starts out in a thin maiden. Has had wind op. Has already had wind surgery and is best watched on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (3.33/1 +5%) Trick Of The Tail |
3.33/1(+5%) | (4) Trick Of The Tail 3.33/1, Half-brother to 7 winners, including smart hurdler/top-class chaser Dodging Bullets. Fair in bumpers but didn't get very far on hurdling debut at Bangor in October, albeit departing through no fault of his own (later found to be lame). Could do better. Well-related type who should have a future over hurdles; respected on his return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (40/1 -150%) Chelsea Annie |
40/1(-150%) | (10) Chelsea Annie 40/1, From the family of smart hurdler/useful chaser (2m-21f winner) Quazar. Modest handicapper on Flat (stays 11f), not disgraced last time. Just 1-20 on the Flat and was held off a basement mark last time; now makes hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (28/1 -100%) Clover Pass |
28/1(-100%) | (6) Clover Pass 28/1, Half-sister to fairly useful hurdler and better effort in bumpers here first time up 11 months ago. Work to do now hurdling. Well held in two bumpers here last summer and is best watched on this switch to hurdling. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MOONSHINE SPIRIT showed promise in both previous starts over hurdles and, given this looks a tad easier than either of those contests, this could be a good time to side with the Fergal O'Brien-trained gelding. Trick Of The Tail was badly hampered when he fell at the first on his hurdles debut in October and is hardly overfaced for his return to action. He shades the vote for the forecast slot over Splashing Wave, who is open to improvement now obstacles are in the way.
This won't take much winning and EXTRAORDINARY MAN is worth another chance back hurdling fitted with headgear. Moonshine Spirit and Trick of The Tail are feared.
The vote goes to MOONSHINE SPIRIT (nap), who has shaped with promise in both his hurdle runs including in a better race at Kempton.

16/1(+36%) | (6) Elusive Enemy 16/1, Just poor form in bumpers and (hooded) beat only one on his hurdles debut in 2m Ludlow novice 21 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time. No progress in his four runs so far and he needs a tongue-tie to make a difference. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (1.75/1 +65%) Satono Japan |
1.75/1(+65%) | (5) Satono Japan 1.75/1, Fairly useful handicapper at best on Flat (stays 1½m) for Sir Michael Stoute but offered little when sixth of 11 in novice hurdle at Kempton (16f, good to soft) on NH debut 16 days ago. Lots more is required. Useful on the Flat and he should have a future at this discipline; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (200/1 -203%) Autumn Blaze |
200/1(-203%) | (7) Autumn Blaze 200/1, No promise in Hereford bumpers and down the field in novices at Ludlow and Worcester sent hurdling. Others are preferred. Has shown little at massive prices in two bumpers and two hurdle runs since December. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (8/1 -60%) Emanate |
8/1(-60%) | (1) Emanate 8/1, Poor maiden on the Flat. Cheekpieces on, set a lot to do when fourth of 9 in 2m novice hurdle (125/1) at Taunton on NH debut 34 days ago. Can build on it. Very modest maiden on the Flat and he struggled on his hurdling debut last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (3.5/1 -40%) Harry Gulliver |
3.5/1(-40%) | (2) Harry Gulliver 3.5/1, 100/1, hinted at promise when fifth of 14 in novice hurdle at Chepstow (16f, good) on hurdles bow 19 days ago. Should take a step forward so merits serious consideration. Encouraging hurdle debut at Chepstow and he should know more this time; key player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (33/1 +18%) Black Sam Vicki |
33/1(+18%) | (8) Black Sam Vicki 33/1, Ran to a modest level on the second of 2 bumper starts but has made no impact in a trio of maiden hurdles. Has struggled in all three hurdle runs and needs a transformation back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (9/1 -170%) Prince Of Newton |
9/1(-170%) | (4) Prince Of Newton 9/1, Native Ruler gelding. Dam maiden on Flat (stayed 1m). In good hands for his hurdling debut but he was a tailed-off fourth in points in April. Didn't show much in four points and needs a transformation on his rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (12/1 -140%) Theatrical Light |
12/1(-140%) | (9) Theatrical Light 12/1, Runner-up sole start in Irish points but only eleventh in bumper (20/1) at Huntingdon on NH debut 142 days ago. Since had a wind op so not discounted on her hurdles debut. Tongue strap on for 1st time too. Had wind op but she has something to prove now switched to hurdling after another absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HARRY GULLIVER showed glimpses of promise when fifth on his hurdling bow at Chepstow last month and the Alex Hales-trained five-year-old can shed the maiden tag at the second time of asking. Harry Cobden boasts an impressive strike-rate at this venue and his ride, Emanate, may be able to build on her first effort over hurdles when fourth at Taunton last time out. Prince Of Newton is another to consider.
Most of these come with question marks against them so this looks a good opportunity for HARRY GULLIVER to build on his Chepstow debut fifth and open his account. Taunton-fourth Emanate could also take a step forward and rates the chief threat ahead of hurdling-debutante Theatrical Light, who returns after breathing surgery.
This looks tricky but HARRY GULLIVER made an encouraging start over hurdles at Chepstow last month and he gets the vote.

1st (12) (50/1 +0%) Stripe Of Honour |
50/1(+0%) | (12) Stripe Of Honour 50/1, Caused a major surprise (80/1) from 9 lb out of the weights when scoring at Worcester (23f) in July. Fair efforts the next twice but heavy defeat final start in October. Won here last July back lacks recent match practice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/1 +21%) Kapitaliste |
11/1(+21%) | (6) Kapitaliste 11/1, Still 6 lb above last winning mark but looks to be finding his feet again following a break, sticking to his task when mid-field at Exeter last month. Competitively weighted granted a return to best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (80/1 -60%) Deer Hunter |
80/1(-60%) | (11) Deer Hunter 80/1, Modest form over hurdles for Harry Whittington in 2020/21, but has gone the wrong way in 4 starts for his current yard. Has gone totally the wrong way for current yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (3/1 +25%) Masterdream |
3/1(+25%) | (2) Masterdream 3/1, Won a brace of C&D handicaps around this time last year. Didn't look totally straightforward back on the level at Bath last month but that should ensure he's spot on for this fitness-wise. 2-3 over C&D, including a success in this race last year; respected back here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (3.5/1 +71%) Betty's Belle |
3.5/1(+71%) | (8) Betty's Belle 3.5/1, Fair bumper winner. Below that level over hurdles (remote second of 4 at Ludlow in October) but still early days in handicaps. Interesting back on better ground; still open to improvement in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (4.5/1 -64%) Independence |
4.5/1(-64%) | (1) Independence 4.5/1, Fair bumper winner who matched the pick of his hurdles form starting out for Dr Newland when runner-up at Plumpton 3 weeks ago. Big player here with promise of more to come for this yard. Close second at Plumpton on debut for new stable; looks poised to strike. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (9/1 +0%) Ranco |
9/1(+0%) | (5) Ranco 9/1, Out of sorts for David Pipe to end 2021 but capitalised on a falling mark for new yard at Newton Abbot (16.8f) in July. Largely acquitted himself well in defeat since and should give another good account back from a break. Possibilities on reappearance, having shown he's effective fresh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (10/1 +9%) If I Say |
10/1(+9%) | (10) If I Say 10/1, Belatedly off the mark at Worcester (20f) in September but below that level in 3 subsequent starts, switched to fences when last seen on Boxing Day. Sole hurdles win came over C&D and she was fresh on that occasion too. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (50/1 -127%) Megaudais Speed |
50/1(-127%) | (3) Megaudais Speed 50/1, Proved game when doubling career tally at Wincanton (21.3f) in March of last year. First start/yard debut effort has to go down as disappointing at Wincanton (19.8f) 2 months ago however, and this should reveal more. Cheekpieces on first time. Achieved nothing on debut for new trainer; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (5.5/1 +45%) Student Chap |
5.5/1(+45%) | (4) Student Chap 5.5/1, Yet to build on hurdle debut fourth at Worcester in December, including on handicap debut last month. In excellent hands but he needs to raise his game. Possible improver back down in trip on second handicap attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (12/1 -50%) Hillsin |
12/1(-50%) | (9) Hillsin 12/1, Modest maiden hurdler for Gavin Cromwell. Low-key start for current yard but down in the weights and much more like it when third at Exeter last month. Now looks interesting. Maiden who holds each-way claims if backing up latest effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (28/1 -155%) Flintstone |
28/1(-155%) | (7) Flintstone 28/1, Made a winning start over hurdles for current stable at Stratford in August but efforts in handicaps hardly brimming with promise. Hopes rest on step up in trip. Hopes of improvement are pinned on the new trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
INDEPENDENCE has been edging closer to a first victory over obstacles and the seven-year-old was narrowly denied when runner-up on stable debut at Plumpton last month. The Dr Richard Newland-trained gelding has only been raised 1lb for that effort and gets the nod to go one better in this contest. Masterdream hasn't been seen over hurdles since landing the spoils at this venue in June and he rates the most immediate danger. Ranco was a consistent customer last year and completes the shortlist.
Having dropped a long way in the weights following a quiet start for his new yard, HILLSIN showed a lot more when third in a big-field handicap at Exeter a month ago and is now of major interest. Independence made a good start for Dr Newland and is feared most, with Ranco another to consider back from a break.
Bumper winner INDEPENDENCE is taken to build on his latest effort and open his hurdles account. Masterdream is feared most.
Ths is the racecard key.
