1st (1) (2.5/1 +17%) Wouldubewell |
2.5/1(+17%) | (1) Wouldubewell 2.5/1, Fairly useful hurdler who improved to score twice at up to 26f during novice chase campaign. Better than bare result first 2 starts this season but recent exploits have been well below par, last of 4 in mares' handicap at Warwick (3m) 6 weeks ago. Mark continues to ease at least.
2nd (3) (1.25/1 +9%) Shirocco's Dream |
1.25/1(+9%) | (3) Shirocco's Dream 1.25/1, Successful twice (at up to 20f) over hurdles last term and perfect start over fences with assured round of jumping to land 4-runner mares' handicap at Huntingdon (23.6f) in February. Probably best excused subsequent Taunton run (slipped after fourth) and definite chance here.
|PU| (2) (1.88/1 -25%) Emmpressive Lady |
1.88/1(-25%) | (2) Emmpressive Lady 1.88/1, 4-time hurdle winner who left previous chase exploits behind when landing 5-runner Bangor handicap (3m, soft) 11 days ago, length ahead and asserting when left clear last. 3 lb higher mark shouldn't prevent her going well again. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
EMMPRESSIVE LADY likes a good test of stamina and she looks the pick of the trio set to face the starter. The forecast going should ideally suit the Sue Gardner-trained mare and she is is a strong fancy to follow up after her wide-margin success off 3lb lower in a similar race at Bangor last month. Wouldubewell has faced stiffer tests recently but today's ease in grade can see her in a better light, while Shirocco's Dream has a bit to prove back up in trip.
A tricky small-field affair and it may pay to side with SHIROCCO'S DREAM. Probably best excused her Taunton run last month, she'd previously impressed with her jumping when scoring on chase debut at Huntingdon in February and it would come as no surprise to see her bounce back. Easy Bangor winner Emmpressive Lady can emerge as the chief threat.
Huntingdon winner SHIROCCO'S DREAM can gain a tactical advantage if allowed an uncontested lead and might be the answer.

1st (5) (5.5/1 +27%) Oscars Moonshine |
5.5/1(+27%) | (5) Oscars Moonshine 5.5/1, Completed a hat-trick sent handicapping in October 2020 (last win here). Seemingly had his problems since, though, and hasn't troubled the judge in 4 starts this term. Tried in cheekpieces now.
2nd (4) (16/1 -33%) Enjoy Your Life |
16/1(-33%) | (4) Enjoy Your Life 16/1, Fairly useful ex-French winning hurdler but made little impact on UK debut for new connections at Warwick last month.
3rd (9) (4.5/1 +55%) Great Ocean |
4.5/1(+55%) | (9) Great Ocean 4.5/1, Sole Rules success came over hurdles here last year for Philip Hobbs. Held back by jumping over fences for new yard but was running creditably when unseating late on back in this sphere at Doncaster last month and could be a player.
4th (7) (7/1 -17%) Cluain Aodha |
7/1(-17%) | (7) Cluain Aodha 7/1, Career best when winning 10-runner handicap hurdle at Warwick (19f, soft) 14 days ago, pushed out. 6 lb rise fair and is one for the shortlist.
5th (10) (4/1 +33%) Hatos |
4/1(+33%) | (10) Hatos 4/1, Made a winning start over hurdles at Chepstow in January 2022 but has been rather underwhelming since, including over fences. However, lack of stamina an excuse back in this sphere latest and top amateur booked now returned to more suitable trip. Engaged 3.30 Fontwell Tuesday.
6th (3) (10/1 +38%) Longshanks |
10/1(+38%) | (3) Longshanks 10/1, Off the mark over fences in handicap at Exeter in March of last year but not gone on from that and ran poorly back in this sphere latest.
7th (8) (4/1 -14%) Caspers Court |
4/1(-14%) | (8) Caspers Court 4/1, Backed up his C&D victory in February by easily taking 9-runner handicap hurdle (3/1) at Exeter (21.6f, good to soft) 26 days ago. Raised 7 lb since but looks sure to go well again.
8th (2) (7/1 +22%) Seelotmorebusiness |
7/1(+22%) | (2) Seelotmorebusiness 7/1, Bumper/maiden hurdle winner in 2020 who scored on return from 15-month absence at Huntingdon (20.7f) on Boxing Day. Disappointed here since, though, and bit to prove now.
9th (1) (22/1 -83%) Good News |
22/1(-83%) | (1) Good News 22/1, Won 5 times in 2022, the fifth coming at Kempton (24.5f) in November. Not at his best when fading into fourth at Fontwell on Boxing Day and given a break since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Following a C&D success, CASPERS COURT proved his mettle when he ran away with a class 5 handicap hurdle at Exeter 26 days ago and he could be hard to peg back again despite a 7lb higher mark. This is a deeper race as Cluain Aodha arrives in good form and has to be respected, but Good News is of more interest dropping back in trip and he may be the main threat to the selection.
This can go to CASPERS COURT, who arrives at the top of his game and remains feasibly treated. Cluain Aodha and Hatos can also make their presence felt.
The cheekpieces are taken to help OSCARS MOONSHINE cash in a competitive mark, ahead of the hat-trick seeking Caspars Court.

1st (9) (7.5/1 +77%) My Rockstar |
7.5/1(+77%) | (9) My Rockstar 7.5/1, After 9 months off, went with a glimmer of promise when mid-field in handicap at Taunton (18.2f) on chase debut in December. However, failed to build on that effort at the same C&D next time and he remains with little form.
2nd (5) (2/1 +11%) Hard Frost |
2/1(+11%) | (5) Hard Frost 2/1, Bred for chasing and improved on his hurdles form at the first attempt over fences when runner-up in handicap at Market Rasen (17.2f) 15 days ago, just failing. Open to improvement and can get off the mark back up in trip.
3rd (4) (7/1 -8%) Begin The Luck |
7/1(-8%) | (4) Begin The Luck 7/1, Twenty runs since his last win in May 2021 but has made the frame on his last 2 starts, only narrowly denied when runner-up in handicap hurdle at this course (19.8f) last month. Task is build on his recent form as he now goes over fences.
4th (8) (5.5/1 +31%) Broadoak |
5.5/1(+31%) | (8) Broadoak 5.5/1, Lightly-raced 8-y-o who has been going the right way sent chasing this season, a late mistake proving costly when runner-up in handicap over C&D a month ago. Can give another good account.
5th (2) (2/1 -14%) Ithaka |
2/1(-14%) | (2) Ithaka 2/1, Didn't show much over hurdles for Ronan McNally in Ireland and on first 3 starts for his current yard. However, dropped in grade, justified strong support when landing handicap at this course (21.4f) 9 days ago. Not taken lightly on chase debut.
|PU| (6) (20/1 +20%) Toad Of Toad Hall |
20/1(+20%) | (6) Toad Of Toad Hall 20/1, Didn't need to improve when off the mark in 3-runner handicap chase at Fontwell (3m2f) in June. Off 5 months following that success and below form on his 3 outings since, well held at Taunton when last seen in December. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Doubts can be cast over all of these for one reason or another and, with that in mind, it might be worth chancing that HARD FROST can cope with a 4lb higher mark which was dished out after his near-miss at Market Rasen last month. The gelding handled an extended 2m5f well enough when he posted another good second at Fontwell three starts back, which bodes well for today's test. Begin The Luck and Ithaka look the pick of the rest.
HARD FROST bettered his hurdles form at the first attempt over fences when runner-up at Market Rasen 15 days ago, closing all the way to the line, and he is open to progress now back up in trip. The 6-y-o is taken to see off the challenge of Ithaka, who showed improved form when scoring over hurdles here last time, with Broadoak the pick of the remainder.
Harry Derham's HARD FROST shaped as though this longer trip will suit when going very close on his recent chasing debut.

1st (1) (0.5/1 +50%) Boom Boom |
0.5/1(+50%) | (1) Boom Boom 0.5/1, Fairly useful form when placed both starts in bumpers last season but he came in only eighth on his hurdling bow in 19f Ascot novice in November. Held in fourth when falling at Chepstow in February but this is a lot easier down in trip.
2nd (3) (25/1 -56%) Dunstall Rambler |
25/1(-56%) | (3) Dunstall Rambler 25/1, Walk In The Park gelding who shaped like a stayer on his sole outing in bumpers. Low-key start over hurdles and now hooded.
3rd (5) (14/1 -75%) Gieves |
14/1(-75%) | (5) Gieves 14/1, Shirocco gelding who stepped up plenty on his bumper debut effort when finishing fifth in 15-runner event at Ludlow (15.7f) in November. Still in touch when unseating 3 out on hurdles bow at Southwell but heavy defeat at Huntingdon last week needs casting aside.
4th (4) (3.5/1 -75%) Dylan's Double |
3.5/1(-75%) | (4) Dylan's Double 3.5/1, Mid-field in a bumper in 2021 but offered something to work on when fourth on Exeter hurdle debut 14 months later. Not so good at Taunton since and already looks in need of further but has found a weak race here.
5th (8) (18/1 +36%) Starvidov |
18/1(+36%) | (8) Starvidov 18/1, No real impact in a brace of bumpers.
6th (6) (33/1 -32%) Gun Runner Cash |
33/1(-32%) | (6) Gun Runner Cash 33/1, Perth bumper winner for Gordon Elliott a year ago but all downhill since, not taking to hurdling.
7th (10) (7.5/1 +63%) Queens Fortune |
7.5/1(+63%) | (10) Queens Fortune 7.5/1, Third on her only start in Irish points but little to get excited about under Rules so far.
8th (2) (250/1 -67%) Bright Focus |
250/1(-67%) | (2) Bright Focus 250/1, Little show in 3 starts.
9th (7) (200/1 -203%) Henzo Des Boullats |
200/1(-203%) | (7) Henzo Des Boullats 200/1, £10,000 3-y-o, Saddler Maker gelding. Dam ran once over hurdles in France. No promise on hurdles debut 3 weeks ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BOOM BOOM has struggled so far over hurdles and failed to complete when last seen at Chepstow. That said, the five-year-old could still play a leading role in a race of this nature if putting in a clear round of jumping. Dylan's Double remains unexposed and is likely to be in the mix, while Queens Fortune and Gun Runner Cash are the pick of the remainder.
Not a lot of depth to this at all and BOOM BOOM is the way to go now faced with by far his easiest assignment over hurdles. Dylan's Double looks in need of a longer trip but is clearly the biggest danger to the selection on what he's shown.
It's unlikely we've seen the best of BOOM BOOM, who has make a shaky start to his hurdling career but looked promising in bumpers.

1st (3) (2.5/1 +58%) Diamond Egg |
2.5/1(+58%) | (3) Diamond Egg 2.5/1, Opened his account in bumpers at Huntingdon in May but has proved to be a disappointment over hurdles so far. Tongue strap on 1st time.
2nd (8) (7/1 +42%) West End Boy |
7/1(+42%) | (8) West End Boy 7/1, Westerner gelding who proved easy to back and shaped like a longer-term project when sixth in an 8-runner Sandown novice on debut. In the process of showing similar form when falling 2 out there next time.
3rd (9) (100/1 -52%) My Lady Phoenix |
100/1(-52%) | (9) My Lady Phoenix 100/1, Well held in 2 bumpers and maiden hurdle.
4th (6) (4/1 -14%) Royal Max |
4/1(-14%) | (6) Royal Max 4/1, Comfortably held in 2 bumpers in the first half of 2022 but he was prominent in the betting on both occasions and showed an aptitude for hurdling after 10 months off when fifth of 15 in Ludlow maiden 6 weeks ago, not unduly punished. Should progress.
5th (7) (16/1 -78%) Smart Casual |
16/1(-78%) | (7) Smart Casual 16/1, Black Sam Bellamy gelding who shaped well when fifth of 11 in bumper at Ffos Las but well held switched to hurdles at Taunton 16 days ago.
6th (1) (40/1 -21%) Alfie Sharp |
40/1(-21%) | (1) Alfie Sharp 40/1, £9,000 3-y-o, Scorpion gelding. Dam unraced. Best watched.
|PU| (4) (1.1/1 -21%) Gallopade |
1.1/1(-21%) | (4) Gallopade 1.1/1, Schiaparelli gelding who won both bumper starts last season and left hurdles debut effort behind when third in Ludlow novice. Improved again when close second in similar event there 2 weeks ago and is the pick on form on that effort.
|PU| (5) (150/1 -355%) Hoodlum |
150/1(-355%) | (5) Hoodlum 150/1, £15,000 3-y-o, Aizavoski gelding. Dam (h97) made frame only start over hurdles. No promise when last of 13 in bumper at Chepstow on NH debut 123 days ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
In a moderate event it is hard to oppose GALLOPADE, who has improved with every start over hurdles and the form of his narrow defeat at Ludlow a couple of weeks ago puts him well clear here. Diamond Egg was well held when third at Newbury last time but may improve for a first-time tongue-tie. West End Boy and Royal Max are others who merit a place on the shortlist.
Dual-bumper winner GALLOPADE is getting the hang of things over hurdles now and this looks a good opportunity. Royal Max showed something to work on when fifth in a Ludlow maiden 6 weeks ago and is the obvious threat in what looks a weak maiden.
The one with least to prove is GALLOPADE, who was only collared in the closing stages by the warm favourite at Ludlow a fortnight ago.

1st (6) (2.75/1 +17%) Puffin Bay |
2.75/1(+17%) | (6) Puffin Bay 2.75/1, C&D winner who has been pretty disappointing in handicaps for Oliver Sherwood but lurks on a handy mark starting out for an up-and-coming yard. Tongue strap on for 1st time and market support would look interesting on first run since July.
2nd (1) (3.5/1 -17%) Lady Adare |
3.5/1(-17%) | (1) Lady Adare 3.5/1, Made all in a bumper for Micky Hammond and completed straightforward tasks when winning first 3 starts over hurdles in 2021/22. Lost her unbeaten record with a bit of a whimper on her return at Taunton in January and has had a breathing operation since.
3rd (8) (2.75/1 +45%) Petticoat Lucy |
2.75/1(+45%) | (8) Petticoat Lucy 2.75/1, C&D winner who bounced back to form when fourth at Fontwell in February and backed that up in a far better-quality contest when third at Chepstow (2m) last time. Well worth considering back against her own sex.
4th (2) (3.5/1 +71%) No No Tonic |
3.5/1(+71%) | (2) No No Tonic 3.5/1, Likeable mare who enhanced an excellent course record when scoring easily over C&D on Boxing Day. Fine runner-up efforts at Chepstow next 2 outings but found her run of good form coming to an abrupt halt at Fakenham last time. Bounce back needed.
5th (5) (11/1 +31%) Amelia's Dance |
11/1(+31%) | (5) Amelia's Dance 11/1, Added to an excellent record at Taunton when getting off the mark for the season there in December. However, needs to bounce back from a couple of lesser efforts.
6th (3) (12/1 +14%) Addosh |
12/1(+14%) | (3) Addosh 12/1, Proved better than ever when recording a third success over hurdles at Southwell in June. Held in fifth when falling last at Uttoxeter next time and then suffered a tack problem at Hereford. Folded on most recent Flat outing, so returns to this code with a bit to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
LADY ADARE may have disappointed on her return at Taunton in January but she remains a talented mare, who was unbeaten before that. She can bounce back to winning ways for her in-form connections, while Amelia's Dance and Petticoat Lucy are capable of being in the shake-up as well. The former is feared most on the basis that she was beaten less than a length into second off this mark at Taunton three starts ago.
PUFFIN BAY has been a bit disappointing so far in handicaps, but she lurks on a handy mark setting out for a progressive new yard following a break, so could easily revive. Petticoat Lucy looks to be coming to the boil again and is feared most.
Harry Derham has made an impressive start to his training career and C&D winner PUFFIN BAY (nap) may provide him with further success.

1st (5) (2.5/1 +9%) Triple Trade |
2.5/1(+9%) | (5) Triple Trade 2.5/1, Runner-up on both completed starts this term and looked sure to have a say in the finish when unseating late in handicap chase at Kempton (18f, heavy, 5/2) 18 days ago. Has to be taken seriously.
2nd (7) (3.6/1 -3%) Lazy Sunday |
3.6/1(-3%) | (7) Lazy Sunday 3.6/1, Completed hat-trick in emphatic fashion when winning 9-runner handicap chase at Ffos Las (20.9f, good to soft) 31 days ago. 9 lb rise may not be enough to stop her winning again with further progress likely.
3rd (3) (6/1 -20%) Dreaming Blue |
6/1(-20%) | (3) Dreaming Blue 6/1, Supported in the market and produced a career best when winning 8-runner handicap chase at Doncaster (20.5f, good to soft, 11/2) 19 days ago, always holding on. Merits consideration from 5 lb higher mark.
4th (8) (12/1 +0%) Native Robin |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Native Robin 12/1, 5-time C&D winner, including 3 times last season. Generally below best this season, though did produce his best effort of the term when third of 5 in handicap chase at Stratford (22.6f, soft, 17/2) 23 days ago. Will need to take another step forward.
5th (6) (5/1 +29%) Flagrant Delitiep |
5/1(+29%) | (6) Flagrant Delitiep 5/1, C&D winner last season. Generally below form this term though, a couple of uncharacteristic mistakes no help when last of 6 at Ludlow last month. Blinkers/tongue strap now applied.
6th (4) (6/1 +45%) Pasvolsky |
6/1(+45%) | (4) Pasvolsky 6/1, Cashed in a career-low mark in 3-runner chase at Plumpton in October before producing a rather laboured effort back over hurdles on his next start. Back from a break and others make more appeal.
7th (9) (50/1 -213%) Fanzio |
50/1(-213%) | (9) Fanzio 50/1, Was off the bridle a long way out but plugged on gamely to land 10-runner handicap chase at Taunton (16f, heavy, 12/1) 23 days ago. Back up in trip. First run for yard after leaving Richard Hobson. Others more persuasive.
|PU| (1) (7/1 -27%) Mongol Emperor |
7/1(-27%) | (1) Mongol Emperor 7/1, Dropped in the weights and justified strong support when winning 6-runner handicap chase at Doncaster (19.1f, good) 33 days ago. Still well treated on hurdles form and is respected for all this contest looks deeper. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LAZY SUNDAY is in the form of her life at present and a 9lb rise for an easy win at Ffos Las may not be enough to stop the nine-year-old bringing up the four-timer. Mongol Emperor appeals as her main danger, having bounced back to form with a decisive success at Doncaster last month. Dreaming Blue and Triple Trade are entitled to be thereabouts too.
LAZY SUNDAY tanked along when completing the hat-trick at Ffos Las last time and appeals as one who can go on to better things again as a chaser, so is fancied to extend her winning sequence. Triple Trade might be one who needs plenty to drop right but he arrives after a trio of positive efforts and merits respect, whilst Dreaming Blue also can't be ruled out after his Doncaster success.
Thriving mare Lazy Sunday is respected but TRIPLE TRADE ran very well in defeat on consecutive starts in February and gets the nod.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
