|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (1.62/1 +7%) Tantalus |
1.62/1(+7%) | (4) Tantalus 1.62/1, 3/1, good second of 10 in handicap at Catterick (6f, good to firm) 12 days ago. Cheekpieces on first time and expected to be bang there from the same mark. In-form maiden; good second at Catterick most recently; clear possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (10/1 +38%) Bryce |
10/1(+38%) | (8) Bryce 10/1, Eighth of 15 in handicap (40/1) at Redcar (7f, good to soft) 15 days ago, hampered. Back down in trip. Something to find on handicap form but this drop back in trip may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (40/1 -60%) Made Of Lir |
40/1(-60%) | (10) Made Of Lir 40/1, Latest win at Lingfield in January. Eighth of 10 in handicap (33/1) at Catterick (6f, good to firm) 12 days ago. Dual AW scorer for previous yard; poor form for current stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (20/1 -186%) Arnie Angell |
20/1(-186%) | (5) Arnie Angell 20/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 11/2, good sixth of 10 in nursery at Southwell (5f). Off 8 months (and gelded). First run for yard after leaving David Brown and more needed on return. 0-4 last term for David Brown; follow the market signals. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (3.33/1 +61%) Rwenearlytheredad |
3.33/1(+61%) | (7) Rwenearlytheredad 3.33/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Sixth of 9 in maiden (25/1) at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 25 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Maiden/novice form has received several boosts; interesting on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (14/1 -75%) Lola's Moment |
14/1(-75%) | (3) Lola's Moment 14/1, Fifth of 8 in nursery (18/1) at Catterick (5f, good to soft). Off 8 months but mark is a fair one based on pick of juvenile form. 0-8 as a juvenile; market may prove best guide on seasonal debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (14/1 -17%) Glory Call |
14/1(-17%) | (6) Glory Call 14/1, Encouraging reappearance when third at Newcastle but switched to turf and in nothing like the same form when last of 7 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good) 22 days ago. Close third at Newcastle two starts ago; fighting chance on that effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (8/1 +0%) Al Najada |
8/1(+0%) | (1) Al Najada 8/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 18/1 and tongue strap on for first time, good fifth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 35 days ago. Eased 2 lb back on turf. Encouraging handicap debut last time; may well build on that effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (25/1 -150%) Turbo Tiger |
25/1(-150%) | (9) Turbo Tiger 25/1, 9/1, bit below form fifth of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (5.1f) 12 days ago. Back on turf. Still a maiden but holds places claims on the pick of his form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
TANTALUS was four lengths clear of the third when runner-up at Catterick over 6f last time and, off the same mark with the addition of first-time cheekpieces, he looks to be the one to side with. Lola's Moment is considered on her return to action off the lowest mark yet in her young career to date, while Arnie Angell makes his first start for the David Griffiths stable and is also of interest.
Not a strong race, so TANTALUS, who was runner-up from the same mark at Catterick, looks to have been found a great chance to get off the mark. Al Najada and Rwenearlytheredad are not yet exposed and are a couple of potential threats.
With strong claims on recent form, TANTALUS could well open his account. Rwenearlytheredad is second choice.

1st (6) (1.25/1 +88%) Mirrie Dancers |
1.25/1(+88%) | (6) Mirrie Dancers 1.25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 28/1, respectable fifth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f). Off 15 months. First run for yard after leaving Micky Hammond and market may guide as to well-being. Fair AW run when last out, but perhaps best watched on stable debut after 472-day break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (11/1 +8%) The Resdev Way |
11/1(+8%) | (8) The Resdev Way 11/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. Last of 11 in handicap (11/1) at Wolverhampton (16.6f) 42 days ago. Back down in trip switched back to turf. Engaged 5.00 Thirsk Monday. Prolific winner but not in best of form lately and well beaten at Thirsk yesterday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (2.25/1 +44%) Glory And Honour |
2.25/1(+44%) | (3) Glory And Honour 2.25/1, Latest win at Wolverhampton in May. Fifth of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford City (13.3f, 12/1) 12 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Can make presence felt back on turf. Below par last time (AW); interesting back on turf on ground that should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (3.5/1 +13%) Ask Peter |
3.5/1(+13%) | (7) Ask Peter 3.5/1, 5/1 and cheekpieces on for first time, last of 6 in handicap at Ayr (13.1f, good to firm) 14 days ago. That was clearly disappointing but headgear quickly discarded and she can bounce back. Poor run in headgear latest but chance on earlier form at 1m5f for A Young. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (20/1 +0%) Grifter |
20/1(+0%) | (1) Grifter 20/1, Last of 7 in handicap (33/1) at Ripon (9.8f, heavy) 25 days ago. Significantly up in trip on what represents a drop in class but he has questions to answer at present. 1-18; well beaten on reappearance (1m2f, soft); needs to improve for this trip/ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (40/1 -300%) National Charter |
40/1(-300%) | (5) National Charter 40/1, Pulled up in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (20.3f, good, 200/1) 21 days ago. Cheekpieces on first time making Flat debut for this stable. Third over 1m6f in 2022; bought for 16,000gns July; not shown much since; headgear tried. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
NATIONAL CHARTER hasn't been seen on the Flat since April last year, when she was a very respectable third at this track over 1m6f, and if she could bring that level of form to the table, the four-year-old could go very well. Glory And Honour is capable of getting involved off his current mark as he returns to the turf, while Absolute Ruler is another to consider.
ABSOLUTE RULER got it right at the second attempt over hurdles and now he's back in some sort of form he looks ready to cash in on what is a lowly Flat mark compared to what he used to be capable of. Ask Peter goes without headgear this time and is certainly in the right hands to bounce back, with Glory And Honour likely to be plugging on.
In what looks a weak handicap the well-handicapped CRAFTER is taken to win his first race for his present yard by beating Ask Peter.

3.33/1(+5%) | (3) Hug A Tree 3.33/1, €50,000 yearling, 62,000 gns 2-y-o, Mehmas filly. Half-sister to 3 winners, including useful 11f-15f winner Durlindana and 1¼m winner Dabbous. Dam 8.6f winner who stayed 1½m. 20/1, showed plenty when third of 12 in novice at Salisbury (5f, good to firm) on debut 10 days ago. Open to improvement. Promising debut at Salisbury ten days ago; one of the main contenders. |

10/1(+9%) | (6) Ninety Nine 10/1, Foaled March 8. Dandy Man filly. Dam 2-y-o 5f/6f winner. Market should reveal expectations. First foal of a good 2yo winner for this yard; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (8/1 -7%) Defying Orders |
8/1(-7%) | (1) Defying Orders 8/1, Twice-raced filly. Fifth of 7 in maiden (4/1) at Hamilton (5f, good to firm) 18 days ago. Bit disappointing last time but may do better still. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (11/1 -22%) Kandy House |
11/1(-22%) | (4) Kandy House 11/1, Invincible Spirit filly who showed speed when third of 6 in Ripon novice (5f, soft) on debut but last of 5 at Hamilton since, probably overdoing things. Has possibilities if bouncing back to Ripon debut form (solid effort). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (66/1 -164%) Chat Up Line |
66/1(-164%) | (8) Chat Up Line 66/1, Poor form in novices at Redcar/Beverley. Modest RPRs in a couple of April races. |

Half-sister to several winners, including 1m-1¼m winner Van Huysen and winner up to 7f Moosmee. Dam winner up to 7f (2-y-o 5f winner). 28/1, eleventh of 12 in maiden at Thirsk (5f, good) on debut 17 days ago, slowly away. Down the field in 5f maiden at Thirsk. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HUG A TREE finished third at Salisbury on debut and she should have learned a lot from that first race experience. The daughter of Mehmas could be the one to beat if finding some improvement. The main danger might be Hot Front, who is related to plenty of winners and has enough speed in her pedigree to suggest she can be competitive on debut. Any market support for Rocket Money would be interesting.
HUG A TREE caught the eye when a running-on third at Salisbury 10 days ago and can find the required improvement to beat Passionately, who ran to a decent level in a newcomers race at Chantilly. All 3 debutantes need keeping an eye on, notably the speedily-bred Hot Front.
The form choice appears to be PASSIONATELY, ahead of Hug A Tree. The three newcomers have good credentials.

2.25/1(+10%) | (4) Sophia's Starlight 2.25/1, Winner at Wolverhampton on reappearance in May. 5/1, very good third of 9 in handicap at Carlisle (7.8f, good) 15 days ago. Expected to be bang there from the same mark. Suited by the switch to front-running tactics this term; open to further progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (8/1 +0%) Jazz Samba |
8/1(+0%) | (2) Jazz Samba 8/1, Winner at Beverley on reappearance in May. Seventh of 11 in handicap at Beverley (8.4f, good, 6/1) 21 days ago, left with lot to do. That effort can probably be overlooked. Off the mark at Beverley on reappearance; below par next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/1 -75%) Harriet's Angel |
7/1(-75%) | (5) Harriet's Angel 7/1, Second of 3 in maiden (8/1) at Ripon (6f, heavy) 25 days ago, no match for winner. Makes handicap debut. Must improve. Form figures of 432 reflect her steady improvement; respected on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (2.75/1 +31%) Lilikoi |
2.75/1(+31%) | (1) Lilikoi 2.75/1, Latest win at Newcastle in January. Creditable third of 11 in handicap at this C&D (good to firm, 11/2) 21 days ago, faring best of those held up. Needs treating as though still in top form and this is easier. Consistent sort who ran creditably over C&D last time; solid chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (6.5/1 +35%) Rockin Rosa |
6.5/1(+35%) | (7) Rockin Rosa 6.5/1, Respectable fourth of 15 in handicap at Redcar (7f, good to soft, 28/1) 15 days ago. Has made the frame in two of her three handicap attempts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (4.5/1 +10%) Sail On Silverbird |
4.5/1(+10%) | (3) Sail On Silverbird 4.5/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 25/1, third of 12 in minor event at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 14 days ago. Makes handicap/turf debut and mark is fair on debut run. Placed twice at novice level; bred to do better still; interesting on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (25/1 -127%) Tilt At Windmills |
25/1(-127%) | (6) Tilt At Windmills 25/1, Unable to match her juvenile form so far in 2023, below form ninth of 15 in handicap at Redcar (7f, good to soft) 15 days ago. Has regressed sharply this year; others preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SAIL ON SILVERBIRD chased home a couple of promising types when hitting the frame at Wolverhampton two weeks ago. She makes her handicap debut from a potentially lenient mark and, with the switch to turf unlikely to pose an issue, the daughter of Twirling Candy can open her account. Harriet's Angel split rivals in a three-runner contest at Ripon last month and must be of interest upped to 7f for the first time, while Sophia's Starlight appeals most of the remainder.
LILIKOI fared best of those held up when third in a deeper C&D handicap than this one 3 weeks ago so she has plenty to recommend her. Jazz Samba can be excused her Beverley run and she's a threat, along with Sophia's Starlight.
Handicap debutantes HARRIET'S ANGEL and Sail On Silverbird head the shortlist, with Sophia's Starlight third choice.

2nd (2) (3.5/1 -40%) Blue Yonder |
3.5/1(-40%) | (2) Blue Yonder 3.5/1, 2/1, career best when winning 6-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 25 days ago, readily. Did it easily there and good chance in hat-trick bid. Two from two since going beyond 8.5f, winning nicely at Beverley and Wolverhampton. |

3rd (8) (25/1 +0%) Optician |
25/1(+0%) | (8) Optician 25/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 80/1, sixth of 9 in handicap at Carlisle (7.8f, good) on return 15 days ago. Up in trip. Hard to see him winning this. Pedigree largely suggests he's not crying out for 1m2f. |

4th (6) (1.5/1 +25%) Opera Legend |
1.5/1(+25%) | (6) Opera Legend 1.5/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Gelded, second of 10 in minor event (9/4) at Catterick (7f, good) on return 22 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Makes handicap debut. Likely improver and very much one to consider. Looks the type to do well in handicaps; major player provided he stays this new trip. |

12/1(-140%) | (1) Captain Potter 12/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 6/5, fourth of 8 in maiden at Newcastle (12.4f) 32 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Needs more from his mark. May be capable of some progress now handicapping on turf; enters calculations. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
William Haggas has a good strike-rate at this venue and so it might be worth siding with OPERA LEGEND. The Night Of Thunder gelding raced exclusively over 7f across his three qualifying runs but, with a step up in trip likely to benefit, he can make a successful handicap bow. The hat-trick seeking Blue Yonder is feared most, while Captain Potter is also considered.
BLUE YONDER scored easily at Wolverhampton and could be good for the hat-trick. Opera Legend is very interesting making his handicap debut up in trip for a top yard, while Leading Company shaped well at Beverley and may have more races in him.
There could be even more to come from BLUE YONDER at this sort of distance. Opera Legend is feared most.

6.5/1(+0%) | (2) Asmund 6.5/1, Eleventh of 14 in handicap (12/1) at Thirsk (7f, heavy) 26 days ago. Yet to fire this season but lurking on a good mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
RED ASTAIRE seemed to appreciate a drop in trip when filling the runner-up spot over this distance at Redcar last month. Tim Easterby's four-year-old retains the mark from that outing and looks open to further progression here, although the reopposing Muddy Lynn (third) can give the selection plenty to think about. Ricksen returns to turf and completes the shortlist, along with Going Underground and Variety Island.
RED ASTAIRE responded really well for the fitting of cheekpieces when second at Redcar last week and has good claims from the same mark. Muddy Lynn was just behind him that day and has a race like this in her on that showing. Asmund is also worth a look.
The unexposed filly MUDDY LYNN is taken to reverse last week's Redcar form with Red Astaire. Magical Effect should also go well.

7th (1) (8.5/1 -31%) Autumn Flight |
8.5/1(-31%) | (1) Autumn Flight 8.5/1, Latest win at Brighton in May. Fifteenth of 20 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, good, 10/1) 17 days ago, poorly placed. Cheekpieces back on. Worth another chance. Close second at Leicester on debut for this yard; hindered by poor draw last time. |

8th (9) (16/1 -14%) King Of Europe |
16/1(-14%) | (9) King Of Europe 16/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Off 7 months. Tongue strap on 1st time. Could have a small race in him. 0-6 last year; fitting of tongue-tie is a possible source of improvement. |

9th (6) (6/1 +0%) Rainbow Rain |
6/1(+0%) | (6) Rainbow Rain 6/1, Bit below form fifth of 20 in handicap at Thirsk (6f, good, 22/1) 17 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Not easy to make a case for. Bit to find with Jenever on Thirsk running but still one to consider with that form solid. |

10th (7) (3/1 +65%) The Grey Lass |
3/1(+65%) | (7) The Grey Lass 3/1, Fourth of 6 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, good, 9/2) 3 days ago. Needs a revival. Balance of this year's form suggests she's set for minor honours at best. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Thank The Lord finished a decent third over this trip at Bath last month and must enter calculations off the same mark, but JENEVER looks the one to beat following a fair second over 6f at Thirsk most recently. Ben Sanderson knocks 3lb off the gelding's back, which makes him of significant interest down in trip, while Golden Prosperity and Yaahobby are others worthy of consideration.
THANK THE LORD ran well back from another break at Bath recently and could be the way to go. Jenever and Autumn Flight are respected also.
With his Thirsk effort having major substance, JENEVER (nap) holds particularly strong claims. Rainbow Rain is second choice.
Ths is the racecard key.
