1st (10) (14/1 +50%) City Derby |
14/1(+50%) | (10) City Derby 14/1, Won for Fergal O'Brien around this time last year but hasn't made much impact in 3 starts for current stable and looks opposable again.
2nd (1) (2/1 -6%) Butch |
2/1(-6%) | (1) Butch 2/1, Progressed all 3 starts over hurdles, taking another significant step forward when winning 5-runner novice hurdle at Uttoxeter (19.9f, soft) 19 days ago. Showed good attitude there and opening mark looks more than workable with further improvement expected.
3rd (6) (4/1 +20%) Hurlerontheditch |
4/1(+20%) | (6) Hurlerontheditch 4/1, Presumably not the easiest to train but he ran respectably on handicap debut when third of 10 at Haydock (18.9f, good to soft) 15 days ago and remains relatively unexposed, so no surprise to see him in the mix again.
4th (2) (5/1 -11%) Hasty Brook |
5/1(-11%) | (2) Hasty Brook 5/1, Supported in the market and returned to form to finish second of 10 in handicap hurdle at Haydock (18.9f, good to soft, 6/1) 15 days ago. Looks competitive on form.
5th (5) (8/1 +11%) Icone D'Aubrelle |
8/1(+11%) | (5) Icone D'Aubrelle 8/1, Won juvenile hurdle at Bordeaux and produced similar form in 3 runs upon joining present yard last term. Perfectly adequate start over fences when third at Ffos Las (19.4f) in February and he's respected quickly switched back to smaller obstacles (withdrawn on vet's advice last intended start).
6th (4) (22/1 +56%) Palm Beach |
22/1(+56%) | (4) Palm Beach 22/1, Flat/hurdles winner in Ireland who made a successful start for this yard in 3-runner Hexham novice last season. Step back in right direction when sixth of 9 in handicap hurdle at this course (16f, good) 145 days ago but overall profile this term remains unconvincing.
7th (9) (7.5/1 -25%) Montys Medoc |
7.5/1(-25%) | (9) Montys Medoc 7.5/1, Won at Newton Abbot in September 2021 on penultimate start for Paul Nicholls. Returns from 17-month absence on last winning mark.
8th (3) (7.5/1 +38%) Finnthemagician |
7.5/1(+38%) | (3) Finnthemagician 7.5/1, Perth bumper winner in August who would have likely followed up on Down Royal hurdles debut but for departing at the last. In frame without improving on next 2 starts and is certainly worth market check making handicap debut for new yard.
9th (8) (80/1 -100%) Batman For Ever |
80/1(-100%) | (8) Batman For Ever 80/1, Fairly useful winning hurdler/chaser at up to 2½m in France in 2021 but has offered little in 4 starts for current yard. Best avoided unless market speaks favourably. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
BUTCH shed the maiden tag at the fourth time of asking last month and it would be no surprise were the son of Kayf Tara to kick on now. Hurlerontheditch finished a creditable third at Haydock 15 days ago and he remains capable of better eased 1lb in the handicap, while market support must be noted for Finnthemagician, who makes his stable debut for the Nicky Richards team.
BUTCH looks to have been let in fairly leniently on his handicap debut and he's taken to follow up from his likeable Uttoxeter success. Hasty Brook sprang back to form at Haydock last time and heads the list of dangers, with the lightly-raced Hurlerontheditch another player.
Harry Derham is very much among the winners and MONTYS MEDOC is taken to defy a long absence on his stable debut.

1st (8) (1.88/1 -7%) Resplendent Grey |
1.88/1(-7%) | (8) Resplendent Grey 1.88/1, Looked a good prospect when landing a bumper at Market Rasen on debut in December, surging to the front from an unpromising position. Not seen to best effect when third under a penalty at Huntingdon 3 months later and must enter calculations on hurdle debut.
2nd (3) (8.5/1 -70%) Clody Flyer |
8.5/1(-70%) | (3) Clody Flyer 8.5/1, Sholokhov gelding. Dam (c86), maiden chaser, half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stays 25f) Wishing And Hoping. Off mark in Irish points at fifth attempt in December and has joined a respected yard.
3rd (13) (7.5/1 +17%) Super Stars |
7.5/1(+17%) | (13) Super Stars 7.5/1, Showed some aptitude for hurdling in a pair of juvenile events in late 2022 and ran well on his most recent Flat outing. Each-way claims.
4th (4) (9/1 +36%) Halpha Soleil |
9/1(+36%) | (4) Halpha Soleil 9/1, Successful twice in French bumpers (tongue tied second time) but went backwards from UK/stable debut when well held at Sedgefield last time.
5th (5) (25/1 -79%) Harper Valley |
25/1(-79%) | (5) Harper Valley 25/1, Leading Light gelding. Dam (c93/h120), 19f/2½m hurdle winner, sister to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler (2¼m winner) All That Remains. In front when fell last only outing in Irish points (Dec 30).
6th (10) (10/1 +44%) You Some Girl |
10/1(+44%) | (10) You Some Girl 10/1, Made a successful start in a Catterick bumper and ran to a similar level next 2 outings. However, was too free when well held at Kelso last time. Makes hurdles debut.
7th (9) (25/1 -25%) Sunshine Girl |
25/1(-25%) | (9) Sunshine Girl 25/1, Better previous efforts when second in 6-runner bumper at Down Royal (16.9f, heavy) 20 days ago but needs to step up considerably on her only previous run over hurdles.
8th (1) (33/1 +18%) Annaharvey Lad |
33/1(+18%) | (1) Annaharvey Lad 33/1, Made the frame in 2 Irish points in spring 2021 and offered something to work on when fourth of 9 in a C&D novice in early March. Went backwards at Southwell just a fortnight on, though.
9th (7) (40/1 -100%) Pats Dream |
40/1(-100%) | (7) Pats Dream 40/1, £55,000 purchase from Irish pointing field who has been badly outpaced both starts in bumpers 5 months apart, so looks one to take on kept to 2m for hurdle debut.
|F| (12) (2.75/1 -10%) Joker Du Chenet |
2.75/1(-10%) | (12) Joker Du Chenet 2.75/1, Doctor Dino gelding. Half-brother to useful hurdler Hotesse du Chenet and fairly useful hurdler/chaser Gary du Chenet, both by Martaline. Makes plenty of appeal on paper and strong market support would need taking seriously.
10th (6) (33/1 +59%) Hugueneau |
33/1(+59%) | (6) Hugueneau 33/1, Easily off the mark in points at fifth attempt but looked one for the longer term under Rules when comfortably held in a novice hurdle at Plumpton last month.
11th (2) (200/1 +0%) Captain Nelson |
200/1(+0%) | (2) Captain Nelson 200/1, Showed nothing in his only bumper and sent off big prices when failing to complete all 3 starts in maiden hurdles, hampered when falling first at Ayr latest.
12th (11) (150/1 -88%) Acoustic |
150/1(-88%) | (11) Acoustic 150/1, Modest maiden on Flat for Richard Fahey (stays 9f). Sold for only 4,500 gns and gelded ahead of hurdle debut. Also tongue tied. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Resplendent Grey wasn't disgraced at Huntingdon last month, having won on his debut at Market Rasen in December, and Olly Murphy's gelding appeals as the type to progress now switched from bumpers to hurdles. However, preference is for the Stuart Crawford-trained debutant JOKER DU CHENET. The son of Doctor Dino is related to some smart types and he ought to posses the ability to land a race of this nature. Stablemate Sunshine Girl heads the remainder.
RESPLENDENT GREY created a good impression when landing a Market Rasen bumper on his debut before not being seen to best effect under a penalty at Huntingdon, so he's very much of interest now switching to hurdles in what looks a winnable contest. Newcomer Joker du Chenet makes plenty of appeal on paper and strong market support for him would put a slightly different slant on matters. Super Stars may prove best of the rest.
Those with hurdles experience set a modest standard and this could go to the newcomer JOKER DU CHENET, who has a useful French pedigree

1st (5) (8.5/1 +0%) First Class Return |
8.5/1(+0%) | (5) First Class Return 8.5/1, Clear-cut winner of back-to-back 3m handicap chases at Southwell in March 2021 but shown little since.
2nd (3) (3.33/1 +67%) Astroman |
3.33/1(+67%) | (3) Astroman 3.33/1, Respectable fourth of 15 in handicap hurdle over C&D latest but others preferred for win purposes.
3rd (2) (1.88/1 -15%) No Rematch |
1.88/1(-15%) | (2) No Rematch 1.88/1, Back to winning ways on his second run for current connections in claiming hurdle at Leicester in February. Disappointing subsequently (over fences last time) but deserves respect at this level.
4th (6) (3.33/1 +33%) On The Wild Side |
3.33/1(+33%) | (6) On The Wild Side 3.33/1, One-time fairly useful hurdler who has lost his way. Stable going better now, though and cheekpieces are tried, so return to form not completely out of the question.
|PU| (1) (5/1 +0%) Marajman |
5/1(+0%) | (1) Marajman 5/1, Has generally been in good order of late and shaped better than the result (let down by jumping) over fences at Market Rasen last time, so worthy of interest down in grade/back hurdling.
|PU| (7) (33/1 -65%) Rob Royal |
33/1(-65%) | (7) Rob Royal 33/1, Progressive a few seasons back but he hasn't shown much this term. Something to prove down in grade. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
NO REMATCH has been disappointing since landing a claimer at Leicester in February, but he's favoured at the weights this time around and could get back to winning ways down in grade. First-time cheekpieces could see On The Wild Side improve on recent efforts, while Captain Jack, who hit the crossbar in a similar event five days ago, is another to be interested in.
MARAJMAN has been better than the result on his last two outings and, returned to hurdling with Brian Hughes booked, he could be the answer to a tricky race. Captain Jack looks a solid alternative and On The Wild Side would be a major player if back in form.
It's hard to trust any of these and preference is for the 10yo maiden CAPTAIN JACK who is at least in some sort of form.

Kannapolis |
(5) (7.5/1 +53%)7.5/1(+53%) | (5) Kannapolis 7.5/1, Last success came in 3-runner handicap hurdle 12 months ago and yet to fire this season. Likely best watched on switch to chasing.
1st (6) (22/1 +33%) Sword Of Fate |
22/1(+33%) | (6) Sword Of Fate 22/1, On a lengthy losing run and no signs of improvement back from a break at Kelso recently.
2nd (1) (4.5/1 -64%) Sao |
4.5/1(-64%) | (1) Sao 4.5/1, Not successful since bagging 3 victories in 2020/21 but has been cut plenty of slack by the handicapper and didn't shape too badly (on return from 4 months off) when third at Kelso recently.
3rd (3) (3/1 +14%) Greenrock Abbey |
3/1(+14%) | (3) Greenrock Abbey 3/1, Has taken well to fences this season, winning 2 of his 5 starts. Chance undone by bad mistake at Stratford latest and must enter calculations here.
4th (9) (4/1 +11%) Onesoc |
4/1(+11%) | (9) Onesoc 4/1, Hurdles winner at Southwell last summer and opened chase account at the fourth time of asking there (15.8f) last month. Not disgraced when third over longer trip at Newcastle since and must be respected.
5th (7) (33/1 -106%) First Revolution |
33/1(-106%) | (7) First Revolution 33/1, Three-time winner at Sedgefield last year but ran badly when last seen at Hexham in September and wouldn't want too much rain on his return to action.
6th (4) (3.5/1 +22%) Oscars Leader |
3.5/1(+22%) | (4) Oscars Leader 3.5/1, Dual chase winner (both 16.3f) last season who returned to form when second of 10 in handicap at Bangor (17.4f, soft) 12 days ago. Races off same mark here and holds strong claims.
7th (2) (25/1 +0%) And The New |
25/1(+0%) | (2) And The New 25/1, One-time useful 2m4f winning hurdler who proved plenty of ability remains when hitting frame twice over fences for present yard last summer. However, struggled more recently and is tough to recommend.
8th (8) (10/1 -33%) Da Vinci Hand |
10/1(-33%) | (8) Da Vinci Hand 10/1, Yet to trouble the judge in 4 starts this season and makes little appeal despite a tumbling mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
GREENROCK ABBEY may have disappointed at Stratford last time but he had been in excellent form before that and his record since beginning over fences speaks for itself. The seven-year-old can bounce back to winning ways, with the capable Oscars Leader and last month's Southwell winner Onesoc looking best placed to chase him home. First Revolution and Sao are entitled to be thereabouts as well.
OSCARS LEADER is 9 lb below his last winning mark and turned in his best effort of the season at Bangor last month. He can land the spoils. Sao and Greenrock Abbey head the list of dangers.
This may go to GREENROCK ABBEY who has made a solid start to his chasing career and he made a mistake at the wrong time at Stratford.

1st (6) (5/1 +50%) Dillarchie |
5/1(+50%) | (6) Dillarchie 5/1, Yet to strike over hurdles but in good order this term, fifth of 11 in handicap here (21f) in October. Ought to be competitive again after her lay-off.
2nd (2) (10/1 +60%) Grand Du Nord |
10/1(+60%) | (2) Grand Du Nord 10/1, Continues out of sorts, remote third of 4 in handicap hurdle at Doncaster (24.4f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Others much preferred.
3rd (14) (18/1 +45%) September Daisy |
18/1(+45%) | (14) September Daisy 18/1, Not disgraced first 2 starts for her new yard this term but well below par both outings since, though she was kicked at the start at Ayr last time. Needs to bounce back.
4th (13) (7/1 +50%) Storm Force One |
7/1(+50%) | (13) Storm Force One 7/1, Remains winless after 23 starts but she posted a creditable third of 9 to Fiadh in handicap hurdle at this C&D 16 days ago. Shortlisted.
5th (11) (5.5/1 +31%) Rumble B |
5.5/1(+31%) | (11) Rumble B 5.5/1, Remains a maiden after 26 runs but he's going through a good spell at present, second to Fiadh over C&D last time. He should continue in form.
6th (4) (4/1 -14%) Fiadh |
4/1(-14%) | (4) Fiadh 4/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time when landing 9-runner handicap hurdle at this C&D 16 days ago by 4½ lengths from Rumble B. Up 5 lb but another bold showing is on the cards with headgear retained.
7th (1) (20/1 +70%) Velasco |
20/1(+70%) | (1) Velasco 20/1, Twice runner-up for Tom Lacey last season but his jumping became an increased issue and that problem has again been on show for this yard. Easy to look elsewhere.
8th (7) (12/1 -20%) Just Jess |
12/1(-20%) | (7) Just Jess 12/1, Scored at Catterick (25f) on New Year's Day but pulled up at Hexham three weeks ago. Hard to catch right.
|PU| (12) (8.5/1 -113%) Joanna I'm Fine |
8.5/1(-113%) | (12) Joanna I'm Fine 8.5/1, Got off the mark in 12-runner handicap hurdle at Ayr (24.3f, good to soft) 38 days ago. Up 5 lb but form has been franked so she ought to be in the shake-up.
|PU| (16) (9/1 +0%) Classic Lady |
9/1(+0%) | (16) Classic Lady 9/1, Thrice-raced maiden, only eighth of 9 in 2m novice hurdle here 31 days ago. Significantly up in trip and tongue strap goes on for her handicap debut. No forlorn hope.
|PU| (5) (22/1 -83%) Voyburg |
22/1(-83%) | (5) Voyburg 22/1, Fair winning hurdler but he's been under a cloud this season, well-held fifth at Exeter last time. Hard to warm to.
|PU| (9) (25/1 -213%) Baby Jane |
25/1(-213%) | (9) Baby Jane 25/1, Maiden hurdler and off for 14 months since posting a good second in handicap hurdle at Catterick (25.3f). Needs to hit the ground running.
|PU| (17) (150/1 -88%) Halfway House Lad |
150/1(-88%) | (17) Halfway House Lad 150/1, Yet to show any ability, last of 9 in 2m novice hurdle at Catterick 37 days ago. Significantly up in trip for his handicap bow with lots to prove.
|PU| (8) (150/1 -50%) Choungaya |
150/1(-50%) | (8) Choungaya 150/1, One-time useful chaser but very much on the downgrade these days and he hasn't shown anything in 6 starts for present yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A taking winner at Ayr last time, JOANNA I'M FINE must hold every chance of following up off a 5lb higher mark with conditions in her favour. Similar comments apply to recent C&D winner Fiadh, who should be able to uphold form with Rumble B (second) despite being 5lb worse off at the weights. Completing the shortlist are the likes of Baby Jane, Braganza Bay and Storm Force One.
Plenty with chances but FIADH proved revitalised by the fitting of cheekpieces when going in over C&D and still looks handily weighted despite taking a 5 lb rise with the headgear crucially on again here. Joanna I'm Fine is feared most on the back of her recent breakthrough Ayr success, with in-form pair Rumble B and Dillarchie completing the shortlist.
In an open handicap it might pay to take a chance on VOYBURG rediscovering his touch with the stable back in better form.

1st (2) (12/1 +14%) Silver In Disguise |
12/1(+14%) | (2) Silver In Disguise 12/1, Won a marathon handicap at Chepstow last spring. Best effort this season when runner-up back at Chepstow in February but ran poorly over 31f here last month.
2nd (4) (4.5/1 +25%) Gentleman De Mai |
4.5/1(+25%) | (4) Gentleman De Mai 4.5/1, Fair hurdle winner who made a good start to his chase career with cheekpieces added (retained) when second over 3m at Ayr in February. That form boosted by the winner, third, fourth and fifth all winning next time. Major player with improvement on cards.
3rd (3) (7/1 -40%) Not Sure |
7/1(-40%) | (3) Not Sure 7/1, Found improvement when off the mark in this sphere in first-time blinkers at Hereford (21f) in January and landed chase win number 2 at Uttoxeter (2½m, soft) 19 days ago. 3 lb rise looks fair. Respected.
4th (5) (50/1 -127%) Grange Ranger |
50/1(-127%) | (5) Grange Ranger 50/1, Sprang a 28/1 surprise when striking on C&D reappearance but has rather predictably failed to back that up in 3 subsequent starts. Has first-time cheekpieces combined with a refitted tongue strap. Others preferred.
5th (15) (11/1 +39%) Event Of Sivola |
11/1(+39%) | (15) Event Of Sivola 11/1, Won over 4m at Hexham in November. Best run since when third there (4m again) last month. First-time blinkers replace a visor now. Each-way claims.
6th (10) (4.5/1 +50%) Mad About Sally |
4.5/1(+50%) | (10) Mad About Sally 4.5/1, Hereford handicap hurdle winner in December and bounced back from a poor run at Ffos Las to make a winning start over fences at Fontwell (21.5f, good) in February. Matched that when third over 3m at Fakenham from his revised mark since.
7th (6) (9/1 -13%) Anglers Crag |
9/1(-13%) | (6) Anglers Crag 9/1, Point winner who made a successful start for this yard in Leicester novice hurdle last winter. Hasn't kicked on from that since but latest handicap chase third at Chepstow was creditable. Has first-time cheekpieces added to his regular tongue tie now.
|F| (7) (16/1 +11%) Rowdy Rustler |
16/1(+11%) | (7) Rowdy Rustler 16/1, Newcastle maiden hurdle winner last season. Promising second on his chase debut/reappearance there in November. Disappointing at Ayr on his 2 outings since but still early days and his yard's excellent form in recent weeks provides hope.
|F| (9) (22/1 +0%) Cosmic Outlaw |
22/1(+0%) | (9) Cosmic Outlaw 22/1, Scored over hurdles at Kelso in October but hasn't reproduced that in 2 outings since, puling up at Doncaster last time. Switches to fences for the first time here. Gentleman de Mai looks the stable firrst string.
|U| (14) (50/1 -100%) Larry Looby |
50/1(-100%) | (14) Larry Looby 50/1, Five wins (all under Emma Smith-Chaston) in a very productive first half of the sesaon. Freshened up since a respectable sixth at Newcastle in November. Chance he'll need this first run back.
|PU| (11) (6.5/1 +24%) Post Chaise |
6.5/1(+24%) | (11) Post Chaise 6.5/1, Made a very good start to his chase career when winning at Hereford and Huntingdon in January. Latest Doncaster fifth would suggest the handicapper has him about right so he'll need to pull out more for first-time cheekpieces.
|PU| (8) (12/1 -100%) Hotel Du Nord |
12/1(-100%) | (8) Hotel Du Nord 12/1, Dual point winner who made it 13th time lucky under Rules when landing a 25f Warwick veterans' chase 10 days ago on his first outing for Keiran Burke. Will be very competitive under a 7 lb penalty if showing up here in similar form.
|PU| (12) (14/1 +58%) Crixus's Escape |
14/1(+58%) | (12) Crixus's Escape 14/1, Runner-up twice off significantly higher marks last term, but he's hard to warm to based on what he's shown in 4 starts so far this season. Goes back up in trip now.
|PU| (17) (14/1 +65%) Ballynagran |
14/1(+65%) | (17) Ballynagran 14/1, Backed at long odds, despite being 15 lb out of the handicap, and showed much improved form when off the mark in a C&D handicap in January. Not in anything like the same form twice since so his hopes are pinned on a return to this venue sparking a revival.
|PU| (16) (33/1 +0%) Kaphumor |
33/1(+0%) | (16) Kaphumor 33/1, Winless since 2021 and produced another laboured effort when a distant last of 4 finishers at Hexham last week. Now refitted with the cheekpieces he wore when third over C&D in January but he's still tough to make a case for. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
This can go the way of GENTLEMAN DE MAI, who ran a cracker on his chase debut at Ayr in February, a race which has produced no fewer than four winners since. Rose Dobbin's charge is taken to go one place better on this occasion and can strike at the main expense of the in-form C&D winner Tango Boy, and Hotel Du Nord, who did it well at Wincanton last time out.
The form of GENTLEMAN DE MAI's Ayr chase debut second has been boosted a few times since so he's taken to go one better with improvement on cards. Last-time-out scorers Not Sure, Hotel du Nord and Tango Boy head the many dangers. It would also be no surprise to see Rowdy Rustler bounce back to form with the Lucinda Russell stable going so well.
With the form of his chase debut second at Ayr in February having worked out extremely well, GENTLEMAN DE MAI (nap) earns the vote.

1st (5) (2/1 +0%) Support Act |
2/1(+0%) | (5) Support Act 2/1, €23,000 3-y-o, Affinisea gelding. Runner-up sole start in Irish points (Apr 2022) and displayed plenty of ability on Rules debut in a Kempton bumper (2m) 6 weeks ago, rallying to go second late on. Definite claims of going one place better here on that evidence.
2nd (6) (100/1 -150%) Telemetry |
100/1(-150%) | (6) Telemetry 100/1, Telescope gelding. Closely related to modest hurdler Zwicky. Dam ran twice in bumpers, out of fair 2½m hurdle winner Marsh Run. Likely best watched on debut.
3rd (1) (3.5/1 -17%) Booster Bob |
3.5/1(-17%) | (1) Booster Bob 3.5/1, Malinas gelding. Dam (h70) lightly raced in bumpers/over hurdles. Made a promising start when winning 11-runner bumper at Ayr (16f, soft) at the start of February, drawing clear over 1f out and reduced advantage again only late on. Possibilities under a penalty.
4th (8) (3/1 +73%) Molly's Third Man |
3/1(+73%) | (8) Molly's Third Man 3/1, Jack Hobbs gelding. Half-brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler I Spy A Diva, stays 3¼m. Dam (c80/h135) bumper/2m-3m hurdle winner, also winner on Flat. Another worth a check in the betting on debut for clues.
5th (4) (125/1 -25%) Magical Arthur |
125/1(-25%) | (4) Magical Arthur 125/1, Yeats gelding. Closely related to fairly useful hurdler Fin And Game, stays 19f, and bumper winner Nell's Bells. 28/1, didn't offer much in way of short-term promise when last of 9 in a Haydock bumper (15.6f, soft) in December. This should reveal more on back of a wind op.
6th (9) (125/1 -25%) Stonegate |
125/1(-25%) | (9) Stonegate 125/1, Proconsul gelding. Closely related to 2m winner Yasmin From York. Dam (h102) 2m hurdle winner.
7th (2) (28/1 +15%) Ballywhatsit |
28/1(+15%) | (2) Ballywhatsit 28/1, €65,000 3-y-o, Kalanisi gelding. Reminders and behind when ran out under a circuit out on debut at Market Rasen (16.5f) 8 days ago. Best watched on the back of that.
8th (7) (2.25/1 +44%) Viva Valentina |
2.25/1(+44%) | (7) Viva Valentina 2.25/1, €82,000 3-y-o, Masked Marvel mare. Sister to fairly useful French hurdler/chaser Arbarok, and half-sister to 2 winners, including fairly useful French chaser Sainte Sophie. Yard no stranger to success with their bumper runners and she's very much one to note. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
IL VA DE SOI made both a pleasing stable/Rules debut for Harry Derham when only beaten a head at Kempton in February, and there is likely more to come from the gelded son of Gris De Gris. Booster Bob must hold every chance of securing a double, despite having to shoulder a 7lb penalty for his success over this trip at Ayr on debut, and he is feared most ahead of Support Act.
An interesting bumper with the narrow vote in favour of SUPPORT ACT. He shaped with plenty of promise when runner-up on Rules debut at Kempton 6 weeks ago, and with progress anticipated, he can go one place better. Booster Bob, who opened his account at the first attempt at Ayr, is feared along with Il Va de Soi, whilst Dan Skelton's newcomer Molly's Third Man demands a market check for clues.
It looked to be a warm bumper in which SUPPORT ACT was second at Kempton in February and he's the selection ahead of Il Va De Soi.

1st (7) (2.5/1 -25%) Coco Mademoiselle |
2.5/1(-25%) | (7) Coco Mademoiselle 2.5/1, €12,000 3-y-o, £100,000 5-y-o, Doyen mare. Dam placed in points. Off mark in Irish points at second attempt (Jan 8) so she's an interesting Rules newcomer for yard with a fine record at this track.
2nd (3) (7/1 +7%) Paddy O'mahler |
7/1(+7%) | (3) Paddy O'mahler 7/1, Mahler gelding who produced a promising debut effort when third over C&D (good to soft) a couple of months ago. He's bred to stay well and could well build on that initial outing.
3rd (2) (5.5/1 +31%) Got Your Back |
5.5/1(+31%) | (2) Got Your Back 5.5/1, €33,000 3-y-o, Milan gelding. Closely related to fair chaser It's Only A Number. Runner-up sole start in Irish points (Feb 19) so he's one to take seriously on Rules debut.
4th (1) (6.5/1 -63%) Boldog |
6.5/1(-63%) | (1) Boldog 6.5/1, Still in need of experience but left debut effort well behind fitted with a tongue strap when fifth in Navan bumper (16f, heavy, 40/1) 17 days ago. Fancied to take another step forward.
5th (8) (2/1 +33%) Light Sentence |
2/1(+33%) | (8) Light Sentence 2/1, Flat-bred gelding who shaped well when placed in a couple of Taunton bumpers (16.5f) last month, left with plenty of ground to make up when finishing runner-up last time. Should go close with an experience edge over most his rivals.
6th (4) (25/1 +38%) Special Rate |
25/1(+38%) | (4) Special Rate 25/1, Just mid-field in pair of bumpers for Mary E Doyle over the Irish Sea last summer so will need to show more on first start for his new stable. Tongue tie fitted.
7th (9) (20/1 -25%) Tineggiori |
20/1(-25%) | (9) Tineggiori 20/1, Bated Breath gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful 2m hurdle winner Pakora. Check betting.
8th (5) (200/1 -300%) Topcliffe Boy |
200/1(-300%) | (5) Topcliffe Boy 200/1, Eagle Top gelding who attracted some support but offered little when finishing down the field in a Newcastle bumper (16.2f, heavy) last month. Easy to look elsewhere. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A fairly open second division of the bumper in which marginal preference is for the Dan Skelton-trained COCO MADEMOISELLE. She bolted up in a point-to-point in Ireland earlier this year, when trained by Denis Paul Murphy, and is fancied to follow up on her Rules debut for a yard which has enjoyed plenty of success at this track over the years. Light Sentence and Got Your Back add further spice to the race.
COCO MADEMOISELLE got off the mark on her second outing in Irish points earlier in the year so, representing a yard that boast a fine record at this track, she's fancied to make a winning start under Rules in a contest that may not take much winning. Light Sentence was placed on both outings at Taunton last month, so he's put forward as the main threat, ahead of Irish-raider Boldog.
The 4yo LIGHT SENTENCE will need to settle better than he did when second at Taunton but he clearly has plenty of ability.
Ths is the racecard key.
