The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BARRIER's placed form over flights looks strong, so she is taken to get off the mark. The horse that beat her into second at Naas was subsequently placed in the Boodles at the Cheltenham Festival, and it was a subsequent Grade 2 runner-up that beat her into third at Gowran Park. Ex-Flat winner Malbay Madness didn't quite get home in fourth on testing ground at Cork. This ground isn't forecast to be as deep and he has claims. Star Of Mayo won on the level in Britain and is a hurdling debutant that could go better than most.
BARRIER finished placed in a couple of juvenile contests at the beginning of 2024 and a repeat of that level will see her hard to beat. Malbay Madness was a different proposition on second hurdles start at Cork 3 weeks ago and is clear-second choice.
This can go the way of BARRIER who has some solid form in the book this winter and she arrives on the back of a good Flat run

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
GROOVEYKINDOFLOVE looks the part for in-form Henry de Bromhead. She kept on to be a somewhat remote second in Down Royal, but that run has to be put in context as the winner has since finished runner-up in a Grade 3 and a Grade 1. Magic Dawn has shown ability over flights in big fields at Naas and when beaten a fair way into second at Leopardstown. This could be seen as a drop in class for her. Pampar Lady is likely to build upon a third place over a similar trip when last seen at Clonmel in November while Russellsbelle would prefer better ground, but is not without a chance.
GAILLIMH A RUN stepped up on her hurdles bow when third at Clonmel and is entitled to improve again on her bumper form. She shades the vote over Grooveykindoflove, who was no match for the odds on favourite at Down Royal but is not yet the finished article. Magic Dawn is best of the others.
GROOVEYKINDOFLOVE has run well in defeat in two starts so far and if her jumping is a bit slicker this time, she may be the one to beat

1st (10) (7/1 +22%) Roxhill Roise |
7/1(+22%) | (10) Roxhill Roise 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules who did better for hurdles debut when second of 14 in a Thurles maiden (19.8f) in February. Not in anything like the same form when pulled up at Leopardstown since so she'll need to dispel that effort here. Point winner was runner-up in modest maiden hurdle at Thurles in February; poor run since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (5/2 +9%) Prince Palace |
5/2(+9%) | (7) Prince Palace 5/2, Fairly useful hurdler. Bit below form ninth of 16 in handicap hurdle (16/1) at Fairyhouse (20f, heavy) 21 days ago, no extra between last 2. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (2/1 +0%) Crooked Tannie |
2/1(+0%) | (1) Crooked Tannie 2/1, Fairly useful hurdler. Below form third of 15 in novice hurdle (4/9) at Leopardstown (16f, soft) 49 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Tongue strap on 1st time and up to playing a part on pick of his form. Placed in decent 2m maidens; can be keen so step up in trip not sure to suit; tongue-tie. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (16/1 -113%) Wepushourlucksofar |
16/1(-113%) | (9) Wepushourlucksofar 16/1, €13,000 3-y-o, Mahler gelding. Dam, showed nothing over hurdles, closely related to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 2½m) I'm All You Need. Off mark in points at third attempt (dead-heat, Nov 2023) and the market should prove a useful guide on Rules/hurdles debut. Dead-heated in point in November, bought in at Cheltenham later that month; rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (12/1 +25%) Rocco Boyo |
12/1(+25%) | (8) Rocco Boyo 12/1, Fair form at best in bumpers and offered something to work on sent hurdling when third of 5 in a maiden hurdle at Punchestown (22f, soft) 147 days ago. Entitled to do better. Remote third behind two smart types on hurdling bow at Punchestown in November; off since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (20/1 +20%) On The Tide |
20/1(+20%) | (4) On The Tide 20/1, Fair hurdler. Remains a maiden after 8 hurdle runs. 28/1, pulled up in handicap hurdle at Thurles (20.6f, soft) 150 days ago, tailed off when pulled up before 2 out. Placed after longer lay-off at Kilbeggan last summer but didn't build on that; stiff task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (33/1 -32%) Diamond Duke |
33/1(-32%) | (3) Diamond Duke 33/1, Diamond Boy gelding. Dam (c116/h120), 2m hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to useful hurdler/chaser (stays 2½m) Whoshotthesheriff. Interesting what the betting makes of him on debut. Cheaply bought as a foal; dam 2m hurdle/chase winner, half-sister to useful hurdle winners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (4/1 -33%) Pirate Island |
4/1(-33%) | (6) Pirate Island 4/1, Fair hurdler. Remains a maiden after 7 hurdle runs. 2/1, bit below form fourth of 10 in novice hurdle at Cork (24.4f, heavy) 20 days ago. Drop back in trip may well see him in a better light here. Plenty of solid form over hurdles; well beaten when favourite for 3m maiden at Cork. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (80/1 -100%) Pat The Carraig |
80/1(-100%) | (5) Pat The Carraig 80/1, Once-raced maiden. 28/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at this course (21.6f, heavy) on NH debut 111 days ago, never travelling well and pulled up after 4 out. Pulled up over C&D on New Year's Day; can only be watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (150/1 -355%) Kings Prince |
150/1(-355%) | (2) Kings Prince 150/1, Fair handicapper at best on Flat (stays 15f), down the field last 2 starts (on return/stable debut on latest). Likely best watched now attentions switch to tackling timber for the first time. Placed in staying contests on the Flat last summer; hurdling debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
PRINCE PALACE was placed twice over staying trips in Fairyhouse last year and this race gives him an opportunity to grab a victory. He didn't cut much ice in two outings in February and March, however, they were much better contests and he should appreciate this company. Pirate Island has been placed three times over flights and looks one of the more likely contenders. Rocco Boyo faced a stiff task in a Punchestown maiden hurdle in November and duly finished well adrift in third. Prior to that, he was placed in a couple of bumpers so he could have a say. Crooked Tannie has the ability to be very competitive, but the trip is a concern as he was completely tailed off over 2m4f at Navan in January.
PRINCE PALACE needs to shrug off a couple of lesser displays but the pick of his form in this sphere suggests he's well up to landing a race of this nature and he could just be worth chancing to bounce back. Pirate Island and Crooked Tannie are others expected to be firmly in the mix.
He has a bit to find at the weights with a couple of these but PIRATE ISLAND is fairly reliable and will get the trip well

17/2(+47%) | (2) Mighty Jeremy 17/2, Course winner. Latest win in hurdle at Fairyhouse in February. 7/1, pulled up in handicap hurdle at Gowran (20.1f, heavy) 64 days ago, behind when pulled up early in straight. Seemingly progressive despite being 10yo now but poor run last time and career best needed. |

22/1(-38%) | (3) Carrig Rock 22/1, Ninth of 13 in novice chase (16/1) at Down Royal (20f, soft) 117 days ago. Switches from chase to hurdles with more needed. Interesting back over timber after hit and miss chase campaign but needs a career best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (7/1 +56%) Thunder |
7/1(+56%) | (9) Thunder 7/1, C&D winner. Winner in hurdle here in June. Seventh of 8 in novice hurdle (14/1) at this course (20.5f, good). Off 8 months. Needs to hit the ground running on his handicap hurdle debut. C&D winner in maiden hurdle but showed nothing twice since and off 248 days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (7/1 +42%) Doyenna |
7/1(+42%) | (12) Doyenna 7/1, Course winner. Pulled up in handicap hurdle at Leopardstown (20f, heavy, 10/1) 48 days ago, tailed off when pulled up between last 2. Others appeal more. Ran okay in September but struggled twice since and this is tough. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
EPSON DU HOUX catches the eye reverting to hurdling off a 26lb lower mark than his chase rating. Furthermore, Carl Millar lessens his burden by 7lb. The concern would be the trip, but this is a sharp track and it could reinvigorate him after failing to trouble the judge in his last five appearances. West Away unseated in Down Royal, but has form in the book to make him a player, while Natural Breeze is the lowest-rated horse in the field, but is a consistent sort.
Not so competitive as the numbers suggest and NATURAL BREEZE looks the way to go on the back of his good Clonmel second last time out. Gordon Elliott's Epson du Houx could emerge as the chief threat back hurdling with Good As Hell another to consider.
EPSON DU HOUX hasn't shown much over fences this season but will be a big player from his much lower hurdle mark if retaining ability

6th (8) (8/1 -60%) C'est Quelqu'un |
8/1(-60%) | (8) C'est Quelqu'un 8/1, 2 wins from 5 runs this season. Pulled up in handicap chase (5/2) at Fairyhouse (24.5f, soft) 6 months ago. Yard in good form so could bounce back. Progressive until final start in October when apparently burst; owner is a local man. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (8/1 +60%) Lake Chad |
8/1(+60%) | (10) Lake Chad 8/1, Course winner but a below form seventh of 15 in handicap chase at Thurles (20.3f, heavy, 10/1) 36 days ago. Sort to bounce back. Infrequent winner but sole chase victory came over C&D and he usually runs well here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (7/1 -40%) Time Marches On |
7/1(-40%) | (7) Time Marches On 7/1, Winner in chase at Cork in October. Still going well when fell 3 out in handicap chase at Thurles (18.3f, good to soft, 7/2) 126 days ago. Cheekpieces refitted and on the shortlist. Jumped well when winning rated novice chase at Cork (2m1f) but tipped up last time. |

9th (1) (9/1 -50%) Willywampus |
9/1(-50%) | (1) Willywampus 9/1, C&D winner who landed 11-runner handicap chase at Thurles (18.3f, good to soft, 8/1) 126 days ago, going with enthusiasm. That form has been franked so leading claims. Up 6lb for Thurles win in December; drying ground a help but opposable after a break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BRUCEJACK finished mid-division in a quality novice handicap chase at Navan and, on penultimate start, was runner-up in a beginners' chase at Thurles which brings him into contention. Paul Townend is a very notable jockey booking for him. Willywampus enjoyed a staying trip at this track when delivering in August. He was last seen taking the honours at Thurles in December, so the top-weight has to be respected. C'est Quelqu'un picked up plenty of prize money last year and would be a threat if ready to go after a lengthy absence.
A case can be made for a few of these but C&D winner WILLYWAMPUS looked in fine fettle when scoring at Thurles last time so gets the vote with that form working out well. Both Rochestown and Sweet Will command plenty of respect reverting to this sphere and can chase home Eamon Courtney's 7-y-o in that order.
A pretty open affair but there should be mileage in a mark of 105 for BRUCEJACK (nap) and Paul Townend's mount gets the vote

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (33/1 -65%) College Causeway |
33/1(-65%) | (8) College Causeway 33/1, 20/1, respectable sixth of 12 in handicap hurdle at Down Royal (20f, soft) 35 days ago. Makes chase debut. Down in trip. Makes handicap chase debut. Nine-race maiden; has shown ability but this looks tough on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

Gordon Elliott has a good track record when picking up lowly rated performers out of England and ERIGMOOR catches the eye here. The Schiaparelli gelding had some decent placed form over the water and is only six so there is scope for improvement. He cost just £7,000 at the sales in December and could make a big chunk of that back now. Mahlers Cove ran well when third over hurdles at Naas last time and is equally effective over fences so has to be a leading player here. Dontdooddson is another who was placed over timber last time and also has to be on the shortlist.
ERIGMOOR went backwards for Stuart Edmunds over fences but he starts out on a good mark for Gordon Elliott and, given the shortcomings of his rivals, he's well worth taking a chance on after 4 months off. Mahlers Cove is the most solid alternative and Dontdooddson can't be completely dismissed.
This won't take much winning and MAHLERS COVE could be the one having shaped with promise over hurdles last time

2nd (3) (2/1 -33%) Dutch Schultz |
2/1(-33%) | (3) Dutch Schultz 2/1, Fairly useful chaser. Creditable second of 8 in handicap chase at Navan (17f, heavy, 3/1) 29 days ago. Should take all the beating. Getting the hang of things over fences, mark has gone up 7lb in total for handicap seconds. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/2 +55%) Doyen Ta Win |
9/2(+55%) | (2) Doyen Ta Win 9/2, Fairly useful hurdler. Tailed-off third of 5 to Lantry Lady in Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran (16f, heavy, 10/3) 64 days ago, ridden too aggressively. Starts out over fences with a bit to prove. Front-runner is three-time hurdle winner; not in great form, stiff task on chase debut. |

|PU| (1) (5/2 -11%) Henn See |
5/2(-11%) | (1) Henn See 5/2, Fairly useful chaser. Latest win in chase at Clonmel in December. Tongue strap on for 1st time, pulled up in handicap chase at Leopardstown (17f, soft, 11/2) 78 days ago, weakening before 2 out. Not one to write off. Both wins on heavy; poor last twice but was only 11-2 for valuable Leopardstown handicap. |

Only four go to post but it's a competitive little heat and DUTCH SCHULTZ gets the vote after a couple of solid runner-up efforts. Gavin Cromwell's charge was collared late on in a handicap at Navan last time and this looks like a nice opportunity back in novice company. Henn See is the only winner over fences in the field and has to carry a penalty as a result. He was disappointing in a very competitive handicap at the Dublin Racing Festival last time but has to be respected dropping in class now. Doyen Ta Win makes her chase debut and is sure to make a bold bid from the front if taking to the larger obstacles.
DUTCH SCHULTZ arrives on the back of a solid effort in a handicap and a performance of similar effort could be enough to get the better of both Gua Du Large and Henn See, who have a bit more to prove than the selection.
The best of these over hurdles, and by some way, is GUA DU LARGE and he is the selection on his third start back after a long absence
Ths is the racecard key.
