1st (10) (7.5/1 +70%) Zaphod |
7.5/1(+70%) | (10) Zaphod 7.5/1, Foaled February 25. €56,000 foal, Zarak gelding. Half-brother to winner up to 1¼m Miss Down Under. Dam once-raced half-sister to very smart 1¼m-12.5f winner Spiritjim. Entitled to come on for the run. Dam placed on only start is a half-sister to French 2,000 Guineas winner Silver Frost. |

2nd (7) (3/1 -20%) Rapid Mission |
3/1(-20%) | (7) Rapid Mission 3/1, Thrice-raced colt. 7/2, third of 10 in maiden at Punchestown (8f, good to soft) 18 days ago, finishing well. Shapes as though extra furlong here will be in his favour and he's a big player. Two Curragh runs before Punchetrown third, trip should suit, may make his experience count. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (50/1 -25%) Navajo Scout |
50/1(-25%) | (4) Navajo Scout 50/1, Twice-raced colt. Sixth of 10 in maiden at Punchestown (8f, good to soft, 50/1) 18 days ago. Probably more one for handicaps in due course. Similar form in maidens over 1m at Dundalk and Punchestown, probably needs a handicap mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (2.5/1 +69%) Nine Lives |
2.5/1(+69%) | (5) Nine Lives 2.5/1, €31,000 foal, 70,000 gns yearling. Half-brother to 1m-1¾m winner (stayed 2m) Paddy A, while his dam was a 1½m winner who stayed 15f, herself a sister to smart winner up to 15.5f Montare. Yard in good form and he's one to note in the betting. Dam won over 1m4f and is a sister to Prix Royal Oak winner Montare, no stamina doubts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (33/1 -83%) Brave And Bold |
33/1(-83%) | (1) Brave And Bold 33/1, Once-raced colt. 8/1, last of 5 in maiden at Galway (8.6f, good to soft) on debut 19 days ago. Likely to leave that form well behind in time but Hypnosis is the stable first-string here. Last of five on debut at Galway, likely to be capable of much better but hard to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (12/1 +14%) Del Posto |
12/1(+14%) | (2) Del Posto 12/1, Foaled April 9. €40,000 yearling, Magna Grecia colt. Half-brother to 1½m winner Prosper Legend. Market should point the way. Half-brother to a 1m4f winner, dam won over 1m, trip should not be a problem. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (125/1 -213%) Timeonourside |
125/1(-213%) | (9) Timeonourside 125/1, Once-raced gelding. Fourth of 5 in maiden (250/1) at Galway (8.6f, good to soft) on debut 19 days ago. Probably best to look elsewhere. Ran very green on debut at Galway but managed to finish in front of Brave And Bold. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (9/4 -63%) Hypnosis |
9/4(-63%) | (3) Hypnosis 9/4, Highly promising individual. Fifth of 8 in maiden (16/1) at this C&D (good to soft) on debut 28 days ago, finishing well. This well-bred colt possesses plenty of scope for improvement. Promising effort when outsider of three for stable over C&D on debut, may feature now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (12/1 +0%) Sound Move |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Sound Move 12/1, Foaled May 24. Belardo colt. Brother to 2-y-o 1m winner Purple Dawn and 2-y-o 7f winner Approaching Bear. Interesting to see what the market has to say. Brother to two winners, unplaced dam is a sister to the top-class Dawn Approach. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Having got the hang of things late when staying on well to be nearest at the finish here on debut, the Aidan O'Brien-trained HYPNOSIS should be an entirely different proposition on this second start. A full-brother to two juvenile winners, the Galileo colt is bred to appreciate this trip. Rapid Mission ran well in a hot Curragh maiden on his second outing, before improving again to finish third at Punchestown. The Frankel colt has plenty of experience, which could prove vital in a race of this nature. Brave And Bold will need to come forward from a somewhat disappointing racecourse debut at Galway, but the Ballydoyle colt is surely capable of much better. It would be no surprise to see a much improved performance at his local track.
There were plenty of positives to take from HYPNOSIS' eye-catching debut fifth over this C&D and, likely to take a considerable step forward now that he has experience to draw upon, the Galileo colt looks the way to go. Rapid Mission appears to be getting the hang of things judged on his latest effort at Punchestown and he rates the clear main danger. Newcomers Nine Lives, Puente Romano and Sound Move all need monitoring in the betting.
The experience gained by Rapid Mission should be a big help but even so, preference is for HYPNOSIS who can improve from his debut

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (17/2 +6%) Independent Expert |
17/2(+6%) | (11) Independent Expert 17/2, 8/1, good 2½ lengths second of 11 to Simply Sideways in handicap at Listowel (9f, soft) 10 days ago, running on. Enters calculations. Behind New Hill at Punchestown, more like it when second to Simply Sideways at Listowel. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (5) (22/1 -57%) Casanova |
22/1(-57%) | (5) Casanova 22/1, Twenty five runs since last win in 2021. Ninth of 10 in handicap (6/1) at Listowel (8f, soft) 12 days ago, slowly away. Has good chance on pick of form. Losing run now stretches back over two years, a couple of good handicap runs this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (7) (11/1 -10%) Save Your Love |
11/1(-10%) | (7) Save Your Love 11/1, Latest win at Leopardstown in July. 11/2, ninth of 14 in handicap at Dundalk (10.7f) 47 days ago, merely closing up late. Others more persuasive. Below his best on a first visit to Dundalk, won six-runner Leopardstown handicap in July. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Despite being 1lb out of the handicap, NEW HILL appeals as one who may have been laid out for this race. A desperately unlucky-in-running fifth in last year's renewal, the Sheila Lavery-trained mare has most likely been targeted at a repeat for some time. In-form jockey Wesley Joyce is a notable booking, taking off a valuable 7lb, while a low draw has also worked in her favour. Simply Sideways has been a revelation in recent starts since adopting a more prominent racing style. Drawn out wide isn't ideal for such tactics but if able to get away smartly, the Tim Doyle-trained mare has a serious chance. Saltonstall was a comfortable winner of this race last year, but is 4lb higher this time. Nevertheless, the admirable nine-year-old holds strong claims.
SALTONSTALL tends to peak around this time of the year, as he demonstrated when winning this race last year before following up at Leopardstown, and the 9-y-o is taken to strike having dipped to an attractive mark. Stablemate Casanova has also been shown some mercy by the handicapper and he is likely to be involved in the finish, too. Laughifuwant is also considered but the hat-trick seeking Simply Sideways is opposable following a hefty rise for her latest success at Listowel.
This looks very open and it may be worth taking a chance with NEW HILL whose recent Punchestown fourth was quite encouraging

Began the season with a 1m Group 3 win, ground conditions to suit, drops in class now. |

Looks vulnerable conceding weight all round. 7f Naas Listed win in May came on good ground, not as effective as some of these on soft. |

Statement |
(10) (11/1 +21%)11/1(+21%) | (10) Statement 11/1, Useful mare. C&D winner. Below form 7¾ lengths sixth of 13 to Foniska in listed race (15/2) at Cork (8f, soft) 5 days ago. Plenty to find on form. Won this in 2022 after winning a Listed race at Cork, unplaced in same Cork race this year. |

Needs to raise his game. Has been running well in handicaps, acts well on soft ground, tough task in this company. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Bells On Her Toes is well treated at these weights and warrants plenty of respect following her close-up fourth in Group 3 company at this venue, but DUNUM shades the verdict. Recent win and placed efforts in fiercely competitive handicaps suggest that he is up to this level and forecast testing conditions should be right up his street. The class-dropping Insinuendo also merits consideration with Colin Keane booked to ride.
DUNUM has proved ultra-consistent in top handicaps at up to 9f and looks more than ready for this switch to listed company. He proved much too strong for the re-opposing Snapraeterea at Galway in August and it's unlikely that a 4 lb pull will be enough for Joseph O'Brien's charge to reverse the placings here. That said, Snapraeterea is still best of the rest ahead of Insinuendo and Bells On Her Toes.
Willie McCreery has run INSINUENDO in 16 consecutive Pattern races and the mare may now take advantage of this drop in class.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Wille Mullins runs three and Sean O'Keeffe retains the ride on ARCTIC FLY after guiding the mare to victory in a Listed contest at Galway. As in her maiden win at Punchestown, the five-year-old made all the running and she can confirm the form with subsequent Ballinrobe winner Sherodan, who was second, and stablemate Williamstowndancer, who was a well-beaten seventh. Paul Townend is on Bialystok, who was seventh in the Galway Hurdle after winning a competitive handicap at the Punchestown Festival, although he needs to bounce back from an odds-on defeat in a small-field contest at Listowel. Samui was all out to win the Lartigue Hurdle at Listowel but may be capable of further progress along with Birdie Or Bust, who was a facile maiden winner over C&D in May.
Willie Mullins has saddled the winner of this seven times in the last eight years and ARCTIC FLY could be another for the all-conquering yard, for all that jockey bookings suggest that Bialystok is the stable first-string. Arctic Fly raised her game when making it 2-2 over hurdles at Galway where she proved much too good for the re-opposing Sherodan and there should be more to come from this 5-y-o. Bialystok is second choice ahead of the unexposed Birdie Or Bust.
The mare BIRDIE OR BUST earned her crack at this level when hosing up in her latest maiden and she might be the answer.

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Unpenalised for his Galway Hurdle success by virtue of it being a handicap, ZARAK THE BRAVE has been found a very good opportunity and is impossible to oppose. Placed in Grade 1 company at Punchestown and Auteuil, he was the first four-year-old to win the Ballybrit highlight since 2000 and he's well clear of these rivals on ratings. Party Central is a smart mare who has picked up a couple of Flat wins this year, but she was well held in mid-division behind the selection at Galway and a 6lb turnaround in the weights won't be enough to reverse that form. Fils D'oudairies beat Sharjah in a C&D Grade 3 in July, but faces a stiff task at the weights and is likely to be battling it out for second spot with stablemate Party Central.
It's hard to look beyond ZARAK THE BRAVE, who was runner-up in the Champion Four Year Old Hurdle at Punchestown during the spring and he scaled new heights when seeing off 18 rivals in the Galway Hurdle on his latest start in August. Fils D'oudairies could be the one for the forecast ahead of Party Central.
It's difficult to get away from ZARAK THE BRAVE, a high-class juvenile who became the first 4yo to land the Galway Hurdle in 23 years.

Top Moon |
(5) (22/1 +33%)22/1(+33%) | (5) Top Moon 22/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2021. Sixth of 8 in handicap hurdle (33/1) at Uttoxeter (23.3f, good). Off 15 months and significantly down in trip on first run for yard after leaving Ben Haslam. Useful chaser for Joseph O'Brien, failed to prosper when trained in Britain, may need this. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
STARMAN was acquired for 5,000 euros out of a claiming hurdle at Clonmel on Thursday and is turned out again quickly by his new connections after that easy victory over good yardstick Bal De Rio. The seven-year-old carries a 7lb penalty, but may be able to follow up in what doesn't look the most competitive of handicaps. Clarens won three in a row in 2021 and performed quite well at the Punchestown Festival in the spring. He made a pleasing return at Navan and the booking of Danny Mullins looks significant. Royal Eagle was placed at the Galway Festival before winning at Tramore, and lost little in defeat when runner-up on the level at that venue last time. She has plenty of weight, though, and would prefer better ground. Downpatrick maiden winner Ring O Roses returns from four months off and is another to note on handicap debut.
The unexposed RING O ROSES quickened nicely when opening her account in a Ballinrobe maiden on her latest start in May and, with improvement likely now pitched into a handicap, she could take some stopping if fully tuned-up following a break. Royal Eagle looks pretty solid and is next on the list ahead of Cerberus, who arrives here on a long losing run but is down to a potentially handy mark and perhaps the addition of blinkers here will aid his cause.
There could be plenty of improvement to come from RING O ROSES (nap), a maiden winner making her handicap debut

Sharjah |
(4) (8/15 +27%)8/15(+27%) | (4) Sharjah 8/15, Promising individual. Very smart winner at 16f over hurdles. Career best when winning 7-runner novice chase (1/4) at Galway (18.2f, good to soft) on debut over fences 61 days ago, easily. The best of these over hurdles and was pretty much perfect on chase debut at Galway. |

Captain Conby |
(2) (10/3 -11%)10/3(-11%) | (2) Captain Conby 10/3, Useful chaser. Career best when winning 8-runner novice chase at Killarney (17f, good to soft, 11/8) on debut over fences 36 days ago, cruising clear. Open to improvement. Useful hurdler bred to be better over fences and did everything right at Killarney. |

Watch House Cross |
(1) (13/2 -30%)13/2(-30%) | (1) Watch House Cross 13/2, Useful chaser. 2 wins from 3 runs this season. Latest win in chase at Wexford in June. 5/2, third of 4 in minor event chase at Killarney (17f, good) 72 days ago. Has improved since beating Senecia on better terms in May; returning to further a plus. |

Senecia |
(3) (14/1 +13%)14/1(+13%) | (3) Senecia 14/1, Useful chaser. 13/8, good 3¾ lengths second of 6 to Watch House Cross in minor event chase at Wexford (16f, good to soft) 134 days ago, no match for winner. Back up in trip. Took a good scalp before beaten by Watch House Cross when giving him weight. |

Time To Rocco |
(5) (22/1 +12%)22/1(+12%) | (5) Time To Rocco 22/1, Fairly useful chaser. Latest win in chase at Thurles in March. 16/1, good second of 6 in novice chase at Listowel (20f, soft) 11 days ago, no match for winner. Beaten four times since winning chase debut and limitations can be exposed once more. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
CAPTAIN CONBY didn't fulfil his potential over hurdles, but his sixth in the Coral Cup at Cheltenham showed what he is capable of and he was an easy winner on chase debut at Killarney last month. Dusty Sheehy's charge wasn't foot perfect by any means on that occasion, but should have learned plenty and can make it two from two over the larger obstacles. Multiple Grade 1 winner Sharjah is by far the best of these over timber and seemed to really enjoy himself when making a winning start over fences at Galway. It's late in the day for the 10-year-old to be going chasing and this race will help to reveal what sort of heights he can scale in this sphere. Senecia did well to beat subsequent improver Hercule Du Seuil on his chasing debut at Ballinrobe and, with a 10lb pull in the weights, may turn around Wexford form with the penalised Watch House Cross.
Smart hurdler SHARJAH jumped with aplomb when making a winning chase debut at Galway and, with the promise of better to come from him in this sphere, he is taken to maintain his 100% record over fences. Captain Conby was also pretty impressive starting out over fences in a Killarney maiden last month and is likely to emerge as the main danger. Senecia and Watch House Cross can do battle for minor honours.
The admirable SHARJAH would beat these every day of the week over hurdles and he was pretty much faultless on his chase debut.

Highland Dew |
(8) (150/1 +25%)150/1(+25%) | (8) Highland Dew 150/1, Once-raced maiden. Last of 14 in bumper at Galway (16.6f, soft, 25/1) on NH debut 20 days ago. Tongue strap on for 1st time. 25-1 and trailed home last on soft ground at Galway. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
DANCING DAME found only one too good on debut at Killarney and was short of room in the straight when a creditable third at the Listowel Festival. Tim Doyle's filly should go well if she gets a clear run at things on this occasion. Switch From Diesel has been second to useful types at Ballinrobe on her first two starts and is likely to give a good account of herself again. Alice Morgan represents Wilie and Patrick Mullins, and the daughter of Yeats is fitted with a tongue-tie on debut. She is out of a bumper and hurdles winner from the family of Celestial Gold and Fiveforthree. There was money around for Glens Lullaby before she was scratched from her intended debut at Roscommon due to soft ground. That could be a problem again but John Gleeson is a good booking for the Mount Nelson filly, who is out of a Grade 1-winning hurdler who was unbeaten in three bumpers.
The vote goes to FAMILIAR DREAMS, who arguably posted her best effort yet when runner-up at Wexford in May and she is taken to deservedly get her head in front. Confidence behind likely-looking newcomer Alice Morgan in the betting would look highly significant and she is greatly respected. Switch From Diesel is third choice, albeit only marginally as Dancing Dame is also pretty high on the shortlist.
The Mullins newcomer ALICE MORGAN is out of a bumper winner from a fine jumping family and has to be of strong interest.
Ths is the racecard key.
