1st (2) (9/4 +18%) Dodger Long |
9/4(+18%) | (2) Dodger Long 9/4, Fair form in bumpers and made a solid start over hurdles when 14 lengths third of 5 at Chepstow (2m, heavy) 6 weeks ago. Likely improver who can give Inside Man most to think about. Promising in bumpers; didn't jump well enough on hurdling debut; might fare better here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/1 -10%) Lightning Flash |
11/1(-10%) | (3) Lightning Flash 11/1, Made a winning bumper debut at Ludlow. Has struggled under a penalty twice since but he should be up to making his presence felt in a race like this now hurdling. Ludlow bumper winner on debut; next two bumper runs were disappointing; hurdle debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (80/1 -142%) Ask Me Another |
80/1(-142%) | (8) Ask Me Another 80/1, Well held in 2 hurdles this winter and can only watch again. Safely held in mares' races at Ludlow and Plumpton this winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (4/7 +0%) Inside Man |
4/7(+0%) | (1) Inside Man 4/7, From a good family and has made a positive start to his career, pulling clear with the smart Liari at Wincanton before landing the odds over C&D in December. Hard to beat again. Close second to subsequent dual Listed winner on debut, then won by 8l over C&D next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (40/1 -21%) Pooch |
40/1(-21%) | (5) Pooch 40/1, 22/1 and tongue tied, last of 8 in bumper at Kempton (2m, soft, 22/1) on debut 31 days ago. Dodger Long has to be considered the stable first string Made inauspicious debut when last of eight at Kempton last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (100/1 -100%) Diva B |
100/1(-100%) | (9) Diva B 100/1, Well held in a bumper and maiden hurdle in recent months. Raced too freely when well beaten in Catterick bumper and Hereford maiden hurdle this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (40/1 -300%) Wonderful Delight |
40/1(-300%) | (7) Wonderful Delight 40/1, In good hands but no short-term promise on recent Hereford debut. Showed only minor promise on recent debut but ought to have learned from that experience. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (200/1 -100%) Square Du Roule |
200/1(-100%) | (6) Square Du Roule 200/1, Midfield in 2 bumpers towards the end of 2023 and well held on Hereford hurdle debut 15 days ago. Struggled when a big-priced outsider for recent hurdling debut at Hereford. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (100/1 -300%) Kilberry |
100/1(-300%) | (10) Kilberry 100/1, Bred to need time and distance and no impact in 2 bumpers at the end of 2023. Showed no significant promise in two bumpers towards end of last year; hurdle debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (4) (14/1 +30%) Lord Of All Saints |
14/1(+30%) | (4) Lord Of All Saints 14/1, 150/1, didn't achieve much when 18¾ lengths fourth of 11 to Inside Man on C&D debut (good to soft) in December. Belied big odds and shaped with significant promise when fourth over C&D on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Having made all for a facile win over course and distance in December, INSIDE MAN could be difficult to overhaul with a similar effort, in spite of a 7lb penalty. Dodger Long showed ability in bumpers last year, but ran green on his hurdles bow at Chepstow in January. Entitled to be wiser, Anthony Charlton's gelding still rates the biggest threat to the selection given Wonderful Delight, Diva B and Pooch all need to improve.
Jane Williams won this race last year and has the leading contender again in INSIDE MAN, who can add to his C&D success before Christmas. Dodger Long, the mount of Harry Cobden, can follow him home ahead of bumper-winner Lightning Flash.
After going close on his debut, INSIDE MAN breezed to a very comfortably C&D success on his second outing.

1st (3) (40/1 -60%) Just One Surf |
40/1(-60%) | (3) Just One Surf 40/1, Placed both starts in Irish points but more one for handicaps further down the line judged on his efforts under Rules Placed in two Irish points and in a Market Rasen bumper, but moderate over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) (8/11 +42%) Byzantium |
8/11(+42%) | (12) Byzantium 8/11, Won on his only Flat start in France in the autumn. Has joined a top yard for hurdle debut. Likely tough to beat, particularly if the betting vibes are strong. Won his only start on the Flat in France in October; dam won over hurdles; much respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (12/1 +0%) Tout Sur Moi |
12/1(+0%) | (6) Tout Sur Moi 12/1, Has hinted at promise in bumpers and novice hurdles and there's a bigger performance in him at some point. Has shown ability in bumpers/hurdles; may be one for handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (25/1 -178%) Taritino |
25/1(-178%) | (13) Taritino 25/1, Fair on Flat (stays 1¼m) for Amy Murphy and showed an aptitude for hurdling for new yard at Exeter in November. Out of his depth in Kempton Grade 2 since. Showed promise on hurdles debut and out of his depth last time; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (14/1 -17%) Albert Park |
14/1(-17%) | (11) Albert Park 14/1, Fairly useful form in pair of maidens on Flat for Joseph Patrick O'Brien. Stepped up on C&D hurdle debut when 15 lengths fifth of 11 at Ludlow (2m, soft) 33 days ago. May do better again. Caught the eye when fifth of 11 at Ludlow last month; worth a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (5/2 -25%) Siam Park |
5/2(-25%) | (4) Siam Park 5/2, In second when falling at the last in an Irish point last February and promise when reaching the frame in big-field maiden hurdles at Wincanton (15f, soft) this winter. Looks capable of better and sure to go well. Ability in a point and when twice making the frame over hurdles at Wincanton; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (80/1 -400%) Timeforarum |
80/1(-400%) | (5) Timeforarum 80/1, Failed to progress in bumpers and well held on Hereford hurdle debut. Well backed when well held on hurdles debut; watch market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (100/1 -300%) Summerleaze |
100/1(-300%) | (10) Summerleaze 100/1, Maiden pointer and just modest form over hurdles thus far. Runner-up in four maiden points, but well held in two starts over hurdles at Exeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (250/1 -279%) Barley Gin |
250/1(-279%) | (8) Barley Gin 250/1, No short-term promise in a bumper and novice hurdle this year. Well beaten in a bumper and pulled up on hurdles debut last month; best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (9) (250/1 -150%) Countess Vicky |
250/1(-150%) | (9) Countess Vicky 250/1, 125/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at Chepstow (2m, heavy) on debut 41 days ago. 125-1 when pulled up on her Chepstow debut (2m, heavy) in January. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (1) (10/1 +29%) Express Surprise |
10/1(+29%) | (1) Express Surprise 10/1, Runner-up sole outing in Irish point. Has hinted at ability in a bumper and novice hurdles under Rules but probably more one for handicaps. Second in an Irish point and has shown ability in a bumper/hurdle, but plenty more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (2) (150/1 -200%) Gentlieman Ross |
150/1(-200%) | (2) Gentlieman Ross 150/1, Jelani horse. Dam unraced. Likely best watched on debut. First foal; dam unraced; best watched on hurdles debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (50/1 -317%) Victory Club |
50/1(-317%) | (7) Victory Club 50/1, Point winner who also landed a bumper for Dan Skelton in spring 2022 but not seen since finishing a well-held third on Stratford hurdle debut in August of that year. A watching brief is advised. Point/bumper winner but held on hurdles debut; back with former yard after 19 months off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The betting market will be informative, with the likes of Siam Park, Taritino and Victory Club all rated potential improvers. However, Paul Nicholls has won two of the last five renewals of this contest and the Ditcheat handler can strike again as he sends BYZANTIUM out on a tried and trusted path for his hurdles/UK debut. The selection showed stacks of promise winning his sole start on the Flat in France and is pitched in at a realistic level here.
French-recruit BYZANTIUM will likely be tough to beat on his hurdle debut for Paul Nicholls. Siam Park has shown promise in a couple of similar races at Wincanton and is the obvious one to chase him home.
Preference is for SIAM PARK who has shown plenty of ability in a point and in making the frame in two starts over hurdles at Wincanton.

1st (2) (11/1 -10%) Tintintin |
11/1(-10%) | (2) Tintintin 11/1, Travelled well for long way in a warm race on his Cheltenham reappearance and confirmed that promise when seeing off 7 rivals at Lingfield (2m, good to soft) in December. Wasn't in the same form off this mark at Exeter since, though, and needs to raise his game. Lingfield winner; struggled at Exeter next time but this easier track may benefit him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (5/1 -11%) Doyen Quest |
5/1(-11%) | (4) Doyen Quest 5/1, Made a successful bumper debut at Ffos Las in November and got it right at the third attempt over hurdles in a C&D maiden 20 days ago. Bare form isn't anything to get excited about but he's in top hands and mark for this handicap bow looks fair. Engaged 2.25 Warwick Sunday. C&D maiden winner three weeks ago and the type to pay his way in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 +14%) Inferno Sacree |
12/1(+14%) | (3) Inferno Sacree 12/1, Back down to the mark off which he hit the target at Newton Abbot last year and appeared to be returning to the boil when making the frame in handicaps at Plumpton and Sedgefield in January. Failed to fire over 19.3f last time but will be a threat if able to bounce back. Better expected here than last time (excuses) but others are more intriguing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (5/2 +25%) Just Over Land |
5/2(+25%) | (6) Just Over Land 5/2, Well-bred sort who did the job in good style back from a break/wind op when slamming dual subsequent winner Activist and 3 others in a Lingfield handicap (2m, soft) last month. Up 10 lb but probably has more to offer and he's very much the one to beat. Up 10lb for his Lingfield romp but that was his first run following wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (12/1 +14%) Winterwatch |
12/1(+14%) | (11) Winterwatch 12/1, Three-time winner on the Flat and while his record stands at 0-8 in this sphere, there was nothing wrong with his latest third in a 9-runner C&D handicap (good to soft). Now 2 lb lower and he's worth a second look. Beaten 10l into third over C&D last month and now partnered by a 10lb claimer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (3/1 +50%) Centara |
3/1(+50%) | (7) Centara 3/1, Useful bumper winner who landed the odds in a 14-runner novice over 19f here (good to soft) in December. However, he was safely held back at this course last month and, not for the first time, he didn't look entirely straightforward. Handicap debut. Still has something to learn and could turn out well handicapped off this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (20/1 -11%) John Betjeman |
20/1(-11%) | (9) John Betjeman 20/1, Likeable type who has largely held his form well since landing a 2m Ffos Las handicap last March. Off-colour the last twice but likely to get back on track before long and each-way chance if he does so here. Thoroughly exposed 8yo with a modest strike-rate and well down the pecking order here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (14) (66/1 -136%) Palawan Du Mazet |
66/1(-136%) | (14) Palawan Du Mazet 66/1, Little encouragement so far and huge step forward needed now pitched into a handicap. Limited maiden but these terms are at least more favourable now sent into a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (20/1 +9%) Mardoof |
20/1(+9%) | (1) Mardoof 20/1, Dominant winner of a C&D maiden (soft) this time last year but he went with little encouragement on return/handicap bow at Ascot in December. Dropped 4 lb since but hard to warm to all the same. C&D maiden winner; tough return in an Ascot handicap and could leave that effort behind. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (10/1 -11%) Ca Plane Pour Moi |
10/1(-11%) | (8) Ca Plane Pour Moi 10/1, Lightly-raced maiden who wasn't seen to best effect when seventh of 23 in handicap hurdle at Leopardstown (2m, good to soft) on final start for Colm Murphy on Boxing Day. Shapes as though a stiffer test wouldn't go amiss but he's one to consider nonetheless on debut for new yard. Hood applied. Low-mileage 6yo who was seventh of 23 on handicap debut at Leopardstown on Boxing Day. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (18/1 -13%) Diamatiste |
18/1(-13%) | (12) Diamatiste 18/1, Fourth both starts in points and a fair sort physically. Has shown ability on 2 of his 3 starts in maiden/novice hurdles and it wouldn't be the biggest of surprises were he to take a step forward now tried in a handicap. Plugged on for third in a 2m2f heavy-ground novice at Exeter which was a little better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (40/1 -186%) Lake Manzaleh |
40/1(-186%) | (13) Lake Manzaleh 40/1, Little impact in bumpers/over hurdles and this Irish raider is hard to warm to, for all that this handicap scenario may prove more suitable than the maidens he has contested. Michael O'Sullivan is a notable booking for handicap debut and could be very interesting. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An easy winner at Lingfield on his first start after wind surgery, JUST OVER LAND could have plenty more to give and rates a big player despite the handicapper imposing a 10lb hike for that 18-length success. Paul Nicholls bids for back-to-back winners of this race and his previous course winner, Centara, could be the one to give the selection the most to think about. Despereaux and Diamatiste are a couple of others with each-way appeal.
JUST OVER LAND was in a different parish to his four rivals at Lingfield last month and, with the possibility of better to come, a 10 lb rise is unlikely to be enough to prevent him from going in again. Irish-import Ca Plane Pour Moi shaped better than the bare result at Leopardstown during the Christmas period and he could be a factor on debut for his new yard. If on-song Inferno Sacree won't be far away, while Despereaux and Winterwatch both make some each-way appeal.
Just Over Land has a strong chance but Irish challenger LAKE MANZALEH goes into his first handicap with Michael O'Sullivan booked.

1st (3) (4/1 -33%) Broken Halo |
4/1(-33%) | (3) Broken Halo 4/1, Did the Royal Artillery/Grand Military double at Sandown last term and, having failed to complete on first 3 starts of this season, he put in a clear round when second in this year's running of the Royal Artillery. On a plausible mark and a bold show could be on the way. Kept on gamely for second in military race at Sandown last month; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (9/2 +25%) Laskalin |
9/2(+25%) | (6) Laskalin 9/2, Useful at his best and while he hasn't put his best foot forward so far this season, there were encouraging signs at Lingfield on penultimate start and continues to edge down the weights (now 8 lb below last winning mark). No show at Sandown since but perhaps the new headgear will give him a lift. Hinted at possible return to form two runs ago but was lacklustre last time; headgear on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (4/1 +0%) Enrilo |
4/1(+0%) | (2) Enrilo 4/1, Smart at his best and posted best effort for a while when chasing home emphatic winner Inis Oirr in the Edinburgh National at Musselburgh (31.4f, good to soft). Down another 1 lb (now 4 lb below last winning mark) but latest success came more than 3 years ago and Cobden prefers Broken Halo. Not the force of old but ran well when remote second in Edinburgh National last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/2 -27%) First Lord De Cuet |
7/2(-27%) | (5) First Lord De Cuet 7/2, Remains winless following 11 starts over fences but produced one of his best efforts in this sphere when second to the progressive Anglers Crag at Market Rasen (23.8f, good to soft) in Januay. Below par next time and yet to conclusively prove he stays this far but plenty of positives otherwise. Has mixed record this season but his Market Rasen second in January makes him a big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (4/1 +43%) Jacamar |
4/1(+43%) | (7) Jacamar 4/1, Ended last season on a low-key note but has posted a couple of good efforts since returning to action in December, including when just touched off over 25.7f here (soft) in January. However, this will be his first foray beyond that trip and his subsequent effort at Wincanton was not so good. Went close over 3m1f in January but is on the downgrade and has stamina to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (18/1 -157%) De Rasher Counter |
18/1(-157%) | (1) De Rasher Counter 18/1, All the better for his Chepstow reappearance when runner-up in first-time cheekpieces at Sandown in November. However, he was well held at Kempton since and, now aged 12, it appears that he's not the force of old. Inconsistent veteran; perked up by cheekpieces when second two runs ago but held since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (11/1 +31%) Cyclop |
11/1(+31%) | (4) Cyclop 11/1, Rattled off a quick-fire hat-trick in veterans' handicaps around this time last year and placed 3 times off higher marks than this during the autumn. Form has dipped badly since, though, and he's probably best watched for now. Teenager; well handicapped on early-season exploits but form has slumped in recent months. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
DE RASHER COUNTER failed to fire at Kempton last time but the veteran has every chance of playing a leading role here if reproducing the form of his previous second at Sandown. First Lord De Cuet is another with strong form claims if leaving a poor run behind him on his most recent outing. Cases can be made for all of the remainder but Broken Halo is the pick of them.
The Venetia Williams yard endured something of a blip during the time of LASKALIN's poor effort in the Royal Artillery at Sandown, but the winners have been flowing again of late and the 9-y-o had shaped as though coming to hand when fourth over a trip similar to this at Lingfield previously. His proven stamina will count for plenty and the Williams yard saddled the winner of this race last year. Broken Halo is feared most given doubts surrounding First Lord De Cuet stamina-wise.
Preference is for BROKEN HALO, who posted a pretty good effort last time and might have untapped potential over this sort of trip.

1st (1) (9/5 -30%) Lady Balko |
9/5(-30%) | (1) Lady Balko 9/5, Improved since handicapping, winning by 14 lengths at Hereford before following up at this course shortly after (20 days ago). Leading claims in the hat-trick bid. Fast-improving mare who completed a double with C&D win last month; must be considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/2 +54%) Always Busy |
11/2(+54%) | (5) Always Busy 11/2, Novice winner at Warwick last season but hasn't made much impact handicapping this term, albeit not disgraced when eighth of 16 (12/1) at this course last time. Back up in trip now. Faded rather tamely over 2m3f here last month and has basically become disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (50/1 -257%) Ithaka |
50/1(-257%) | (3) Ithaka 50/1, Landed a gamble in a Wincanton handicap hurdle a year ago. There's been little to shout about since but his mark has come back down and he's worth keeping an eye on in the betting. Out of sorts this season but still worth a check in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (17/2 +39%) Robinsville |
17/2(+39%) | (13) Robinsville 17/2, Pulled up in novice hurdle at Wincanton (24.7f, soft, 22/1) 59 days ago, but said to have breathing problem and has had wind operation since, so could get back on track returning to handicaps. 0-8 over hurdles but form of his C&D fourth in November has worked out well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (20/1 -100%) Mollie Brown |
20/1(-100%) | (12) Mollie Brown 20/1, Lightly-raced maiden who displayed minor promise on second start over hurdles when midfield in 13-runner mares' maiden at Chepstow last April. Pulled up on qualifying run at Wincanton in November but switch to handicaps a plus now following wind op. Market should guide. Tongue strap back on. Very unexposed mare; upped in trip with tongue-tie fitted for handicap debut; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (9/2 +25%) The Midwife |
9/2(+25%) | (9) The Midwife 9/2, Point winner who showed improved form under Rules when striking on her 20.5f Market Rasen handicap debut 34 days ago. A 5 lb rise for that looks fair enough now stepping up in trip. Respected. Scored over 2m4f on last month's handicap and might improve again over 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (28/1 -12%) Captain Marco |
28/1(-12%) | (10) Captain Marco 28/1, Only a hint of ability in three starts to date and, while the longer trip could bring more out of him on handicap debut, a stronger case can be made for others. Unable to land a significant blow in novice/maiden hurdles; up in trip for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (14) (11/1 +21%) Karakoram |
11/1(+21%) | (14) Karakoram 11/1, Won this last year. Mostly below form this season but mark has slipped as a result, so he's well treated if he can mount a revival. Won this off 5lb higher last year but not firing on all cylinders this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (16/1 -60%) Outside Adesa |
16/1(-60%) | (4) Outside Adesa 16/1, Runner-up both outings in Irish points and has improved with each of his 3 starts over hurdles, not beaten far when fifth of 14 in 19f course novice last time, albeit in a steadily-run race. Upped in trip for handicap debut. Promising fifth in 2m3f novice here in December; good 7lb claimer booked on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|B| (6) (11/1 +21%) Getupearly |
11/1(+21%) | (6) Getupearly 11/1, Ended the last campaign with a respectable effort in a handicap at Exeter 10 months ago but hasn't been since, so likely to need the run. Absent since respectable sixth of 18 last April and would appeal more on better ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (11) (25/1 -25%) Bert Wilson |
25/1(-25%) | (11) Bert Wilson 25/1, Reacted well to a visor last season, winning handicap hurdles over this trip at Plumpton and Chepstow. Hard to predict though and one of his lesser efforts at Exeter 89 days ago. Yet to get going this season; revival needed over new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (50/1 -614%) San Fermin |
50/1(-614%) | (2) San Fermin 50/1, Fair bumper winner who made most of good opportunity to open his account over hurdles for Olly Murphy in novice at Market Rasen (23f) back in June. Sold for just £1,500 thereafter though and others more appealing now handicapping/back from 8 months off. Won modest novice race last summer; needs a bigger performance on this stable/hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (50/1 -100%) Hooky Street |
50/1(-100%) | (7) Hooky Street 50/1, Modest hurdler who shaped as if in need of the run at Warwick when last seen 17 months ago. Up against it in the face of a long absence but handicapper has given him a chance at least. Safely held on all three handicaps and not seen since October 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (250/1 -279%) Known |
250/1(-279%) | (8) Known 250/1, Still a maiden and offered nothing on first start since leaving Jonjo O'Neill at Wincanton 23 days ago. Hard to make any sort of case for. Pulled up on last month's stable debut, after a long absence, and has too much to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LADY BALKO arrives here on the back of two wins last month and even a 7lb rise for the most recent of those victories may not be enough to stop her here. That said, The Midwife got off the mark under Rules at Market Rasen a month ago and is an obvious threat to the selection, while San Fermin could also go well.
LADY BALKO is going the right way and is fancied to defy a rise for her C&D success last month. The Midwife was quite impressive when scoring at Market Rasen on her latest outing, so she's regarded as the main threat ahead of handicap-debutant Outside Adesa.
Some of these are still unexposed but the most obvious answer is LADY BALKO (nap), who is bidding to complete a hat-trick.

1st (10) (13/2 +13%) Tonto Foley |
13/2(+13%) | (10) Tonto Foley 13/2, Equipped with a first-time tongue strap when winning 6-runner handicap hurdle at Southwell (15.8f, good) last June. Disappointing next time but there was encouragement in his third at this course on chasing debut. Could build on that. Ran well when third on chase debut here last month, but soft ground would be a concern. |

2nd (7) (13/2 +46%) Mini Yeats |
13/2(+46%) | (7) Mini Yeats 13/2, Maiden hurdler who back on track when fifth at this course last time but will proably need this first chasing experience. 0-10 over hurdles, but frame possibilities if transferring his best hurdles form to fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/1 +38%) Imperial Joe |
5/1(+38%) | (3) Imperial Joe 5/1, Most consistent last term, winning three times (twice here, including this race). Yet to fully recapture that sort of form this season but he's sliding in the weights and this represents a drop in grade. Dual course winner over 2m7f, but has a major question mark against him over this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (7/2 +22%) Gorcombe Moonshine |
7/2(+22%) | (9) Gorcombe Moonshine 7/2, 10/3, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Fontwell (soft) on debut over fences in December. Backed it up with a respectable third at Plumpton on only completed start (unseated last time) since and makes plenty of appeal in a weak race. Successful chase debut in December and was handy when unseating last time; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (7/2 +0%) Filanderer |
7/2(+0%) | (4) Filanderer 7/2, Ran much better on his first start over fences when second at Wincanton (2m), unlucky to bump into a classy rival (now rated 139). Distant second to an improving type at Plumpton since and this could be his chance to get off the mark in this sphere. Runner-up in both starts over fences and the form of each is working out well; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (40/1 -233%) Fancy Stuff |
40/1(-233%) | (6) Fancy Stuff 40/1, Fair bumper winner who failed to progress over jumps for Dan Skelton and went backwards from a mildly promising start for this stable over fences. Others make more appeal. Best efforts on a soft surface and each-way shout if ground remains testing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (17/2 -42%) Lustleigh |
17/2(-42%) | (8) Lustleigh 17/2, Failed to progress from his promising debut for Dan Skelton but first signs of a revival when second in a handicap at Ludlow on just his second chase outing. Well treated if he can build on that. Runner-up at Ludlow last time; shortlisted with the possibility of further improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (12/1 -167%) Joke Dancer |
12/1(-167%) | (1) Joke Dancer 12/1, Unreliable type. Tongue strap on for 1st time, first run since leaving Sue Smith when third of 10 in handicap chase at Thurles (16.3f, soft, 9/1) 27 days ago. Not the force of old but proved he retains some ability last time. Formerly smart and made a promising stable debut at Thurles last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (14/1 -17%) Man Of Light |
14/1(-17%) | (5) Man Of Light 14/1, Back from a lengthy absence when only sixth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Plumpton (15.9f, good to soft) 42 days ago. Should come on for that and he's potentially well treated starting over fences. 1-16; something to prove with his attention now switching to fences; market can guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (40/1 -233%) Ardmayle |
40/1(-233%) | (2) Ardmayle 40/1, Scored over fences at Southwell and Hereford last spring but both efforts this season have left a lot to be desired. Has a bit to prove now. Back off last winning mark, but shown little in a hurdle and a chase since returning. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ARDMAYLE hasn't been in the best of form this season, but Ali Stronge's 12-year-old is down to a competitive mark and, eased in class, a resurgence might be on the cards. Filanderer has occupied the runner-up spot on each of his two starts over fences and is an obvious threat with further improvement likely, while Gorcombe Moonshine could prove to be the best of the remainder.
FILANDERER has made a positive start to his chasing career, beaten by progressive types twice, and this doesn't look quite as strong, so he's worth a chance to open his account in this discipline. Gorcombe Moonshine should be on the premises and Tonto Foley has a bigger effort in him over fences.
The vote goes to FILANDERER who has finished runner-up in both starts over fences and the form of each contest has been given a boost.

1st (4) (9/1 +0%) Just Go For It |
9/1(+0%) | (4) Just Go For It 9/1, Dual 2m5f scorer last term who comes here in decent nick, fourth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Hereford (21.7f, soft) 26 days ago. Needs considering. Ran well over C&D last month but would appeal much more on good ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) (12/1 -20%) Battle March |
12/1(-20%) | (12) Battle March 12/1, Bounced back to form when third of 16 in handicap hurdle at this C&D (good to soft) 34 days ago. In the mix off just 1 lb higher mark. Proved some ability remains when placed in big field over C&D last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (7/2 +0%) Solar System |
7/2(+0%) | (5) Solar System 7/2, Only twice raced over hurdles and off 10 months before an eye-catching fourth of 12 in novice here (16.5f, soft) 20 days ago. Looks to have got in lightly for his handicap debut. Interesting. Fourth in 2m maiden here last month; ought to have improvement to come in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (15) (7/2 +42%) Whynotnowroy |
7/2(+42%) | (15) Whynotnowroy 7/2, Still to get his head in front but he recorded a good second of 9 in handicap hurdle at this C&D (heavy) 11 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Can make his presence felt off an unchanged mark. 0-7 over hurdles but ran well in defeat over C&D last month; can make presence felt again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (8/1 +50%) Lock Out |
8/1(+50%) | (11) Lock Out 8/1, Point winner who also won bumper/novice hurdle on his first 2 starts under Rules. Hasn't kicked on from that (mainly over fences this season) although he is handily weighted if the return to this sphere sparks a resurgence. On dangerous mark now but out of form this season (mostly over fences). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (11/1 -10%) Getmetothemoon |
11/1(-10%) | (9) Getmetothemoon 11/1, Has hinted at promise, seventh of 17 in novice hurdle at Wincanton (15.2f, soft) 59 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Up in trip and can do better now going into handicaps. Yet to build upon mildly encouraging hurdle debut but may do so now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (15/2 +17%) Talimar Pearl |
15/2(+17%) | (2) Talimar Pearl 15/2, Still to get his head in front but arrives in good nick, fifth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Fontwell (22f) 26 days ago. Ought to be thereabouts. Good second in December, after a break, but not quite in same form on either start since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (14/1 -56%) Getuptheyard |
14/1(-56%) | (6) Getuptheyard 14/1, Getaway gelding who wasn't disgraced on his handicap bow when fourth of 12 in handicap hurdle at this C&D (soft, 11/1) 20 days ago. Not discounted. Made pretty good start to handicap career when fourth over C&D three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (16/1 -14%) Highlander Casseul |
16/1(-14%) | (7) Highlander Casseul 16/1, Fair ex-Irish maiden hurdler who made his first impact in Britain when third of 6 at Fontwell in December. Pulled up there following month and needs subsequent wind op to spark improvement. Ran okay two starts ago but quickly back in the doldrums on next outing; had wind op since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (13) (20/1 -82%) Our Dylan |
20/1(-82%) | (13) Our Dylan 20/1, Remains a maiden after 21 runs but he posted a respectable third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Fontwell (17.7f) 6 months ago. Needs to hit the ground running. 0-25 under all codes; respectable third at Fontwell in September but not seen again since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (66/1 -371%) Don Occhetti |
66/1(-371%) | (1) Don Occhetti 66/1, Lightly-raced maiden who came in last of 7 in handicap hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, soft) 26 days ago. Others appeal more. With a good stable and still unexposed but was well beaten on last month's handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (14/1 -27%) I Got Stung |
14/1(-27%) | (3) I Got Stung 14/1, Progressive form in 2m novice hurdles but he disappointed when beating only one on his handicap debut at Hereford last time. Needs to get back on track. Didn't jump well enough on handicap debut but probably still has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (50/1 -257%) Joker De Thaix |
50/1(-257%) | (8) Joker De Thaix 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden under NH rules. 13/2, last of 8 in novice hurdle at Uttoxeter (15.8f, heavy) 44 days ago. Back up in trip now handicapping with something to find. Ran well for a long way in Uttoxeter maiden in December; makes handicap debut here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (80/1 -300%) Beau Haze |
80/1(-300%) | (10) Beau Haze 80/1, Scored at Chepstow in March 2022 but off the track for 22 months since a respectable fifth in handicap hurdle at Ludlow (21.2f). Others are preferred on this occasion. In good form when last in action, but that was spring 2022; best on good/good to soft. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
The vote goes to SOLAR SYSTEM, who would not need to be anything out of the ordinary to defy an opening handicap mark of 95. The five-year-old is a half-brother to three separate winners in France so it would come as no surprise were he to step forward on this occasion. Battle March reached the frame in a similar C&D event last month and a similar performance would bring him firmly into the reckoning. Others to note include Talimar Pearl and Getmetothemoon.
SOLAR SYSTEM caught the eye under a patient ride when fourth in a recent novice here and can build on it to get off the mark now going handicapping off an attractive mark. Fellow debutant in this sphere Getmetothemoon also looks a likely improver and is next on the list, although in-form maidens Whynotnowroy and Talimar Pearl can both have a say too in this open contest.
The suggestion is handicap debutant SOLAR SYSTEM, who moves up in trip after a promising reappearance run over 2m here last month.
Ths is the racecard key.
