1st (1) (8/1 +43%) Astroman |
8/1(+43%) | (1) Astroman 8/1, Long-standing maiden over hurdles who seemed to find his stamina stretched when midfield in 17-runner Uttoxeter handicap (23.3f) on yard debut 15 days ago. This slightly lesser test should suit but he's vulnerable back in maiden company. Ran okay in low-grade handicap on recent stable debut but is 0-17 over hurdles now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (1.5/1 +8%) Shandancer |
1.5/1(+8%) | (3) Shandancer 1.5/1, Fair bumper performer in Ireland and he's reached a similar level over hurdles, producing best effort yet (on back of a wind op) when second at Fontwell (21.7f) 11 days ago. A repeat should see him thereabouts in this field. Back on track with close second at Fontwell recently; features prominently in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (33/1 +34%) Elpologreg |
33/1(+34%) | (7) Elpologreg 33/1, Related to 4 winners and hinted at ability on debut in a Kempton bumper (2m) in February. Not matched that level either start since though, never better than midfield when ninth in 13-runner Exeter bumper 4 weeks ago. Best watched making hurdles debut. Not beaten far on bumper debut but next two bumper runs were very underwhelming. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (14/1 +22%) Joe Cotton |
14/1(+22%) | (2) Joe Cotton 14/1, Dual point winner who is stoutly-bred and duly shaped in kind when finishing distant fifth in 8-runner Kempton maiden (21f) 3 weeks ago. This again likely to prove too sharp for him and he's one for later on. Dual point winner this year but tailed off when switched to hurdling this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (28/1 -56%) The Punt |
28/1(-56%) | (4) The Punt 28/1, Runner-up sole start in bumpers last summer but didn't shape with much short-term encouragement when sixth in 7-runner Uttoxeter maiden hurdle (15.7f) on return to action 15 days ago. This should reveal more at least. Second in a bumper last year but tailed off when reappearing in recent maiden hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (1/1 +20%) Global Famenglory |
1/1(+20%) | (6) Global Famenglory 1/1, Fair hurdler who again ran well to hit the frame for third consecutive time this spring when third at Warwick (25f) 3 weeks ago, keeping on. Merit seemingly established now but she's a definite player on balance. Beginning to look exposed but has been pretty consistent at a fair level; big player here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (40/1 -186%) Crystal Times |
40/1(-186%) | (5) Crystal Times 40/1, Related to winners but hasn't showed much in pair of bumpers 9 months apart, latterly on debut for his present yard 23 days ago. Hood on for hurdles debut. Well down the field in Southwell bumper on stable debut; hooded for hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (66/1 -267%) Pyrrhic Dancer |
66/1(-267%) | (8) Pyrrhic Dancer 66/1, Modest maiden on Flat (stays 16.5f) and turned in a creditable display on back of 9 months off when midfield in 11-runner Wolverhampton handicap (16.5f) for new yard 26 days ago. Still, probably best watched now hurdling. Ran quite well in low-grade AW handicap on recent stable debut; now makes hurdling debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
GLOBAL FAMENGLORY has posted a brace of creditable efforts in defeat since being switched to maiden company in April and looks to have been found a suitable opportunity to gain a breakthrough success. Shandancer arguably posted his best performance to date when runner-up at Fontwell recently and Amy Murphy's gelding is feared most. Astroman has plenty to find with the main protagonists on the ratings, but he still makes most appeal of the remainder.
GLOBAL FAMENGLORY has run with credit in hitting the frame all 3 starts since the turn of the year and, with the drop back in trip holding no fears, she gets the nod to open her account. Shandancer rates the chief threat on the back of his latest Fontwell second 11 days ago.

1st (3) (25/1 -108%) Admiral's Sunset |
25/1(-108%) | (3) Admiral's Sunset 25/1, Won 2 chases in summer 2021 but more miss than hit over fences since. Well beaten over hurdles when last seen at Fakenham in November and likely best watched on first outing since. Had wind operation. Runs this track well and is on a good mark but has become inconsistent in recent years. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8.5/1 -89%) Princess Midnight |
8.5/1(-89%) | (1) Princess Midnight 8.5/1, Had a productive 2022, winning 3 times, latest when making all in similar event at Hereford (20.9f) in October. May have been undone by slower ground when below par at same course the following month and must enter calculations on return here. Free-going front-runner who is suited by good ground; could take some catching. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (3.33/1 -11%) Heneryetta Bay |
3.33/1(-11%) | (5) Heneryetta Bay 3.33/1, Irish point winner who posted an encouraging second of 9 in handicap at Fontwell (21.6f, good to soft) on debut over fences 11 days ago, sticking to task. Entitled to build on that. Stuck to her task pretty well when second on recent chase/handicap debut; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (4/1 +38%) Spot On Soph |
4/1(+38%) | (4) Spot On Soph 4/1, Won a couple of Catterick handicap chases (both 19.2f) in 2021/22 and back to that sort of form when creditable fourth of 9 in handicap at Sedgefield (21.1f, heavy) 37 days ago. Not out of things. Ran pretty well when back over fences at Sedgefield last month; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (9/1 +55%) Sharp Note |
9/1(+55%) | (6) Sharp Note 9/1, Made a winning start over hurdles in 2m novice at Hereford in October but rather went backwards thereafter and remains to be seen if switch to chasing sparks a revival in form. Returns from 4 months off. Won very weak maiden hurdle in October but struggling on handicap debut in January. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (5.5/1 -57%) The Eminent Goose |
5.5/1(-57%) | (2) The Eminent Goose 5.5/1, Finished third on sole start in points in March 2021 and acquitted herself well over hurdles the last twice, latest when second of 8 in novice at Ffos Las (20f, heavy) 60 days ago. Warrants respect on chasing bow. Made the frame in two novice hurdles in March; likely contender on chase/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (3.2/1 +36%) Poet's Reflection |
3.2/1(+36%) | (8) Poet's Reflection 3.2/1, Sound start to chase career, after 11 months off, when placed at Taunton (16.1f) and Exeter (17.5f) this spring. Return to longer trip will suit and is one for the shortlist. Returned from layoff with two good chase runs towards end of last season; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (14/1 -17%) Iconic Rock |
14/1(-17%) | (7) Iconic Rock 14/1, No impact in half a dozen attempts over hurdles. May do better over the larger obstacles (placed sole start in points) but percentage call is to look elsewhere. Safely held in all three handicap hurdles but worth a market check on chasing debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
THE EMINENT GOOSE comes with risks attached given she appeared unsettled at the start of her latest runner-up effort at Ffos Las in March, but she makes her handicap/chase debut off what looks a fair mark and could prove worth chancing. Heneryetta Bay made an encouraging start in this sphere when second at Fontwell last Wednesday and she isn't taken lightly. Poet's Reflection may appreciate this step up in trip and is another to note.
POET'S REFLECTION has aquitted herself well in both starts over the larger obstacles and will appreciate the step back up in trip here. She can land the spoils. Princess Midnight and Heneryetta Bay look the likeliest dangers.
The most appealing option is chasing debutante THE EMINENT GOOSE, who displayed clear promise on her two hurdling starts in March.

1st (6) (9/1 -29%) Nevendon |
9/1(-29%) | (6) Nevendon 9/1, Modest hurdler. Pulled up in claiming hurdle at Clonmel (18.5f, heavy, 14/1) 61 days ago. First run for yard after leaving John McConnell. Tongue strap on 1st time. More needed. Fair fourth in Limerick claimer in January but pulled up in same grade on final Irish run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (1.75/1 +0%) Book Of Secrets |
1.75/1(+0%) | (1) Book Of Secrets 1.75/1, Fair on the Flat and matched that form when placed in a pair of juvenile hurdles in late 2021. Shaped better than the distance beaten after 15 months off at Southwell on return and he's respected Fourth in run-of-the-mill maiden in February, after a layoff; a contender at this level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (0.83/1 +25%) Call Me Rocky |
0.83/1(+25%) | (2) Call Me Rocky 0.83/1, Fair maiden hurdler ran one of his better efforts when fifth of 18 in handicap hurdle at Thurles (16.3f, good to soft, 22/1) 87 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Denis Hogan and has the ability to get involved. Not beaten far when fifth of 18 in Thurles handicap in February; should feature here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (11/1 -38%) Ambush Annie |
11/1(-38%) | (7) Ambush Annie 11/1, Runner-up in pair of ordinary Irish points and failed to see race out when seventh of 11 in novice hurdle (9/2) at Ludlow (21.2f, good to soft) on NH debut 12 days ago. Progress required with cheekpieces applied. Second in two Irish points in autumn; quickly dropped in grade after low-key rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (66/1 +0%) Le Douet Vacu |
66/1(+0%) | (4) Le Douet Vacu 66/1, Once-raced maiden. 66/1, sixteenth of 17 in bumper at Warwick (16f, good to soft) on NH debut 24 days ago. Makes hurdles debut. Tailed off when 66-1 for last month's bumper debut at Warwick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (125/1 +0%) Naasik |
125/1(+0%) | (5) Naasik 125/1, Remains a maiden after 32 runs and offered little following lengthy absence last time. Well beaten off lowly handicap mark last week and now 0-28 over hurdles. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CALL ME ROCKY was last seen finishing a respectable fifth of 18 in a competitive handicap hurdle at Thurles in February and he's fancied to make a winning start for Cian Collins, who makes the long trip over from Ireland to send this sole runner. Book of Secrets is also of interest for a top stable and will go well if running up to his rating of 107, while Ambush Annie completes the shortlist.
BOOK OF SECRETS pulled too hard to be involved in the finish on his return from over a year off at Southwell last time but went through the race as if retaining all his ability and he's fancied to score for the first time over hurdles. Irish-raider Call Me Rocky is another player if putting his best foot forward.

1st (1) (4/1 +20%) First Angel |
4/1(+20%) | (1) First Angel 4/1, Fair maiden who ran right up to best when placed in 2 starts over fences last summer, latterly at Perth (2m) in July. Shaped as if needing the run (on return from 8-month absence) at Market Rasen 61 days ago and merits consideration starting out for new yard. Returned from break with disappointing run in March; now with new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 -14%) Copper Fox |
4/1(-14%) | (2) Copper Fox 4/1, Didn't need to improve when winning mediocre Uttoxeter maiden hurdle in June but took a step forward when runner-up to a subsequent winner at Newcastle when last seen in December. Should make a chaser (runner-up sole start in points) and makes plenty of appeal in this field. Good second on latest hurdling start in December; shortlisted on today's chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (4/1 +50%) Henri Le Bon |
4/1(+50%) | (5) Henri Le Bon 4/1, Only win came when awarded race at Uttoxeter in July. Well held last 2 starts over hurdles and pulled up both previous attempts in this sphere. Well handicapped on some hurdle form but is a risky option on this return to chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (7.5/1 -36%) George Bancroft |
7.5/1(-36%) | (6) George Bancroft 7.5/1, Out of sorts over hurdles and lit up by first-time blinkers on chase bow at Fontwell last month. Ran well to a point on last month's chasing debut but has basically become disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (5.5/1 +0%) Blue Ribbon |
5.5/1(+0%) | (4) Blue Ribbon 5.5/1, Fair 2m hurdles winner for Dr Richard Newland in 2021 but struggled to make a significant impact in handicap chases for current yard last season, beaten 19 lengths when second at Exeter latest. Ran big race under enterprising ride when second at Exeter last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (10/1 -33%) Lonimoss Bareliere |
10/1(-33%) | (7) Lonimoss Bareliere 10/1, Remains a maiden and last 2 efforts were below par. Others preferred. 0-24 under all codes but his Southwell second in March makes him of interest here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (8) (16/1 +20%) Phoebus Lescribaa |
16/1(+20%) | (8) Phoebus Lescribaa 16/1, Veteran who struggled over hurdles last season and easily passed over operating from out of the weights on belated return to chasing. Well beaten on both hurdling starts this year; new headgear tried on this chasing return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (14/1 -250%) Fancy Stuff |
14/1(-250%) | (3) Fancy Stuff 14/1, Fair bumper winner but hasn't progressed over hurdles, finishing weakly at Warwick 3 weeks ago. However, no surprise if she fared better now switched to this sphere (won sole start in Irish points). Soundly beaten in two handicap hurdles this spring; has a point to prove on chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (14/1 +65%) Foillmore |
14/1(+65%) | (9) Foillmore 14/1, Maiden hurdler who ran one of his better races when 14 lengths third in 13-runner Taunton handicap hurdle 919f) 69 days ago. However, will need to step up a good bit to figure now chasing from 4 lb out of the weights (little impact in Irish points). Kept on for modest third over hurdles in March but out of the weights again on chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
COPPER FOX must hold every chance if building upon a strong runner-up effort at Newcastle last December behind a winner that has gone in multiple times since. Good ground is another plus and he can see off the likes of Fancy Stuff and First Angel, who may be a maiden through 11 starts but is very interesting on his first run for new connections.
COPPER FOX arrives with a decent profile over hurdles and has been found a weak race starting out in this sphere. First Angel should come on for his return and is next best starting out for a new yard, with another chasing newcomer Fancy Stuff best of the others.

1st (7) (4.5/1 +0%) Maid Of The Night |
4.5/1(+0%) | (7) Maid Of The Night 4.5/1, Point winner who justified strong support making a winning handicap debut at Hereford (21.5f, good) in February. Fell next time but put that firmly behind her when narrowly scoring at Ludlow (21.2f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Could have more to offer upped in trip. 2-3 since switched to handicaps; could easily have more to offer over this new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/1 +8%) Nora The Xplorer |
11/1(+8%) | (1) Nora The Xplorer 11/1, Pair of mares' novice wins at up to 3m early in 2022 and ran up to best (in first-time blinkers) when third in handicap at Doncaster (19.4f) in January. Another sound effort when occupying fourth spot at Musselburgh a couple of months ago but more is needed back up in trip. Ran okay in series final over 2m4f last time; unexposed over this sort of trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (4.5/1 +0%) Shantou Sunset |
4.5/1(+0%) | (2) Shantou Sunset 4.5/1, Won this corresponding event 12 months ago on final start for Philip Hobbs and having been rather hit and miss after, bounced back to form when scoring over C&D 4 weeks ago. She remains well treated on old form but whether she's in the same mood is another issue. Won this in 2022 and returned to form with C&D success last month; likely contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (1.62/1 -8%) Hello Sunshine |
1.62/1(-8%) | (3) Hello Sunshine 1.62/1, Produced a career best to double her tally over hurdles when scoring with ease on just her second outing for her current yard at Plumpton (25f, good to firm) 7 days ago. Major claims under a penalty provided this doesn't come too soon. Won pretty comfortably by 11l at Plumpton last week; commands respect under penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (50/1 +0%) Ratoute Yutty |
50/1(+0%) | (9) Ratoute Yutty 50/1, Both wins for her yard have come at Huntingdon under this rider but recent efforts have been rather flat. Faces a stiff task from out of the weights. This year's form is uninspiring and she's 8lb out of the weights here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (33/1 +67%) Firefly Lane |
33/1(+67%) | (10) Firefly Lane 33/1, Did reasonably well in points over the winter but offered little in a couple of starts at Exeter in recent months. Well out of the weights and can only be watched. Has struggled on both starts since returned to racing under rules this spring. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (12/1 +40%) Danzini |
12/1(+40%) | (6) Danzini 12/1, Career best when winning 7-runner handicap hurdle at Southwell (24.3f, good) last July. However. followed that with a tame effort at Worcester the following month and probably needed the run after 8 months off at Taunton recently. More needed. Will be suited by today's return to good ground but has more to prove than some. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (12/1 +14%) Treefinch |
12/1(+14%) | (5) Treefinch 12/1, Fair form to twice make the frame in maiden/novice hurdles last term but only seventh on first 2 starts switched to handicap company at Uttoxeter and Huntingdon. Not beaten as far when fifth at Warwick (21f, good to soft) earlier this month and she could hit the frame. Took step in right direction this month but is not straightforward; others look safer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (6/1 +8%) Hellfire Princess |
6/1(+8%) | (4) Hellfire Princess 6/1, Bumper winner who showed very little in her qualifying runs over hurdles but seems to be going the right way now, shaping as in need of further when third of 7 in handicap at Chepstow (23.6f, good to soft) just over 5 weeks ago. Needs considering upped in trip. Kept on for third at Chepstow (2m7f) last month and is not yet fully exposed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
An easy winner at Plumpton last week when stepped up in trip, HELLO SUNSHINE is turned out again quickly under a 7lb penalty and she is taken to follow up. The extra distance should not inconvenience her and she may have too much for C&D winner Shantou Sunset and Maid Of The Night, who has won two of her last three. Hellfire Princess and Nora The Xplorer cannot be ruled out either.
HELLO SUNSHINE was well suited by a longer trip when running out a facile winner at Plumpton last week and, provided this doesn't come too soon, George Baker's 7-y-o is likely to take some stopping in her follow-up bid under a penalty. Hellfire Princess should relish this extra distance so she could be the one to chase home the selection, ahead of recent winner Maid of The Night and Treefinch.

1st (8) (11/1 +21%) Steel Wave |
11/1(+21%) | (8) Steel Wave 11/1, C&D winner who posted a respectable third of 7 in handicap chase at Doncaster (24f, good) 163 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Unreliable type overall, however. A teenager now but has won over C&D and returns from a break on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (5/1 -43%) Herewegohoney |
5/1(-43%) | (3) Herewegohoney 5/1, Made a winning chase debut at Catterick in November but pulled up in handicap chase at Wetherby (24.2f, soft) 145 days ago. Enters calculations if back on song after a break. Off since poor run in December but this point/hurdle/chase winner still has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (4.5/1 -50%) Joly Maker |
4.5/1(-50%) | (4) Joly Maker 4.5/1, Reliable sort who scored at Stratford (19.4f) before fair Southwell fifth later in April. Strong traveller who can't be discounted off a 1 lb lower mark. Finished well to cause 25-1 surprise here on heavy ground last month, his sixth chase win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (5/1 +69%) Ratfacemcdougall |
5/1(+69%) | (7) Ratfacemcdougall 5/1, Racked up 5 wins over hurdles in 2020/21 season but has largely struggled to make an impact since. Mark continues to fall but others are preferred. Out of form over hurdles and his chasing record in 2019 was not convincing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (1.2/1 +56%) Sheldon |
1.2/1(+56%) | (1) Sheldon 1.2/1, Bagged his second chase win at Exeter on New Year's Day and in good nick since, sticking to his task despite a few mistakes when third at Kempton 27 days ago. Very much one to consider eased 1 lb. Won here in the autumn and returns after a perfectly respectable run last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (22/1 -120%) Hunting Percival |
22/1(-120%) | (5) Hunting Percival 22/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time when well-held fifth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Warwick (21f) 12 months ago on his final run for Tom Lacey. Runner-up in a point in March so he's not ruled out on yard/handicap chase debut. Second in a point in March but has a lot more on his plate on this stable/chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Herewegohoney has the ability to figure strongly and could well bounce back after a rare below-par effort when she was pulled up a Wetherby on her latest outing in December. She won a three-runner novices' handicap off this mark on her penultimate start and is open to further progress. However, SHELDON, a previous course winner, looks a shade more attractive and is taken to make the most of the drop in class today. Ratfacemcdougall is also considered.
SHELDON is proving a reliable sort and weighted to bag a third win in this sphere racing off a 1 lb lower mark than when a good recent third in a stronger contest at Kempton. The consistent Joly Maker is next on the list ahead of Herewegohoney, who could also have a big say if freshened up after a break.
This looks a good opportunity for SHELDON (nap), who drops in grade after a very respectable third in 0-135 company last month.

1st (3) (2/1 +43%) Parade Away |
2/1(+43%) | (3) Parade Away 2/1, Shaped quite well on debut and duly built on that fitted with a tongue tie when second of 7 in bumper at Haydock (15.6f, good to firm) 8 days ago, clear of the rest. Looks the one to beat. Runner-up at Haydock last Saturday and leading form claims for last year's winning yard. |

4th (1) (6.5/1 -63%) Get The Value |
6.5/1(-63%) | (1) Get The Value 6.5/1, Getaway gelding who would probably have won but for greenness when third at Newton Abbot on debut in July. Matched that form when second at Warwick 2 months later and he's a big player if returning at that level. Promise on both starts last year and returns with trainer's horses running well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (150/1 +25%) Persian Willow |

7th (9) (16/1 -60%) Taghadoe |
16/1(-60%) | (9) Taghadoe 16/1, €15,000 3-y-o, Mount Nelson gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler Here Comes Johny and bumper winner Emzara. Irish raider so worth a market check. Has travelled from Ireland to make his debut and he's one to be interested in. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (8.5/1 -89%) Renoir |
8.5/1(-89%) | (8) Renoir 8.5/1, Nathaniel gelding. Half-brother to 4 winners on Flat, including useful winner up to 1m Thrave. Dam 7f winner. Promsing start when third at Bangor last month despite being denied a clear run. Denied clear run when third at Bangor on debut and he's firmly in calculations. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
PARADE AWAY seemed to get better the further he went in a similar race at Haydock on his latest start. The fitting of tongue-tie (retained today) might well have been the prompt for the improved effort and another step forward looks possible from the Milton Harris-trained gelding. Get The Value has also shown a lot of promise in two previous starts and is feared most, although King Of Tara is nicely-bred newcomer to consider.
PARADE AWAY was well clear of the rest when runner-up to a useful filly at Haydock last week and a repeat of that form may well be enough to see him go one place better. Get The Value is a definite threat on his return to action, while King of Tara and Sforza Castle are perhaps the pick of a reasonable bunch of newcomers.
Haydock runner-up Parade Away is a strong contender but preference is for RENOIR, who was a promising third at Bangor on debut.
Ths is the racecard key.
