1st (5) (10/3 +26%) Magic Mike |
10/3(+26%) | (5) Magic Mike 10/3, Dual 2m hurdles winner in the spring who shaped encouragingly when third of 9 in handicap chase at Hexham (15.6f, good) 27 days ago. Has more to offer so needs considering. Dual hurdle winner in spring and was pretty good third when back over fences last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (5/6 +0%) Lusitanien |
5/6(+0%) | (4) Lusitanien 5/6, Fair maiden hurdler for Ewan Whillans but he made an impressive winning yard/chase debut in 8-runner handicap at Worcester (16.5f, soft) 21 days ago, always travelling smoothly. Big shout despite a 8 lb hike in the weights. Clearcut winner on last month's stable debut at Worcester; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (10/1 +60%) Uncle O |
10/1(+60%) | (7) Uncle O 10/1, Unreliable individual but not disgraced when sixth of 10 in handicap chase at Warwick (16.2f, good) 8 days ago. It's now 18 runs since his last win in 2021. Has very modest strike-rate but runs this track well and can't be ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (15/2 +25%) Ballymagee |
15/2(+25%) | (1) Ballymagee 15/2, Modest form over hurdles and when fourth of 6 on his chase debut at Perth (20.1f, good to soft) 63 days ago on his final run for Caroline McCaldin. Tongue strap back on with more needed for his new handler. Ex-Irish 7yo who was last of four finishers on chasing debut; now with new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (22/1 -57%) Estate Italiana |
22/1(-57%) | (6) Estate Italiana 22/1, Got off the mark at Ludlow (2m) in February but below form since, beating only one at Worcester (16.5f, soft) 21 days ago. Hard to make a case for. Won off this mark at Ludlow in February but subsequent form has been disappointing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (22/1 -144%) Atlantic Storm |
22/1(-144%) | (2) Atlantic Storm 22/1, C&D winner. Spoiled chance with a blunder 3 out when fifth of 6 in handicap chase at Stratford (17f, soft) 33 days ago. Can bounce back. Well below best this season but handicapped accordingly now; can make presence felt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (16/1 -14%) Kings Justice |
16/1(-14%) | (3) Kings Justice 16/1, Modest maiden hurdler who came in only sixteenth at Exeter (18.5f, good to soft) 165 days ago. Makes his chase debut after breathing surgery with plenty to prove. 0-8 over hurdles; combination of switch to fences and wind op needs to enable improvement. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LUSITANIEN secured a comfortable victory at Worcester over an extended 2m on his latest outing and an 8lb rise might not be enough to prevent him from going in again. Magic Mike was far from disgraced when third at Hexham last time and he should go well off a 1lb lower rating, while Uncle O continues to drop in the ratings and could get into contention.
Fergal O'Brien's LUSITANIEN got off the mark in great style at Worcester on his chase/yard debut and is hard to oppose despite being raised 8 lb in the weights. Magic Mike seems sure to figure prominently too if, as expected, building on his recent Hexham third. C&D winner Atlantic Storm can have a say too.
The most obvious answer is LUSITANIEN, who looked revitalised when winning on his chasing debut at Worcester three weeks ago.

1st (3) (9/4 +59%) Snipe |
9/4(+59%) | (3) Snipe 9/4, Duly landed the odds in a 2¾m Ffos Las maiden back from a break in February. However, little impact in a couple of handicaps since and improvement needed now switched to fences following another break. Maiden hurdle winner in February; should have more to offer over fences this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/5 +20%) Swapped |
6/5(+20%) | (1) Swapped 6/5, Bumper winner who didn't progress over hurdles but has sprouted wings since switched to fences, winning 2 of his 3 starts in this sphere for Nicky Henderson. Completed the hat-trick with a commanding performance on debut for new yard here (25.8f, good to firm) last month. Obvious claims. Completed hat-trick with wide-margin course win (3m2f) on last month's stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (7/1 -27%) No Regrets |
7/1(-27%) | (4) No Regrets 7/1, Notched second success over fences when landing a 6-runner Hexham handicap (24.2f, good) in June. 3 lb rise fair enough but the form of that race looks pretty shaky and he'll probably need a career-best in order to follow up here. 2-3 over fences with cheekpieces added in spring; back from four-month break today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (15/2 -7%) Donnie Azoff |
15/2(-7%) | (5) Donnie Azoff 15/2, Runner-up on first 2 starts in this sphere, albeit one of those races was a match and he hasn't looked a natural over fences. Back in the winning groove when taking a small-field novice hurdle last month but probably worth taking on now returned to the larger obstacles. Dual 2m hurdle winner this year; has also run well over fences; first attempt at 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (10/1 -186%) Tango Echo Charlie |
10/1(-186%) | (2) Tango Echo Charlie 10/1, Winner of a Uttoxeter handicap hurdle last year and perfect start over fences when scoring at Fontwell (21.6f, good) in August. Undoubtedly helped by the runner-up's jumping going to pieces late on there, and now has a 9 lb higher mark to contend with, but he's unexposed as a chaser. Kept on stoutly to win by 9l on chasing debut at Fontwell (2m5f) in August. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
SWAPPED won with his head in his chest at Southwell when making his first start for the Charles & Adam Pogson stable, which brought up the hat-trick for the son of Sinndar. He has been hit with an 11lb hike for that victory, but that could still underestimate his ability. The main threat is Tango Echo Charlie, who was a winner himself at Fontwell last time and he could get involved off 9lb higher, while No Regrets is another to consider on the back of his Hexham success.
SWAPPED was predictably hit hard by the handicapper following his facile victory on debut for new connections here last month, going up 11 lb. However, he barely broke sweat that day and probably has enough in the locker to complete the four-timer. Tango Echo Charlie made a winning start in this sphere at Fontwell and rates the main danger ahead of No Regrets.
All of these have something going for them but SWAPPED was seen to very good effect here on last month's stable debut and is selected.

1st (1) (5/6 +31%) Mystic Man |
5/6(+31%) | (1) Mystic Man 5/6, Has won all his completed starts over fences, making all starting out for Harry Derham over C&D last month, jumping well. More to come. Won comfortably over C&D on last month's stable debut and is now 3-4 over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (4/1 +33%) Bensini |
4/1(+33%) | (7) Bensini 4/1, Hurdles winner who matched his form switched to fences despite lacking something in sharpness at Fontwell last month. Could build on that. Battled well for hurdle win in July and was second on last month's chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (11/2 +8%) Supasunrise |
11/2(+8%) | (6) Supasunrise 11/2, Mixed record over hurdles but opened account in this sphere when taking Huntingdon handicap (19.9f) on Boxing Day. Not in much form when last seen but returns with his yard flying. Won off this mark on Boxing Day; contender if back on song after summer break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (11/2 -22%) Dirk Gently |
11/2(-22%) | (5) Dirk Gently 11/2, Typically looked hard work but made a decent go of it on his first go chasing at Worcester under this rider 5 weeks ago. One to consider. Stuck to his task very well when second on chasing debut at Worcester five weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (28/1 -75%) Mrs Kinsella |
28/1(-75%) | (4) Mrs Kinsella 28/1, Some fair runs without winning over hurdles but little impact for all she faced a stiff task on her first stab chasing at Uttoxeter 3 weeks ago. This is easier and tongue tie goes back on. Well beaten on recent chasing debut but placed on three of six hurdle starts for stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (40/1 +0%) Edmond Dantes |
40/1(+0%) | (3) Edmond Dantes 40/1, Market Rasen winner for Ruth Jefferson in February 2022 but low-key start for this yard there in June. Safely held on stable debut in June and returns from break with quite a bit to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
MYSTIC MAN justified favouritism with ease over C&D last month but was hit with an 11lb hike for that success. However, considering the manner of that victory he could be well up to the task on only his second start for the Harry Derham stable. Dirk Gently filled the runner-up spot at Worcester last time and has to be considered off only 1lb higher, while Bensini is also of interest sporting first-time cheekpieces.
MYSTIC MAN can go on improving and another victory looks on the cards. Dirk Gently might be the danger.
Progressive 6yo MYSTIC MAN (nap) has taken well to chasing this year and he always looked in command when making all here last month.

1st (1) (8/11 +39%) Butch |
8/11(+39%) | (1) Butch 8/11, Took another significant step forward when opening account in 5-runner novice hurdle at Uttoxeter (19.9f, soft) in March, finding extra headed briefly run-in. Ran at least as well in defeat on Wetherby handicap debut (21.1f) next time and remains open to improvement with 3m likely to suit. Game 2m4f novice winner in March and creditable second on subsequent handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (9/4 +44%) Destroytheevidence |
9/4(+44%) | (3) Destroytheevidence 9/4, Fair in bumpers and showed improved form to get off the mark at the second attempt over hurdles in 5-runner novice at Worcester (23f, good to soft) in May, despite again hinting at temperament. Ought to be competitive under a penalty. Drew clear to win by 10l at Worcester (2m7f) in May; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (18/1 +55%) Private Pike |
18/1(+55%) | (6) Private Pike 18/1, Pether's Moon gelding. Dam (c69/h105), 19f hurdle winner, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser (stayed 3½m) Indifference Curve. Saddle slipped up home turn in a Worcester bumper on debut. Off 17 months. Upped markedly in trip for hurdle bow. In process of running well before slipping up on bumper debut; back from 510-day absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (22/1 -214%) Kayce Dutton |
22/1(-214%) | (4) Kayce Dutton 22/1, Unpromising in points/bumpers but proved a different proposition sent hurdling up in trip when landing 15-runner maiden at Cork (24f, good to soft) 81 days ago, always holding on. Left Ms Margaret Mullins for £15,000 in August. Won Cork maiden for Margaret Mullins in July; needs another step forward on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (15/2 -150%) Tzarmix |
15/2(-150%) | (5) Tzarmix 15/2, Improved again to get off the mark in 10-runner novice hurdle at Chepstow (19.4f, good to soft) in March, well on top finish. Off 6 months. Up in trip. First run for yard after leaving Sam Thomas for £70,000. Clearcut winner at Chepstow in March; now with new stable after £70,000 sale. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
DESTROYTHEEVIDENCE hand plenty in hand when getting off the mark at Worcester in May and the son of Kayf Tara is hard to oppose on his return to action. That said, Butch has also shown a high level of ability already and he could give the selection plenty to think about. Tzarmix is another with valid form claims, while Cheltenam De Vaige is the pick of the remainder.
BUTCH was very much going the right way over hurdles towards the end of last season and, with the step up to 3m likely to suit on his return, this looks a good opportunity for him to resume winning ways. Tzarmix rallied well to get up in the closing stages at Chepstow in March and may do better still for his new yard, especially over this sort of trip, with Destroytheevidence capable of making his presence felt, too.
Destroytheevidence is respected but preference is for BUTCH, who brings a solid piece of handicap form back into novice company.

1st (9) (9/1 +73%) She's A Rocca |
9/1(+73%) | (9) She's A Rocca 9/1, Hasn't fired since winning here last summer but may strip fitter for her recent return at Bangor. Cheekpieces tried, so not without hope despite being 1 lb wrong at the weights. 2m course winner last summer but safely held all three runs since; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/8 +50%) Heross Du Seuil |
11/8(+50%) | (3) Heross Du Seuil 11/8, Easily best effort for this stable when landing an 8-runner handicap at Uttoxeter a fortnight ago. Remains well treated on old form and makes plenty of appeal again. Returned to form at Uttoxeter a fortnight ago and recent 7lb rise looks manageable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 +55%) Could Be Trouble |
5/1(+55%) | (4) Could Be Trouble 5/1, Fairly useful hurdler who wasn't disgraced at Cartmel when last seen four months ago. Cheekpieces back on and mark is becoming lenient. Not firing on all cylinders when last seen in spring but too well handicapped to rule out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (5/1 -25%) Roll With It |
5/1(-25%) | (5) Roll With It 5/1, Upped his game wrong when scoring at Market Rasen in July and, for all that he failed to back it up, he remains with potential now tongue tied on handicap debut. Well beaten on two of three hurdling starts but won Market Rasen novice in between. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (22/1 -57%) Baileys Derbyday |
22/1(-57%) | (2) Baileys Derbyday 22/1, Fair 14f winner on Flat who got off the mark over hurdles in 2m maiden here in June. Yet to build on that and his mark looks high. Won 2m Worcester maiden in June but safely held in 2m4f handicap there in August. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (7/2 +30%) Redbridge Rambler |
7/2(+30%) | (8) Redbridge Rambler 7/2, Promise in bumpers and sound start to hurdles career when third of 11 at Uttoxeter in May. Excuses both starts since (might have needed the run at Stratford latest), so not one to write off switched to handicaps. Twice a beaten favourite since promising hurdle debut but still enters calculations. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HEROSS DU SEUIL bounced back to form with a decisive victory at Uttoxeter a couple of weeks ago and he clearly sets the standard, despite a 7lb rise for that success. Redbridge Rambler has shown some promise in maiden events and could take a big step forward now switched to handicap company, while Dom Perry and Could Be Trouble should not be underestimated on their return to action.
HEROSS DU SEUIL bounced back to capitalise on a lenient mark at Uttoxeter and has plenty of handicapping scope based on past efforts, so he's preferred to the lightly-raced Dom Perry, who could return to form after a break. Throne Hall is another one to consider.
It might be worth chancing the fitness of 2m course winner DOM PERRY, who is quite well handicapped on his seasonal debut

1st (3) (13/2 +0%) Feel The Pinch |
13/2(+0%) | (3) Feel The Pinch 13/2, Resumed winning ways in 4-runner handicap chase at Ffos Las in May and followed up back hurdling in another small-field affair at Bangor (16.7f, good). Well held in the mud at Cartmel on most recent outing. Bounce back required. 3-7 for this stable but was lucky to collect the latest win; others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (10/1 +50%) Stonific |
10/1(+50%) | (8) Stonific 10/1, Won the Summer Hurdle at Market Rasen for David O'Meara in July 2021 but doesn't look anything like the force of old based on his recent hurdle/Flat efforts. Regressive 10yo who was safely held at Market Rasen (a track he likes) on Saturday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (15/2 +6%) Polyphonic |
15/2(+6%) | (6) Polyphonic 15/2, Fairly useful 11f winner on Flat for Karl Burke who got off the mark over hurdles at the second attempt in a Fontwell juvenile in December. Has proven more consistent than progressive since but has made an interesting stable switch. Won for Milton Harris on Boxing Day; joined burgeoning new stable during the summer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (33/1 -500%) Elham Valley |
33/1(-500%) | (2) Elham Valley 33/1, Retuned to form with blinkers refitted when running away with a 8-runner selling handicap hurdle at Stratford (18.7f, good) 24 days ago. Has left Fergal O'Brien and is 4 lb higher in a stronger race. Bought after winning a selling handicap last month; faces tougher assignment today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (10/11 +52%) Sergeant Wilson |
10/11(+52%) | (4) Sergeant Wilson 10/11, Got back on track in first-time hood when landing 2m novice hurdle at Fakenham in February. Shaped like the best horse at the weights (did too much too soon) when collared on line in 2m Doncaster handicap prior to being pulled up at Sandown on final outing. Worth another chance on return. Pulled up in hot race at Sandown in April but has good claims if judged on earlier form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (33/1 -230%) Socialist Agenda |
33/1(-230%) | (5) Socialist Agenda 33/1, Fair handicap hurdler who posted a good effort when second of 5 in a Musselburgh handicap in December. Below form since and achieved only modest form at best in 5 Flat starts this summer. Enough to prove back over hurdles. Useful form in early 2022 but has become disappointing; needs to turn a corner. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (7/2 +75%) Byzantine Empire |
7/2(+75%) | (1) Byzantine Empire 7/2, Landed pair of small field handicap chase events (at around 2m) in 2022. Progress stalled in that sphere thereafter and not at his best back over hurdles/on Flat recently. 7-lb conditional takes over in the saddle. Dropped 2lb since respectable sixth in Summer Hurdle; likes this track; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (66/1 -1000%) Ithaka |
66/1(-1000%) | (7) Ithaka 66/1, Justified support dropped in grade when landing Wincanton handicap in March. Never looked like following up off the same mark on chasing debut there a week later but makes his seasonal return back over hurdles with his yard very much amongst the winners. Watch betting. Improved to win at Wincanton (2m5f) in March; safely held on chase debut a few days later. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
ELHAM VALLEY had plenty in hand when winning a selling handicap at Stratford last month and could well be up making a winning start for the John Cornwall yard. In truth, this doesn't appear to be a much tougher assignment for the six-year-old and there is a lot to like about his chances here. Feel The Pinch is respected off the same mark as when he won at Bangor in June, while Sergeant Wilson and Polyphonic are also shortlist material.
SERGEANT WILSON is undoubtedly a quirky customer, but he looked the likely winner for much of the race only to be reeled in on the line in a Doncaster handicap in March and makes plenty of appeal on his return with his yard amongst the winners. Polyphonic is a consistent sort who could take his form up to a new level having joined the upwardly-mobile stable of James Owen, with Ithaka another to keep a close eye on in the betting.
The most interesting runner is POLYPHONIC, who is on a workable mark and has joined a burgeoning new stable.

1st (4) (7/2 +36%) Haveyougotmymoney |
7/2(+36%) | (4) Haveyougotmymoney 7/2, Encouraging return from a break recently, again second at Hexham last time. Looks capable of defying this mark and is worth a chance to go one better. Placed in three of four handicaps this year and still unexposed over this sort of trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (10/3 +79%) Fantomas |
10/3(+79%) | (8) Fantomas 10/3, Fortunate to score over fences at Uttoxeter (3m) in September and hasn't really threatened back over hurdles since his next outing, acknowledging his latest fourth at Worcester was a respectable effort. Back from a break with stable in excellent form. Didn't run badly on latest outing but has not been firing on all cylinders this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (11/2 -38%) Barely Famous |
11/2(-38%) | (9) Barely Famous 11/2, Dual hurdles winner this time last year for this yard but has made a discouraging start to her chasing career this summer. Return to this sphere could spark a revival. Pulled up in a chase on Saturday but now 12lb below her latest winning hurdle mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (7/2 +0%) Catuaba |
7/2(+0%) | (3) Catuaba 7/2, Won at Warwick in May. Fell in handicap hurdle (11/10) at Huntingdon (25f, good) 127 days ago, going off too hard. Remains with plenty of potential. Held when falling in May but improved to win on handicap debut earlier that month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (17/2 -70%) Blazing Court |
17/2(-70%) | (1) Blazing Court 17/2, 16/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, second of 11 in handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (19.9f, good to soft) 76 days ago. Up in trip. Others more persuasive. Good second when upped to 2m4f for handicap debut in July; up in trip again here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (40/1 +39%) Betty's Belle |
40/1(+39%) | (6) Betty's Belle 40/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2021. First run since leaving Ben Pauling when eighth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Worcester (23f, good to soft, 33/1) 30 days ago. Others make more appeal. Second twice for Ban Pauling this season but struggled on last month's stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (6/1 +14%) Let It Shine |
6/1(+14%) | (5) Let It Shine 6/1, Modest form in a trio of starts over hurdles last season, but more promising signs lately and longer trip should suit. 0-6 over hurdles but made the frame on last two outings; tries a new trip today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (20/1 +70%) Moirai |
20/1(+70%) | (11) Moirai 20/1, Has offered little thus far, including both starts in handicaps, so hard to make a compelling case for. Safely held in her first two handicaps (2m7f/2m5f); improvement required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (22/1 -57%) Oneway Express |
22/1(-57%) | (10) Oneway Express 22/1, First form when third of 10 in handicap at Bangor (23f, good) a couple of months ago but failed to back it up at Worcester last time. Creditable third on handicap debut but has since performed poorly; needs to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (50/1 -317%) Royal Max |
50/1(-317%) | (2) Royal Max 50/1, In top hands but hasn't achieved any better than modest form in 2 bumpers/over hurdles. Fourth on the Flat 2 months ago and it's still early days for him in this discipline. Third over 2m on handicap debut for Nicky Henderson; hiked up in trip for stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (50/1 +24%) Ulysses |
50/1(+24%) | (14) Ulysses 50/1, Unreliable type who comes here out of form. Without a win since 2021 and this year's Flat/hurdle form is very uninspiring. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HAVEYOUGOTMYMONEY looked to have been revitalised by a wind operation and first-time cheekpieces when a close second over an extended 2m7f at Hexham last month. With the headgear retained, the five-year-old could make amends and go one better here. Royal Max is an interesting contender on his debut for new connections, while others to consider include Blazing Court and Catuaba.
HAVEYOUGOTMYMONEY found only one too good again last time and is worth chancing to go one better for all that this looks quite competitive. The unexposed Catuaba is a big danger if he gets his own way in front and Let It Shine can't be ruled out.
He fell when last seen in May but CATUABA drew nicely clear of the others with a progressive rival when scoring on his handicap debut.
Ths is the racecard key.
