(5) Legendary Day 11/1, Made winning start on yard/hurdles bow at Sedgefield in November 2022 and has won 4 times on the level since. Recent efforts on the level have been poor, though, and he needs to get back on track now tackling fences.
Quite useful on the Flat; won novice on hurdles debut; quite interesting on chase debut.

(9) Icare Grandchamp 28/1, Lightly-raced ex-French hurdler who was a good second in 19f Fontwell handicap on reappearance in September. However, he was too keen at Plumpton later that month and then failed to make an impact on chase debut when last seen in November.
Ex-French; patchy form over hurdles and well beaten on chase debut; bit to prove.

(3) Homme D'un Soir 9/1, Pretty useful hurdler/chaser for Stuart Crawford in his prime. Posted his best effort since joining this yard when second in a 6-runner handicap hurdle at Uttoxeter (15.8f, soft) recently and he's one to consider off the same mark back in this sphere.
Won beginners chase in 2022; in decent form hurdling; a possible now going back chasing.

(12) Abaya Du Mathan 7/1, Has done well since joining current connections, winner of a match over C&D in January and a 12-runner handicap chase at Warwick on penultimate start. Paid the price for chasing a strong pace at Bangor recently and he's in with an each-way shout.
Veteran; suited by good ground; 2m winner in April; lesser run on easier going last time.

(6) Post No Bills 25/1, Bagged 3 handicap chases in 2023, readily making all at Plumpton (17f, good) for latest success in September. However, he hasn't put his best foot forward in 3 starts since returning from a break in March.
Three chase wins on good ground; not so good recently; on a good mark and conditions suit.

16/1(-14%)
(8) Texard 16/1, Easily best effort for this yard when wide-margin winner at Market Rasen (17.2f, good to soft) in April. Not in the same form both subsequent starts, though, and will likely find at least one or two too good once more.
Winner off 5lb lower in April; not quite as good since; conditions suit; a possible.

22/1(+0%)
(7) Romanor 22/1, Keen sort and usually held up (best delivered late), tactics which very nearly paid off at Newton Abbot in September. Well below par since, though, and he's probably worth taking on, for all that he is on a good mark if able to get back on track.
Experienced chaser; 8lb lower than when close second in September; conditions suit; chance.

(4) Chase A Fortune 13/2, Bettered hurdles exploits when making a winning chase debut following a wind op at Catterick (15.7f, soft) in February. By no means disgraced in 3 subsequent starts and shapes as though he'll benefit from this switch to a sharper track.
Catterick winner on chase debut and fair efforts since; third off this mark last time.

(1) Sea Prince 12/1, While it's been a struggle since he opened his chase account at Stratford back in August 2022, this 8-y-o boasts a good record when fresh (form figures read 1U22 following breaks of around 6 months or more) and the handicapper has given him a chance.
Goes well fresh; 2nd here on comeback for past two years, in 2023 off 7lb higher mark.

14:15 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Further improvement cannot be ruled out from the hat-trick seeking Mystic Man and Harry Derham's inmate warrants respect on his return to action. However, this drop in distance could be against the seven-year-old and fellow last-time-out scorer TROPICAL TALENT edges the verdict. The Nathaniel gelding is unexposed in this sphere and further glory is likely. Chase A Fortune also enters the reckoning having posted a solid third at Hexham last month.

Provided he's ready to roll following a eight-month break, MYSTIC MAN may well enhance his already impressive record over fences. He admittedly made rather hard work of things when landing the odds here last time but he's only gone up 1 lb for that and it's possible that this front-runner will be suited by dropping back to the minimum trip. Isocrate will be a threat if his jumping passes the test on this chase debut, while Tropical Talent is third choice ahead of Homme d'Un Soir.

The vote goes to the well-handicapped ROMANOR who has conditions to suit and should improve for last month's reappearance run.

(1) The Wolf 6/1, Useful but temperamental 10-y-o who snapped a long losing run when striking at Perth (3m, soft) last spring. Largely underperformed since and he's probably worth taking on, for all that the handicapper has shown mercy.
Useful handicap form but ran miserably in a hunter chase last time out.

Crystal Moon

(4) Crystal Moon 9/2, Wasted little time over hurdles and has shown himself in a far better light since switched to fences, scoring at Huntingdon on Boxing Day and Hereford in January. Creditable third to in-form rivals back from a break at Plumpton (25.7f, good) and he's a key player in first-time cheekpieces.
Went up 12lb for his Hereford win and that looked a factor when third at Plumpton.

Tom Creen

11/4(+45%)
(7) Tom Creen 11/4, Back-to-back Sedgefield winner in October/November and has remained in good form since, beaten just over a length when third to Taste The Fear over C&D last time. Enjoys a handy pull at the weights with that rival and should make his presence felt.
In-form chaser with form here and capable amateur Tom Broughton claims a useful 5lb.

(2) Taste The Fear 3/1, Has returned to form with blinkers enlisted the last twice, landing back-to-back good-ground C&D handicaps. 6 lb rise for latest success looks fair given that he wasn't hard-pressed and he'll prove a tough nut to crack.
2-2 here since the blinkers went on but another 6lb rise asks a question of him.

0-4 hurdling but placed the once and this former pointer might well make a better chaser.

14:45 Southwell Handicap Chase (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

The fitting of blinkers has enabled an uplift in performance from TASTE THE FEAR, who scored a shade cosily when completing a double over C&D last month. A further 6lb rise in the ratings looks more than workable for the nine-year-old and a third consecutive victory could beckon. The biggest threat may emerge from the Nicky Richards-trained No Regrets, who regained the winning thread at Kelso in May, while first-time cheekpieces could eke out some improvement from Crystal Moon.

TASTE THE FEAR is very much back in the groove and a third consecutive C&D success is on the cards for this 9-y-o. He may have most to fear from Crystal Moon, who hasn't done a great deal wrong since switched to fences and wouldn't need to improve much for the fitting of cheekpieces to play a leading role here. Tom Creen is also accorded respect, while Do No Wrong will have a fighting chance if able to put his low-key reappearance behind him.

The 9yo TOM CREEN has done all his winning over fences at Sedgefield but he has form here and Tom Broughton's claim will come in handy.

15:15 Southwell NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ROCKOLA VOGUE offered plenty to work with on her third-placed debut over C&D last month and that race experience should stand her in good stead moving forwards. The daughter of Jukebox Jury holds the most compelling claims and edges the vote over Ava's Angel, who boasts a similar profile. Sam England's filly is entitled to build on her placed opening bid at Hexham in May and she isn't taken lightly, while market support for newcomer Charisma Cat would be interesting.

CHARISMA CAT boats the right sort of pedigree for bumpers and represents an excellent yard, so a winning debut would come as no surprise. Irish-representative Silver Pageant also requires a market check, while Wilmcote and Rockola Vogue both shaped with promise in different C&D bumpers on the same card a month ago.

The newcomers are interesting, notably the well-bred CHARISMA CAT and Irish challenger Silver Pageant.

15:45 Southwell NH Flat Race (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

Jamie Snowden can do well with newcomers and he could have another decent sort on his hands with SCREENED, who is from the family of the smart Banjaxed Girl and her dam won twice over hurdles. Letterston Lily looks the pick of those with experience after an encouraging placed effort at Haydock last month, while Either Way and Shakiyra are others to consider.

LETTERSTON LILY sets a reasonable standard after a couple of bumper runs and is taken to make that experience count. It will be interesting to see what Shakiyra can do this time having been turned over at odds-on for her debut, with Queens Venture respected given the yard she's joined from points.

It was a tough starter for LETTERSTON LILY at the Grand National meeting and she showed enough at Haydock to get the vote.

16:20 Southwell Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

Emmett Mullins looks to have found an ideal opportunity for BACKMERSACKME, who went from competing in a Grade 1 at the Punchestown Festival to a sixth-placed finish in a Tipperary maiden hurdle last month. A determined winner of a bumper at Ludlow in April, Hell Hound is a key player on his hurdles bow, along with Skyjack Hijack and Traditude Tara.

Bumper-winner BACKMERSACKME disappointed bearing in mind his hurdling debut promise at Tipperary last time but he retains obvious potential and is well worth another chance. Hell Hound overcame a positional bias to land a Ludlow bumper in April and is an interesting hurdling newcomer, while Traditude Tara may fare best of the rest.

It's a mystery as to what happened at Tipperary but BACKMERSACKME had been looking a good prospect. He has Hell Hound to beat.

16:50 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

A capable sort on the level, MOSTLY SUNNY has done well since joining the Dan Skelton yard and a mark of 102 could underestimate him on his handicap debut, following a taking success at Huntingdon recently. Now that the penny has dropped for Chicago Gal after her victory at Market Rasen, she looks to be the main danger, as well as Foster's Fortune and the unexposed Glimpse Of Glory.

Lots with chances but Dan Skelton's upwardly-mobile hurdler MOSTLY SUNNY looks to start life in handicaps on a handy mark so gets the verdict. Glimpse of Glory is another with better days ahead of him now he goes handicapping and rates a big threat. Several others are also worthy of consideration, notably For Three, Inigo and Dragonball Prince.

A good few to consider but FOSTER'S FORTUNE (nap) looked a different horse on good ground at Sedgefield and can follow up.

17:20 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

POZO EMERY beat The Big Lense (second) by a head over course and distance earlier in the month, with the form being franked after the third, McGowan's Pass, scored at Uttoxeter next time. The nine-year-old is only 3lb higher for that triumph and he can confirm the form with his reopposing rival to record a double. As for the latter, he should remain competitive and is likely to prove the main threat once again, while Elham Valley is another to consider after his second over 2m here last time.

LIPA K arrives better than ever over fences and looks to have got in lightly back in this sphere so edges the vote in a highly competitive handicap. Elham Valley heads the list of dangers on the back of his very good recent second here, although Belvedere Blast also needs considering with his fifth here last time under his belt. C&D 1-2 Pozo Emery and The Big Lense also command plenty of respect in an intriguing contest.

It was all very easy for LIPA K when making it 2-2 for this yard over fences at Bangor last week. He's off the same mark here.

17:50 Southwell Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ROCKY HILL kept on to hit the frame over 2m4f at Ffos Las earlier in the month, which suggests this step up in trip could eke out improvement. Tom Lacey's seven-year-old was dropped 1lb for that performance and he could be the one to beat. Stripe Of Honour was just touched off when second over track and trip on his latest outing and he holds an obvious chance off a 4lb higher rating, while last-time-out winner Eric Carmen is another to keep a close eye on.

There are races in MALAGO ROSE and she's chanced in first-time cheekpieces now faced with quicker conditions. Jeteye, Rocky Hill and Eric Carmen are among the other likely players.

The choice is FINE BY ME who shows his best form fresh, has conditions to suit and is on a good mark. Rocky Hill is next best.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.

There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.

The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.

In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
