1st (5) (8/1 -60%) Big Bee Hive |
8/1(-60%) | (5) Big Bee Hive 8/1, Hurdles winner in Ireland and perfect start over fences when scoring at Sedgefield (19.3f, heavy) in February. Jumping wasn't so slick when beaten favourite upped to 21f at the same course next time but an even bigger concern here is the drying ground. A win and a second to an improver on his two chase starts; headgear back on; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/5 +54%) Happy Du Mesnil |
4/5(+54%) | (1) Happy Du Mesnil 4/5, Maiden hurdler who didn't entirely convince initially over fences but got his act together, not least in the jumping department, when scoring over this C&D (good) in good style last week. Obvious claims under a penalty. Off the mark for new yard with 10l win over C&D last week; should go well with his penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (9/2 +0%) Benny Silver |
9/2(+0%) | (7) Benny Silver 9/2, Remains a maiden following 10 starts overall but has finished second or third on 8 occasions, including on each of his 3 starts at up to 21f in this sphere. This step back up in trip looks a good move (tapped for toe when third over 2m at Hereford when last seen in January) and he's a key player. 0-10; placed all three starts over fences, notably when 3rd over 2m5f on good; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (18/1 -80%) Hattons Gardens |
18/1(-80%) | (3) Hattons Gardens 18/1, Winner of fifth start between the flags and posted arguably his best effort under Rules to date when fourth in a 15-runner handicap hurdle at Hexham last spring. However, little impact both subsequent starts and improvement needed now sent chasing. 3m Irish point winner; patchy form hurdling; headgear back on; bit to prove on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (25/1 -150%) Honneur De Sivola |
25/1(-150%) | (8) Honneur De Sivola 25/1, Point winner who has found just one too good on 4 of his 7 starts over fences. Still, finding at least one too good does appear to be something of a habit for him (0-10 under Rules) and he again looks vulnerable for win purposes. Winning Irish pointer; several fair efforts over fences; conditions suit; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (10/1 +17%) Nimbus Boy |
10/1(+17%) | (6) Nimbus Boy 10/1, Switch to handicap company/addition of a tongue tie did the trick at Hereford where he opened his hurdles account in January. However, has followed that with a series of lesser efforts and will need to raise his game now tackling fences. Not at his best since hurdle win in January (good to soft); bit to prove now chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (12/1 -118%) Tellmesomethingood |
12/1(-118%) | (2) Tellmesomethingood 12/1, Low-mileage 6-y-o who was narrowly denied in a 2m Plumpton handicap hurdle in December. Has failed to build on that since (underwent a wind op following latest start) but would have a chance if able to get back on track now switched to fences in first-time cheekpieces. 0-9 over hurdles; fair run last time; wind op since; headgear added for chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (66/1 -450%) Caro Des Flos |
66/1(-450%) | (9) Caro Des Flos 66/1, Took advantage of a career-low mark to end a long losing run in handicap chase at Market Rasen in November. Followed up off 8 lb higher there next time but the wheels came off up a further 8 lb back from a break at Hereford last month, albeit he did look rusty that day. Below par latest but two wins earlier last season; conditions suit but up in the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (50/1 -52%) Champagne Town |
50/1(-52%) | (4) Champagne Town 50/1, Produced a couple of decent efforts around this time last year but very little to shout about in 3 starts since returning from a break/wind op in September. Chase debut. Won Irish point; best hurdles run when 2nd here last May; poor form since; chase debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Oliver Greenall and Josh Guerriero have their string in fine fettle at present and HAPPY DU MESNIL gets the vote to back up last week's C&D victory. A sounder surface appeared to bring about the improvement required and it wouldn't be a surprise if the seven-year-old had a bit more to offer over the larger obstacles. Benny Silver has shown a consistent level of form in three chase starts and has to enter calculations along with Big Bee Hive.
The obvious starting point is HAPPY DU MESNIL, who jumped with greater accuracy than in his three previous chase starts when scoring over C&D last week. He is taken to follow up under a penalty, most likely at thge chief expense of Benny Silver. It'll be interesting to see how Tellmesomethingood shapes up in the betting ahead of this chase debut, while Big Bee Hive has decent enough form claims but the drying ground is a worry where he is concerned.
The selection is BENNY SILVER who returns after a break with his stable in fine form. The penalised Happy Du Mesnil is next best.

1st (12) (13/2 +35%) Jessie Lightfoot |
13/2(+35%) | (12) Jessie Lightfoot 13/2, As good as ever when scoring at Taunton (26f) last month and unsuited by the race developed when third at Ffos Las (23.8f) 7 days ago, finishing with running left. Should continue in form. Finished well for Taunton win two starts ago but probably needs a career-best effort here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 +57%) James Jet |
6/1(+57%) | (1) James Jet 6/1, Winning pointer who showed benefit of a wind op when landing handicaps over hurdles/fences during the winter. Seen just 3 times since the turn of the year and didn't fare all that well when seventh of 9 in handicap chase at Ludlow (23.8f) 3 weeks ago. Cheekpieces go on now. Game winner on chase debut in December but not much has gone to plan since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (8/1 +0%) Bbold |
8/1(+0%) | (2) Bbold 8/1, Dual course winner who is a fair chaser nowadays and his latest Taunton third confirms he still has plenty to offer, travelling best before tiring late on. Possibly made his effort earlier than ideal then and worth considering eased back in trip. In the frame all three starts for this stable and runs this track very well; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (11/1 +31%) Est Illic |
11/1(+31%) | (13) Est Illic 11/1, Pair of 2m wins at the end of 2020 and whilst he's drawn a blank since, did go close to ending the drought at Huntingdon (23.6f) 3 weeks ago, collared close home. Should be thereabouts again but others preferred for win purposes. Ran big race in defeat at Huntingdon last month but effectively 6lb higher here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (16/1 -60%) Noche Negra |
16/1(-60%) | (8) Noche Negra 16/1, Bright start over fences when winning handicaps at Catterick/here earlier this year. However, he's run well below that level both starts since and visor needs to have positive effect now upped in trip. Dual chase winner in early 2024 (2m3f/2m4f); flopped last time; still low mileage. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (5/1 -25%) Coniston Clouds |
5/1(-25%) | (9) Coniston Clouds 5/1, Hurdles winner last spring and struck at first time of asking over fences at Catterick (19.2f) in November. Took a nasty fall next time but confirmed himself still one to be interested in when third at Ayr (20.5f) in March. Unexposed at this trip and shortlisted. Lightly raced 8yo; took well to fences last season and is unexposed over 3m; good chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (10/1 -100%) Rostello |
10/1(-100%) | (5) Rostello 10/1, Not straightforward but put it all together under a good ride when winning 4-runner C&D handicap 6 weeks ago, leading 4 out and quickening clear. Whether he'll be in the same form here in questionable, however. Won four-runner C&D event last month and now 6-31 over fences; enters calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (11/4 +45%) Jeteye |
11/4(+45%) | (11) Jeteye 11/4, Runner-up on completed start in points and promise over hurdles, best effort to date when second of 13 on C&D handicap debut 3 weeks ago. Feasible to think he can do better again now tackling larger obstacles. Second over hurdles here last month (heavily backed); now makes chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (11/1 +21%) Love Actually |
11/1(+21%) | (10) Love Actually 11/1, Hurdles/chase winner who confirmed himself back in better form faced with stiffish task when fourth of 7 in handicap chase at Taunton (23f) in February. This more suitable back from a break and she's now operating 6 lb below last winning mark. Did not hit top gear during light campaign last season but eases in grade today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (33/1 -200%) Shanty Alley |
33/1(-200%) | (6) Shanty Alley 33/1, Sixteen runs since last win in 2021 and he hard a hard race when finishing last of 3 in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (24f, heavy, 10/3) 38 days ago. Blinkers on 1st time but percentage call to look elsewhere. Seems badly to have lost his way this year; needs good boost from today's headgear switch. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (50/1 -456%) Glengeever |
50/1(-456%) | (7) Glengeever 50/1, Point winner/dual winner over hurdles who made most of good opportunity when landing 2-runner Exeter novice chase (24.2f) in October. Absent/undergone wind surgery since but more on his plate returned to handicaps following 7 months off. Not seen since winning a match race in October but resumes on a good mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (50/1 -150%) Atakan |
50/1(-150%) | (3) Atakan 50/1, Dual winner at Plumpton for Joe Tizzard during 2022/23 campaign but very lightly raced since and not got near that level in trio of starts for present stable in recent months. Cheekpieces added to usual tongue tie and comes here on the back of wind surgery. Tough to assess. Pulled up on last two outings; had recent wind op; cheekpieces now added. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
JESSIE LIGHTFOOT scored off a 4lb lower mark at Taunton on her penultimate start and has similar conditions in her favour in her attempt to get back to winning ways. Glengeever was last seen taking a match contest at Exeter in October and a subsequent wind operation might aid his cause further. Others for the shortlist include Noche Negra and Coniston Clouds.
CONISTON CLOUDS showed no ill effects of a heavy fall when finishing a good third over fences at Ayr (20.5f) in March and, still unexposed in this sphere/including at this longer trip, he earns the vote to confirm himself on a handy mark. Bbold ran a solid race when third at Taunton last time and he's a danger eased back down in trip. Love Actually and chase-debutant Jeteye are others to consider.
After a promising start to his chasing career at about 2m4f last season, CONISTON CLOUDS could have untapped potential over 3m.

King Roly |
(2) (16/1 +36%)16/1(+36%) | (2) King Roly 16/1, Out of a bumper winner and showed a bit to work on when fifth at Hereford 175 days ago, Not seen since and needs to take a marked step forward. Stayed on for modest fifth on debut at Hereford in November; not seen again since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (11/1 +45%) J J Moon |
11/1(+45%) | (1) J J Moon 11/1, Hinted at ability when fifth in a Wincanton bumper but failed to build on it at Kempton next time. Has been off 3 months. Made quite encouraging debut in December but was never involved on second start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (10/1 +38%) Barrabool |
10/1(+38%) | (10) Barrabool 10/1, Just poor form in a couple of bumpers to date, fifth at Uttoxeter on latest, and unlikely to be heavily involved. Not beaten far in soft-ground bumpers at Chepstow and Uttoxeter this spring; e-w claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (3/1 -50%) Moorsbrook |
3/1(-50%) | (9) Moorsbrook 3/1, Stepped up markedly from her debut wehn third at a huge price in 18-runner event at Cheltenham and that piece of form sets the standard if she's able to repeat it. Definite player. Creditable third of 18 in good-quality mares' race at Cheltenham last month; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (17/2 +29%) Woodythewoodpecker |
17/2(+29%) | (8) Woodythewoodpecker 17/2, €20,000 3-y-o, Doyen gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful hurdler/smart chaser Robin des Foret and fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Port Melon, stayed 3½m. Likely to need further but worth a market check. From a very good jumping family; well worth considering on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (11/2 +21%) Hot Goddess |
11/2(+21%) | (11) Hot Goddess 11/2, Much improved from debut when third of 7 over C&D 40 days ago, keeping on well close home. One to consider for all that she needs to step forward again. Well beaten on debut but stayed on for 66-1 third over C&D (heavy) last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (5/1 -166%) Yakaleo |
5/1(-166%) | (6) Yakaleo 5/1, Out of a winning hurdler/chaser and offered plenty of encouragement when third at Musselburgh on debut. Only sixth at Ayr next time but has had a break since and now tried in a hood, so could get back on track. Disappointing favourite on second start but can still build upon very promising debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (10/3 +67%) Slide Rule |
10/3(+67%) | (3) Slide Rule 10/3, Champs Elysees gelding. Dam, bumper winner, half-sister to useful chaser (stayed 3m) Coningsby. One to note on debut. Wears tongue strap. Makes plenty of appeal on paper for a yard that does well in this sphere. First foal; dam bumper winner, half-sister to useful chaser Coningsby; market may guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (80/1 -21%) Neptune House |
80/1(-21%) | (7) Neptune House 80/1, £20,000 3-y-o, Elusive Pimpernel gelding. Dam (c111) 2m-25f chase winner. Likely to need more time. Out of a hunter chase/prolific point winner; might be one for further down the line. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (25/1 -150%) Suivez Moi |
25/1(-150%) | (5) Suivez Moi 25/1, From a good family but failed to beat a rival at Wetherby 101 days ago and now triied in a tongue strap. Quite well backed on debut but dropped out tamely as though something was amiss. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (40/1 -100%) Spanish Buttons |
40/1(-100%) | (4) Spanish Buttons 40/1, Spanish Moon gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to useful hurdler/smart chaser (stayed 21f) Lady Buttons. Worth monitoring in the betting. First foal from unraced half-sister to smart and prolific bumper/jumps winner Lady Buttons. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SLIDE RULE represents a stable that does well in bumpers and the five-year-old, who is related to some useful performers, makes plenty of appeal on paper. Moorsbrook defied her 250/1 odds when third in a Cheltenham bumper last month and a repeat of that effort would see her enter the reckoning. Yakaleo may benefit from the application of a hood having taken a step backwards after his close-up debut third.
MOORSBROOK left her debut form well behind when third in a better race than this at Cheltenham last time and she's capable of opening her account if in the same form. Yakaleo is a threat and Slide Rule is the best of the newcomers on paper.
Preference is for MOORSBROOK, who displayed huge improvement when a commendable third at massive odds at Cheltenham last month.

Chattamento |
(7) (9/1 +10%)9/1(+10%) | (7) Chattamento 9/1, Stepped up on her debut and shaped better than the result when fourth at Fakenham (made effort out wide) last time. Could take another step forward. Close fourth at Fakenham last month but probably needs to improve again here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (10) (8/1 -33%) St Irene |
8/1(-33%) | (10) St Irene 8/1, Malinas filly. Dam (h111), 17f-2¾m hurdle winner, half-sister to bumper winner (stayed 3m over hurdles) Seren Rouge out of useful hurdler/fairly useful chaser (winner up to 25f) Bayrouge. Out of a fair 2m1f/2m6f hurdle winner; trainer does pretty well in bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/1 +27%) Mountain Mike |
2/1(+27%) | (3) Mountain Mike 2/1, Mount Nelson gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fair hurdler Southport and fair staying hurdler/chase winner Chu Chu Percy. Interesting Rules newcomer. Placed on Irish point debut a year ago; new stable does well in bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (15/2 +38%) Kashchei |
15/2(+38%) | (6) Kashchei 15/2, £10,000 3-y-o, Telescope gelding. Half-brother to bumper winner/fair chaser Do You Think. Dam (c110/h130) 2m-2¾m hurdle/chase winner (stayed 3m), also 16.5f winner on Flat. Interesting on paper. Out of a Flat/useful jumps winner; stable has bumper winners; could have a say. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (4/1 -33%) Land Of Moon |
4/1(-33%) | (2) Land Of Moon 4/1, Backed and shaped encouragingly first time up under a ride of exaggerated patience in Lingfield AW bumper in December and, while he disappointed at Doncaster next time, he can get back on track faced with a quicker surface after 4 months off. Safely held in big field on second outing but debut third at Lingfield was promising. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (15/2 +6%) Jukebox Joker |
15/2(+6%) | (5) Jukebox Joker 15/2, €14,000 3-y-o, Jukebox Jury gelding. Brother to bumper winner Star Walking, and half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler/chaser Uptown Harry. Dam unraced. One to note if the market speaks in his favour. Half-brother to useful Irish jumper Dont Kick Nor Bite; well worth a glance in the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (28/1 -12%) Grenardier |
28/1(-12%) | (1) Grenardier 28/1, Bred for further and looked more one for the longer term when sixth at Exeter on debut 25 days ago. Others are more appealing. Beaten about 21l when 33-1 for last month's debut at Exeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (6/1 +14%) Cyclonic |
6/1(+14%) | (8) Cyclonic 6/1, Showed more than first time up when third of 7 in bumper at Fakenham (16f, good to soft) just over 6 weeks ago, staying on gradually straight. Will need to improve again. Ran on well to snatch third at Fakenham last month but this race looks stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (22/1 -214%) Dartmouth Rose |
22/1(-214%) | (9) Dartmouth Rose 22/1, Dartmouth filly. Dam (c101/h110) 3m/25f hurdle winner. Not an obvious sort on paper. Dam fair staying hurdler for these connections; trainer has good bumper strike-rate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (40/1 -21%) Threeandahalf |
40/1(-21%) | (4) Threeandahalf 40/1, Related to a point winner but didn't offer a great deal at Ayr 6 months ago and others are more persuasive. In rear throughout when 25-1 for debut at Ayr in November. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
CYCLONIC showed marked improvement from her first to her second start when staying on well late in the piece for third at Fakenham last month. Tom Weston's filly can uphold form with Chattamento (fourth), who admittedly has a very narrow margin to make up, while Land Of Moon has strong claims if bouncing back to the form of his debut third at Lingfield. Mountain Mike and St Irene look to be the pick of the newcomers.
JUKEBOX JOKER is related to several winners, including a bumper winner, and the bar isn't set all that high, so he's worth a chance to make a successful start. Land of Moon can play a part if back on track and point-recruit Mountain Mike is a player.
This rules debut comes after a one-year absence but MOUNTAIN MIKE was placed in what has turned out to be a fairly good Irish point.

1st (5) (2/1 +20%) Grivetana |
2/1(+20%) | (5) Grivetana 2/1, Well backed and in process of running well when falling last in handicap hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, good) on final outing in November. Has left Paul Nicholls but has joined another good stable. Interesting. Fair for Paul Nicholls; became disappointing; ground fine; needs to revive for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/2 +45%) Elham Valley |
11/2(+45%) | (6) Elham Valley 11/2, Shaped as if back in form on first run since leaving John Cornwall after 5 months off when third of 12 in handicap hurdle (33/1) at this course (20.4f, good) 21 days ago. Merits consideration back down in trip. Four-time winner for Fergal O'Brien; best run since when 3rd over 2m4f here last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (100/1 -400%) Mick Maestro |
100/1(-400%) | (2) Mick Maestro 100/1, Dual winner over hurdles in 2022 but hasn't shown much for some time. Well beaten when last seen out; on a good mark and could fare better now down in grade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/4 +50%) Classic Anthem |
11/4(+50%) | (1) Classic Anthem 11/4, Expensive recruit from the Irish pointing field who made a successful switch to handicap company at Sandown (2m) in December. Good second in 20.5f novice at Plumpton next time but below par last 2 outings, including after a 12-week break back at aforementioned Sandown last time. 2m Sandown winner in December and good 2nd next time; not so good since; good ground fine. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (33/1 -340%) Belvedere Blast |
33/1(-340%) | (4) Belvedere Blast 33/1, Clicked in blinkers last summer, completing a hat-trick at Hexham in June. However, raced lazily when disappointing all 3 starts since and has plenty to prove returning from 7 months off. Lost his way last year, but three wins on good in the summer and a chance if back to form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (20/1 +0%) Clear The Runway |
20/1(+0%) | (7) Clear The Runway 20/1, Out of sorts since 2022 and ran badly after 8 months off when pulled up at this course 3 weeks ago. Mark continues to fall but has plenty to prove, nonetheless. Five wins on the trot in 2022 (three chases, two novice hurdles); not as good since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (8/1 -33%) Hiconic |
8/1(-33%) | (8) Hiconic 8/1, Took advantage of reduced mark when winning handicaps at Warwick and Worcester (both 2m) at the start of last season. Ran below form at Hereford on final outing in November but could get back on track after a break. In fine form on good ground last year; feasibly treated; could go well after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (14/1 -40%) Barrichello |
14/1(-40%) | (3) Barrichello 14/1, Ran below form all 3 starts last season but has slipped appreciably in the weights and may fare better now returned to less testing ground following a break. Not been at his best since two wins in early 2022; well treated now; quite interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (13/2 -117%) Wolfburg |
13/2(-117%) | (9) Wolfburg 13/2, Took another step forward when landing 2m Catterick maiden hurdle in February. Into handicaps now and should have more to offer. Maiden hurdle winner in February; unexposed sort handicapping for first time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The Sandy Thomson yard is in good form and this looks like an ideal opportunity for WOLFBURG on his handicap debut following a taking success at Catterick in February. The unexposed five-year-old gets the vote ahead of Grivetana, on her first run for a new stable, and Classic Anthem, who should appreciate the drop in grade. A talented mare on her day, Hiconic should enjoy these conditions on her first run of another summer campaign.
GRIVETANA was in the process of running creditably when departing at Hereford on her final outing for Paul Nicholls 6 months ago and, having joined another good yard since, she's put forward as the answer. Wolfburg may do better still now venturing into handicaps, while Elham Valley shouldn't be taken lightly having shaped as if back in form before the lack of a recent run perhaps told here 3 weeks ago.
In a tricky race, the vote goes to HICONIC who was in fine form on good ground last summer. Belvedere Blast should also run well.

9/4(+55%) | (2) Haarar 9/4, Showed a lot more than first time up over hurdles when second at Uttoxeter (15.8f) last month and found only one too good back on the level at Thirsk 10 days ago. Can progress further as a hurdler given his Flat form and very much of interest. Fair Flat racer; kept on for second over hurdles last month; probably has more to offer. |

2nd (1) (25/1 -79%) Cusack Park |
25/1(-79%) | (1) Cusack Park 25/1, Disappointed bearing in mind bumper debut promise when only sixth of 8 at Hexham (16.2f, heavy) 22 days ago. Switches to hurdles now. Safely held in two heavy-ground bumpers; improvement needed on hurdling debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (10/3 -48%) Kioto Sun |
10/3(-48%) | (7) Kioto Sun 10/3, Ran to a fair level when third in Ffos Las bumper last autumn and filled the same position under a considerate ride on his hurdle debut there back in November. Seemingly not the easiest to train but entitled to improve. Not seen since promising hurdle debut in November but still enters calculations here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/1 -75%) Jackpot Cash |
7/1(-75%) | (4) Jackpot Cash 7/1, Improved from hurdling debut when third of 8 in a Ludlow novice (15.8f, soft) in February but failed to improve with his response off the bridle and again found little at Huntingdon last time. Hood on for 1st time. Below form on latest outing but his Ludlow third in February makes him a player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (9/4 -13%) Just Gino |
9/4(-13%) | (5) Just Gino 9/4, Bought for £100,000 after winning sole start in Irish points in March and shaped as if better for the run on his hurdle/Rules debut at Bangor in December, racing freely and fading. That form has worked out and he's likely to improve. Irish point winner; made rather underwhelming rules debut but still has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (80/1 +20%) Jysuis |
80/1(+20%) | (6) Jysuis 80/1, Fair form when placed all 3 starts in bumpers in France but has shown very little both starts over hurdles for new stable. Did not show a great deal on first two hurdling attempts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (33/1 +0%) Pacific |
33/1(+0%) | (11) Pacific 33/1, Looks one for low-grade handicaps a bit further down the line. Respectable fifth on recent stable/hurdle debut; needs to build on that effort here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) (150/1 -650%) Kuma Beach |
150/1(-650%) | (13) Kuma Beach 150/1, Showed nothing in a C&D bumper last month. Last of seven in heavy-ground course bumper on last month's debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (14/1 -87%) Amberelli |
14/1(-87%) | (12) Amberelli 14/1, Schiaparelli filly. Half-sister to fairly useful 19f/2½m hurdle winner High Treason and fair hurdler Steal My Sunshine. Makes appeal on pedigree and well worth a check in the betting with Sean Bowen booked. Half-sister to a fair hurdle winner; Sean Bowen a good booking on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (20/1 +70%) Scalloway Castle |
20/1(+70%) | (8) Scalloway Castle 20/1, No promise in 2 bumpers and a maiden hurdle. Has left Philip Kirby. Tongue strap on for 1st time (also had breathing op). Struggled on hurdle debut; had wind op since; now with new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (80/1 +20%) Ravanelli |
80/1(+20%) | (9) Ravanelli 80/1, Tailed off both starts over hurdles. Displayed minor promise on bumper debut but tailed off in two hurdle races since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (250/1 -25%) Darquesse |
250/1(-25%) | (10) Darquesse 250/1, Looks of no account on early evidence. Hooded for 1st time. Well beaten a massive odds on all four hurdling starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (3) (125/1 -89%) Ill Reef |
125/1(-89%) | (3) Ill Reef 125/1, Regressive in bumpers and has made little impact in a brace of novice hurdles. Sets out for another new stable in a first-time tongue strap. French bumper winner in 2023 but soundly beaten in Lingfield novice hurdle in February. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
KIOTO SUN shaped well on his first start back from an absence when third at Ffos Las in November, splitting two subsequent winners, and it will be no surprise if he can take the gold medal on his return to the track. Point-to-point winner Just Gino made no more than a satisfactory start to life under Rules when fifth at Bangor in December, but better can be expected from him. Haarar is also noteworthy having finished second in a similar contest at Uttoxeter on his last start over timber.
HAARAR can go on progressing as a hurdler given his fairly useful Flat form and is narrowly preferred to expensive Irish pointer Just Gino, who contested a race that's worked out well on his Rules debut at Bangor back in December and seems sure to improve. Kioto Sun is presumably not the easiest to train but still has to enter calculations for an in-form stable.
If judged on his Flat ability, Uttoxeter runner-up HAARAR is open to significant further improvement over hurdles.

Hillsin |
(4) (3/1 +40%)3/1(+40%) | (4) Hillsin 3/1, Remains a maiden following 19 starts over hurdles but, to his credit, he has finished in the money on several occasions, including when returning from a wind op/3-month break on second start for this yard at Exeter (18.5f, good). High on the shortlist. Back on song when 2nd to a major improver at Exeter last month; one to consider strongly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (7) (17/2 +66%) Knacker Trapper |
17/2(+66%) | (7) Knacker Trapper 17/2, Modest in bumpers and similar standard in this sphere to date. Others preferred. Unplaced all five completes hurdle races; this switch to better ground may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (10/3 -33%) Giulietta |
10/3(-33%) | (6) Giulietta 10/3, Related to some useful performers in these silks and she has performed with credit on each of her 3 completed starts in handicap company, finding just one too good at Ludlow (21.2f, good) last time. Likely to be in the thick of things once again. 0-8 over hurdles but ran big race in defeat last month and looks ready to strike soon. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (40/1 -21%) No Quarter Asked |
40/1(-21%) | (12) No Quarter Asked 40/1, Sole win came in handicap chase at Ffos Las in June 2021. Runner-up in a couple of handicap chases during the winter but pulled up on latest start at the beginning of February and hard to know what to expect of him back over hurdles. Regressive 9yo with very modest 1-29 strike-rate under all codes. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/2 +75%) Top Of The Bay |
7/2(+75%) | (2) Top Of The Bay 7/2, First piece of worthwhile form when third of 9 in a handicap chase here (20.4f, good) last month. 2 lb lower back hurdling and wouldn't be without an each-way chance if able to build on that in a first-time tongue strap. Placed over fences here last month and reverts to hurdling on a 2lb lower mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (13) (40/1 -60%) Lily Baloo |
40/1(-60%) | (13) Lily Baloo 40/1, Down the field in bumpers and, having offered little in 3 novice hurdles, she again ran poorly (pulled up) on handicap debut at Market Rasen (20.6f, heavy) last time. Pulled up on handicap debut but the ground was heavy; remains unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (4/1 -14%) Our Nel |
4/1(-14%) | (3) Our Nel 4/1, Made the frame all 3 starts over hurdles and positive start in this sphere when third in a 7-runner Fakenham handicap (21.2f, heavy) in December. However, she was again too keen at Taunton last time and will need to settle better back hurdling with a tongue strap enlisted. Just a respectable fourth over fences last time but back hurdling on a workable mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (10/1 +38%) Western Jill |
10/1(+38%) | (1) Western Jill 10/1, Showed plenty to work on making hurdling debut when third in novice event here last February. However, she failed to build on that in 4 subsequent starts, including when hooded for the first time (retained) when last seen here 11 months ago. Safely held on handicap hurdle debut here a year ago and not seen again since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (12/1 -20%) Hubbel Bubbel |
12/1(-20%) | (9) Hubbel Bubbel 12/1, Showed glimmers of ability in maiden/novice company and bettered his handicap debut effort when a creditable third in a 10-runner contest at Sedgefield (19.8f, heavy) in March. Each-way chance if able to build on that now that he encounters faster ground. Placed at Sedgefield in March; further progress is possible on today's better ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (12/1 +64%) Mizuma |
12/1(+64%) | (10) Mizuma 12/1, Winner of just one of his 11 starts between the flags and record stands at 0-14 under Rules. Blinkers applied. Safely held on all four chase/hurdle starts for this stable; blinkers tried today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (15/2 -67%) Jongleur D'etoiles |
15/2(-67%) | (8) Jongleur D'etoiles 15/2, Failed to meet expectations on sole bumper outing and well held all 4 starts over hurdles. However, wouldn't be the first from this yard (and certainly not in these famous silks) to take a big step forward on this handicap debut. One to note in the betting. Showed no significant promise in qualifying races but still worth a look on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (20/1 -100%) Fly Awhile Johnny |
20/1(-100%) | (5) Fly Awhile Johnny 20/1, Winless following half-a-dozen runs between the flags and form on the Flat was modest. On the upside, he has made the frame in each of his 3 qualifying runs in this sphere and, assuming he's ready to roll following a break, he could have a part to play on this handicap debut. Showed promise in novice/maiden hurdles in the autumn; makes handicap debut today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (100/1 -203%) Rhyme Scheme |
100/1(-203%) | (11) Rhyme Scheme 100/1, Regressive on the Flat and has continued to go the wrong way over hurdles. 0-9 over hurdles; ran quite well on latest outing, but that was in November. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
GIULIETTA fared best of those ridden prominently when worn down close home at Ludlow and off just a 2lb higher mark and dropping slightly in trip, she can go one place better. Our Nel shaped with promise when fourth over fences at Taunton and can make her presence felt, particularly if the first-time tongue-tie has the desired effect. Fly Awhile Johnny has shown enough on his last couple of starts to suggest he can be competitive in a race of this nature, and he is respected on his handicap hurdling debut.
Only two of the 13 due to go to post have won under Rules. HILLSIN has been something of a sinner when it comes to failing to win, with his record now standing at 0-19. However, he probably should've won on sole start for Chris Honour at Worcester last summer and the form of his latest effort at Exeter reads well in the context of this race. It's surely a matter of time before Giulietta picks up a race and she is feared most ahead of handicap debutants Fly Awhile Johnny and Jongleur d'Etoiles.
He's 0-19 over hurdles but HILLSIN (nap) split two next-time-out winners when second at Exeter last month and remains well handicapped.
Ths is the racecard key.
