1st (1) (15/8 +6%) Be Here Now |
15/8(+6%) | (1) Be Here Now 15/8, 4/1, career best when winning 5-runner handicap at Newcastle (5f) on reappearance 19 days ago. Form boosted by the runner-up and could still be well treated up 4 lb. Overcame trouble in running to win at Newcastle 19 days ago (solid form); major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (7/4 +75%) Split The Profit |
7/4(+75%) | (5) Split The Profit 7/4, Fair maiden Bit below form fifth of 12 in handicap at Chelmsford (6f, 10/1) 13 days ago but claims on his C&D near miss prior to that. Strong finish when 2nd over C&D last month but couldn't back it up last time (6f); now 0-9. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (9/1 +0%) Whogoesthere |
9/1(+0%) | (8) Whogoesthere 9/1, Didn't progress at 2. Seventh of 8 in nursery at Catterick (5f, soft) on final start in September. Off 6 months. Makes tapeta debut. Has work to do. Didn't progress last year but returns on a fair mark on his best efforts; AW debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (14/1 -100%) Scoops Ahoy |
14/1(-100%) | (3) Scoops Ahoy 14/1, Dual 5 winner at 2, including AW. Off since a below-par run at Catterick in October. Two 5f wins as a 2yo, including AW; absent since a lesser run in October; been gelded. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (17/2 -70%) Soldiers Design |
17/2(-70%) | (6) Soldiers Design 17/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Chased home Mutasawi in Kempton maiden on yard debut. Creditable third of 6 in handicap (17/2) at Lingfield (5f) since. Makes tapeta debut. Behind Mutasawi at Kempton in February and reopposes on the same terms. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (33/1 +0%) Kipp Kelly |
33/1(+0%) | (4) Kipp Kelly 33/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 5 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 50/1) 19 days ago. Has shown promise over C&D but tailed off on h'cap debut latest & looks badly handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (10/1 -300%) Mutasawi |
10/1(-300%) | (2) Mutasawi 10/1, 13/8, career best when winning 6-runner maiden at Kempton (5f) 43 days ago by ½ length from reopposing Soldiers Design. Cheekpieces go on for handicap debut. Respected. Off the mark in a Kempton maiden (5f) six weeks ago; cheekpieces added for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (50/1 -127%) Please Please Me |
50/1(-127%) | (7) Please Please Me 50/1, C&D novice winner in February. 40/1, last of 10 in handicap at this course (6f) since. Bounce back needed. C&D win in February came in a poor race; remote 40-1 shot on handicap debut; little appeal. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Now that the penny has dropped for BE HERE NOW after scoring from a subsequent winner at Newcastle last month, the son of Oasis Dream should have plenty more to come off a 4lb higher mark. Mutasawi had the reopposing Soldiers Design half a length back in second when getting off the mark at Kempton and David O'Meara's charge can uphold that form as he makes his handicap debut.
BE HERE NOW overcame a troubled passage to collar a next-time-out winner at Newcastle last month so a 4 lb rise doesn't look enough to prevent him following up. Kempton maiden winner Mutasawi may give him most to do ahead of Split The Profit, who went close over C&D on his penultimate start.
Mutasawi may benefit from cheekpieces and he's considered but BE HERE NOW did well to win at Newcastle and he can follow up.

1st (4) (6/4 +33%) Winchurch |
6/4(+33%) | (4) Winchurch 6/4, Foaled February 3. Churchill colt. Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. Debutant from a good yard. Something to like on pedigree, but stable not a noted souce of winning 2yo newcomers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (3/1 +25%) Sonic Si |
3/1(+25%) | (3) Sonic Si 3/1, Foaled February 24. Advertise colt. Dam, 5f/5.7f winner, half-sister to useful 5f/5.5f (Prix d'Arenberg) winner Cay Verde. Makes some paper appeal for a stable which has had a first-time juvenile winner already this year. Stable had an impressive 2yo debut winner last week; interesting, especially if backed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (9/4 -236%) Deal Maker |
9/4(-236%) | (1) Deal Maker 9/4, Promising type. Won 7-runner C&D novice on debut 11 days ago, kept up to work. Open to progress. Made a successful debut over C&D 11 days ago; that experience an advantage. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (8/1 -14%) Chilly Breeze |
8/1(-14%) | (2) Chilly Breeze 8/1, Foaled January 28. Ulysses gelding. Dam, ran once at 2 yrs, half-sister to useful 2-y-o 7f winner Holloway Boy (by Ulysses). One to note in the betting on debut. Already gelded and stable has had very few 2yos go in first time in recent years. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Related to multiple winners, including the highly talented Salute The Soldier, DEAL MAKER sets the standard on the back of a taking debut success over C&D. A 7lb penalty will make life more difficult, but her experience could prove crucial and she should have enough to see off Chilly Breeze, who is out of a half-sister to Chesham winner Holloway Boy. David Loughnane is capable of readying one first time out and his Sonic Si cannot be ruled out as a son of top-class sprinter Advertise.
Unless the betting vibes are notably strong for one of the newcomers this looks a good chance for DEAL MAKER to add to her C&D debut success.
It may be worth taking on C&D winner Deal Maker with SONIC SI, whose stable had an impressive 2yo debut winner last week.

1st (2) (9/4 -13%) Mersea |
9/4(-13%) | (2) Mersea 9/4, Never figured back from 4 months off at Wolverhampton (7f) in March but showed benefit of that run when finishing second of 10 in handicap at Catterick (6f, heavy) 8 days ago. On a handy mark if backing that up returned to AW. Good 2nd last week (6f, heavy) and runs off the same mark; stiffer test at 5f preferable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/8 +69%) Rodborough |
11/8(+69%) | (1) Rodborough 11/8, 3-time C&D winner who ran another solid race when fourth from career-high mark here on penultimate start. Seemed stretched by 6f latest and return to this trip rates a definite plus here. Respected. Three C&D wins to her name; return to 5f/fillies' only company in her favour; solid chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (6/1 -80%) Alpine Girl |
6/1(-80%) | (3) Alpine Girl 6/1, AW/turf winner last summer. Ended her season on a low note but not disgraced after 7 months off when fourth of 7 in handicap at Kempton (6f, 10/1) 8 days ago, outpaced before keeping on inside final 1f. Better showing anticipated and worth noting she won second time out last term. Two 5f wins last year; sharper for last week's return at Kempton where she looked rusty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/2 -17%) Hurt You Never |
7/2(-17%) | (4) Hurt You Never 7/2, Five wins from 14 runs last year. Latest win at Newcastle in January. 4/1, not disgraced having faced competition for the lead when fourth of 9 in handicap back at that venue (6f) 27 days ago. Remains lightly raced at the minimum trip. Two fine efforts at Newcastle to kick off this season; may have done too much early latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HURT YOU NEVER may have had to settle for fourth at Newcastle last time out, but she had been in excellent form prior to that and is well capable of dominating this contest from on the pace, as she did plenty of times last season. Turned out again quickly after a highly encouraging second at Catterick last week, Mersea must enter calculations, while Alpine Girl may well be suited by dropping back from 6f.
MERSEA showed the benefit of her reappearance run when finishing runner-up at Catterick (6f) 8 days ago and, with the drop back to the minimum trip holding no fears, she gets the nod to go one place better. Alpine Girl and Hurt You Never are others to consider.
Alpine Girl should build on last week's Kempton fourth but these conditions bring out the best in RODBOROUGH and she can win again.

1st (5) (11/1 +0%) Attila The Honey |
11/1(+0%) | (5) Attila The Honey 11/1, Career best when winning 4-runner event on handicap debut at this course (12.1f, 12/1) 11 days ago, despite still seeming rough around the edges. Carries penalty. Improving all the time recently. Progressive sort who scored on h'cap debut here; very much one to consider under 6lb pen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/4 +31%) Path To Dubai |
11/4(+31%) | (3) Path To Dubai 11/4, Course winner on debut in January. 15/8, shaped well under a penalty when second of 6 in minor event at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 52 days ago, needing stiffer test. Makes handicap debut and remains with potential. Landed maiden here before good Wolver second; not ruled out now his stamina is drawn out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (4/6 +39%) Road To Wembley |
4/6(+39%) | (7) Road To Wembley 4/6, Made a winning handicap debut at Wolverhampton last month and made light of a 6 lb rise to follow up in 4-runner event at Lingfield (10f, AW) 7 days ago, scoring by 7 lengths without being asked for maximum exertion. Carries penalty. Has best chance on form. On hat-trick after wins at Wolverhampton and Lingfield (by 7l); hard to oppose under a pen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (6/1 +20%) Timetobenice |
6/1(+20%) | (1) Timetobenice 6/1, Won second time up (first outing for this yard) at Kempton in November. 12/1, improved further under a penalty when second of 13 in minor event there (8f) when last seen 4 months ago. Significantly up in trip. Makes handicap debut. Open to improvement. Very good second at Kempton latest; enter calculations now going handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (50/1 -355%) Trafalgar Square |
50/1(-355%) | (4) Trafalgar Square 50/1, 3/1, ran well when third of 7 on nursery debut at Newcastle (8f) 5 months ago. Significantly up in trip. First run for yard after leaving Andrew Balding (25,000 gns) and probably best watched on return. Very good third at Newcastle on final run for Andrew Balding; possibilities for new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Road To Wembley has come into his own since going handicapping, winning both of his starts, and Richard Hughes' gelding must be respected under a penalty. Attila The Honey, who also shoulders a penalty having won over 1m4f here, can give another good account of herself, but GALACTIC CHARM is preferred. The son of Sea The Moon hit the crossbar on his return in a novice event at Wolverhampton and appears to be well treated judged on what he achieved last season, so could make more of an impact now in a handicap.
The hat-trick beckons for ROAD TO WEMBLEY, who scooted clear to win by 7 lengths without being asked for maximum effort at Lingfield last week and he can continue Richard Hughes' fine run of form under a penalty. Path To Dubai was narrowly denied at Wolverhampton in February, so he's put forward as the main danger upped further in trip, with Timetobenice rounding off the shortlist.
It's impossible to go against ROAD TO WEMBLEY (nap), who spreadeagled his field at Lingfield and can make light of a 6lb penalty.

1st (2) (11/4 +54%) Mustajaab |
11/4(+54%) | (2) Mustajaab 11/4, C&D winner. Fifth of 6 in handicap at Newmarket (7f, good, 11/1), slowly away. Others preferred after 7-month absence. Off 229 days, but won over C&D last year after a similar absence; worth a second look. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (3/1 +63%) Lion Tower |
3/1(+63%) | (6) Lion Tower 3/1, Course winner. 28/1, run best excused when eleventh of 18 in handicap at Doncaster (8f, heavy) 19 days ago, ridden too aggressively. Has good chance on pick of form. Well held on turf last time, but previously beaten a head at Newcastle; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (3/1 +25%) How Impressive |
3/1(+25%) | (4) How Impressive 3/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in March. Found himself trapped wide when ighth of 12 in handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW, 13/2) 13 days ago and isn't ruled out after largely productive spell. Below form last time but had won three of his four starts before that including over C&D. |

4th (10) (20/1 -100%) Flying Secret |
20/1(-100%) | (10) Flying Secret 20/1, Shaped better than the result when sixth of 12 in handicap (11/1) at Ascot (7f, good), racing on disadvantaged part of track. Off 6 months. Place claims if ready on tapeta debut. Back off last winning mark, but something to prove on Tapeta debut after six months off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (16/1 -60%) Touchwood |
16/1(-60%) | (11) Touchwood 16/1, Latest win at Lingfield in October. Eighth of 12 in handicap (17/2) at Wolverhampton (7.2f). Off 149 days. Needs a couple of these to falter. Still 7lb above his last winning mark and may find this level a bit warm for him now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (18/1 -125%) Orbaan |
18/1(-125%) | (1) Orbaan 18/1, Sixteen runs since last win in 2022. 11/2 and visored for 1st time, eleventh of 12 in handicap at York (7.9f, heavy). Off 6 months. Shaped well several times in defeat last season and looks very interesting from this mark. Unplaced in his last 14 starts despite a sliding mark and returns from six months off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (7/1 -56%) Another Investment |
7/1(-56%) | (3) Another Investment 7/1, 4/1, creditable third of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (6f). Yet to finish outside the frame on all-weather and he's not discounted after 149 days off. Return to 7f no problem, but 7lb above his last winning mark and has been off five months. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (18/1 -13%) Siam Fox |
18/1(-13%) | (8) Siam Fox 18/1, 22/1, bit below form fifth of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (8f). Off 6 months. Not easy to make a case for. Has won on Tapeta and has won fresh, but this trip looks inadequate for him now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (25/1 -150%) Ultramarine |
25/1(-150%) | (9) Ultramarine 25/1, Winner at Kempton in February but again proved keener than ideal when 3¾ lengths sixth of 12 to How Impressive in handicap at this C&D 32 days ago. Can give a good account from this mark if proving more tractable. Four wins on the AW during the winter, but held behind How Impressive over C&D last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (28/1 -250%) Hectic |
28/1(-250%) | (5) Hectic 28/1, Not disgraced when sixth of 11 in handicap at Newbury (7f, good). Off 7 months. Makes tapeta debut. First run for yard after leaving Richard Hannon. Worth market check, 1-10 for Richard Hannon; makes stable/AW debut after eight months off; watch market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (12) (80/1 -400%) Night Breeze |
80/1(-400%) | (12) Night Breeze 80/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 9/1, third of 4 in minor event at Chester (7.6f, heavy). Off 6 months. Makes handicap debut. More required. Well held in three starts last year; this looks a competitive race on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (7) (150/1 -971%) Roundhay Park |
150/1(-971%) | (7) Roundhay Park 150/1, Three wins from 13 runs last year. Seventh of 8 in handicap at Pontefract (6f, good to soft, 10/1). Off 6 months. Makes tapeta debut. Must improve. Has won 12 times, but plenty to prove on AW debut on his 68th start after 196 days off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An open event in which only a tentative vote can go to HOW IMPRESSIVE. Hugo Palmer's five-year-old could never get on terms with the leaders in a valuable sprint at Lingfield on Good Friday, but he will find things more to his liking here, with the return to further an added positive. Lion Tower struggled in the Spring Mile at Doncaster but he will appreciate being back on an artificial surface. Others to note include Another Investment and Mustajaab.
ORBAAN failed to win last season but produced a handful of sound efforts in much tougher company than this and he's taken to defy top-weight on his seasonal return. How Impressive has already won 3 times on all-weather this year and it's easy to give him a pass for his latest outing, so is feared, with Lion Tower another race-fit runner to consider.
The vote goes to LION TOWER who ended up well held in the Spring Mile but had previously gone down narrowly off this mark at Newcastle.

1st (6) (11/2 -10%) Churchella |
11/2(-10%) | (6) Churchella 11/2, C&D winner. Latest win here in March. Eleventh of 16 in handicap (4/1) at Chelmsford City (14f) 13 days ago, again very slowly away. Clearly remains on a good mark if able to put it all together but her temperament is a concern. C&D winner; ruined chance with very slow start at Chelmsford latest; can't be ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (10/1 -100%) Dark Mystery |
10/1(-100%) | (7) Dark Mystery 10/1, Caught wide throughout when ninth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f) 68 days ago. Some promise in last year's efforts and he's ruled out of making a greater impact from this mark. Winless since 2022 but not discredited when ninth at Wolver latest; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (20/1 +0%) Rock N Roll Pinkie |
20/1(+0%) | (8) Rock N Roll Pinkie 20/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, creditable sixth of 10 in handicap (33/1) at this course (14.1f) 79 days ago. Likely to find a few too good once more. Not disgraced in cheekpieces when sixth here in January; no forlorn hope now up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (28/1 -522%) El Borracho |
28/1(-522%) | (1) El Borracho 28/1, One win from 3 runs last year. 8/1, fourth of 7 in handicap chase at Kempton (18f, good) 172 days ago. Off 172 days. Fairly useful on the Flat, good on last Flat run. Can make presence felt. Good Pontefract second in August and in winning form over fences since; needs considering. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (14/1 -56%) Evening Story |
14/1(-56%) | (3) Evening Story 14/1, Three wins from 7 runs last year. Latest win at Newcastle in November. 11/1, only fourth of 6 in handicap at this course (14.1f) 14 days ago. Others more persuasive. Only fair fourth here a fortnight ago; needs to take a step forward on first go over 2m. |

6th (4) (6/1 +33%) Pons Aelius |
6/1(+33%) | (4) Pons Aelius 6/1, Visored for 1st time, last of 12 in handicap (33/1) at Lingfield (15.8f, AW) 13 days ago. Now 7 lb below last winning mark but recent efforts haven't inspired confidence. Yet to fire in two runs this year, visored last at Lingfield latest; has a bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (4/6 +51%) Savvy Brilliance |
4/6(+51%) | (2) Savvy Brilliance 4/6, Won final 2 starts in 2023 before producing a career best to complete hat-trick in 11-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (16.6f), edging ahead close home and being forced wide home bend. Off 95 days. Shortlist material. Did really well to complete hat-trick at Wolverhampton when carried wide; big player. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SAVVY BRILLIANCE is on a steep upward curve and having proven his stamina with a gutsy win over this trip at Wolverhampton, the progressive four-year-old is hard to oppose in his bid to complete a four-timer. Rab Havlin has been in the saddle for each of the gelding's three successes and, with his services retained, a 2lb higher mark is not insurmountable. The versatile El Borracho is feared on his return to the Flat, while C&D winner Churchella also merits consideration.
SAVVY BRILLIANCE is fancied to land the 4-timer, having done well to overcome disadvantageous circumstances at Wolverhampton last time and been nudged up only 2 lb for doing so. El Borracho retained plenty of ability in this sphere last season and rates as next best after a spell back over fences, whilst Dark Mystery hasn't yet really had the rub of the green this season and remains on an interesting mark, so could complete the placings.
4yo SAVVY BRILLIANCE was carrying all before him when last seen so this low-mileage son of Cracksman is taken to return in style.

7/2(+22%) | (4) Whenthedealinsdone 7/2, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. 14/1, creditable third of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW) 35 days ago, nearest finish. Makes tapeta debut. Lurks on an interesting mark and shouldn't be discounted. Useful in his pomp and signs a wind op had worked when 3rd at Lingfield latest; e-w shout. |

Looks competitive on form. 7f win last month was followed by a close 2nd over C&D; 2lb well in; one for the shortlist. |

Step back up to 6f is a positive but possible he's better over further still and never the easiest of rides, so others preferred. Not straightforward but he's got plenty of ability and should be winning soon. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
WESTMORIAN has the ability to rule the roost in this company and on the back of a string of solid efforts, the five-year-old looks the one to be with. Gulliver is still a very capable sprinter who can never confidently be ruled out, especially while he is on a competitive handicap mark. Airshow and Whenthedealinsdone are a couple of other each-way players who can make this interesting, for the minor honours at least.
AIRSHOW scored under an attacking ride at Chelmsford in March and was collared only late over C&D 11 days ago, so is fancied to continue his strong run of form. Whenthedealinsdone has slipped in the weights and showed plenty to be encouraged by at Lingfield last month and rates as a potential lurker, with Westmorian also capable of extending his good spell.
Westmorian looks booked for another big run but MANY A STAR is on a dangerous mark and might be worth chancing.
Ths is the racecard key.
