1st (5) (4/1 +27%) How Impressive |
4/1(+27%) | (5) How Impressive 4/1, Latest win at Kempton in February. Good second of 9 in handicap (2/1) at Chelmsford City (6f) 24 days ago, clear of rest and he's clearly going through a very productive spell at present. In excellent form on Polytrack last month and Tapeta also suits; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) (25/1 +11%) Visibility |
25/1(+11%) | (12) Visibility 25/1, C&D winner. Three wins from 20 runs last year. Latest win here in December. Bit below form seventh of 12 in handicap at this course (8.1f, 25/1) 15 days ago. Must improve. Won off today's mark here in December (1m); needs to better recent efforts, though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (22/1 -120%) Thunder Roar |
22/1(-120%) | (2) Thunder Roar 22/1, Three wins from 8 runs last year. 2/1, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at Doncaster (7f, heavy). Off 134 days but revised mark well within range if he's fully tuned. Ended last season in excellent form on slow turf but has fitness to prove on Tapeta debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (10/1 -67%) Starshiba |
10/1(-67%) | (3) Starshiba 10/1, Four wins from 18 runs last year. Latest win at Wolverhampton in December. Creditable third of 10 in handicap (14/1) at this course (6.1f) 24 days ago, running on. Merits consideration given he's versatile regarding trip. Kept on well for third over 6f here last month and this return to 7f is sure to suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (10/1 -54%) Rock Opera |
10/1(-54%) | (7) Rock Opera 10/1, Course winner. Latest win here in January. 10/3, creditable third of 6 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 43 days ago. Looks worth another go at 7f. Dual 6f Tapeta winner this AW season and looks well worth another crack at 7f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (12/1 +0%) Ultramarine |
12/1(+0%) | (9) Ultramarine 12/1, Latest win at Kempton in February. 8/1, sixth of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 15 days ago, though that effort can be forgiven as he was left poorly placed. Below form after racing too freely last time but has won four times since the autumn. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (22/1 -83%) Legal Reform |
22/1(-83%) | (1) Legal Reform 22/1, Rattled off a quick-fire hat-trick on AW/turf last spring (including over C&D) and solid start for new yard when runner-up twice in the autumn. Off since and little margin for error from this mark. Second twice on heavy turf in the autumn but looks a shade vulnerable off career-high mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (16/1 -14%) Guy Fawkes |
16/1(-14%) | (11) Guy Fawkes 16/1, Winner over C&D on debut in November. 22/1, respectable fourth of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f) 15 days ago, though he could do with settling down. Ran okay at Chelmsford last month but seems to have some quirks and is not progressing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (8/1 +33%) Wyvern |
8/1(+33%) | (8) Wyvern 8/1, 40/1, tenth of 12 in handicap at Ascot (7f, good). Off 156 days. Visor back on, tongue strap back on and this represents a drop in class. On workable mark and has conditions to suit but this is his first run since October. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (10/3 +26%) Grant Wood |
10/3(+26%) | (6) Grant Wood 10/3, C&D winner. 9/2, career best when winning 12-runner handicap at Newcastle (6f) 26 days ago. Improving all the time recently but 7 lb rise asks a new question. C&D winner in January and followed up over 6f at Newcastle last month; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (17/2 -31%) Engelbert |
17/2(-31%) | (10) Engelbert 17/2, Good second of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f, 12/1), having to pick way through. Off 142 days. Not taken lightly for all stall 11 may pose a problem. Ran well in defeat behind much-improved rival in October; back from break today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (4) (15/2 -50%) Mountain Warrior |
15/2(-50%) | (4) Mountain Warrior 15/2, 6/1 and blinkered for first time, career best when winning 8-runner handicap at this course (6.1f) 47 days ago, pushed out. Not fully exposed but return to 7f isn't bound to suit. 6f course winner in first-time blinkers in January; contender if same headgear works again. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HOW IMPRESSIVE may have just failed in his hat-trick bid at Chelmsford, but the winner lost little in defeat a week later and Hugo Palmer's five-year-old will appreciate the step back up to 7f. Grant Wood and Thunder Roar are the ones on three-timers now, with the former's C&D/Newcastle brace coming more recently. Mountain Warrior took his Southwell record to two from two last time so has to enter the equation, and Legal Reform is another very much at home here.
This is competitive but HOW IMPRESSIVE is going through a really good patch at present, and with the return to 7f no issue, he's taken to quickly regain the winning thread. Engelbert will probably need some luck from stall 11 but his mark is a very workable one, with Thunder Roar another to consider back from a break.
Multiple 7f/1m winner STARSHIBA moves back up in trip after running on well for third over 6f here last month and is on a good mark.

1st (2) (4/7 +67%) Bravo Zulu |
4/7(+67%) | (2) Bravo Zulu 4/7, Much better for debut when winning 13-runner maiden at Kempton (7f, 13/2), having run of race. Off 111 days. Has to be taken seriously. Made all for clearcut success in valuable 7f Kempton maiden in November; leading contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (10/3 -90%) African Spirit |
10/3(-90%) | (1) African Spirit 10/3, Looked a useful prospect when making a winning start in 8-runner maiden at Newcastle (7.1f) in September, leading under 2f out and soon quickening clear. Not seen to best effect on valuable event at York following month and worth another chance. Impressed on debut at Newcastle (7f) in September; not disgraced in sales race next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (8/1 -100%) Duke Wellington |
8/1(-100%) | (5) Duke Wellington 8/1, 25,000 gns foal, Soldier's Call gelding. Half-brother to several winners, including smart winner up to 7f Lustown Baba and 1m winner Lady Beware. Dam 2-y-o 5f winner. Third of 7 in novice (4/1) at Newcastle (7.1f) on debut 29 days ago, better placed than most. Should have more to offer. Promising third on last month's Newcastle debut; no surprise if he features here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (13/2 -30%) Serengeti Sunrise |
13/2(-30%) | (3) Serengeti Sunrise 13/2, Improved on debut to win 10-runner maiden at Wolverhampton (7.2f). Off 138 days. More needed again under a penalty. Won run-of-the-mill Wolverhampton maiden by 3l in October but others appeal more here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (18/1 -50%) Red Scotch |
18/1(-50%) | (6) Red Scotch 18/1, Flag of Honour colt. Dam winning hurdler. 28/1, third of 9 in maiden at this course (8.1f) on debut 15 days ago, running on. May well do better. Has stout jumping pedigree; placed over 1m here on debut; might find 7f too sharp. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (125/1 -25%) Diligent Henry |
125/1(-25%) | (7) Diligent Henry 125/1, Well held in novice/maiden. Shaped with some promise at Newcastle last month but faces another tough task here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (150/1 -50%) Alexandra Aclaim |
150/1(-50%) | (4) Alexandra Aclaim 150/1, Aclaim gelding. Dam winner up to 1m (2-y-o 6f winner). 150/1, last of 7 in novice at Newcastle (7.1f) on debut 29 days ago. In rear throughout when 150-1 for last month's debut at Newcastle (7f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (150/1 -50%) Turkish Tiger |
150/1(-50%) | (8) Turkish Tiger 150/1, £1,000 yearling, Aclaim colt. Dam lightly raced. 66/1, last of 6 in maiden at Ripon (6f, good to firm) on debut. Off 6 months. Always behind when 66-1 for debut at Ripon (6f) in September and not seen again since. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
After creating a striking impression on his Newcastle debut, African Spirit acquitted himself quite well when pitched into a 100k event at York. He is an obvious contender, but BRAVO ZULU looked quite a smart prospect when accounting for a subsequent winner with ease at Kempton and he is just preferred. The form of Serengeti Sunrise's Wolverhampton triumph isn't up to much, but he still won well. Duke Wellington and Red Scotch should be able to build on decent introductions.
AFRICAN SPIRIT wasn't seen to best effect in a valuable event at York in October so is worth another chance having looked a useful prospect when making a winning debut at Southwell the previous month. Bravo Zulu confirmed debut promise when scoring at Kempton in November and is the obvious threat, while Duke Wellington and Red Scotch both showed something to work on starting out last month.
Kempton winner Bravo Zulu is respected but preference is for AFRICAN SPIRIT, who impressed at Newcastle in September.

1st (3) (Evens +64%) Prince Eric |
Evens(+64%) | (3) Prince Eric Evens, After 5 months off (had been gelded), justified support (6/4) when making a winning handicap debut in 7-runner event at Lingfield (8f, AW) 20 days ago. Makes tapeta debut. Leading contender with further progress to come. Justified favouritism at Lingfield last month on AW/handicap/seasonal debut; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (9/1 -50%) Mulciber |
9/1(-50%) | (2) Mulciber 9/1, Off the mark at Newcastle (7.1f) in November and, after a lesser effort next time, resumed his progress when winning 8-runner handicap at the same course (8f, 3/1) 22 days ago. Could make another bold bid. Narrow win at Newcastle last month took his record on Tapeta to 2-2; not dismissed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (33/1 -230%) Body Parts |
33/1(-230%) | (7) Body Parts 33/1, Making only her second start in a handicap, showed improved form when opening her account in 10-runner event at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 20/1) 23 days ago. Could still have more to offer upped in trip. Showed improvement with 20-1 win in 7f handicap at Wolverhampton last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (4/1 -33%) Good Morning Alex |
4/1(-33%) | (8) Good Morning Alex 4/1, Off the mark at this C&D in December and has won 2 of his 3 starts this year, forging clear for success in 7-runner handicap at Newcastle (8f, 7/2) 31 days ago by 2¼ lengths from Due Consideration. Respected. Has form figures of 1131 since upped to 1m; 1-1 over C&D; could well progress further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (80/1 -400%) Venus Slipper |
80/1(-400%) | (6) Venus Slipper 80/1, Stepped forward from her first 2 starts when second of 6 in maiden at Chelmsford City (7f, 150/1) 15 days ago. Further improvement required as she makes her handicap debut, but the return to 1m should suit. Outran her 150-1 odds in Chelmsford maiden (runner-up over 7f) last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (33/1 -106%) Likleman |
33/1(-106%) | (10) Likleman 33/1, Run of good form halted when 4½ lengths fifth of 8 to Mulciber in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 15/2) 22 days ago, again racing freely. Has something to find as he looks for his first victory. Form dipped last month in race won by Mulciber, taking record to 0-10. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (11/1 -10%) Eastern Dream |
11/1(-10%) | (5) Eastern Dream 11/1, In first-time hood, got back on track making his handicap debut when third of 11 at this course (7.1f, 16/1) 40 days ago. Task is now to build on his latest effort upped in distance. Ran creditably in first-time hood here (7f; handicap debut) six weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (125/1 -525%) Little Venice |
125/1(-525%) | (9) Little Venice 125/1, Some promise on debut but has gone backwards from that effort in 2 subsequent outings, left behind from 2f out when fourth of 5 in minor event at Newcastle (8f, 100/1) 22 days ago. Makes her handicap bow. Out of a four-time handicap winner for her owner; interesting now qualified for a mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (16/1 +0%) Rising Force |
16/1(+0%) | (11) Rising Force 16/1, Not seen to best effect when third of 5 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 10/1) 20 days ago, hampered around 1f out. May just be vulnerable to the more lightly-raced types in this line-up. Engaged 6.40 Wolverhampton Saturday. Exposed sort but proving consistent; third again in the 6:40 Wolverhampton Saturday. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (11/2 +8%) Due Consideration |
11/2(+8%) | (1) Due Consideration 11/2, Successful at Musselburgh in September and has run at least as well both starts since, 2¼ lengths second of 7 to Good Morning Alex in handicap at Newcastle (8f, 11/1) on his return 31 days ago. Can give another good account. Record of 22122 since handicapping, most recently second to Good Morning Alex at Newcastle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (150/1 -500%) Dancing Eyes |
150/1(-500%) | (4) Dancing Eyes 150/1, In first-time cheekpieces, ran poorly when twelfth of 13 in nursery at Leicester (7f, good, 50/1) when last seen in October. Has work to do after 5 months off (headgear discarded). Return to AW looks a plus on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (12) (22/1 -38%) Nevzilla |
22/1(-38%) | (12) Nevzilla 22/1, Ran better than previously this year when third of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 25/1) a week ago, shaping as if she would benefit from going back up in distance. Needs to find more. Best form over 6f; yet to show consistency and this extra 2f is an unknown. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Despite showing little to nothing in three novice events, PRINCE ERIC was sent off a warm order on his return at Lingfield and duly obliged. Whether the improvement was the result of a gelding operation, the step into handicap company, or both, James Ferguson's charge shaped like he has plenty of scope for further progression. Good Morning Alex has won three of his last four, and Mulciber two of his last three, so this won't be easy. Throw Body Parts, Due Consideration and Eastern Dream into the mix too.
PRINCE ERIC left his previous form behind when making a successful handicap debut at Lingfield 20 days ago, despite still looking in need of the experience, so he is taken to score again now that he's up and running. The main danger could be Good Morning Alex, who has won 3 of his last 4 starts since upped to 1m, while Body Parts is also considered.
Unexposed PRINCE ERIC is taken to build on his Lingfield success and follow up. Good Morning Alex is feared most.

1st (6) (13/2 -63%) Cinque Verde |
13/2(-63%) | (6) Cinque Verde 13/2, On a hat-trick after a pair of 5f Chelmsford wins last month. Placed over 6f at the beginning of her career but has done her winning over the minimum trip, Happier on the AW than turf; the extra furlong is the big question with her. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/4 +31%) Quandary |
11/4(+31%) | (5) Quandary 11/4, Went close over C&D in January before another good run when third of 11 at Newcastle (5f) 35 days ago, running on. Respected back up in trip. Hit traffic at a key stage down to 5f latest; lightly raced and goes on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (10/1 -150%) Sixties Chic |
10/1(-150%) | (7) Sixties Chic 10/1, Latest win at Wolverhampton (6f) in February. Good second of 8 in handicap (3/1) at Chelmsford (6f) 15 days ago. Not taken lightly. 2-2 over 6f on Tapeta but this tougher than the races she's used to; needs a career-best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (33/1 -106%) Ey Up It's Maggie |
33/1(-106%) | (4) Ey Up It's Maggie 33/1, Won 5f handicaps at Doncaster and Ripon last year. 33/1, below form fourth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) when last seen in November. Has form over 6f but all wins at 5f. All wins have come over 5f on soft turf, so tonight's conditions don't look optimal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (2/1 +27%) Just A Spark |
2/1(+27%) | (2) Just A Spark 2/1, Course winner who made it 6 wins in a row on AW when getting up on the line at Kempton (6f) 3 weeks ago. A further 2 lb nudge is unlikely to prevent another prominent showing with Oisin Murphy doing the steering again. Has now won her last six starts on the AW; is only 2lb higher and warrants respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (4/1 +20%) Radio Goo Goo |
4/1(+20%) | (1) Radio Goo Goo 4/1, Improved model at 3, winning 5 times, including class 2 fillies' handicap at York (6f) in June. Creditable fourth of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (7f) on reappearance 9 days ago. Merits consideration having dipped back to the mark she defied at York. Progressive last spring; entitled to have come on for her comeback and is one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (15/2 +25%) Love Lies |
15/2(+25%) | (3) Love Lies 15/2, Won 6f maiden/novice events on turf and tapeta at the end of last summer. Found less than looked likely when only fifth of 6 in handicap at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) in September but retains potential as a lightly-raced type. Limitations exposed on her handicap company latterly; needs to have improved for the break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
JUST A SPARK continues to go from strength to strength and a mere 2lb rise for her most recent success at Kempton may not be enough to prevent her from landing the four-timer. That may be at the main expense of Cinque Verde, who arrives on a hat-trick but must prove herself over this distance. Chelmsford runner-up Sixties Chic and Quandary have the form to get involved as well.
This looks very open. JUST A SPARK really has got in the winning habit and might be able to defy another small rise. Radio Goo Goo is back on the same mark as when landing a nice prize at York last summer and is second choice ahead of Sixties Chic.
Quandary is respected but JUST A SPARK is fancied to extend her winning run on the AW to seven.

1st (2) (3/1 -20%) Cephalus |
3/1(-20%) | (2) Cephalus 3/1, C&D winner. Six wins from 22 Flat runs. 11/8, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at Kempton (8f) 18 days ago. Blinkers on 1st time. Thriving at present and he's high on the shortlist. Solid record this winter and latest success took his AW record to 6-15; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (5/1 +33%) Soames Forsyte |
5/1(+33%) | (5) Soames Forsyte 5/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Wolverhampton in January. Held form well since, another respectable effort when fifth of 11 in handicap (13/2) there (8.6f) 8 days ago. Drawn widest of all but still not discounted. Has form figures of 11325 since wearing cheekpieces; solid chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (5/2 +50%) King Of York |
5/2(+50%) | (7) King Of York 5/2, Course winner. Finally off mark here in February. Creditable second of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f, 3/1) 7 days ago. Hard to knock his consistency and he isn't taken lightly. Very consistent this winter; won at this venue three starts ago; possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (33/1 -136%) Retraction |
33/1(-136%) | (3) Retraction 33/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 3/1, fourth of 7 in maiden at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm). Off 6 months. First run for yard after leaving James Horton. Since been gelded and opening mark looks shade high. Brother to two AW winners; may improve for switch to this sphere; new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (9/1 -157%) Valentinka |
9/1(-157%) | (1) Valentinka 9/1, 6/1, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at this C&D 12 days ago, readily. Rider's 7 lb claim more than offsets the weight rise handed for that victory, so she has to be respected. Back up 5lb for C&D success but Owen Lewis takes off a handy 7lb; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (20/1 +39%) Mr Fustic |
20/1(+39%) | (4) Mr Fustic 20/1, C&D winner. Two wins from 6 runs last year, but ended season in a lull and fared no better when eighth of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW, 33/1) 37 days ago. Won off this mark over C&D last June; not in the same form since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (100/1 -300%) Wath Court |
100/1(-300%) | (9) Wath Court 100/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 66/1, creditable fourth of 9 in maiden at this C&D 15 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Has work to do. Five-race maiden; doesn't look the type to progress on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (7/1 +56%) Alexander James |
7/1(+56%) | (6) Alexander James 7/1, C&D winner. Eleven runs since last win in 2023. 13/2, eighth of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (8f) 17 days ago, racing too freely. Can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals. 0-11 for current yard and has become inconsistent; others preferred. |

9th (8) (12/1 -20%) Khathak |
12/1(-20%) | (8) Khathak 12/1, Temperamental sort. Sixteen runs since last win in 2021. Creditable fourth of 8 in handicap (4/1) at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 13 days ago but others still make more appeal for wins purposes. 0-16 since 2yo debut win but is favourably handicapped; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (10/1 +0%) Coolree |
10/1(+0%) | (10) Coolree 10/1, 20/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, creditable 2¾ lengths fourth of 10 to King of York in handicap at this course (7.1f) 34 days ago. Stepping back in the right direction and isn't discounted after a wind-op Ran respectably here last month; had wind surgery since; may improve; shortlisted. |

11th (12) (50/1 -400%) Clipsham Gold |
50/1(-400%) | (12) Clipsham Gold 50/1, 11/4 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, third of 5 in handicap at Chelmsford City (8f) 30 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Dylan Cunha. Looked a bit ungainly last time and others are preferred. Attractively treated on debut for new yard, having slipped to last winning mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A comfortable winner over C&D last time out, VALENTINKA should have plenty more to come off a 5lb higher mark and Owen Lewis' 7lb claim is another big plus as he aims to land a fourth career victory. A winner of two of his last four starts, Cephalus has been in excellent form of late and must enter calculations, along with Newcastle second King Of York and Soames Forsyte.
CEPHALUS has been in the form of his life this winter, winning twice and filling the runner-up position on his other 2 outings, and with the form of his recent Kempton success appealing as strong, he's taken to overcome a wider-than-ideal draw. King of York has made the frame for 7 consecutive starts and can give another good account, with last-time-out winner Valentinka and Soames Forsyte others to consider.
Consistent KING OF YORK may well double his tally returned to Southwell. Coolree ties in with the selection.

Becoming well handicapped and better than recent results suggest. Beat only one here latest but badly hampered; he's one to consider off a reduced mark. |

1st (5) (12/1 +40%) Absolute Dream |
12/1(+40%) | (5) Absolute Dream 12/1, 18/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f) 19 days ago. Significantly back down in trip. Cheekpieces back on. Others have achieved more. Not the easiest to catch right and he beat only two in 1m2f Newcastle handicap 19 days ago. |

2nd (4) (7/1 -100%) Urban Dandy |
7/1(-100%) | (4) Urban Dandy 7/1, Course winner. Twelve runs since last win in 2023. 9/4, again shaped as if still in form when fourth of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 31 days ago, left poorly placed. Significantly up in trip. Not taken lightly. Course scorer who arrives in decent nick; not discounted if his stamina holds out. |

3rd (9) (14/1 -100%) Cubanista |
14/1(-100%) | (9) Cubanista 14/1, One win from 27 Flat runs. Twenty one runs since last win in 2022. Below form fifth of 12 in minor event (10/3) at Newcastle (6f) 26 days ago. Could get back on track. Below-par fifth in 6f Newcastle classified event 26 days ago; others are more persuasive. |

4th (8) (6/1 +57%) Fantasy Navigator |
6/1(+57%) | (8) Fantasy Navigator 6/1, Latest win at Newcastle in February. Ninth of 10 in handicap (9/1) at Newcastle (6f) 3 days ago. Needs to bounce back quickly. Ended lengthy losing run at Newcastle in February but well below par on both starts since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (11/1 -57%) Porfin |
11/1(-57%) | (1) Porfin 11/1, Respectable sixth of 11 in handicap (15/2) at Kempton (6f) 21 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Not firing at present but this is a drop in grade. Scored at Newmarket (6f) in August but he comes here below par; others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (11/1 +31%) Balmy Breese |
11/1(+31%) | (10) Balmy Breese 11/1, 8/1, sixth of 8 in minor event at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 50 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. First run for yard after leaving Sarah Hollinshead. Mainly in good form for Sarah Hollinshead; claims for new yard with 7f trip a likely plus. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (28/1 -12%) Buraback |
28/1(-12%) | (7) Buraback 28/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. 22/1, last of 8 in handicap at this C&D 12 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Others more persuasive. It's 14 runs since his last win and he's beaten just two rivals in his three 2024 outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (13/8 +28%) Stoic Syd |
13/8(+28%) | (2) Stoic Syd 13/8, Course winner. 5/2, career best when winning 12-runner handicap at Kempton (8f) 32 days ago. Excellent chance of landing the hat-trick in a weak contest. Upwardly-mobile 4yo; on a hat-trick after stylish wins at Southwell/Kempton; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (9/2 +18%) Ana Emaraaty |
9/2(+18%) | (6) Ana Emaraaty 9/2, 2/1, career best when winning 9-runner minor event at Newcastle (8f) 3 days ago, digging deep. Blinkers back on. Should give his running again but there's more on his plate under a penalty. Deserved breakthrough win in 1m classified event at Newcastle three days ago; in the mix. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
STOIC SYD is in the form of his life at present and the drop in trip should not inconvenience as he looks to land the hat-trick for his in-form connections. The son of Zoffany should have too much for the capable Urban Dandy and Porfin, who has dropped to a mark 3lb lower then his last win. Not beaten too far when hampered over C&D last time out, Locked N' Loaded is another to consider.
STOIC SYD is thriving and most of his rivals are out of sorts, so this looks an excellent opportunity for him to complete the hat-trick. Urban Dandy and Locked N' Loaded have both been shaping better than the result, so they're considered the main dangers.
Not so competitive as the numbers suggest and thriving 4yo STOIC SYD (nap) gets a confident vote to notch up his hat-trick.

3/1(+25%) | (1) Heerathetrack 3/1, Won 7f classified events at Chelmsford and Kempton in January. Good placed efforts in handicaps back at Kempton last twice. Should go well again. Holds claims but will need to improve on his seven previous Tapeta efforts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (12/1 +0%) Higher Law |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Higher Law 12/1, Remains a maiden after 18 starts but he's been pretty consistent over 6f this year, placing twice at Wolverhampton. Should be thereabouts if as effective back at 7f. Regressive maiden; hard to keep giving him the benefit of the doubt. |

5th (4) (6/1 -9%) Princess Naomi |
6/1(-9%) | (4) Princess Naomi 6/1, Bit below form fifth of 11 in handicap (14/1) at Kempton (6f) 21 days ago but has dipped to 3 lb below her last winning mark. Not discounted with Murphy doing the steering again. Engaged 8.30 Newcastle Friday. On a handy mark now, again under Oisin Murphy, and is one to consider at this lower level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (22/1 -38%) Available Angel |
22/1(-38%) | (9) Available Angel 22/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. Sixth of 9 in handicap (9/1) at Wolverhampton (7f) 51 days ago. Others arrive with stronger claims. Record on Tapeta is patchy at best; some way down the pecking order back after short break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (22/1 -175%) Kodi Noir |
22/1(-175%) | (7) Kodi Noir 22/1, Unreliable sort. 4/1, shaped better than bare result when fifth of 8 in handicap at Lingfield (7f) 56 days ago, running on having been hampered. First run for yard after leaving Alice Haynes. Enters calculations. Again the danger he won't settle from a wide stall; is well treated if things fall right. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (25/1 -213%) Struck Gold |
25/1(-213%) | (6) Struck Gold 25/1, Won back to back around 1m at Wolverhampton and Chelmsford in November. Below par in recent starts but has dropped back to a winning mark. More consistent on Tapeta than other surfaces; interesting to see how he goes in market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (33/1 -136%) Simply Gorgeous |
33/1(-136%) | (3) Simply Gorgeous 33/1, 80/1, bit below form fifth of 9 in C&D handicap on reappearance 24 days ago. Could be sharper for the outing but others are still preferred. Not a bad run over C&D latest, back from a layoff, but is far from certain to back it up. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
HEERATHETRACK continued his good spell of form when finishing a close-up third at Kempton four days ago, having raced freely. Mark Usher's charge remains competitively handicapped judged on past exploits, though, and he would not need much more to regain the winning thread this evening. Kodi Noir has been running with more credit than his form figures would suggest and he is the main danger, while Balqaa might prove to be the best of the rest.
HEERATHETRACK has had a really good spell to start 2024 and might be good for another win. Kodi Noir is of some interest on his first outing for a new yard, while Balqaa is also respected on the back of his Newcastle second. Big Narstie could also have a say if turning out again after Newcastle on Friday.
The vote goes to PRINCESS NAOMI, who's slid to a handy mark and offered more latest. Big Narstie is a big threat if running again.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/1 -47%) Onesmoothoperator |
11/1(-47%) | (1) Onesmoothoperator 11/1, Course winner. Latest win at Newcastle in November. 13/2, good 1¼ lengths fourth of 10 to Skye Breeze in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 31 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Enters calculations. 12/1(-85%) | (5) Andaleep 12/1, Won 12-runner handicap (16/1) at this C&D 15 days ago by head from Artisan Dancer, just holding on. Can go well again despite taking a 3 lb rise. Proven winner who's 2-2 round here and is hard to knock out of the equation. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (12) (9/2 +25%) Skye Breeze |
9/2(+25%) | (12) Skye Breeze 9/2, 4/1, career best when bagging 10-runner handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 31 days ago by short head from Valsad. This C&D winner is weighted to go close again in his hat-trick bid. Four wins and a second in six runs in 1m4f Tapeta handicaps; enters calculations. |

5th (11) (4/1 +27%) Artisan Dancer |
4/1(+27%) | (11) Artisan Dancer 4/1, Course winner. 2/1, creditable second of 8 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f) 6 days ago, clear of rest. Ought to be in the shake-up. Enjoyed a good start to the year and he should go well once more. |

13/2(+54%) | (13) Heathen 13/2, C&D winner. Creditable seventh of 13 in handicap (10/1) at this course (16.5f) 15 days ago, left poorly placed. Back down in trip and very much one to consider. 2m may have stretched him here last time; should do better but others make greater appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (16/1 -60%) Queen Of Ipanema |
16/1(-60%) | (4) Queen Of Ipanema 16/1, Course winner. Creditable 2¾ lengths fifth of 10 to Skye Breeze in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f, 11/2) 31 days ago. Blinkers on 1st time and not ruled out. Prolific winner (7-13 on Tapeta); this as far as she wants in this company; needs better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (50/1 -52%) Sir Chauvelin |
50/1(-52%) | (9) Sir Chauvelin 50/1, Course winner. Latest win at Kempton in November. Last of 13 in handicap (28/1) at this course (16.5f) 15 days ago. Back down in trip. Dropped to a handy mark if shrugging off latest effort. Well into the veteran stage and this trip is an absolute minimum nowadays. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (14) (125/1 -400%) My Little Queens |
125/1(-400%) | (14) My Little Queens 125/1, Two wins from 6 runs last year but comes here below par, only sixth in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f) 9 days ago. Difficult ask. Has not been in any form since returning from six months off; only outside claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) (66/1 -100%) Sonnerie Power |
66/1(-100%) | (8) Sonnerie Power 66/1, Latest win at Kempton in October. 33/1, 8¾ lengths last of 11 to Queen of Ipanema in handicap at this course (11.1f) 52 days ago, folding. Something to prove now. Hasn't shone in three runs for his current yard; the handicapper's proving slow to relent. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (10) (20/1 -67%) Rhythmic Intent |
20/1(-67%) | (10) Rhythmic Intent 20/1, Seventeen runs since last win in 2021. Creditable 1½ lengths third of 12 to Andaleep in handicap at this C&D (16/1) 15 days ago. Not taken lightly off the same mark. Closely matched with Andaleep on recent C&D running but there are likelier winners. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
A wide open heat in which many will fancy their chances, so only a tentative vote can go to NOLTON CROSS. It was a warm class 2 in which the son of Dark Angel contested last month, when he finished fourth. Down in class and from an unchanged mark, he ought to be more than capable of mounting a stern challenge. Andaleep has won two of his last three starts and a 3lb rise for the latest of those, which came over this C&D, looks fair. Others to note include True Courage, Skye Breeze and Haku.
Lots with chances. Ed Bethell's C&D scorer SKYE BREEZE showed a good attitude when getting up at Newcastle and can complete a quick hat-trick at the chief expense of Artisan Dancer who can also boast a course success and came in a clear runner-up at Wolverhampton last time out. Heathen, Valsad, Nolton Cross and Onesmoothoperator all possess winning form around here too and also need factoring into this highly competitive handicap.
Andaleep, who's 2-2 round here, is respected but SKYE BREEZE has done nothing but progress in cheekpieces over the past year or so.
Ths is the racecard key.
