1st (4) (5/1 +0%) Zara's Universe |
5/1(+0%) | (4) Zara's Universe 5/1, Took a couple of handicap chases last spring and got back on track when third of 6 in handicap chase at Catterick (19.2f, soft) 31 days ago. In the mix once more with cheekpieces refitted. Won two in a row last spring; returned to form when third latest and she's one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/8 +50%) One Last Glance |
11/8(+50%) | (3) One Last Glance 11/8, Fair maiden hurdler who has been placed in all 3 handicaps this winter. Carried out soon after the first on his chasing debut at Fakenham last time so remains one to consider. In good form over hurdles and was favourite for chase debut (carried out early); respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (7/4 -75%) Superstylin |
7/4(-75%) | (2) Superstylin 7/4, Irish point winner who got back on the up on on his chase debut when a ready scorer at Lingfield in November. Up 6 lb but has more to offer after a break. Big player. Point winner who posted career best on chase debut in November; 6lb rise may not stop him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (22/1 -238%) Rafferty |
22/1(-238%) | (1) Rafferty 22/1, Won 2 of first 3 starts over fences for this yard 2 years ago (latter here) but hasn't shown much since. Others appeal more. Course winner; on a reduced mark and one to watch in betting, but major turnaround needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (9/1 +64%) Lonimoss Bareliere |
9/1(+64%) | (6) Lonimoss Bareliere 9/1, Remains a maiden after 26 runs and he came in last of 4 in handicap chase at Leicester (15.9f, heavy) 82 days ago. Very hard to make a case for. On a handy mark on form as recent as last summer but struggled towards end of last year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SUPERSTYLIN got off the mark at the first time of asking over fences at Lingfield in November and it would be no surprise to see him progress from that effort, despite the handicapper upping him 6lb. Plenty was expected of One Last Glance when sent off favourite for his chasing debut at Fakenham, but that ended abruptly when carried out after the first fence. The market support on that occasion suggests he is worth another chance to deliver, while Zara's Universe's recent third at Catterick entitles her to a place on the shortlist.
SUPERSTYLIN looked ahead of his mark when a stylish winner on his chasing debut at Lingfield and can make light of a 6 lb rise in the weights. Zara's Universe and One Last Glance appeal as the pick of the rest and can chase home Suzy Smith's 7-y-o in that order.
The switch to chasing prompted an improved performance from point winner SUPERSTYLIN and he is taken to make it 2-2 over fences.

1st (1) (5/2 -67%) Here Comes Mccoy |
5/2(-67%) | (1) Here Comes Mccoy 5/2, Low-mileage 9-y-o who made an inauspicious start over fences but produced a career-best back chasing when a clear-cut winner at Uttoxeter in January. Big shout up 8 lb. 11l win at Uttoxeter in January on belated second chase run; could take 8lb rise in stride. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (7/2 +13%) Coconut Splash |
7/2(+13%) | (4) Coconut Splash 7/2, Useful chaser at his best, but remains without a win in this sphere and only a fair third of 8 in handicap chase at Ffos Las (23.8f, heavy) 32 days ago. Possibilities off a 2 lb lower mark. 0-15 over fences but often runs well in defeat and might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (5/4 +50%) Storminhome |
5/4(+50%) | (3) Storminhome 5/4, Winning pointer/hurdler who got back on track in first-time cheekpieces when second of 8 in handicap chase at Doncaster (19.1f, good to soft) 36 days ago. Can go well again with headgear again sported. Runner-up over 2m3f in January and could have more to offer in the retained cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (6/1 -9%) Oscar Robertson |
6/1(-9%) | (5) Oscar Robertson 6/1, Scored at Wetherby in 2021 for Tom George and back from a long absence with creditable fourth placings at Leicester and Doncaster this winter. Shortlisted. Encouraging fourth at Doncaster on second run back from layoff; mark continues to fall. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The return to fences and stepping up in trip saw HERE COMES MCCOY in a completely different light when running out an 11-length winner at Uttoxeter. Connections appear to have found him an ideal opportunity to back that performance up, with all of his rivals having something to prove. Storminhome took a step in the right direction when second at Doncaster, but stamina has to be a concern based on his efforts prior. The booking of Harry Cobden could finally make the difference for Coconut Splash.
HERE COMES MCCOY has been hiked up 8 lb for his Uttoxeter success but had plenty left in the tank there so still looks the way to go. Recent Doncaster second Storminhome appeals as the main danger to Olly Murphy's consistent 9-y-o ahead of veteran Oscar Robertson.
Topweight HERE COMES MCCOY impressed on a belated second attempt over fences at Uttoxeter in January and an 8lb rise may not stop him.

1st (9) (10/1 +85%) Haven't Time |
10/1(+85%) | (9) Haven't Time 10/1, Winning pointer. In process of running well when falling in hunter chase at Ludlow on Rules debut in January 2022 but hasn't built on that in 4 subsequent starts (including hurdles), finishing a well-held fifth in a Taunton hunter 13 days ago. Has struggled on his last four starts, most recently in hunter chase at Taunton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (9/2 +72%) Polish |
9/2(+72%) | (10) Polish 9/2, Runner-up in handicap hurdles/chases on first 5 starts this season but recent efforts not so good, including disappointing when switched to a hunter at Wincanton last month. The refitting of cheekpieces needs to help spark a revival. Form took downturn towards end of last year, and pulled up in hunter chase last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (11/2 +66%) Drop Flight |
11/2(+66%) | (8) Drop Flight 11/2, Placed on 4 times in hunter chases last season but doens't seem, in the same form this winter, finishing well held in 2 handicap hurdles for (for Noel Williams) before pulling up in a Taunton hunter 13 days ago. Of interest on last season's best form but pulled up in recent hunter chase at Taunton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (5/2 -213%) Stratagem |
5/2(-213%) | (3) Stratagem 5/2, Useful sort who hasn't been seen since making all in a C&D hunter in May 2022. Has had wind surgery since. From a top yard so fitness unlikely to be an issue and sure to have a big say if he retains his ability. Returns from long absence but in top hands and leading claims on 2022 hunter chase form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (8/1 +33%) Go Steady |
8/1(+33%) | (6) Go Steady 8/1, Dual handicap chase winner last season but has been performing only respectably over hurdles/fences for Dan Skelton this season. Likely to find a few too strong on hunter debut. 12yo who hasn't been at his very best this season and therefore looks vulnerable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (11/4 +66%) Wick Green |
11/4(+66%) | (4) Wick Green 11/4, Fairly useful chaser with a consistent record for this stable, running well for fourth in a useful Wincanton hunter last month. Merely fourth in Wincanton hunter chase last month but case can be made on earlier form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (100/1 -100%) Aire Valley Lad |
100/1(-100%) | (1) Aire Valley Lad 100/1, Tricky customer who won a 3m Newcastle handicap chase for Sue Smith in November. Predictably not in the same form twice since and faces a stiff task on these terms now hunter chasing for a new stable. 10yo who has struggled the last twice and looks out of his depth in today's company. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
STRATAGEM had proven himself to be a more than useful recruit to this sphere, winning twice in 2022, and fitness is unlikely to be a concern on his first start for 22 months, especially if connections have one of the bigger spring contests as a target. Caryto Des Brosses won this contest 12 months ago and arrives this time with a run under his belt, having finished runner-up in a point-to-point at Garthorpe last month. Gaboriot and Wick Green complete the shortlist.
CARYTO DES BROSSES arrives fit from a point run last month and can land this race for the second year in succession. The returning Stratagem is another who has tasted hunter success over C&D and will be a big threat if retaining anything like his old ability. Gaboriot had a productive spell in handicap chases towards the end of 2023 and looks best of the rest.
Stratagem has a class edge but returns from a long absence. Preference is for GABORIOT who has been in top form in handicaps.

1st (7) (11/8 +8%) Rickety Bridge |
11/8(+8%) | (7) Rickety Bridge 11/8, Successful sole start in points and solid start under Rules first 2 starts (travelled well in listed Cheltenham contest in November). Well held at Wincanton 7 weeks ago but should have a future over jumps for all he's looked a bit on the weak side this term. 3m point winner who is open to improvement now up in trip on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (20/1 -344%) Give Me A Boom |
20/1(-344%) | (4) Give Me A Boom 20/1, Back from 22 months off when second of 8 in novice at Uttoxeter (15.8f, heavy) on hurdles bow 37 days ago. Entitled to build on that and will be suited by stiffer test of stamina here. Form of well-beaten hurdle debut second looks pretty modest; improvement is needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (40/1 -186%) Ascension Day |
40/1(-186%) | (1) Ascension Day 40/1, Looked all set to record a big-priced debut win under Rules only to career off the course late on at Worcester last summer. In trouble quite early and disappointing 6 months on at Cheltenham. Up in trip now. Tailed off last time but in hot race; set to win at Worcester last June but ran out late. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (5/4 +29%) Long Draw |
5/4(+29%) | (5) Long Draw 5/4, £60,000 Irish point recruit who shaped well when third of 14 in 19f Taunton novice hurdle on debut for new connections, finishing with running left. Sure to improve and leading claims. Point runner-up who was fair third on rules debut and is in good hands to progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (25/1 +0%) Dunworley |
25/1(+0%) | (3) Dunworley 25/1, Made the frame in several points. Fair second on completed start in hunters last summer but a watching brief is the percentage call now hurdling for a new stable. Has shown ability in hunter chase but might be best watched on hurdle debut after absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (8/1 +43%) Youlneverwalkalone |
8/1(+43%) | (8) Youlneverwalkalone 8/1, Clear signs of ability in bumpers last year and some encouragement when fourth in a novice at Ludlow (21.2f) on hurdling debut. Disappointing at Doncaster next time, though. Well beaten last time but encouraging hurdle debut previously and could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (12/1 -50%) Captains Road |
12/1(-50%) | (2) Captains Road 12/1, £22,500 5-y-o, Doyen gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser (stayed 21f) Theo. Winning Irish pointer can't be discounted despite having a long absence to overcome. Makes rules debut after long absence but won Irish maiden point when last seen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (200/1 -100%) Madra Morjohn |
200/1(-100%) | (6) Madra Morjohn 200/1, Out of a 3¼m/27f hurdle winner but sent off a huge price on debut in Warwick bumper in April and showed nothing. 125-1, tailed off on debut in Warwick bumper (good) last April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (200/1 -100%) Conniegetaway |
200/1(-100%) | (9) Conniegetaway 200/1, Modest form shown in three bumpers. Unseated rider second on hurdles debut at Hereford (19.7f) 4 months ago. Modest form in bumpers and 250-1 when early faller on hurdle debut in November. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LONG DRAW caught the eye when a running-on third over 2m3f at Taunton and with that experience under his belt, coupled with the step up in trip, the Olly Murphy-trained five-year-old gets the vote to come home in front. Point-to-point winner Rickety Bridge has shown ability in bumpers this season and, making his hurdling debut, Paul Nicholls' representative may emerge as the biggest danger. Captains Road, who also struck between the flags, merits consideration on his first start under Rules.
LONG DRAW made a promising start over hurdles at Taunton 9 weeks ago and has good claims with improvement to come and Sean Bowen up. Rickety Bridge seems sure to have a future over jumps and looks the danger on his hurdles debut, ahead of Give Me A Boom.
This could go to the 3m point winner RICKETY BRIDGE who could build on his bumper promise now up in trip on his hurdle debut.

1st (4) (9/2 +25%) Our Pink Lady |
9/2(+25%) | (4) Our Pink Lady 9/2, Placed both starts over hurdles for Stuart Crawford and recorded her best effort for current yard when third of 7 over 2m at Fakenham before Christmas. Needs to build on that but good chance that she will down 2 lb with Harry Cobden taking over. Lightly raced and this step back up in trip is worth a go, but she needs to raise her game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (4/1 +43%) Young At Heart |
4/1(+43%) | (5) Young At Heart 4/1, Positive start when third on debut in a Fakenham bumper on debut last season but has become increasingly temperamental since (no show all 3 starts in this sphere) and big step forward needed now handicapping in a first-time hood. Well beaten so far over hurdles but she's a possible improver on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (15/8 +53%) After Many Days |
15/8(+53%) | (3) After Many Days 15/8, Made the frame first 2 starts in novice events and didn't perform at all badly under an inexperienced amateur when fifth of 13 on handicap debut at Leicester (20.5f, heavy). 1 lb lower now and she has to enter calculations. Looked a threat until fading on heavy-ground handicap debut at Leicester; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (9/1 -38%) Kalpaga |
9/1(-38%) | (2) Kalpaga 9/1, French import who was hit hard by the handicapper after making all in a handicap hurdle at Hereford last spring. Save for a respectable effort at Ludlow in December, she hasn't cut much ice switched to fences this season but may well bounce back returned to this sphere on the back of a wind op. Mixed fortunes in chases this term but in fine form last April when last tackling hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (15/2 +17%) Dazzling Dove |
15/2(+17%) | (7) Dazzling Dove 15/2, Remains a maiden following 13 attempts in this sphere and while she wouldn't be without a chance if reproducing the form of her C&D second last March, the percentage call is to look elsewhere given her subsequent exploits. On a handy mark and could be working her way back into form; cheekpieces go on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (12/1 +40%) Annie Day |
12/1(+40%) | (6) Annie Day 12/1, Goes well fresh, as she demonstrated when making a winning reappearance at Warwick in November. However, commensurate with her rather up-and-down profile she has failed to back that up in 3 subsequent starts, including with the visor enlisted (retained here) last time. Won on reappearance at Warwick (2m3f, soft) in November but she's struggled since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (15/2 -125%) Kosasiempre |
15/2(-125%) | (1) Kosasiempre 15/2, Has hinted at ability in a trio of mares' novice hurdles but not enough to make her of serious interest off this opening mark now pitched into a handicap. Improvement needed on handicap debut but trainer is in tremendous form; one to consider. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ANNIE DAY showed up well for a long way before fading into fourth in testing conditions over 3m1f at Huntingdon and, eased 2lb now coming back in trip, she gets a tentative vote in what looks a trappy affair. The less-exposed After Many Days arrives on the back of a creditable fifth on her handicap bow at Leicester and can make her presence felt off 1lb lower. Our Pink Lady represents a trainer in form and cannot be discounted.
AFTER MANY DAYS made a fairly encouraging start in handicaps when fifth at Leicester and, with Pipers Cross due to run at Huntingdon on Sunday, she could be the answer off a 1 lb lower mark. Our Pink Lady wasn't disgraced at Fakenham last time and she is second choice ahead of Kalpaga, who will be a danger to all if back to something like her best returned to this sphere following an unsuccessful stint over fences.
Having looked a big threat before fading on heavy ground at Leicester, AFTER MANY DAYS gets the nod on her second handicap start.

1st (2) (9/1 -125%) Kilta |
9/1(-125%) | (2) Kilta 9/1, Latest effort at Carlisle wasn't particularly promising but he had previously shaped with encouragement at Hexham and Sedgefield. On a realistic mark for this handicap debut and improvement could be on the cards. Below par last time but promise previously and has chance on h'cap debut if bouncing back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (15/2 -173%) We Got Your Back |
15/2(-173%) | (5) We Got Your Back 15/2, Produced by far his best effort yet when overhauled close home in this headgear combination on recent handicap bow over C&D. That wasn't a particularly strong race, though, and more will be needed if he's to go one better this time. Close second of four over C&D on recent handicap debut and he's respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (Evens +43%) Samazul |
Evens(+43%) | (3) Samazul Evens, Bumper winner here last season and bettered what he showed on first 2 hurdles starts when fifth in a big-field Newbury novice (16.3f, soft). Tongue strap enlisted for this handicap debut and another step forward is anticipated. Newbury 5th came in warm race and he may well have been let in lightly for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (13/2 -44%) Arabescato |
13/2(-44%) | (4) Arabescato 13/2, Fairly useful handicapper at his best on the Flat, albeit he largely struggled last year. Still, he stepped up on his hurdles debut when fourth of 11 in a C&D novice (soft) starting out for this yard last month and may do better again now switched to a handicap. Five-time Flat winner; fair fourth over C&D on stable debut; a possible now in a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (11/4 +61%) Joker Du Chenet |
11/4(+61%) | (6) Joker Du Chenet 11/4, Respectable efforts at best for Stuart Crawford but needs close attention in the betting on debut for a yard that is proving so adept at getting the best out of its recruits from rival yards. Sports first-time cheekpieces. Lightly raced; needs step forward but new stable does well with recruits from other yards. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
WE GOT YOUR BACK was sporting a hood for the first time (retained) when finishing a gallant second in a similar race to this over C&D last month, and off an unchanged mark, he holds every chance of going one place better. The class-dropping Samazul should find this company more manageable than when fifth in a warm race at Newbury over an extended 2m in January, and he may give the selection most to think about, while Joker Du Chenet gives the impression that the application of cheekpieces will aid his cause, and he merits consideration.
The one who appeals most is SAMAZUL, who took a definite step in the right direction in a Newbury novice in January and he should have more to offer now venturing down the handicap route. Joker du Chenet is an intriguing candidate on debut for the shrewd James Owen yard and he is feared most ahead of Kilta and Arabescato.
Bumper winner SAMAZUL (nap) could be on a good mark for this handicap debut judged on his fifth in a warm Newbury maiden last time.
Ths is the racecard key.
