1st (8) (11/1 +0%) Bollin Margaret |
11/1(+0%) | (8) Bollin Margaret 11/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Pontefract in July. Seventh of 11 in handicap at Windsor (11.4f, good to firm, 33/1) 12 days ago. Rather hit and miss lately and there's not much wiggle room off this mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4.5/1 -80%) Tele Red |
4.5/1(-80%) | (2) Tele Red 4.5/1, Latest win at York in July. Respectable third of 11 in handicap (13/8) at Pontefract (8f, good) chasing a hat-trick 20 days ago. Back up in trip and mark now looks about right but he's clearly in excellent order. Better than ever of late, looking a bit unlucky last time; holds leading claims once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (3.33/1 +39%) Tarbaan |
3.33/1(+39%) | (5) Tarbaan 3.33/1, Creditable fourth of 11 in handicap (5/1) at Redcar (10f, good to firm) on Saturday. Likely to give it another good go. Offering more off today's career-low mark lately but this race looks a bit stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (6.5/1 -86%) Unplugged |
6.5/1(-86%) | (7) Unplugged 6.5/1, Two wins from 4 runs this year. Latest win at Pontefract in July. Third of 5 in handicap at Haydock (10.2f, good to firm, 10/11) 18 days ago. Clearly going through a very good spell. Maybe found this mark beyond him when beaten at a short price last time; 7lb claimer up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (6.5/1 +35%) Dungar Glory |
6.5/1(+35%) | (1) Dungar Glory 6.5/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Leicester in June. 9/1, eighth of 12 in handicap at this course (8f, good to soft) 10 days ago. Back up in trip. Has to be taken seriously down in class. Made all off 6lb lower over C&D in June; return to this trip should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (8.5/1 -13%) King Triton |
8.5/1(-13%) | (3) King Triton 8.5/1, Good fifth of 13 in handicap at Doncaster (10.2f, good to firm, 20/1) 10 days ago. That was much more like it following a disappointing 2022 campaign. and he's potentially well handicapped. Low mileage; better from the front on his comeback and that gave something to build on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (5.5/1 +8%) Bringbackmemories |
5.5/1(+8%) | (4) Bringbackmemories 5.5/1, Winner at Haydock in June. 9/1, ninth of 11 in handicap at Haydock (10.2f, heavy) 23 days ago. Ground a potential excuse as he'd been in excellent order prior to that. Didn't see it out on heavy last time; previously in good form for last year's winning yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (66/1 -100%) Cedar Rapids |
66/1(-100%) | (10) Cedar Rapids 66/1, One win from 26 Flat runs. Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. Last of 7 in handicap at Catterick (12.1f, good, 25/1) 34 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Not easy to make a case for. This is tougher than the races he's been contesting of late; 3lb out of the handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (25/1 -56%) Master Of Combat |
25/1(-56%) | (9) Master Of Combat 25/1, Sixth of 9 in handicap (11/1) at Newmarket (10f, good to firm) 18 days ago, lacking a change of pace. Not running badly since returned to turf; holds each-way claims in an open handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (8.5/1 +29%) Magical Mile |
8.5/1(+29%) | (6) Magical Mile 8.5/1, Bit below form 7¼ lengths sixth of 10 to Bringbackmemories in handicap (7/1) at Haydock (10.2f, good to firm) 66 days ago. Showed enough in early summer to suggest he wants considering back from a two-month break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
UNPLUGGED was thwarted in his hat-trick bid at Haydock earlier in the month, but apprentice Lewis Chalkley now takes off 7lb and can get the in-form seven-year-old back on the winning trail. Tele Red was also unable to land a three-timer when third at Pontefract last time, but should not be taken lightly now eased in class. Bringbackmemories may appreciate quicker conditions and also enters the reckoning.
Quite a few to consider with KING TRITON just about the most persuasive option for his in-form yard on the back of a promising reappearance from his reduced mark. Tele Red and Unplugged both came up short in their respective hat-trick bids last time but remain of firm interest.
Better than ever this year, TELE RED is preferred to Magical Mile, a dual 1m2f winner last summer for Benoit De La Sayette.

1st (1) (2/1 -14%) Due For Luck |
2/1(-14%) | (1) Due For Luck 2/1, Promising sort. 9/1, won 9-runner maiden at Carlisle (5f, good to soft) on debut 62 days ago, readily. Open to progress. Won easily on debut at Carlisle two months ago; holds solid claims under a small penalty. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (1.62/1 +60%) South Shore |
1.62/1(+60%) | (7) South Shore 1.62/1, Blue Point colt. Dam 7f winner. Makes plenty of appeal on paper for a stable more than capable of readying one. Betting shuld guide. Yard's strike-rate with 2yos down this year but good record here; watch the market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (40/1 -150%) Fifty Grand Slater |
40/1(-150%) | (3) Fifty Grand Slater 40/1, Fair form. 18/1 and blinkered first time, good second of 8 in nursery at Wolverhampton (5f) 12 days ago. More will be needed now back in a novice. More on his plate today; would have been 15lb better off with Instant Recall in a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (50/1 -25%) Bill's Baar |
50/1(-25%) | (2) Bill's Baar 50/1, 50/1, sixth of 8 in novice at this course (6f, good, 50/1) on debut 10 days ago. Rather in at the deep end on his recent 6f debut here; this too is probably beyond him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (4.5/1 -64%) Saint Matthew |
4.5/1(-64%) | (6) Saint Matthew 4.5/1, 8/1, second of 9 in maiden at Pontefract (6f, good) on debut 20 days ago, leading for long way and pulling clear of rest. Open to improvement. Came away with the more experienced winner on debut; goes on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (6/1 -80%) Instant Recall |
6/1(-80%) | (4) Instant Recall 6/1, Second in a 5f Haydock novice in June and ran well in the face of a stiff task when eighth of 20 in the Newbury Super Sprint last month. Not beaten far on his side of the course in the Super Sprint last time but is exposed now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Instant Recall was far from disgraced when eighth in the Super Sprint at Newbury last month and should be involved if producing a similar level of performance here. Nevertheless, DUE FOR LUCK made a big impression when successful on his debut at Carlisle in June, with John Quinn's gelding taken to defy a 3lb penalty. Saint Matthew offered plenty of encouragement when runner-up effort at Pontefract three weeks ago and also enters calculations now dropped to 5f.
DUE FOR LUCK looked potentially useful when a ready winner on his Carlisle debut in June and is taken give the weight away to Instant Recall and Saint Matthew. Newcomer South Shore would also need considering if the betting speaks for him.
There was plenty to like about the way DUE FOR LUCK strung them out on debut and he can defy the 3lb concession to Saint Matthew.

1st (4) (5/1 -67%) Chumbaa |
5/1(-67%) | (4) Chumbaa 5/1, Finally off the mark in 6-runner maiden at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) 15 days ago, leading before halfway and drawing clear gradually. Into nurseries now and ought to remain competitive. Relatively exposed but very likely to run her race and worth respect on nursery debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (3/1 +0%) Be Here Now |
3/1(+0%) | (6) Be Here Now 3/1, Showed improved form when third of 9 on nursery debut at Musselburgh (5f, good) 35 days ago, despite not being ideally placed. May do better still. Finished a close third on nursery debut at Musselburgh five weeks ago; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (3.5/1 +68%) Scoops Ahoy |
3.5/1(+68%) | (1) Scoops Ahoy 3.5/1, Winner at Hamilton in June and returned to form when second of 4 at Sandown earlier in the month. However, ran below form switched to all-weather at Wolverhampton 12 days ago and looks vulnerable once again. Tongue strap on for 1st time. In and out of late and others are more convincing; tongue-tie on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (10/1 -67%) Vitarli |
10/1(-67%) | (2) Vitarli 10/1, Confirmed debut promise when winning novice event at Beverley (5f) in April, rallying to lead near finish. Found out under a penalty at Goodwood since and now goes handicapping after a break. Still unexposed and respected on nursery debut if break has done her good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (6.5/1 -63%) Reflexion Faite |
6.5/1(-63%) | (3) Reflexion Faite 6.5/1, Lightly-raced maiden who backed up her Sandown effort when third of 9 in minor event at Thirsk (5f, good to firm) 18 days ago, well drawn. Makes handicap debut and should go well. Steadily progressing and respected if taking another step forward on nursery debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (20/1 -233%) Lotting's Lass |
20/1(-233%) | (7) Lotting's Lass 20/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Sixth of 7 in maiden (22/1) at Musselburgh (5f, good) 55 days ago. May do better now tackling a low-grade nursery. Seems to be struggling to stay the minimum trip; nursery debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (4/1 +43%) Tees Douge |
4/1(+43%) | (5) Tees Douge 4/1, Showed improved form while looking a bit tricky when third on nursery debut at Catterick in July. Not disgraced at Musselburgh subsequently but again looked a hard ride. Behind Be Here Now at Musselburgh last time; has shown a tendency to hang. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Chumbaa put her experience to good use when scoring in a maiden at Hamilton recently and her mark looks workable. However, BE HERE NOW makes slightly more appeal after finishing third on his nursery debut at Musselburgh and may be able to make light work of a 2lb rise in the ratings. Vitarli and Reflexion Faite have claims on their best form now entering this sphere too.
REFLEXION FAITE was unlucky to bump into Miaharris on her penultimate start at Sandown and looks interesting on that piece of form now switching to a low-level nursery, so she receives the vote. The dangers are headed by Be Here Now, who may do better still, and recent Hamilton-scorer Chumbaa.
The vote goes to REFLEXION FAITE who has improved with each start. The form of her last two efforts has been franked.

1st (1) (5/1 +23%) Twelfth Knight |
5/1(+23%) | (1) Twelfth Knight 5/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in May. First run since leaving Ruth Carr when fourteenth of 18 in Great St Wilfrid handicap over C&D (good, 25/1) 10 days ago, going with little fluency. Needs to bounce back but drop in class a plus. Suited by this track but made ordinary start for new yard latest and needs a career best. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (4/1 +0%) Origintrail |
4/1(+0%) | (3) Origintrail 4/1, C&D winner. Creditable second of 5 in handicap (13/2) at this course (5f, good to soft) 22 days ago, receiving a hefty bump early but keeping on well to just fail. Comes here on a fair mark and she's one to be interested in. Won't mind the extra furlong or faster ground off a mark just 1lb higher; leading player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (3.5/1 -17%) Impeller |
3.5/1(-17%) | (9) Impeller 3.5/1, Latest win at Carlisle in July. 12/1, good second of 17 in Silver Trophy handicap at this C&D (good) 10 days ago. Expected to be thereabouts again in present groove. Back in form here last time; player but a 3lb rise sees him back on a career-high mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (18/1 +18%) Catch Cunningham |
18/1(+18%) | (8) Catch Cunningham 18/1, Fifteenth of 17 in handicap (40/1) at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 79 days ago, stumbling badly leaving stalls. Absent subsequently and both career victories have come at the minimum trip. Returns from a break today having been out of sorts in the spring; has run well fresh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/1 -29%) Abate |
9/1(-29%) | (2) Abate 9/1, C&D winner. 3 wins from 9 runs this year. Latest win at Windsor in July. 4/1, seventh of 8 in handicap at Thirsk (5f, good to soft) 11 days ago, unable to adopt usual prominent position. No surprise to see him back to form. Drawn to attack but has never won off a mark this high and ran flat 11 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (6.5/1 +0%) Showtime Mahomes |
6.5/1(+0%) | (6) Showtime Mahomes 6.5/1, Below form ninth of 15 in handicap at York (6f, good to firm, 14/1) 73 days ago, weakening over 1f out. Arrives here with yard in good form and he's run well at this venue previously. One to note if strong in the betting. Has not built on his soft-ground C&D comeback second; some way down the pecking order. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (18/1 -13%) Russco |
18/1(-13%) | (5) Russco 18/1, Rattled off a quick-fire 5-timer in handicaps for Donald McCain during summer 2021. However, proved more miss than hit for that yard last term and he's likely best watched returning from 10 months off here. Entitled to need this, going for a new yard back from a third round of wind surgery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (7.5/1 -7%) Mark's Choice |
7.5/1(-7%) | (4) Mark's Choice 7.5/1, 5-time C&D winner. Sixteenth of 17 in Silver Trophy handicap at this C&D (good, 10/1) 10 days ago, never involved on the back of 11 weeks off. Visor refitted now and worth noting he won this race from a 6 lb higher mark 12 months ago. Has seven course wins to his name, including this race last year; should do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (14/1 -40%) Shallow Hal |
14/1(-40%) | (10) Shallow Hal 14/1, Latest win at Carlisle in July. Sixth of 7 in claimer (7/2) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 15 days ago, slowly away and always behind. Others make greater appeal for win purposes. Popped up off his lower turf mark early last month but hasn't repeated the effort since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (20/1 -25%) Toussarok |
20/1(-25%) | (7) Toussarok 20/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2022. Last of 9 in handicap (22/1) at Sandown (7f, good to soft) 19 days ago. A lot of recent racing at 7f; three poor efforts back on turf leave him hard to fancy. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Not beaten far when runner-up in the Silver Trophy over C&D recently, IMPELLER sets the standard on that piece of form and can notch up a fifth career success. A winner at Windsor on his penultimate outing, Abate can give the selection most to think about, along with Origintrail, who should be suited by going back up in trip following a narrow defeat over 5f last time out.
ORIGINTRAIL remains a low-mileage 4-y-o and, having slipped in the weights, looked a shade unlucky not to win when just touched off over 5f here 3 weeks ago. The return to this trip will hold no fears (both career victories gained at 6f) and she earns the vote to confirm the promise of that run. Impeller, runner-up in the Silver Trophy over C&D 10 days ago, and multiple C&D scorer Mark's Choice are others to consider, along with Abate.
Mark's Choice should do better but ORIGINTRAIL (nap) has slid to a handy mark and looks the one after a much better run last time.

1st (5) (5/1 -82%) Tobetso |
5/1(-82%) | (5) Tobetso 5/1, Won a 7f Brighton handicap on final start for William Haggas and made a positive start for new connections when second 9 in handicap at Haydock (7f, good) 17 days ago, clear of rest. Unexposed and much respected. Clear second for new yard latest; leading claims upped 3lb if the extra furlong helps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (20/1 -67%) Satin Snake |
20/1(-67%) | (2) Satin Snake 20/1, Eighth of 11 in handicap (28/1) at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm) 13 days ago, needing stronger gallop. On a workable mark. Still to finish placed after ten runs on turf; has done most racing over 7f; outsider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (8/1 +11%) Touchwood |
8/1(+11%) | (3) Touchwood 8/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2021. Seventh of 13 in handicap at Thirsk (1m, good to soft, 22/1) 11 days ago, not clear run. Has dropped to a mark in the 60s for the first time. Unlucky not to finish closer on his first go over this far last time; well treated now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (2.75/1 +54%) Cosmos Raj |
2.75/1(+54%) | (1) Cosmos Raj 2.75/1, C&D winner in July. 7/1, respectable fourth of 10 in handicap at Pontefract (1m, good to soft) 30 days ago. One to consider under Tudhope from a handy draw. Three wins and a second in nine runs here; nothing went right on latest; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (12/1 -71%) Motarajel |
12/1(-71%) | (12) Motarajel 12/1, C&D winner. Respectable sixth of 13 in handicap (9/2) at Nottingham 14 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Back down in trip. Not much luck this summer and the drop back from 1m2f should help, so he's considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (9/1 +68%) Bungley |
9/1(+68%) | (11) Bungley 9/1, Below the mark he won off at Ripon last August but hasn't fired in her 3 outings this year. Well treated now but hard to recommend and Motarajel looks her trainer's best shot. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (18/1 -29%) Atlantic Heart |
18/1(-29%) | (9) Atlantic Heart 18/1, 25/1, thirteenth of 16 in handicap at Doncaster (7f, good to firm) 10 days ago but had been a creditable third on Newcastle's AW prior to that. Sole win came on the AW and she's gone beyond 7f only once; needs to settle better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (12/1 -100%) Saisons D'Or |
12/1(-100%) | (7) Saisons D'Or 12/1, Arrives on the back of creditable in-frame efforts on his last 4 outings, including third over C&D last month. Likely to be competitive again. Last seven wins have come in May or earlier; in fair form but there is other pace in here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (18/1 -177%) End Zone |
18/1(-177%) | (8) End Zone 18/1, Latest win at Hamilton in May. 8/1, creditable third of 9 in handicap at Musselburgh (7f, good) 18 days ago. Stall 12 is not good for one happiest on the sharp end; has won only one of his last 22. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (8.5/1 +6%) Vondelpark |
8.5/1(+6%) | (6) Vondelpark 8.5/1, C&D winner last year. Added to his tally at Thirsk (1m) in July but needs to shrug off a poor run at Redcar since. Front-runner who's well suited by an easy, turning 1m; the return here should help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (5.5/1 +39%) Pol Roger |
5.5/1(+39%) | (4) Pol Roger 5.5/1, Respectable fourth of 9 in handicap (12/1) at Haydock (1m, good) 17 days ago. Claims if a wide draw isn't too big of an inconvenience. Cheekpieces have helped; not ruled out for a trainer who won both divisions in 2020. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (10) (100/1 -150%) Kovu |
100/1(-150%) | (10) Kovu 100/1, No impact in both handicaps and further 3 lb drop in his mark isn't enough to make him of any interest. Twice well beaten since handicapping; this is easier down 3lb but he's hard to fancy. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
An eye-catcher when keeping on for second over 7f on his first run for new connections at Haydock recently, TOBETSO looks the one to be with if building on that effort. The step up in trip looks like a major plus and he should have too much for the likes of End Zone and Saisons D'Or, who has been in consistent form of late. Others to note are Pol Roger and Cosmos Raj.
TOUCHWOOD didn't enjoy the rub of the green last time and might be worth chancing now down to a clear career-low mark. Tobetso is a 3-y-o heading in the right direction and rates an obvious danger, while Cosmos Raj is also respected as a former C&D winner who is handily drawn.
This could well be set up for something from off the pace and COSMIC RAJ, a three-time late-summer course winner, gets the nod.

1st (1) (3.5/1 +13%) Spantik |
3.5/1(+13%) | (1) Spantik 3.5/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2021. 2/1, creditable third of 12 in handicap at Redcar (14f, good to firm) 17 days ago, albeit looking hard work before sticking to his task. Went close a couple of times round here; happier back up from 1m6f, so has major claims. |

2nd (7) (2.25/1 +10%) Michael's Pledge |
2.25/1(+10%) | (7) Michael's Pledge 2.25/1, 10/3 and blinkered for first time, good second of 12 in handicap at Redcar (14f, good to firm) 17 days ago. Not yet exposed so has to be taken seriously. Closely matched with Spantik; well up to winning at this level now upped from 1m6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (3.33/1 +33%) Marbuzet |
3.33/1(+33%) | (2) Marbuzet 3.33/1, Course winner. Creditable third of 13 in handicap (7/1) at Musselburgh (14f, good) 18 days ago, running on. More consistent than most at this level. More likely than most to give his running but needs to find a bit more from somewhere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (4.5/1 -100%) Mass Consumption |
4.5/1(-100%) | (6) Mass Consumption 4.5/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Very good third of 8 in novice event at Catterick (12.1f, good, 4/1) 8 days ago. Significantly up in trip and looks well weighted back in a handicap. Solid run in novice company last week; has stamina to prove but is interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (33/1 -32%) Beyond Beauty |
33/1(-32%) | (10) Beyond Beauty 33/1, 18/1, below form fourth of 8 in handicap at this course (12f, good to soft) 10 days ago, merely passing beaten rivals. Significantly up in trip. Exposed maiden who was beaten a long way over 1m4f here last time. |

6th (9) (12/1 -33%) A Day To Dream |
12/1(-33%) | (9) A Day To Dream 12/1, 9/1, bit below form fourth of 12 in handicap at Redcar (14f, good to firm) 17 days ago. Some way off Michael's Pledge and Spantik at Redcar; needs to settle better upped in trip. |

7th (3) (12/1 +14%) Yasmin From York |
12/1(+14%) | (3) Yasmin From York 12/1, Ninth of 12 in handicap at Redcar (14f, good to firm, 10/1) 17 days ago. Almost certainly needed that first start in 14 months and this will reveal more. Entitled to have needed her return recently from more than a year off but didn't show much. |

66/1(-65%) | (5) Wheal Kitty 66/1, Eighth of 12 in handicap at Newcastle (10.2f, 33/1) 26 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Wouldn't make much appeal even without the stamina concerns. |

9th (8) (80/1 -220%) Burnage Boy |
80/1(-220%) | (8) Burnage Boy 80/1, Remains a maiden after 29 Flat runs. 15/2, creditable sixth of 10 in handicap hurdle at Hexham (16.2f, good) 65 days ago. Others more persuasive back on the level. One of his better efforts over hurdles when last seen but holds only each-way claims. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A maiden after six starts, the step up to two miles can work the oracle for MICHAEL'S PLEDGE as he looks to get off the mark following a career-best effort when runner-up at Redcar last time out. Similar comments apply to the unexposed Mass Consumption, while Spantik may not have won since September 2021 but is well handicapped on his old form. The shortlist is completed by Marbuzet and A Day To Dream.
A literal reading of MASS CONSUMPTION's third-placed finish in novice company last time suggests he's a fair way ahead of the handicapper so assuming he stays 2m, a first win looks on the cards. Michael's Pledge and Marbuzet also have something to recommend them.
There's little to choose between Michael's Pledge and Spantik. It could be worth chancing the stamina of MASS CONSUMPTION.
Ths is the racecard key.
