18/1(-350%) | (4) Marton Heads 18/1, Foaled March 6. 3,500 gns foal, Outstrip colt. Dam unraced half-sister to useful winner up to 9f Exodus. Some paper appeal but stable's newcomers usually better for a run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (50/1 +50%) Bargain Basement |
50/1(+50%) | (2) Bargain Basement 50/1, 2,000 gns foal, Coach House colt. Brother to useful 6f winner Spirit of May and 2-y-o 7f-8.6f winner Never In Fourth and half-brother to 6f-1m winner Chassis. 33/1, tenth of 11 in minor event at Thirsk (5f, heavy) on debut 16 days ago, missing break. 33-1, green and always in rear on this month's Thirsk debut; needs plenty more. |

8th (3) (125/1 -25%) Major Kessaar |
125/1(-25%) | (3) Major Kessaar 125/1, Well held in minor events at Beverley and Ripon, slowly away both times. Out the back in two 5f events last month and difficult to recommend. |

Dam lightly-raced half-sister to useful winner up to 11.5f Kayah. 18/1, last of 11 in maiden at Wolverhampton (5.1f) on debut 7 days ago. Reared at the start and rider lost irons when tailed off on last week's debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Persian Phoenix looks as if she will be better suited by further in time as a daughter of Phoenix Of Spain, but the Johnston yard will have her ready to run first time out. ARC SHADOWFAX did show some promise when fourth after a slow start over shorter at Thirsk, though, and if he adds to that, he could put his experience to good use. Chumbaa may try to make all and could take some catching.
Not much to shout about regarding those with experience, and newcomers might come to the fore, with PERSIAN PHOENIX appealing most as a half-sister to a couple of useful performers. Vice Captain has claims on paper also, while Chumbaa sets the standard amongst those with experience, though it's a modest one.
Persian Phoenix looks the pick of the newcomers but ARC SHADOWFAX showed promise in a much better race on debut and can improve.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (33/1 +34%) Miss Rainbow |
33/1(+34%) | (9) Miss Rainbow 33/1, Twice-raced filly. Better effort when sixth of 8 in maiden (150/1) at Newcastle (5f) 13 days ago. Needs another big step forward. Seemed to show more at Newcastle last time but she may be flattered by it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (3.6/1 -8%) Night Safari |
3.6/1(-8%) | (3) Night Safari 3.6/1, Foaled March 26. €12,000 yearling, Shalaa colt. Half-brother to 3 winners, including winner up to 1m Akmaam and 2-y-o 5f winner Rainbow Mist, both useful. 12,000euros half-brother to three useful winners; one to consider on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (28/1 -180%) Patronage |
28/1(-180%) | (4) Patronage 28/1, Foaled March 31. 8,000 gns foal, €5,000 yearling, Masar colt. Half-brother to 7f winners Fae The Port and O' Galantuom. Half-bro to two winners; likely to need further; yard's newcomers usually better for a run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (28/1 +58%) Bellestarr |
28/1(+58%) | (8) Bellestarr 28/1, Twice-raced filly. 80/1, eighth of 11 in minor event at Thirsk (5f, heavy) 16 days ago. Big prices and well beaten in two 5f runs; extra furlong needs to spark something. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (7/1 -27%) Chatty |
7/1(-27%) | (1) Chatty 7/1, Foaled February 9. 10,000 gns yearling, Ulysses colt. Dam, maiden (stayed 7f), out of smart winner up to 7f (2-y-o 6f winner) Tropical Paradise. 10,000gns yearling; dam a fair maiden; starts out in a modest race and worth market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (20/1 -25%) Ryoto |
20/1(-25%) | (5) Ryoto 20/1, Foaled April 6. Dragon Pulse gelding. Half-brother to useful winner up to 7.4f Peak Princess and 6f winner Hitchslap. Dam twice-raced half-sister to smart winner up to 1m Cheyenne Star. Half-brother to a couple of winners, one useful, but yard's record with 2yos is modest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (12/1 -20%) Supreme Tenacity |
12/1(-20%) | (6) Supreme Tenacity 12/1, Foaled March 7. €2,000 yearling, resold €9,000 yearling, Invincible Army colt. Half-brother to winner abroad by Zoffany. Dam, unraced, closely related to US Grade 3 8.5f winner Happy Hunting. 9,000euros yearling; half-brother to a winner in Czechia; first 2yo of the year for stable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
With precious little worthwhile form to go on, this may fall to one of the newcomers and if Archie Watson's CHATURANGA is ready to roll, he can go close under Hollie Doyle and prove a shrewd purchase at 8,500gns. Ryoto has plenty of speed in his pedigree and is worthy of a market watch, while Up The Jazz was only seventh at Beverley on debut but the experience will stand him in good stead.
Like the first division, this looks likely to go to a newcomer, with CHATURANGA the one who appeals most on paper. Night Safari is another interesting newcomer, while Up The Jazz needs a lot more but will probably take a step forward from his debut.
Up The Jazz can improve significantly on his debut run but CHATURANGA is a likely type on paper and gets the nod.

1st (2) (1.38/1 +45%) Milteye |
1.38/1(+45%) | (2) Milteye 1.38/1, Fair form. Third of 7 in maiden at Goodwood (1m, heavy, 5/2) 16 days ago. Cheekpieces on first time. Placed in all three starts, showing good ability but also quirks; now gets cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (2.75/1 +39%) Paradise Row |
2.75/1(+39%) | (7) Paradise Row 2.75/1, 40/1, fourth of 11 in novice at Wolverhampton (8.6f) on debut 19 days ago. Should have more to offer. Good late headway for 4th on debut 19 days ago (8.5f, AW); open to considerable progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5.5/1 -22%) Owners Dream |
5.5/1(-22%) | (4) Owners Dream 5.5/1, Stepped up on debut when second of 6 in novice at Thirsk (1m, heavy) 11 days ago, keeping on not knocked about. Should progress again. Respected. Second run better than his debut and there's more to come; such progress is needed though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (5/1 +44%) Mount King |
5/1(+44%) | (3) Mount King 5/1, Fair maiden. Second on Beverley reappearance. Not in quite the same form when fourth of 7 at Ayr (1m, good) 14 days ago. Chance on his best form but he's not progressing and needs to find extra. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (7.5/1 +53%) Duke Of Wybourne |
7.5/1(+53%) | (5) Duke Of Wybourne 7.5/1, Fair gelding. Remains a maiden after 7 Flat runs. 25/1, bit below form fifth of 9 in handicap at Beverley 33 days ago, unsuited by step up in trip. Second of five at Newcastle last month but less good at Beverley since; others appeal more. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Milteye tries cheekpieces, which may bring about some improvement, but he hasn't looked the most straightforward and there is no guarantee the headgear will help. He may still get involved where it matters, but preference is for OWNERS DREAM, all at sea on heavy at Thirsk yet still good enough to come home in second. The better ground may well see him go one better. Paradise Row was left with too much to do when fourth at Wolverhampton and looks an interesting prospect.
If HAT TOSS reproduces the form he showed when narrowly denied in handicap company on his recent yard debut he's the one to beat. Owners Dream caught the eye a bit when second at Thirsk and is feared most ahead of William Knight's Paradise Row.
Hat Toss ran a cracker on his stable debut but the debut effort of PARADISE ROW threatened much better in time.

1st (7) (1.62/1 +46%) Senesi |
1.62/1(+46%) | (7) Senesi 1.62/1, Promising type. 13/2, fourth of 9 in novice event at Kempton (8f), clear of rest. Off 107 days. Makes handicap debut for good yard and likely there's more to come. Turf debut. Promise in three AW novices; looks on handy mark ahead of her handicap debut; interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (8/1 -60%) Alethiometer |
8/1(-60%) | (1) Alethiometer 8/1, Last of 4 in handicap (2/1) at Haydock (7f, good to firm). Off 10 months but yard among the winners. Returns from an absence on a fair mark; stamina still to be proven but yard going well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (11/1 +0%) Violeta |
11/1(+0%) | (5) Violeta 11/1, 7/1, last of 4 in handicap at this C&D (good to soft) 18 days ago. That was a disappointing return to turf. No chance against handicap blot here last time but running well on AW before; unexposed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4.5/1 +40%) Strangerontheshore |
4.5/1(+40%) | (3) Strangerontheshore 4.5/1, Seventh of 11 in handicap (11/1) at Beverley (9.9f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Drop back in trip very much in her favour. Below par over 1m2f last time but the return to 1m will suit and she's on a fair mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (6/1 +14%) My Honey B |
6/1(+14%) | (10) My Honey B 6/1, 9/2, creditable third of 6 in handicap at Hamilton (8.3f, good) 15 days ago. Can make presence felt from easing mark. 1m AW winner at two; promising return over C&D last month; fair effort latest; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (16/1 -45%) Original Thinker |
16/1(-45%) | (8) Original Thinker 16/1, First run since leaving John & Thady Gosden when fifth of 8 in handicap (33/1) at Newcastle (7.1f) 14 days ago. That was a pleasing return to action and she's not yet exposed. Satisfactory stable debut (7f, AW) two weeks ago; needs more for today's new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (66/1 -164%) Daisy Roots |
66/1(-164%) | (11) Daisy Roots 66/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 150/1, third of 9 in minor event at this course (7f, heavy). Off 6 months. Makes handicap debut and lots more needed, even from this modest mark. Seemed to run well here in November but it looks a piece of form to treat with caution. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (8/1 +50%) Beautiful Eyes |
8/1(+50%) | (6) Beautiful Eyes 8/1, Pulled up in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f, 16/1) 27 days ago shaping as though amiss upped markedly in trip. Back in distance. Unplaced in ten starts since winning her first two; stamina not assured; pulled up latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (28/1 -27%) White Umbrella |
28/1(-27%) | (2) White Umbrella 28/1, Eighth of 13 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f, 100/1) 14 days ago. Needs to build on that. Second run for this yard was better than first but she still looks opposable for the win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (14/1 -211%) Dee See Are |
14/1(-211%) | (9) Dee See Are 14/1, Creditable second of 10 in nursery (4/1) at Chelmsford City (8f), no match for winner. Off 6 months. Ended 2yo campaign with two seconds on AW; can prove as effective on turf this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (4) (33/1 -83%) Gentle Ellen |
33/1(-83%) | (4) Gentle Ellen 33/1, Fourth of 7 in handicap at Beverley (7.4f, soft, 8/1) 21 days ago. May have needed that run but she presumably hasn't been easy to train. Didn't have to improve to win a 6f maiden last summer; stamina not assured; opposable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Dee See Are filled the runner-up berth on her final couple of appearances in 2022 and if she is ready to go on her return to action, she could get into contention. However, she might come out second-best again, this time to to SENESI, who has shown plenty of promise in each of her three efforts and should have a lot more to come on her handicap bow. The daughter of Kingman is fancied to defy an opening mark of 68 under Daniel Muscutt. Alethiometer is another to note.
SENESI displayed ability on all 3 of her qualifying runs on the AW and is in excellent hands, so a forward step now handicapping is firmly on the cards. Alethiometer and My Honey B are a couple of potential threats.
This may be dominated by the 3yos and SENESI looks the one to beat having shown clear promise on the AW.

1st (4) (7.5/1 +38%) Zuffolo |
7.5/1(+38%) | (4) Zuffolo 7.5/1, Thirsk winner last spring. 5/1, last of 8 in handicap at Beverley (5f, soft) 21 days ago. Probably needed that but must leave that form well behind. Comeback effort, having been gelded, on soft ground too bad to be true but has it to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (6.5/1 +46%) Let's Go Hugo |
6.5/1(+46%) | (6) Let's Go Hugo 6.5/1, Fourth of 6 in handicap at Newcastle (5f, 12/1) 13 days ago. Much more needed. The handicapper's proving quick to ease off and drying weather will help his cause. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (1.88/1 +32%) Belsito |
1.88/1(+32%) | (3) Belsito 1.88/1, C&D winner on final 2-y-o start. 20/1, bit below form fourth of 10 in handicap at Musselburgh (5f, soft) 22 days ago. Shortlist material back under professional handling. Fluffed the start from a wide stall in better company on comeback; should fare better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (2.75/1 +21%) Exceed |
2.75/1(+21%) | (9) Exceed 2.75/1, 5/2, good second of 9 in handicap at Newcastle (5f) 20 days ago. That was a third runner-up result but he looks pretty straightforward. Two Tapeta near-misses this spring have been boosted subsequently by the winners; claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (4.5/1 +10%) Mistamac |
4.5/1(+10%) | (1) Mistamac 4.5/1, Third of 8 in novice event (16/1) at Newcastle (5f). Off 153 days. Makes handicap debut back on turf and mark looks fair. Looks on a workable mark now handicapping and is one of the more interesting runners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (11/1 +50%) Your Spirit |
11/1(+50%) | (7) Your Spirit 11/1, 40/1 and visored for first time, creditable fifth of 10 in nursery at Southwell (5f). Off 158 days. First run for yard after leaving David O'Meara. Has undergone wind surgery and would want to see some support before considering her. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (50/1 -25%) Strength 'n Honour |
50/1(-25%) | (2) Strength 'n Honour 50/1, First run since leaving Charlie Fellowes when seventh of 8 in handicap (40/1) at Beverley (5f, soft) 21 days ago. Picked up for 19,000gns last backend; needs to improve somewhat on his comeback effort. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Exceed has filled the runner-up spot on each of his last three starts and may do so again, this time behind CINQUE VERDE, who faded into fourth over 6f at Doncaster so this step back in distance could be a positive move. The daughter of Sioux Nation has an eye hood to replace cheekpieces, which could help eke out the improvement needed to record her first career success. Belsito is also of interest as he takes a drop down in grade and goes off 2lb lower than when fourth on his Musselburgh comeback.
BELSITO caught the eye on last month's reappearance and back of the scene of his nursery win with a fully-fledged rider back in the saddle, he makes plenty of appeal. Exceed has been knocking on the door and is feared most, ahead of Mistamac.
C&D winner BELSITO is entitled to have come on for his recent comeback and is preferred to Exceed (second choice).

3/1(+25%) | (2) Remarkable Force 3/1, Looked a useful prospect last spring (scoring twice over this trip) but proved hard to place later that season. However, made the frame in Ayr listed race in September and reappears on a fair mark. Gelded since last seen.
5th (4) (2.75/1 -120%) Dubai Dawn |
2.75/1(-120%) | (4) Dubai Dawn 2.75/1, Won both his starts to date, latest a 3-runner minor event (8/13) at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 37 days ago, easily. Likely more to come on handicap debut.
6th (5) (16/1 +0%) Texas Man |

7th (6) (11/1 -69%) Sacred Jewel |
11/1(-69%) | (6) Sacred Jewel 11/1, Lightly-raced filly who ended 2022 campaign with close second of 15 in handicap (25/1) at York (5f, good) in September. May have been undone by soft ground on return at Musselburgh last month and better expected here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
DUBAI DAWN is unbeaten so far in his short career, with both of his victories coming at Wolverhampton over 6f. James Tate's colt now stakes his claim in a handicap for the first time and has shown plenty of pace so the drop to the minimum won't be an issue. Remarkable Force will find this easier than the Cornwallis he contested at Newmarket on his final juvenile appearance and is well worth a second look, as is Sacred Jewel, who possibly had the ground against her on her Musselburgh return.
The free-going DUBAI DAWN should be suited by the minimum trip and is taken to extend his winning run. Remarkable Force and Sacred Jewel rate the principal dangers.
Dubai Dawn is the sexy runner and he may be thrown in but READY FREDDIE GO can provide him with serious resistance.

Well handicapped from same mark. Clear with the well-backed winner when second last week; same mark; unexposed; big chance. |

MR JETMAN posted an improved bid when a close second at Musselburgh last week and he looks the one to beat now turned out quickly off the same mark. Thornaby Beauty arrives in good heart and could be the chief threat now returned to 7f. Goblet Of Fire appeared too keen when failing to see out a mile at Newcastle earlier in the month and better is expected on this switch to the turf.
A straightforward race to assess from a handicapping perspective with MR JETMAN a fair way ahead of his mark judged on last week's second at Musselburgh (clear of the rest). The return to 7f will suit Thornaby Beauty, while Rubellite has to be better than she has shown so far.
Rubellite is better than we have seen so far but MR JETMAN (nap) is taken to build on last week's promising second at Musselburgh.

GALILAEUS proved a different proposition when gaining a breakthrough success in first-time blinkers at Bath last Wednesday and he should take some stopping, despite being saddled with a 6lb penalty. Edwina Sheeran will need to shrug off the same burden for her triumph over 1m4f at Beverley, but she isn't taken lightly now faced with this stiffer test. Michael's Pledge likely has more to offer in handicaps and completes the shortlist.
GALILAEUS looked a different proposition when opening his account at Bath last week and a 6 lb penalty may not be enough to prevent the follow up. Michael's Pledge and Have You A Minute should also go well.
The better ground and blinkers clearly helped GALILAEUS last week. He can defy a penalty at the main expense of Michael's Pledge.
Ths is the racecard key.
