1st (2) (100/1 -300%) Visibility |
100/1(-300%) | (2) Visibility 100/1, Unreliable type. C&D winner. 5¼ lengths fifth of 8 to Lennon in handicap at this course (8f, good, 25/1) 8 days ago. Back up in trip. Needs a couple of these to falter. Sole turf win was over C&D in June 2022 but he is usually seen over shorter these days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (5/1 -25%) Unplugged |
5/1(-25%) | (1) Unplugged 5/1, Successful twice around this time last year, latterly in this race from a 4 lb lower mark and stepped up markedly on his reappearance effort when second of 12 in handicap at Haydock (11.6f, firm) 24 days ago. Looks competitive on form. Second leg of 2023 double was this race; first leg was at Haydock, where close 2nd latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (3/1 +25%) Life On The Rocks |
3/1(+25%) | (3) Life On The Rocks 3/1, Resurgent having fallen plenty in the weights this year, completing quick-fire hat-trick at Wetherby (10f) last month prior to a good fourth back up in grade in 16-runner York handicap (10.2f) latest. One to consider back down in class. Won three in a row (Redcar, Ayr and Wetherby) before his respectable fourth of 16 at York. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (2/1 -120%) Lennon |
2/1(-120%) | (6) Lennon 2/1, Lightly-raced 3-y-o who has proved a different proposition back from a break/switched to handicaps, off the mark at Bath and stayed on to lead close home over 1m here 8 days ago. Step up to 1¼m looks sure to suit and lots to like in hat-trick bid. Steps up from 1m; has 6lb penalty but good chance to complete a quick hat-trick. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (66/1 -633%) Fiftyshadesaresdev |
66/1(-633%) | (5) Fiftyshadesaresdev 66/1, Remains a maiden after 18 Flat runs. 12/1, creditable fifth of 13 in handicap at Newbury (10f, good to firm) 18 days ago, short of room under 2f out before keeping on. Not taken lightly from this career-low mark. Has another career-low mark and plenty of form that reads well, but his score is 0-21. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (50/1 -355%) Rayena |
50/1(-355%) | (7) Rayena 50/1, 22/1, bounced back to form when second of 10 in amateur riders' handicap at Ripon (12f, good) 11 days ago, every chance from 2f out and keeping on. This rates tougher however dropped back in trip. Surged back to form when Ripon 2nd (1m4f) 11 days ago under Lois Teal; 4lb out of handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (150/1 -355%) Royal Observatory |
150/1(-355%) | (4) Royal Observatory 150/1, Lightly-raced maiden on Flat who proved easy to back and again ran below pick of his form when ninth of 13 in handicap at Newbury (10f, good to firm) 18 days ago. Others make much more appeal. Has not managed better than 5th in eight races and his three handicaps have not gone well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (66/1 -100%) Harlington |
66/1(-100%) | (8) Harlington 66/1, 40/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at Newbury (12f, good to firm) 18 days ago, never involved. Cheekpieces back on but others arrive with much stronger claims. Seven-race maiden; prominent in the betting for his first three handicaps but 40-1 latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LENNON did extremely well to supplement a Bath triumph over a mile here recently. The rise in distance looks likely to unlock some more improvement from George Boughey's inmate and he's taken to defy a 6lb penalty on this quick turnaround. The biggest threat may emerge from Unplugged, who arrives on the back of a close-up second at Haydock, while Life On The Rocks may fare best of the remainder.
LENNON has proved a different proposition back from a break/switched to handicaps, supplementing his Bath success over 1m here 8 days ago. The increase in trip promises to suit George Boughey's charge and he can complete the hat-trick with the prospect of more to come. Life On The Rocks and last year's winner Unplugged are others fancied to figure.
George Boughey's LENNON has seriously raised his game with the transition to handicapping and looks set for his third win in a row.

1st (1) (4/1 +27%) Cavalier Approach |
4/1(+27%) | (1) Cavalier Approach 4/1, 3-time winner at 5/6f last season who did too much too soon in first-time blinkers (retained here) when fifth of 10 in handicap (8/1) at Ayr (6f, good to firm) 9 days ago. However, his mark is easing all the time and he's not discounted. Front-runner who's drawn to attack under Rossa Ryan and looks to have plenty in his favour. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (15/2 -67%) Glory Hyde |
15/2(-67%) | (8) Glory Hyde 15/2, Not seen to best effect on penultimate start at Redcar (5f) and stepped up on previous efforts when winning 19-runner handicap at Thirsk (5f) 15 days ago, staying on to lead close home. That may not prove her limit now she's off the mark. Better since returned to turf and today's stiffer 5f should suit; on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (22/1 -83%) Protest Rally |
22/1(-83%) | (11) Protest Rally 22/1, Latest win at Musselburgh in June. Fourth of 7 in handicap at Chepstow (5.1f, good to firm, 6/5) 7 days ago, not clear run 1f out and keeping on. Held a couple of times off his revised mark since his Musselburgh win; stall 11 tough. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (66/1 -725%) Let's Go Hugo |
66/1(-725%) | (2) Let's Go Hugo 66/1, Latest win at Newcastle (5f) in April. 10/1, respectable fourth of 9 in handicap at Catterick (6f, good to firm) 23 days ago, keeping on until last ½f. Return to 5f rates a likely plus here and he's not out of things. Has continued in form since his Tapeta win off 3lb lower; player if getting some luck. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (16/1 -60%) Gis A Sub |
16/1(-60%) | (7) Gis A Sub 16/1, Sole success from 23 starts came here as a juvenile in 2021 for Kevin Ryan. Fallen long way in weights and shaped better than the bare result when sixth of 10 in handicap at Ripon (5f) 26 days ago, coming from a long way back. Not one to give up on. Cheekpieces back on. Long time since he finished placed and he never looked like justifying support last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (28/1 -460%) Sound Reason |
28/1(-460%) | (3) Sound Reason 28/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2023. Good fourth of 9 in handicap at Hamilton (5f, good to firm, 7/2) 19 days ago. Refitting of blinkers may put an extra edge on him and he comes here operating 8 lb below last winning mark. Ideally suited by a stiff 5f and has to enter calculations after a solid effort last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (50/1 -257%) Secret Command |
50/1(-257%) | (9) Secret Command 50/1, Improved performer this year, confirming reappearance promise when doubling career tally at Catterick (5f) prior to a respectable 1¼ lengths fifth of 19 to Glory Hyde in handicap at Thirsk (5f, good, 10/1) 15 days ago. Closely matched with Glory Hyde on latest Thirsk running (5lb better off); one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (80/1 -1233%) Havagomecca |
80/1(-1233%) | (6) Havagomecca 80/1, Eleven runs since last win in 2023. Creditable 1½ lengths second of 8 to Protest Rally in handicap (9/4) at Musselburgh (5f, good to firm) 18 days ago, no extra final 50 yds. Another who is lurking on a handy mark but her draw in 10 makes things tricky. Has regressed in the past year but found her level again now; is one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (33/1 -500%) Mereside Angel |
33/1(-500%) | (4) Mereside Angel 33/1, Dual 5f winner who comes here on a losing run but attracted support and ran best race of the present campaign when third of 9 in handicap at Catterick (5f, good to soft, 5/1) 13 days ago, caught further back than the pair who beat him. One to bear in mind. Well handicapped and back in form (race didn't pan out his way last time); should go well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (100/1 -300%) Mr Stanley |
100/1(-300%) | (12) Mr Stanley 100/1, Remains a maiden after 17 Flat runs. Last of 9 in handicap at Southwell (7.1f, 5/1) in February, beaten over 1f out. Subsequent break needs to have had positive effect. Nothing from this yard can be discounted currently but he isn't obviously fancied. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (28/1 -12%) Never This Way |
28/1(-12%) | (10) Never This Way 28/1, Ninth of 10 in handicap at Redcar (5f, good to firm, 12/1) 10 days ago, held up and never involved. Eyeshields on 1st time but likely best watched until showing more. Ex-William Haggas maiden who's regressed this year; new headgear needs to work. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (66/1 -500%) Astapor |
66/1(-500%) | (5) Astapor 66/1, Had a productive 2023 campaign, winning 4 times (including over C&D) and left a very low-key reappearance effort in his wake when winning 8-runner Hamilton handicap (5f) in May. Struggled in class 4 company at Haydock latest but this drop back down in class rates a plus. At his best this time last year but stall 12 is as bad as it gets for a front-runner. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Havagomecca posted her best performance of 2024 when finishing second at Musselburgh last time out and Michael Dods' mare must enter the reckoning off an unchanged mark. However, GLORY HYDE arrives on the back of a breakthrough victory in a 19-runner affair at Thirsk and the daughter of Cotai Glory appears to have been let in lightly racing off just 4lb higher. Mereside Angel and Sound Reason are also noted.
GIS A SUB's losing run tempers enthusiasm but he arrives having shaped better than the bare result when sixth at Ripon 26 days ago, coming from a long way and ending up widest of all. Lurking on a dangerous mark, he could be worth chancing to end the drought. Thirsk scorer Glory Hyde, Cavalier Approach and Secret Command are others to consider in a competitive contest.
This can go to SOUND REASON, who's on a career-low mark after a solid effort last time. The well-treated Havagomecca is next best.

1st (6) (6/1 -33%) Unspoken Love |
6/1(-33%) | (6) Unspoken Love 6/1, Soldier's Call filly who was placed first 2 starts in maidens and was forced to work hard when opening her account in 5-runner Musselburgh seller (5f) 18 days ago. However, she's not ruled out back in this stronger company. Bang there on all three starts; won by a neck in seller latest and bought in for £22,000. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (12/1 -167%) Sunshine Soul |
12/1(-167%) | (5) Sunshine Soul 12/1, Mehmas filly who impressed with the way she travelled when second behind subsequent Queen Mary winner Leovanni in maiden at Nottingham (5f) on debut last month. Ran no sort of race when last of 7 at York 17 days ago but no surprise to see her get back on track. Debut 2nd; flopped at York nine days later but perhaps good to soft ground was to blame. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (16/1 -146%) Guns Firing |
16/1(-146%) | (2) Guns Firing 16/1, Foaled March 23. 180,000 gns yearling, New Bay filly. Sister to smart winner up to 7f Jumby and half-sister to several winners, including 6f-1m winner Conflict. Dam 2-y-o 6f winner. Makes plenty of appeal on paper and she's one to note in the betting for yard who landed this race 12 months ago. 180,000gns yearling; sister to 6f-7f winner Jumby (RPR 116), half-sister to four winners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (9/1 -800%) Ardeur |
9/1(-800%) | (1) Ardeur 9/1, Promising daughter of Kameko who had clearly derived plenty from her debut effort when readily landing 6-runner C&D maiden 3 weeks ago, making all. Sound claims under a penalty with the prospect of more to come. Promising at York and no problems when long odds-on in a six-runner maiden over C&D (good). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (66/1 -780%) She Went Whoosh |
66/1(-780%) | (4) She Went Whoosh 66/1, Foaled February 13. 82,000 gns 2-y-o, Profitable filly. Produced a promising first effort when second of 7 in maiden at Ripon (5f, good) on debut 12 days ago, running on without being knocked about. Should progress. 5-1, slow-starting second of seven in maiden at Ripon (5f, soft) 12 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (100/1 -300%) Indy's Angel |
100/1(-300%) | (3) Indy's Angel 100/1, Foaled March 2. Harry Angel filly. Half-sister to 3 winners, including winner up to 6f Cool Spirit and winner up to 7f Fircombe Hall. Likely best watched on debut. Bred for speed but needs to be good to win this on debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
ARDEUR was quite taking when making all to open her account over C&D last month and she rates as the one to beat. The Kameko filly had that contest sewn up some way out and she can repel fellow last-time-out winner Unspoken Love. Karl Burke's filly displayed a willing attitude to score at Musselburgh, which should stand her in good stead going forward. York disappointment Sunshine Soul could also prove a threat now returned to quicker ground conditions.
ARDEUR had clearly derived plenty from her promising debut effort when running out a ready winner of a C&D maiden 3 weeks ago and Ralp Beckett's filly may well be up to conceding weight all round and coming out on top again. Sunshine Soul ran no sort of race at York on her latest outing but is a clear threat on her debut form. Musselburgh-scorer Unspoken Love can also figure back up in class.
Improvement from SHE WENT WHOOSH may win her this race following her debut second at Ripon.

1st (5) (28/1 -250%) Magnum Opus |
28/1(-250%) | (5) Magnum Opus 28/1, Improved with each of his 3 runs at 2 yrs, culminating in a fairly decisive success at Chelmsford (1m) in November. Gelded/fitted with a visor (discarded here), proved too keen on return/handicap debut at Sandown in April but he's not one to write off. Pulled hard on return; yard 7-19 here and be interesting to see how he goes in the market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (33/1 -175%) Tele Red |
33/1(-175%) | (3) Tele Red 33/1, Course winner who bagged a third victory of 2023 at Ayr (1m, soft) in October. Not in same form when fifth of 12 in handicap (18/1) at Newcastle (1m) on final outing in November and this first start for 7 months may well bring him on. Resumes from eight months off on a career-high mark at the age of seven; bit on his plate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (100/1 -614%) Bennetot |
100/1(-614%) | (1) Bennetot 100/1, Useful performer in France but well below best in couple of starts upon joining present stable last term and he's finished nearer last than first in a couple of starts upon returning to action this spring. Mark continues to ease but he's a good bit to prove at present. Down in trip. Handicapper easing off quickly but would want to see some support before considering him. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (33/1 -175%) On The River |
33/1(-175%) | (2) On The River 33/1, Dual C&D winner who resumed winning ways here in April. Hasn't figured in a couple of starts from his inflated mark at Nottingham/Doncaster more recently but return to this venue rates a plus, though easier ground would suit ideally. Return here should help but he could use more than the odd shower; high in the weights too. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (66/1 -1550%) Aviemore |
66/1(-1550%) | (8) Aviemore 66/1, Son of Kodiac who has displayed fairly useful form in finishing runner-up on 2 of his 3 starts in novice/maiden company at up to 9f in recent months. No reason why he won't make his mark now handicapping and he's respected. Two seconds on soft ground round Carlisle; will have to improve off this opening mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (100/1 -900%) Freedom Day |
100/1(-900%) | (4) Freedom Day 100/1, Won a Redcar novice (1m) on final start for John and Thady Gosden last spring. Changed hands for 40,000 gns and exploits proved somewhat mixed in handful of starts thereafter last term. Off 9 months ahead of this but it remains relatively early days with him. Hood on 1st time. Goes in first-time headgear back from nine months off and is ultimately hard to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (25/1 -456%) Savvy Exchange |
25/1(-456%) | (7) Savvy Exchange 25/1, Confirmed the promise of his debut run when winning 3-runner C&D maiden on seasonal bow in May. Similar form under a penalty when fifth of 10 in minor event at Windsor (8.1f) 21 days ago and switch to handicaps rates a plus. Found it too much under a penalty in novice company latest; needs more now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (16/1 -167%) Colorada Dancer |
16/1(-167%) | (9) Colorada Dancer 16/1, York maiden winner (7.9f) in October who stepped up a little on his reappearance run without being seen to best effect when sixth of 11 in handicap at Chester (7.6f, good, 9/2) 17 days ago, no room 2f out. Not one to write off. Offered more at Chester last time (hit traffic) and is 2lb lower, so needs considering. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (40/1 -1500%) Old Cock |
40/1(-1500%) | (6) Old Cock 40/1, Confirmed debut promise switched to turf when won 5-runner maiden (1/4) at Ayr (8f, good to soft) in April and took another marked step forward to follow up on handicap debut at Haydock (10.2f) 24 days ago, edging out a fellow improver. Big player with prospect of more to come. Return to 1m perhaps not optimal but he remains open to further improvement upped 6lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
OLD COCK has had an excellent start to his career and he showed more than enough pace when scoring over 1m2f last time out at Haydock to suggest that he can handle the drop back to a mile on this occasion. Runner-up on his previous two starts at Carlisle, Aviemore must be of interest on his handicap debut, while Savvy Exchange has strong claims on his C&D success, rather than his subsequent Windsor defeat.
Having landed an Ayr maiden on his reappearance, OLD COCK found further progress to edge out another improving sort over this sort of trip at Haydock 24 days ago and he looks to hold serious claims again in his hat-trick bid. Handicap-debutants Aviemore and Savvy Exchange are others fancied to figure.
This can go to OLD COCK, who can defy a 6lb rise at the main expense of Colorada Dancer, who didn't get the breaks at Chester.

Spear Fir |
(6) (14/1 -17%)14/1(-17%) | (6) Spear Fir 14/1, Lightly-raced filly who finished runner-up on 3 occasions during 2022. Seen only once last season, seventh of 12 in handicap at Doncaster (6f, soft) 14 months ago. Market should prove a useful guide on this belated return. Maiden who hasn't been seen since well held on soft last spring; entitled to need this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (7/2 -5%) Late Arrival |
7/2(-5%) | (1) Late Arrival 7/2, C&D winner who resumed winning ways at Southwell (6f) in March. Good placed efforts on 2 of his 3 starts since, second of 13 in handicap (12/1) at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) 24 days ago. On a workable mark and he's one to consider. Came back to form last time and holds leading claims once more back over a stiffer 6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (5/2 +77%) Variety Island |
5/2(+77%) | (9) Variety Island 5/2, Ended long losing run at Catterick (7f) in April. Merely ticked over in handful of starts subsequently, respectable fourth of 18 in minor event (9/1) at Thirsk (6f, good to firm) 7 days ago. Another holding each-way claims. Better last week but that was only a 0-50 and he was a good way off the front pair. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (17/2 -55%) Dicko The Legend |
17/2(-55%) | (3) Dicko The Legend 17/2, Dual AW winner for Roger Ingram last year who stepped up on his yard debut effort when third of 9 in handicap at Hamilton (5f, good to firm, 10/1) 19 days ago, staying on final 1f. This mark not beyond him on that evidence. Step back up to 6f should work in his favour and he goes on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (9/1 -38%) Macarone |
9/1(-38%) | (5) Macarone 9/1, Won twice on turf/AW last season and returned to action with a respectable third in an 8-runner C&D handicap in April. Some way below form when thirteenth of 19 in handicap at Thirsk (5f, good) 15 days ago but he's not one to be writing off. Well held at Thirsk last time and the outside stall is a concern given he often pulls hard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (17/2 +29%) Motagally |
17/2(+29%) | (4) Motagally 17/2, Unreliable type. Twenty two runs since last win in 2020. Probably needed the run after 6 months off when seventh of 11 in handicap at Leicester (6f, good) 16 days ago, no extra final 1f. Still, it's hard to know which way he'll go from that effort and others preferred. Come around a stone down the weights in the past year; fair comeback recently. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (100/1 -1150%) Rain Cap |
100/1(-1150%) | (7) Rain Cap 100/1, Respectable fifth of 9 in handicap at Carlisle (5.8f, soft, 16/1) 14 days ago, seeming to find the test inadequate. Each-way possibilities from this mark. High summer has always been his time and arrives in fair form but is high in the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (28/1 -741%) Daytona Lady |
28/1(-741%) | (2) Daytona Lady 28/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, career best when winning 9-runner handicap at Wetherby (5.5f, good to soft, 17/2) 20 days ago, staying on to lead last ½f and always holding on. 5 lb rise shouldn't prevent another good showing in this groove. Showed she can do it on turf last time; a 5lb rise leaves little room for manoeuvre. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (40/1 -515%) Crack The Kode |
40/1(-515%) | (8) Crack The Kode 40/1, 12/1, respectable sixth of 14 in handicap at Catterick (5f, good to firm) 23 days ago, headway when short of room final 1f. Given a chance by the assessor. Better without having much luck since the blinkers went on; down another 3lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Although winless on turf since July 2022, LATE ARRIVAL shaped with plenty of encouragement when second at Thirsk last time out and this appeal as an ideal opportunity. The seven-year-old has operated off higher marks in the past and he is preferred to Wetherby scorer Daytona Lady and Dicko The Legend, who bounced back to form with a strong placed effort at Hamilton last month.
C&D winner LATE ARRIVAL was quickly back to form when runner-up over this trip at Thirsk 24 days ago and he looks to hold sound claims of going one place better from this sort of mark. Wetherby-scorer Daytona Lady and Dicko The Legend are others to consider. Macarone is another not to give up on if dispelling his latest effort.
Successful in this race two years ago, everything looks in place for LATE ARRIVAL (nap). Dicko The Legend is second choice.

7/1(-27%) | (7) Coloane 7/1, Remains a maiden after 18 starts. Raced wide when sixth of 7 in handicap (2/1) at Catterick (7f, soft) 39 days ago. Hood back on. Dangerously well handicapped. 18-race maiden; 14lb lower than when twice narrowly denied on AW last July. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Denied by the narrowest of margins at Thirsk last week, DOOMSDAY is able to compete off the same mark and he may be able to gain compensation. With conditions in his favour again, the five-year-old could have too much for the in-form True Nation, as well as Indication Rocket, who might be suited by the cut back in trip. Others to note include Footonthegas, Mr Heinz and Premiership.
COLOANE had a possible excuse when a beaten favourite at Catterick last time and might be worth one more chance as she continues to look well treated on the pick of last year's form. Richard Fahey's True Nation arrives in form and is second choice ahead of last Sunday's course runner-up Indication Rocket.
Most claims do not look at all bright at the moment. The clear exceptions are TRUE NATION, Indication Rocket and Doomsday.
Ths is the racecard key.
