1st (7) (7/2 +0%) Mongibello |
7/2(+0%) | (7) Mongibello 7/2, Got off the mark in Down Royal bumper in December but below that level in better company at Leopardstown and Aintree since. Shouldn't be written off now going hurdling. Smart bumper form last season; makes hurdle debut at a realistic level; yard runs three. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/8 -10%) Clodders Dream |
11/8(-10%) | (1) Clodders Dream 11/8, Fairly useful hurdler. Winner at Clonmel in May and backed it up with a good third of 6 in novice at Kilbeggan (25.2f, good) 7 days ago. Expected to be bang there for yard which has taken the past two runnings. Clonmel win (2m3f) last month represented improvement; fair third last week; big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (10/1 -186%) Bishop Hill |
10/1(-186%) | (5) Bishop Hill 10/1, Fair hurdler who wasn't disgraced when third of 10 in C&D novice 25 days ago. Hood goes on now and holds good form claims. Placed on her last three starts but raced too freely here last time; now tried in a hood. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (100/1 -733%) Buy Some Time |
100/1(-733%) | (2) Buy Some Time 100/1, Points winner who had cheekpieces on when good second of 9 in hunter chase at Cartmel (21.2f, good to soft) on NH debut 13 days ago. Much respected now going hurdling. Two point wins this spring; second in modest hunter chase on rules/stable debut last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (125/1 -89%) The Jeweller's Pet |
125/1(-89%) | (4) The Jeweller's Pet 125/1, 40/1, sixth of 7 in novice hurdle here (16.2f, good to soft) on NH debut 24 days ago. Up in trip with more required. Maiden pointer; well-beaten 40-1 shot here (2m) on last month's rules debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (100/1 -614%) Highland Fashion |
100/1(-614%) | (3) Highland Fashion 100/1, Easily best of his three runs when second of 10 in bumper (50/1) at Kelso (16.2f, good) 32 days ago. Makes hurdles debut up in trip and not dismissed. Improved with each of his bumper runs; bred to do better but has useful standard to aim at. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (200/1 -100%) Tread Softly Now |
200/1(-100%) | (8) Tread Softly Now 200/1, Lightly-raced maiden who came in only seventh of 10 in novice over C&D on hurdles bow 25 days ago. Needs a big step forward. Huge prices and little promise in her four starts; no appeal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (100/1 -614%) Bleu Lagune |
100/1(-614%) | (9) Bleu Lagune 100/1, 13/2, debut eighth of 10 in novice hurdle over C&D 25 days ago. Lots more is needed. Only 13-2 for her debut here last month but finished out the back; hard to recommend. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (6) (100/1 -1329%) Kimjoy |
100/1(-1329%) | (6) Kimjoy 100/1, 20/1, running well (still every chance) when fell last in novice hurdle at Bellewstown (20.5f, good to soft) 46 days ago. One for the shortlist. Looked set to win at Bellewstown in April when crashing down at the last; can do better. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CLODDERS DREAM won in a pleasing manner over 2m3f at Clonmel on his penultimate start and, far from disgraced when third under a penalty over 3m1f at Kilbeggan last time, there could be plenty more to come from this improving six-year-old back at this sort of trip. Bishop Hill has shown a liking for this venue and, with a hood added, she can at least match the two placed efforts she has posted over this C&D on her last two starts. Hurdles debutant Highland Fashion completes the shortlist.
Gordon Elliott has bagged the last two runnings of this maiden and his CLODDERS DREAM holds the edge on form so is fancied to quickly resume winning ways. Bishop Hill rates much the biggest threat, especially if the fitting of a hood ekes out some improvement. Kimjoy and Buy Some Time appeal as the pick of the rest for minor honours.
The Crawford-trained pair Kimjoy and MONGIBELLO appeal most. The selection can boast strong form in bumpers.

1st (2) (11/4 +0%) Marty Mcfly |
11/4(+0%) | (2) Marty Mcfly 11/4, A fair maiden for R. Mike Smith and posted a solid fourth for his new handler in handicap at Bangor (19.6f, good) 22 days ago. One to consider if builidng on that. Straight back to form when fourth of ten at Bangor (2m3f, good; favourite) for new stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (33/1 -136%) One Step Up |
33/1(-136%) | (5) One Step Up 33/1, Failed to make the frame for Nicky Richards and pulled up in handicap here (20.2f, soft) for his new stable in April. Needs to get back on track. Well beaten in his three handicaps for Nicky Richards and tailed off on debut for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (4/1 +20%) Dapper Gent |
4/1(+20%) | (6) Dapper Gent 4/1, Is knocking on the door, excellent second of 9 in novice hurdle at Bangor (16.7f, good) 22 days ago. Looks to have got in lightly for his handicap bow. Big shout. Second last month in a seller and maiden; competitive mark for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (40/1 -471%) Lemoine |
40/1(-471%) | (1) Lemoine 40/1, Fair maiden hurdler but tried in a hood when only seventh of 8 in novice at Musselburgh (17.4f, heavy) 65 days ago, going in snatches. More required on his handicap debut. In the frame in his three bumpers; hurdle results gone the wrong way; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (80/1 -2186%) Northern Cardinal |
80/1(-2186%) | (4) Northern Cardinal 80/1, Good second of 13 in handicap hurdle over C&D (soft) 45 days ago. Has since had a wind op so can't be taken lightly in bid for a maiden success. Easily his closest finish since debut when 2nd over C&D (soft) in April latest; wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (100/1 -900%) Don't Look Back |
100/1(-900%) | (8) Don't Look Back 100/1, A fair performer on the Flat for Lucinda Russell last year and he has shown similar form to make the frame in this sphere. Faced a stiff task over C&D last time so can't be discounted here. 1-19 on Flat and 0-11 over hurdles; down the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (50/1 -317%) Foxwood |
50/1(-317%) | (9) Foxwood 50/1, Arrives in decent nick without winning, third of 9 in handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (19.8f, soft) 174 days ago. Cheekpieces go on and no forlorn hope after a break. Needs improvement as a hurdler; 174 days off and has first-time headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (16/1 -220%) Heart Above |
16/1(-220%) | (7) Heart Above 16/1, Yet to match his fairly useful bumper form in this sphere, beating only one in handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (16.8f, good) 30 days ago when going in snatches. Hard to warm to. Placed in all bumpers but soundly beaten over hurdles, favourite for handicap debut latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (100/1 -614%) Blue Clover |
100/1(-614%) | (3) Blue Clover 100/1, Had breathing surgery before pulled up on yard debut (formerly with Fergal O'Brien) in novice hurdle at Ayr (16f, soft) 51 days ago. Needs this switch to handicaps to spark improvement. Pulled up on final start for Fergal O'Brien and debut for new yard; makes handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (200/1 -203%) Star Of Markinch |
200/1(-203%) | (10) Star Of Markinch 200/1, Has twice made the frame in points but little impact under Rules and looks set for another struggle from 4 lb out of the handicap. Low-level maiden who has not accomplished much over the last year; 4lb out of the handicap. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
NORTHERN CARDINAL posted his best effort so far when finishing runner-up in a deeper handicap hurdle over this C&D on his most recent start and, having undergone wind surgery since, this could be a good time to catch Lucinda Russell's five-year-old. Dapper Gent has a similar profile from races elsewhere and rates a player from a workable mark. Foxwood and Marty Mcfly are a couple of other likely improvers to consider.
DAPPER GENT looks very much the way to go here given he starts life in handicaps at the top of his game and on a lenient mark. Marty McFly is next on the list on the back of an encouraging debut fourth for Sandy Thomson, with Northern Cardinal also in the mix if building on his C&D second after wind surgery.
Northern Cardinal and Marty McFly are respected but DAPPER GENT is preferred on his handicap debut.

Bix Beiderbecke |
(6) (10/1 +17%)10/1(+17%) | (6) Bix Beiderbecke 10/1, Opened his account at the second time of asking over hurdles in C&D novice 13 months ago but his subsequent handicap efforts have been disappointing. Something to prove at present. C&D winner 13 months ago; handicapper on top since and an easy lead is unlikely here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Thats Jet |
(11) (16/1 -33%)16/1(-33%) | (11) Thats Jet 16/1, Modest on the Flat but has shown more over hurdles, running to a fair level when runner-up in a Killarney maiden in August (final start for Ross O'Sullivan). Hasn't matched that in 4 starts for his current yard, though, including on handicap debut here last time. Not matched Irish form for new yard but may do so now fitted with headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (5) (8/1 -100%) Kinbara Firstdraft |
8/1(-100%) | (5) Kinbara Firstdraft 8/1, Just modest form over hurdles thus far, latest when third of 10 in novice over C&D (good to soft) 24 days ago, but looks the type to do better now sent handicapping. Promising 3rd over C&D last month; moves into handicaps with the potential for more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (12) (25/1 +0%) Darkest Day |
25/1(+0%) | (12) Darkest Day 25/1, Recorded back-to-back wins at Kelso in September but hasn't been in the same form since, albeit he may have needed the outing when well held at Hexham last month. Two Kelso wins last September; well-beaten 50-1 shot on last month's return to action. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/4 +77%) Belle Of Annandale |
11/4(+77%) | (2) Belle Of Annandale 11/4, Won over C&D on debut for this yard last summer and added to that success at Musselburgh in November. However, not been in same form since and is now tried in cheekpieces. Lightly raced C&D winner; down in grade and return to better ground a plus; new headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (10) (9/2 +50%) Malangen |
9/2(+50%) | (10) Malangen 9/2, Returning from 6 months off when creditable fourth of 9 in handicap hurdle (50/1) at Hexham (16.2f, soft) 8 days ago. Goes well here (4-time course winner) and is an interesting contender. Multiple course winner; pleasing return from an absence last week; should run his race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (66/1 -1786%) Muhtaluza |
66/1(-1786%) | (8) Muhtaluza 66/1, No real impact in maiden company but is still low mileage and may do better on switch to handicapping here. Poor form in four maiden hurdles; this is more suitable & the betting should be revealing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (100/1 -614%) Inferno Sacree |
100/1(-614%) | (1) Inferno Sacree 100/1, Enjoyed a most productive spell when winning 5 times from 6 starts in the first half of 2023, including at this C&D. Has found it tougher since, doing too much soon here last time. Well treated if scaling a revival. Handicapper on top in 2024; down in grade today but there are risks involved. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (100/1 -400%) Burgundy Man |
100/1(-400%) | (7) Burgundy Man 100/1, Seven-race maiden over hurdles who hasn't been seen for 3 years and is best watched on debut for new yard. Absent for 1,094 days; reduced mark but risky on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (100/1 -2400%) Kilbrainy |
100/1(-2400%) | (4) Kilbrainy 100/1, Got off the mark in impressive style, after 4 months off, in conditional jockeys' handicap at Kelso (20.9f) in October. Possibly found the race coming too soon at Carlisle 11 days later and returns to action with yard amongst the winners. Easy win at Kelso (2m5f) in October; beaten on heavy 11 days later; off since & 8lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (100/1 -203%) Carrarea |
100/1(-203%) | (3) Carrarea 100/1, Dual bumper winner for Emmet Mullins and again over hurdles at Market Rasen (2m) for Mark Walford early last season. Sold for £2,000 and yet to make an impact in a couple of outings for this yard. Struggled in the mud for new yard but the return to a sound surface could revive fortunes. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (100/1 -900%) Solway Molly |
100/1(-900%) | (13) Solway Molly 100/1, Bumper winner who got off the mark at the ninth attempt in this sphere when making all at Hexham (20.1f) in October. However, not so good on both subsequent outings (lost a shoe on latest) so returns with a bit to prove. In good form last autumn but lost her way and now returns from 200 days off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (100/1 -1233%) Aldbourne |
100/1(-1233%) | (9) Aldbourne 100/1, Fair Flat winner who has been brought along steadily in a trio of starts in this sphere and shaped better than the distance beaten when tenth of 15 in novice at Wetherby (16f, heavy) 73 days ago. Open to improvement on handicap hurdle debut. Two-time Flat winner; yet to shine over hurdles but handicaps provide a better opportunity. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Irish raider Muhtaluza is unexposed and merits consideration for the powerful Gordon Elliott yard, while Malangen and Aldbourne also rate as shortlist material at this level and signals from the betting market should be heeded where those three are concerned. However, handicap debutant KINBARA FIRSTDRAFT offers the most intrigue on these terms and is fancied to build on last month's third-placed finish over C&D from an attractive opening mark. Kilbrainy goes well fresh and is also feared.
MALANGEN has a fine record at this course and arrives on back of an encouraging return to action at Hexham last week. He gets the nod in an open-looking contest. Kilbrainy and Kinbara Firstdraft head the list of dangers.
A trappy race in which BELLE OF ANNANDALE is marginally preferred to Thats Jet.

1st (4) (9/1 -38%) Parisencore |
9/1(-38%) | (4) Parisencore 9/1, Couple of good efforts over fences in the winter and shaped encouragingly under an aggressive ride on return from a 3-month absence when fifth of 10 in handicap chase at Kelso (17.1f, good) 32 days ago. Player. Began chasing career with three good runs (2m-2m1f); tries a new trip today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (13/2 -225%) God's Own Getaway |
13/2(-225%) | (8) God's Own Getaway 13/2, Low-mileage 6-y-o who made a successful chasing debut in handicap at Southwell (20.4f) in April before bumping into another upwardly-mobile sort at Warwick. Regained the winning thread at Market Rasen (19.2f, good) 17 days ago and he's likely to progress again. 2-3 since switched to fences this spring and probably still has potential; shortlisted. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (80/1 -567%) Francky Du Berlais |
80/1(-567%) | (1) Francky Du Berlais 80/1, Placed 3 times last season, including when second in cross-country event at Cheltenham in December, but was well held in the Topham at Aintree when last seen and cheekpieces now go on. Back down to a good mark now but well beaten on both outings this year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (13/2 +28%) Presentandcounting |
13/2(+28%) | (2) Presentandcounting 13/2, Won 2 small-field chases at Ffos Las and Perth in the summer but went off the boil after. Always behind in Grade 2 handicap at Cheltenham last month after 7 months off but entitled to come on for that. Prolific chase winner on good ground; will find this easier than Cheltenham reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (40/1 -233%) Ganapathi |
40/1(-233%) | (7) Ganapathi 40/1, Useful hurdle/chase winner for Willie Mullins but drawn a blank for a couple of yards since coming to Britain, faring no better on his debut for Sandy Thomson at Bangor. Hard to fancy. Regressed last season and made low-key stable debut last month; needs to up his game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (100/1 -1567%) Planned Paradise |
100/1(-1567%) | (9) Planned Paradise 100/1, Sketchily jumper turned in a couple of sour performances after joining this yard but looked far more enthusiastic when runner-up in a 7-runner event at Fakenham (29.1f, good) 33 days ago. Remains on an interest mark dropped significantly back down in trip. Back in form when second in Fakenham marathon last month; this track also suits. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (100/1 -809%) Motown Maggie |
100/1(-809%) | (3) Motown Maggie 100/1, Scored at Navan in March 2023. Looked rusty on return from 13-month absence when down the field at Kilbeggan last month, neither travelling or jumping with much fluency, Will need to come on plenty from that to figure. Dual 2m4f chase winner in 2022-23 season; probably needed last month's return run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (100/1 -2122%) Fix At All |
100/1(-2122%) | (5) Fix At All 100/1, Landed a brace of hunters for Michael Scudamore last spring and built on a promising return to action to land a 9-runner handicap chase at Hereford (20.9f, good, 6/1) 27 days ago. Up 6 lb but should remain competitive. Came good for current stable with clearcut win at Hereford last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (100/1 -614%) Findthetime |
100/1(-614%) | (6) Findthetime 100/1, Landed a pair of small-field handicaps in the winter for Nicky Richards, albeit very fortunate to do so at Newcastle on latter occasion. Below form when fourth of 6 in handicap chase at this C&D (soft) on yard debut 46 days ago and others make greater appeal. Made underwhelming stable debut over C&D in April and is down the pecking order today. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Having produced a taking display when landing the spoils at Hereford last month, Fix At All must enter calculations racing off only a 6lb higher rating. However, the eight-year-old may prove vulnerable to the fast-improving GOD'S OWN GETAWAY. The Dan Skelton-trained gelding is chasing a third victory over fences on just his fourth appearance in this sphere and he's taken to further enhance his tally. Any market support for Irish raider Motown Maggie would be interesting.
GOD'S OWN GETAWAY has made a fine start to his chasing career and Dan Skelton's 6-y-o can gain his third win since switching to the larger obstacles. Parisencore ran well despite being pestered for the lead at Kelso and also makes the shortlist, whilst Fix At All can't be discounted on the back of his Hereford success.
After his good performance at Hereford in May, FIX AT ALL is taken to follow up off a 6lb higher mark.

Ballygrifincottage |
(4) (10/3 +17%)10/3(+17%) | (4) Ballygrifincottage 10/3, Produced his best effort for a while when runner-up in a Sandown handicap in March and was in the mix in the latter stages when seventh of 26 in Scottish Grand National next time. Again ran well when third at Uttoxeter (24f) in May and he can give another good account. May be better suited by slower ground but has posted some good efforts since February. |

Gold Cup Bailly |
(5) (40/1 -233%)40/1(-233%) | (5) Gold Cup Bailly 40/1, Won first 3 starts sent chasing in 2022/23, but well held on final 2 outings that season before a 12-month absence. Reverted to hurdling, unsuited by way race developed when third of 4 in minor event at Down Royal (24f) last month. Cheekpieces now applied back over fences. Back from long absence with two disappointing runs this spring; cheekpieces now added. |

1st (8) (7/2 +46%) Statuario |
7/2(+46%) | (8) Statuario 7/2, Won here on his final 2 starts (both at 20.1f) in 2022 before missing 18 months. With 2 runs behind him following his absence, showed a good attitude when bouncing back to winning ways at this C&D last month. Not discounted at this venue. C&D winner when eased in grade last month (front pair clear); has more on his plate today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 -50%) Hang In There |
6/1(-50%) | (1) Hang In There 6/1, Won 5 times in 2022/23 and proved better than ever when adding to his tally at Stratford and Worcester last season. After 6 months off, good second in the Silver Trophy Chase at Cheltenham (20.6f) in April and he's a major player with that run behind him. Seven-time chase winner; career-best form when second in 2m4f Grade 2 handicap in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (15/8 +58%) Duffle Coat |
15/8(+58%) | (2) Duffle Coat 15/8, Unbeaten as a juvenile hurdler but had been proving expensive to follow since then, including sent chasing last season. However, 14/1, back in handicap company he opened his chase account in emphatic fashion at Ballinrobe (23.4f) 13 days ago. Respected. Ridden clear to win valuable Mayo National at Ballinrobe last month; commands respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4/1 +0%) Karl Philippe |
4/1(+0%) | (3) Karl Philippe 4/1, Useful handicap chaser who has returned to form fitted with a tongue tie, getting back to winning ways at Kempton (24f) last month. Not always the most fluent of jumpers but he can make his presence felt in his current mood. Back on track with two good runs at Kempton this spring, the latter a win; in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (100/1 -1233%) Saint Arvans |
100/1(-1233%) | (7) Saint Arvans 100/1, Successful at this C&D a year ago and has held his form well in the main since. After 8 months off, left behind a rare lesser effort when runner-up at Uttoxeter (24f) 22 days ago. This is tougher but he can give his running once more. In career-best form last spring/summer and ran big race in defeat on recent reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (100/1 -733%) Definite Plan |
100/1(-733%) | (6) Definite Plan 100/1, Was in decent heart early last season, including when runner-up in this same race. However, pulled up at Fairyhouse in December and, after a further 6 months off, unseated rider at the first at Ballinrobe 13 days ago. Others more persuasive. Not getting any younger but gave good account when second in this race last year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
HANG IN THERE returned to action with a very respectable second in the Grade 2 Silver Trophy at Cheltenham in April. A 1lb drop in the ratings looks lenient for Emma Lavelle's charge and he should take plenty of beating if handling this step up in distance. Duffle Coat is also sure to prove popular after his ready triumph in the Mayo National at Ballinrobe and he is feared most, ahead of fellow last-time-out winner Karl Philippe.
HANG IN THERE picked up where he left off when runner-up in a Grade 2 handicap at Cheltenham in April, despite looking a little rusty after 6 months off, so he can build on that effort to resume winning ways. The main danger could be Duffle Coat, who recorded a first win over fences in good style on his latest outing, with Karl Philippe also considered.
He's not the only one arriving in form but DUFFLE COAT (nap) looked in particularly good nick when landing a valuable prize last month.

(6) (15/2 -36%)15/2(-36%) | (6) No Regrets 15/2, Won pair of 3m handicap chases in first half of 2023 and left low-key reappearance effort well behind when adding to his tally in a first-time visor at Kelso (23.4f, good) last month, though needed a shade of fortune to seal it. 4 lb higher mark could prove problematic. Returned to form with hard-fought win in first-time visor last month; up 4lb. |

1st (11) (9/1 +36%) Cardamon Hill |
9/1(+36%) | (11) Cardamon Hill 9/1, Yet to score over fences and has been out of form for a while despite coming in for support at Cartmel 2 weeks ago. Headgear back on. Regressive 7yo who was soundly beaten when back over fences at Cartmel last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (4/1 +33%) Everyday Champagne |
4/1(+33%) | (10) Everyday Champagne 4/1, First run since leaving Nicky Richards when bagging 12-runner handicap chase at Ayr (20.5f, good) in November. Got back on track under a positive ride returned to less testing ground when going down narrowly at Kelso (23.4f, good) last month and not dismissed from the same mark. Ran game race from the front before succumbing to No Regrets at Kelso last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/1 -122%) Cap Du Nord |
10/1(-122%) | (4) Cap Du Nord 10/1, Grand servant to connections and took advantage of reduced mark when narrow winner at Plumpton in March. Player up 4 lb. Not the force of old but battled on well to snatch a good prize at Plumpton in March. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (80/1 -1131%) Half Shot |
80/1(-1131%) | (2) Half Shot 80/1, Produced a career best when doubling his chase tally at Musselburgh in November and best effort since when an eye-catching fourth at Ayr (20.5f) in the spring. Down the field back over hurdles since but of interest back over fences off a winning mark. Creditable fourth in good-quality chase in April and now back on last winning mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (100/1 -900%) Universal Folly |
100/1(-900%) | (1) Universal Folly 100/1, Completed a hat-trick over fences at Hexham in October and continued in good heart when runner-up at Aintree (25f) and Carlisle (20f). However, beaten long before the extra distance might have been an issue at Musselburgh and showed nothing starting out for this yard here 6 weeks ago. Triple chase winner in 2023 but looked out of sorts over C&D on stable debut in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (100/1 -733%) Brandy Mcqueen |
100/1(-733%) | (7) Brandy Mcqueen 100/1, Progressive staying hurdler in 2022/23 who made a winning start over fences off 6 lb higher at Kelso in October. Didn't go on from that effort but at least shaped as if back in some sort of form returned to hurdles in recent months. Tongue strap on for 1st time. Ran well for a long way in two spring hurdle races but finished weakly both times. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (100/1 -1233%) Wasdell Dundalk |
100/1(-1233%) | (5) Wasdell Dundalk 100/1, Took advantage of reduced mark when completing a C&D hat-trick in August/September. Runner-up at Carlisle next 2 outings, but well held at Haydock when last seen in November. May need this. Triple C&D winner last summer/autumn but has fitness to prove after 197-day absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (100/1 -1011%) Giovanni Change |
100/1(-1011%) | (3) Giovanni Change 100/1, Prone to mistakes over hurdles but is a 4-timer winner (all at Market Rasen). Runner-up 2 of his 3 starts over fences, including at Market Rasen on Boxing Day. Respectable third after 5 months off back over hurdles there last month. Four-time hurdle winner; ran quite well over fences in December but others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (100/1 -1011%) General Probus |
100/1(-1011%) | (9) General Probus 100/1, Showed ability in 3 starts for Olly Murphy in 2020 and clear of the rest when a good second upped to 24.4f back from a lengthy absence for Keiran Burke at Ascot in November 2022. Off since and has changed yards again. Makes chase debut. Absent since autumn 2022 but makes stable/chase debut from tempting mark; market can guide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (100/1 -733%) Victory Echo |
100/1(-733%) | (8) Victory Echo 100/1, Dual C&D winner last spring but shaped as if amiss back over hurdles after 8 months off when last seen in February. Won three times last spring (twice over C&D) but off since poor hurdle run in February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (100/1 -614%) Toucan Sam |
100/1(-614%) | (12) Toucan Sam 100/1, Modest maiden chaser who was placed on all 3 of his starts last month. Opposable at this level. Ran well when third at Kelso a fortnight ago but this race is much more competitive. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A first-time visor proved just the tonic for last month's Kelso scorer NO REGRETS and he could be capable of following up. A 4lb rise is more than fair for Nicky Richards' inmate and he shades the verdict over Giovanni Change, who is unexposed in this sphere and his reappearance third over hurdles at Market Rasen should have put him spot-on. Cap Du Nord and Everyday Champagne are also noted.
HALF SHOT underperformed returned to hurdling last time but he had caught the eye in a better chase than this at Ayr the time before so is worth another chance back in this sphere. Cap du Nord took advantage of his reduced mark at Plumpton in March and remains fairly treated up 4 lb, while Everyday Champagne went close off this mark at Kelso last month.
After running well in a much stronger race than this on his latest chasing start, HALF SHOT is now back on his last winning mark.

1st (2) (5/4 +34%) Fever Dream |
5/4(+34%) | (2) Fever Dream 5/4, Improved efforts over hurdles since handicapping, finishing second of 6 at Fakenham (2½m, good to soft) in a first-time tongue tie in March. Leading claims now stepping up to 3m back from a short break. 2nd of 6 at Fakenham (2m4f, good; 8-11, first tongue-tie) in March in his second handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (16/1 +36%) Bolt Man |
16/1(+36%) | (10) Bolt Man 16/1, Maiden who has offered little in 2 outings since returning from a 14-month absence. Has shown a glimmer of ability but not much in his two runs after a 425-day absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (100/1 -525%) Reagrove Lord |
100/1(-525%) | (7) Reagrove Lord 100/1, Placed in points in Ireland. Reached the frame in his first 2 handicap hurdles but his 2 efforts at Hexham this spring have been disappointing. Bounce back needed. 0-4 in points and 0-7 under rules, with big backward steps in his last two handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (100/1 -900%) Sputnik |
100/1(-900%) | (6) Sputnik 100/1, Placed 5 times since his last win but ran poorly back from a break here (fences) last month. Can only watch after that. Ran creditably once in last four starts; return to good ground could be a notable positive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (80/1 -567%) Haveyougotmymoney |
80/1(-567%) | (1) Haveyougotmymoney 80/1, Gained reward for several good efforts in defeat when landing Southwell handicap hurdle (3m) last autumn. Runner-up on next 2 starts but has lost his form since, pulling up on Hexham chase debut 19 days ago. Disappointing favourite in December and out of form when back for two races last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (33/1 -843%) Dequall |
33/1(-843%) | (8) Dequall 33/1, It's been a while since he last hit the target but he couldn't have gone much closer at Hexham (3m, good to soft) 19 days ago, edged out on the line. Can race lazily but he'll figure prominently if in the same form as last time. No win since March 2021 but mighty close at Hexham (2m7f, good) off career-low mark latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (100/1 -300%) Mrindependant |
100/1(-300%) | (9) Mrindependant 100/1, Little sign of ability. After nearly a year off, failed to beat a rival in two runs last October when last seen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (100/1 -300%) Midnight Alnwicky |
100/1(-300%) | (11) Midnight Alnwicky 100/1, Seemed to show her first sign of a little ability when a remote sixth in a 2½m course maiden hurdle last month and low-grade handicaps provide her with a more realistic chance. Needs better on this handicap debut, with another step up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (3) (80/1 -1500%) Euchan Falls |
80/1(-1500%) | (3) Euchan Falls 80/1, Winless since last spring but has reacted well to a visor when second in course hurdle/chase on last 2 outings. Each-way claims again. 2nd with visor enlisted on last two outings (hurdle/chase); stays 3m and firmly in the mix. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (100/1 -1900%) Warriors Story |
100/1(-1900%) | (4) Warriors Story 100/1, Hurdles winner who was third over fences at Hexham last month but pulled up back there 17 days later. Reverts to hurdles in a bid to bounce straight back to form. His creditable runs have become too occasional but penultimate start was one of them. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (100/1 -525%) The Blame Game |
100/1(-525%) | (5) The Blame Game 100/1, All 3 career victories gained at Sedgefield, the latest in February 2023. Pulled up both starts last season but merely passed beaten rivals when seventh of 16 over 21f at Kelso last month. Stays well and latest start was an upturn but he need to build substantially on that. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
DEQUALL was denied by a short head at Hexham last month and he only has a 2lb higher rating to contend with. Stuart Coltherd's eight-year-old remains on a dangerous mark and can get his head back in front. The main threat might be Euchan Falls, who filled the runner-up berth over 2m4f here before another solid second over fences, also at this venue. Of the remainder, Fever Dream makes the most appeal.
FEVER DREAM rather stands out as an unexposed sort in this line-up and can come good now stepping up to 3m for the first time. Recent Hexham runner-up Dequall is second choice ahead of Euchan Falls.
Dequall and Euchan Falls had a major say in proceedings last time out but they look vulnerable against FEVER DREAM.

Watchoutitscookie |
(9) (7/2 +56%)7/2(+56%) | (9) Watchoutitscookie 7/2, Second off 5 lb higher in a 25f Huntingdon handicap hurdle in February. Left the impression he should have finished closer (conceded first run) when third over fences here last month. Interesting. Third of eight over C&D on latest outing, confirming he has an each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Bullion Boss |
(7) (11/1 +31%)11/1(+31%) | (7) Bullion Boss 11/1, Won over 3m at Musselburgh in January 2021 but hasn't shown much in 3 outings since returning from a long absence this spring. Needs a first-time visor to make a difference. Two-year absence before his three runs this spring, in which he did not accomplish much. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (4) (16/1 -14%) Dalileo |
16/1(-14%) | (4) Dalileo 16/1, Has a 1-32 record but the win did come here. Below-form fourth of 7 in handicap hurdle at Catterick (25f, good to soft) when last seen in November. 20-1 when pulled up in this last year after a layoff; same scenario suggests itself today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (18/1 -13%) Joanna I'm Fine |
18/1(-13%) | (10) Joanna I'm Fine 18/1, Did manage a win at Ayr in February 2023 but has found it tough since, finishing well held back from a break here last month. Five months off before latest outing and now moves back up in trip; not totally dismissed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (80/1 -789%) Pammi |
80/1(-789%) | (3) Pammi 80/1, Six-time C&D winner. Might have needed her first outing in 6 months when sixth of 10 over 2½m here 25 days ago. Enters calculations. Seven Perth wins, the latest last September off 4lb higher than today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (100/1 -2122%) River Ayr |
100/1(-2122%) | (5) River Ayr 100/1, 10/3, good fourth of 15 in handicap hurdle at this course (2½m, good to soft) 25 days ago. Likely to be competitive again. Latest start (second crack at 2m4f) suggested he may be of interest over this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (66/1 -725%) Methusalar |
66/1(-725%) | (8) Methusalar 66/1, Winner at Bangor for Alan King back in 2022 but struggled for present connections over both sets of obstacles in recent months. Mark continues to fall but has too much to prove. Well down weights; favourite at Cartmel (2m1f) 11 days ago but nevertheless beaten 15l. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (6) (7/2 +46%) Maura Jeanne |
7/2(+46%) | (6) Maura Jeanne 7/2, Remains a maiden after 17 runs but was a creditable fourth of 9 in handicap hurdle (4/1) at this course (26.5f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Two 3rds and two 4th among her handicap hurdles, including over 3m2f here on latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (2) (9/2 -80%) Paddy Elvis |
9/2(-80%) | (2) Paddy Elvis 9/2, Placed for the second time in handicaps when second of 7 at Downpatrick 16 days ago. Major player for yard whose British runners are always respected. Placed over about 2m6f at Down Royal in April and Downpatrick on latest outing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (1) (15/2 -36%) Diamond State |
15/2(-36%) | (1) Diamond State 15/2, Fair winning hurdler at best who scored over fences in 2022/23. Took a step back in the right direction from his falling mark when third of 15 over 2½m here last month. Contender if able to build on that. 3rd of 15 here (2m4f) on latest outing was easily his most positive display for a while. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Diamond State had River Ayr just behind when third over 2m4f here and he was kindly dropped 2lb for that effort, but he will need to prove he is effective over this distance. With that in mind, he can be taken on with MAURA JEANNE. The seven-year-old mare hit the line well to finish fourth over an extended 3m2f here and she can capitalise on the drop in grade off a 2lb lower mark. Watchoutitscookie can pick up any pieces.
Nigel Hawke's WATCHOUTITSCOOKIE shaped quite well over fences here last month and might prove the answer to this finale. Stuart Crawford's Paddy Elvis may provide the chief threat ahead of recent course third Diamond State.
This race is packed with each-way claims but the top two options may be Diamond State and RIVER AYR, both stepping up in trip.
Ths is the racecard key.
