1st (8) (5/2 +0%) Medieval Gold |
5/2(+0%) | (8) Medieval Gold 5/2, Fairly useful maiden on Flat (stays 2m) for William Haggas and made a sound start to his hurdle career for new connections when second of 5 at Market Rasen in February. Open to progress and leading claims. Ex-William Haggas; runner-up on stable and hurdles debut at Market Rasen (2m) in February.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (7/4 +56%) Vocito |
7/4(+56%) | (7) Vocito 7/4, Flat winner but a long-standing maiden over jumps in Ireland for Eoin Doyle. Has joined a good yard but might find the odd one too strong again. Poor strike-rate (1-35) but possibilities on best hurdle efforts; first go for O. Murphy.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/1 -47%) Kinbara Firstdraft |
11/1(-47%) | (3) Kinbara Firstdraft 11/1, Modest form in a bumper and 2 maiden hurdles in Ireland. Brian Hughes up but Al Medix perhaps the more likely of the yard's pair. Outpaced at Downpatrick (2m2f; seventh of 15) three weeks ago; stablemate of Al Medix.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (12/1 +14%) Stylish Recruit |
12/1(+14%) | (5) Stylish Recruit 12/1, Irish point winner but shaped likely a stayer when fifth of 9 on his 2m Kelso hurdle debut in October. Off since. Unlikely to be of real interest over jumps until tackling further. Point winner; absent since low-key Kelso hurdles debut in October; tongue-tie now applied.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/2 -64%) Ravenscraig Castle |
9/2(-64%) | (4) Ravenscraig Castle 9/2, Pretty useful at up to 2m on the Flat but he has found winning difficult in recent years. Definitely has the ability to play a prominent role in a race like this if taking to his new discipline. Capable Flat performer; no win since 2021 (2-24); stays well & handles soft; hurdles debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (16/1 -33%) Uncle Mac |
16/1(-33%) | (6) Uncle Mac 16/1, Half-brother to 4 winners and has shown a bit when reaching the frame in a Hereford maiden (for Ben Pauling) and C&D novice in his 2 outings over hurdles. Fourth of eight on first start for Rose Dobbin over C&D (soft) last month; more required.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (125/1 -89%) Caledonian Pearl |
125/1(-89%) | (10) Caledonian Pearl 125/1, Modest form in a bumpers last season and last of 5 in 12.5f Newcastle maiden on the Flat 13 days ago. Hard to make a case for. Has shown precious little, including on Flat at Newcastle; hurdles debut; look elsewhere.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (12/1 -200%) Al Medix |
12/1(-200%) | (1) Al Medix 12/1, €100,000 Al Namix gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to bumper winner/very smart hurdler (stayed 25f) Medinas. Wears tongue strap. Interesting newcomer. 100,000euros 3yo; third foal from unraced half-sister to various winners; one to consider.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (200/1 -100%) Bellslea |
200/1(-100%) | (2) Bellslea 200/1, Didn't show much in 3 starts on the Flat for Keith Dalgleish in 2021 and well-held sixth in a C&D novice hurdle on his recent return from a long absence. Moderate on Flat for K Dalgleish; well beaten on C&D hurdles debut (off 950-day absence).. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (250/1 -279%) Runremyrun |
250/1(-279%) | (9) Runremyrun 250/1, Didn't show much in a Galway bumper for Denis Hogan last August. Best watched unless the betting strongly hints otherwise. Soundly beaten in a Galway bumper (2m) last summer; set to make hurdles/stable debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
The experienced Vocito is worth a look on his first start for the in-form Olly Murphy stable, but a chance is taken on the jumping ability of RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE. Iain Jardine's six-year-old rose to a Flat figure of 87 at his peak, and is still rated 80 on the level, so brings a touch of quality to proceedings. Al Medix is the same age yet tastes competitive action for the first time now, but he cost 100,000 euros as a three-year-old so commands attention.
MEDIEVAL GOLD was a promising second on his Market Rasen hurdle debut in February and is taken to go one better now. Al Medix is an interesting newcomer from the Stuart Crawford yard and a market move for him would make him a possible big threat. Ravenscraig Castle is on a long losing run on the Flat but is talented enough to make his presence felt in a race like this if taking to hurdling.
The suggestion is Iain Jardine's hurdling newcomer RAVENSCRAIG CASTLE, who brings a fair level of Flat form into this contest.

Presenting Max |
(5) (7/2 +38%)7/2(+38%) | (5) Presenting Max 7/2, €26,000 3-y-o, Malinas gelding. Dam failed to complete both starts in points. Unseated rider sole start between the flags but interesting what the market makes of him given the yard he represents. Promise shown (despite UR) in opening point; warrants market check for rules/hurdles debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jony R |
(3) (50/1 +0%)50/1(+0%) | (3) Jony R 50/1, Leading Light gelding. Dam (b67), ran once in bumper, closely related to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 2½m) Island Mahee. Pitched into a pretty good bumper and was never involved at Ayr a month ago. Always behind when well beaten in Ayr bumper (2m, soft; 28-1) just under four weeks ago.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dance Floor Drama |
(10) (100/1 +0%)100/1(+0%) | (10) Dance Floor Drama 100/1, In good hands but limited impact in various company so far. Engaged 5.50 here Wednesday. Moderate form so far, including in a maiden hurdle here yesterday. |

1st (2) (6/4 +25%) Imaginarium |
6/4(+25%) | (2) Imaginarium 6/4, Useful on Flat (stays 1½m), mid-field in competitive handicap last time. Has left G. M. Lyons but joined another good yard and this looks an excellent starting point over hurdles. Tongue tie on. Ex-Ger Lyons; fair Flat form (Curragh winner); changed hands for 48,000gns; hurdles debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/2 +40%) Traveling Soldier |
9/2(+40%) | (7) Traveling Soldier 9/2, €17,500 3-y-o, £40,000 5-y-o, Mahler gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdler Silk Run, probably stayed 3¼m, and fair hurdler Empty The Tank. Runner-up sole outing in Irish points but low-key start in a bumper last month. Joined O Murphy for £40,000; too keen in a Newcastle bumper five weeks ago; hurdles debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/1 -186%) Lance Les Des |
10/1(-186%) | (4) Lance Les Des 10/1, Held back by inexperience on debut at Kelso in February but more like it when third of 8 at Hexham 3 weeks ago, travelling with purpose, One to consider now hurdling. Ran well (third) in a Hexham bumper last time; possible contender now switched to hurdles.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (2/1 +50%) Will Knott |
2/1(+50%) | (8) Will Knott 2/1, Bumper winner who faced a stiff task on his hurdles debut in the Grade 2 Premier Hurdle in March. Really ought to benefit from that experience and should do better down in trip/class. Hexham bumper winner; pitched in deep on hurdles debut at Kelso; this is more realistic.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (14/1 -17%) Don't Look Back |
14/1(-17%) | (1) Don't Look Back 14/1, Fair performer on the Flat for Lucinda Russell last year and has made the frame in a brace of handicap hurdles in March. Backward step over C&D 3 weeks ago and he looks extremely vulnerable back in a maiden. Flat winner (1m2f) for L Russell; placed at Carlisle on penultimate start; others stronger. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (40/1 -150%) The Jeweller's Pet |
40/1(-150%) | (6) The Jeweller's Pet 40/1, Third foal, dam unraced. Made frame on last 2 of 4 starts in Irish points, third latest (Jan 28). Placed in an Irish point (3m, heavy; beaten 3.5l) in January; stable/rules debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (50/1 -25%) Spanish Saint |
50/1(-25%) | (9) Spanish Saint 50/1, Mid-field at best in maidens/handicap on Flat for Noel Meade. Ex-Noel Meade (0-4); switches to Nicky Richards for hurdles debut; best watched at present. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Will Knott was pitched into a Grade 2 on his hurdling bow and understandably came up well short, but his solid bumper form entitles him to a place high on the shortlist in a race of this nature. Even so, he is passed over in favour of IMAGINARIUM, who was a smart handicapper on the Flat in Ireland and goes jumping for Lucinda Russell. Keep Presenting Max and Traveling Soldier in mind too.
IMAGINARIUM quickly attained a useful level on the Flat in Ireland and, sure to be well prepared for this hurdles debut, he makes plenty of appeal. Will Knott is in a much more suitable race and a big step forward looks on the cards, with Presenting Max one to monitor very closely in the market.
Many enter calculations, including Presenting Max and Traveling Soldier, but preference is for Lucinda Russell's IMAGINARIUM.

Solway Molly |
(7) (25/1 -178%)25/1(-178%) | (7) Solway Molly 25/1, Bumper winner who got off the mark at the ninth attempt in this sphere when making all at Hexham (20.1f, heavy) in October. However, not so good on both November outings (lost a shoe on latest) so returns with a bit to prove. Lost her way after a productive spell last October; returns from a six-month absence.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (6) (7/2 +56%) Just Dottie |
7/2(+56%) | (6) Just Dottie 7/2, Offered little in bumper/on Flat but has found her feet over hurdles for current stable, overcoming a slipping saddle when winning this corresponding race last year. Shaped as if better for the run after 8 months off here recently and is now just 1 lb above her last winning mark. Won this last year from a similar mark; could strip fitter for recent C&D comeback fifth.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (9) (11/1 +31%) Belle Na Bann |
11/1(+31%) | (9) Belle Na Bann 11/1, Back on track for Micky Hammond when scoring at Newcastle in December and Catterick (15.7f) on New Year's Day. However, she was well beaten on both visits to latter track in February and difficult to know what mood she'll arrive in after a break. Catterick winner (2m) on New Year's Day; less productive since; back with point to prove.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (16/1 +52%) Game Beaaa |
16/1(+52%) | (8) Game Beaaa 16/1, Has share of temperament/jumping issues but finally put it together when a smooth winner at Market Rasen last August. Travelled with plenty of purpose back fourth back at that venue in September but wasn't on a going day when last seen at Sedgefield 7 months ago. Others preferred. Gained first win at Market Rasen (2m2f) last summer; fared okay thereafter (excuse latest). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/2 -56%) Villainess |
7/2(-56%) | (1) Villainess 7/2, Runner-up on first of 2 outings in bumpers for Jamie Snowden and filled same spot in 2 mares' novice hurdles, beaten only ½ length by Sweet Fantasy (won again next time) at Plumpton in January. Not so good in a handicap next time but opened account at Stratford (16.3f) last month. Big player. Justified favouritism in mares' maiden at Stratford (2m, gd/soft) last month; thereabouts.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (7/1 +56%) Kellie's Dream |
7/1(+56%) | (4) Kellie's Dream 7/1, Dual handicap hurdle winner for Andrew Slattery in Ireland and showed a bit when making the frame at Carlisle on her stable debut in February. Finished down the field at Ayr next time but got back on track to some extent when fourth over C&D (soft) 3 weeks ago. Better when fourth of 13 over C&D (soft) last time; place prospects are most realistic.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (7/1 +13%) Anamanda |
7/1(+13%) | (5) Anamanda 7/1, Fairly useful 3-time winner on the Flat in France for Nicolas Clement who showed more than previously over hurdles after 3 months off when a considerately handled fourth of 7 in maiden at Ayr (16f, soft) 27 days ago. Should be better still to come now pitched into a handicap. French Flat winner (1m4f); some positives are drawn from latest Ayr effort; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (12/1 -85%) Celestial Fashion |
12/1(-85%) | (10) Celestial Fashion 12/1, Gained reward for her good run of form when opening her account in conditionals handicap at Newcastle (16.9f, heavy) in March. Failed to repeat that at Kelso 18.1f, good to soft) the following month but she could get back on track down in grade/trip. Determined Newcastle scorer (2m1f) on penultimate start; struggled next time; rain suits.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (11/2 -57%) French Highlands |
11/2(-57%) | (3) French Highlands 11/2, Shirocco filly who is bred to stay well and, with a run in bumpers under her belt, she shaped encouragingly when third in a Hexham novice on hurdles bow in March. Ran to a similar level when filling the same spot there a month later and looks capable of better now handicapping. Tongue tie on. Progress in novice contests at Hexham; handicap debut in suitable company; tongue-tie on.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (12/1 -71%) Beauty To Behold |
12/1(-71%) | (2) Beauty To Behold 12/1, Still a maiden under Rules but has run well at this C&D on 2 out of 3 starts since joining her current yard, probably unsuited by conditions (and also lost a shoe) when well held back in September. In the mix provided she's ready to roll. Perth regular (323327); poor run in September; no major surprise if she bounces back here.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
VILLAINESS didn't give favourite-backers too much to worry about when getting off the mark in a mares' maiden hurdle at Stratford. She could only manage fifth off a 1lb higher mark on her handicap debut at Huntingdon prior to that, but that has turned out to be quite a good race and she could still prove fairly treated. Beauty To Behold chased home her now-stablemate Just Dottie in this 12 months ago and might be the pick of the pair this time. French Highlands is interesting now stepping out of novice company.
Plenty in with a squeak but the vote goes to ANAMANDA, who showed more than previously in this sphere after 3 months off when fourth in an Ayr maiden last month and given her Flat form, she should be capable of better still now handicapping. Villainess opened her account at Stratford last month and she could kick on now up and running, with French Highlands and Celestial Fashion another couple fancied to go well, too.
Villainess is entitled to be thereabouts but the recent Hexham third FRENCH HIGHLANDS receives the vote on her handicap debut.

Cornerstone Lad |
(8) (8/1 -45%)8/1(-45%) | (8) Cornerstone Lad 8/1, Turned in best effort for some time when third at Newcastle (20.1f, heavy) latest but strike rate over fences isn't great and this trip is an unknown. Stuck to his task pretty well when third last month but this 10yo is on the downgrade. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Basford |
(5) (17/2 +47%)17/2(+47%) | (5) Basford 17/2, Bumper winner who scored 3 times over hurdles last summer, producing a dominant display in handicap company at Southwell (3m) in July. Not disgraced, back from 9 months off, when seventh at Southwell 23 days ago but looks on a stiff mark for chase debut. Improved hurdler in a visor last June/July; headgear missing for this chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (12/1 +14%) Statuario |
12/1(+14%) | (1) Statuario 12/1, Dual C&D winner (on quicker ground) in 2022 but absent for 18 months before disappointing effort at Kempton in March and no signs of improvement here since. Back from long absence with two disappointing runs this spring, and not yet proven over 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (11/8 +39%) Busty Boy |
11/8(+39%) | (7) Busty Boy 11/8, Successful on 3 of his 4 starts in Irish points so no surprise he left hurdles form behind when making a winning chase debut at Kelso in October. Upped his game further when just touched off over C&D (soft) latest and remains fairly treated. Lost out only by a short head when clear second over C&D last month; obvious contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (5/1 +44%) Windance |
5/1(+44%) | (4) Windance 5/1, Won back-to-back handicaps in 2023 and would have landed the hat-trick (back from 12 months off) but for unseating rider at last in handicap chase at Plumpton (25.7f, soft). Run respectably both starts since but others look better treated, Blinkers on first time. Unlucky not to complete a hat-trick in February and has made the frame twice since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4/1 +60%) Champ Royal |
4/1(+60%) | (3) Champ Royal 4/1, Much improved since joining Susan Corbett, scoring 4 times (at up to 25.3f) over hurdles last season. Switches to chasing now (didn't jump well on sole previous attempt for former yard) and can't be ruled out. Not yet proven over fences but has made excellent progress over hurdles for this stable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (9) (6/1 -50%) Event Of Sivola |
6/1(-50%) | (9) Event Of Sivola 6/1, Bagged third win of last term when making all in Veterans' handicap over C&D (soft) 21 days ago, unchallenged. This is more competitive but he must enter calculations. Made all over C&D last month and now 7-39 over fences; this race is more competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (17/2 -183%) Massini Man |
17/2(-183%) | (6) Massini Man 17/2, Dual winner in 2022/23 and run creditably in all 3 completed starts last term, latest when second of 7 in handicap chase at Musselburgh (23.6f, soft) 88 days ago, conceding first run. Merits consideration. Placed twice over 2m7f at Musselburgh in February; of interest if judged on that form. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
In an open contest, it could be worth taking a punt on the Anthony Honeyball-trained WINDANCE. Although the nine-year-old will need to improve on last month's third at Ffos Las, first-time blinkers and a return to a right-handed track could be just what the doctor ordered. The biggest threat may emerge from Busty Boy, who was only held by a short head over this C&D off 4lb lower last month. Statuario has won twice over 2m4f at this venue and is interesting as he drops in class today.
BUSTY BOY was only narrowly denied over C&D last month and remains relatively low mileage. He can land the spoils. Massini Man and Event of Sivola are feared most.
Pipped on the post by a strong-finisher over C&D last month, BUSTY BOY could still have more to offer over fences.

Polisud |
(12) (10/1 -25%)10/1(-25%) | (12) Polisud 10/1, Fairly useful hurdle/chase winner in France who took advantage of his falling mark when returning to winning ways in a Newcastle handicap hurdle in March. Has continued in good heart since, fourth behind Scots Poet here on his latest outing. Not beaten far when fourth over C&D three weeks ago and remains of interest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wolfburg |
(11) (14/1 -27%)14/1(-27%) | (11) Wolfburg 14/1, Placed on his second start in bumpers and progressed from his hurdling debut when landing a Catterick maiden hurdle in February. However, after 11 weeks off he was pulled up on his handicap bow at Southwell 2 days ago. Pulled up on handicap debut on Tuesday; needs to bounce back quickly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Malangen |
(13) (28/1 -75%)28/1(-75%) | (13) Malangen 28/1, Successful twice at this venue in 2023/24, including over C&D on the second occasion in September. However, below form at Hexham when last seen in November and this is a tougher contest (races from 1 lb out of the weights). Hood back on. Runs this track well but has fitness to prove and might find this race too competitive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (8) (4/1 +38%) Mack The Man |
4/1(+38%) | (8) Mack The Man 4/1, Has reacted well to a visor lately, building on his Ayr second when winning a competitive series final at Musselburgh (17.4f) in April. Continued in good form when rallying for third behind Scots Poet at this C&D last time. Major player. No longer the force of old but is enjoying a mini-revival; must be considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (4/1 +27%) Dance Thief |
4/1(+27%) | (10) Dance Thief 4/1, Point winner who has improved for the switch to handicaps in this sphere, placing 3 times before getting his head in front at Ayr in March. Again ran well when third at the same C&D last time and he can make his presence felt in his current form. Ended last season with two good efforts (one win) at Ayr; likely contender here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (15/2 -36%) Cuban Cigar |
15/2(-36%) | (3) Cuban Cigar 15/2, Successful at Musselburgh in November and, after a below-par effort next time, has made the frame on his last 4 starts. Collared only near the finish by Scots Poet at this C&D 20 days ago and he can give another good account (placed all 4 outings at this venue). Largely in good form last season, and looked as good as ever when second here last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (11/2 +31%) Scots Poet |
11/2(+31%) | (6) Scots Poet 11/2, Returned to winning ways at Musselburgh on New Year's Day and bounced back from a poor run when finding plenty to score at this C&D by ½ length from Cuban Cigar 20 days ago. Task is now to build on his latest effort. Kept on strongly for C&D win last month; 3lb rise demands even more from him today. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (13/2 +28%) Slugger |
13/2(+28%) | (4) Slugger 13/2, Has an ungainly way of going about things but made a successful start over hurdles in a Kelso novice in October. Has at least matched that form in handicaps without winning, leaving behind a lesser effort when fourth at Ayr last month. Capable of getting involved. Creditable fourth in competitive handicap at Ayr last month; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (4/1 +11%) Liverpool Knight |
4/1(+11%) | (2) Liverpool Knight 4/1, Raised his game to pick up a third win of 2023/24 under a good ride from Sean Bowen at Market Rasen in September. Good effort when second at Huntingdon in November and he could be thereabouts once more returning with his yard going well. Did well in early part of last season; still on workable mark if ready to roll after break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (11/1 +31%) Inferno Sacree |
11/1(+31%) | (7) Inferno Sacree 11/1, Enjoyed a most productive spell when winning 5 times from 6 starts in the first half of 2023, including at this C&D. Has found it tougher since, finishing well held at Plumpton on his latest outing, but he's back below his last winning mark as a result. Free-going front-runner; has become inconsistent, but takes some catching on his good days. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (1) (80/1 -142%) Accidental Rebel |
80/1(-142%) | (1) Accidental Rebel 80/1, Useful hurdler at best for Fergal O'Brien, winning 4 times from 6 starts in the 2022/23 campaign. However, absent for 14 months subsequently and offered little on his stable debut when pulled up at this course (20.2f) 3 weeks ago. Seen only twice since Grade 2 novice win in 2022 and has a lot to prove at present. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (33/1 -106%) Can't Stop Now |
33/1(-106%) | (9) Can't Stop Now 33/1, Front-runner who won a Musselburgh handicap hurdle last year and added to his tally on the Flat during the summer. Ran creditably when second over hurdles at Ayr in March, but well held both starts since. Not straightforward. Good second at Ayr in March but well beaten twice since (Flat/hurdle); hard to predict. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
The returning Liverpool Knight merits respect having capped off 2023 with a solid second at Huntingdon. Olly Murphy's charge boasts a good record fresh and he's not taken lightly. However, C&D winner INFERNO SACREE should find this easier than the Sussex Champion Hurdle at Plumpton at the end of March and the six-year-old could be ready to strike off 1lb lower than his last winning mark. Dance Thief and Cuban Cigar are also noted.
MACK THE MAN has been revitalised by the application of a visor on his last 3 outings, getting back to winning ways at Musselburgh on his penultimate start, and he remains well treated based on old form. He can continue his good spell to score again, with Liverpool Knight respected for the in-form Olly Murphy, while Cuban Cigar is also considered.
It might pay to focus on DANCE THIEF and Slugger, who both ran well in the same competitive handicap at Ayr last month.

Better Getalong |
(2) (22/1 +12%)22/1(+12%) | (2) Better Getalong 22/1, Veteran who sprang a surprise when scoring at Ayr (20.4f) in December. However, he hasn't been in the same form in his 3 subsequent outings, so he looks to be vulnerable to his younger rivals. Same mark as latest success last December; placed twice here and not ruled out.. |

Wasdell Dundalk |
(3) (33/1 -230%)33/1(-230%) | (3) Wasdell Dundalk 33/1, Took advantage of his reduced mark in 2023/24 when completing a hat-trick over fences at this course (all at 23.8f) in August/September. Runner-up at Carlisle next 2 outings, but well held at Haydock when last seen in November. Back in trip/over hurdles after a break. Goes well here; back in trip for return to hurdles; yet to win when fresh.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dalileo |
(13) (40/1 -233%)40/1(-233%) | (13) Dalileo 40/1, Held his form well in the main for his current yard last season, making the frame at this course on 5 occasions. Ended the campaign with a below-par effort, but no surprise to see him get involved back here on his return. Sole hurdles win came over C&D in 2021; record when fresh isn't the most encouraging.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (4) (8/1 -7%) Singapore Trip |
8/1(-7%) | (4) Singapore Trip 8/1, Fairly useful winning hurdler in France and placed 3 times since joining his current yard last season. Soon left behind a lesser effort when third of 16 at Kelso (20.9f) a month ago and he can give another good account. Placed in 3-5 starts since joining current trainer and again has each-way claims.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (5/4 +38%) What A Johnny |
5/4(+38%) | (1) What A Johnny 5/4, Made a winning Rules debut at Stratford in November and has been progressive since, doubling his tally when staying on well for success at this C&D 3 weeks ago. Leading contender with the potential of more still to offer. C&D win in similar race latest; up 9lb but there should be more to come; contender.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (11) (11/2 -22%) Donso Star |
11/2(-22%) | (11) Donso Star 11/2, Off the mark at Ayr (21.4f) in March and has continued in good heart since, producing her best effort yet when only narrowly denied at this C&D 22 days ago. Can make her presence felt in her current form. Improving; went close off a hold-up ride over C&D (soft) last month; up 1lb; player.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (100/1 -52%) Shantou Lucky |
100/1(-52%) | (9) Shantou Lucky 100/1, Winning hurdler/chaser in Ireland for Gavin Cromwell but his form went the wrong way in 2022/23. After 11 months off, has fared no better in 2 starts over hurdles for his current yard. Has had a wind op with tongue strap now applied. Form has tailed off and plenty to prove after failing to complete on his last two starts.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (14/1 -17%) Voix Du Reve |
14/1(-17%) | (6) Voix Du Reve 14/1, Shaped encouragingly early in the 2023/24 campaign before a couple of poor efforts. However, he returned to form when third at Ayr (20.4f, had won the corresponding race in 2023) last time. Task is now to back up his latest effort. Mostly out of sorts in the past year but is slipping to a dangerous mark.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (50/1 -100%) Pammi |
50/1(-100%) | (12) Pammi 50/1, Gained a seventh course success when showing a good attitude to score over 23.9f in September. However, after a poor run on the Flat she's struggled over hurdles at Musselburgh on her last 2 starts. Bounce back called for at her favourite venue. None of her seven course wins came when fresh but she has to be respected at this venue.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (14/1 -100%) Not Staying Long |
14/1(-100%) | (7) Not Staying Long 14/1, Left her first 3 efforts for this yard behind when making all in an Ayr handicap (24.3f) in February. Creditable effort there next time, before not getting home on testing conditions when mid-field at Musselburgh (23.8f) in April. Could bounce back. Disappointed (3m, soft) latest and likely to find a few too good over this shorter trip.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (33/1 +0%) Johnny Dogs |
33/1(+0%) | (5) Johnny Dogs 33/1, Irish point winner and made a winning Rules debut at Market Rasen (20.5f) last June. Failed to repeat that effort next time, but fared better after 4 months off when third in a Kelso novice (18.1f) in April. However, weakened quickly on his handicap bow 12 days ago. Trainer's string in good form; not written off going back up to a more suitable trip.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (7/1 +56%) Rob Roy Macgregor |
7/1(+56%) | (10) Rob Roy Macgregor 7/1, Bumper winner and offered something to work on first 2 outings over hurdles in 2023/24. However, his form has gone backwards on his last 3 starts, hanging right throughout at Newcastle in March. Needs to get back on track. Bumper winner (heavy) who hasn't gone on over hurdles; competitive mark; plenty to prove.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (13/2 -8%) St John's Road |
13/2(-8%) | (8) St John's Road 13/2, Shaped like a stayer when runner-up in a bumper and promise both starts in novice hurdles. Not in the same form on her handicap debut, but soon back on track when third of 6 (Donso Star in second) at this C&D 22 days ago. Enters calculations. Placed over C&D (soft) last month; unexposed and looks likely to be in the mix again.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A rise in distance saw a much-improved performance from WHAT A JOHNNY, who regained the winning thread over track and trip last month in some style. A 9lb hike in the ratings will make life more difficult for the gelded son of Yeats, but he looks more than capable of following up. Donso Star arrives in fine fettle and should give another good account, while Singapore Trip warrants respect on this ease in grade.
WHAT A JOHNNY relished the step up in trip when scoring in good style at this C&D last time and he is taken to follow up with further progress to come. The main danger could be Donso Star, who has also been going the right way of late, ahead of the lightly-raced St John's Road.
The manner of victory by the improving WHAT A JOHNNY (nap) here last time suggests that he can defy a 9lb rise.

Leitrim Chief |
(3) (9/2 +0%)9/2(+0%) | (3) Leitrim Chief 9/2, Lightly-raced maiden who stepped forward from his chasing debut when third at Hexham last time, staying on well after meeting some interference. Promises to be suited by the step up in trip, so looks a big player. Unlucky not to finish closer latest; drops 1lb; return to further looks positive; player.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (8) (18/1 -13%) Imperial Rule |
18/1(-13%) | (8) Imperial Rule 18/1, Placed in Irish points so, while he only hinted at promise on one of his three outings in novice hurdles, there could be more to come starting out in this sphere for handicap debut. May be able to do better now chasing has that to prove; hood now accompanies tongue-tie.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (17/2 -42%) Sword Of Fate |
17/2(-42%) | (5) Sword Of Fate 17/2, On a dangerous mark and goes well at this track (won this two years ago), so he's very much one to have in mind after a recent spin over hurdles should have put him spot on for this. Recent efforts, including here on his penultimate start, leave him a fair bit to prove.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (12/1 +14%) Claret Dabbler |
12/1(+14%) | (10) Claret Dabbler 12/1, Maiden who was badly let down by jumping at Hexham last time. Had been shaping as if in form prior to that, so could get back on track returned to longer trip. Kelso second gives him a chance but below par since; he has it to prove over this far.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (8/1 -7%) Limerick Leader |
8/1(-7%) | (6) Limerick Leader 8/1, Fair hurdler but just a modest maiden handicap chaser. Only sixth at Kelso a couple of months ago and hard to know if he'll turn up on his game after a break. Well below par when favourite at Kelso (2m1f, soft) latest; hard to predict.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (17/2 +29%) Contre Ordre |
17/2(+29%) | (7) Contre Ordre 17/2, Capitalised on a career-low mark to land 17f Sedgefield handicap chase in November. Has generally struggled since, however, so will need the blinkers to perk him up. Triple 2m1f chase winner; below par recently and has a bit to prove over this far.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (2/1 +20%) Wal Buck's |
2/1(+20%) | (1) Wal Buck's 2/1, Lightly raced hurdler who ran creditably at Hexham 55 days ago. Has the physique to make a much better chaser and is worth chancing to make a successful start in this discipline. Showed some ability over hurdles and goes chasing with potential; interesting.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (10/1 +50%) Fenna's Loss |
10/1(+50%) | (4) Fenna's Loss 10/1, Fair hurdler who scored at Hexham last summer. Good second back at that course in September but pulled up all three subsequent starts. Returns to chasing. 7lb lower than when second over hurdles at Hexham last year but badly out of sorts since.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (7/2 -5%) Grand Voyage |
7/2(-5%) | (2) Grand Voyage 7/2, Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. 4/1, creditable second of 11 in handicap chase at Kelso (21.6f, soft) 31 days ago, staying on well. On a good mark and should be on the premises. Second at Kelso (2m5f, soft) latest; back up 2lb but he's a player if holding that form.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (20/1 +0%) Fourth Of July |
20/1(+0%) | (9) Fourth Of July 20/1, Hasn't won for quite a while and arrives on the back of a lacklustre display (returning from a year off) over hurdles here. Cheekpieces refitted but has a bit to prove returned to chasing. Hasn't threatened to end his losing run on his two runs either side of 11 months off.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
WAL BUCK'S failed to justify favouritism over the smaller obstacles at Hexham last time, but he now makes his chase debut and takes a drop in trip. Lucinda Russell's five-year-old could prove a different proposition in this sphere and he gets the nod ahead of Grand Voyage, who was only beaten a length into second in this grade at Kelso last month. Sword Of Fate and Limerick Leader can fight it out for the minor honours.
WAL BUCK'S is very much built for chasing and ran with credit over hurdles last time, so he's potentially capable of making a winning start over the larger obstacles. Grand Voyage and Leitrim Chief are both solid alternatives.
With a little more luck in running this time, LEITRIM CHIEF is taken to record a first win in this discipline.

Kilwaughter |
(10) (6/1 +0%)6/1(+0%) | (10) Kilwaughter 6/1, €30,000 3-y-o, Milan gelding. Half-brother to numerous winners, including fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Top of The Bill. One for shortlist on debut given connections. 24,000euros foal, 30,000euros 3yo; half-brother to five winners; interesting newcomer.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (1) (11/4 -22%) Takt De Touques |
11/4(-22%) | (1) Takt De Touques 11/4, Winning pointer who followed suit with a gutsy display on Rules debut over C&D recently. Penalty makes life tougher but his attitude should hold him in good stead. Debut winner here (soft); not easy to follow up under a penalty but he should go well.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (15/8 +32%) Cairndhu |
15/8(+32%) | (7) Cairndhu 15/8, Shirocco gelding. Dam, unraced, closely related to Champion Hurdle winner Rock On Ruby. Appears to be stable's first string and worth chancing to make a winning start. Unraced dam closely related to Champion Hurdle winner Rock On Ruby and a bumper winner.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (11/1 +21%) Fairlawn Skipper |
11/1(+21%) | (8) Fairlawn Skipper 11/1, Schiaparelli gelding. Dam unraced, out of half-sister to winning hurdler/smart chaser Swansea Bay (best at 3m+) and winning hurdler/useful chaser Gower-Slave (best at 2½m/2¾m). Makes some appeal. £2,000 yearling; first foal; dam unraced, out of maiden half-sister to winner Swansea Bay.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (17/2 +15%) Whathaveyou |
17/2(+15%) | (5) Whathaveyou 17/2, £50,000 3-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Dam unraced half-sister to fairly useful hurdler/chaser who became temperamental (stayed 3½m) Riverside City out of 2¼m hurdle winner (stayed 2½m) Blazing Sky. Wears hood. Looks the pick of pair for a trainer who is 8% in bumpers (five seasons); market check.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (8/1 -60%) Magna Victor |
8/1(-60%) | (3) Magna Victor 8/1, Has a modest pedigree but showed up well for a long way when 2¼ lengths sixth to Takt De Touques on debut here last month, travelling well. Should get closer to that rival on better terms. Sixth behind Takt De Touques; reopposes on 7lb better terms and could make a race of it.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (28/1 -155%) Inoue |
28/1(-155%) | (9) Inoue 28/1, Half-brother to 3 winners but little encouragement at Down Royal 10 days ago. Would need to have learned plenty from that if he's to feature in this. 11-2 when he finished 37l adrift at Down Royal (2m1f, good); much more needed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (14/1 +30%) Split Stone |
14/1(+30%) | (4) Split Stone 14/1, Clovis Du Berlais gelding. Dam lightly raced on Flat/in points. Not an obvious sort on paper. £800 yearling; fifth foal; dam unplaced at 7f-1m4f Flat; not an obvious debut winner.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (8/1 +60%) Big Storm Brewing |
8/1(+60%) | (2) Big Storm Brewing 8/1, Pether's Moon horse. Dam (b85), placed in bumpers/showed nothing sole start over hurdles, half-sister to fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser (stays 3m) Arthur's Quay. First foal; dam placed in bumpers but trainer 0-17 in this sphere over five seasons.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
TAKT DE TOUQUES may have been worth more than the winning margin suggests when scoring over this C&D on his Rules bow and, with scope for improvement, he is taken to defy his 7lb penalty to record a double. That said, Magna Victor was only beaten two and a quarter lengths when sixth in that same contest and should improve for his racecourse debut, so he looks a threat as he reopposes the winner on better terms. Any market confidence behind Fairlawn Skipper would also be interesting.
CAIRNDHU is from the family of a Champion Hurdle winner and Brian Hughes is booked, so it's worth taking a chance that he has enough ability to make a winning start in a race that's unlikely to prove strong. Takt de Touques is an obvious player having scored in determined fashion on Rules debut here recently and Magna Victor could do better.
It shouldn't be easy for Takt De Touques under a penalty. Stuart Crawford-trained pair CAIRNDHU and Kilwaughter are interesting.
Ths is the racecard key.
