1st (11) (9/1 +44%) Surely Not |
9/1(+44%) | (11) Surely Not 9/1, Dual winner last season and shaped better than the bare result when fifth in a nursery at York 6 months ago. Gelded and likely to be tuned up for this return.
2nd (9) (7.5/1 +17%) Connemara Coast |
7.5/1(+17%) | (9) Connemara Coast 7.5/1, Well-bred gelding who was off the mark at the second attempt at Wolverhampton in October and wasn't seen to best effect under a penalty at Lingfield 25 days ago. Remains with potential.
3rd (3) (11/1 -10%) Gulmarg |
11/1(-10%) | (3) Gulmarg 11/1, Creditable third of 7 in handicap at Kempton (7f, 4/1) 21 days ago. Consistent sort who should go well again, but others are open to more improvement.
4th (2) (18/1 -80%) Lion Kingdom |
18/1(-80%) | (2) Lion Kingdom 18/1, Boasts a progressive profile and had something to spare when off the mark at Wolverhampton 7 months ago. Further improvement expected, and he's likely to feature if he takes to the track.
5th (6) (7/1 -8%) Supreme King |
7/1(-8%) | (6) Supreme King 7/1, Fairly useful form as a juvenile and made a pleasing return when runner-up at Nottingham, pulling clear of the remainder. That form is backed up by the time and another solid showing seems assured.
6th (5) (18/1 -100%) Burdett Road |
18/1(-100%) | (5) Burdett Road 18/1, Promising individual. 13/8, career best when winning 5-runner maiden at Lingfield (8f, AW) 43 days ago, readily. Open to further improvement and makes appeal on handicap debut.
7th (4) (12/1 +14%) Bussento |
12/1(+14%) | (4) Bussento 12/1, Best effort when second of 15 in novice event at Newbury on final juvenile outing. Not disgraced when only third at Wolverhampton on reappearance and should be better for the run.
8th (13) (3.5/1 +46%) Elwasme |
3.5/1(+46%) | (13) Elwasme 3.5/1, Showed a fair level of form on each of his three runs last season and his pedigree suggests he should make a better 3yo, so can't be ruled out.
9th (7) (18/1 +10%) Seductive Power |
18/1(+10%) | (7) Seductive Power 18/1, Fairly useful performer who has scope and has run well on the AW the last twice. Likely to give another good account, but others are less exposed.
10th (12) (10/1 +17%) Gentle Whinny |
10/1(+17%) | (12) Gentle Whinny 10/1, Confirmed previous encouragement when scoring in a novice at Windsor 6 months ago and there's more to come now handicapping, so not a forlorn hope.
11th (14) (16/1 -33%) Playupskyblues |
16/1(-33%) | (14) Playupskyblues 16/1, Opened his account at the third attempt in novice at Redcar 6 months ago. Handicapper hasn't been all that lenient with opening mark but there could be more to come.
12th (1) (10/1 +9%) Dionysian |
10/1(+9%) | (1) Dionysian 10/1, Left debut form well behind when scoring at Kempton in October and had little trouble following up under a penalty there in December. Likely to improve again now handicapping and must be respected.
13th (8) (16/1 +20%) Cobalt Blue |
16/1(+20%) | (8) Cobalt Blue 16/1, Fair maiden who had the run of the race when second to Lion Kingdom in a novice at Wolverhampton 7 months ago. Gelded and may well do better this season.
14th (15) (25/1 -108%) Dream Pirate |
25/1(-108%) | (15) Dream Pirate 25/1, Has improved with each run to date and didn't have a hard race when sixth in a Lingfield novice 25 days ago. Open to improvement on handicap bow.
15th (10) (25/1 -56%) Almarin |
25/1(-56%) | (10) Almarin 25/1, Lightly raced and got off the mark in a novice at Yarmouth 6 months ago. Lacks the potential of some of these rivals, though. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Burdett Road seems to be a promising individual with a career-best win in a maiden at Lingfield and is open to further improvement.
It looks as if almost any of these 3yos are ruled out at your peril. PLAYUPSKYBLUES is preferred to Dionysian and Supreme King.

1st (7) (9/1 -20%) Orazio |
9/1(-20%) | (7) Orazio 9/1, Made up into a useful 2-y-o in 2021 and shaped as if retaining all his ability after 17 months off when sixth on handicap debut at Kempton (6f) in January (should sharpen up both physically and mentally with that under his belt). Remains with potential.
2nd (5) (4/1 +11%) Probe |
4/1(+11%) | (5) Probe 4/1, Picked up out of Dermot Weld's yard for 62,000 gns and looked better than ever when scoring on all-weather debut at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 25 days ago, the combination of a hood and a first try sprinting suiting him well. That was impressive, so there could well be more to come back on turf.
3rd (9) (8/1 +11%) Chairmanoftheboard |
8/1(+11%) | (9) Chairmanoftheboard 8/1, Useful 6f winner at his best but he didn't prove the easiest to catch right last term and not for the first time shaped as if the run was needed when well behind Aleezdancer on return at Doncaster (6f, heavy) earlier this month. Likely to step up on that here.
4th (8) (14/1 -17%) Leap Abroad |
14/1(-17%) | (8) Leap Abroad 14/1, Opened his tally on the turf at Pontefract last April and followed up from an 8 lb higher mark a couple of months later on the July course (6f, good). Only 1 lb higher for this return but probably best watched given the length of absence (also gelded in interim).
5th (4) (7.5/1 +17%) Admiral D |
7.5/1(+17%) | (4) Admiral D 7.5/1, Dual winner at 2 yrs (on soft ground) in Ireland and, though yet to hit the target for present connections, he largely performed with credit last year. Failed to land a blow on final 2022 outing in Coral Sprint Trophy at York but folly to discount on return under these conditions.
6th (3) (4/1 +27%) Aleezdancer |
4/1(+27%) | (3) Aleezdancer 4/1, Consistent sort who having been gambled on, returned with a career-best effort after 6 months off to land a big-field handicap at Doncaster (6f, heavy, 9/2) earlier this month, taking his record on soft/heavy from 4-4. Up 7 lb but dangerous to discount with conditions forecast to suit.
7th (10) (7.5/1 -15%) Above |
7.5/1(-15%) | (10) Above 7.5/1, Hit the crossbar a few times last season and should be sharper for his return fifth at Chelmsford (7f) last month. One to watch in the market.
8th (11) (20/1 -11%) Equiano Springs |
20/1(-11%) | (11) Equiano Springs 20/1, Good record here (4-4 over C&D) and ended last season with a respectable sixth at Newcastle (6f) in October. Has looked a shade rusty reappearing in recent years so percentage call is to look elsewhere despite his great course record.
9th (12) (18/1 +10%) The Green Man |
18/1(+10%) | (12) The Green Man 18/1, Opened his account for the year at Kempton in March and similar form when finishing sixth at Lingfield (6f, AW) 12 days ago, nearest finish. More needed back on turf.
10th (1) (25/1 -39%) Mr Wagyu |
25/1(-39%) | (1) Mr Wagyu 25/1, Admirable sprinter who enjoyed another fine yet busy campaign last season, landing big pots at Epsom and the Curragh. Ended with a couple of below-par efforts though, and every chance he will need this returning from 6 months off.
11th (6) (7/1 +13%) Aphelios |
7/1(+13%) | (6) Aphelios 7/1, Gradually progressive last year (still yet to finish out of the first 3), notching his third success at Kempton in October. Should continue to go the right way and one to look out for after 5 months off back on turf for shrewd connections. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
A progressive sort throughout last season, a chance is taken with APHELIOS on his return, having not been outside the first three in 12 career starts. The son of Kodiak has run well fresh before and he gets the vote ahead of Aleezdancer, who was impressive at Doncaster last time, as well as first-time gelding Leap Abroad. The veteran Mr Wagyu can never be ruled out in a contest of this nature.
Having been given plenty of time since being picked up out of Dermot Weld's yard, PROBE was well suited by a switch to sprinting when scoring impressively at Wolverhampton last month and with better still to come back on turf, he's fancied to make light of a 6 lb rise in the weights and follow up. Orazio shaped as if retaining all ability on his belated handicap debut in January so he may emerge as the main danger, ahead of Aleezdancer and Admiral D.
Aleezdancer is a smart sprinter in the making on slow ground but PROBE (nap) created a striking impression on his stable debut.

1st (3) (7.5/1 +6%) Canberra Legend |
7.5/1(+6%) | (3) Canberra Legend 7.5/1, 350,000 gns Australia colt who was strong in the betting and showed why with a comfortable debut win at Newcastle (1m) in February. This a jump in class but there's definitely more to come.
2nd (8) (16/1 +0%) Kolsai |
16/1(+0%) | (8) Kolsai 16/1, Confirmed debut promise when landing the odds in a 7f course maiden last September. Represents last year's winning trainer/jockey combination. Definitely more to come from him.
3rd (7) (25/1 -14%) Killybegs Warrior |
25/1(-14%) | (7) Killybegs Warrior 25/1, Dual winner over 7f on the July Course here last summer. Best effort when length third to the reopposing Bold Act in Chelmsford conditions race 18 days ago. Likely vulnerable to more progressive types.
4th (9) (5.5/1 +45%) Regal Honour |
5.5/1(+45%) | (9) Regal Honour 5.5/1, Bred to be smart and built on an encouraging debut third when winning a 7f course novice in October. Buick sides with Bold Act but still no surprise to see this one in the thick of things.
5th (2) (1.88/1 +32%) Bold Act |
1.88/1(+32%) | (2) Bold Act 1.88/1, Unbeaten in 4 starts since his July Course debut second, returning from 6 months off to see off 9 rivals in a 1m Chelmsford conditions race 18 days ago. Smart performer in the making for his top yard.
6th (5) (22/1 +21%) Galactic Jack |
22/1(+21%) | (5) Galactic Jack 22/1, Stepped up on debut to win 9-runner maiden at Goodwood (1¼m, good) last September but well behind Blanchland in the Zetland here on final 2-y-o start. Others are preferred.
7th (6) (5/1 -82%) Intinso |
5/1(-82%) | (6) Intinso 5/1, Siyouni colt who landed short odds on his 1m Newcastle debut last autumn. The Gosden stable has won this 3 times since 2015, including with Golden Horn. Very interesting runner.
8th (1) (3.33/1 +5%) Blanchland |
3.33/1(+5%) | (1) Blanchland 3.33/1, Better with each run at 2, culminating with length second to Flying Honours in 1¼m Zetland Stakes here in October. Potential for better again this year. Big player.
9th (4) (33/1 -32%) Captain Wierzba |
33/1(-32%) | (4) Captain Wierzba 33/1, Won a Ffos Las novice over an extended 7f last summer. Stepped up on that form when 9¼ lengths sixth of 8 to Auguste Rodin in Group 1 Futurity at Doncaster (1m, heavy) on final start but he was never involved and will need more again to figure prominently here. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Jane Chapple-Hyam had a couple of talented sorts in her ranks last season, and BLANCHLAND looks like one to get excited about among the classic generation. A highly encouraging second in the Zetland Stakes when last seen here in October, the son of Farhh is 5lb clear of his closest rival Bold Act on ratings and he can prove just why. An entry in both the Guineas and the Derby, Canberra Legend made quite the impression on his debut at Newcastle, and he must enter calculations, along with Intinso, whose connections have an excellent record in this race.
BLANCHLAND went close at pattern level here on his final 2-y-o start and might be the answer with further progress a distinct possibility. Godolphin pair Bold Act and Regal Honour head the dangers. The Gosden stable has a good recent record in this race so last autumn's Newcastle debut scorer Intinso is also worthy of respect, particularly if the betting vibes are strong.
Bold Act looks the Appleby first-string but the same stable's REGAL HONOUR could be a big improver over this longer trip.

1st (11) (16/1 +52%) Mammas Girl |
16/1(+52%) | (11) Mammas Girl 16/1, Havana Grey filly who overcame greenness to make a winning debut in 10-runner novice over C&D in October, leading around 1f and quickening clear. Has a lot more on her plate at this level, but she's open to improvement nonetheless.
2nd (5) (4.5/1 +0%) Fairy Cross |
4.5/1(+0%) | (5) Fairy Cross 4.5/1, Quickly developed into a useful performer at 2 yrs, landing the Prestige Stakes at Goodwood on her final outing. Failed to match that on her return at Meydan but still sets the standard on her juvenile form.
3rd (13) (40/1 -21%) Secret Angel |
40/1(-21%) | (13) Secret Angel 40/1, Steadily progressive in 2022, gaining a third win in 7-runner listed race at Deauville (6f, good to soft) in October. More needed back up in grade but the step up to 7f is worth exploring.
4th (9) (22/1 -38%) Karsavina |
22/1(-38%) | (9) Karsavina 22/1, Ulysses filly. Half-sister to smart 2-y-o 7f winner Positive. Made the perfect start to her career in a 13-runner novice over C&D in October, keeping on well to lead close home. Sure to progress and looks an interesting contender up in grade.
5th (2) (18/1 +40%) Believing |
18/1(+40%) | (2) Believing 18/1, AW novice winner who improved when runner-up in Group 3 company at Kempton and Ayr (both 6f) in September. Similar form when third in listed event here on final outing but has a bit to prove back at 7f having failed to stay on her only previous attempt. Has had a breathing op since last seen.
6th (7) (9/1 -38%) Girl Racer |
9/1(-38%) | (7) Girl Racer 9/1, No Nay Never filly who made an impressive winning debut in 10-runner novice event at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 23 days ago, quickening to lead final 1f. Sure to progress and not taken lightly up in grade.
7th (15) (66/1 -32%) Sweet Harmony |
66/1(-32%) | (15) Sweet Harmony 66/1, Landed a 6f Yarmouth maiden in August but came up short in better company thereafter. Up against it on her seasonal return.
8th (12) (8.5/1 +29%) Queen Olly |
8.5/1(+29%) | (12) Queen Olly 8.5/1, Ready winner on debut at York and reached the frame at Group level on her next 2 outings. Met trouble when below form in the Oh So Sharp Stakes over C&D and bounced back to the pick of her form when second in a 6f listed event here on final outing. Has left David Loughnane. Should stay 7f.
9th (6) (16/1 +20%) Frankness |
16/1(+20%) | (6) Frankness 16/1, Frankel filly who landed a pair of novice events at Chester prior to disappointing in Doncaster Group 2 (1m) on her final outing. Drops back in trip on her return and remains potentially useful.
10th (3) (2/1 +0%) Coppice |
2/1(+0%) | (3) Coppice 2/1, Kingman filly. Sister to very smart 6f winner Calyx and created an excellent impression herself when making a winning debut in a 7f novice at Kempton in October, asserting final 50 yds. Exciting prospect.
11th (1) (18/1 -13%) Barefoot Angel |
18/1(-13%) | (1) Barefoot Angel 18/1, Showed much-improved form when coming from last to first in a well-run Group 3 at Ayr in September. Off the bridle a long way out when third in Two-Year-Old Trophy at Redcar (6f) on final outing, so ought to benefit from this step up to 7f on return.
12th (10) (150/1 -88%) Lady Bullet |
150/1(-88%) | (10) Lady Bullet 150/1, Dual winner in 2022 and ran her best race in first-time cheekpieces when second in listed race at Deauville (6.5f) on her reappearance in March. However, was well held back up in grade there last time.
13th (8) (12/1 +14%) Inner Space |
12/1(+14%) | (8) Inner Space 12/1, Bred in the purple and looked a good prospect when making all in a 14-runner novice at Kempton (1m) on debut in November. That form is proving solid and she's sure to progress.
14th (14) (8.5/1 +39%) Small Oasis |
8.5/1(+39%) | (14) Small Oasis 8.5/1, Impressive winner of a Curragh maiden on second start and took another step forward when third in Oh So Sharp Stakes over C&D on her final run for Michael Grassick. Ran no sort of race in Newbury listed event when last seen but was possibly unsuited by conditions.
15th (4) (50/1 +0%) Dubai Jemila |
50/1(+0%) | (4) Dubai Jemila 50/1, Expensive breeze-up acquisition who opened her account at the second time of asking in a novice at Ayr (7.2f) in August. Never landed a blow in the Rockfel Stakes over C&D next time though and faces another stiff task on her return. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Coppice made a pleasing start to her racing career when recording a comfortable success over this trip at Kempton in October. She is a full-sister to Group 2 winner Calyx and should not be underestimated, but FAIRY CROSS is narrowly preferred. A Group 3 winner over 7f at Goodwood last August, she has since finished a fair second over a mile at Meydan in February and may appreciate cutting back in trip. Girl Racer is stepping up in grade following an easy win at Wolverhampton on her racecourse bow last month, while Frankness also warrants a market check.
COPPICE didn't quite produce the jaw-dropping first display of her brother Calyx at Kempton in October, but she still created an excellent impression and is open to oodles of improvement, so is very much one to follow. Fairy Cross sets the standard on her Prestige win, while Karsavina and Girl Racer are others that slip into the 'could be anything' category.
Frankie Dettori has won this seven times and COPPICE is taken to provide him with Nell Gwyn win number eight.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Dorothy Lawrence boasts an appealing pedigree, being a half-sister to several notable types including Italian Listed winner Festive Star, so she looks more than capable of having a say in proceedings on her racecourse bow. However, PERSIAN DREAMER was a 145,000-euro purchase as a yearling and her dam is a full-sister to Group 1 runner-up Tiger Moth. She can make a winning start to her racing career, while Specific Times adds further spice to the race.
PERSIAN DREAMER makes plenty of appeal on paper for a yard who saddled the runner-up in the Brocklesby and have had 2 winning newcomers for connections since and she could be the way to go without the benefit of market clues. Karl Burke's Dorothy Lawrence is another interesting newcomer and feared, along with Specific Times. She's Smart, the sole runner with experience, can also get in the mix.
Top of the list is 145,000euros yearling PERSIAN DREAMER for Amo Racing, with the Karl Burke-trained Dorothy Lawrence second choice

It has come as no surprise to see Charlie Appleby hit the ground running this season. The locally-based trainer, who boasts a terrific strike-rate with his three-year-olds on the Rowley Mile, is fancied to enhance his already impressive record with SILVER LADY. By Sea The Stars and a half-sister to the classy Highland Avenue, the filly should hold all of the correct attributes in order to succeed on her debut. Ludmilla was only beaten a neck on her first start, which came here over 7f, and she can take a step forward with improvement likely. The powerful Shadwell operation are represented by Mubhijah and Rowayeh, of whom the former is preferred.
This is sure to be an informative early-season maiden with LUDMILLA the most compelling runner following a seriously eye-catching effort on debut over 7f here in the autumn. Newcomers may pose the stiffest opposition, with Silver Lady and Sea Claret of particular interest.
The Gosden stable has a fine record in this race and LUDMILLA, who shaped with considerable promise here in October, can enhance it.

3/1(+40%) | (6) Like A Tiger 3/1, Off the mark at the third time of asking when getting the better of a promising newcomer in 13-runner minor event at Kempton (1m) in November. Remains capable of better as he goes handicapping over this longer distance.
2nd (3) (10/1 -25%) Regal Empire |
10/1(-25%) | (3) Regal Empire 10/1, Upped in trip for his handicap debut, proved a different proposition when easily winning 6-runner handicap at Southwell (11.1f) 50 days ago. Has been raised 10 lb for that success, but he's not taken lightly as he makes his first start on turf.
3rd (4) (7.5/1 -7%) Shahbaz |
7.5/1(-7%) | (4) Shahbaz 7.5/1, Back down in trip with cheekpieces on first time, found some improvement when opening account in 11-runner nursery at this course (9f, soft) in October. Can give another good account having been gelded ahead of his return.
4th (8) (10/1 +0%) Demilion |
10/1(+0%) | (8) Demilion 10/1, Justified market support when making a successful handicap debut at Wolverhampton (9.5f) in January. Backed that up with a good effort at Doncaster (10.2f, heavy) 17 days ago, albeit no match for the winner. Needs to find more again.
5th (7) (6.5/1 +24%) Sudden Ambush |
6.5/1(+24%) | (7) Sudden Ambush 6.5/1, After 4 months, won minor event at Lingfield (1m) in January, form which has worked out well. Wasn't able to improve on handicap debut when second of 4 at Wolverhampton the following month, but it still remains early days as he goes up in trip.
6th (5) (20/1 -67%) Man Of Eden |
20/1(-67%) | (5) Man Of Eden 20/1, Ran to a fairly useful level in Ireland for John S. O'Donoghue and didn't need to be at his best when winning 8-runner maiden at Newcastle (1m) on his stable debut in January. Up in trip as he makes his second start in a handicap.
7th (9) (25/1 -79%) Great Bedwyn |
25/1(-79%) | (9) Great Bedwyn 25/1, Improved further when making all in 6-runner maiden at Newcastle (10.2f) 48 days ago, with the first 2 pulling clear of the remainder. Could do better again as he makes his handicap debut.
8th (1) (5.5/1 -65%) High Honour |
5.5/1(-65%) | (1) High Honour 5.5/1, Expensive purchase who got off the mark at the second attempt in a Goodwood maiden (1m, good to soft) last year. In first-time cheekpieces, badly hampered when third at Chelmsford (1m2f) next time and should have more to offer now handicapping (has been gelded).
9th (2) (3.5/1 +13%) Imperial Ace |
3.5/1(+13%) | (2) Imperial Ace 3.5/1, Has progressed with each of his 3 starts so far, defying a penalty in good style when successful in minor event at Southwell (8.1f) 78 days ago. Leading contender with more to come upped in trip on his turf/handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
DEMILION did well to finish second at Doncaster 17 days ago having raced freely in the early stages. He was returning from an absence that day, however, and it's likely that run has blown away the cobwebs. The Roaring Lion colt can continue to progress on the turf this season, and the booking of Frankie Dettori catches the eye. Imperial Ace makes his handicap debut from an opening mark of 90 following a brace of successes at Newcastle and Southwell and appeals as a leading contender, along with the Charlie Appleby-trained High Honour. At the foot of the handicap, it would be folly to underestimate the chances of Great Bedwyn.
This informative 3-y-o contest can go the way of IMPERIAL ACE, who is taken to complete his hat-trick as he goes up in trip on his handicap debut. Heading the list of dangers is Regal Empire, who got off the mark easily when last seen in February, while High Honour is another who merits consideration.
In a field full of promise, slight preference is for IMPERIAL ACE who left a positive impression with his two 1m novice wins on Tapeta.
Ths is the racecard key.
