1st (16) (10/1 +29%) Cave Hill |
10/1(+29%) | (16) Cave Hill 10/1, Eleven-race maiden overall and he's likely to come up short once more. 0-8 over hurdles but shaped well at Ayr last month, after a break; not out of this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (4/1 +0%) Glory Hights |
4/1(+0%) | (7) Glory Hights 4/1, Off the mark at the ninth attempt over hurdles when landing a 9-runner Carlisle handicap (24.6f, good to soft) back from a break last month. William Maggs again in the hot-seat and he's a key player up 4 lb. Held on well at Carlisle (3m) last month; contender if also suited by trip/ground here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (10/1 +44%) Supreme Authority |
10/1(+44%) | (10) Supreme Authority 10/1, No show in several maiden hurdles for previous yard but there were more encouraging signs upped to 19.8f for his handicap debut at Sedgefield last month. Place possibilities if able to build on that. Ex-Irish maiden; shaped well when fourth on last month's stable/handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (13) (66/1 +18%) Billable Grant |
66/1(+18%) | (13) Billable Grant 66/1, Sole success to date came in an Irish maiden hurdle back in March 2022 and he's hard to make a case for here on the back of a rather drap display for new connections at Ayr. Out of form in Ireland this year and there was no revival on his stable debut in October. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (22/1 +56%) Jingle Jangle Jet |
22/1(+56%) | (8) Jingle Jangle Jet 22/1, No great shakes in a couple of bumpers and a trio of maiden hurdles. Big step forward needed now upped in trip for this handicap debut. Showed only minor promise in his qualifying races but may improve in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (12) (17/2 +15%) Bergentown |
17/2(+15%) | (12) Bergentown 17/2, On a losing run but he posted a very good second of 11 in handicap hurdle at Southwell (24.3f) in October. Not disgraced next 2 starts, albeit without leaving the impression that his turn is imminent. In the frame three times this autumn and may benefit from today's drop back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (11/1 -22%) Paddy O'mahler |
11/1(-22%) | (3) Paddy O'mahler 11/1, Reached the frame in a couple of handicaps last spring and, though not at his best in 2 runs so far this season, he has to enter calculations off this reduced mark with first-time cheekpieces enlisted. Weakened into modest sixth at Carlisle last month and now 0-10 over hurdles; headgear on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (15) (10/3 +67%) Ginger Pointe |
10/3(+67%) | (15) Ginger Pointe 10/3, Made winning yard/chase debut at Market Rasen in August and has performed to run to a similar level both completed starts in that sphere since. Respectable fifth of 12 back hurdling at Sedgefield (19.8f, good) last time and he merits respect. Stuck in traffic at crucial stage when fifth on hurdle return last month; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (28/1 -180%) Dalileo |
28/1(-180%) | (2) Dalileo 28/1, Posted best effort for some time when taking a 10-runner Ayr handicap (19.5f, good to soft) last month but was essentially put in his place off this 6 lb higher mark at Musselburgh next time. Won readily from off the pace last month but held since and remains on fairly tough mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (9) (20/1 -186%) Agilulf |
20/1(-186%) | (9) Agilulf 20/1, Still to register a victory and while he again performed with credit at Musselburgh (19.8f, good to soft) recently, finishing fourth of 11 in a handicap off a 1 lb higher mark, one or two of these look more solid. 0-21 under all codes but ran well from the front when fourth at Musselburgh last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (25/1 -178%) Malangen |
25/1(-178%) | (6) Malangen 25/1, Successful at Hexham (16.2f, good) in June and has been kept busy of late, putting in a good shift when runner-up at Ayr on penultimate start. Perhaps 3m stretched him at Musselburgh since and merits respect back at this trip. Nine-time hurdle winner who sometimes blasts off in front; unreliable, but not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (18/1 +0%) Coniston Clouds |
18/1(+0%) | (1) Coniston Clouds 18/1, Resumes in this sphere on a competitive mark following a couple of no-shows over fences and, if reverting to the smaller obstacles has a positive effect, he could have a say in the finish. Pulled up in last two chases and now reverts to hurdling; others have less to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (4) (100/1 -150%) Watch Law |
100/1(-150%) | (4) Watch Law 100/1, Dual point winner but yet to trouble the judge following half-a-dozen appearances under Rules and he's hard to warm to. A well-beaten outsider in two handicap hurdles last month; difficult to enthuse over. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (17/2 +15%) Master Bricklayer |
17/2(+15%) | (5) Master Bricklayer 17/2, Predictably stepped up on his maiden/novice form upped to this trip in handicaps at Ayr and Perth on final 2 starts of last season. It's early days for this 6-y-o and he needs a second look with the possibility of better to come. Second on handicap debut in March; off since April but probably still has potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (28/1 -331%) Penpal |
28/1(-331%) | (11) Penpal 28/1, Ready winner of a handicap here on his sole run of 2023. Ran poorly back from a break at Kelso in January but, following another 4 months off, he returned to form when runner-up at Sedgefield (16.8f, good) during the spring. Shortlisted. Course winner in 2023; absent since Sedgefield second in May but can go well fresh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (33/1 +34%) Ebendi |
33/1(+34%) | (14) Ebendi 33/1, Fairly useful Flat performer for Joseph O'Brien and has some decent bits and pieces of hurdles form to his name. However, he ran no sort of a race tried in first-time cheekpieces (retained) here last month and record in this sphere now stands at 0-13. Regressive 7yo who returned from a break with two very disappointing runs last month. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Glory Hights stayed on well to win at Carlisle last month and is expected to be thereabouts again, although a 4lb rise makes life a little tougher. With that in mind, it could be worth chancing PENPAL, who is 1-2 at the track and performed well for the silver medal when last sighted at Sedgefield. He goes well fresh before and ticks plenty of boxes. Throw Agilulf into the mix as well.
A first win over hurdles could be on the cards for GINGER POINTE, who rather caught the eye when staying on into fifth back in this sphere at Sedgefield where he travelled as well as anything else for much of the journey. Glory Hights is an obvious danger having raised his game when getting off the mark at Carlisle. Penpal is third choice ahead of Paddy O'Mahler.
The pick is GINGER POINTE, who has done pretty well over fences for his new stable this season and ran okay over hurdles last month.

1st (6) (18/1 +18%) Giveupyerauldsins |
18/1(+18%) | (6) Giveupyerauldsins 18/1, Maiden Irish pointer who has been well held in a pair of maiden hurdles. Moderate point form and no real promise in novice hurdles; needs significant step forward. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (2/7 +43%) Tommys Law |
2/7(+43%) | (3) Tommys Law 2/7, Placed in points and is proving consistent over hurdles, runner-up on 5 of 6 starts. Sets a clear standard. Runner-up five times over hurdles; has much the best form and ought to get off the mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/1 -33%) Express Run |
6/1(-33%) | (1) Express Run 6/1, Failed to justify support when down the field only start in bumpers but showed more of what he's about when second of 9 in a novice at Wetherby (19.7f, good) on hurdles bow. Ran to a similar level when third at Hexham since, though again wasn't especially fluent in the jumping department. Placed both hurdles starts, third at Hexham on second occasion; unlikely to be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (15/2 -88%) Devon Skies |
15/2(-88%) | (5) Devon Skies 15/2, Well held in 2 bumpers but offered more when fourth in a Sedgefield maiden (16.8f) on hurdling debut. Similar form both starts since and this further step up in trip seems sure to suit. Beaten favourite at Sedgefield last time but still has a chance in this uncompetitive race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (80/1 -21%) Whispering Dancer |
80/1(-21%) | (4) Whispering Dancer 80/1, Took 6 attempts to get off the mark in Irish points and was well held on recent hurdling debut at Carlisle. 1-6 in points; didn't show much on rules debut when well held in Carlisle novice hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (66/1 0%) Nae Bother At A' |
66/1(0%) | (2) Nae Bother At A' 66/1, Has shown little in bumpers/maiden hurdles. Easily passed over. Well beaten all starts, including at Kelso (100-1) on reappearance; hard to fancy. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
TOMMYS LAW is clear of these on official ratings and ought to take plenty of beating. He has finished second behind some nice types, particularly at Perth in September, and isn't going to get many better opportunities than this to strike over hurdles. He should have too many gears for Express Run and Devon Skies, who can fight it out for the silver medal.
TOMMY'S LAW is proving most consistent over hurdles and can make the most of what looks an excellent opening. Devon Skies is preferred to Empress Run for forecast purposes.
While TOMMYS LAW's string of second places is a slight cause for concern, he's still very much the one to beat.

1st (5) (13/8 -9%) It's All About You |
13/8(-9%) | (5) It's All About You 13/8, Fairly useful handicapper on Flat, winning at Ayr (13f) and Ffos Las (2m) in the summer. Starts out over hurdles with his yard in form. Likely to have a big say it taking to his new discipline. Ended late Flat campaign with 1m5f and 2m wins; market can guide regarding expectations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (100/1 -100%) Authorized Mission |
100/1(-100%) | (1) Authorized Mission 100/1, Poor form in 2 maiden hurdles last month and surely more one for handicaps after this. Minor bumper promise but nothing of note in two maiden hurdles; handicaps more likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (11/10 +41%) Knomorediamonds |
11/10(+41%) | (6) Knomorediamonds 11/10, Fair form over hurdles, reaching the frame in 17f handicaps at Carlisle this autumn. Bold show likely. Has plenty of experience to call on and some solid efforts in defeat; not far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (14/1 -75%) Susiesparkle |
14/1(-75%) | (11) Susiesparkle 14/1, Fair 1½m Flat winner. Showed an aptitude for hurdling when 25 lengths third of 8 in maiden at Musselburgh 15 days ago. May do better. Winning yard debut on Flat (1m4f) in September; tough hurdle debut but creditable 3rd. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (7/1 +65%) Diamond Mix |
7/1(+65%) | (2) Diamond Mix 7/1, No real impact in bumpers 7 months apart and finished a well-held fourth on 19f Carlisle hurdle debut 13 days ago. Looks more one for the longer term. Improved on modest bumper form when 4th on hurdle debut at Carlisle; can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (150/1 +0%) Foreva Alfie |
150/1(+0%) | (3) Foreva Alfie 150/1, Hinted at ability in a bumper for Rose Dobbin in 2022 but not seen again until pulling up in Carlisle novice hurdle 13 days ago. Early promise on bumper debut in 2022 but pulled up this month when back from absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (20/1 +60%) She's Got Bottle |
20/1(+60%) | (10) She's Got Bottle 20/1, Fair Flat winner but made an inauspicious start over hurdles at Sedgefield recently. Has a hood added now. Five Flat wins at up to 1m2f but tailed off on hurdle debut and now goes in a hood. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (9/1 +10%) Gone With The Tide |
9/1(+10%) | (4) Gone With The Tide 9/1, Irish point winner who showed a bit when fifth of 7 on his 2m Ayr hurdle debut but probably won't really come into his own until tackling longer trips. Irish point winner; quite promising 5th to talented winner on hurdle debut; can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (8) (100/1 -203%) Midnight Phantom |
100/1(-203%) | (8) Midnight Phantom 100/1, 14/1, last of 14 in bumper at Wetherby in February 2023. Not seen since (has had wind surgery). 14-1 for Wetherby bumper in early 2023 when dropping right out out; likely to need this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (100/1 -525%) Marquee Lights |
100/1(-525%) | (7) Marquee Lights 100/1, £17,000 Sholokhov half-brother to 4 winners. The betting should help guide to expectations on this rather belated debut. £17,000 3yo; refused to line up on intended debut this month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (125/1 -942%) Remarkable Force |
125/1(-942%) | (9) Remarkable Force 125/1, Fairly useful handicapper at best on Flat (stays 7f), no show last time on first start for yard after 5 months off. Stamina has to be a worry now hurdling. Two Flat wins at 5f in 2022; fair 7f AW form last winter; stamina tested on hurdle debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Jennie Candlish is enjoying plenty of winners in this sphere this season and IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU, a three-time winner on the Flat, could be worth chancing on his hurdles bow. His connections have found him a really good opening first time up and he boasts sound claims under a 5lb claimer. Knomorediamonds doesn't set a very high standard, but is the main danger boasting a rating of 107. Keep an eye on Remarkable Force too.
If IT'S ALL ABOUT YOU takes to hurdling at the first time of asking he may have a bit too much speed for Lucinda Russell's Knomorediamonds. Susiesparkle may prove best of the remainder in a race where it's hard to be positive about the prospects of many.
All things being equal, Irish point winner GONE WITH THE TIDE should improve on his hurdle debut fifth at Ayr at this realistic level.

1st (3) (5/6 +39%) Chemical Warfare |
5/6(+39%) | (3) Chemical Warfare 5/6, Most progressive for this yard this season, winning for the fifth time over C&D in October. Shaped as if still in good form from a 7 lb higher mark at Wetherby since (clipped heels/stumbled entering straight) and can regain the winning thread dropped 1 lb. Five wins since June, including C&D; excuse latest and taken to get his head back in front. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (3/1 -20%) Nothin To Ask |
3/1(-20%) | (1) Nothin To Ask 3/1, Fairly useful handicap hurdler/winning chaser who showed the benefit of his Chepstow run without shaping well enough to think his losing run is about to end when third at Leicester (22.7f, good to firm) last month. Handicapper relinquishes his grip further. Has a bit of class for this grade but has done his winning over shorter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (12/1 -41%) Carrigeen Castle |
12/1(-41%) | (2) Carrigeen Castle 12/1, Much improved sent chasing last season, landing handicaps at this course and Wetherby (2). Hails from a yard struggling for form and was always behind on his return from 7 months off at Bangor recently. Probably best watched for now. Three wins on soft last winter but lost way in spring and well held on reappearance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (5/1 +29%) Basford |
5/1(+29%) | (4) Basford 5/1, Scored 3 times over hurdles in summer 2023 at up to 3m. Went the wrong way from a mildly encouraging comeback run when tailed-off last of 6 at Hereford (25.5f, good to soft) back in May and more needed now sent chasing. Cheekpieces back on. Three hurdle wins; below par in spring but back from break with yard in form; chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (14/1 -40%) Overcourt |
14/1(-40%) | (5) Overcourt 14/1, Dual hurdles winner for Sandy Thomson who made the frame on his first 5 starts over fences, off 22 months ahead of joining this yard last season. However, he completely lost his form and will need to hit the ground running on return (handicapper has dropped him another 6 lb). Had lost way when last seen in February but good record fresh provides hope for revival. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
CHEMICAL WARFARE's winning spree came to an end at Wetherby, with the handicapper seemingly catching up with him. However, his case wasn't helped by a stumble when the race began to warm up and he comes up against a bunch of largely out-of-form opponents. Nothin To Ask hasn't made too much of an impact this time in, but his mark is coming down and he may capitalise sooner rather than later. This is Basford's first crack at the larger obstacles so there is a chance he could improve.
CHEMICAL WARFARE has been most progressive this season and, having shaped as if still in good order at Wetherby last month, David Pipe's 7-y-o can notch victory number 6 of the campaign at the expense of Nothin To Ask, who showed the benefit of his Chepstow run last time and the handicapper continues to relinquish his grip. Chasing-debutant Basford rounds off the shortlist.
Having had a possible excuse at Wetherby CHEMICAL WARFARE (nap) is taken to bounce back and land a sixth win of the campaign.

1st (10) (18/1 -80%) Mister Smarty |
18/1(-80%) | (10) Mister Smarty 18/1, Showed little in bumpers/novice hurdles and finished last on handicap debut in January. Caught the eye with a much improved effort over C&D (heavy) in February. Off since then, but capable of being involved if ready to go on his return. Second run in a handicap when keeping on for fourth over C&D (heavy) in February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (25/1 0%) She's A Rocca |
25/1(0%) | (6) She's A Rocca 25/1, C&D winner. Better effort when seventh of 10 in handicap hurdle at Perth (23.9f, good) 119 days ago. Disappointed at same venue in August and something to prove now returning off 119 day absence. Out of sorts since winning in first-time cheekpieces at Southwell in October last year. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (12/1 +64%) Mr Mahler |
12/1(+64%) | (5) Mr Mahler 12/1, Showed ability on hurdles debut over C&D but has proved disappointing switched to handicaps, latest effort when well beaten at Southwell 11 days ago following 7-month break. Needs to improve markedly on that but does return to the scene of his best run so far. 40-1 when tailed off in a Sedgefield handicap only 11 days ago; in a poor run of form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (5/1 -43%) Balranald |
5/1(-43%) | (8) Balranald 5/1, Landed a brace of 2m handicap wins in October, the latter over C&D. Up 4 lb for that effort when far from disgraced upped in trip at Ayr 31 days ago. Back down in distance today and a big player back at the scene of his most recent victory. Exposed but in form and made the frame off this mark at Ayr a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (7/2 +65%) Kingston Rock |
7/2(+65%) | (9) Kingston Rock 7/2, Maiden (previously with Susan Corbett yard) who shaped with some promise on debut for new connections, finishing fifth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Carlisle (19.3f, soft) 13 days ago. Chance if able to build on that. No wins in 11 and beaten fair and square in his latest handicap at Carlisle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (11/2 +39%) La Quarite |
11/2(+39%) | (4) La Quarite 11/2, Remains winless but made an encouraging start for his new yard after 6 months off (formerly with Iain Jardine) when sixth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Newcastle (16.9f, good) in October. Failed to build on that when too keen at Sedgefield 18 days ago. Has shown ability and could have settled better last time at Sedgefield when only 7-1. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (9/2 +25%) Jet Patrol |
9/2(+25%) | (2) Jet Patrol 9/2, Headstrong sort who made the frame in a maiden/novice last winter. Offered little on return from 4-month break at Kelso in October but was in the process of running a much better race when falling at Musselburgh (15.6f, good to soft, 15/2) 15 days ago. Regular jockey back in saddle and chances here. Would probably have been second in a maiden last time but for coming down late on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) (80/1 -60%) Solway Staree |
80/1(-60%) | (12) Solway Staree 80/1, Disappointing sort who continues to show little, passed beaten horses when fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (16.8f, good, 66/1) 30 days ago but faces an uphill task here from out of the weights. Struggled to get seriously competitive in six handicaps and she's again out of the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (11/2 +61%) Bravethewaves |
11/2(+61%) | (7) Bravethewaves 11/2, Disappointing maiden. Failed to land a blow when well beaten at Carlisle over this trip last month, Represents a good yard but needs to improve on bare form shown. Well handicapped but has finished tailed off in both his runs following a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (10/1 -43%) Blow A Fortune |
10/1(-43%) | (3) Blow A Fortune 10/1, Bred to stay well and delivered career best performance on third hurdles start at Ayr 31 days ago (16f, good to soft), Cheekpieces applied for handicap bow and should be able to make an impact in this sphere. Improved run to finish a boxing-on fourth in a 2m novice at Ayr a month ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (14/1 -250%) Kally Des Bruyeres |
14/1(-250%) | (1) Kally Des Bruyeres 14/1, Showed little in a bumper and 2 hurdle runs before causing major upset (200/1) when winning 11-runner novice hurdle at Huntingdon (15.8f, good) 41 days ago. Lightly raced and entitled to build on that. 200-1 winner of a good-ground maiden and he's an unexposed handicap debutant. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (100/1 -614%) Foshan |
100/1(-614%) | (11) Foshan 100/1, Maiden but ran career best over hurdles when racing from out of the weights at Sedgefield 18 days ago (brought down at last when in fourth and held). Tackles the same trip today but wrong at the weights again and needs to improve to win this. Ran okay at Sedgefield last time but was on the retreat when falling; 6lb wrong. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Kally Des Bruyeres sprung a massive shock when leaving his previous form a long way behind to break through at Huntingdon. He has claims if performing to that level again but a safer option is probably BALRANALD, who failed in the hat-trick bid at Ayr and is perhaps better suited by this shorter trip. Blow A Fortune took a step in the right direction when fourth at Ayr and is worth a look on her handicap debut.
BALRANALD was unable to land the hat-trick last time out but he still ran with credit, and he is taken to resume winning ways at a course where he has previously tasted victory. The main danger could be Blow A Fortune who looks unexposed with cheekpieces applied for her handicap debut. Jet Patrol was in the process of running an encouraging race at Newcastle before falling at the last, and he's interesting with Ryan Mania back in the plate.
If JET PATROL can remain on his feet then he could be better handicapped than many of these.

1st (6) (3/1 +45%) Watchoutitscookie |
3/1(+45%) | (6) Watchoutitscookie 3/1, Hurdles winner who ran best race to date in this sphere when third at Perth (23.8f) in May, leaving the impression he should have finished closer. May of needed first start for 6 months when fifth of 7 in handicap chase at Ludlow (23.8f) 19 days ago and not discounted. Might be fitter for Ludlow run and returning to positive tactics could help. |

2nd (7) (11/1 +31%) Ideal De Romay |
11/1(+31%) | (7) Ideal De Romay 11/1, Irish point winner who is winless under Rules but he did shape better than on yard debut when eighth of 9 in handicap hurdle at Carlisle (24.6f) 25 days ago, travelling well for a long way. Needs to build on that returned to larger obstacles. 2 lb "wrong" at the weights. Stable debut wasn't a bad run and 7lb out of the weights last time; 2lb wrong here. |

3rd (3) (7/2 +13%) Lepashe |
7/2(+13%) | (3) Lepashe 7/2, Offered more than previously over fences when third of 8 in handicap chase at Uttoxeter (3m) in October. Jumping let him down at Southwell 4 weeks ago though, and cheekpieces go back on now. 0-14 under rules (0-5 chasing) and will need to jump better than at Southwell last time. |

4th (1) (10/3 -67%) Ballynaheer |
10/3(-67%) | (1) Ballynaheer 10/3, A fair 2m4f winner over hurdles who made a bright start over fences with placed efforts at Uttoxeter/Wincanton in October. Shade disappointing when fifth of 8 in handicap chase at Hereford (25.2f) 32 days ago but definite player on previous exploits. Ran well in his first two chases and there were feasible excuses at Hereford last time. |

5th (2) (8/1 -60%) Boolamore Classic |
8/1(-60%) | (2) Boolamore Classic 8/1, Second on completed start in points. Well held completed starts over hurdles however, including after 6 months off when eleventh of 12 in handicap hurdle (10/3) at Hexham (23.3f, good to soft) 36 days ago. Switch to chasing needs to bring about improvement. Modest form over hurdles and finished tailed off in two handicaps with cheekpieces tried. |

|U| (4) (18/1 -80%) Blue Plan |
18/1(-80%) | (4) Blue Plan 18/1, 5-y-o gelding who has offered little all 4 starts in novice/maiden hurdles and big leap forward required for switch to chasing if he's to figure on handicap bow. Shown precious little but at least lightly raced and soon goes chasing for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (9/2 +18%) Just Jess |
9/2(+18%) | (5) Just Jess 9/2, On a lengthy losing run but feasible to think he needed first start for 7 months when fourth of 6 in handicap chase (16/1) at Southwell (24.3f, good) 18 days ago. Operating from a basement mark if he can build on that effort. Stuck in a bit of a rut and her latest fourth at Southwell amounts to little. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
This will not take much winning and a chance can be taken on BLUE PLAN. Rebecca Menzies' gelding didn't show much over hurdles, but connections have wasted no time in sending him over fences so it would come as no surprise were he to improve. Ballynaheer had excuses at Hereford last month and is a leading contender off 1lb lower, while Lepashe heads the remainder.
BALLYNAHEER needs to shrug off a lesser effort at Hereford 32 days ago but each of his 2 previous chase efforts had contained definite promise and he's worth another chance to get back on the up. Chase debutant Boolamore Classic and Watchoutitscookie are a couple of others to consider in a race where most have something to prove.
A dangerous race as none of these ran well last time. BALLYNAHEER did at least have some excuses and his two previous runs were okay.

1st (1) (5/4 +17%) Bespoke Tailor |
5/4(+17%) | (1) Bespoke Tailor 5/4, Malinas gelding who has found one too strong on both starts in bumpers so far, beaten much further than on debut 6 months earlier but still probably running to a similar level at Ayr (16f, good to soft) 47 days ago. Has found a good opportunity to open his account here. Second at Perth and Ayr and sets the standard on rules form. |

2nd (9) (13/2 +0%) The Clonmel Kid |
13/2(+0%) | (9) The Clonmel Kid 13/2, €10,000 3-y-o, £12,000 5-y-o, Youmzain gelding. Half-brother to 19f bumper winner/fairly useful 17f hurdle winner Ciandarragh. Maiden Irish pointer, third last time (May 11). 0-4 in Irish points, finishing third on latest start in May; may improve for stable switch. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (12/1 +40%) Fast Work |
12/1(+40%) | (4) Fast Work 12/1, Workforce gelding who looked green when seventh of 10 in bumper at Uttoxeter (15.8f, good to soft) on debut 6 weeks ago, outpaced from 3f out. Needs to build on that. Just a glimmer of promise when seventh at Uttoxeter six weeks ago but should improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (15/2 +38%) Little Roger |
15/2(+38%) | (6) Little Roger 15/2, Blue Bresil gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including useful hurdler/very smart chaser Nuts Well and useful hurdler/smart chaser Runswick Royal. Likely to need more time. Half-brother to smart winners Nuts Well and Runswick Royal; interesting newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (5/1 +9%) Blakey Boy |
5/1(+9%) | (2) Blakey Boy 5/1, Dam unraced from family of Grand National winner Rule The World and smart staying hurdler Venalmar. Something to work on when third at Hexham on debut 174 days ago and can improve if ready to go. Some promise when third of nine at Hexham in June; improvement needed but possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (7/1 -27%) Gonnino |
7/1(-27%) | (5) Gonnino 7/1, Out of a bumper winner and started in mildly encouraging fashion when third at Kelso last month. More to come and likely to be on the premises. Looked green when third on debut at Kelso; should have benefited from the experience. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (22/1 -57%) Timely Approach |
22/1(-57%) | (10) Timely Approach 22/1, 7,500 gns 4-y-o, Dubawi gelding. Brother to 1¼m winner in Saudi Arabia Thundersquall. Dam winner up to 1½m, including Irish 1000 Guineas and Yorkshire Oaks. Notable Flat pedigree. Bred by Godolphin (dam won Irish 1,000 Guineas and Yorkshire Oaks); fascinating newcomer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (28/1 -133%) Retreat Archie |
28/1(-133%) | (7) Retreat Archie 28/1, €12,000 3-y-o, Lucky Speed gelding. Half-brother to modest hurdler/poor chaser Court Adjourned. Dam ran twice over hurdles. Wears tongue strap. Betting should guide. Held when unseating rider at last in Irish point in April; probably best watched. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (50/1 -25%) Seeyainthesuninn |
50/1(-25%) | (8) Seeyainthesuninn 50/1, Half-brother to numerous winners, including bumper winner/useful hurdler Zulu Oscar. Not enough on both runs to date to make him of interest in this. Hasn't beaten many rivals in races at Market Rasen and Sedgefield; others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (33/1 -83%) Elusive Warrior |
33/1(-83%) | (3) Elusive Warrior 33/1, From a good family but failed to beat a rival at Ayr first time out and looks up against it again. Tailed-off last of seven on debut at Ayr in October; difficult to recommend. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BESPOKE TAILOR bumped into a progressive rival at Perth on his racecourse debut before finishing second to an impressive winner at Ayr on his return in October. This appears to be an excellent opportunity for Ewan Whillans' gelding to go one better, and he could saddle the 1-2 with Blakey Boy, who shaped with encouragement on his first start at Hexham in June. Gonnino is another solid contender with improvement forthcoming.
BESPOKE TAILOR has been runner-up on both starts to date but this looks easier and he's worth a chance to open his account at the possible expense of stablemate Blakey Boy. Gonnino is also considered and Little Roger is probably the pick of the debutants.
The newcomers Little Roger and TIMELY APPROACH make a fair amount of appeal on pedigree, with preference for the latter.
Ths is the racecard key.
