1st (4) (2.25/1 +25%) Special Rate |
2.25/1(+25%) | (4) Special Rate 2.25/1, Showed more than he had in bumpers switched to hurdling when second in 14-runner novice at Kelso (18.1f) 29 days ago, staying on. Leading player. Creditable second to progressive rival on recent hurdle debut and should build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4.5/1 +44%) Five Dollar Fine |
4.5/1(+44%) | (2) Five Dollar Fine 4.5/1, Modest hurdler. Creditable fifth of 15 in handicap hurdle at Hexham (20.1f, soft, 11/2) 22 days ago. More needed back in novice company. Placed twice over 2m4f here in winter and recent handicap form is respectable; e-w claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (66/1 -32%) Monty Nevett |
66/1(-32%) | (6) Monty Nevett 66/1, Unplaced in bumpers but showed a bit when seventh of 14 on hurdling debut at Kelso 29 days ago. Made fairly encouraging hurdle debut last month but is not the obvious answer here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (0.8/1 -51%) Quaresome |
0.8/1(-51%) | (1) Quaresome 0.8/1, Hooded when 28/1 winner of 10-runner bumper at Roscommon on debut in September for Kieran Purcell. Changed hands for £85,000 and followed up with the hood left off on Musselburgh hurdling debut (17.4f) 53 days ago, forging clear. Sure to progress and win more races. Drew clear to win comfortably on hurdle debut at Musselburgh; the one to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (14/1 +22%) Summergrounds |
14/1(+22%) | (5) Summergrounds 14/1, Showed fair form when in the frame on all 3 starts in bumpers but looks more one for handicaps in this sphere over further after this run. Has made low-key start to his hurdling career but bumper form suggests he can do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (28/1 -56%) Nab Wood |
28/1(-56%) | (3) Nab Wood 28/1, Court Cave gelding. Dam winning pointer/ran once over fences. Doesn't make a great deal of appeal on paper but is in good hands. With good stable but his pedigree doesn't exactly leap off the page; best watched on debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (66/1 -32%) Rouse |
66/1(-32%) | (7) Rouse 66/1, Poor in bumpers and was behind when falling 2 out on hurdling debut at Sedgefield. Showed minor promise in bumpers but was well beaten when falling on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (250/1 -150%) Garswood Lady |
250/1(-150%) | (8) Garswood Lady 250/1, Well held in a brace of bumpers and tailed off in minor events/handicap on Flat. Tongue tied for hurdling debut and easy to look elsewhere. Has struggled in bumpers and on the Flat; makes no appeal on hurdling debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
QUARESOME remains unbeaten and made a winning debut for connections when scoring at Musselburgh in March. The son of Parish Hall has to carry a 7lb penalty for that success but he looks capable of defying that. Special Rate filled the runner-up spot on his most recent outing and could do so once again, while Five Dollar Fine and Summergrounds complete the shortlist.
There's surely more to come from QUARESOME, who didn't look the finished article when forging clear on his Musselburgh hurdling/stable debut, so he's taken to defy a penalty. Special Rate looks the obvious threat following an improved effort on his hurdling debut at Kelso. Five Dollar Fine may prove best of the rest.
This can go to QUARESOME, who was nicely in command in the closing stages of his hurdling debut at Musselburgh in March.

Da Vinci Hand |
(3) (18/1 -29%)18/1(-29%) | (3) Da Vinci Hand 18/1, Failed to trouble the judge in 5 outings last season and a recent wind operation needs to have had a positive effect. Never really got going last season; needs wind op to enable a revival. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (12) (3/1 +50%) Chemical Warfare |
3/1(+50%) | (12) Chemical Warfare 3/1, Good second over C&D in January. Disappointing at Sedgefield next time but latest fifth of 14 over hurdles at Southwell was creditable. 0-13 but has claims if judged on C&D second to well-handicapped rival in January. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (16/1 -60%) Getaway Jewel |
16/1(-60%) | (7) Getaway Jewel 16/1, Landed a Market Rasen double (both 17f) under Brian Hughes last summer. Not at best in 2 comeback runs this spring but was better than the result last time and Brian Hughes is back in the saddle now. One of the more likely types. Did pretty well in 2022 but comes here after two 27l defeats this spring. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (22/1 -120%) Gouet Des Bruyeres |
22/1(-120%) | (1) Gouet Des Bruyeres 22/1, Had a bit up his sleeve when taking advantage of a drop in the weights over 2m at Southwell in September. Given a break since a lesser run at Fakenham in November and capable of bouncing back. Respected. Good winner in September but absent since a lesser effort the following month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (12/1 -50%) Six One Nine |
12/1(-50%) | (9) Six One Nine 12/1, Consistent type who was runner-up twice over C&D during the winter. Contender if turning up from a 3-month break in similar form. Won over C&D in 2022 and was second over C&D on final two starts last season; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (11) (14/1 +0%) Budarri |
14/1(+0%) | (11) Budarri 14/1, Scored at Musselburgh in February and creditable in-frame efforts since. Another who can't be discounted. Gave good account before weakening into fourth at Hexham recently; each-way claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (11/1 -10%) Check My Pulse |
11/1(-10%) | (4) Check My Pulse 11/1, Finally got off the mark over fences in 7-runner handicap chase at Carlisle (2m) in October. Not in the same form at Catterick the following month. Freshened up since. Not at best on latest start in November but form of Carlisle win in October reads well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (10/1 -54%) Zara's Universe |
10/1(-54%) | (10) Zara's Universe 10/1, Arrives on a hat-trick after wins at Market Rasen and Sedgefield in recent months. Likely to give another good account. 2-4 over fences after last month's heavy-ground success; latest 5lb rise demands more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (13) (9/1 +36%) Kicksaftersix |
9/1(+36%) | (13) Kicksaftersix 9/1, Fair form in bumpers for Warren Greatrex but little form over jumps, including when attracting support on chase bow at Hexham in November. Has since had wind op. 6 lb out of the handicap. Ran well for a long way on chasing debut but was tired and well held in the end. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (28/1 -100%) Tico Times |
28/1(-100%) | (2) Tico Times 28/1, Won a trio of handicaps during second half of 2022 for Dianne Sayer but hasn't fired since Sedgefield second in October. Back on a good mark but need to see more. Has become well handicapped and is of interest now back on a quicker surface. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (8) (5.5/1 +21%) Fourth Of July |
5.5/1(+21%) | (8) Fourth Of July 5.5/1, It's now 18 runs since his last win in 2021 but he has recorded good placed efforts over C&D and at Hexham on his last 2 outings. Likely to be in the shake-up again. Hasn't win since 2021 but ran big race in defeat at Hexham three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (10/1 +0%) Rockonsoph |
10/1(+0%) | (6) Rockonsoph 10/1, Ran poorly in Perth handicap hurdle last month but had run well when second at Ayr prior to that and a point background provides hope that she'll take to fences. 0-5 over hurdles but this Irish point winner still makes appeal on her chasing debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (6.5/1 +35%) Fearless Action |
6.5/1(+35%) | (5) Fearless Action 6.5/1, Solid efforts when in the frame at Sedgefield on all 3 chase starts. Ought to be competitive with Conor Rabbitt taking 7 lb off. Respectable fourth on heavy ground last time; this quicker surface may suit better. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ZARA'S UNIVERSE arrives here on the back of two victories in recent months and a 5lb rise the latest of those wins may not be enough to stop her from making it a hat-trick. Six One Nine has been knocking on the door on his most recent outings and should not be underestimated on his return from a short break. Others to note are Budarri and Check My Pulse.
The suggestion in a very open race is GETAWAY JEWEL now reunited with Brian Hughes, who was on board for both his wins last summer. Fourth of July, Six One Nine and the hat-trick seeking Zara's Universe head the many dangers.
The pick is TICO TIMES, who struggled to cope with heavy ground in his last two races but will be better suited by today's conditions.

1st (3) (5/1 -25%) Our Laura B |
5/1(-25%) | (3) Our Laura B 5/1, Reached the frame in a couple of novice hurdles at Sedgefield before making successful switch to handicap company over C&D in March. Just touched off at Ludlow (good to soft) next time and likely to be in the thick of things once more. Stylish C&D winner on handicap debut in March and went very close at Ludlow last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (4/1 +33%) Emily Wade |
4/1(+33%) | (8) Emily Wade 4/1, Just modest form at best in bumpers (for Tjade Collier) but confirmed promise of handicap debut in this sphere when scoring at Southwell (20.4f, soft) in March. Creditable second off 5 lb higher at Carlisle (17f, soft) since (nudged up a further 2 lb for that) and she's a key player back up in trip. Backed up her breakthrough win in March with a good effort in defeat last month; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (3.33/1 +52%) Starlyte |
3.33/1(+52%) | (2) Starlyte 3.33/1, Made a winning return to hurdles for new yard over C&D in November. Largely respectable efforts in defeat since and now 2 lb below that winning mark, so she needs considering with conditions in her favour. Not running badly this year, and now 2lb lower than when scoring over C&D in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (20/1 -122%) Theirshegoes |
20/1(-122%) | (5) Theirshegoes 20/1, Signs of promise sole start in bumpers and similar story when fifth of 9 on second of 3 starts in novice company. Raised her game when third on handicap debut upped to 3m at Perth (good to soft) last month but she was rather wayward under pressure and this demands another step forward. Placed on recent handicap debut and may have a bigger run in her on this left-handed track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (18/1 -100%) Lady Mendoza |
18/1(-100%) | (4) Lady Mendoza 18/1, Won completed start in Irish points during the spring and positive start under Rules when second in a C&D novice event (soft) in November. However, no show both subsequent starts and needs to bounce back in a major way with cheekpieces added for this handicap bow. Second over C&D on rules debut but two disappointing runs have followed; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (12/1 +52%) Maisie Too |
12/1(+52%) | (11) Maisie Too 12/1, Modest form in a quartet of bumpers and comfortably held in 3 novice hurdles. Beaten when unseating 2 out on recent handicap debut at Perth in first-time cheekpieces (retained here) and looks set for another struggle. Well held when unseating rider on handicap debut; significant improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (9/1 +44%) Dot Cotton |
9/1(+44%) | (7) Dot Cotton 9/1, Fair ex-Irish maiden but she hasn't pulled up any trees in half-a-dozen starts for present yard. Mark continues on the slide but likely to come up short once again in any case. Not beaten far at Perth last month but is 0-11 now; others have more appealing profiles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (5/1 +9%) Toughasoldboots |
5/1(+9%) | (6) Toughasoldboots 5/1, Wide-margin maiden winner last spring and doubled her tally returned to this sphere at Carlisle (17f, soft) in March. Did well under the circumstances that day (race wasn't run to suit) and she has to be high on the shortlist up just 2 lb. Game winner last time out, and this different trip-and-ground combination will also suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (12/1 +0%) Martalindy |
12/1(+0%) | (1) Martalindy 12/1, Caused a huge surprise when a 50/1 winner of a 4-runner mares' maiden at Huntingdon in October. Held back by several mistakes when second of 3 back there later that month, though, and failed to improve back from a break on handicap debut at Perth (20.2f, good to soft) last month. Shock winner of small-field maiden in October; recent handicap debut was respectable. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (18/1 +28%) Fllana Bay |
18/1(+28%) | (13) Fllana Bay 18/1, Has hinted at ability on a couple of occasions but not so when returning from a break in this headgear combination at Perth (16.2f, good to soft) last month. Jolt of improvement needed back up in trip for this handicap debut. 0-7 over hurdles and makes only limited appeal on today's handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (25/1 +0%) Celestial Fashion |
25/1(+0%) | (12) Celestial Fashion 25/1, First piece of worthwhile form over hurdles when returning from wind surgery to finish second of 12 on 17f Carlisle handicap debut 3 starts back. However, no show over this C&D and at Perth since, and she will need to learn to settle if she's to build on the promise of her Carlisle effort. 50-1 second on handicap debut in March but suffered two heavy defeats last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (14) (200/1 -700%) National Charter |
200/1(-700%) | (14) National Charter 200/1, Fair maiden on Flat (stays 1¾m) but has made no impact in 4 starts over hurdles so far and she's 6 lb 'wrong' at the weights now pitched into a handicap in this sphere. Has shown only glimmers of promise over hurdles but was placed on the Flat last spring. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
OUR LAURA B gave a good account off top-weight when denied by a nose at Ludlow last time out and may go one better in this contest. The in-form five-year-old has only been handed a 1lb rise for that effort and gets the nod to record a second win over course and distance. Starlyte failed to justify favouritism in deeper waters on her latest outing but rates the most immediate now eased in grade, while Theirshegoes is another to consider.
Though some of her rivals arrive here in better form, STARLYTE is very much of interest now returned to the scene of her decisive front-running display on debut for Lucinda Russell in November (off a 2 lb higher mark). She has generally acquitted herself well in slightly higher-grade handicaps since and the drying ground will be right up her street. Fellow C&D winner Our Laura B is greatly respected in current form, while Toughasoldboots and Emily Wade are others with strong credentials.
C&D winner OUR LAURA B was nudged up only 1lb for her very close second at Ludlow last month and probably still has potential.

1st (1) (5.5/1 -10%) Marshalled |
5.5/1(-10%) | (1) Marshalled 5.5/1, Winning hurdler/chaser in Ireland and best effort for this yard when running into a place at Sedgefield (21f, heavy) last month, his jumping still not without blemish. Off the same mark back on better ground here and respected. Ex-Irish; fair runs on last 2 starts despite jumping errors; good ground ideal; a possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (3.33/1 +33%) Limerick Leader |
3.33/1(+33%) | (7) Limerick Leader 3.33/1, Fair hurdles winner who remains with untapped potential over fences. Interesting with promising conditional taking over. Better of two runs over fences when third at Musselburgh in January; not so good next time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (9) (1.5/1 +33%) Ribeye |
1.5/1(+33%) | (9) Ribeye 1.5/1, Has made a cracking start over fences, value for extra as he came clear in Hexham handicap over this trip 10 days ago (in control when rider lost irons flat, found plenty). More to come and sure to go close again. 2-3 over fences, latest win at Hexham last week; up in grade but should go well again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (12/1 -33%) Luckofthedraw |
12/1(-33%) | (2) Luckofthedraw 12/1, Back to winning ways at Huntingdon (19.9f, 3 runners) in March but run of good form came to an end at Southwell last time. More needed. Won 3-runner chase in March; not run quite so well since; ground suits but a bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (4.5/1 +10%) Croagh Patrick |
4.5/1(+10%) | (8) Croagh Patrick 4.5/1, Back-to-back winner over fences in March 2022 and has returned to form of late, seeing things out surprisingly well considering he again took a notably strong hold when second at Haydock last time. Could figure. Not won since March 2022; series of good runs since, including last time; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (50/1 -178%) Big Difference |
50/1(-178%) | (4) Big Difference 50/1, Won a couple of small-field handicap chases last season but lost his form and might need this after 5 months off. Has the ground in his favour and effective at 2m4f but may need the run after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (18/1 -112%) Joke Dancer |
18/1(-112%) | (5) Joke Dancer 18/1, Has enjoyed plenty of success, though a while since he ran to his best. Very well handicapped if finding his mojo again but is unproven over this far. Kelso winner last May; disappointing since, but now 16lb lower; yet to win at beyond 2m1f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (33/1 -136%) Ice Coast |
33/1(-136%) | (6) Ice Coast 33/1, Showed fair form on both starts in France but yet to fire for current stable, running a moody race on chase debut when last seen in January. Has had a breathing operation. Ex-French; pulled up on chase debut; has since had a second win op; should do better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (40/1 -100%) Tonto's Spirit |
40/1(-100%) | (3) Tonto's Spirit 40/1, Little impact the last twice and will be of more interest when returning to Cartmel (has a record 8 wins there). Below par on heavy this year but interesting off this mark back on good ground. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Despite losing his irons on the run-in, Thomas Dowson kept RIBEYE up to his work to land a second career victory at Hexham last time out. The eight-year-old relished the step back to this trip and he rates the one to beat off 6lb higher. Croagh Patrick has been a consistent customer of late and demands the utmost respect after a gallant second at Haydock on his latest outing. The handicapper has loosened his grip on Big Difference and he completes the shortlist now back off his last winning mark.
RIBEYE can continue his fine start over fences with a third win of the year. He was value for extra when scoring at Hexham recently and should have even more to offer. Marshalled wasn't beaten far at Sedgefield and is respected off the same mark on this better ground. Limerick Leader is another to consider.
Having won two of his three previous starts over fences, RIBEYE is selected to win again. Croagh Patrick is also likely to go well.

1st (3) (10/1 -150%) Thatbeatsbanagher |
10/1(-150%) | (3) Thatbeatsbanagher 10/1, Building up a very good record at Sedgefield, posting a career-best display when landing his third 27f handicap in March and even better form when second a month ago. Task is to now replicate that level at this track. In good form over 3m3f at Sedgefield at end of last season; may not be as effective here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (6/1 +50%) You Some Boy |
6/1(+50%) | (5) You Some Boy 6/1, Three wins last winter and off the mark for the current campaign at Ayr (3m) in March. Disappointing at Musselburgh but he's in the right hands to bounce back. Well beaten in series final last time but has claims if judged on earlier win at Ayr. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (7) (12/1 +0%) Nikgarde |
12/1(+0%) | (7) Nikgarde 12/1, Kelso winner in 2020 but lightly raced since and last season was disappointing. Has a bit to prove but ran well here two starts ago and Brian Hughes is a good booking. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (4.5/1 +10%) Rae Des Champs |
4.5/1(+10%) | (4) Rae Des Champs 4.5/1, Progressive last term, winning 2m handicap at Musselburgh in and signed that campaign off with a good second over the same trip at Kelso. Found only one too good at latter venue last month and now looks ready for a crack at this sort of trip. Good second over 2m2f last month; still quite lightly raced; tries a new trip here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (14/1 +30%) Bushmill Boy |
14/1(+30%) | (12) Bushmill Boy 14/1, Yet to score over hurdles and was never really a factor at Southwell last time, albeit he was snatched up. Cheekpieces need to galvanise him from 9 lb out of the weights. Disappointing favourite when dropped back to 2m last month; new trip and cheekpieces here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (16/1 -100%) Court Dreaming |
16/1(-100%) | (1) Court Dreaming 16/1, Cashed in on a reduced chase mark at Carlisle in October (24.5f). Sound return to action over timber at that venue last month and he may step up on that. Returned from break with decent effort last month but may find others better handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (4.5/1 +25%) Deluxe Range |
4.5/1(+25%) | (2) Deluxe Range 4.5/1, Losing run dates back to 2020 and he had a wind op before good third of 5 in handicap hurdle at Hexham (16.2f, heavy) in March. Kept on at the one pace returned to a more suitable 22.7f at Kelso a month later. Ended last season with two fairly good efforts but is seemingly on the downgrade now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (28/1 -133%) Aire Valley Lad |
28/1(-133%) | (8) Aire Valley Lad 28/1, Belatedly opened chase account at the twelfth time of asking in December. Only come close to giving his running once since and now reverts back to timber. Blinkers back on. Ended last season with two heavy defeats over fences; now reverts to hurdling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (6) (16/1 -129%) Balkotic |
16/1(-129%) | (6) Balkotic 16/1, Flat winner who arrives in pursuit of a hat-trick over hurdles, displaying a willing attitude to supplement his Hexham success at Catterick, Visor surpsiningly replaced with cheekpieces. Won his last two, but today's hat-trick attempt comes after a six-month absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (16/1 +0%) Kingrullah |
16/1(+0%) | (9) Kingrullah 16/1, Maiden/handicap winner at Sedgefield in autumn of 2019, but very lightly-raced and left Pauline Robson in July 2021. Failed to win between the flags since, though was runner-up last month. Not seen under rules since summer 2021 but went close in open point last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (4/1 +50%) Lastofthecosmics |
4/1(+50%) | (10) Lastofthecosmics 4/1, Ended losing run when reeling in Red Missile late on at Musselburgh (23.8f) in February. Couple of steadily-run races haven't helped him since. Slightly disappointing last time but was in good form beforehand; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (14/1 +44%) Tomorrow's Angel |
14/1(+44%) | (11) Tomorrow's Angel 14/1, Sole success over hurdles was gained almost 2 years ago and she's hard to warm to based on recent evidence. Badly out of form over hurdles during winter and also struggled in a recent Flat marathon. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
In a competitive contest, marginal preference is for THATBEATSBANAGHER, who failed to justify favouritism when runner-up over 3m3f at Sedgefield last time out. The consistent nine-year-old has only been handed a 2lb rise for that effort and may go one better now stepping back in trip. Balkotic arrives on the hunt for a third consecutive win after a break and merits consideration, while Deluxe Range completes the shortlist.
Hard to warm to the majority of these but there's an air of untapped potential around RAE DES CHAMPS over this sort of trip, so she is awarded the vote. Lastofthecosmics and Deluxe Range head the opposition.
Point winner RAE DES CHAMPS (nap) returned from a break with a good effort over 2m2f and looks interesting over today's longer trip.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (6.5/1 -136%) Killane |
6.5/1(-136%) | (9) Killane 6.5/1, Won 3 low-level handicaps in a productive 2021/22 campaign and back on the scoreboard, in first-time blinkers, when taking 10-runner handicap hurdle at Sedgefield (16.8f, heavy) 32 days ago. Just 3 lb higher now and holds solid claims. Four wins, the latest in blinkers last month; every chance if in the mood again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (6/1 +40%) Minella Youngy |
6/1(+40%) | (1) Minella Youngy 6/1, Fair winning hurdler in Ireland for Gavin Cromwell but yet to get competitive in 5 outings for current yard and is tough to recommend despite continuing to slide in weights. Yet to find his best form since arriving in Britain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (66/1 -560%) Edmond Dantes |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (28/1 -27%) Ebendi |
28/1(-27%) | (2) Ebendi 28/1, Fairly useful Flat performer for Joseph O'Brien and standout effort for this yard when seventh of 11 at Carlisle (17f) in February. 10th (5) (28/1 -75%) Mactavish |
28/1(-75%) | (5) Mactavish 28/1, Ran best race when second at Uttoxeter (15.8f) in October and likely to have been placed (unseated rider last) over same C&D a fortnight later. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (12/1 -33%) Irish Sovereign |
12/1(-33%) | (4) Irish Sovereign 12/1, Showed improved form in blinkers when winning a brace of handicaps in 2021/22 and shaped better than distance beaten (on return from 13-month absence for new yard) at Southwell 18 days ago. Warrants respect. Well beaten on stable debut after a year off; down in trip. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
First-time blinkers proved the tonic for Killane, who appeared to win with something in hand at Sedgefield last month and he's not taken lightly off only 3lb higher in the handicap. However, fellow last-time-winner MAGIC MIKE boasts a lightly-raced profile and a 4lb rise in the ratings for his success at Perth could prove on the lenient side. The majority of the remainder have something to prove at present, with Irish Sovereign feared most now only 1lb higher than his Sedgefield triumph last March.
MAGIC MIKE showed a good attitude when opening his account at Perth last month and remains feasibly treated. He may be able to follow up. Sedgefield-winner Killane looks the likeliest danger, whilst Irish Sovereign also enters calculations.
The improving MAGIC MIKE can follow up his Perth success.

125/1(-213%) | (7) Mistamel 125/1, Returning from 18 months off when pulled up in handicap hurdle (150/1) at Sedgefield on yard debut 32 days ago. Hard to fancy. Pulled up last month on stable debut after a long absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Red Vision is likely to prove popular after finishing fourth in a 15-runner affair at Southwell in late-April, with first-time cheekpieces likely to aid his cause today. Donald McCain's gelding merits serious consideration but preference is for STRONG TEAM, who was runner-up behind the progressive Lucky Lover Boy here in November and a reproduction of that effort may suffice. Dakota Moirette's mark continues to fall and reapplied headgear could spark a resurgence.
This can go to RED VISION, who has been given a chance by the handicapper and posted his best effort for some time when fourth at Southwell last month. Strong Team and Lady Hamilton can also make their presence felt.
A repeat of last November's C&D second might do the trick for STRONG TEAM.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
There was a lot to like about TOMMY TIME's facile win on his bumper debut at Kilbeggan last month and his new connections will be hoping that he can repay his subsequent 130,000-euro sale by triumphing under a 7lb penalty here. Fourtowns offered more encouragement when finishing fifth on his second appearance in a NH flat race at Down Royal earlier in the month, but a bigger threat may emerge from Captain Butler, who makes his racecourse bow on the back of a success between the flags.
TOMMY TIME made a good impression when completing a successful debut at Kilbeggan for Lorna Fowler and he's more than likely to defend his unbeaten record starting out for a new yard. Point-winner Captain Butler could pose the main threat and Slugger isn't totally discounted.
Iain Jardine's SLUGGER comes here after holding his own in two good races at Ayr and might be the answer.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
