17:25 Newcastle Handicap (Class 4) 12f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

BLINDEDBYTHELIGHTS progressed through the ranks last year and improved no less than 21lb for the Sir Mark Prescott team. The son of Protectionist was last seen filling the runner-up spot in a class 2 event at Haydock in September and he looks the one to beat on his return. Bringbackmemories did it well over C&D last month and he should remain competitive off 4lb higher, while La Pulga can pick up any pieces.

BLINDEDBYTHELIGHTS predictably improved switched to handicaps over middle-distances last season and, with scope for further progress as a 4-y-o, he will prove a tough nut to crack. Skye Breeze came up short when bidding for the hat-trick at Southwell but he wasn't disgraced all the same and is feared most ahead of Bringbackmemories.

Progressiive during a three-month spell last summer, BLINDEDBYTHELIGHTS is preferred to Bringbackmemories, who's back up 4lb.

18:00 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 10f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Yakhabar just did enough to prevail over an extended 1m4f here earlier in the month and he is likely to go well once again off a 2lb higher rating, but he could come out second best to HUMBLE SPARK. Jim Goldie's four-year-old had We Still Believe (third) and Oscar Doodle (fourth) behind when denied by just a head over track and trip last week and he can confirm that form to go one better.

SPIRIT OF ASH has an excellent record here and shaped well from a poor position behind Yakhabar at this course last time, so she's fancied to reverse the form with that rival provided the pace is solid. Humble Spark also arrives at the top of his game, so he's another player in a race that looks quite competitive for a 0-60.

Unappealing form figures may be no barrier to improved showings from Dragons Will Rise and LIFE ON THE ROCKS.

18:30 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

ANGEL OF ANTRIM comfortably struck in this grade over 7f here last week and although he has a 5lb penalty to contend with, it is unlikely to prevent him from recording a double. The main threat might be Barleybrown, who has reached the frame on both starts for the Ruth Carr stable and it would be no surprise to see him involved again. Retirement Beckons finished a close-up third over C&D last time and he completes the shortlist.

ANIF is something of a hostage to fortune, underlined by a luckless effort last time, but he's in good order and nicely handicapped, so it's worth taking the chance that things drop right on this occasion. Angel of Antrim is an obvious threat on the back of a comfortable course success and Reel Prospect is expected to return to form.

This can go to BARLEYBROWN, whose latest clear Wolverhampton third behind two gambles reads well. Anif is considered too.

19:00 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 8f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

Now that ODD SOCKS HAVANA has deservedly regained the winning thread after scoring over 7f here earlier in the month, there should be much more to come from the six-year-old. A 2lb rise looks manageable and he gets the vote ahead of Little Ted, who drops back from 1m2f. Runner-up on her last two starts, including here, Balqaa is another to consider, along with Coloane on her first start for new connections.

It might be worth taking a chance on COLOANE who is well treated on her peak form and appeals as one her new yard can get a win out of. Odds Socks Havana knows where the winning post is here and is second choice ahead of Balqaa.

Perhaps LITTLE TED, who'll be happier back at 1m off his last winning mark, will be up to this. Balqaa is another with claims.

19:30 Newcastle Handicap (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ROYAL VELVET showed marked improvement from her first to her second start when scoring at Wolverhampton back in December, and a mark of 69 could prove lenient for this unexposed filly on her handicap debut. Blue Virtue has strong claims if bouncing back to the form of her second over 6f here in March, while similar comments apply to Berrygate, who has been placed on four of her five career outings.

Wolverhampton maiden winner ROYAL VELVET should have more to come now handicapping and can show an opening mark in the 60s to be lenient. Berrygate had a possible excuse last time and had gone close on handicap debut prior to that. She might be the one to give WIlliam Knight's charge most to do ahead of Blue Virtue, another who is better than she showed last time.

A trappy event but the unexposed ROYAL VELVET (nap) did well to win off a steady pace at Wolverhampton and she looks well treated.

20:00 Newcastle Maiden (Class 5) 7f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

This looks as good an opportunity as any for SO LOGICAL to get off the mark, having been denied as a short-priced favourite at Chelmsford last time out. The daughter of Footstepsinthesand went from the front on that occasion and more restrained tactics could prove beneficial this time around. Her chief threats look to be Spook, who must be monitored for market support on her debut, and the returning Sovereign Queen.

This looks a great chance for SO LOGICAL to open her account at the fourth attempt, with newcomer Spook probably the chief threat.

There won't be any excuses for SO LOGICAL in an ordinary-looking fillies' maiden. Otherwise the hood should help More Than A Feelin.

20:30 Newcastle Handicap (Class 5) 5f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

It can often pay to be drawn high over the sprint trips here and, with that in mind, a chance is taken on ZUFFOLO. He's not been at his best since recording a narrow C&D victory in November, but he has dropped to the mark he won off that day and it would come as no surprise were he to bounce back. Elzaal continues to run well in defeat and is unlikely to be far away, while J R Cavagin is another to consider.

The vote goes to ELZAAL, who shaped well when runner-up over C&D back from a break in February. He failed to build on that back here next time but it was a respectable effort nonetheless and he's currently 3 lb below his last winning mark. Saaheq could be the one to follow him home, while Azucena and Catch Cunningham are others to consider.

In a tricky-looking handicap the tentative suggestion is CATCH CUNNINGHAM in the hope that he can recapture peak form for his new yard

21:00 Newcastle Handicap (Class 6) 6f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.

BERNIE THE BEAR rattled the woodwork at Wolverhampton and, should first-time blinkers eke out a bit more, he can go one better. Fircombe Hall finished behind the selection in third that day and can be on the premises once more, along with Tathmeen, who will appreciate the return to this venue having landed an amateur riders' event from 5lb lower last month.

BERNIE THE BEAR is holding his form pretty well so makes as much appeal as any of these. Tathmeen and Fircombe Hall have 7 C&D wins between them and are feared most.

Reduced marks and new accessories could see Dream Together and MISS CALCULATION dominate proceedings.
