Will stay and form pick (entered for 2000 Guineas).

5th (3) (33/1 -136%) Chuzzlewit |
33/1(-136%) | (3) Chuzzlewit 33/1, 450,000 gns Showcasing colt who found the penny dropping late on (well backed) when fifth in a Redcar novice (6f) on debut in July. Showed a bit more pitched into Group 2 Gimcrack before leading dying strides in Ayr novice. Off 6 months. Others have achieved more but remains with potential.
6th (9) (14/1 -27%) Oviedo |
14/1(-27%) | (9) Oviedo 14/1, Winning debut at Doncaster in July and better form when 3¾ lengths third of 9 to Chaldean in Acomb Stakes at York a month later. Failed to give his running in valuable sales race at the Curragh so bounce back is required. Off 167 days. Makes AW debut.
7th (4) (66/1 -100%) Dark Thirty |

9th (1) (1.75/1 +42%) Arabian Storm |
1.75/1(+42%) | (1) Arabian Storm 1.75/1, Twice-raced winner. Close second in decent Newmarket maiden before landing odds in similar event at this course (7.1f, 1/4) 23 days ago, pushed out. Remains a useful prospect (entered for 2000 Guineas).
10th (10) (22/1 -38%) Rousing Encore |
22/1(-38%) | (10) Rousing Encore 22/1, Useful colt. Easily best effort when runner-up in Mill Reef at Newbury, no chance with winner. Player on best form.
11th (11) (25/1 +24%) Tenjin |
25/1(+24%) | (11) Tenjin 25/1, Useful gelding. 14/1, good close third of 7 in class 2 event at Kempton (8f) 23 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Not taken lightly. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 1 race.
Dear My Friend made the frame in the Zetland Stakes at Newmarket last autumn, and also took third behind subsequent Breeders' Cup winner Victoria Road in France, and he sets the standard on official ratings. However, ROUSING ENCORE's second in the Mill Reef just shades things when it comes to prestige and the Richard Fahey-trained colt could be the one to side with now he steps up in trip. Obelix holds a 2000 Guineas entry and also has to be feared.
GALERON progressed well at 2 yrs, bagging a valuable big-field sales event at the Curragh on his final start, and gets the vote with that form looking rock solid. This does look a very competitive listed race though, with useful prospects Arabian Storm and Flight Plan heading the dangers.
Plenty have possibilies in this fascinating event but the Gosdens' impressive C&D winner OBELIX gets the vote on his return.

1st (2) (11/1 +31%) Desert Cop |
11/1(+31%) | (2) Desert Cop 11/1, Has improved with every run and got off the mark having his first go at 6f when making all in good style in Kempton novice 51 days ago. Bare form needs improving upon quite a bit, however.
2nd (6) (2/1 +33%) Shouldvebeenaring |
2/1(+33%) | (6) Shouldvebeenaring 2/1, Useful colt. Three wins from 7 runs last year. 3/1, 1¼ lengths fifth of 7 to Iconic Moment in listed race at Lingfield (7f, AW) 34 days ago, left poorly placed. Expected to be bang there.
3rd (7) (22/1 +12%) The X O |
22/1(+12%) | (7) The X O 22/1, Fairly useful colt. Latest win at Southwell in February. 1¾ lengths fifth of 8 to Danger Alert in handicap (10/3) at Kempton (6f) 30 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Remains open to improvement but others still preferred.
4th (3) (50/1 -127%) Michaela's Boy |
50/1(-127%) | (3) Michaela's Boy 50/1, Useful colt. Course winner. Three wins from 11 runs last year. 12½ lengths eighth of 9 to Perdika in listed race (9/1) at Chantilly (5.5f, soft) 17 days ago, possibly unsuited by the soft ground returned to turf. Progressive on AW so worth another chance.
5th (10) (6.5/1 -18%) Perdika |
6.5/1(-18%) | (10) Perdika 6.5/1, Prolific on the AW last year (4-5), latest win at Kempton in December. Took form to another level when narrow winner of listed event at Chantilly 17 days ago by a head. Respected.
6th (4) (11/1 -38%) New Definition |
11/1(-38%) | (4) New Definition 11/1, Useful colt. Latest win at Lingfield in December. Excellent short-head second of 7 to Iconic Moment in listed race at Lingfield (7f, AW) last month before excuses at Chelmsford last week.
7th (8) (33/1 -50%) Glorious Angel |
33/1(-50%) | (8) Glorious Angel 33/1, Fairly useful filly. Course winner. Latest win here in January. Fifth of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (7.2f, 7/1) 11 days ago. Vulnerable to progressive sorts.
8th (9) (12/1 +0%) Hello Queen |
12/1(+0%) | (9) Hello Queen 12/1, Better for debut when winning novice at Wolverhampton (6.1f) and progressed again to defy penalty at this C&D 35 days ago, making all and beating a subsequent winner. Respected but needs to take another big step forward.
9th (1) (9/1 +44%) Danger Alert |
9/1(+44%) | (1) Danger Alert 9/1, Fairly useful gelding. Career best when winning 8-runner handicap at Kempton (6f, 5/2) 30 days ago, suited by emphasis on speed. This tougher. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
PERDIKA has already faced some stiff tests on her travels this year but she has coped with them admirably, as is testified by her Listed triumph in France last month. This is tougher back against the boys, but her sex allowance creates strong hope that she will again rise to the challenge. Shouldvebeenaring, who wasn't beaten far in the Spring Cup at Lingfield, has progressed well and should be capable of another bold showing. Shaquille heads the remainder.
SHAQUILLE took his form to another level when defying a penalty at Wolverhampton in December, clocking a good time in the process, and he shades the vote over Shouldvebeenaring, who was left with too much to do at Lingfield last time. Perdika is another to consider having won a listed event at Chantilly last month.
Perdika and Danger Alert are greatly respected but SHAQUILLE is a classy sprinter in the making and can make it 3-3 over 6f.

2nd (5) (6/1 -9%) Fleurman |
6/1(-9%) | (5) Fleurman 6/1, Useful gelding. C&D winner. Latest win here in February. 8/1, good head second of 5 to Earlofthecotswolds in minor event at Wolverhampton (16.6f) 27 days ago, best work finish. Player.

4th (8) (20/1 +20%) Withhold |
20/1(+20%) | (8) Withhold 20/1, Useful gelding. C&D winner. Seventeen runs since last win in 2020. 28/1, creditable second of 10 in handicap at Kempton (16f) 44 days ago.
5th (3) (1.25/1 +29%) Berkshire Rocco |
1.25/1(+29%) | (3) Berkshire Rocco 1.25/1, Useful gelding. Latest win at Southwell in January. Little chance with winner when second of 8 in minor event at Kempton (16f, 3/1) 58 days ago, needing stiffer test. Big shout.
6th (9) (7.5/1 +25%) Nolton Cross |
7.5/1(+25%) | (9) Nolton Cross 7.5/1, Useful gelding. 10/3, career best when winning 7-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 20 days ago, having run of race. Significantly up in trip.
7th (7) (16/1 +0%) Solent Gateway |
16/1(+0%) | (7) Solent Gateway 16/1, Useful gelding. Latest win at Wolverhampton in January. 17/2, creditable fourth of 10 in handicap at Kempton (16f) 44 days ago, needing stiffer test.
8th (4) (7.5/1 -50%) Earlofthecotswolds |
7.5/1(-50%) | (4) Earlofthecotswolds 7.5/1, Useful gelding. C&D winner. Three wins from 7 runs last year. Career best when winning 5-runner minor event (6/1) at Wolverhampton (16.6f) 27 days ago by head from Fleurman, having run of race. Won this last year and should make another bold bid.
9th (1) (50/1 -25%) Aced It |
50/1(-25%) | (1) Aced It 50/1, Fairly useful gelding. Latest win at Kempton in January. Fourth of 6 in handicap (8/1) at Kempton (16f) 6 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Difficult ask. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
BERKSHIRE ROCCO has a touch of class and has scope to go further now he's proven he has the stamina. His last two performances suggest a race of this nature is within his compass and, with the in-form Oisin Murphy back in the saddle, all the pieces fit together well enough to expect a big run from the six-year-old. Earlofthecotswolds doesn't have much to find with the selection judged on their encounter at Kempton in February, while Nolton Cross is also fancied to be thereabouts.
BERKSHIRE ROCCO is making up for lost time now and had a few of these in behind when runner-up to a smart one at Kempton 8 weeks ago. The likely stiffer test here will suit and he looks the one to beat. Barenboim continues to go from strength to strength for this yard and must be respected despite slight stamina doubts, while last year's winner Earlofthecotswolds just held off Fleurman at Wolverhampton last month and there shouldn't be much between the pair again.
Berkshire Rocco is the form horse on recent evidence but FLEURMAN and Earlofthecotswolds are appealing alternatives.

1st (5) (2.25/1 +74%) Notre Belle Bete |
2.25/1(+74%) | (5) Notre Belle Bete 2.25/1, Three-time scorer at around 1m last year who has posted solid efforts in 1m handicaps at Lingfield and Wolverhampton in 2023. This is tougher but he's still not discounted back up to 1m2f.
2nd (1) (6.5/1 +13%) Base Note |
6.5/1(+13%) | (1) Base Note 6.5/1, Smart gelding who kickstarted 2023 with success in 1m4f Lingfield handicap. Didn't enjoy the rub of the green when fifth of 6 at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 32 days ago so needs considering.
3rd (4) (4/1 -45%) Harrovian |
4/1(-45%) | (4) Harrovian 4/1, Useful gelding who arrives in good nick, fourth of 8 to stablemate Lord North in Winter Derby at Lingfield (10f, AW) 41 days ago. Shortlisted.
4th (2) (2.25/1 -29%) Forest Of Dean |
2.25/1(-29%) | (2) Forest Of Dean 2.25/1, Resumed with cosy C&D success in January and not disgraced when sixth of 8 to stablemate Lord North in Winter Derby at Lingfield (10f) 41 days ago. Big shout at these weights.
5th (6) (14/1 +30%) United Front |
14/1(+30%) | (6) United Front 14/1, Course winner who posted easily his best run this term when third of 11 in handicap at Meydan (8f) 42 days ago. Back up in trip and not dismissed.
6th (3) (10/1 -67%) Freescape |
10/1(-67%) | (3) Freescape 10/1, Smart Irish gelding who scored on AW at Dundalk in December. Only eighth in Group 3 event at Meydan (9.9f, good) 49 days ago but not ruled out in this less exacting company. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
Freescape has failed to make much of an impact out in Dubai, but he shouldn't be underestimated now back home and he warrants respect. However, FOREST OF DEAN shaped better than the bare form when weakening into sixth in the Winter Derby - a prize he claimed in 2021 - and the John Gosden-trained seven-year-old is fancied to regain the winning thread in these calmer waters. His stablemate Harrovian finished ahead in fourth on that occasion, but could only manage third when the selection struck over this C&D in January.
FOREST OF DEAN started 2023 with a cosy C&D success and has less on his plate than when sixth to stablemate Lord North in Lingfield's Winter Derby so looks the way to go. Irish-challenger Freescape shouldn't be underestimated and is next on the list ahead of Base Note, who wasn't seen to best effect at Wolverhampton last time.
Preference is for the in-form NOTRE BELLE BETE now back up in trip. Forest Of Dean is feared most ahead of stablemate Harrovian

1st (1) (1.75/1 -27%) Berkshire Shadow |
1.75/1(-27%) | (1) Berkshire Shadow 1.75/1, Smart performer who was better than ever when making a successful reappearance and AW debut in the listed Wulfrina Stakes at Wolverhampton (7f) last month. Just as effective at 1m. Bold show likely.
2nd (2) (7/1 +13%) Chichester |
7/1(+13%) | (2) Chichester 7/1, Ready winner of a C&D conditions event in January and even better form when narrowly denied in 1¼m Chelmsford handicap last month. Won't need to up is game much to have a big say.
3rd (6) (11/1 -10%) The Wizard Of Eye |
11/1(-10%) | (6) The Wizard Of Eye 11/1, Useful colt. Cheekpieces on first time (retained), career best when winning 4-runner listed race (20/1) at Kempton (1m) by 3½ lengths from Tinker Toy, having run of race from front. More will be required if he's to follow up here.
4th (3) (18/1 -29%) Lord Of The Lodge |
18/1(-29%) | (3) Lord Of The Lodge 18/1, Course scorer whose latest win came at Southwell (7f) in January. 4/1, creditable second of 10 in handicap at Chelmsford (7f again) 27 days ago. Lingfield listed third in February shows he stays 1m but this track provides a stiffer test at the trip.
5th (4) (2.75/1 +31%) Positive |
2.75/1(+31%) | (4) Positive 2.75/1, Group 3 winner as a juvenile in 2019. Understandably took a bit of time to find his feet again after returning from a long absence last summer but AW handicap wins at Wolverhampton and Kempton this winter suggest he's every bit as good as ever. Leading claims.
6th (5) (4/1 +33%) San Andreas |
4/1(+33%) | (5) San Andreas 4/1, Smart gelding who got his head back in front in 1m Dundalk conditions race last month. Top Irish stable's British runners always command plenty of respect. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
BERKSHIRE SHADOW looked back to his best when winning the Lady Wulfruna Stakes at Wolverhampton last month and the 2021 Coventry Stakes hero can stamp his class on this contest too. Positive is rated 5lb inferior to the selection, but is clearly in good heart having completed a brace of handicap victories. He is feared most, ahead of Irish raider San Andreas, who struck over this distance in taking fashion at Dundalk last time out.
POSITIVE has looked right back on song when landing a pair of very useful AW handicaps this winter and is narrowly preferred to last month's Wolverhampton listed winner Berkshire Shadow. Irish-raider San Andreas may prove best of the remainder.
Irish raider SAN ANDREAS went very close in this last year and can emerge on top this time, having bolted up at Dundalk in March.

1st (5) (1.5/1 +0%) Queen Aminatu |
1.5/1(+0%) | (5) Queen Aminatu 1.5/1, Ended last year on the up, impressively landing back-to-back AW listed events at up to 1m. Run style suggests the demands of this track will suit and she's well worth considering.
2nd (1) (14/1 +13%) Aramis Grey |
14/1(+13%) | (1) Aramis Grey 14/1, Useful mare who chased home re-opposing Manaafith at Southwell (7f) on New Year's Day and having finished runner-up next time, she duly regained the winning thread in Lingfield conditions' event in February (with bit in hand). Credit to connections but more on her plate here.
3rd (4) (1.1/1 +0%) Manaafith |
1.1/1(+0%) | (4) Manaafith 1.1/1, Smart filly with a very good strike rate, gaining her sixth career success when landing 6-runner Lingfield listed event (1m) in February with plenty in hand. Remains open to further improvement and she's expected to play a lead role again.
3rd (3) (11/1 +8%) Hodd's Girl |
11/1(+8%) | (3) Hodd's Girl 11/1, Improved model for this yard, notching up yet another victory at Dundalk (6f) in January. Has performed with credit both starts since, latterly at listed level 4 weeks ago but place claims may be her best hope here.
5th (2) (40/1 +20%) Fiduciary |
40/1(+20%) | (2) Fiduciary 40/1, 6-y-o mare who ran to a useful level in North America but exploits have been mixed upon joining present yard, albeit not beaten far when last of 7 in Wolverhampton fillies' handicap (7f) 11 days ago. Still, very much has her work cut out on these terms. Blinkered for 1st time.
6th (6) (18/1 +40%) River Pride |
18/1(+40%) | (6) River Pride 18/1, Dual 7f winner for Richard Hannon and better than ever to open account for present yard at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 11 days ago, getting first run but always holding on. Needs to pull out a good deal more if she's to follow up in this higher grade, however.
7th (7) (100/1 +0%) Smiling Sunflower |
100/1(+0%) | (7) Smiling Sunflower 100/1, Scored on debut for Mick Appleby at Wolverhampton (8.6f) in January and similar form in defeat from higher marks in trio of outings since. However, she's another with plenty to find on these terms and likely set to struggle. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
It is hard to look past MANAAFITH, who beat the boys in Listed company over a mile at Lingfield. A drop in trip may not be enough to stop the Roger Varian-trained filly adding to her tally because she accounted for Aramis Grey over this distance at Southwell on New Year's Day. Queen Aminatu progressed at a rate of knots towards the back end of 2022 and is feared most on her return to the fray. Aramis Grey has held her form since that Southwell defeat at the hands of the selection, and saw off last week's impressive Cammidge Trophy scorer Vadream at Lingfield.
MANAAFITH stretched her unbeaten record on synthetics to six when posting a career-best display to land a listed event at Lingfield in February and, with further progress on the cards, she rates the one to side with again. That said, Queen Aminatu is compiling a very solid record of her own and shouldn't be underestimated. Hodd's Girl can do best of the others.
This is probably between Manaafith and QUEEN AMINATU (nap), and the votes goes the latter who sets the standard on her return.

4/1(+0%) | (3) Diligent Harry 4/1, Respectable neck second of 10 to Annaf in listed race at Lingfield (6f, AW, 4/1) before going one better in C&D handicap 10 days later. Saddle slipped at Chantilly since. High on shortlist.
2nd (10) (14/1 +30%) Witch Hunter |
14/1(+30%) | (10) Witch Hunter 14/1, Has done well since equipped with cheekpieces, winning at Wolverhampton in December and smart effort when going close at Lingfield (both 7f). Easy to forgive last week's showing in the Lincoln but may not have the pace of some of these back down in trip.
3rd (2) (1.75/1 +30%) Annaf |
1.75/1(+30%) | (2) Annaf 1.75/1, Smart colt. C&D winner. Didn't need to be at best when winning 10-runner listed race (6/5) at Lingfield (6f, AW) 62 days ago by neck from Diligent Harry, overcoming pace bias. Shortlist material.

9/1(+10%) | (6) Mums Tipple 9/1, Smart gelding. Won 10-runner handicap at Chelmsford City (7f, 10/1) 27 days ago, driven out. More needed here but frame claims.
5th (5) (8.5/1 +29%) Harry's Bar |
8.5/1(+29%) | (5) Harry's Bar 8.5/1, Smart gelding. Three wins from 8 runs last year. Respectable 1¼ lengths third of 8 to Berkshire Shadow in listed race (11/1) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 27 days ago, running on. Not taken lightly back down in trip.
6th (11) (6/1 -33%) Vadream |
6/1(-33%) | (11) Vadream 6/1, Smart mare. C&D winner. 9/1, career best when winning 10-runner listed race at Doncaster (6f, heavy) 6 days ago by 4½ lengths from Fast Response. No surprise to see her turned out quickly but this will be a different kind of test.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
ANNAF has taken his game to a new level this winter and completed a hat-trick when keeping on strongly to land Listed honours at Lingfield. The son of Muhaarar can continue his forward momentum, but Vadream bounced back to winning form in emphatic style at Doncaster last weekend and can give him plenty to think about. Diligent Harry was denied by the selection at Lingfield and after then defying top weight in handicap company here, struggled in France. He still merits consideration, as does Mums Tipple.
ANNAF has thrived on the AW this year, overcoming the run of the race when completing the hat-trick in a listed race at Lingfield 2 months ago, and appeals as the most likely winner. Diligent Harry was a neck behind the selection that day and has since won a C&D handicap so rates the main threat once again, while Vadream can't be ignored after her impressive win at Doncaster on Saturday.
Annaf is on a roll but the veteran SUMMERGHAND might be able to reverse February placings with him at this stiffer track.
Ths is the racecard key.
