LTO Selection:

11:55 Newcastle Stakes (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

YOUGOGLENCOKO won impressively on her racecourse bow over 2m at Kelso in September and Donald McCain's mare could be hard to beat once again, despite carrying a 7lb penalty. Storm Spirit failed to fire last time but is a player based on her debut effort over C&D, while The Dream Goes On and Nala The Lioness are others to note.

NALA THE LIONESS represents a shrewd stable and it's significant that she's taking the bumper route (Flat bred), so she can make a winning start if she stays. Thatswhatshesaid is another notable newcomer and Yougoglencoko is also of interest after a successful start at Kelso 108 days ago.

The return to AW could be a positive for C&D runner-up STORM SPIRIT who gets the nod ahead of Kelso winner Yougoglencoko.

(3) Champ De Gane 6/1, Fairly useful maiden hurdler/chaser who is usually thereabouts, runner-up last 3 starts. Sold from Stuart Crawford £33,000 in September and he should give another good account.
0-17 but runner-up on five of his nine chase starts; might not be far away on stable debut.
LTO Selection:

12:30 Newcastle Handicap Chase (Class 3) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

GARDENER was a 30-length winner on his debut for Olly Murphy at Southwell a few weeks ago and is hard to oppose here even after a 10lb rise in the ratings. Findthetime scored at Wetherby two starts ago and is likely to go well once again, although he will have to improve on his most recent effort to beat the selection. Champ De Gane is a consistent performer who is the clear pick of the remainder.

A good winner at Wetherby on his penultimate start, FINDTHETIME shaped better than the distance beaten suggests having been badly hampered when fourth over further at Doncaster 21 days ago. He could be worth siding with to come out on top dropped back in trip. Gardener, an impressive winner on yard/chase debut at Southwell recently, should give him plenty to think about, however.

Gardener impressed on his chase debut at Southwell but preference is for FINDTHETIME, who had an excuse at Doncaster last time out.

Failed to take to chasing on reappearance but quickly back on track when third in Wincanton handicap hurdle (had breathing op prior) next time. Outclassed in listed event at Kempton since but this is less demanding.
Better could have been expected at 3m latest but she could still go well now back in h'cap.
LTO Selection:

13:05 Newcastle Handicap Hurdle (Class 3) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Juge Et Parti (first) and Teescomponentstrig (second) are closely matched based on their meeting at Hexham last month and both merit plenty of respect as a result. That said, marginal preference is for GUERNESEY, who may have found an extended 2m4f too sharp last time and is better judged on his narrow second over 3m2f at Kelso the time before.

ARTIC MANN has returned from a long absence just about as good as ever and can be afforded a bit extra credit on her most recent outing having fared best of those held up, so she's the percentage call in a tightly-knit handicap. Curley Finger could get an easy time of things out in front and is second choice, ahead of Teescomponentstrig.

The step back up in trip should be ideal for GUERNESEY (nap), who stayed on well for fifth over 2m4f at Ayr last time.

LTO Selection:

13:40 Newcastle Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 17f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

FORGED WELL was hampered by the errant jumping of one of his rivals three times during his hurdles debut at Carlisle last month and having shown professionalism to emerge as a comfortable winner, he is a likely type to cope with a penalty. Two Auld Pals made an encouraging first start in this discipline at Bangor and rates the biggest threat, ahead of the returning Konfusion.

TWO AULD PALS hit the target 3 times on the Flat in 2023 and found only a previous winner too strong on his recent Bangor hurdle debut, so he's taken to make the most of the 7 lb he receives from the penalised Forged Well, who won readily at Carlisle despite jumping markedly right. Konfusion could be the one to fill the places.

Three-time Flat winner TWO AULD PALS made an encouraging start to his hurdling career when second at Bangor and can go one better.

LTO Selection:

14:15 Newcastle Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

HANDSTANDS, who breezed through his only start in a point-to-point, showed stacks of promise to win by six and a half lengths on his hurdles debut at Hereford three weeks ago and is hard to oppose. The selection obviously shoulders a 7lb penalty, which creates hope for the likes of Hubbel Bubbel and Rock Steady Eddie, who can at least make a race of it.

HANDSTANDS is unbeaten in a point and a novice hurdle at Hereford and he should be capable of defying a penalty. Boolamore Classic and Mayheblucky have both shown ability between the flags, so they're the most feasible dangers.

This is an excellent opportunity for HANDSTANDS to maintain his unbeaten record. Maybe Boolamore Classic will be best of the rest.

14:50 Newcastle Handicap Chase (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

This can go the way of GOODOLDBILL, who was a determined winner over further here in November and should not be inconvenienced by the drop in distance on this occasion. A 3lb rise looks manageable and he can see off the likes of En Meme Temps and Empty Nest, who improved from first to second start over fences to finish a close-up third at Catterick last month.

EMPTY NEST made the odd mistake before rattling home in eye-catching fashion at Catterick last time, so he's worth a chance to put it all together now. Coolkill and Goodoldbill look the main threats.

Having not looked short of pace when winning over 2m7f here in November, the unexposed 8yo GOODOLDBILL is taken to follow up.

LTO Selection:

15:25 Newcastle Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

ROBERT D'ORES looked to hold every chance of breaking the maiden when unseating his rider two out over fences at Hexham last May, and he may be able to gain compensation on his return/switch to hurdles. The unexposed seven-year-old should have too much for handicap debutant Yealand, as well as Tommy Johnson, who is a player if bouncing back to the form of his debut second at Carlisle.

YEALAND looks to have got in lightly for his handicap bow so Jennie Candlish's lightly-raced 5-y-o gets the vote in a handicap where plenty arrive with a question mark against them. Tommy Johnson also goes into handicaps with more to offer so rates the main threat, while Robert d'Ores can't be discounted if on song for his seasonal return.

The most appealing option is YEALAND, who looked quite promising in his qualifying races. Tommy Johnson is second choice.
