---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
1st (5) (11/4 -38%) Brentford Hope |
11/4(-38%) | (5) Brentford Hope 11/4, Useful Flat performer who won a maiden at Wincanton and novice at Huntingdon (both 2m) on joining this yard last spring. Only sixth when sent off favourite for the Swinton at Haydock in May but that first experience of a big-field handicap should hold him in good stead. Remains capable of better. Beaten favourite in the Swinton when last sighted but he should be well handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (9/2 +50%) Sergeant Wilson |
9/2(+50%) | (11) Sergeant Wilson 9/2, Free-goer who isn't the easiest of rides but he is talented if channelling his energies in the right direction. His headstrong ways proved costly again on his Southwell reappearance but the fact he went off a heavily-backed 10/11 shot suggests his in-form stable were hopeful of a lot better. Has his quirks but he's well handicapped should he bring his A game. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (150/1 -275%) Made For You |
150/1(-275%) | (6) Made For You 150/1, All 5 career victories over hurdles gained on right-handed tracks, the latest at Musselburgh (2½m) last December. Patchy record since, finishing a well-held sixth on the Flat when last seen in May. A watching brief is advised. Five-time winning hurdler; stays much further but very effective at this trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (13/2 +7%) Whizz Kid |
13/2(+7%) | (1) Whizz Kid 13/2, Prominent racer who was successful at Doncaster in the spring and made a winning return from wind surgery at Wetherby (2m, good) last month. 5 lb higher in what looks a stronger race now. Willing 7yo who looked better than ever after wind surgery when dominating at Wetherby. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (33/1 -32%) American Gerry |
33/1(-32%) | (10) American Gerry 33/1, Successful twice during first half of 2022. Lightly raced since but his fourth at Fontwell in April showed he retains his ability. Not in the same form when a remote fourth at Uttoxeter the following month and absent since. He's not fulfilled his initial promise and hasn't been at his best for a while now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (5/1 +17%) Grivetana |
5/1(+17%) | (8) Grivetana 5/1, Runner-up in this race on reappearance last year and also filled the same position in the Gerry Feilden here on next start. Things didn't go so well later in the campaign but has dropped to a good mark as a result and goes well fresh. Has had wind surgery. Lost her way last season but had wind surgery and she's well handicapped. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (40/1 -60%) Oakley |
40/1(-60%) | (4) Oakley 40/1, Off the mark for present stable at Stratford (2m, soft) in spring 2022 but seen only 4 times since, fading into a below-par seventh back at Stratford when last seen in July. Has form off much higher marks and returned from a break in fair nick last season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (50/1 -178%) Bread And Butter |
50/1(-178%) | (7) Bread And Butter 50/1, Twenty eight runs since last win in 2020. Latest 6¼ lengths fifth of 7 to Whizz Kid at Wetherby (2m) was his best run since coming to Britain but never a threat and 2m probably a bit on short side for him. Only momentarily threatened in Whizz Kid's race at Wetherby three weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (12/1 -33%) Castel Gandolfo |
12/1(-33%) | (2) Castel Gandolfo 12/1, Has had a good first half of the season, winning at Kelso (2m, good to firm) in May and good in-frame efforts in competitive handicaps lately, finishing fourth of 18 at Cheltenham 13 days ago. Consistent 6yo; handicapped about right but brings solid each-way credentials. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (11/4 +8%) Brookie |
11/4(+8%) | (3) Brookie 11/4, Fairly useful hurdler/chaser in Ireland and better than ever when making a winning start for new trainer Anthony Honeyball in 4-runner Fontwell handicap hurdle 5 weeks ago. The second won next time so a 6 lb rise looks fair. This is tougher than Fontwell but he won that comfortably off 6lb lower. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (50/1 -25%) Believe Jack |
50/1(-25%) | (9) Believe Jack 50/1, Made a winning start for this stable in a novice at Hereford in November 2021 but not in the same form when fourth at Kelso 2 months later and not seen since. Can only watch unless the betting strongly hints otherwise. Has to prove himself worthy of this mark following a long absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
WHIZZ KID returned from a 193-day break to score by over four lengths at Wetherby last month and he has only been put up 5lb in the ratings for that display. With that in mind, the seven-year-old could prove hard to stop. Brookie was a facile winner at Fontwell last time and has to be considered off a 6lb higher mark, while Sergeant Wilson could bounce back from his underwhelming effort at Southwell last time.
BROOKIE readily saw off a subsequent winner at Fontwell on his first outing for the Anthony Honeyball yard and may be able to cope with a 6 lb rise. Although Brentford Hope failed to make a significant impact in the Swinton he remains a handicap hurdler with potential and is second choice ahead of last year's runner-up Grivetana.
Last year's runner-up Grivetana is feared off a good mark but BRENTFORD HOPE (nap) might be even better handicapped.

1st (11) (1/3 +18%) Willmount |
1/3(+18%) | (11) Willmount 1/3, Expensive winning pointer who followed suit on both bumper outings and is firmly expected to maintain his unbeaten record switched to hurdling. Point winner who impressed in both bumpers and is an exciting prospect for hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (12/1 -85%) Beny Nahar Road |
12/1(-85%) | (1) Beny Nahar Road 12/1, Fairly useful maiden on Flat. Too free when sixth of 8 in 2m handicap at Ascot in May on his first outing for Paul Nicholls. In need of experience when second in a novice at Wincanton on hurdling debut but should do better. Could do with settling better on second hurdle start but open to improvement for top yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (22/1 -38%) Onewayortother |
22/1(-38%) | (10) Onewayortother 22/1, Gambled on and looked potentially useful when landing a Kempton bumper early in 2022. Testing conditions perhaps against him when pulled up on hurdles debut last November and he's bound to do better in time, albeit the ground is unlikely to be much quicker here. Absent since flopping last November but 5l bumper win on only other run; watch the betting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (4/1 +47%) Joker De Mai |
4/1(+47%) | (8) Joker De Mai 4/1, Useful chaser. 43/10, won 6-runner minor event chase at Auteuil (17.9f, soft). Off 7 months. Switches from chase to hurdles. First run for yard after leaving J. Delaunay. Solid claims back over hurdles for new yard. Two-time French chase winner who has joined up-and-coming yard; could play leading role. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (16/1 +68%) Crypto Currency |
16/1(+68%) | (4) Crypto Currency 16/1, Winning pointer who shaped encouragingly switched to a bumper when fifth at Sandown. Low-key start to hurdling career over C&D almost 2 years ago and hasn't been seen since. New yard. Returns from long absence but has shown promise and new yard is in good form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (125/1 +0%) Celtic Ned |
125/1(+0%) | (3) Celtic Ned 125/1, Closely related to 2 winners but pulled up in a novice at Kempton on hurdling debut. Has left Pat Phelan/off 7 months since. Pulled up at 125-1 on his sole start in Kempton in March; has changed yards. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (18/1 -80%) King William Rufus |
18/1(-80%) | (9) King William Rufus 18/1, Showed plenty when placed all 3 bumper outings last season and should improve for his initial experience of hurdling at Uttoxeter a month ago. Not dismissed. Only sixth on hurdle debut but there's room for improvement in jumping; promise in bumpers. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (2) (150/1 -88%) Bitsnbuckles |
150/1(-88%) | (2) Bitsnbuckles 150/1, Runner-up in a point and shaped as if better for the run sent hurdling on first outing since leaving Michael C. Griffin after 6 months off when ninth of 15 in a novice at Ludlow (15.8f, soft) two weeks ago. Went close in a point but has since been well beaten in a bumper and a novice hurdle. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (150/1 -50%) Jaxonne |
150/1(-50%) | (7) Jaxonne 150/1, Offered little both starts under Rules and looks set for another struggle. Things could click at some point & market check is advised, but tailed off on both starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (12) (250/1 -150%) I'm On My Way |
250/1(-150%) | (12) I'm On My Way 250/1, Not seen since last of 10 in novice hurdle at Chepstow on NH debut 19 months ago and can only be watched here. Third in one of her points but tailed off on rules debut in March 2022 and absent since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (6) (100/1 +0%) Good Lord |
100/1(+0%) | (6) Good Lord 100/1, Fair winner over 11f from 3 starts on Flat in Germany. Subsequently sold out of Marcel Weiss yard for €19,000 and not much encouragement so far over hurdles. Won on the Flat in Germany but soundly beaten on his two hurdle starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (5) (80/1 -264%) Crystal Mer |
80/1(-264%) | (5) Crystal Mer 80/1, Sea The Stars gelding who was a good fifth in a Cheltenham listed event on New Year's Day and confirmed he has a fair level of ability when 2 lengths second at Doncaster next time. Latest run was poor and off 6 months prior to this hurdling bow. Showed promise in bumpers and each-way claims if taking to hurdles at first attempt. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (13) (200/1 -203%) Tooting |
200/1(-203%) | (13) Tooting 200/1, Out of a winning hurdler but little encouragement at Plumpton on hurdling debut. 14-1, well-beaten last of eight on debut in novice hurdle at Plumpton recently. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Beny Nahar Road was beaten 10 lengths into second at Wincanton last month and he should have learned plenty from that first outing over obstacles. However, he could find it difficult to get anywhere near WILLMOUNT on his hurdling debut and first start for the Nicky Henderson yard. The son of Blue Bresil impressed in both bumper victories and looks to have plenty of ability, so is difficult to oppose. Any market support for Joker De Mai would also be of interest.
WILLMOUNT has created a good impression in winning all 3 starts (point on first occasion) to date and he's likely to make it four from four switched to hurdling. Beny Nahar Road is open to improvement and Joker de Mai is of interest on British debut.
The unbeaten WILLMOUNT is an exciting prospect for novice hurdles and is taken to make a winning start for Nicky Henderson.

1st (11) (6/1 +0%) Inch House |
6/1(+0%) | (11) Inch House 6/1, £125,000 purchase after winning an Irish point and progressed nicely over hurdles. Shaped well when third in a handicap at Chepstow last month, so he's open to improvement in this sphere. Jumping let him down when third on chase debut but entitled to improve on that form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (8/1 -23%) Theatre Man |
8/1(-23%) | (4) Theatre Man 8/1, Useful hurdler. 11/4, career best when winning 7-runner novice hurdle at Kempton (21f, heavy), having run of race. Very much the type to take to chasing, so worthy of consideration back from 7 months off. Progressive novice hurdler who brings bags of potential to fences; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (10/1 -11%) Way Out |
10/1(-11%) | (6) Way Out 10/1, Irish point winner who won all 3 starts over hurdles this season and made an encouraging start to chasing in a handicap at Cheltenham recently. Could feature. Under a positive ride he was third on switch to fences in a recent handicap at Cheltenham. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (10/1 -82%) Neon Moon |
10/1(-82%) | (5) Neon Moon 10/1, Strong-traveller who returned better than ever to win a Ludlow handicap with ease a fortnight ago. Stiffer fences to contend with here but demands plenty of respect. Solid handicap form last season and returned with a clearcut win at Ludlow; 6lb rise fair. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (10/1 +17%) Come On Gruff |
10/1(+17%) | (9) Come On Gruff 10/1, Fairly useful hurdler for Tom George and signed off last season with a good effort at Worcester. Has changed yards in the 6 months he's been off but has the size for chasing. Consistent hurdler who stayed well and he's bred to be a chaser. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (3/1 +67%) Scrum Diddly |
3/1(+67%) | (7) Scrum Diddly 3/1, Going the right way over hurdles for Oliver Sherwood when last seen 5 months ago and has a pointing background, so notable chasing debutant starting out for a shrewd stable. Progressive hurdler; only a 5yo and he has useful chasers in his pedigree. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (11/2 -22%) Knowsley Road |
11/2(-22%) | (3) Knowsley Road 11/2, Progressive over hurdles prior to a blip at this course 7 months ago. Runner-up in an Irish point, so no surprise if he gets back on the up switched to chasing. Bumper/dual hurdle winner; chasing was always going to be his job. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (22/1 +33%) My Bobby Dazzler |
22/1(+33%) | (8) My Bobby Dazzler 22/1, Point winner who was fairly useful over hurdles and dug deep to make a successful start over fences at Worcester 147 days ago. Claims if he's tuned up. This is tougher than when beating three rivals at Worcester but he's only 2lb higher. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (12) (9/1 +25%) Mumbo Jumbo |
9/1(+25%) | (12) Mumbo Jumbo 9/1, Yet to win a race of any description but has built up a solid record over fences and returns with his stable amongst the winners, so not ruled out. Remains a maiden but some of his form over hurdles and fences reads very well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (15/2 -114%) Pull Again Green |
15/2(-114%) | (1) Pull Again Green 15/2, Latest win in chase at Bangor in August. Good second of 7 in handicap chase at Chepstow (23.6f, soft, 5/1) 27 days ago, running on. Not taken lightly. Bumped into a promising recruit last time at Chepstow; got a 2lb nudge but respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (50/1 -25%) Pounding Poet |
50/1(-25%) | (2) Pounding Poet 50/1, Sixth of 7 in handicap chase (25/1) at Chepstow (23.6f, soft) on debut over fences 27 days ago. Should have more to offer. Well behind both Pull Again Green and Inch House on recent chase debut at Chepstow. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
NEON MOON bolted up by 12 lengths over 3m at Ludlow last month and he was put up just 6lb for that victory. Therefore, the son of No Risk At All looks the way to go once again. Scrum Diddly was sent off favourite for a warm handicap hurdle at Cartmel in May and has since switched to the Harry Derham stable, so he has to be of interest. Knowsley Road could prove a different proposition over fences and completes the shortlist.
INCH HOUSE went the right way over hurdles and there was enough encouragement in his chasing debut to think he can defy his current mark, so he gets the nod over recent Ludlow winner Neon Moon. Pull Again Green is another to consider.
Most of these should have bright futures over fences. THEATRE MAN impressed with how he went about his business in novice hurdles.

1st (1) (8/1 +50%) Manimole |
8/1(+50%) | (1) Manimole 8/1, Hasn't finished out of the first two in 7 outings in maiden/novice company since May, but did too much too soon back in a handicap last time at Worcester (2½m, soft) where she was safely held when unseating rider at the final flight. Looks vulnerable conceding weight all round. Consistent mare who has been running well but vulnerable here with her penalties. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (10) (50/1 -79%) Telepathique |
50/1(-79%) | (10) Telepathique 50/1, Confirmed debut promise when landing a 12-runner Warwick bumper (2m, good to soft) in February. Another who was too keen in Grade 2 company at Aintree's Grand National meeting and she's up against some potentially useful types now switched to hurdles. Bumper winner; there's a lot of stamina in her pedigree so longer trips beckon.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (8/13 +25%) Break My Soul |
8/13(+25%) | (4) Break My Soul 8/13, Half-sister to several winners and fetched £290,000 after landing an Irish maiden point in February. Joined a top yard, which saddled the winner of this race in 2018 and 2020, and it will look significant if the market speaks in her favour on Rules debut. Fetched £290,000 at the sales soon after impressing in an Irish point. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (13/2 +19%) Politacus |
13/2(+19%) | (5) Politacus 13/2, Off the mark at the third attempt in bumpers at Ascot in February before finishing fourth in a 20-runner Grade 2 at Aintree. Failed to justify favouritism on return/hurdles debut at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy), but she wasn't knocked about and looks sure to come on for that run. Good bumper mare; hurdling debut was underwhelming but can improve on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (200/1 -300%) Selkirk Grace |
200/1(-300%) | (9) Selkirk Grace 200/1, Has the physique for hurdling and progressive form in bumpers, best effort when third in 10-runner event at Southwell in May. Left behind from 3 out on back of wind op when fifth in Warwick mares' novice (2m, good) on return last month, making novicey mistakes. Engaged 2.05 Chepstow Wednesday. Opposable on what she's shown so far; non-runner at Chepstow on Wednesday (2.05).. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (28/1 -133%) Sanda Rena |
28/1(-133%) | (7) Sanda Rena 28/1, £150,000 purchase after making a winning start in the Irish pointing field last December. Unable to justify her position in the market (sent off 13/8 favourite) when third in Southwell bumper on Rules debut during the spring, but it'll be interesting to see how she gets on now switched to hurdles. Point winner then beaten 13l in a Southwell bumper; sure to appreciate further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (12/1 +14%) Bella Civena |
12/1(+14%) | (2) Bella Civena 12/1, Very promising start to her career when landing an 8-runner Market Rasen juvenile hurdle (16.6f, heavy) in March, impressing with the way she jumped in what was a strongly-run race and the turn of foot she displayed. More on her plate here, but she's potentially useful. Readily accounted for previous winners in a juvenile hurdle at Market Rasen (soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (300/1 -140%) Raindance Queen |
300/1(-140%) | (6) Raindance Queen 300/1, Placed both starts between the flags early-2022, but absent since and she's pitched into a warm race for her Rules debut. Placed but well held in two point bumpers during early 2022; off since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (33/1 +67%) Tipperary Star |
33/1(+67%) | (11) Tipperary Star 33/1, Showed plenty of ability when placed in a trio of bumpers in the first half of last season, prior to finding listed company too hot (also didn't help herself by racing freely) at Market Rasen on latest start in February. Thereabouts in her first three bumpers before finishing well held in a good Listed event. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (4/1 -45%) Seeyouinmydreams |
4/1(-45%) | (8) Seeyouinmydreams 4/1, 235,000 gns buy after point success in April 2022 and impressed on Rules debut here when landing a bumper by 11 lengths in March. Far too keen in a Grade 2 at Aintree next time, but she's clearly talented and will be a threat if settling better now sent hurdling in a first-time tongue strap. Point/bumper winner before racing too freely in the Grade 2 at Aintree in April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (150/1 -275%) Birdhouse |
150/1(-275%) | (3) Birdhouse 150/1, Related to winners on the Flat and settled much better when making second bumper start a winning one at Fakenham in April. Looked badly in need of the experience sent hurdling on return at Warwick (2m, good) and likely to leave that form well behind in time. Bumper winner; ended up well held on hurdling debut; Flat bred and opposable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
BREAK MY SOUL cost 290,000 pounds having won an Irish point-to-point in February and it would be no surprise to see her play a leading role on her Rules debut. The daughter of Doyen is preferred to the experienced Manimole, as well as Bella Civena, who won well first time out at Market Rasen in March. Politacus and Seeyouinmydreams cannot be ruled out either.
If the market vibes surrounding BREAK MY SOUL are upbeat, it will be an ominous sign for her rivals. Indeed, the 4-y-o was a big-money buy after winning her sole start between the flags and now embarks on a career under Rules for the Nicky Henderson yard, which has saddled the winner of this race on a couple of occasions in recent years. Bella Civena was pretty impressive on her introduction at Market Rasen and she is second choice ahead of Politacus and Seeyouinmydreams.
An interesting race. SEEYOUINMYDREAMS is a lot better than she showed in her final bumper. Break My Soul seems well regarded.

1st (10) (7/1 +50%) Young Butler |
7/1(+50%) | (10) Young Butler 7/1, Won twice in this sphere in 2021/22 and notched third success when accounting for 7 rivals at Kempton (24.5f, soft) in March. However, he again made hard work of things and is probably worth taking on up 5 lb for new yard following a 6-month absence. 3-9 hurdling for Emma Lavelle and could still be competitively treated; new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (9/1 -157%) Emitom |
9/1(-157%) | (8) Emitom 9/1, Grade 2 winning hurdler earlier in his career who justified support when making a winning yard debut from his much-reduced mark over C&D (good to firm) in March. Remains with plenty of handicapping scope on old form and has to be of interest on seasonal bow. Former class act; returned to winning ways on stable debut in March; up 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (4/1 +50%) Bold Endeavour |
4/1(+50%) | (1) Bold Endeavour 4/1, Won twice in this sphere as a novice for Laura Morgan and successful first 2 starts over fences for Nicky Henderson last season. Ended that campaign with a series of creditable efforts back hurdling, but no easy task under top-weight back from a break here. Useful hurdler/chaser; stuck on a tough mark but that's not to say he can't run well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (14/1 -27%) Hititi |
14/1(-27%) | (6) Hititi 14/1, Ended last season on a high, completing the hat-trick with a bit left up his sleeve at Taunton (3m, good to soft) in April, making it 5-11 in this sphere in the process. This career-high mark demands further progress, but he will be a threat if able to pick up where he left off. Improving at a rate of knots when last seen in the spring; could continue the good work. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (12) (Evens +43%) Equinus |
Evens(+43%) | (12) Equinus Evens, Made a successful handicap debut at Ffos Las in January and doubled his tally in good style on return at Aintree (24.7f, soft) recently. Escapes a penalty for that and, unexposed as a stayer, this 5-y-o may well have more to offer. 9lb well in after escaping a penalty for his Aintree rout; should be difficult to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (25/1 -150%) Martha Brae |
25/1(-150%) | (9) Martha Brae 25/1, Consistent last season and gained due reward when adding to her tally at Hereford (25.5f, good to soft) in March. Matched that form when runner-up from revised mark at Warwick the following month, but will need to raise her game if she's to make a winning reappearance in this contest. On a competitive mark but wouldn't want the ground too soft. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (18/1 -29%) Our Power |
18/1(-29%) | (2) Our Power 18/1, Improving and likeable chaser who bagged valuable 3m handicaps at Ascot and Kempton last season. Ran well for a long way in the Grand National when last seen in April, but may prove vulnerable back hurdling for the first time since March 2021. Well treated back over hurdles and returns with his yard firing in the winners. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (40/1 -100%) Only The Bold |
40/1(-100%) | (7) Only The Bold 40/1, Fairly useful hurdles winner for Evan Williams and proved a different proposition over fences in headgear for present connections last term, scoring at Bangor and Hereford. However, he failed to fire at Haydock when last seen in March (since undergone a wind op) and looks vulnerable back hurdling. 2-3 over fences once joining this yard; should be on a good mark for a return to hurdling. |

9th (4) (18/1 -64%) Dolphin Square |
18/1(-64%) | (4) Dolphin Square 18/1, Perfect start to last season when arriving late on the scene to land a competitive handicap at Sandown (23.5f, soft). Ended that campaign on a low-key note, but he resumes on an attractive mark and his record when fresh is a selling point. Lost his way last season but it began well when winning off a 4lb higher mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (5) (50/1 -127%) Grumpy Charley |
50/1(-127%) | (5) Grumpy Charley 50/1, Multiple hurdles winner who got right back to that level when landing a handicap chase here (3¼m, soft) on New Year's Eve. Pulled up both subsequent starts, but he certainly wouldn't be without hope if on-song back hurdling following 8 months off. Hard to predict last season over fences, though he won here off a similar mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (25/1 -108%) Zanza |
25/1(-108%) | (3) Zanza 25/1, Enhanced his very good course record when posting a big career best to land a Grade 2 chase in February. However, he ran no sort of a race returned to this sphere, again at this course, on final start of last season. Should be well handicapped given higher chase mark; doesn't want the ground too soft. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
A comfortable winner at Aintree recently, EQUINUS is turned out quickly again and merits the utmost respect off the same mark. Bold Endeavour has filled second place on his last couple of starts and has to be of interest, while the progressive Hititi arrives on a four-timer. C&D winner Emitom and Our Power, who may be using this as a prep for the Coral Gold Cup next month, are also entitled to be thereabouts.
Though there's still plenty of room for EQUINUS to improve in the jumping department, he clearly has a good engine and will prove a tough nut to crack with no penalty to carry for his recent reappearance success in a conditionals' event under James Turner at Aintree. Emitom scored over C&D on debut for the Alan King yard when last seen in March and, still on a good mark up 5 lb, he could be the one to follow the selection home. Dolphin Square goes well fresh and merits respect, too.
Equinus has obvious claims but it could pay to chance OUR POWER off this lower hurdle mark and with his yard going great guns.

1st (9) (4/1 +47%) Galop De Chasse |
4/1(+47%) | (9) Galop De Chasse 4/1, Bettered brace of runners-up efforts when resuming winning ways at Hereford (2m) in January and dispelled a lesser effort when second at Wincanton (15.7f). Again below best when third at Carlisle final start but yard in decent form ahead of return. Back up in trip. His positive reappearance record catches the eye and he could be a major contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (9/4 +10%) Kandoo Kid |
9/4(+10%) | (8) Kandoo Kid 9/4, Bumper winner and comfortably off the mark in a novice hurdle at Ascot on sole 2021/22 outing. Returned from a year-long absence with a solid showing there a year ago but not so good on handicap debut following month. However, was a decent second at Warwick on chase bow/return last month. Bumped into handicap blot when well-beaten second on chase debut; firmly in calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (15/2 +6%) Our Jet |
15/2(+6%) | (5) Our Jet 15/2, Opened account over fences in handicap at Leicester (20.1f) in December. Ended the campaign with a poor run but still lightly raced in this sphere and should be tuned up for this return. Tailed off when last seen but wind op since; lightly raced and in top hands; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (12/1 -260%) Northern Bound |
12/1(-260%) | (7) Northern Bound 12/1, Just respectable efforts at best this season but no doubt he's potentially well handicapped having won this race last year off 9 lb higher. 9lb lower than when winning this last year but subsequent form has been patchy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (20/1 -43%) Belargus |
20/1(-43%) | (6) Belargus 20/1, Lightly raced in recent seasons and generally struggled, though latest third at Sandown off reduced mark was best effort for a while. Off 8 months. Good 3rd at Sandown in March when last seen; he likes it there but can run well elsewhere. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (12/1 -9%) Raffle Ticket |
12/1(-9%) | (4) Raffle Ticket 12/1, Point/hurdles winner and positive start over fences, winning at Huntingdon and Worcester. Still in contention when falling 3 out at Uttoxeter next time so remains of interest after 6 months off. Lightly raced 9yo who has won two of his three completed chases; retains potential. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (8/1 -14%) Killer Clown |
8/1(-14%) | (1) Killer Clown 8/1, Unreliable type but he ran one of his better races when fifth of 12 in handicap chase at Market Rasen (21.4f, good) 40 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Fair fifth at Market Rasen last time and his trainer is in excellent form; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (50/1 -52%) Movethechains |
50/1(-52%) | (10) Movethechains 50/1, Highly progressive as a novice chaser but just the one decent effort last season, pulled up last 2 starts. Off 6 months. Lingfield specialist who was pulled up at Sandown/Kempton on his last two starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (12/1 +14%) Family Business |
12/1(+14%) | (11) Family Business 12/1, Landed 2m handicap chase here in February and had a wind op before posting a good third back here next time. Disappointed at Kempton final start. Off 6 months. Tailed off at Kempton in April last time but not written off in view of good course form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (11/2 +50%) Gloire D'athon |
11/2(+50%) | (3) Gloire D'athon 11/2, Enjoyed a fine campaign last season and it's easy enough to forgive him for a rare below-par display at Market Rasen on latest start in July. Does look high enough in the weights, however. Merely mid-division in Summer Plate but highly progressive previously & could bounce back. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Last year's winner NORTHERN BOUND returned from wind surgery with a highly creditable effort at Wetherby last month and that should have put him spot on for a repeat bid here. The nine-year-old is 9lb lower than last year and he may have too much for the unexposed Kandoo Kid and Raffle Ticket, who has won two of his last three starts. Others to note include Belargus, Galop De Chasse and Killer Clown.
NORTHERN BOUND took a step back in the right direction when third at Wetherby last month and he's potentially well handicapped if building on that having won this race last year off 9 lb higher. Kandoo Kid proved no match for a subsequent winner on chase bow/return at Warwick but should improve on that, with low-mileage 9-y-o Raffle Ticket another to consider.
The lightly raced 7yo Kandoo Kid is a tempting option but preference is for GALOP DE CHASSE in view of his reappearance record.

GENTLEMAN'S RELISH disappointed on his racecourse debut over C&D in March, but reportedly found the testing ground against him and, as he's held in high regard by his powerful connections, it would be no surprise to see him set the record straight with a victory on his reappearance today. Nicky Henderson's gelding could have most to fear from a pair of interesting newcomers in the shape of Pillar Rock, who is a half-brother to some notable winners, and 32,000-euro purchase Pure Carbon.
GENTLEMAN'S RELISH failed to meet expectations in a class 2 bumper here in March but is worth another chance down in class. Pillar Rock and Laurens Bay make most appeal of the newcomers before market clues.
Nicky Henderson's GENTLEMAN'S RELISH is evidently a lot better than he showed here in March and warrants another chance.

1st (10) (12/1 +14%) Navajo Indy |
12/1(+14%) | (10) Navajo Indy 12/1, Brother to the smart hurdler Navajo Pass and has shown a fair level of ability in bumpers at Exeter and Kempton earlier this year. That experience won't be wasted on him here and no surprise to see him feature back from 7 months off. Made the frame in two races last season; has solid form claims. |

2nd (6) (4/1 +0%) I'm A Lumberjack |
4/1(+0%) | (6) I'm A Lumberjack 4/1, £42,000 3-y-o, Jack Hobbs gelding. Badly in need of experience but ultimately shaped encouragingly when second in valuable C&D sales' bumper on debut back in March, keeping on well from 2f out. Can do better again for good yard. Promising second in valuable big-field event over C&D in March; major player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

13/2(-136%) | (11) Ryan's Rocket 13/2, €48,000 3-y-o, £110,000 4-y-o, Jet Away gelding. 300/1(-200%) | (13) Vintage Icon 300/1, Offered little in bumpers during back-end of last season and he can only be watched here. Needs to improve massively on his spring efforts. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
HIGHLANDS LEGACY was green when second on his racecourse debut over 2m at Ffos Las recently, but he displayed plenty of promise and can improve enough to go one better here. Point-to-point winner and 450,000-euro purchase Histrionic commands respect for the powerful combination of Paul Nicholls and Harry Cobden, while Groovy Blue could also have a say on his first racecourse start.
An interesting bumper with several making appeal, including HISTRIONIC. A €450,000 purchase who tasted success on his only start between the flags, he makes plenty of appeal starting out for the Paul Nicholls yard and can make his presence felt. Of those with experience, Navajo Indy and Highlands Legacy are worthy of note. Groovy Blue and Guard The Moon also demand a market check.
Rules debutant HISTRIONIC has particularly strong credentials and is first choice ahead of I'm A Lumberjack.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
