CELTIC CHIEFTAIN cost 450,000gns at the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale last autumn and the son of No Nay Never is a half-brother to two winners including the useful Janoobi. His dam was successful as a juvenile and it will be interesting to see how strong the Ballydoyle representative is in the market. Tommy McJohn was purchased for 80,000 euro as a yearling and hails from a family that have done well at two, while the Blue Point filly Make Haste is another newcomer to keep a close eye on. Hugo's Girl got upset in the stalls but was far from disgraced on debut behind Usdi Atohi at Dundalk last month.
CELTIC CHIEFTAN has a price tag and pedigree to suggest he'll be above average, and he gets the nod before market clues. Tommy McJohn is another interesting newcomer, while Weegeebear shaped well on debut and could take a big step forward.
Aidan O'Brien, 2-7 with his two-year-olds so far, won this in 2021 and 2022 and expensive yearling CELTIC CHIEFTAIN is bred to be speedy

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (9/1 -13%) Inishmot Prince |
9/1(-13%) | (1) Inishmot Prince 9/1, Latest win at Dundalk in February. 11/2, good second of 10 in handicap at Dundalk (6f) 50 days ago. Holds solid claims. 9-time AW winner; 0-9 on turf but run some fair races and can run from lower turf mark. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
KEKE appears versatile in terms of ground conditions and got off the mark when beating Rathbranchurch on heavy at Bellewstown last autumn. The Eddie Lynam-trained gelding made a pleasing reappearance in a 21-runner Navan handicap a fortnight ago and should progress with that outing under his belt. Inishmot Prince has gained all nine career wins at Dundalk and is a threat coming here in great form from the all-weather and rated significantly lower on turf. So Majestic won twice for Katie McGivern last summer including at this venue and is fit from a spring campaign in Dundalk, while others to consider include Jazzy Dancer, Bold Optimist and Mehman.
Lots with chances. KEKE shaped well on his return when fifth in a big-field Navan handicap so looks the way to go on a lenient mark. Mehman heads the list of dangers on the back of his good Curragh fifth, while Bold Optimist, Inishmot Prince and So Majestic all need factoring into this very open handicap.
KEKE ran a belter on his seasonal return last month and if he finds any improvement for that outing, he could take some beating

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Ger Lyons has already been among the winners in the juvenile division this season and ONE SMACK MAC could provide the Glenburnie yard with another victory. The Kodiac colt cost 150,000gns as a yearling and is a full brother to smart Group 3-winning juvenile Glounthaune. Snapdragon is an obvious threat from powerful quarters and the son of No Nay Never, who was bought for 240,000gns at the Tattersalls Book 1 Sale, is a half-brother to three winners. Pompano Beach is by Ten Sovereigns and out of a Fastnet Rock mare whose three previous runners have all won, while the Profitable colt Limit Off is another to consider.
Nearly all newcomers, and SNAPDRAGON, Pompano Beach and One Smack Mac make easily the most appeal on paper, in that order.
An expensive yearling and a brother to a 2yo Group 3 winner over 7f, \bONE SMACK JACK\ ticks a lot of boxes and gets a tentative vote

MIDNIGHT FIRE has won early in the turf season for the past three years and comes here off a fine effort on his reappearance at the Curragh last month. The Mayson gelding beat all bar Mercurial in that 21-runner event and remains on a competitive mark. Mount Ruapehu won a Cork maiden as a juvenile and added to his tally on a first start for Andy Slattery at Dundalk in January. He ran well on soft ground at the Curragh on Monday and should be suited by this sounder surface. Coumshingaun has gained all three wins over six and should progress from her reappearance at Cork, while Sporting Hero and Dream Today are others for the shortlist.
The vote goes to BLAIRMAYNE, who should be spot-on following a reappearance spin on the all-weather and is now 4 lb below the mark off which he gained the most recent of his three victories over this C&D. Provided that he is ready to roll, Only Spoofing could emerge as the main danger ahead of Midnight Fire and Sporting Hero.
A chance is taken on the fitness of CASH OR CRYPTO who had an excuse when last seen and had recorded a 6f win on his penultimate run

2/1(+27%) | (2) Eclipse Emerald 2/1, Promising type. Second of 14 in maiden at the Curragh (6f, heavy, 7/4) 20 days ago, slowly away. Makes handicap debut. May well do better. Only found one too good in both runs so far and big player if he comes on for latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (10/3 +26%) Kortez Bay |
10/3(+26%) | (4) Kortez Bay 10/3, Good third of 14 in maiden (6/1) at the Curragh (6f, heavy) 20 days ago, never nearer. Makes handicap debut. Others more persuasive. Plenty of promise in maidens and the Ballyhane; mark looks about right. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (13) (6/1 +0%) Tai Tam Bay |
6/1(+0%) | (13) Tai Tam Bay 6/1, 1 win from 1 run this year. 6/1, career best when winning 12-runner handicap at this C&D (soft) 12 days ago, driven clear. Merits consideration. Wide margin C&D win on return 12 days ago; 12lb higher but could come on for that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (10/1 -33%) Ohailbhic |
10/1(-33%) | (5) Ohailbhic 10/1, Thrice-raced winner. 1 win from 2 runs this year. Won 8-runner maiden at Dundalk (6f, 11/4) 85 days ago, always holding on. Makes handicap debut. Likely to improve. Won at 3rd attempt in AW maiden and form boosted; should be effective if as good on turf. |

7th (14) (40/1 +20%) Verified |
40/1(+20%) | (14) Verified 40/1, Respectable fifth of 14 in maiden (22/1) at Navan (5f, good to soft) 4 days ago, unable to sustain effort. Blinkers on 1st time. Makes handicap debut. Difficult ask. Promise as a 2yo but has kicked on this term and blinkers now tried; mark looks tough. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (15) (66/1 +34%) Valentino Express |
66/1(+34%) | (15) Valentino Express 66/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 10 in nursery at Dundalk (5f, 12/1). Off 6 months. Rejoined yard after leaving D.J.Bunyan & G.O'Leary. Promise at 2 but tough ask from out of the handicap here returning from a break; gelded. |

12th (3) (14/1 -155%) Edwardian |
14/1(-155%) | (3) Edwardian 14/1, Lightly-raced winner. Course winner. 5/1, 11 lengths last of 7 to Megarry in listed race at Fairyhouse (6f, good to soft). Off 7 months. Makes handicap debut. 14th (12) (50/1 -257%) Port Louis |
50/1(-257%) | (12) Port Louis 50/1, Last of 9 in handicap at this course (8f, soft, 28/1) 12 days ago. Entitled to come on for that run and this drop in trip is an interesting move. Roscommon maiden winner last summer but low key return and needs further than this. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
ECLIPSE EMERALD has twice had Kortez Bay about two lengths behind when filling the runner-up spot on both outings to date and is sent straight into handicap company. The form of his second to Follow Me at the Curragh last month has been working out quite well and this sounder surface could bring about more improvement. Edwardian beat Perfect Judgement in a maiden here over five last summer and was quite highly tried in two subsequent starts, while Tai Tam Bay won easily over C&D last month but has been given a hefty 15lb hike as a result. The form of Ohailbhic's win in a Dundalk maiden has been boosted since and Dylan Browne McMonagle is again on board.
Having shaped well in a maiden at the Curragh on his seasonal reappearance, KORTEZ BAY is of strong interest now pitched into a handicap. He was just behind Eclipse Emerald that day but came from much further back than that rival and the forecast quicker ground here will be in his favour. Eclipse Emerald remains open to improvement and is clear seconc choice ahead of Tai Tam Bay and Ohailbhic.
Some nice types including ECLIPSE EMERALD (nap) who has hit the crossbar in both starts so far and should come on for his recent run

3rd (3) (3/1 -71%) Je Zous |
3/1(-71%) | (3) Je Zous 3/1, Useful filly. 12 lengths third of 6 to Making Dreams in Group 3 event (evens) at Saint-Cloud (10.4f, heavy) 40 days ago. Leading form claims. Good second in Newmarket Listed at back-end; well-held third in French Group 3 on return. |

4th (1) (10/3 +5%) Flight Of Fancy |
10/3(+5%) | (1) Flight Of Fancy 10/3, Twice-raced maiden. 9/2, third of 7 in maiden at Leopardstown (10f, heavy) 31 days ago. Yard in good form. Open to progress so in the picture. Improvement required but will be racing on better ground for the first time which may help. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (9/2 +25%) Higher Leaves |
9/2(+25%) | (2) Higher Leaves 9/2, Won 12-runner maiden at Dundalk (10.7f, 11/4) 36 days ago. Should have more to offer. Rated 81 after AW victory so has to improve a fair bit; holds a Ribblesdale entry. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
SEA THE BOSS scored in good style on debut at Tipperary and reappeared quickly when a creditable fourth behind Kitty Rose in a Listed race at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend. She struggled subsequently on soft ground at the Curragh and is bred to appreciate this step up in trip. Je Zous won a mile maiden at Thurles last autumn and was subsequently second to Regal Jubilee in a Listed race at Newmarket but was a soundly beaten third when reappearing in a Group 3 at Saint-Cloud. Madame Celeste is a well-bred daughter of Galileo who scored on debut at Dundalk last November, while Flight Of Fancy also boasts a fine pedigree and could improve on this sounder surface.
JE ZOUS holds the clear edge on form so Joseph O'Brien's filly is taken to resume winning ways at the chief expense of Dundalk scorer Higher Leaves. Both Flight Of Fancy and Madam Celeste have better days ahead of them too and need factoring into this intriguing Group 3 contest.
Not a strong race for the grade but tricky to call; a chance is taken on the well-bred AW maiden winner MADAME CELESTE

13/8(+19%) | (2) Old Faithful 13/8, Lightly-raced maiden. 4/1, respectable third of 15 in maiden at the Curragh (7f, heavy) 54 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Yard having good spell so he's in the mix. Placed in 3 juvenile starts; finished tired when respectable 3rd on return; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/2 +46%) Gibbs Island |
7/2(+46%) | (3) Gibbs Island 7/2, Fairly useful gelding. Creditable fourth of 9 in handicap at this course (8f, soft, 18/1) 12 days ago. Back up in trip and can make his presence felt. Won Curragh maiden last year but not at same level since; best watched up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (11/2 -57%) Messerschmitt |
11/2(-57%) | (1) Messerschmitt 11/2, Thurles debut winner before an improved fourth of 5 in minor event at Cork (10.2f, good to soft) 15 days ago. One to consider. Likeable debut when green last year and tough ask on return; better ground should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (15/8 -36%) Naturally Nimble |
15/8(-36%) | (4) Naturally Nimble 15/8, Promising sort. 7/4, third of 6 in maiden at Leopardstown (8f, heavy) 31 days ago, left with lot to do. Up in trip. Open to improvement. Player. 2nd to Grosvenor Square in Galway maiden; stayed on for 3rd on return; 1m2f+ should suit. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
NATURALLY NIMBLE was second to a subsequent Group 3 winner on his only start at two and gave the impression he was ready for a step up to this trip when third in a Leopardstown maiden over a mile. The winner of that was Listed-placed on Monday and the runner-up scored at Chester two days later. Messerschmitt dead-heated in a Thurles maiden on his sole juvenile outing and his rating was raised by 6lb after he finished fourth in a useful contest at Cork last month. He has only raced on soft ground so far. Old Faithful has his share of ability but hasn't convinced with his attitude under pressure.
NATURALLY NIMBLE didn't enjoy the rub of the green when third at Leopardstown last time and can open his account at the chief expense of Gibbs Island, who has some fairly useful form to his name and is not taken lightly. Old Faithful and Messerschmitt need considering too in an open contest.
MESSERSCHMITT made a promising start to his career when winning a maiden and he was amongst some nice types on his return

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Quicker ground and a step up in trip should suit DAKOTA GIRL, who should prove much better than she showed in the mud over 7f at Cork on debut. Jessica Harrington's filly was short of room at a crucial stage that day and a much-improved effort today would come as no surprise. Quadruple has place claims with improvement likely from her return at Leopardstown where she was fifth over this trip. Golden Ocean, out of a mare who won two French Classics for Andre Fabre, is a newcomer to note.
RED VIBURNUM showed plenty when a close third on her debut at the Curragh and was far from disgraced fast tracked to a Group 1 when fifth in the Moyglare. She should take plenty of beating back in maiden company on her return. Quadruple shaped as if needing her comeback and remains with potential, while Golden Ocean is the pick of the newcomers on pedigree.
A fair fifth at Leopardstown on heavy ground, QUADRUPLE should be better suited by this surface and gets the vote.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
