1st (6) (3.2/1 +20%) Gone Rogue |
3.2/1(+20%) | (6) Gone Rogue 3.2/1, Promising type. Second of 6 in maiden (5/1) at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) on debut 16 days ago. Should progress, particularly over 7f. Looks sure to improve, with the extra 1f a help, and that puts him into serious contention. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (0.83/1 +17%) Character Testing |
0.83/1(+17%) | (2) Character Testing 0.83/1, Knew what was required when second of 10 in maiden at Kempton (7f, 5/1) on debut 16 days ago. Very much the one to beat. 5-1, made most when short-headed in ten-runner maiden at Kempton (7f, AW) 16 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (4.5/1 +55%) Monsieur Melee |
4.5/1(+55%) | (3) Monsieur Melee 4.5/1, Twice-raced colt. 15/2, fifth of 9 in novice event at Ripon (8f, good to soft) 11 days ago. Improved when fifth of nine at Ripon (1m, good to soft) 11 days ago; each-way contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/1 -75%) Arantes Nascimento |
7/1(-75%) | (1) Arantes Nascimento 7/1, Pleasing start when sixth of 14 in maiden at Thirsk (6f, good to soft) on debut 12 days ago, keeping on well from a long way back. Open to progress. 5-1, slowly away and very green when sixth of 14 at Thirsk (6f); could be a lot wiser. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (14/1 -133%) Ready Or Nott |
14/1(-133%) | (9) Ready Or Nott 14/1, Eighth of 9 in maiden at Epsom (7f, good to firm, 13/2) on debut 12 days ago. 13-2, low-level form when eighth of nine in maiden at Epsom (7f, good) 12 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (50/1 +24%) Pearl Sands |
50/1(+24%) | (4) Pearl Sands 50/1, Already gelded and hooded, he didn't show much when sixth of 8 in novice event at Newcastle (8f) on debut 15 days ago. 80-1 and hooded, modest form from rear when sixth of eight in novice at Newcastle (1m, AW). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (125/1 +17%) Supreme Tenacity |
125/1(+17%) | (8) Supreme Tenacity 125/1, Twice-raced gelding. Tongue strap on for first time, seventh of 8 in minor event at Thirsk (7f, good to soft, 150/1) 12 days ago. Gelding/wind operations in June; modest form at Thirsk (7f, good; tongue tied) 12 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (125/1 -56%) Shatin Venture |
125/1(-56%) | (7) Shatin Venture 125/1, 100/1, last of 7 in novice event at this course (5f, good) on debut 19 days ago, slowly away. Significantly up in trip. 100-1 when last of seven in a novice at Musselburgh (5f, good) 19 days ago. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
GONE ROGUE rallied to claim second having been outpaced passing the two-furlong pole on his debut at Hamilton, but Charlie Johnston's charge can take a step forward upped in trip and repel the likely challenge of Character Testing, who was narrowly denied at Kempton 16 days ago. Swift Salian continues to run well in defeat and he should be thereabouts if performing to a similar level.
CHARACTER TESTING came within a short-head of making a winning start at Kempton 16 days ago and with that early zip a definite plus at this speed-favouring venue, he'll take some stopping. The step up to 7f is sure to suit Gone Rogue and he's the obvious threat, with Arantes Nascimento sure to know more this time.
The conspicuous promise shown by CHARACTER TESTING and Gone Rogue on their debuts makes them the pair to concentrate on.

1st (5) (6/1 -33%) Blue Moon Baby |
6/1(-33%) | (5) Blue Moon Baby 6/1, Fifth of 12 in maiden (50/1) at Catterick (5f, good to firm) 49 days ago. Makes handicap debut. 50-1 at Catterick latest (5f, good) and shaped okay; one to consider on handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (3.5/1 +53%) Sergeant Mayer |
3.5/1(+53%) | (3) Sergeant Mayer 3.5/1, Didn't go unbacked but ran a bit below form when eighth of 13 in nursery at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 13 days ago, slowly away. More needed to defy this mark. Just 5-1 for nursery at Beverley but slowly into stride, pulled hard and never dangerous. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (18/1 -100%) Lady Bouquet |
18/1(-100%) | (8) Lady Bouquet 18/1, Seventh of 12 in maiden at Catterick (6f, good, 100/1) 35 days ago, slowly away. Makes handicap debut. No impact; had wind surgery after latest start and now makes her handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (50/1 -100%) Rock Lodge |
50/1(-100%) | (7) Rock Lodge 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Blinkered for first time, last of 10 in nursery at Southwell (6.1f, 25/1) 10 days ago. Needs to up his game. Fourth of five on debut but no worthwhile form in his three starts since, latest a nursery. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (12/1 -20%) Musical Diva |
12/1(-20%) | (4) Musical Diva 12/1, Last of 6 in maiden at Hamilton (6f, good to soft, 11/1) 16 days ago. Cheekpieces on first time and no surprise were she to bounce back for her good yard. Could be more interesting in first-time cheekpieces on handicap debut; needs market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (14/1 -180%) Lady Showcasing |
14/1(-180%) | (1) Lady Showcasing 14/1, Last of 6 in novice event at Lingfield (5f, AW, 22/1) 15 days ago. Makes handicap debut and she needs to bounce back, but that is entirely possible given the yard she represents. 2nd in May (5f, AW) on second start; has not lived up to that; claimer for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (3.5/1 -56%) Zaphea |
3.5/1(-56%) | (6) Zaphea 3.5/1, Improved form when runner-up at Bath and backed that up when third of 13 in nursery at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 13 days ago. Shortlist material. Followed one good run with another in last two nurseries (Bath and Beverley); back up 3lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (9) (2.75/1 +45%) Swiftly |
2.75/1(+45%) | (9) Swiftly 2.75/1, Cheekpieces on for first time, fifth of 13 in nursery (25/1) at Beverley (5f, good to firm) 13 days ago. Fifth of 13 at Beverley (5f, good to firm) last time was easily her closest finish. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (11/1 +21%) Farah M |
11/1(+21%) | (2) Farah M 11/1, Blinkered for first time, last of 8 in nursery at Newcastle (7.1f, 14/1) 15 days ago. Looks a hard ride and drops to 5f here. Easily the pick of his four runs came on second start; blinkered in nursery latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A fairly open contest, in which a chance can be taken on BLUE MOON BABY. John Quinn's filly, a half-sister to two winners, showed enough across her three runs so far to suggest she can be a force on this nursery debut. An opening mark of 57 looks fair. The largely consistent Zaphea is likely to be on the premises once more, while Musical Diva could find some improvement for the application of first-time cheekpieces.
ZAPHEA has upped her game on her last 2 starts, finishing placed at Bath and Beverley and on that evidence, she can win a nursery. Swiftly is a danger at the foot of the weights, with Lady Showcasing another to consider.
With tenuous claims almost across the board, they need a close look in the betting. BLUE MOON BABY is preferred to Zaphea.

1st (5) (2.5/1 +17%) Love De Vega |
2.5/1(+17%) | (5) Love De Vega 2.5/1, 8/1, career best when winning 6-runner handicap at Hamilton (6f, good to soft) 16 days ago, well on top at finish for rider who has a 2-4 record on him. Back to winning ways at Hamilton (6f) recently and won over 7f last year; one to consider. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (3/1 -50%) Abduction |
3/1(-50%) | (1) Abduction 3/1, 8/1, career best when winning 8-runner handicap at Ayr (7f, good to firm) 13 days ago by 4½ lengths from Judgment Call. Raised 7 lb and this place often doesn't suit his usual hold-up tactics. Comfortable win at Ayr recently; could do with a strong gallop but he's respected up 7lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (2.5/1 +55%) Judgment Call |
2.5/1(+55%) | (3) Judgment Call 2.5/1, C&D winner in August. Respectable 4½ lengths second of 8 to Abduction in handicap (9/4) at Ayr (7f, good to firm) 13 days ago. 5 lb better off this with that rival this time. Easy C&D win this month followed by second to Abduction at Ayr; can go well once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (9/1 -6%) Manigordo |
9/1(-6%) | (4) Manigordo 9/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Beverley in June. 9/1, 8¾ lengths seventh of 10 to Judgment Call in C&D handicap (good) 19 days ago. Two-time C&D winner, but down the field the last twice (C&D latest) and has to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (5.5/1 -120%) On A Session |
5.5/1(-120%) | (2) On A Session 5.5/1, C&D winner in April. Respectable seventh of 16 in handicap at Galway (7f, soft, 8/1) 24 days ago. Considered back here. Below par on last three starts but on a handy mark and last two wins have come over C&D. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
ABDUCTION thumped his rivals, including Judgment Call (second) at Ayr last time, and though the latter is 5lb better off today, that might not be enough to stop Jim Goldie's charge from following up. Hamilton scorer Love De Vega can mount another stern challenge from 4lb higher, while On A Session, who remains well treated, could be involved at a venue which he has recorded two C&D successes.
LOVE DE VEGA won over 6f at Hamilton last time but he's equally as effective at 7f and can strike again under Ben Curtis. On A Session returns to the scene of his win in April and might give the selection most to do ahead of Judgment Call.
The in-form JUDGMENT CALL is taken to add to his win over C&D two starts ago. On A Session is second choice.

1st (6) (1.75/1 +22%) Baez |
1.75/1(+22%) | (6) Baez 1.75/1, Bagged first win for Jim Goldie in decisive fashion at Catterick (15.9f) last month and followed up in a stronger contest at York (16.2f, good) 17 days later. 6 lb higher now but another bold bid anticipated. Upped 6lb for this hat-trick bid but there was a lot to like in those two wins last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (3.33/1 +49%) Simple Star |
3.33/1(+49%) | (4) Simple Star 3.33/1, Won 3 of his 4 starts on Flat this year, latest when narrowly taking 8-runner handicap at this course (12.5f, good, 7/2) 19 days ago. Just 1 lb higher now but steps into unknown territory trip wise. Won three of last four starts and unlucky in the other but they were all about 1m3f/1m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (3.33/1 +5%) Yorkindness |
3.33/1(+5%) | (2) Yorkindness 3.33/1, Free-going type who has enjoyed a productive summer, winning a trio of Pontefract handicaps (all 17.1f), latest in ready fashion 10 days ago. Carries 5 lb penalty but not taken lightly. Has clicked at Pontefract (2m1f) where this season's wins have made it 3-3 at that track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (8.5/1 -31%) Glasses Up |
8.5/1(-31%) | (5) Glasses Up 8.5/1, Back to winning ways at Ayr (10f) earlier this month and matched that form when creditable second of 13 in handicap at this course (14f, good) 19 days ago. 2 lb rise fair and will be a player if handling this stiffer test of stamina. In good form lately but he's done little in his rare starts over further than 1m6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (5/1 +55%) Blow Your Horn |
5/1(+55%) | (1) Blow Your Horn 5/1, Completed a hat-trick over staying trips in June but not been in same form the last twice and is 6 lb above his last winning mark. Hat-trick (1m6f, 2m and 2m2f) in June on good and good to firm; partial revival latest. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Yorkindness bids for a hat-trick after a double over 2m1f at Pontefract this month, but a 5lb penalty for the latest of those victories leaves her with no margin for error and preference is for TWO AULD PALS. Jim Goldie's five-year-old made it three wins from his last five starts when staying on to beat a subsequent winner over 1m5f at Hamilton latest and although he has gone up 4lb for that, he is in the form of his life and the trip should be no issue (won over 2m1f in June). Baez is another arriving on a three-timer but she has a 6lb hike to contend with for her York success late last month.
Several of these arrive in top form but BAEZ proved better than ever when scoring at York last month and gets the vote. Stable companion Two Auld Pals is feared most.
A return to form from Blow Your Horn may pose the chief threat to the hat-trick seeking BAEZ (nap).

1st (5) (5/1 -25%) How Bizarre |
5/1(-25%) | (5) How Bizarre 5/1, This front runner is enjoying an excellent season, including a pair of 1m wins here at the start of the summer. Arrives on a hat-trick after 7.5f Beverley wins in recent weeks and another bold showing is on the cards. 5-time course winner who has scored at Beverley the last twice; could be tough to reel in. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/1 +50%) Rory |
7/1(+50%) | (3) Rory 7/1, Unreliable sort. Course winner. Eighteen runs since last win in 2022. 12/1, last of 6 in handicap at Hamilton (6f, soft) 25 days ago. Needs things to drop right. Soft/heavy ground may not have suited the last twice; good second over C&D last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/1 -33%) Sparkle In His Eye |
6/1(-33%) | (1) Sparkle In His Eye 6/1, Landed the second C&D succes of his career when seeing off 8 rivals 19 days ago. Has a good draw and a 4 lb rise seems unlikely to prevent another prominent showing. Enhanced good C&D record when winning here last time; he's a solid contender once more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (9/1 -20%) Merricourt |
9/1(-20%) | (8) Merricourt 9/1, Creditable 2 lengths third of 7 to Monhammer over C&D (good to firm) 58 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Another who could be in the shake-up. On 16-race losing run but some good C&D form this season and he's an each-way possible. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (28/1 -409%) Monaadhil |
28/1(-409%) | (9) Monaadhil 28/1, C&D winner. 9/2, creditable second of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford (1m) 15 days ago. Can make presence felt. C&D winner who has been in good form at Chelmsford, but didn't shine over C&D this June. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (12/1 -33%) Shifter |
12/1(-33%) | (10) Shifter 12/1, Left reappearance behind when a 22/1 winner at Ayr (1m, good to firm) 13 days ago, just holding on. Raised 3lb. Won at Ayr recently on second stable start and runner-up has since gone one better; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (3.2/1 +47%) Non Mollare |
3.2/1(+47%) | (6) Non Mollare 3.2/1, Three wins from 14 runs this year. Career best when winning 12-runner handicap at this course (9f, good, 10/1) 19 days ago, soon clear. Back down in trip. Comfortable win here 3 weeks ago; that was over 1m1f but she's still entitled to respect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (7.5/1 +25%) Coaxing |
7.5/1(+25%) | (4) Coaxing 7.5/1, Won at Southwell in January. Placed on next 3 outings and it's worth forgiving last week's Catterick run as she was trapped wide from a poor draw. Trapped wide when well beaten at Catterick last Monday; good third there previously. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (40/1 -21%) Huraiz |
40/1(-21%) | (11) Huraiz 40/1, Thirty runs since last win in 2019. Last of 13 in handicap at Ayr (6f, good, 25/1) 37 days ago, losing all chance when rearing at the start. His mark continues to fall but for good reason and he's hard to fancy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (8/1 -7%) Monhammer |
8/1(-7%) | (2) Monhammer 8/1, C&D winner under Callum Rodriguez in July. Only eighth to Sparkle In His Eye back here last month but capable of bouncing back with Rodriguez, who has a good record on him, returning to the saddle. Disappointing over C&D last time but won over C&D two starts ago and could bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (16/1 -60%) The Caltonian |
16/1(-60%) | (7) The Caltonian 16/1, 10/3, bit below form fifth of 10 in handicap at Carlisle (7f, good to firm) 7 days ago, merely closing up late. 0-8 but has shown ability and might not be far away if things pans out favourably. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
A wide-open 7f handicap and only a tentative vote goes to SPARKLE IN HIS EYE, who now has C&D form figures of 6121 after winning here 19 days ago and a 4lb rise in the ratings may not be enough to halt him in this company. Monhammer was a little disappointing when finishing eighth in that same contest but didn't get a clear run and must be considered on his taking victory over this track and trip off 3lb lower the time before. How Bizarre also has a good course record and arrives on the back of a double over the extended 7f at Beverley, while Non Mollare won with enough in hand over 1m1f here latest to suggest a 6lb rise is workable, but the drop in trip is a concern.
HOW BIZARRE really has rediscovered the winning habit this summer and might be able to defy the handicapper again under Tudhope. Callum Rodriguez usually gets a good tune out of Monhammer and Linda Perratt's 5-y-o is second choice ahead of Sparkle In His Eye and Coaxing.
The front-runner HOW BIZARRE arrives on a roll having won at Beverley the last twice and is taken to complete the hat-trick.

1st (10) (5.5/1 +8%) Chinese Spirit |
5.5/1(+8%) | (10) Chinese Spirit 5.5/1, Course winner. Seventeen runs since last win in 2022. Fourth of 6 in handicap at Ayr (1m, good to firm, 6/1) 13 days ago. Enters the reckoning under Rodriguez. Runner-up four times this season (twice over C&D) but not at same level on last three runs. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (8/1 -45%) Tacitus |
8/1(-45%) | (3) Tacitus 8/1, Winner at Redcar (1m) in June but only eighth of 12 from this mark at Musselburgh since. Inconsistent but won at Redcar two starts ago and might not be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (2.5/1 +38%) Yeeeaah |
2.5/1(+38%) | (2) Yeeeaah 2.5/1, Remains a maiden after 19 Flat runs. Placed twice for this yard in July (including C&D) and did too much too soon in refitted blinkers (discarded) at Ayr (7f, good, 4/1) 18 days ago. Capable of bouncing back. 0-19 but went very close over C&D last month and set off too fast at Ayr last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (2.75/1 +31%) Propagation |
2.75/1(+31%) | (7) Propagation 2.75/1, Remains a maiden after 19 Flat runs. Creditable third of 12 in handicap (15/2) at this course (9f, good) 19 days ago. 0-22 but has run well on last four starts and this is a weak contest; on the shortlist. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (33/1 -83%) Copper Mountain |
33/1(-83%) | (9) Copper Mountain 33/1, Twelve runs since last win in 2022. 40/1, eighth of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW) 15 days ago. Down to a mark in the 40s for the first time in a while but could only consider if backed. On a much-reduced mark but she's struggled for form since April. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (22/1 -38%) Explorers Way |
22/1(-38%) | (8) Explorers Way 22/1, Looks regressive for current yard. 28/1, ninth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (1m) 15 days ago. His mark has tumbled but he's very hard to fancy on this summer's evidence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (18/1 -227%) Revoquable |
18/1(-227%) | (5) Revoquable 18/1, Latest win at Beverley in July. 11/2, seventh of 11 in handicap back at Beverley (7.4f, good to firm) 14 days ago. Others more persuasive. Not at the top of his game the last twice but won last month & not ruled out in weak race. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (10/1 -67%) Cosa Sara |
10/1(-67%) | (6) Cosa Sara 10/1, Blinkered first time, creditable sixth of 10 in handicap at Newcastle (1m, 8/1) 15 days ago. Not discounted. Mixed form this month but on a handy mark and could be a contender if things drop right. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (28/1 +30%) Tarnhelm |
28/1(+30%) | (12) Tarnhelm 28/1, Three wins from 78 Flat runs. Forty four runs since last win in 2020. Last of 7 in handicap at Ayr (13f, good to firm, 18/1) 13 days ago, typically slowly away. Significantly back down in trip. 8yo who has been beaten on her last 44 starts going back to June 2020. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (1) (7.5/1 -7%) Makalu |
7.5/1(-7%) | (1) Makalu 7.5/1, Latest win at Redcar (1m) in May. Failed to stay when below-form sixth of 12 in handicap (16/1) at this course (9f, good) 19 days ago. Enters calculations back at 1m. Below par here last time but some good runs this season and in the mix if back on song. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (150/1 -200%) Star Of Markinch |
150/1(-200%) | (11) Star Of Markinch 150/1, Poor maiden who is opposable again. Well beaten on her 5 starts this year, over various trips, and others make greater appeal. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Propagation has made the frame on his last two outings and a sliding handicap mark brings him very much into contention, while Yeeeaah has been running well in defeat but remains a maiden after 19 starts. TACITUS' 1m clear-cut victory at Redcar in June is the most eye-catching piece of recent form and he wasn't beaten far off his revised mark over 1m1f here last time, so he looks set to go close now back down in trip. Revoquable and Chinese Spirit are others to consider.
YEEEAAH can probably be given the benefit of the doubt for last time after likely going off too hard in refitted blinkers (discarded now). Prior to that he'd been shaping as if he could win for the Tristan Davidson yard and he's given another chance. Chinese Spirit, the mount of Callum Rodriguez, and Makalu, who will appreciate the drop back to 1m, head the dangers.
Ths is the racecard key.
