(4) Torosay 9/2, Showed ability over hurdles and really got the hang of things over fences during the spring, running out an emphatic winner at first crack at 3m at Hexham in April. Shaped as if needing the run on comeback at Carlisle and remains unexposed at this sort of trip.
Ended last season in good form but made a low-key return last month.

C&D winner last season and ran well at Carlisle last month (albeit well held in the end).

12:27 Musselburgh Handicap Chase (Class 5) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

GIPSY LEE ROSE left a disappointing seasonal reappearance behind when scoring gamely over 3m2f at Carlisle on her penultimate start and she shaped like she was still in good heart when second off a 5lb higher mark over the same C&D most recently. In what looks a winnable affair for the grade, she gets the nod to return to winning ways despite being nudged up another 1lb. Goodtimes Badtimes was narrowly denied when finishing runner-up over 2m5f at Sedgefield recently and, stepping up in trip, another bold bid is expected off 1lb higher. Torosay is also noteworthy.

NIGHTS IN VENICE is back on a winning mark and should strip fitter for his comeback run, so could be the answer. Torosay is another who's expected to come on for his reappearance and is next best ahead of the in-form Gipsy Lee Rose.

The pick is GOODTIMES BADTIMES, who went close on his latest outing at Sedgefield in October has a notable course hurdle win on his CV.

12:57 Musselburgh Maiden Hurdle (Class 4) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

This appeals as a good opportunity for MALICASH to open his account. Donald McCain's unexposed hurdler has shown signs of ability in defeat and, sporting a tongue-tie on his first attempt at this trip, he looks the one to be with in a very a winnable affair. Point-to-point winner Clearisthewater was last seen finishing a good second at long odds over 2m at Plumpton recently and another prominent showing appears likely. High Dancer rates the pick of the remainder.

MALICASH sets a clear standard on his hurdling debut form and should prove hard to beat if returning to anywhere near that level in a first-time tongue strap. Flawless Clarity finished runner-up on his completed start in Irish points and could be the one to give the selection most to think about.

After keeping on for second over 2m on his hurdling debut CLEARISTHEWATER has travelled a long way to tackle 3m here.

13:27 Musselburgh Handicap Chase (Class 3) 24f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.

Hurdles winner INOX ALLEN made a pleasing start to life over fences when finishing a staying-on third over 3m in a warm Uttoxeter handicap chase on his seasonal reappearance and, with the promise of improvement to come, it would be no surprise if he were to land the spoils. Last seen finishing third over 2m3f, this step up in trip should help Roger Pol and he looks the main danger to the selection for the in-form Jamie Snowden team. Cardamon Hill is respected most out of the remainder.

Lucinda Russell's INOX ALLEN caught the eye on his chasing bow when a patiently-ridden third at Uttoxeter so looks the way to go here. Roger Pol has made a good start to life over fences too and rates a big danger though, with Leading Force also weighted to have a say in an interesting contest.

Sedgefield winner LEADING FORCE may have needed last month's reappearance run and might be allowed an uncontested lead today.

13:57 Musselburgh Handicap Hurdle (Class 4) 20f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

SUMMERGROUNDS has been running well so far this season and arrives here on the back of a second over 2m3f at Ayr in November. A 2lb rise and a 51-day break are slight concerns, but the nine-year-old still tops the shortlist. Kilbrainy could prove to be the main threat on the back of a couple of decent efforts, while Hostile Hotelier looks next best.

SUMMERGROUNDS has held his form well this season and is taken to notch a second career win. Klitschko and Park Annonciade are feared most.

This can go to Flat stayer RORY THE CAT (nap), who won twice over hurdles here last season and and ought to be suited by this new trip.

14:27 Musselburgh Handicap Hurdle (Class 5) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.

HEART ABOVE has won two of his last three starts and a 5lb rise for the most recent of those wins, which came over C&D in November, may not be enough to stop him in this company. Game Management remains unexposed and an opening mark of 100 may underestimate the four-year-old, while Sea Legend edges out Milajess to be the pick of the remainder.

The one who appeals most is GAME MANAGEMENT, who followed his winning hurdles debut at Catterick with an arguably even better effort under a penalty at the same course next time. The 4-y-o makes his handicap debut in this sphere off what looks a workable mark. Bashful may well return to form back at this venue and, if so, he will be a threat off a mark just 1 lb higher than for the second of his two C&D wins last winter. The in-form Heart Above and Sea Legend are others to consider.

In view of his Flat ability, SEA LEGEND could be dangerous in this grade of handicap. Heart Above is second choice.

14:57 Musselburgh Handicap Chase (Class 4) 16f Race Class Flow

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

James Ewart trained last year's winner of this race and he runs two today, with THISTLE ASK boasting much stronger claims than stablemate Fostered Phil. The former was having his first start over fences when finishing second at Ayr and he can go close if building on that promising effort. C&D winner Mint Gold faced a tougher assignment at Sandown last time and the veteran should fare better in this lower grade, while stable companion Chapel Green scored over this track and trip off 6lb lower in November and could go well again.

Having made most on his chasing debut last season, CHASE A FORTUNE produced a good effort when runner-up at Sedgefield in October and he is taken to bounce back from a lesser run last time with cheekpieces applied. He can see off the challenge of Thistle Ask, who made an encouraging seasonal/chase debut, while Mint Gold could also go well back at this C&D.

Second to the odds-on favourite on his chasing debut, THISTLE ASK is selected in the hope he can dominate off the same mark here.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.

A bumper winner at Kelso, Beyond The Verge ran well again under a penalty when runner-up at the same venue last time. He can feature once again, but the point-to-point winner SOLDIER IN MAYO debuts under Rules having joined Donald McCain's yard, and the five-year-old may prove good enough to take advantage of the weight concession from Susan Corbett's gelding. Caballo De Guerra showed plenty of promise when third at Wetherby on his racecourse debut and is another to consider.

CABALLO DE GUERRA shaped with promise amidst greenness when third at Wetherby on debut recently and, with improvement on the cards, Lucinda Russell's 4-y-o may well take some stopping. Beyond The Verge already has a bumper win to his name, so he can give the selection most to think about under a penalty, with Irish point winner Soldier In Mayo a Rules debutant worth keeping a close eye on, too.

Lucinda Russell's CABALLO DE GUERRA travelled strongly for a long way when placed at Wetherby and might be the answer.
