Hara Kiri |
(1) (13/8 +7%)13/8(+7%) | (1) Hara Kiri 13/8, Stepped up on his promising return/yard debut when winning 10-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen (16.6f, good to soft) 23 days ago, running on. Looks capable of following up. Played late to edge out a previous winner with the pair clear at Market Rasen. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Night Jet |
(7) (7/2 +75%)7/2(+75%) | (7) Night Jet 7/2, Poor maiden who was again below form in a first-time visor when fifth of 11 at Ffos Las (15.8f, heavy) 28 days ago. Now 0-11 and has had a few chances in handicaps, failing to finish closer than 15l. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Churchman |
(5) (11/2 +8%)11/2(+8%) | (5) Churchman 11/2, Made a much better fist of it on his second handicap start back down markedly in trip when fourth over C&D in November, late headway under considerate handling. Must enter calculations from 1 lb lower. Outpaced over C&D here last time but ran well and soft ground could well benefit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Odin's Quest |
(4) (6/1 -100%)6/1(-100%) | (4) Odin's Quest 6/1, Bumper winner who built on earlier promise when landing a weak Wincanton maiden hurdle in April and belatedly backed that up when third of 15 at Taunton (16.5f) in November. Good third at Taunton last time and his yard is 2-4 here this season. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Duneomeno |
(8) (7/1 +72%)7/1(+72%) | (8) Duneomeno 7/1, Showed much improved form when off the mark on chase/handicap debut here (2m) in February 2022. Disappointing after, leaving Christian Williams after finishing a well-held fifth of 6 at Fontwell that September. Reverts to hurdles now setting out for a new yard after long absence. Could be on a good mark and he's with a new yard now returning from a long absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pollyonesock |
(6) (20/1 -208%)20/1(-208%) | (6) Pollyonesock 20/1, Modest in bumpers and hasn't shaped without promise in maiden/novice hurdles. First run for yard after leaving Alastair Ralph and remains capable of better now switched to a handicap. Poor so far but handicapped accordingly and market may well guide on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Lady Alex |
(3) (25/1 -213%)25/1(-213%) | (3) Lady Alex 25/1, Promising start over hurdles when third in 2m Uttoxeter maiden in October 2022 but offered little after 14 months off at Wetherby on Boxing Day and was on the retreat when departing at the last back there last time. Makes handicap debut. Modest so far but this is her handicap debut and the yard is going very well. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Wrong Way Harry |
(2) (40/1 -344%)40/1(-344%) | (2) Wrong Way Harry 40/1, Suited by a sound pace when off the mark in a Huntingdon handicap (20.7f) in December 2021. Not disgraced in the face of a stiff task on his stable debut at Clairefontaine 18 months later and would have run creditably had he completed there when last seen in July. Heavy-ground UK winner; beaten when falling in his latest French race last July. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Last-time-out winner HARA KIRI managed to get the better of what appeared a handicap blot at Market Rasen earlier this month. Olly Murphy's charge is effectively only 5lb higher in the ratings if taking Dylan Johnston's 3lb claim into account and the seven-year-old should take all the beating. Churchman caught the eye when a staying-on fourth over C&D in November and the Dunaden gelding may give the selection most to think about, shortly followed by Odin's Quest.
HARA KIRI did well to sustain his run from so far back to overhaul another thrown-in rival at Market Rasen 23 days ago and looks capable of defying an 8 lb rise on that evidence. Churchman caught the eye making late headway under considerate handling on just his second handicap start over C&D in November and must enter calculations, with handicap-debutante Pollyonesock another to consider.
Gary Moore's ODIN'S QUEST has to go right handed (blind in left eye) and he brings solid claims after a staying-on third at Taunton.

On The Platform |
(3) (11/5 +69%)11/5(+69%) | (3) On The Platform 11/5, Largely consistent in defeat for John Groucott last term and again for his current handler this season, third of 11 in handicap chase at Hereford (25.2f, good to soft) 45 days ago. Expected to be bang there off a 2 lb lower mark. 0-15 chasing but did at least run well on his last visit here when runner-up in November. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Supervisor |
(2) (10/3 -33%)10/3(-33%) | (2) Supervisor 10/3, Low-mileage 10-y-o who raced freely when second of 4 in handicap chase at Bangor (24f, good) when last seen out 9 months ago. Very much one to consider despite his absence. Had yet another absence since his encouraging second at Bangor; chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Barrakhov |
(6) (7/2 +61%)7/2(+61%) | (6) Barrakhov 7/2, Modest winner at 20f over hurdles who proved he retains some ability when in the frame in handicap chases at Hereford and Huntingdon last month. Possibilities with cheekpieces refitted after a wind op. Yet to win over fences and needs to show some benefit from the wind operation. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Come On Du Berlais |
(1) (5/1 +0%)5/1(+0%) | (1) Come On Du Berlais 5/1, It's now 11 runs since she won a bumper in 2022 for Gordon Elliott but in good form until only sixth in handicap hurdle at Hereford (19.7f, good to soft) 45 days ago. Not ruled out now making her chase debut. Bumper winner and 0-10 over hurdles; the fences are an unknown, as is this longer distance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fashion's Model |
(7) (11/1 +45%)11/1(+45%) | (7) Fashion's Model 11/1, Winning pointer but offered little over hurdles in 2021/22 and again on chasing bow after a long absence when pulled up at Ludlow 8 days ago. Hard to warm to. Back from a long absence for chase debut here last week and she didn't show a lot. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Well Paid Soldier |
(8) (18/1 -13%)18/1(-13%) | (8) Well Paid Soldier 18/1, Maiden hurdler who has been pulled up in handicaps at Leicester and Hereford this winter. Lots more required now going chasing. Pulled up the last twice and it's hard to be confident about her on chase debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Yes And Yes |
(4) (25/1 -25%)25/1(-25%) | (4) Yes And Yes 25/1, Placed in points but offered little over hurdles once sent handicapping. More is required now going over fences over a much longer distance. Modest hurdler but placed in points and he could raise his game now sent chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Jean De Monts |
(9) (28/1 -250%)28/1(-250%) | (9) Jean De Monts 28/1, Showed some ability when sixth in 2m minor event on his only outing on Flat in France but has been well held all three hurdling starts for his new yard. Needs this switch to fences to spark a big improvement. Poor hurdler but goes chasing for handicap debut and over a much longer distance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ON THE PLATFORM shaped better than the beaten distance suggests when third at Hereford last month. The eight-year-old races off the same mark as his C&D second in November and he could be ready to strike at this level. Market support for the returning Supervisor would be interesting, with Venetia Williams' veteran unexposed over this distance. Barrakhov also has the form to feature and he isn't easily dismissed having undergone a wind procedure since a third-placed finish at Huntingdon five weeks ago.
ON THE PLATFORM is proving a reliable sort and is weighted to gain his first success over fences. Supervisor could have a big say on his return, while Come On du Berlais is another to note now going chasing.
He's had some more time out but SUPERVISOR has races in him off his current mark if his jumping can stand the test.

Della Casa Lunga |
(1) (2/1 +11%)2/1(+11%) | (1) Della Casa Lunga 2/1, Better than ever when making it fifth time lucky for new yard in 21f course handicap 22 days ago. Proven over this far and her 6 lb rise is offset by her rider's 7lb claim. Lots to like. Recent 8l winner over 2m5f; raised 6lb and his new jockey claims 7lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fortuna Ligna |
(7) (4/1 +33%)4/1(+33%) | (7) Fortuna Ligna 4/1, Fair form in bumpers and similar form over hurdles, justifying cramped odds when landing a mares' maiden at Chepstow (19.5f) last spring. Creditable efforts in handicaps around 3m on 3 of her 4 starts this term but she'll need to find a bit more to win. Didn't jump well enough at Newbury last month and not for the first time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Pretending |
(8) (4/1 -14%)4/1(-14%) | (8) Pretending 4/1, Opened her account as a hurdler at Sandown (2½m) in December. Backed it up when third over 19.5f at Lingfield and shaped as if still in form when third over an inadequate 17f at Carlisle since. Player if stamina holds over this much longer trip. Consistent mare who found 2m1f too sharp last time; interesting over this far. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Time In The Sun |
(6) (7/1 -56%)7/1(-56%) | (6) Time In The Sun 7/1, Runner-up in a course bumper last spring. Improved effort over hurdles when 2 lengths second of 14 in 21f Wincanton novice 4 weeks ago. Unexposed now handicapping from an opening mark which looks workable. Came clear with a talented mare at Wincanton and interesting up in trip for handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Space Voyage |
(3) (11/1 -10%)11/1(-10%) | (3) Space Voyage 11/1, Took very well to hurdling last term, winning 3 small-field novice events, including here. Creditable third in 21f Wincanton handicap in November but needs to shrug off lesser efforts twice since. Has first-time cheekpieces added to her tongue tie. Disappointing last twice and now has a bit to prove with cheekpieces given a go. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Holly Hartingo |
(5) (11/1 +21%)11/1(+21%) | (5) Holly Hartingo 11/1, Dual hurdles scorer in 2021/22 but lightly raced since. Posted a solid fifth of 11 in handicap hurdle at Kempton (3m, heavy) over Christmas but pulled up at Newbury since. Needs first-time cheekpieces to help spark a revival. Yard won this race last year. Quiet season with the exception of her Kempton fifth and cheekpieces are now called on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Midnightreflection |
(2) (12/1 -33%)12/1(-33%) | (2) Midnightreflection 12/1, Registered a fifth career success with battling victory at Ascot (3m, good) in November. Shaped better than the result when sixth of 11 at Kempton (3m) over Christmas but her run of good form came to a halt at Lingfield last month. Running well until last time; ideally she probably prefers quicker ground than this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Phillapa Sue |
(4) (16/1 -60%)16/1(-60%) | (4) Phillapa Sue 16/1, Winner of a 3m Doncaster (good to soft) before Christmas but failed to reproduce that when only seventh of 16 at Newbury since. Never got into it from off the pace at Newbury but she's better than that. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
DELLA CASA LUNGA was an impressive winner over an extended 2m5f here earlier in the month and she is effectively 1lb better off today with Cameron Iles' claim taken into consideration. The only concern for the Champs Elysees mare is this longer trip, but a double could be on the horizon if her stamina doesn't ebb away. Recent Wincanton runner-up Time In The Sun is heading in the right direction and further improvement cannot be ruled out on her handicap debut, while Fortuna Ligna also holds claims.
7 lb-conditional Cameron Iles has a very healthy strike-rate in handicap hurdles this season and can boost that further on DELLA CASA LUNGA, who looks fairly treated up 6 lb for her course win 3 weeks ago even before her rider's allowance is taken into account. Handicap newcomer Time in The Sun is an interesting opponent, while Pretending should also have a say if her stamina holds now stepping up to 3m.
If she stays this longer trip, and Ludlow is a good place to try it, then the consistent PRETENDING (nap) can play a major role.

Arizona Cardinal |
(1) (11/4 -38%)11/4(-38%) | (1) Arizona Cardinal 11/4, Freshened up and bounced back to form to record a third win from 6 completed starts over fences at Leicester (22.7f, heavy) just over 5 weeks ago. Did that readily and while his overall profile hints at consistency issues, he looks to have major claims of going in again up 5 lb. Clearcut Leicester winner and his yard continues on the crest of a wave. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hardy Fella |
(2) (11/4 +31%)11/4(+31%) | (2) Hardy Fella 11/4, Progressive staying hurdler last season and surpassed that form on the second attempt over fences when scrambling home at Fontwell in November. Has failed to build on that on both subsequent starts however (well backed last time), so others make more appeal. Perhaps on a high mark but returning to further is well worth a shot. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
One True King |
(4) (3/1 +40%)3/1(+40%) | (4) One True King 3/1, Bounced back to form when runner-up over C&D (heavy) 8 days ago and remains well treated on his best form. Consistency not his forte, however. Inconsistent but he did run well over C&D last week when second to the favourite. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Midnight Mary |
(3) (4/1 +27%)4/1(+27%) | (3) Midnight Mary 4/1, Consistent type who seemed to excel herself when third in a 7-runner mares' listed contest at Huntingdon (2½m, soft) 5 weeks ago. Step back up in trip here no bad thing but the 4 lb rise she picked up for that effort could be a stumbling block. Possibly flattered by latest Listed form and her mark has suffered to the tune of 5lb. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Special Acceptance |
(6) (11/1 -10%)11/1(-10%) | (6) Special Acceptance 11/1, It's now 11 runs since his last win in 2020 but he recorded a creditable fourth of 11 in handicap chase at Plumpton (28.5f, good to soft) early last month. More needed with blinkers replacing cheekpieces for the first time. Veteran who has only won the once, when in first-time cheekpieces in 2020; new headgear. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
The Stuart Edmunds stable can do little wrong at present and ARIZONA CARDINAL looked back to his best when scoring comfortably at Leicester last month. A 5lb rise for that success could prove lenient, and stepping back up in trip should be of no issue as he looks to see off the likes of One True King, who was a solid runner-up over C&D recently. Midnight Mary is another to consider dropped in grade.
ARIZONA CARDINAL's overall profile hints at consistency issues but, given the manner of his victory at Leicester last month, Stuart Edmunds' 8-y-o is fancied to make light of a 5 lb rise and record a fourth success over the larger obstacles. Duke of Deception kept mistakes to a minimum back over fences when runner-up at Aintree on Boxing Day, so he heads up the opposition, with Midnight Mary and One True King taken to fight out minor honours.
The 8yo ARIZONA CARDINA readily accounted for an in-form horse at Leicester and his stable continues on the crest of a wave.

Jour D'evasion |
(5) (11/10 +33%)11/10(+33%) | (5) Jour D'evasion 11/10, Shaped quite well in a bumper on debut and has steadily improved with each start over hurdles, second of 14 in Huntingdon maiden (15.8f) 5 weeks ago. Entitled to be in the mix again on that evidence. Has bumped into some good opposition and this looks his best opportunity yet. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fourtowns |
(4) (7/4 -27%)7/4(-27%) | (4) Fourtowns 7/4, Steadily progressive in bumpers for Stuart Crawford and encouraging yard/hurdles debut display when fourth of 13 in novice at Newbury (16.3f) 3 weeks ago. Yard have been in great nick and respected with progress anticipated. Plenty to like about his fourth at Newbury, especially as he raced freely on heavy ground. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Schmilsson |
(1) (10/3 -48%)10/3(-48%) | (1) Schmilsson 10/3, Fairly useful on Flat for Andrew Balding and going the right way over hurdles, confirming abundant promise from Southwell with a smooth success in maiden company at Sedgefield (16.8f) 3 weeks ago. Penalised now but highly likely there's more to come. Looks to have more on his plate here with a penalty but unlikely to go down quietly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Karakoy |
(8) (50/1 -52%)50/1(-52%) | (8) Karakoy 50/1, Fair form on Flat, won minor event in 2023, but well held in handicaps last 2 starts. Sold from Harry & Roger Charlton 30,000 gns later in October and he offered little when tenth of 11 in a C&D juvenile 3 weeks ago. Hood reached for now. Raced freely and dropped right out when 20-1 for his hurdling debut on soft; hood goes on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Implied |
(7) (125/1 -150%)125/1(-150%) | (7) Implied 125/1, Oasis Dream gelding. Brother to a winner and half-brother to 3 winners on Flat, including smart 1m-9f winner Pocket Square. Modest form at best in handful of outings on the level and he's likely best watched now tackling hurdles for the first time. It was low-level stuff in his four runs on the Flat, all on the AW from 1m4f to 1m6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mambo Beat |
(6) (150/1 +0%)150/1(+0%) | (6) Mambo Beat 150/1, Fair on Flat (stays 1¼m) for Clive Cox but changed hands cheaply (2,000 gns) and he offered little starting out over hurdles at Hereford (16.2f) in November. Can only be watched back from 3 months off. Low-grade Flat winner who made a forgettable start over hurdles at Hereford. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Fixed Wing |
(3) (150/1 -127%)150/1(-127%) | (3) Fixed Wing 150/1, No better than mid-field in a pair of bumpers and ran only to a poor level on first of 2 starts over hurdles since the turn of the year. Rates a likely type for low-grade handicaps moving forward. 80-1 when tailed off behind Schmillson at Sedgefield and opposable on the back of that. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
An eye-catcher at Newbury on his hurdles debut, FOURTOWNS should have plenty more improvement to come on what is just his second start for the Ben Pauling yard. The five-year-old gets the vote ahead of Jour D'evasion, who was runner-up to a subsequent winner at Huntingdon while also finishing second over C&D on his penultimate start. A penalty for an easy success at Sedgefield will make life tougher for Schmilsson, but he is entitled to be thereabouts as well.
JOUR D'EVASION again ran well when finding only one too good in novice company at Huntingdon 5 weeks ago and a repeat should see him thereabouts again. Sedgefield scorer Schmilsson is improving nicely and he's feared under a penalty, with Fourtowns another expected to figure following an encouraging fourth at Newbury in a good contest.
There was a 50-1 winner last year but this looks good for one of the three form horses, of whom JOUR D'EVASION appeals most.

Lime Drop |
(2) (11/10 +27%)11/10(+27%) | (2) Lime Drop 11/10, Five-time hurdles winner during 2021/22 campaign and has matched that form so far over fences, rallying well when third at Huntingdon last time. Return to this distance should suit and she's worth chancing. Five-time hurdle winner who has yet to run a bad race over fences; solid claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Game On For Glory |
(1) (6/4 -50%)6/4(-50%) | (1) Game On For Glory 6/4, Bumper/hurdles winner who has been runner-up on two of her three outings over fences, throwing the race away with some sloppy jumping at Carlisle last time. Visor could straighten her out and she's a big player. Can jump left and not look straightforward but now visored and has strong form claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Moon Eagle |
(5) (17/2 +70%)17/2(+70%) | (5) Moon Eagle 17/2, Patchy form for Gavin Cromwell in Ireland and she hasn't pulled up any trees so far for this yard. Hard to fancy. 16-race maiden who is 0-10 over fences and faces a stiff task from 13lb out of the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Hamartia |
(3) (10/1 -43%)10/1(-43%) | (3) Hamartia 10/1, Placed twice in maiden company in Ireland for Colm Murphy but offered little in a couple of starts for current yard. Needs the switch to chasing to spark a revival. Quiet for this yard but was placed in Ireland and chasing could trigger a revival. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
GAME ON FOR GLORY has yet to strike over fences, but two runner-up efforts have been highly creditable and this looks like as good an opportunity as any to open her account. Lucy Wadham's charge is preferred to Lime Drop, who arrives with a similar profile and hails from the in-form Henry Daly outfit. Hamartia has yet to find her way for new connections but cannot be ruled out on some of her best Irish form.
This could develop into a match between in-form pair LIME DROP and Game On For Glory, with marginal preference for the former, who should be well suited by the step back up in trip.
This looks uncompetitive and much easier than the races GAME ON FOR GLORY has been contesting. Lime Drop is the danger.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
