Downpatrick bumper winner SANSRISK can register a first success over hurdles. The Philip Dempsey-trained mare ran well on two previous starts over flights, particularly in a stronger contest at Leopardstown over Christmas. This looks a nice opportunity for the daughter of No Risk At All to open her account in this discipline. Runner-up on her first three runs over hurdles, Born In Purple looked booked for a similar position when falling at Down Royal last month. The former French Flat winner needs to brush up her jumping but would be a serious threat if doing so. Mexican Moonshine, who finished second on her racecourse debut at Ballinrobe earlier this month, is entitled to be sharper for that initial outing.
MEXICAN MOONSHINE made a promising debut when runner-up at Ballinrobe a fortnight ago and with the prospect of more to come for her top yard, she can improve beyond the standard set by Born In Purple and Sansrisk.
This looks like a reasonable opportunity for SANSRISK, a bumper winner who obtained useful hurdling experience last season

Drops back in trip here and is entitled to build on that. Danny Mullins booked but drop in trip a worry; chance would be enhanced on soft ground. |

2nd (2) (5/1 -33%) De Temps En Temps |
5/1(-33%) | (2) De Temps En Temps 5/1, €22,000 3-y-o, Court Cave gelding. Closely related to useful hurdler Black Poppy. Dam bumper winner. 9/1(+10%) | (7) Gather Yourself 9/1, Showed ability in a trio of bumpers this year, latest when fourth of 11 at Killarney (17f, good) 70 days ago, and warrants respect on hurdles debut. Has a bit to find on hurdling debut but is the likely pace angle; each-way possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (5) (18/1 -13%) Mister Persistence |
18/1(-13%) | (5) Mister Persistence 18/1, €24,000 3-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Brother to dual bumper winner Royal Infantry, and half-brother to fair hurdler/chaser Sovereign Gold. Brother to point and Listed bumper winner Royal Infantry; market will guide. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Although he has a long absence to overcome, the Henry De Bromhead-trained DOWNMEXICOWAY might be worth chancing. A point-to-point winner at Belharbour in February 2023, the gelding shaped with promise on his racecourse debut at Punchestown two months later. While he is entitled to come on considerably from this race, De Bromhead is well capable of having one ready after a layoff. De Temps En Temps, runner-up on his only point-to-point start, is of obvious interest on his debut for Gavin Cromwell. With the stable firing on all cylinders at the moment, the son of Court Cave looks sure to be competitive. Locally trained Herbies Rover has shown enough on two starts to date to suggest he can also be involved.
There should be more to come from A TIPP FOR GOLD and he is taken to open his account. Downmexicoway and Half Montlioux may provide the chief threat.
Padraig Roche's SPREAD YOUR WINGS is from a smart family and the filly had a troubled passage when unseating her rider on debut

Switches from Flat to hurdles. Can make presence felt if back on his A-game. Runner-up in the Fred Winter and best form in the mud; chance.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (9/4 +59%) Pinot Gris |
9/4(+59%) | (7) Pinot Gris 9/4, Promising individual. Creditable sixth of 20 on Flat at Galway in July. Career best when winning on last hurdle outing so he's a player now handicapping. Couple of good efforts on the Flat lately and low mileage in this sphere still. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (12/1 +0%) Bright Legend |
12/1(+0%) | (8) Bright Legend 12/1, Lightly-raced maiden over hurdles. Fairly useful winner at 10f on flat. Blinkered for 1st time, tenth of 12 in minor event at Galway (8.4f, good, 33/1) 16 days ago. Switches from Flat to hurdles. No forlorn hope. Disappointed twice at Galway (hurdles and Flat) of late and looks up against it here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (22/1 -57%) Macinamillion |
22/1(-57%) | (5) Macinamillion 22/1, Winner in hurdle at Cork in April. Last of 12 in handicap (4/1) at Tramore (16.4f, good to soft) 40 days ago. Switches from Flat to hurdles. 5th (11) (11/2 +54%) Jeaniemacaroney |
11/2(+54%) | (11) Jeaniemacaroney 11/2, 1 win from 1 run this season. Respectable second of 10 in maiden at Laytown (7f, 10/11) 10 days ago. Switches from Flat to hurdles and not ruled out on her handicap hurdle debut. Beaten favourite five times in her career already so not one to place maximum faith in. |

10/1(+38%) | (14) Struck By Churchil 10/1, Thrice-raced winner over hurdles. Fair winner at 10f on flat. 11/2, won 17-runner handicap at Navan (10.2f, good) 19 days ago. Switches from Flat to hurdles and in the mix on her handicap hurdle debut. Powered home to win at Navan on the Flat; might be capable of better back over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (14/1 -17%) St Faz |
14/1(-17%) | (6) St Faz 14/1, Lightly-raced winner over hurdles. 1 win from 2 runs this season. Comes here fit from the Flat so not ruled out on his handicap hurdle debut. Plenty left in the tank when 6th at Tipperary on the Flat last month, hampered; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (20/1 -122%) Rauzan |
20/1(-122%) | (3) Rauzan 20/1, 4 wins from 4 runs this season. 10/1, career best when winning 9-runner handicap hurdle at Tramore (16f, good) 42 days ago. Not taken lightly in his current mood. Aga Khan-bred won with plenty to spare last time and he might overcome the 9lb hike. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (13) (33/1 -50%) Malbay Madness |
33/1(-50%) | (13) Malbay Madness 33/1, Fairly useful winner at 8f on flat. Good third of 6 in handicap (10/3) at Clonmel (9.6f, good) 21 days ago. Switches from Flat to hurdles. First run for yard after leaving Emmet Mullins. Third on the Flat at Clonmel latest; opposable on first run for Dermot McLoughlin. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (10) (12/1 +14%) Oh So Charming |
12/1(+14%) | (10) Oh So Charming 12/1, Lightly-raced maiden over hurdles. Excellent second of 20 in Galway maiden last time so one to consider now going into handicaps with more to come. Beaten half a length in a Galway maiden hurdle; market could provide clues. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (11/1 +0%) Kimy |
11/1(+0%) | (12) Kimy 11/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time, career best when winning 14-runner novice hurdle at Tramore (16.6f, good, 3/1) 8 days ago, kept up to work. Needs considering. Off the mark over hurdles at Tramore last week; the form is questionable though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (17/2 -31%) Pigeon House |
17/2(-31%) | (2) Pigeon House 17/2, 2 wins from 5 runs this season. 11/4, career best when winning 5-runner handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe (18.2f, soft) 31 days ago, kept up to work. Improving all the time recently. 5lb higher in a hotter race will make life tougher but respected with Jack Kennedy booked. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
If able to replicate his runner-up effort in the Boodles at Cheltenham, EAGLES REIGN will be hard to beat here. A moderate handicapper on the Flat, the Ross O'Sullivan-trained gelding improved markedly when switched to hurdles last winter. Although disappointing at Aintree on his final start of the campaign, he had been a consistent performer prior to that below par run. A recent return on the level at Navan should have left him spot on for this assignment. Bright Legend was behind the selection at the Cheltenham Festival but looks nicely treated off his hurdles mark. He, too, should be all the sharper following a recent outing at Galway. Pinot Gris is also of interest in first-time cheekpieces. The grey finished a close up second on the Flat here last year.
PINOT GRIS looks to have got in lightly for his handicap debut so is fancied to hit the right note back in this sphere. Oh So Charming could emerge as the main danger to Gavin Cromwell's progressive sort ahead of in-form pair Pigeon House and Rauzan.
RAUZAN still looks fairly treated off his new mark. Highly progressive, he can rattle off the five-timer in the hands of Hugh Morgan

Say It So |
(11) (16/5 -7%)16/5(-7%) | (11) Say It So 16/5, Gained a most unlikely first victory over hurdles at Cork (18.5f) in August prior to finishing second of 6 in handicap at Killarney (14.4f, good to soft, 9/2) 34 days ago. Wouldn't be sure to be in same form back in this sphere, however. Consistent lately, 6lb higher than for Cork win, has run well on the Flat since then. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Baltinglass Hill |
(8) (4/1 +11%)4/1(+11%) | (8) Baltinglass Hill 4/1, Latest win in hurdle at Roscommon (15.6f) in June. Creditable fourth of 11 in handicap hurdle (8/1) at Kilbeggan (16f, good to soft) 20 days ago. Expected to be bang there. Has been running consistently, bad mistake two out at Kilbeggan last time, each-way chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Benzine |
(10) (13/2 +59%)13/2(+59%) | (10) Benzine 13/2, Lightly-raced maiden. Creditable ninth of 20 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16.7f, good to soft, 33/1) 17 days ago, still in touch when mistake 2 out. Another who may yet have a bigger effort in his locker. Engagedv3.10 here Wednesday. Low-grade handicapper on the Flat, closely matched with Targa Flavio on Galway running. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Targa Flavio |
(12) (7/1 +30%)7/1(+30%) | (12) Targa Flavio 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 14/1, good tenth of 20 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16.7f, good to soft) 17 days ago, plugging on. Increase in trip may benefit him moving forward. Not beaten far in midfield on handicap debut at Galway, probably capable of improvement. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Poets Cottage |
(5) (7/1 +42%)7/1(+42%) | (5) Poets Cottage 7/1, 16/1, respectable fifth of 18 in handicap hurdle at Leopardstown (2m, soft) in March, unable to sustain effort. Has been absent again since so the betting is likely to prove a good guide. Lacks a recent run and has been inconsistent, form of Cork third gives him a chance. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Carlas Big Jim |
(6) (9/1 +10%)9/1(+10%) | (6) Carlas Big Jim 9/1, Landed back-to-back handicaps at up to 20f earlier this year but absent since finishing fifth of 8 in handicap hurdle at Limerick (2m, heavy) in April, ridden too aggressively. Revised mark demands that little bit more. Went up a total of 16lb for winning two handicaps in February/March, best over further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sayitfirst |
(14) (10/1 +38%)10/1(+38%) | (14) Sayitfirst 10/1, Creditable seventh of 14 in handicap hurdle (7/1) at Kilbeggan (16f, good to soft) 22 days ago. Others more persuasive. Each-way chance on her best form, needs to improve on most recent showing at Kilbeggan. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Ifitwasme |
(13) (10/1 -43%)10/1(-43%) | (13) Ifitwasme 10/1, Fair handicapper on Flat stays (12.5f) who offered some promise in trio of hurdle outings this time last year. Comes here fit and in form from the level and improvement likely now handicapping in this sphere. Flat winner, unexposed over hurdles, may improve, trainer's runners respected here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Mattie's Mountain |
(7) (20/1 -82%)20/1(-82%) | (7) Mattie's Mountain 20/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2020. Shaped as if needing the run after 13 months off when eleventh of 14 in handicap hurdle at Kilbeggan (2m) back in May. Needs to hit the ground running back from another break. Best form of his career was in 2020, ran well at this venue in 2022, struggling since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Big Debates |
(2) (25/1 +24%)25/1(+24%) | (2) Big Debates 25/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2022. 25/1, tenth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Bellewstown (24.5f, good to firm) 82 days ago, unable to recover from a bad mistake at the eighth. Significantly back down in trip now but he's not the easiest to assess. Five-time winner is much better known as a chaser, getting on in years, others preferred. |

Eddierocket |
(15) (50/1 +0%)50/1(+0%) | (15) Eddierocket 50/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 150/1, ninth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Sligo (17.4f, soft) 36 days ago, labouring after 3 out and merely passing beaten rivals. More needed. Beaten 22l in ninth at 150-1 on handicap debut at Sligo, hard to make a case for him. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Eric McNamara, who loves to line one up for this relatively local track, has two strong chances in the shape of Say It So and IFITWASME. The latter, who opened his account on the Flat at Tipperary in July, arguably has the more scope for improvement. Having had just the three starts over hurdles, the four-year-old could be nicely handicapped off a mark of 95. Say It So is bidding to follow up having registered a first success over flights at Cork last month. Although now 6lb higher, the Raven's Pass gelding looks one of the more likely winners. Ah Remy Martin has shaped well enough in his short career to date to suggest that he is another capable of getting involved at the business end of this race.
AH REMY MARTIN ran well and was arguably unlucky not to win having been badly hampered at the last when third at Down Royal 4 weeks ago. Lining up here easily one of the least exposed, he looks to hold sound claims of playing a lead role once more. Baltinglass Hill and the returning Poets Cottage head up the dangers along with Say It So. Market support behind both Isitwasme and Ganderstown would also look significant.
There could be better to come from SAY IT SO who won off 6lb lower at Cork and has since underlined his form with a solid Flat run

Makes handicap hurdle debut and he's a scopey individual. Appreciated the drop in trip when bolting up in a Downpatrick maiden in May; respected. |

Win Some Lose Some |
(10) (17/2 -89%)17/2(-89%) | (10) Win Some Lose Some 17/2, Promising type. 2 wins from 3 runs this season. 15/8, career best when winning 14-runner handicap hurdle at Wexford (20.4f, good to soft) 63 days ago, easily. Revised mark looks lenient. Won well at Wexford; up 10lb but a big player if his jumping holds up. |

Dutch Schultz |
(12) (10/1 -54%)10/1(-54%) | (12) Dutch Schultz 10/1, 2 wins from 3 runs this season. 4/1, career best when winning 9-runner handicap chase at Killarney (17f, soft) 35 days ago. Switches from chase to hurdles. Merits consideration from lower hurdles mark given he's clearly in excellent order. Won 2m1f Killarney handicap chase last month; returns to hurdling off a lower mark. |

GREAT UNIVERSE looks nicely treated off an initial mark of 114. The eight-year-old has some strong form to his name and was just three quarters of a length behind subsequent Supreme Novices' Hurdle winner Slade Steel in a bumper at the Punchestown Festival of last year. Third on his first two efforts over flights, the Martin Brassil-trained bay starts off in handicap company now, and it'll be interesting to see how he fares. Looking to exploit a lower mark over hurdles, Killarney victor Dutch Schultz is the pick of the three Gavin Cromwell-trained representatives, while fellow recent winners Big Stage, Pray Tell and Win Some Lose Some all look to have strong claims. After a controversial defeat last month, it'll come as no surprise if Ballywilliam Boy gains compensation, with C&D winner Millstream Lady another for the shortlist in this fiercely competitive affair.
A big field but the eye is drawn to WIN SOME LOSE SOME, who won a Wexford handicap with plenty in hand in July and is one to keep on the right side of. Dutch Schultz is also in good order and has a tempting hurdles mark to exploit so he's second choice, ahead of Pray Tell.
Eric McNamara's MILLSTREAM LADY (nap) was an impressive winner of a C&D handicap hurdle at this festival last year and gets the nod

(12) (6/5 +78%)6/5(+78%) | (12) Yeats Star 6/5, Useful hurdler. Had a productive 2023/24 campaign and shaped well after 6 months off when fourth of 15 in handicap hurdle (16/1) at Bellewstown (20.5f, good) just over 4 weeks ago. Makes chase debut and is one to bear in mind. 4th of 15 at Bellewstown last month; interesting recruit to chasing and Kennedy rides. |

Good Time Jonny |
(6) (9/2 +36%)9/2(+36%) | (6) Good Time Jonny 9/2, Took the Pertemps Hurdle at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival. Yet to score on Flat but showed a bit more than previously on first outing since leaving A. J. Martin after 5 months off when seventh of 13 in maiden at Roscommon (12.1f, soft, 66/1) 24 days ago. Each-way claims back chasing. Struggled over fences last season and was well beaten on the Flat at Roscommon this month. |

Sportinthepark |
(9) (6/1 +73%)6/1(+73%) | (9) Sportinthepark 6/1, Fairly useful winner at 20f over hurdles. 10/1, ran below that level when sixth of 12 in beginners chase at Down Royal (19.7f, good to soft) on debut over fences 5 months ago. Can be expected to improve on moderate sixth on chasing bow at Down Royal in May. |

Topgun Simmy |
(11) (7/1 +56%)7/1(+56%) | (11) Topgun Simmy 7/1, Fairly useful winner at 23f over hurdles. Poor effort on chasing debut at Killarney last month; minor role awaits. |

Henry de Bromhead fought off suitors from elsewhere when bringing MOSSY FEN PARK back to his Co Waterford base at Goffs in May. Offered for sale by his then owners Clipper Logistics, the Walk In The Park five-year-old fetched 235,000 pounds, with de Bromhead and Gerry Aherne the successful bidders. The winner of a point-to-point when in the care of Sean Doyle, the well-regarded bay was last seen finishing second in a Grade 2 over flights. Starting off over regulation fences now, he looks the one to beat. Disappointingly pulled up when sent off a 10/1 chance in the Irish National in April, Good Time Jonny is of definite interest with Derek O'Connor aboard, while smart hurdler Yeats Star and the Willie Mullins-trained Billericay Dickie are other leading contenders.
Plenty of interesting types in this beginners chase and DARTAN earns the vote to go one better than on chasing debut at the Galway Festival last month at the expense of Mossy Fen Park, who is a previous point winner and looks every inch a chaser for Henry de Bromhead. Yeats Star and Billericay Dickie are both chasing debutants representing powerful yards and that pair complete the shortlist.
Henry de Bromhead had to stretch to £235,000 to keep MOSSY FEN PARK in his yard and the wide-margin point winner can get the job done

A bit of a guessing game, with newcomers dominating. One such is GOLDINTHEVALLEYS, a 220,000-euro yearling purchase. Out of a half-sister to 2012 Breeders' Cup winner Flotilla, he represents top connections and will be ably assisted by the evergreen Derek O'Connor. Out of Grade 1 winner Augusta Kate, first reserve Amen Kate would be of definite interest if getting a run, while other debutants worthy of consideration are the Gordon Elliott-trained William Butler and Richard O'Brien's Spare Chips. Of the experienced runners in the line-up, Rural Link stands out with Patrick Mullins aboard. Live Aid will need to bounce back from a disappointing effort at Kilbeggan if he is to feature here, while South Of Killerig and Killarney fifth Friary Road are others of note.
This could go to a newcomer, with preference for WILLIAM BUTLER who is taken to make a winning start for his leading yard. Goldinthevalleys also makes appeal on paper and is interesting on his first outing, with Rural Link the pick of those with previous experience.
A hopeful vote goes to SOUTH OF KILLERIG who has contested two maiden hurdles and may have the speed for this test
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses.
