The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
TAG MAN appears to have been found an excellent opportunity to finally shed his maiden status over flights. A bumper winner at the Punchestown festival last year, the Henry De Bromhead-trained gelding has shaped well on six runs over hurdles. A handicap mark of 128 is a fair standard in a race of this nature, so it will certainly take a smart performance if one is to beat him here. Just Three belied odds of 66-1 when runner-up at this meeting on his racecourse debut earlier in the week. The Soldier Of Fortune gelding should be sharper for that experience if the race doesn't come too soon. River Tara was a beaten favourite on her hurdling debut at Wexford last month but the former bumper winner has to be respected given her connections.
This looks a good opportunity for TAG MAN, who's run to a fairly useful level on all but 1 of his 6 starts over hurdles. River Tara was let down by her jumping on her debut in this sphere at Wexford but should prove capable of better, while Just Three also enters calculations having shaped well at this venue last week.
Bumper winner TAG MAN may be 0-6 over hurdles but he brings by far and away the strongest form to this table.

2nd (8) (13/2 +35%) Horantzau D'airy |
13/2(+35%) | (8) Horantzau D'airy 13/2, 1 win from 2 runs this season. 4/1, below form fourth of 8 in novice hurdle at Galway (20.7f, good to soft) 50 days ago, not ideally placed. Back down in trip. Below par in a novice at Galway; no margin for error off this mark back in a handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (5/1 +0%) Shecouldbeanything |
5/1(+0%) | (5) Shecouldbeanything 5/1, 2 wins from 3 runs this season. Career best when winning 10-runner handicap hurdle (2/1) at Killarney (17f, soft) 28 days ago, comfortably. Much respected under Kennedy. Up 10lb for winning at Killarney but she's likeable and probably has more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (6/1 +45%) Thecompanysergeant |
6/1(+45%) | (9) Thecompanysergeant 6/1, Career best when winning 7-runner novice hurdle at Kilbeggan (19f, good to soft, 2/1) 28 days ago. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (7/1 -17%) Icare Allen |
7/1(-17%) | (3) Icare Allen 7/1, Creditable third of 16 in handicap hurdle at Galway (22.6f, soft, 4/1) 48 days ago, faring best of those ridden prominently. Back down in trip. Can make presence felt. Unlucky 4th in the Galway Hurdle before 2m6f stretched him two days later; back in form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (13) (6/1 +25%) Volantis |
6/1(+25%) | (13) Volantis 6/1, Winner in hurdle at Fairyhouse in February. Good ½-length second of 20 to Ifiwerearichman in handicap hurdle (28/1) at Galway (16f, good) 49 days ago. Likely capable of even better and high on the shortlist. Came from well off the pace to push Ifiwerearichman to within a length at Galway. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (25/1 -39%) Cash Back |
25/1(-39%) | (6) Cash Back 25/1, Bit below form second of 6 in minor event hurdle (10/11) at Cork (18.7f, good to soft) 46 days ago. Only a return to his very best will suffice. Reliable front-runner but at his best in dominating smaller fields and can be taken on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (28/1 -133%) Magic Tricks |
28/1(-133%) | (4) Magic Tricks 28/1, 66/1, 15 lengths ninth of 13 to Fils D'oudairies in Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary (16f, good) 78 days ago. Peak form brings him into it and was entitled to need his run in a Grade 3 last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (18) (16/1 +27%) My Gaffer |
16/1(+27%) | (18) My Gaffer 16/1, 8/11, didn't need to be at best when winning 18-runner novice hurdle at Limerick (16.4f, good to soft) 119 days ago, pushed out. Unexposed but this a tough ask on handicap debut. Lacks a recent run and thrown into the deep end here for handicap debut; 5lb wrong. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (14/1 -211%) Filey Bay |
14/1(-211%) | (2) Filey Bay 14/1, Another very good advert for his shrewd yard, placing in Betfair and County hurdles in the spring and shaping well from too far back when fifth in a big field at Galway in August. Also won over 2m on the Flat later in August and latest effort over 7.5f can be ignored. Big player back hurdling. Knows what these big field handicaps are all about and should be involved. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (1) (16/1 -60%) Fils D'oudairies |
16/1(-60%) | (1) Fils D'oudairies 16/1, 2 wins from 3 runs this season. 18/1, career best when winning 13-runner Grimes Hurdle at Tipperary (16f, good) 78 days ago by 2¾ lengths from Sharjah, kept up to work. A very smart effort will be needed under clear top weight. Last year's runner-up and returns in better form after winning a Grade 3 at Tipperary. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (17) (25/1 +24%) Captains Nephew |
25/1(+24%) | (17) Captains Nephew 25/1, Winner in hurdle at Clonmel in February. Creditable sixth of 18 in handicap hurdle at Punchestown (16.4f, good to soft, 16/1) 150 days ago. Something to find on form. Has only won a maiden and has managed no better than sixth in his three handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
13th (7) (25/1 -150%) Glan |
25/1(-150%) | (7) Glan 25/1, C&D winner. 1 win from 3 runs this season. Pulled up in handicap hurdle at Galway (16f, good to soft, 4/1) 50 days ago, behind when pulled up before 2 out. Backed into favouritism for the Galway Hurdle and there were physical excuses. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (10) (14/1 +44%) Aime Desjy |
14/1(+44%) | (10) Aime Desjy 14/1, 2/9, didn't need to be at best when winning 14-runner novice hurdle at Kilbeggan (16f, good to soft) 41 days ago, going clear. Makes handicap hurdle debut. Long odds-on win in a Kilbeggan maiden told us nothing new but he's a very lightly raced. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
15th (16) (80/1 +0%) Wouldn't You Agree |
80/1(+0%) | (16) Wouldn't You Agree 80/1, C&D winner. Latest win in hurdle at Bellewstown in July. 20/1, 37¾ lengths last of 10 to Shecouldbeanything in handicap hurdle at Killarney (17f, soft) 28 days ago. Needs the ground to dry out and yet even then he looks vulnerable in this company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
16th (15) (20/1 -67%) The Big Chap |
20/1(-67%) | (15) The Big Chap 20/1, 9/2, career best when winning 10-runner handicap hurdle at Sligo (16.9f, good) 75 days ago, kept up to work. Reportedly better for patient tactics when winning with something in hand at Sligo. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (11) (16/1 +52%) Ifiwerearichman |
16/1(+52%) | (11) Ifiwerearichman 16/1, 1 win from 3 runs this season. Career best when winning 20-runner handicap hurdle (28/1) at Galway (16f, good) 49 days ago by ½ length from Volantis, always holding on. More on his plate off 7 lb higher now. Had the run of things up front when winning a big-field 2m handicap at Galway; up 7lb. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
The lightly-raced VOLANTIS should be capable of making his presence felt from the foot of the handicap. An impressive maiden winner at Fairyhouse back in February, the Ross O'Sullivan-trained five-year-old travelled well throughout when runner-up on just his second start in handicap company at Galway last month. Indeed, if the gaps had appeared at the right time, he may well have got out in time to land the main prize. Filey Bay disappointed on the flat at Tipperary last time but can readily be forgiven that run over a totally inadequate trip. The Galway Hurdle fifth should be a serious contender now that he has his optimum conditions. Icare Allen was a place in front of the latter at Ballybrit but is worse off at the revised weights as he was claimer ridden at the festival.
It's surely only a matter of time before FILEY BAY lands a valuable handicap hurdle and perhaps this will be the day. Ross O'Sullivan's Volantis is another who likely has his name on a nice prize before long after shaping well in a couple of handicaps this summer and he's second choice ahead of Icare Allen, who looks the pick of the Willie Mullins quartet, and Shecouldbeanything.
As competitive as ever. ICARE ALLEN knows what these big-field handicaps are all about and he looks back in top order.

2nd (17) (28/1 +44%) Oh'herewego |
28/1(+44%) | (17) Oh'herewego 28/1, C&D winner. 66/1, tenth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Killarney (20.2f, good to soft) 27 days ago. Twenty runs since last win in 2019. Won this five years ago but no further success since the following month, hard to fancy. |

17/2(-70%) | (4) Meehall 17/2, 11/2, respectable fifth of 12 in handicap chase at Killarney (23f, soft) 28 days ago. Switches from chase to hurdles. Tongue strap back on. Looks competitive on form. Won over this trip at Galway last October, mostly running over fences this year, respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (9) (9/1 +78%) Glorious Singer |
9/1(+78%) | (9) Glorious Singer 9/1, Remains a maiden after 17 NH runs. 50/1, respectable sixth of 12 in novice hurdle at Tramore (21.4f, good to soft) 33 days ago. Not taken lightly. Has shown some ability over a range of distances but her 0-16 hurdles record is a negative. |

40/1(-82%) | (8) Keeffelee 40/1, Twelfth of 15 in handicap hurdle (28/1) at Ballinrobe (22.1f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Remote second to a decent horse in a 2m4f maiden in July, overall credentials are weak. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (18) (17/2 -89%) Punk Rock Girl |
17/2(-89%) | (18) Punk Rock Girl 17/2, 20/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, excellent third of 11 in handicap hurdle at Bangor (19.6f, good) 17 days ago. Back up in trip. Has good chance on form. Drop in trip seemed to suit her last time so this distance may not be ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (25/1 +62%) Inchidaly Robin |
25/1(+62%) | (2) Inchidaly Robin 25/1, Below form seventh of 14 in novice hurdle at Killarney (16.4f, good to soft, 80/1) 27 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Tongue strap on 1st time. 25/1(-14%) | (16) Flemenora 25/1, 10/1, ran out in handicap hurdle at Galway (22.2f, soft) 11 days ago, slowly away. Others appeal more. Gave her rider a hard time at Galway, not a big price then could go well if cooperating. |

Booking of O'Keeffe a plus so she's no forlorn hope. Modest form in maidens, no impression when 50-1 at Tramore in her first handicap. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
PUNK ROCK GIRL who ran her best race to date when third at Bangor earlier this month is sure to have been laid out for this meeting. Given her local connections, which include Kerry senior footballer Paudie Clifford, the five-year-old mare will almost certainly be peaking at this time of year. A first-time tongue tie may have contributed to the improvement last time, so it's encouraging that that aid is retained now. Heart of Rome is a lightly raced gelding who should be capable of playing a leading role in a moderate affair such as this. The Paul Nolan-trained representative was third at Down Royal on his latest start. Dunleer Phoenix, another to reach the frame on his most recent outing, is one who should also be involved.
HEART OF ROME posted an improved effort when third at Down Royal and remains with few miles on the clock so gets the nod in an open-looking handicap. Punk Rock Girl rates the chief threat on the back of her excellent Bangor third, although both Meehall and Glorious Singer need factoring in too.
A switch to Terence O'Brien's yard seems to have done the trick for STELLAR SYMPHONY who gets the vote to follow up her Kilbeggan win

SPRING STREET can make it back-to-back wins having registered a first career success at Down Royal earlier this month. The five-year-old was subsequently raised 6lbs for that victory but the hike is largely offset by the excellent Danny Gilligan taking 5lb off now. In a race where very few come into it in any sort of meaningful recent form, the Champs Elysses gelding holds strong claims. Local trainer Eoin McCarthy always targets this particular meeting so his Jesina is an obvious contender. A winner at Ballinrobe in July, the former Jessica Harrington-trained mare was brought down on her next start, before running creditably at Sligo last time. Mr Social has been running consistently of late but needs to prove his stamina for this distance.
This looks wide open but the improving BALLAGH STAR looks the way to go on the back of his excellent Galway second last time out. Roman Parish is weighted to have a big say and next on the list ahead of in-form pair Miss Laura and Mr Social.
This looks like a good opportunity for BALLAGH STAR (nap) who made most of the running when losing out narrowly over 2m6f at Galway

28/1(+44%) | (10) I Am Rocco 28/1, Seventh of 9 in novice chase (40/1) at Ballinrobe (23f, good to soft) 25 days ago. Makes handicap chase debut. Tailed off in two beginners' chases for this yard and goes handicapping with much to prove. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
CAVE COURT catches the eye reverting to fences off a mark which is 14lb lower than his hurdling rating. The Noel Kelly-trained six-year-old has won his last two starts in the latter discipline but remains totally unexposed as a chaser after just the sole run. Stepping up in distance could well bring about further improvement as he bids for a quick hat-trick. Dancing Jeremy also has the potential to progress over fences, given that he has only had the three starts. A winner at Cork last year for Tom Cooper, the grey has raced mainly over hurdles of late. Cahirdown Boy ran very well at Killarney last time given that the late change to soft ground was against him. The more it dries out the better the chance of the locally owned eight-year-old.
MIDNIGHT IT IS has a chase in him off this sort of mark judged on his latest Wexford third and is perhaps a more solid option than Cave Court, who is well treated judged on his recent hurdle exploits but does need to prove he's as good over fences. Pepperocco, who was a place in front of the selection at Wexford, and last week's Ballinrobe second Kilashee are others to consider.
Gavin Cromwell's LEISH OSCARS SON contests his first handicap over fences after a pleasing run at Sligo and he retains potential.

8th (9) (16/1 -33%) The Dara Man |
16/1(-33%) | (9) The Dara Man 16/1, Unreliable type. Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. Creditable fourth of 8 in handicap chase at Kilbeggan (19f, good, 11/1) 14 days ago. Others more persuasive. Two seconds to his credit in June, more recent form leaves him with questions to answer. |

BARNACULLIA can turn the tables on his Galway conqueror Fighting Fit at these revised weights. The Michael Mulvaney-trained gelding has been busy on the flat subsequently, finishing second at Bellewstown before running fifth in the Ulster Cesarewitch. While he has had a long season, if on song, the six-year-old looks the most likely winner. Fighting Fit had been out of form prior to his festival success last month but will be a serious threat if repeating that Galway effort. Punters are sure to pile in on the gelding ridden by local jockey Gavin Brouder. Roseys Hollow is well handicapped over fences relative to her hurdles form but has yet to exploit what is almost certainly a lenient mark.
The vote goes to BARNACULLIA, who pulled well clear of the rest when beaten ½-length by the re-opposing Fighting Fit on his latest start in this sphere at Galway last month. He meets that rival on better terms here and has been in good heart on the Flat in recent weeks. Fighting Fit should again take a hand in the finish if able to back up his Galway effort, while Irish Blaze is also shortlisted.
Kept busy with three runs on the Flat since finishing second to Fighting Fit at Galway, BARNACULLIA is tipped to reverse that form.

Not in anything like the same form at Killarney since, so bounced back called for. Dual 1m2f handicap winner; 1m6f stretches him but still looks a key player. |

9th (9) (50/1 +24%) Zebos Beanos |
50/1(+24%) | (9) Zebos Beanos 50/1, Well held in a trio of maiden hurdles. Off 155 days. Modest maiden on the Flat, bit below form on last Flat outing. Low-grade Flat maiden and has been doing nothing over hurdles this year. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Killarney runner-up MINELLA MATE can register his second success on the flat. The former bumper winner won a decent renewal of the Q.R. Maiden at the Galway festival last month, before just failing to follow up at the County Kerry venue last time. Having travelled like the best horse in the race, the John Nallen-trained gelding was just out-battled inside the last half a furlong. Dropping back in trip should be very much in his favour now and it would be something of a surprise if he were beaten. Mr Rango has the next best official rating of those to attain a mark, although it is 10lb below the Nallen representative. With a slight doubt about his stamina over this distance, the five-year-old could be vulnerable. Coeur Sublime hasn't run on the flat since making a winning racecourse debut in 2018 but has progressed into a high-class National Hunt horse in the interim.
MINELLA MATE has made a promising start to his Flat career and is preferred to Coeur Sublime, who has a bit to prove having underperformed on his final 2 outings over jumps. Useful handicap chaser Mister Fogpatches is worthy of consideration, also.
Bumper winner MINELLA MATE has done surprisingly well since his attention was turned to the Flat and this looks very winnable.

66/1(+34%) | (9) Baunmore Lady 66/1, Red Jazz filly. Half-sister to 3 winners on Flat, including 7f winner Glanely. Dam maiden on Flat (stayed easy 1¼m). Not an obvious sort on paper. Half-sister to three Flat winners, more speed than stamina in the pedigree, up against it. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
It may be worth taking a chance on racecourse debutant SPRINGS A GIRL in this finale. Trainer Richard O'Brien, who does exceptionally well with the few horses he runs in this sphere, is almost certain to have one lined up for a track that is relatively local to him. A half-sister to a dual winner for Gordon Elliott, the four-year-old will be worth monitoring in the market. Mount Sinai will have plenty of supporters too hailing from the Willie Mullins yard. A beaten favourite on her debut at Sligo, the daughter of Mount Nelson is surely capable of better. Point-to-point winner Miss Oreo has arguably the best form of those to have run under rules to date and Shark Hanlon is another trainer that loves to target this festival meeting.
MOUNT SINAI couldn't justify prohibitive odds on debut but she still showed a fair level of ability and, with improvement likely, she should take all the beating. Dual-point winner Imperial Fox looks the danger and Baiser Inedit is another interesting recruit having finished third between the flags.
The Mullins-trained Mount Sinai is likely to do better than at Sligo but may not cope with Westerhope who showed promise at Galway
Ths is the racecard key.
