1st (8) (10/1 -25%) Mr Inspiration |
10/1(-25%) | (8) Mr Inspiration 10/1, Lightly-raced winner. Winner at Kempton in February. Very good fourth of 11 in handicap back at that venue (12f, 11/2) 28 days ago, outpaced home turn and keeping on. This sort of test may be on the sharp side on that evidence.
2nd (16) (14/1 -27%) Sausalito |
14/1(-27%) | (16) Sausalito 14/1, Comes here on a roll, landing quick-fire 5-timer in a C&D handicap last month. Not disgraced despite having winning run ended from career-high mark when third back here 7 days ago and this demands even more.
3rd (5) (14/1 +0%) Dream Harder |
14/1(+0%) | (5) Dream Harder 14/1, Improved model for Ian Williams, adding to his tally at Wolverhampton (9.5f) in February. Probably best not judged too harshly on either of his starts since and worth noting he remains unexposed at this sort of trip.
4th (1) (9/1 +10%) Buxted Too |
9/1(+10%) | (1) Buxted Too 9/1, Enjoyed a highly-productive winter, gaining sixth success since October over C&D in March. Not in same form when fifth at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 3 weeks ago but bounce back certainly not ruled out.
5th (6) (5/1 +0%) Satono Chevalier |
5/1(+0%) | (6) Satono Chevalier 5/1, Irish raider who comes here on a roll, readily landing back-to-back Dundalk handicaps at around this trip in February. Mark has understandably risen considerably but feasible to think he's not yet reached his limit.
6th (9) (6/1 +50%) Idee Fixee |
6/1(+50%) | (9) Idee Fixee 6/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 4/5, creditable second of 7 in minor event at this course (10f, AW) 30 days ago, no match for winner. Present mark looks a workable one and he's totally unexposed at this sort of trip so possibilities with cheekpieces enlisted.
7th (4) (20/1 -135%) Legendary Day |
20/1(-135%) | (4) Legendary Day 20/1, Made a fine start for this yard, tasting success over hurdles at Sedgefield (16.8f) in November and landed each of his last 2 starts on the Flat, latterly at Newcastle (12.5f) 24 days ago. Should remain competitive operating from 3 lb higher mark.
8th (13) (11/1 -10%) Dinoo |
11/1(-10%) | (13) Dinoo 11/1, 5/2, career best when winning 5-runner handicap at Newcastle (10.2f) 43 days ago, decisively on top at the line. Longer trip within range and rider's claim off sets subsequent rise in weights so he's worth a second look.
9th (7) (3/1 +33%) Vega Sicilia |
3/1(+33%) | (7) Vega Sicilia 3/1, Winner at Wolverhampton in December. Evens, good second of 6 in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f) 36 days ago, clear of rest. Cheekpieces on 1st time. Expected to be bang there.
10th (14) (9/1 +18%) Muzaffar |
9/1(+18%) | (14) Muzaffar 9/1, Creditable 1¼ lengths third of 7 to Legendary Day in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f, 10/11) 24 days ago, having plenty go wrong in the race. Remains unexposed on back of just 6 career starts and strong chance he can rate higher still.
11th (15) (50/1 -79%) Thefastnthecurious |
50/1(-79%) | (15) Thefastnthecurious 50/1, Winner at Southwell in January. 9/1, creditable third of 8 in handicap at Southwell (14.1f) 45 days ago, nearest finish. Clearly in good form but this rates tougher.
12th (3) (18/1 -13%) Pirate King |
18/1(-13%) | (3) Pirate King 18/1, 4-time C&D winner. Fifteen runs since last win in 2021. Fourth of 6 in handicap (18/1) at Newcastle (12.4f) 36 days ago, not well served by a modestly-run affair. Stronger gallop will help returned to a venue he's often saved his best for.
13th (11) (20/1 +9%) Fairmac |
20/1(+9%) | (11) Fairmac 20/1, Back on last winning mark, returned to form following 4 months off when 1¾ lengths fourth of 7 to Legendary Day in handicap at Newcastle (12.4f, 11/2) 24 days ago, rallying last ½f. However, suspicion is he will find a few too good here.
14th (12) (28/1 -12%) Pistoletto |
28/1(-12%) | (12) Pistoletto 28/1, C&D winner. Sixteen runs since last win in 2022. Never figured in face of stiff task when 18½ lengths last of 8 to Lord North in Winter Derby at this course (10f, AW) 41 days ago. This more suitable bothers make greater appeal on balance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Satono Chevalier has really found his stride since being campaigned over 1m4f, with two comfortable victories recorded in the space of five days at Dundalk in February. The Irish challenger, however, does race off a 12lb higher mark on these shores and he may prove vulnerable to the progressive VEGA SICILIA. The four-year-old lost little in defeat when runner-up to the improving Barenboim at Newcastle last month and the application of first-time cheekpieces might aid his cause further. The lightly-raced Mr Inspiration should have more to offer and is another to note.
Plenty hold claims in a competitive opener and it may pay to side with VEGA SICILIA. Runner-up on each of his last 3 starts in handicaps, he pulled a long way clear with a thriving sort on the latest occasion at Newcastle 5 weeks ago and the application of first-time cheekpieces may just put an extra edge on him here. Irish-raider Satono Chevalier, low-mileage 4-y-o Muzaffar and Idee Fixee head up the dangers, whilst Dream Harder isn't underestimated either.
This can go to SATONO CHEVALIER who, despite a big hike in the weights, can complete the hat-trick after two emphatic wins at Dundalk.

1st (12) (9/1 -13%) Carzola |
9/1(-13%) | (12) Carzola 9/1, Lightly-raced winner. 5/1, career best when winning 4-runner handicap at this C&D (AW) 35 days ago, drawing clear final 1f and well on top finish. That shouldn't prove her limit and she's in excellent hands. Well worth a second look.
2nd (2) (4.5/1 +78%) Halic |
4.5/1(+78%) | (2) Halic 4.5/1, Low-mileage sort who is beginning to make up for lost time, off the mark over 12f here in January and career-best display when following up on yard debut at Chelmsford (13.3f) by 2½ lengths from Protected Guest 6 weeks ago. Can give another good account now tackling this even longer trip.
3rd (8) (28/1 -211%) First Emperor |
28/1(-211%) | (8) First Emperor 28/1, C&D winner. Latest win at Kempton in January. 4/1, good second of 7 in handicap back at that venue (2m) 9 days ago, no extra only late on. Ought to give another good account.
4th (14) (10/1 +60%) Blow Your Horn |
10/1(+60%) | (14) Blow Your Horn 10/1, Seventeen runs since last win in 2021. Last of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford (10f, 11/1) 22 days ago, needing stiffer test. This rates more suitable from his much-reduced mark but he may just be vulnerable to less exposed sorts.
5th (13) (20/1 -43%) Khadaash |
20/1(-43%) | (13) Khadaash 20/1, Didn't kick on in bumpers but more like it switched to this code, building on his maiden exploits to land 2m Dundalk handicap (2m) 5 weeks ago, staying on to lead final 1f. Remains very low-mileage for a 6-y-o and shrewd stable no stranger to success on these shores.
6th (5) (33/1 -83%) Danni California |
33/1(-83%) | (5) Danni California 33/1, 4/1 and blinkered for 1st time, career best when winning 6-runner handicap at Southwell (14.1f) 74 days ago, doing it readily having been produced to lead over 1f out. Blinkers again the headgear of choice having been given a short break ahead of this.
7th (4) (14/1 -17%) Diamond Bay |
14/1(-17%) | (4) Diamond Bay 14/1, C&D winner. 11/4, creditable third of 7 in handicap at Kempton (16f) 23 days ago. Not taken lightly.
8th (7) (20/1 -25%) Pons Aelius |
20/1(-25%) | (7) Pons Aelius 20/1, Four wins from 16 runs last year, including London Stayers' Final at Kempton (2m) in December. Not seen to best effect in a muddling contest back at that venue last month and he's an each-way player on balance.
9th (9) (1.75/1 +13%) Mr Escobar |
1.75/1(+13%) | (9) Mr Escobar 1.75/1, Thrice-raced winner. Won 13-runner maiden (5/6) at Dundalk (12f) 79 days ago, headed briefly 1f out and finding extra. Shapes as if he'll stay further and he's a most intriguing handicap debutant having joined top Irish NH yard.
10th (11) (28/1 +15%) Forge Valley Lad |
28/1(+15%) | (11) Forge Valley Lad 28/1, Course winner. Latest win here in February. 15/2, creditable third of 10 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f) 7 days ago, needing stronger gallop. Significantly up in trip.
11th (6) (14/1 +13%) Haku |
14/1(+13%) | (6) Haku 14/1, Three wins from 9 runs last year. Latest win at Wolverhampton in December. Creditable second of 11 in handicap at Kempton (12f, 8/1) 28 days ago, no match for winner. Significantly up in trip.
12th (1) (50/1 -25%) Protected Guest |
50/1(-25%) | (1) Protected Guest 50/1, Unreliable type. Course winner. 7/1, creditable third of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f) 20 days ago, carrying head awkwardly but keeping on. Finished runner-up in this race from 2 lb higher mark 12 months ago but likely he'll find a few too good here.
13th (3) (6.5/1 -117%) Ehteyat |
6.5/1(-117%) | (3) Ehteyat 6.5/1, Latest win at Southwell in January. 11/8, very good neck second of 10 to First Emperor in handicap at this C&D (AW) 76 days ago, clear of rest. Expected to be bang there.
14th (10) (28/1 -12%) Silverscape |
28/1(-12%) | (10) Silverscape 28/1, Course winner. Creditable 2¼ lengths second of 6 to First Emperor in handicap (5/2) at Kempton (16f) 72 days ago, running on. Stronger gallop to aim at will aid his cause here and he remains low-mileage at around 2m. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
MR ESCOBAR may well need to improve to win off his opening mark, but that looks a distinct possibility having joined Willie Mullins since his maiden triumph at Dundalk in January. Ehteyat was headed near the finish by reopposing rival First Emperor over C&D in January, but may gain his revenge now 8lb better off in the weights and is feared most. Halic arrives in fine form and is another who can't be discounted as he bids in his quest to land a hat-trick.
MR ESCOBAR has improved with each outing in maidens in Ireland, getting off the mark at the third attempt at Dundalk in January. Stepping up in trip on handicap debut, he's joined a leading NH outfit and it would be no surprise to see him make a bold bid with Ryan Moore in the plate. Carzola is going the right way and she's feared along with Ehteyat. Halic may also have more to offer now his stamina is drawn out further.
John McConnell's KHADAASH is preferred to Halic, Ehteyat and Mr Escobar. Stacks have each-way claims.

4.5/1(+18%) | (7) Aussie Banker 4.5/1, Three wins from 6 runs last year, with his latest success at Wolverhampton in December. Lost little in defeat when second of 13 in handicap (3/1) at Kempton (1m) 90 days ago, just failing. Respected.

2.75/1(+50%) | (12) Dingle 2.75/1, Course winner. Following a wind op, gained first success for current yard when winning 10-runner handicap (7/2) at Newcastle (1m) 29 days ago. Remains on a workable mark.

3.33/1(-33%) | (1) Brewing 3.33/1, Maintained unbeaten record when winning 4-runner event on handicap debut at Newcastle (7.1f, 11/10) in December, despite still showing signs of greenness. From a smart family and could have even more to offer.
5th (5) (12/1 -33%) Mulgrave |
12/1(-33%) | (5) Mulgrave 12/1, Overcame unfavourable circumstances when completing hat-trick in 8-runner handicap at Dundalk (1m, 9/2) 42 days ago, pulling hard in a slowly-run race. Not dismissed lightly in his current form.
6th (3) (11/1 +8%) Hafeet Alain |
11/1(+8%) | (3) Hafeet Alain 11/1, C&D winner. Again below form when eleventh of 13 in handicap (18/1) at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 27 days ago. Others make more appeal.
7th (9) (28/1 -100%) Power Of Darkness |
28/1(-100%) | (9) Power Of Darkness 28/1, Ran better than for a while when third of 11 in handicap at Newcastle (1m, 14/1) 21 days ago. Task is now to build on that effort.

25/1(+0%) | (6) Keyser Soze 25/1, Course winner. Scored at Kempton in January, before left poorly placed when eighth of 11 in handicap (9/1) at Wolverhampton (7.2f) 59 days ago. Blinkers applied at Kempton are quickly back on again. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
BREWING kept his unbeaten record intact when winning with a gutsy display at Newcastle in December and William Haggas' charge is fancied to continue his upwards trajectory now tackling a mile for the first time. Final Voyage has been given a short break since his creditable runner-up efforts at Dundalk and he warrants consideration with top apprentice Billy Loughnane now in the saddle. Aussie Banker and Mulgrave both arrive at the top of their game and add further spice to the mix.
BREWING won all 3 of his starts last year, still showing signs of greenness when making a successful handicap debut at Newcastle on his final outing, and he can extend his winning sequence with further progress to come. The main danger could be Aussie Banker who has been progressing nicely this winter, with Irish-raider Final Voyage another to consider.
A chance is taken with HAFEET ALAIN who has winning form over C&D and is on a favourable mark if rediscovering anything like his best.

22/1(-10%) | (12) Rattling 22/1, C&D winner in January but left poorly placed when sixth of 7 in handicap here (7f) following month. Worth another chance reverted in trip.

14/1(-17%) | (8) Aberama Gold 14/1, C&D winner. 13/2, only eleventh of 13 in handicap at Wolverhampton (6.1f) 13 days ago. Can give a good account if shrugging off latest effort.

8.5/1(+29%) | (9) The Green Man 8.5/1, Latest win at Kempton in March. Respectable sixth of 14 in handicap at Newcastle (6f, 9/4) 24 days ago. One for the shortlist.

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Epsom Faithfull has struggled in much deeper waters recently, including when finishing last here in Listed company over 5f in February. She can improve at this level, but the vote goes to the Chris Dwyer-trained SIR OLIVER. The gelded son of Dark Angel runs off the same mark following a decent third at Chelmsford last month and could be worth siding with down in class. Shalaa Asker has to shoulder a 5lb penalty following a game win over this trip, also at Chelmsford, last Saturday and has to enter the reckoning with Ryan Moore in the saddle.
Lots with chances. WALKING ON CLOUDS is enjoying an excellent 2023 and can garner a fourth success on the back of his very good second here last time out. Epsom Faithfull will benefit from stepping back up in trip and is next on the list, although recent Chelmsford City scorer Shalaa Asker and in-form pair Laheg and Adeb need factoring in too.
A hot race in which EPSOM FAITHFULL is given another chance to confirm the promise of her Listed fifth over C&D in February.

10/1(+50%) | (9) Storm Catcher 10/1, Completed a 1¼m Chelmsford hat-trick when edging ahead late on in February. Possibly saved for this since but the outside stall has the potential to make life awkward as he goes for 4 in a row.

Although WAR IN HEAVEN failed to secure a fifth consecutive win when stepping up in class for his latest outing at Wolverhampton, he is entitled to bounce back at this level and is worth another crack here. Storm Catcher was a game winner over this trip at Chelmsford in February and he can have a say in proceedings off 4lb higher, while Obsidian Knight is capable of being in the mix.
It's fair to say this is wide open. DIDEROT has started 2023 with 3 very solid efforts and gets the vote but there are lots of dangers, headed by Obsidian Knight, who has a good course record, Million Thanks and last year's winner Dembe.
The choice is OUTBREAK who was unlucky not to go even closer when fourth in the Lincoln Trial last month after meeting early trouble.

SPRING PROMISE was receiving 7lb from Choisya when coming out on top in a tight finish here in February, but the latter has since run well from a mark of 84 in handicap company, so the unexposed daughter of Lope De Vega doesn't look overburdened by her opening mark of 78, with further improvement likely. Sayifyouwill won a similar C&D event in February and she must be respected raised just 1lb, along with Miss Bella Brand, who should appreciate a step up in trip having finished a staying-on second at Chelmsford last time.
SPRING PROMISE had more in hand than the bare margin suggests when winning her maiden over C&D 7 weeks ago and an opening mark of 78 may underestimate her. The unexposed Incrimination is a possible threat, while the reliable Granary Queen should be in the mix again.
Although taking on seasoned rivals, SPRING PROMISE (nap) should have more to give at 7f. Sayifyouwill is preferred of the others.

6th (2) (14/1 -40%) Havana By The Sea |
14/1(-40%) | (2) Havana By The Sea 14/1, Resumed winning ways at Newcastle in November and ran well when third in 8-runner nursery at Southwell (6.1f) on her most recent outing in December, doing about as well as could be expected given how the race panned out. That form has worked out, so she must enter calculations back from a break.
7th (1) (3/1 +25%) Huberts Dream |
3/1(+25%) | (1) Huberts Dream 3/1, Shrugged off a penalty to complete a hat-trick in straightforward fashion over C&D in December. 12th (12) (100/1 -150%) Warminster |
100/1(-150%) | (12) Warminster 100/1, Winner at Kempton in January but was below form at Chelmsford last week. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
EXPERT AGENT arrives in search of a hat-trick having recorded back-to-back successes recently, the latest of those coming over C&D, and a subsequent 5lb rise in the handicap might not be enough to halt further progress. Huberts Dream is weighted to reverse the form with his recent Wolverhampton conqueror Democracy Dilemma, and he should appreciate the return here, where he boasts three wins from four visits. Havana By The Sea should not be underestimated on her return from a 113-day absence.
EXPERT AGENT has returned from a break a much-improved model and there's no real urge to oppose him in his hat-trick bid after having scored with a bit up his sleeve over C&D last time. Havana By The Sea ran well in a race that's worked out well at Southwell on her most recent outing, so she must enter the reckoning, while Maharajas Express is worth another chance having had little go right on his handicap debut at Kempton.
Expert Agent is greatly respected but HUBERTS DREAM can resume winning ways back at 6f.
Ths is the racecard key.
