1st (8) (11/4 +31%) Moonlit Potter |
11/4(+31%) | (8) Moonlit Potter 11/4, Showed something to work on when fourth in a bumper at Wetherby in November and likewise on hurdles debut at Huntingdon where she was fourth in an 11-runner novice (20.7f, soft). The first 2 home in that contest look useful and she should have a big part to play here. Couldn't sustain effort on 2m4f hurdle debut but looks a potential improver this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (13/8 +1%) Followango |
13/8(+1%) | (5) Followango 13/8, Irish point winner barely had to come off the bridle to make a winning Rules debut in a 2m bumper at Ffos Las in November, proving 19 lengths too strong for the re-opposing Bluella Bresil. Placed both starts in 2m novice hurdles at Chepstow and improvement likely now faced with a stiffer test. Won Irish point; hacked up on bumper debut; close 2nd in 2m hurdle latest; will stay. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (10/1 -25%) Bluella Bresil |
10/1(-25%) | (3) Bluella Bresil 10/1, Runner-up on both starts in bumpers and reportedly lost her action when pulled up on hurdles bow over C&D at the end of November. Since undergone a wind op (also sports a first-time tongue strap) and it'll be interesting to see how she shapes up in the betting. Runner-up in two bumpers but pulled up on C&D hurdle debut; had wind op since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (7/2 +0%) Ask Lileen |
7/2(+0%) | (1) Ask Lileen 7/2, Form of her mares' point maiden success in February 2022 couldn't have worked out much better (she beat none other than Apple Away, a Grade 1 winner over hurdles last season). Entitled to come on for hurdles/Rules debut fourth at Fontwell (19.2f, heavy) in December and she's a big player. Beat smart one in Irish point; better for hurdle debut in December when back from absence. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (100/1 -614%) Sans Choix |
100/1(-614%) | (10) Sans Choix 100/1, Has only hinted at ability in a trio of bumpers and big step forward needed now tackling hurdles. Bumper promise; flew too high since; unraced on testing ground; hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (11) (12/1 -50%) Shady Daisy |
12/1(-50%) | (11) Shady Daisy 12/1, Sister to a couple of bumper winners and solid start when third at Newton Abbot (16.7f) in May 2022. Fair to say that she has failed to build on that since, however, for all that she wasn't entirely disgraced on return/hurdles debut at Hereford. Best bumper form on good ground; was entitled to need the run on hurdle debut; can improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (9/1 +64%) Saint Bibiana |
9/1(+64%) | (9) Saint Bibiana 9/1, Fair bumper winner for Kim Bailey but she hasn't shown a great deal in 2 starts switched to hurdles for new yard. Bumper winner in the mud; kept it low key in two hurdle runs for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (100/1 -400%) Chase Park |
100/1(-400%) | (4) Chase Park 100/1, Wasn't disgraced when fourth back from 18 months off in a Huntingdon bumper but subsequent efforts (the latest at Exeter was her hurdling debut) have left much to be desired. Close up in the 2nd of two bumpers; needs improvement on recent hurdle debut at Exeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (7) (40/1 -186%) Miss Hunky Dory |
40/1(-186%) | (7) Miss Hunky Dory 40/1, Beaten a fair way when third on debut in a bumper at Exeter. That effort was not completely devoid of promise but she nevertheless appeals as more of a long-term project. Good jumps pedigree; kept plugging away when 3rd on belated bumper debut at Exeter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (80/1 -142%) Miss Ghillie |
80/1(-142%) | (6) Miss Ghillie 80/1, Failed to complete both starts in points in the spring and has failed to trouble the judge in a couple of Hereford maiden hurdles. Probably more of a handicapping prospect. Non-completer in two points; has not achieved enough in either hurdle start to be fancied. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (2) (150/1 -127%) Ballygelly |
150/1(-127%) | (2) Ballygelly 150/1, £25,000 purchase after getting off the mark in Irish points at the second attempt in October. However, she offered little starting out under Rules in a mares' novice at Warwick and now tried in a tongue strap. Irish point winner; easy to back and tailed off on Warwick hurdle debut for new yard. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Moonlit Peter showed enough ability on her debut when finishing fourth at Huntingdon to suggest she will have a race of this nature well within her compass soon, but she could come out second best to FOLLOWANGO. Evan Williams' bumper winner took a step forward from her debut over hurdles to fill the runner-up spot at Chepstow over 2m last time and she was strong at the finish that day, suggesting this step up in trip could bring out the improvement required for her to go one better. Ballygelly completes the shortlist in a first-time tongue-tie.
This step up in trip promises to suit FOLLOWANGO and she is taken to open her hurdles account at the third attempt. Next on the list is Ask Lileen, who looks sure to build on her debut effort in this sphere at Fontwell where she was returning from 18 months off, while Moonlit Potter holds solid claims judged on what she showed at Huntingdon last month.
Ask Lileen makes some appeal but FOLLOWANGO can benefit from the greater test of stamina than at Chepstow last time out.

1st (8) (13/8 +35%) Yellow Star |
13/8(+35%) | (8) Yellow Star 13/8, Fairly useful form at best on the Flat for Richard Hannon. Bought for 22,000 gns in October. Shaped as if he'd benefit from the experience when third in a juvenile at Kempton a month ago. Makes plenty of appeal. Useful pedigree; had soft-ground Flat form; promising hurdle debut at Kempton for new yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (4/5 +20%) Be Aware |
4/5(+20%) | (1) Be Aware 4/5, Brother to connections' useful hurdler/chaser Lac de Constance and looked above average when making a successful start in a 16-runner novice at Newbury on hurdling debut. Open to improvement and worth a chance to defy a penalty. Made good impression when coming through strongly to win at Newbury (2m) on hurdle debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (9/2 +0%) Dominic's Fault |
9/2(+0%) | (2) Dominic's Fault 9/2, Well-bred, rangy sort who overcame a lengthy absence to land a 6-runner novice at Leicester a month ago. Type to do better still if he can stay sound. Defied absence to win at Leicester (1m7f, heavy); should improve but likely needs to. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (80/1 -60%) Henrysbrotherjack |
80/1(-60%) | (3) Henrysbrotherjack 80/1, Bred to make a hurdler but looked badly in need of experience at Wetherby on first go at it 19 days ago. Likely to need more time. Useful pedigree; well held on hurdle debut; stablemate Dominic's Fault is more interesting. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (100/1 -52%) Ill Reef |
100/1(-52%) | (4) Ill Reef 100/1, Fairly useful form in bumpers but, having left Nick Littmoden, was a big price when falling at Southwell on hurdling debut. Bit to prove on the back of that. Bumper winner in France last April; fell early on recent hurdle debut (100-1). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (66/1 -230%) Master Chartwell |
66/1(-230%) | (7) Master Chartwell 66/1, Seemed to show a fair level of ability on his Flat debut but well below that level in subsequent outings in that sphere and first go over hurdling (at Plumpton 15 days ago) was underwhelming. Some Flat promise but finished remote on Plumpton hurdle debut and handicaps more likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (6) (200/1 -100%) Dream Frontier |
200/1(-100%) | (6) Dream Frontier 200/1, Little form in varied events on Flat. Hard to make a case for on hurdling debut. Lowly rated Flat maiden; big stamina query on testing ground now switched to hurdles.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Last-time-out winners BE AWARE and Dominic's Fault look the standouts in this contest, with a slight preference for the former. Dan Skelton's gelding struck on his debut by just over two lengths at Newbury and, with any amount of improvement to come, he can make it two out of two. As for the latter, he put his previous mishap at Aintree last year well behind him when getting up in the dying strides at Leicester on his latest outing and he could have more to offer. Intrepide Sud is another to consider on his hurdles debut.
BE AWARE had a bit to spare when making a successful start at Newbury three weeks ago, so he's preferred to Yellow Star, who showed plenty when third in a juvenile at Kempton last month. Dominic's Fault also has the potential for better.
Yellow Star ran with great credit at Kempton but BE AWARE had a copybook introduction to hurdles at Newbury and can defy a penalty.

1st (9) (12/1 +45%) Whydah Gally |
12/1(+45%) | (9) Whydah Gally 12/1, Unreliable type who scored at Lingfield on his return but below par over hurdles at Chepstow and in Fontwell handicap chase since. Plenty to prove. Three hurdle wins, including at 2m7f here in November, but not as good over fences. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (9/4 +55%) Jubilee Express |
9/4(+55%) | (5) Jubilee Express 9/4, Fairly useful winner at 20f over hurdles. 5/1 and cheekpieces on for 1st time, fair third of 8 in handicap chase at Exeter (24.2f, heavy) 54 days ago. Needs to build on it. Stayed 2m7f over hurdles; improved on chase debut when 3rd over 3m latest; new trip query. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (5/2 +25%) Movethechains |
5/2(+25%) | (1) Movethechains 5/2, Got back on track with victory in 12-runner handicap chase at this C&D (good to soft) 23 days ago. Hiked up 9 lb but this 5-time course winner is a player once more. Won 5 from 6 here; back to form latest; still 3lb lower than his 2nd in this last February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (33/1 -200%) Max Dynamo |
33/1(-200%) | (3) Max Dynamo 33/1, Veteran who made light of a 10-month absence to win at Chepstow a year ago and added to his good record fresh when second in the Southern National at Fontwell on reappearance. Out of depth from 7 lb out of the handicap in Welsh National since but will make more of an impact here. Dashing veteran; good 2nd in Southern National in November; tough task since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (15/2 +38%) Silver In Disguise |
15/2(+38%) | (7) Silver In Disguise 15/2, Scored at Wetherby last April and got back on track when fifth of 8 in handicap chase at Doncaster (24f, good to soft) 16 days ago, facing an inadequate test. In the mix now back up in trip. Useful 3m6f run on soft last spring; mixed since but return to these conditions will suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (12/1 -60%) Grove Road |
12/1(-60%) | (8) Grove Road 12/1, Looked a promising stayer in the making when winning a brace of novice hurdles in late 2022. Not kicked on since but at least his latest third in handicap chase at Uttoxeter 17 days ago was a big step up on his chase bow. More to offer. Acts well on testing ground; open to improvement in just his 3rd chase; stamina to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (18/1 +45%) Iceo Madrik |
18/1(+45%) | (2) Iceo Madrik 18/1, Pulled up in handicap chase (20/1) at Plumpton (28.5f, good to soft) 37 days ago, beaten quickly circuit out. Twelve runs since last win in 2022. Useful chaser in France; slow to acclimatise in Britain, pulled up all three starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (4) (20/1 -67%) Valleres |
20/1(-67%) | (4) Valleres 20/1, Unreliable type who was pulled up in handicap chase at Aintree (25f, heavy, 7/2) 49 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Needs a couple of these to falter. Well below best on return at Aintree; well treated on past form and yard won this in 2022. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|RO| (10) (5/1 +0%) Head And Heart |
5/1(+0%) | (10) Head And Heart 5/1, Got off the mark in 3m handicap chase at Huntingdon last spring and better than ever this season, resuming winning ways in first-time headgear at Warwick last month. Shapes as though she'll stay this far and should go well again. Two chase wins, most recently over 3m1f on soft; up 7lb but has potential as a stayer. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
MOVETHECHAINS comfortably secured victory by seven lengths in this grade over C&D last month and he was hit with a 9lb rise for that success. Considering his superiority over his rivals that day, he could be the one to beat again. Jubilee Express was well beaten in third at Exeter last time, but he has been dropped 1lb for that and that could bring him into contention. Of the remainder, Grove Road makes the most appeal after his third at Uttoxeter.
A few with chances but Gary Moore's MOVETHECHAINS goes really well round here and is weighted to go close on the back of his resurgent C&D success. Head And Heart rates a big danger stepping up in trip, with the unexposed chaser Grove Road another who can have a say in a competitive event.
The striking course record of MOVETHECHAINS earns him the vote, although Head And Heart could be dangerous upped in trip.

1st (5) (8/13 +44%) Major Fortune |
8/13(+44%) | (5) Major Fortune 8/13, Confirmed earlier promise to get off the mark in 11-runner handicap hurdle at Market Rasen on Boxing Day. Further progress when going in again upped to 25.5f at Hereford (good to soft) and a 6 lb rise may not be enough to stop him in his tracks. Led close home on 2nd start for yard (2m4f); suited by 3m2f since; can cope with 6lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (11/2 -38%) Bampton Star |
11/2(-38%) | (6) Bampton Star 11/2, No real impact in 4 appearances over hurdles last season but there were more encouraging signs at Newton Abbot (18.5f, soft) when last seen 10 months ago. Since undergone a wind op and appeals as the type to do better now that he ventures down the handicap route. Minor form; off since last April; could improve for switch to a staying handicap. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (8) (40/1 +20%) Engaging Sam |
40/1(+20%) | (8) Engaging Sam 40/1, Little impact in bumpers/over hurdles so far and it's hard to envisage this 7-y-o finding the required improvement to take a hand in the finish here. Yet to have a say in bumpers or over hurdles, in handicaps on last two starts. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (15/2 -7%) Hi Riko |
15/2(-7%) | (4) Hi Riko 15/2, Upped his game when finding just one too good in handicaps at Uttoxeter and here (both at around 2½m) in November. Disappointing the last twice, latterly tried over fences at Leicester, and needs to get back on track returned to this sphere with cheekpieces enlisted. Two good runs in November; pulled up over hurdles and fences on last 2 starts; new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (11/1 +21%) Elfride |
11/1(+21%) | (7) Elfride 11/1, Improved to win a 23f Uttoxeter handicap last spring but it's all been rather inauspicious since, failing to complete both starts either side of a heavy reappearance defeat at Exeter in November. 2m7f win last May; hard to weigh up after unseating/falling either side of a modest run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (8/1 +43%) Legal Rights |
8/1(+43%) | (2) Legal Rights 8/1, Unreliable type who ended his time with Gary Moore on a low note and hasn't shown much spark in 2 starts for new yard. Connections now turn to more severe headgear (first-time visor replaces cheekpieces/tongue strap). Six wins on Flat/over hurdles but has lost his way; limited appeal in different headgear. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (1) (16/1 -300%) Barncroft |
16/1(-300%) | (1) Barncroft 16/1, Still a maiden following 8 attempts over hurdles but back on the right track on second start for present yard when runner-up at Uttoxeter (2½m, heavy) in November. Remains on a fair mark up 1 lb and could make his presence felt. Lightly raced now; recaptured some form when 2nd over 2m4f latest; bred to stay new trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (66/1 -313%) Can't Buy Time |
66/1(-313%) | (3) Can't Buy Time 66/1, Failed to threaten in a couple of runs for Padraig Roche in Ireland and tailed off starting out for new yard in a novice at Plumpton. Big step forward needed now pitched into a handicap. Minor form but bred to do better now handicapping over a more suitable trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (66/1 -100%) D'ambonnay |
66/1(-100%) | (9) D'ambonnay 66/1, Down the field both starts in bumpers and has fared no better in 3 starts since switched to hurdles. Another who will need to improve significantly in first-time cheekpieces now pitched into a handicap. No impact in bumpers or maiden/novice hurdles; may do better now handicapping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (66/1 -32%) Vintage Icon |
66/1(-32%) | (10) Vintage Icon 66/1, Seemingly of little account and he's 8 lb 'wrong' at the weights for this handicap debut. Low-key form in bumpers and over hurdles; 8lb wrong on handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A sedate gallop proved no barrier for MAJOR FORTUNE, who stayed on well to complete a double at Hereford last month. There looks to be more to come from Dan Skelton's gelding and he could make light work of a 6lb rise in the ratings. The returning Bampton Star is a potential fly in the ointment on his handicap bow, as a mark of 85 looks workable judged on last season's efforts in defeat, while Barncroft also makes some appeal now upped in trip.
BAMPTON STAR is an appealing alternative to the hat-trick seeking Major Fortune, for all that the latter is clearly going the right way and isn't passed over lightly. The selection is surely capable of a good deal better than he showed in maiden/novice company last term and makes his handicap debut off what could turn out to be a handy mark. Barncroft should also be on the premises, provided he is able to build on his improved effort at Uttoxeter.
This is all about MAJOR FORTUNE (nap) who looked to have more to come as a stayer when winning over 3m2f at Hereford last month.

1st (2) (2/1 +33%) Clonakilty |
2/1(+33%) | (2) Clonakilty 2/1, Scored over hurdles at Uttoxeter last season and shaped well on the back of a wind op with tongue tie added when third of 7 in handicap chase at Leicester (15.9f, heavy) 34 days ago. Must enter calculations. Close third at Leicester after a break and he's open to improvement over this longer trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (4) (5/1 -43%) Kingofthewest |
5/1(-43%) | (4) Kingofthewest 5/1, Dual winner over hurdles who got off the mark over fences in 9-runner handicap chase (7/2) at Chepstow (19.4f, heavy) 20 days ago. Merits serious consideration despite a 3 lb rise. Stayed on best to get up when it mattered at Chepstow (2m3f, heavy); just 3lb higher here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (8/1 -45%) Sherborne |
8/1(-45%) | (5) Sherborne 8/1, Won twice over hurdles and confirmed the promise of previous starts in this sphere when winning 2m4f handicap chase at Wincanton. Pulled up at Exeter since so needs to bounce back. Not the easiest to predict but has possibilities if returning to his winning form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (7/1 -75%) Grizzly James |
7/1(-75%) | (7) Grizzly James 7/1, Fairly useful ex-French hurdles winner who scored over fences at Hereford last spring. Got back on track when third of 10 in handicap chase at Plumpton (19.8f, good to soft) 37 days ago. Player off the same mark. Needed a confidence booster and went down by only 4l from the front at Plumpton. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (4/1 +60%) Tea And Chats |
4/1(+60%) | (6) Tea And Chats 4/1, From a good jumps family and fair form when placed twice in novice hurdle. Only ninth of 11 in handicap hurdle at this course (19.5f, good to soft) 23 days ago but no surprise to see him step forward on his chase debut. Maiden hurdler; goes chasing with low mileage and he's bred for it. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (6/1 -9%) Couldbeaweapon |
6/1(-9%) | (3) Couldbeaweapon 6/1, Fair winner at 16f over hurdles who came in a good third of 4 in handicap chase at Taunton (16f, soft) 36 days ago, despite going in snatches. Up in trip and in the picture on just his third go in this sphere. Early days over fences and didn't run badly at Taunton for all that only the three ran. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|F| (1) (14/1 -75%) Casa Loupi |
14/1(-75%) | (1) Casa Loupi 14/1, Fairly useful hurdler back in 2021 and returned from a long absence with a promising display on the Flat at Nottingham in May. However, has run poorly all three starts back over hurdles since. Lots to prove now going chasing. Has questions to answer on chasing debut, for which he's not bred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
A 3lb rise in the handicap for last month's Chepstow scorer Kingofthewest is unlikely to prevent a bold follow-up bid, with this extra yardage appearing in the eight-year-old's favour. However, the stoutly-bred CLONAKILTY has been largely campaigned over two miles and he could unlock enough improvement on this rise in distance to open his account in this sphere. Olly Murphy's inmate edges the vote, with fellow in-form rivals Grizzly James and Couldbeaweapon also entering the reckoning.
KINGOFTHEWEST opened his chasing account at Chepstow last time and a 3 lb rise doesn't look sufficient to prevent another bold showing from David Pipe's 8-y-o. Plumpton third Grizzly James is also weighted to have a big say, with the unexposed Clonakilty another who commands plenty of respect.
It's late in the season for TEA AND CHATS to go over fences but this low-mileage 7yo is bred for it and he showed promise as a hurdler.

1st (1) (11/8 +50%) Just Over Land |
11/8(+50%) | (1) Just Over Land 11/8, Well-bred sort came from further back than those who beat him when third at Chepstow on return. Stretched by trip there next time and can get back on the up returned to 2m after 81 days off/breathing operation. Beaten favourite in last two handicaps; perhaps failed to stay 2m3f last time; had wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (6/1 +50%) Activist |
6/1(+50%) | (5) Activist 6/1, Fairly useful on Flat in France. Underwhelming so far over hurdles, including when sixth on handicap debut at Uttoxeter 5 months ago. Not seen since and cheekpieces are refitted. Showed no obvious benefit for wind surgery when well held at Uttoxeter in August last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (11/4 +50%) Atreides |
11/4(+50%) | (3) Atreides 11/4, Lightly-raced maiden who has shaped better than the result on more than one occasion this term. Can make his presence felt if he settles better. His handicap mark hasn't moved much despite four defeats in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/1 -17%) Tara Iti |
7/1(-17%) | (2) Tara Iti 7/1, Good third of 14 in handicap hurdle (11/2) at Plumpton (15.9f, good to soft) 15 days ago. Becoming well treated and could make his presence felt. Beaten 14l into third last time and could do with drier ground than today's offering. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (13/2 +19%) Uncle Arthur |
13/2(+19%) | (4) Uncle Arthur 13/2, Opened hurdles account on fourth and final start for Fergal O'Brien in December and ran with credit back in handicap company for new yard at Newcastle next time. In the process of running poorly when fell at Musselburgh on latest outing, however. Only hurdle win came in a claimer; hood now tried and he has a bit to prove on balance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
A subsequent wind procedure may have done JUST OVER LAND the world of good having faltered into fourth over an extended 2m3f at Chepstow in November. A return to 2m looks ideal and a breakthrough could be on the cards for Sam Thomas' charge. Although the hat-trick seeking Goguenard is now 8lb higher than his most recent victory at Catterick, he still warrants respect. Uncle Arthur has a hood/tongue-tie combination applied as he attempts to bounce back from a Musselburgh tumble.
Having shaped well on reappearance, JUST OVER LAND was unsuited by the step up in trip last time, so he's worth a chance to get back on the up over a more suitable distance after a break/breathing operation. Hat-trick seeker Goguenard looks the main threat ahead of Atreides.
There's a suspicion that JUST OVER LAND has yet to do himself justice in handicaps and he's now had wind surgery.
Ths is the racecard key.
