The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
BESTALINE hasn't raced for almost a year but has jumping experience and returns at a good time of year – hinting she'll be ready. A debut French flat winner at Nort-Sur-Erdre in May 2022, she was reported to be 'blowing hard' post-race on jumps debut but finishing third to Zarak The Brave last November in a race which has worked out very well. She's A Fine Wine won impressively in March and debuts for new connections. From a talented family whose runners invariably race keenly, she pulled too hard in an April Grade 2 bumper but is better judged on her Southwell success. She is likely to race prominently but cedes hurdling experience to the selection. Mag Dillane has bits of form and can follow on at a respectful distance in third. Not Before Time showed ability on Tipperary debut.
A serious case of quantity over quality in this opener and provided she's ready to roll, BESTALINE is fancied to put her jumping experience to good use and make it third time lucky in this sphere. The obvious danger is She's A Fine Wine, who won a bumper at Southwell back in March and makes her hurdling debut for Henry de Bromhead. Mag Dillane and Not Before Time can fight out third spot.
French Flat winner bBESTALINE\p stands out on her third to the subsequent Galway Hurdle winner Zarak The Brave at Fairyhouse last November

13/8(+28%) | (18) What's Up Darling 13/8, Twice-raced winner in bumpers. Won 15-runner bumper (3/1) at Tipperary (18f, heavy) 171 days ago. Makes hurdles debut. Point/bumper winner, trip may be shorter than ideal but could be good enough. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (15/2 +12%) Diamboy Des Carres |
15/2(+12%) | (6) Diamboy Des Carres 15/2, Thrice-raced winner in bumpers. 4/1 and hooded for 1st time, won 7-runner bumper at Clonmel (16.3f, heavy), better placed than most. Makes hurdles debut. Bumper winner last November, may need further over hurdles but the ground should be a help. |

Open to improvement. Native Speaker appears to be the stable No 1. Chance was harmed by interference from a faller in the early stages here in May.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (17) (3/1 -60%) Walk Away Harry |
3/1(-60%) | (17) Walk Away Harry 3/1, Twice-raced winner in bumpers. 11/1, won 18-runner bumper at Punchestown (18f, good to soft) 177 days ago, suited by increase in trip. Makes hurdles debut. Good bumper form, Punchestown win was obtained at 2m2f, this may be short of his optimum. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (200/1 +20%) Arion Soldier |
200/1(+20%) | (2) Arion Soldier 200/1, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Dam, point winner, out of fairly useful 2¼m-2½m hurdle winner Rossdara. Entitled to come on for the run, First foal, dam point winner, not a likely contender for small Kerry stable on debut.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (14) (250/1 -150%) Rusheen |
250/1(-150%) | (14) Rusheen 250/1, Once-raced maiden. 250/1, ninth of 11 in novice hurdle at Galway (16.7f, heavy) on NH debut 19 days ago. Pulled-up on both starts in points; always at the back first time over hurdles at Galway.. |

150/1(-88%) | (11) Knockbrack Rambler 150/1, Leading Light gelding. Half-brother to fair staying hurdler/fairly useful 3m chase winner Raddon Top. Will only be of interest on debut if the market vibes are upbeat. Half-brother to 2m5f-3m hurdle/chase winner Raddon Top, may find 2m inadequate. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
14th (9) (200/1 +20%) Huckleberry River |
200/1(+20%) | (9) Huckleberry River 200/1, Twice-raced maiden. 200/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, heavy), pulled up before 2 out. Off 9 months. Hooded for 1st time. Three-figure odds when pulled up in two Fairyhouse outings in January, can be ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (15) (33/1 -32%) The Bay Horse |
33/1(-32%) | (15) The Bay Horse 33/1, Mahler gelding. Half-brother to fair hurdler/fairly useful chaser The Bosses Nephew and modest hurdler/chaser Bulls And Mortar, stayed 3m. Market should point the way (What's Up Darling seemingly the stable first-string). Belated debut at the age of seven, decent pedigree; Jack Kennedy on What's Up Darling. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (7) (50/1 -25%) Frontispiece |
50/1(-25%) | (7) Frontispiece 50/1, Fairly useful Flat winner. Second of 7 in handicap (15/8) at Newbury (12f, good to firm). Off 14 months. First run for yard after leaving Amanda Perrett. Interesting candidate for this hurdles debut. Five Flat wins in Britain; best suited by decent ground; belated hurdling debut at nine. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (150/1 -20%) Just Jack |
150/1(-20%) | (10) Just Jack 150/1, Gatewood gelding. Dam placed once over hurdles. Pulled up sole start between the flags and pobably best watched on Rules debut. Failed to run to expectations when favourite for his only point-to-point start. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (13) (150/1 +25%) Pharney Soldier |
150/1(+25%) | (13) Pharney Soldier 150/1, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Watching brief advised first time out. Dam failed to train on after beating the talented Missunited in a course bumper in 2011. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
WALK AWAY HARRY returns from a summer's break, having won at the Punchestown festival. He debuts over jumps but has heavy-ground form and his rider claims 5lb. His owners the Area Fiftyone Syndicate, share the same name as a highly-classified US Air Force training range but their horse notably reappears for a local trainer at a big meet. Native Speaker was left clear to easily win his point-to-point and ran well in a good Cork bumper in March. His jumping experience will help but is vulnerable to smart types. What's Up Darling has point-to-pointing experience and while his bumper form is strong, it was over longer distances which suggests he might prefer further than two miles. Diamboy Des Carres relishes testing ground and is built for fences but hasn't run since November. Ballycallan King has minor place claims.
Some appealing types on show in this maiden hurdle, headed by WALK AWAY HARRY and What's Up Darling, both of whom landed bumpers when last seen in the spring. The form of the Punchestown race won by Walk Away Harry looks pretty decent and he is marginally preferred. Ballycallan King is the clear pick of those with hurdles experience and is much respected, while point winner Native Speaker and interesting Flat recruit Frontispiece are also of interest.
Slight preference is for point/bumper winner WHAT'S UP DARLING over Punchestown bumper scorer Walk Away Harry

Could go well back up in trip for handicap hurdle debut. Placed in heavy ground maiden at Gowran and fair fifth at Fairyhouse; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (10/1 +17%) Swelltime |
10/1(+17%) | (1) Swelltime 10/1, Hooded for 1st time, possibly needed run when seventh of 13 in handicap hurdle at Listowel (20f, soft, 66/1) 34 days ago. Others still more persuasive. Never involved back from break in first-time hood at Listowel and deep ground not ideal. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (10/1 +44%) New Barn Lane |
10/1(+44%) | (8) New Barn Lane 10/1, Not in the same form as previously when well-beaten fifth of 9 in maiden hurdle (66/1) at Cork (24.4f, soft) when last seen in April. Improvement needed as he drops back in distance on handicap bow. Glimmers of ability in soft ground maidens including at this venue; handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (14/1 +36%) He's Home Again |
14/1(+36%) | (10) He's Home Again 14/1, Hooded for 1st time, improved when third of 12 in maiden hurdle at Cork (20f, heavy, 33/1) in March. Should have more to offer as he goes handicapping after 7 months off. Remote third in Cork maiden (2m4f, heavy) when tried in a hood; been off seven months. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (11/4 +21%) Chainofconsequence |
11/4(+21%) | (9) Chainofconsequence 11/4, Sole win at this course last year. In first-time tongue strap, ran as well as ever when second of 11 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16.7f, heavy, 9/1) 19 days ago. Major player. Winner over 2m5f on inner track here last year; second on return to hurdles at Galway. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (20/1 +9%) Flemansflick |
20/1(+9%) | (7) Flemansflick 20/1, After 5 months off, showed bit more than previously when seventh of 14 in maiden hurdle at Listowel (16f, soft, 250/1) 34 days ago. Back up in trip for his handicap debut. Has shown little in maidens; not one to dismiss despite stiff-looking opening mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|DQ| (11) (6/1 -33%) Rockbrook |
6/1(-33%) | (11) Rockbrook 6/1, After 8 months off, produced his best effort when 7½ lengths second of 14 to Millstream Lady in handicap hurdle at Listowel (20f, soft, 22/1) 29 days ago. Task is now to build on his latest run. Chased home Millstream Lady at Listowel and 8lb better off. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
HALSAFARI debuts for a new trainer and runs in a first-time tongue-tie but has claims if recapturing old form, on his favoured heavy ground. His previous win was in 2019 but he competed well at higher levels last winter, returns from a break and contests a winnable race. Millstream Lady won well in a similar Listowel handicap last month but competes from 9lb higher. In-form Chainofconsequence is a previous course winner who competes well at this level while Hazran should improve from a recent flat reappearance. Stablemates Flemansflick and New Barn Lane, along with He's Home Again, debut in handicaps.
Having dropped in the weights, CHAINOFCONSEQUENCE ran at least as well as ever when second at Galway 19 days ago and he can build on that to return to winning ways. Millstream Lady showed improved form when opening her account at Listowel last time and could be the main danger, ahead of Cheerful Chap.
Second on his return to hurdling at Galway, CHAINOFCONSEQUENCE should be suited by this longer trip and can go one better

|PU| (2) (40/1 -150%) Criminal Mischief |
40/1(-150%) | (2) Criminal Mischief 40/1, Winner in hurdle at Clonmel in March. Well below form when fourteenth of 16 in handicap hurdle at the same course (19.1f, soft, 28/1) 164 days ago. Up in trip. 2m winner on heavy was fifth on handicap bow at Tramore; off since May, first try at 3m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (8) (40/1 -150%) Coole Arcade |
40/1(-150%) | (8) Coole Arcade 40/1, Again below form when fifth of 7 in claiming hurdle (8/1) at Clonmel (19.8f, heavy) 24 days ago. Up in trip on first run for yard after leaving Henry De Bromhead (headgear/tongue strap discarded). Three times a winner over 2m (two hurdles, one chase); new yard and stamina a concern. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (12) (150/1 -275%) My Good Pal |
150/1(-275%) | (12) My Good Pal 150/1, Has made little impact so far, fifteenth of 17 in maiden hurdle (250/1) at Navan (20f, good to soft) 36 days ago. Makes handicap debut. 4yo beaten miles all starts in bumpers and maidens; steps up in trip for handicap debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
POSITIVE THINKER has failed in 10 previous hurdle runs but has won both his chases and today reverts to hurdling from a favourable rating. A soft-ground stayer, he is rated 11lb higher over fences following his recent Gowran win, he looks progressive and nicely handicapped. Five-time winner Robyndeglory also stays well and while she has too recent form, isn't ahead of the handicapper. Another Nightmare won over this distance at Listowel and while 5lb higher, might be able to continue her progression. Criminal Mischief won an ordinary Clonmel maiden in March and while well held last-time, could improve a little at this distance. Killinure Lass is dependable at this level and has place claims.
Successful over fences on his latest outing, POSITIVE THINKER can continue his good run of form and take advantage of his lower mark back over hurdles. He is taken to get the better of Robyndeglory, who produced her best effort of the season reverted to hurdling last time, with Mont Saint Vincent completing the shortlist.
Gowran chase winner Positive Thinker will do for many but KILLINURE LASS, equally suited by conditions, is just preferred

6/1(+29%) | (8) Gevrey 6/1, Course winner. Pulled up in handicap chase at Listowel (24f, soft, 13/2) 32 days ago. Claims if on-song this time. Irish Grand National runner-up, pulled up after a bad mistake three out in Kerry National. |

11/2(+39%) | (11) Largy Debut 11/2, Eleven runs since last win in 2021. 10/3, creditable second of 8 in novice chase at Gowran (20f, heavy) 22 days ago. Each-way shout. Ran respectably in good company last term without winning, tailed off on handicap debut. |

20/1(-43%) | (1) Coko Beach 20/1, Pulled up in Grand National (28/1) at Aintree (34.3f, good), dropping away from 4 out. Off 6 months. Significantly back down in trip and probably worth taking on. Won over 3m4f at Punchestown in February, first run since pulled up in the Grand National. |

11/2(+35%) | (4) A Wave Of The Sea 11/2, Thirteen runs since last win in 2022. 12/1, fifteenth of 17 in handicap chase at Listowel (24f, soft) 32 days ago. 6 lb lower in the weights compared to when fourth in this race last year. Good effort when fourth in the Galway Plate, let down by his jumping in the Kerry National. |

14/1(-40%) | (2) Run Wild Fred 14/1, 8/11, 30¾ lengths third of 4 to Noble Yeats in listed chase at Wexford (23f, heavy), folding. Off 11 months but will be a threat if fully tuned-up. Only one win from 15 chase starts, ran only twice last season, questions to answer. |

6th (9) (18/1 -29%) Real Steel |
18/1(-29%) | (9) Real Steel 18/1, Creditable 20¼ lengths fourth of 10 to Mars Harper in handicap chase at Listowel (22f, soft, 16/1) 29 days ago, going in snatches. Must improve. Won Paddy Power at Leopardstown last December, well held by Mars Harper on Listowel form. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (13/2 -44%) Frontal Assault |
13/2(-44%) | (5) Frontal Assault 13/2, Last of 3 in minor event chase (8/1) at Galway (23f, heavy) 19 days ago but merits consideration all the same with Jack Kennedy aboard. Second in 2022 Irish Grand National, hardly the most dependable but Jack Kennedy's choice. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (3) (4/1 +43%) The Goffer |
4/1(+43%) | (3) The Goffer 4/1, 12/1 and tongue strap on for 1st time, creditable fifth of 17 in handicap chase at Listowel (24f, soft) 32 days ago. Shortlist material. Last season's Leopardstown Chase winner, staying-on fifth in the Kerry National. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (13) (12/1 +45%) The Little Yank |
12/1(+45%) | (13) The Little Yank 12/1, Sixteen runs since last win in 2022. 12/1, seventh of 10 in handicap chase at Cork (17.6f, good to soft) 7 days ago, left poorly placed. Significantly back up in trip. Others more persuasive. In fair form before unplaced at Cork last Sunday, up against it in this company. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (7) (14/1 -17%) Defi Bleu |
14/1(-17%) | (7) Defi Bleu 14/1, Creditable third of 27 in handicap chase (28/1) at Fairyhouse (29f, soft), going with enthusiasm. Off 6 months. Can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals. Solid form on final three starts last season notably when third in Irish Grand National. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (6) (13/2 -30%) Mars Harper |
13/2(-30%) | (6) Mars Harper 13/2, Two wins from 4 runs this season. Career best when winning 10-runner handicap chase (7/2) at Listowel (22f, soft) 29 days ago, easily. This is more demanding. Took time to make his presence felt as a chaser, corner turned now, has won last two races. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (40/1 -21%) Cavalry Master |
40/1(-21%) | (10) Cavalry Master 40/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time cheekpieces on for 1st time, below form seventh of 13 in handicap chase at Punchestown (21.2f, good to soft, 14/1). First run for yard after leaving Henry De Bromhead. Successful novice in 2021, long absence to overcome now on first run for Gordon Elliott. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Gordon Elliott runs eight, with Jack Kennedy riding 2022 Irish National runner-up FRONTAL ASSAULT. He should improve from a recent reappearance and wasn't beaten far in January's Thyestes. Stablemates Gevrey and Defi Bleu were second and third in April's Irish National and, while Gevrey pulled up having made a mistake at Listowel latest, he is capable of better. Mars Harper won at Listowel but competes from a career-high mark. Run Wild Fred, winner of the 2021 Troytown, finished second in the 2021 Irish National but has an absence to overcome. Coco Beach, winner of the 2021 Thyestes, is suited by testing conditions, while Paddy Power winner Real Steel would prefer a sounder surface.
Gordon Elliott is mob-handed, fielding eight runners, but it's the Joseph O'Brien-trained A WAVE OF THE SEA who earns the vote. He didn't jump at all well at Listowel last time, but is a big player judged on solid efforts in a Tipperary Grade 3 and the Galway Plate during the summer, plus he's now 6 lb below the mark off which he finished fourth in this race 12 months ago. The Goffer, Frontal Assault and Gevrey, all members of the Elliott battalion, are feared most in that order of preference.
Gordon Elliott supplies eight of the 13. It could pay to take the hint from Jack Kennedy who sticks with FRONTAL ASSAULT

1st (5) (16/5 +51%) Jody Ted |
16/5(+51%) | (5) Jody Ted 16/5, 28/1, creditable second of 14 in handicap chase at Punchestown (21f, good to soft) 177 days ago. Likely player. Decent record after a break and will handle ground; plenty of creditable efforts last term. |

2nd (2) (9/2 -50%) Pats Choice |
9/2(-50%) | (2) Pats Choice 9/2, 5/2, career best when winning 6-runner handicap chase at Galway (18.5f, heavy) 19 days ago, driven out. More needed up 5 lb here, but couldn't rule out all the same. Will be suited by trip and ground; Gilligan's claim negates rise for Galway win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (9/1 -20%) Battle Of Mirbat |
9/1(-20%) | (6) Battle Of Mirbat 9/1, Latest win in chase at Wexford in June. Well-beaten last of 6 to Pats Choice in handicap chase (5/2) at Galway (18.5f, heavy) 19 days ago. Weakened tamely behind Pat's Choice at Galway but probably needed the run; stays further. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/2 -57%) Mica Malpic |
11/2(-57%) | (1) Mica Malpic 11/2, Course winner. Latest win in chase at Kilbeggan in August. Bit below form fifth of 10 in handicap chase at Listowel (22f, soft, 11/4) 29 days ago. Has to be taken seriously. Cheekpieces worn for all wins are missing; goes on soft but doesn't want it this heavy. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (9/2 +10%) Hope Des Blins |
9/2(+10%) | (7) Hope Des Blins 9/2, 5/1, career best when winning 6-runner novice chase at Sligo (17.6f, heavy) 25 days ago, kept up to work. Fair mark returned to handicap company and could make a bold bid from the front. Took her long time to win a beginners' chase which she managed at Sligo; stiffer task. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (16/5 +57%) Sit Down Lucy |
16/5(+57%) | (4) Sit Down Lucy 16/5, 7/2, running well unseated rider in handicap chase at Killarney (20.8f, good to soft) 57 days ago looking sure to be placed. Others more persuasive. Creditable third in Wexford handicap and not done with when departing two out at Killarney. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (11/1 -38%) All Those Years |
11/1(-38%) | (3) All Those Years 11/1, Course winner. 25/1, fell in handicap chase at Killarney (20.8f, good to soft) 57 days ago. Something to find on form. Won over fences here in March; held in handicaps since but handles heavy and not ruled out. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
JODY TED progressed well having returned from 584 days off last season and likes this distance and testing ground. His form last winter was strong and while he returns following a summer's break, contests a lesser handicap than when finishing second to Kilcruit at Punchestown last April. Race-fit, in-form Pats Choice is ground-versatile but is 5lb higher than when winning at Galway. Course winner All Those Years is ground-versatile and was staying on when falling at Killarney in August while similarly-owned Mica Malpic would prefer a sounder surface. Hope Des Blins is in-form but faces a tougher task than when winning at Sligo.
Having finally opened her chase account at Sligo last month, HOPE DES BLINS is taken to follow up back in a handicap off what looks a reasonable enough mark. This is a tougher assignment, but she clearly relishes plenty of cut in the ground and could prove hard to peg back with that confidence-boosting Sligo success under her belt. Mica Malpic will be a threat if able to bounce back from a below-par effort last time and Jody Ted should also be in the mix if ready to roll following a break.
A race designed for horses rated up to 145 but they haven't shown up which gives JODY TED a nice opportunity to land a good prize

1st (6) (1/1 +9%) Quilixios |
1/1(+9%) | (6) Quilixios 1/1, Smart hurdler. 5/2, below form 22 lengths third of 7 to Teahupoo in Red Mills Trial Hurdle at Gowran (16f, heavy). Off 20 months. Makes chase debut. Good shout if ready to go. 2021 Triumph Hurdle winner, no match for Teahupoo following season, remains of interest. |

2nd (4) (7/4 -27%) Cool Survivor |
7/4(-27%) | (4) Cool Survivor 7/4, Useful hurdler. Fell in Mersey Novices' Hurdle at Aintree (20f, good, 50/1) won by Irish Point too far out to suggest outcome. Off 6 months. Makes chase debut. Respected. Progressive novice hurdler before ending the season on low notes at Cheltenham and Aintree. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (14/1 +44%) Captains Nephew |
14/1(+44%) | (3) Captains Nephew 14/1, Promising sort. Fifth of 13 in novice chase (14/1) at Fairyhouse (16.5f, soft) on debut over fences 15 days ago, faring best of those held up. Likely to improve. Maiden hurdle winner on soft, not disgraced on chase debut at Fairyhouse, can improve. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (9) (22/1 +56%) Wee Charlie |
22/1(+56%) | (9) Wee Charlie 22/1, Fair hurdler. Winner in hurdle at Naas in March. 11/1, creditable sixth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Galway (16.7f, soft) 77 days ago. Makes chase debut. Consistent if limited handicap hurdler, place possibility if taking to chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (33/1 +50%) Teescomponentsyess |
33/1(+50%) | (8) Teescomponentsyess 33/1, Third of 8 in novice chase (28/1) at Gowran (20f, heavy) 22 days ago. Remote third at Gowran but managed to finish in front of Backintheroom and Bushmans Pass. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (25/1 +38%) Backintheroom |
25/1(+38%) | (1) Backintheroom 25/1, Promising type. Fourth of 8 in novice chase (10/1) at Gowran (20f, heavy) 22 days ago. May well do better. Has failed to build on the promise of a debut maiden hurdle win, tailed off at Gowran. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (250/1 -150%) Soldier Of Honour |
250/1(-150%) | (7) Soldier Of Honour 250/1, Once-raced maiden. Sixth of 9 in novice chase at Listowel (22f, soft, 80/1) on NH debut 32 days ago, not knocked about. Placed on both starts in points, tailed off on chasing debut in 2m6f Listowel event. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (250/1 -25%) Made In Muckross |
250/1(-25%) | (5) Made In Muckross 250/1, Twice-raced maiden. Pulled up in novice hurdle at Tramore (21.8f, heavy, 200/1). Off 9 months. Makes chase debut. No sign of ability in two runs over hurdles last season, can be left out of calculations. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (2) (150/1 -88%) Bushmans Pass |
150/1(-88%) | (2) Bushmans Pass 150/1, Thrice-raced winner under Rules. Fairly useful winner at 18f in bumpers. Fifth of 8 in novice chase (40/1) at Gowran (20f, heavy) on debut over fences 22 days ago. Won a point-to-point bumper, completely tailed off at Gowran, 35l behind Backintheroom. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|U| (10) (6/1 -9%) La Malmason |
6/1(-9%) | (10) La Malmason 6/1, Promising sort. 13/2, seventh of 8 in novice chase at Fairyhouse (21.5f, soft) on debut over fences 15 days ago. Open to progress. Rated a respectable 122 over hurdles but hard to fancy on the evidence of chasing debut. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Former Triumph Hurdle winner QUILIXIOS might defy a 610-days layoff and score on fences debut. A top notch performer in 2020/'21, he is proven on testing ground and while absent since his Red Mills Hurdle run in February 2022, effectively missed just one full jumps season and being a six-year-old, might retain his ability. Cool Survivor is himself a Listed winning hurdler who finished fourth at Grade 1 level last February. He was reported to have 'stopped quickly' at Cheltenham in March and while vulnerable to an on-song selection, could become a capable chaser. La Malmason has hurdles form and is race-fit but has plenty on her plate while race-fit Captains Nephew is also useful but needs to improve to win.
Though his wellbeing has to be taken on trust following a 16-month absence, QUILIXIOS was much the best of these over hurdles and will take plenty of stopping if he makes a good shape over fences at the first attempt. Cool Survivor, also a talented hurdler, is clear next best ahead of La Malmason.
If fit and ready after a long absence the former Triumph Hurdle winner QUILIXIOS can see off a likely challenge from Cool Survivor

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
