1st (1) (2/5 +56%) Intellotto |
2/5(+56%) | (1) Intellotto 2/5, Debut winner over hurdles at Leopardstown before a very good seventh of 11 to Kargese in Spring Juvenile Hurdle there (16f, soft, 17/2) 36 days ago. Sets a high standard back in these much calmer waters. Respectable effort in Grade 1 latest; down in class here and big player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (10/3 -33%) Karl Des Tourelles |
10/3(-33%) | (2) Karl Des Tourelles 10/3, Won 13-runner juvenile hurdle (100/1) at Gowran (16f, heavy) on NH debut 22 days ago. Should progress so he can't be discounted. Relished testing conditions for shock Gowran win; rider's claim a positive. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (13/2 -117%) San Guido |
13/2(-117%) | (3) San Guido 13/2, Lightly-raced winner over hurdles. 12/1 and blinkered for 1st time, career best when winning 6-runner juvenile hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, heavy) 15 days ago, driven clear. INTELLOTTO was placed a couple of times on the Flat before making a successful start over hurdles at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting. The Joseph O'Brien-trained gelding handled heavy ground well when landing that 19-runner maiden and now takes a drop in class after tackling Grade 1 company at the same venue last month. Karl Des Tourelles caused a 100/1 shock when making a winning debut at Gowran Park on very testing ground and it will be interesting to see how he progresses from that run, while San Guido showed improved form when taking a Fairyhouse handicap in fine style.
INTELLOTTO has much less on his plate than when seventh to Kargese in Leopardstown's Spring Juvenile so is confidently expected to resume winning ways. Both San Guido and Karl des Tourelles have better days ahead of them and can chase home Joseph O'Brien's smart sort in that order.
Skipping Cheltenham, INTELLOTTO has been found a very winnable opportunity here

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Sligo bumper winner A PENNY A HUNDRED successfully switched to hurdles here in October and has filled the runner-up spot on both outings since in decent company. The selection had Judicieuse Allen about six lengths behind when second to smart stablemate Jade De Grugy in a Grade 3 at Fairyhouse last time. Bioluminescence is bred to appreciate this trip and comes here on the back of justifying strong support in a 2m4f Punchestown maiden. Annalecka won a point-to-point and a bumper before making a successful start over hurdles at Punchestown in January but hasn't progressed in two outings since. Sarah Beara has already gained some black type this season while Millstream Lady has progressed well from a lowly mark to win three handicaps.
BIOLUMINESCENCE confirmed she's a useful mare in the making when an easy winner at Punchestown and with plenty more to come, she's marginally preferred in favour of the Mullins duo A Penny A Hundred and Judicieuse Allen.
A half-sister to a winning 3m chaser, A PENNY A HUNDRED looks a good bet to see out this trip and gets the vote over Bioluminescence

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
HE FITZ IN won over this trip at Navan last autumn and was subsequently in front when falling at the last over fences at Sligo. The selection has filled the runner-up spot on all three outings since including at this venue on testing ground. Seangoell won this race back in 2021 and while without a victory since, gave cause for optimism when beating all bar Scarbrook over a similar trip at Thurles last time with Winter Carnival close up in fourth. Captain Jimmy easily won over three miles at Punchestown early last year and is edging back down to a competitive mark, while others to consider include Le Fanu and Eddies Pride.
MADE IN THE WOODS has a lower hurdles mark to exploit and having shaped with promise at Punchestown last time, he looks ready to cash in. Grace Faraday and Winter Carnival are a couple of potential threats.
A tentative vote goes to SHESABREEZE after three runs in maidens, the best of which was in a 2m4f maiden here at Christmas

16/5(-156%) | (1) Find A Fortune 16/5, Progressive type who posted a very good second of 6 in novice hurdle at Thurles (23.6f, soft, 3/1) 17 days ago. Should improve. Player. Steadily progressive and 3m seemed to suit at Thurles; major player in weaker maiden. |

FIND A FORTUNE has come up against some useful sorts in maiden hurdles and appears to have found a decent opportunity to open his account. The Gordon Elliott-trained gelding was fourth behind subsequent Grade 1 winner Dancing City at Navan and has filled the runner-up spot on both outings since including over this trip at Thurles. Oscars Brother was second on all three point-to-point starts and made a bright start under Rules when runner-up to Largy Hill in a three-mile Cork maiden hurdle that has worked out well since. The Story So Far won a 2m2f bumper here at Christmas and should be suited by this step up in trip over hurdles. Givehimthehonour is fitted with cheek pieces as he switches back to a maiden from handicaps.
FIND A FORTUNE is improving as he gains in experience and can open his account now at the chief expense of Oscars Brother who rates a big threat on the back of his Cork second last time out. Givehimthehonour appeals as the pick of the remainder for minor honours.
The Cork maiden in which OSCARS BROTHER finished second in has received several form boosts since and he gets a confident vote

The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
ROYAL THIEF won four times for Henry de Bromhead and only weakened before the last when sixth in the Kim Muir at Cheltenham 12 months ago. The Fame And Glory gelding hasn't made much impact in valuable handicaps this season but should appreciate this drop in class. Falco Blitz beat R'evelyn Pleasure, who won a veteran's race here at Christmas, by seven lengths over this trip at Thurles while Young Dev is another new to this category to consider. The four-time course winner rallied strongly to win at Navan on his last completed start. Sir Bob enjoyed his finest hour when landing the Cork Grand National in November and now reverts back to fences.
With cheekpieces reapplied, YOUNG DEV took advantage of his falling mark when scoring at Navan in February and he's worth another chance having still been in touch when unseating at Leopardstown a week ago. He can get the better of Falco Blitz, who gained a first success for his current trainer last time, while Royal Thief is interesting down in grade.
Choice is NOBODY HOME (nap) who accounted for dual subsequent winner when last seen in October; is ground versatile and runs well fresh

4/1(+27%) | (7) Chosen Diamond 4/1, Winner in chase at Naas in November. Creditable second of 9 in handicap hurdle (7/2) at Navan (20f, heavy) 8 days ago. Switches from hurdles to chase. Good run last week; in fine form although has to prove he can score off this mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
DUNDANIEL won twice in point-to-points before easily landing a hunter chase at Cork last Easter. The Getaway gelding has been placed in a couple of handicaps this term and lost any chance with a bad mistake at the last at Clonmel last month. Chosen Diamond made a winning start over fences in a 2m4f Naas handicap in November and reverted to hurdles earlier this year holding every chance when falling at the last in the Navan handicap won by Butty O Brien before filling the runner-up spot behind the progressive Aodhan May at the same venue last weekend. Macdermott won a maiden hurdle at Tramore last spring but hasn't impressed with his jumping since switched to fences this term including when runner-up to Farmers Lodge at Fairyhouse last time.
MACDERMOTT found improvement last time and, with a slightly better round of jumping, he can defy a mark of 119 on his handicap chase debut. The Gradual Slope is another one that may have been let in lightly and Dundaniel merits respect.
The selection is top-weight MACDERMOTT although his jumping does need to improve from his most recent effort ast Fairyhouse

1st (7) (2/1 -70%) Sommesky |
2/1(-70%) | (7) Sommesky 2/1, €9,000 3-y-o, Soldier of Fortune gelding. Half-brother to fair 2½m/3m chaser Regarde. Dam, ran once over hurdles in France, half-sister to fairly useful hurdler (stayed 2½m) Sabre Hongrois. Notable newcomer, worth taking a chance on. Well-bred and quite stoutly-bred newcomer; no surprise should he be good enough on debut. |

2nd (2) (9/2 -29%) A Tipp For Gold |
9/2(-29%) | (2) A Tipp For Gold 9/2, Thrice-raced maiden. Fourth of 8 in bumper at Punchestown (15.9f, heavy, 20/1) 21 days ago. Solid claims in this less-competitive event. Settled better when a close fourth in a Punchestown bumper last month; capable of better. |

3rd (1) (4/1 -60%) Jackmoon |
4/1(-60%) | (1) Jackmoon 4/1, Twice-raced maiden. Third of 5 in bumper at Fairyhouse (16f, soft, 25/1) 57 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Probably doesn't need to improve to be in the mix here although a tongue-tie is tried. |

4th (8) (6/1 +40%) Broderick |
6/1(+40%) | (8) Broderick 6/1, €16,000 3-y-o, Affinisea gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including bumper winner/useful hurdler Jimmy Breekie, stayed 3m, and fairly useful hurdler Highland Penny, stays 3m. Wears tongue strap. Likely to want further. Plenty of good winners in his pedigree; tongue-tied for his debut and worth a market check. |

5th (9) (28/1 +44%) Alright George |
28/1(+44%) | (9) Alright George 28/1, €2,000 3-y-o, Idaho gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including fairly useful hurdle winner/smart chaser Ain't That A Shame and bumper winner Catching Shadows, stayed 2½m. Stoutly bred newcomer, half-brother to Thyestes winner Ain't That A Shame among others. |

6th (6) (50/1 -52%) Drumgill |
50/1(-52%) | (6) Drumgill 50/1, Thrice-raced maiden under NH rules. 250/1, last of 7 in novice hurdle at Leopardstown (16f, soft) on hurdles bow 7 days ago. Switches from hurdles to bumpers. Soundly beaten in two bumpers and a maiden hurdle; others more likely. |

7th (3) (16/5 +71%) Our Soldier |
16/5(+71%) | (3) Our Soldier 16/5, Once-raced maiden. Fifth of 12 in bumper (33/1) at Leopardstown (16f, good to soft) on NH debut 75 days ago. Could do better. Could be plenty of improvement to come from him although the ground could be an issue. |

8th (4) (100/1 +0%) Bruno From Mars |
100/1(+0%) | (4) Bruno From Mars 100/1, Once-raced maiden. 150/1 and hooded, eighth of 13 in novice hurdle at Fairyhouse (16f, heavy) on NH debut 15 days ago. Makes bumpers debut. Hard to make a case for. Way too keen in a Fairyhouse maiden hurdle on debut; may have knocked off some rough edges. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
OUR SOLDIER made a promising debut when fifth to Goldinthemountains at the Leopardstown Christmas meeting and the third, Cantico, gave the form a boost by winning easily at Navan last month. The Edward O'Grady-trained gelding should benefit from that experience and on a line through Sky Lord has the beating of Jackmoon. The latter has been placed on both starts including when third behind the well-regarded Romeo Coolio at Fairyhouse. A Tipp For Gold appears to be progressing steadily with each run while Sommesky is a newcomer to note. The son of Soldier Of Fortune is a half-brother to a winner and hails from the family of The New One.
The bar isn't set all that high by those with form and SOMMESKY makes appeal on pedigree/connections, so he's worth chancing to make a winning start. A Tipp For Gold is an obvious player and Our Soldier is likely to improve from his debut.
It would be no surprse if the well-bred SOMMESKY was good enough to score on debut ahead of Our Soldier
Ths is the racecard key.
