IGOR STRAVINSKY can gain compensation here after being narrowly denied on his debut at the Curragh. The No Nay Never colt led inside the final furlong then before being pipped at the line by the fast-finishing Zaynab. With that run under his belt he should prove hard to beat now. Apricot Ice sets the standard off her mark of 86 and looks the obvious danger. The Bated Breath filly ran well when second at Dundalk on her return last month and should be a big player again. Sub Rosa was placed a couple of times in England, including a narrow defeat at Lingfield, and is one to note on her first start for Donal Kinsella.
APRICOT ICE pulled clear of a subsequent winner when beaten only by a useful prospect in a similar event at Dundalk on return and can go one better. Igor Stravinsky was only just edged out at the Curragh on debut 3 weeks ago and is the obvious threat with Hilasmos and White Clover best of the others.
She has twice been narrowly beaten by Ballydoyle-trained rivals but APRICOT ICE can see off Aidan O'Brien's Igor Stravinsky.

HIGHBURY can turn around form with Himalayan Heights on his second start. The Galileo colt was green first time in Cork 16 days ago, coming off the bridle turning for home. He was doing his best work at the finish and has only half a length to find with his rival after the pair finished second and third behind Birdman. Himalayan Heights was a touch keen early on then and if he settles better he may finish off stronger this time. Jessica Harrington, who trained the aforementioned Birdman, saddles newcomer Final Entry. The Galileo colt is a half-brother to three winners, including the Group 3-placed Arturo Toscanini.
HIGHBURY showed plenty to work on when third at Cork and shades the vote over Himalayan Heights, who is capable of winning a maiden. Vice President and Final Entry are a couple of newcomers to note.
He was getting the message late on when half a length behind Himalayan Heights at Cork and HIGHBURY can improve past that rival now

1st (7) (13/2 +24%) Wendla |
13/2(+24%) | (7) Wendla 13/2, Lightly-raced winner who recorded a very good 3½ lengths sixth of 11 to A Lilac Rolla in 1000 Guineas Trial (14/1) at this course (7.1f, heavy) 35 days ago. Should improve. Considered. Had the benefit of winning maiden run at Naas under her belt when behind Buttons here (7f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/5 +47%) Buttons |
6/5(+47%) | (2) Buttons 6/5, Promising type. 7/2, 2¾ lengths third of 11 to A Lilac Rolla in 1000 Guineas Trial at this course (7.1f, heavy) 35 days ago, caught further back than ideal. Stable in good form. Should progress. In the mix. Came home well from off the pace when third in strong Group 3 here in April; 1m will suit. |

3rd (6) (66/1 -267%) Vina Arana |
66/1(-267%) | (6) Vina Arana 66/1, Thrice-raced maiden, goo third of 13 in maiden at Dundalk (8f, 7/1) 30 days ago. Difficult ask here, however. Rated 80 after three AW runs; can't be having her in this company.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (20/1 -25%) Unreasonable |
20/1(-25%) | (5) Unreasonable 20/1, Twice-raced winner. 8/1, 6½ lengths seventh of 10 to Content in Staffordstown Stud Stakes at the Curragh (8f, soft). Off 7 months. May well do better. Made winning debut over 1m at Cork (good) but well held in Curragh Group 3 on soft. |

5th (3) (28/1 -56%) Cheeky Wink |
28/1(-56%) | (3) Cheeky Wink 28/1, Won 9-runner maiden at Gowran (9.4f, heavy, 7/1) 19 days ago, kept up to work. Stable having good spell but this is no easy ask. Holds Group 1 entries and off the mark when landing Gowran maiden (9.5f, soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (4) (6/4 -36%) One Look |
6/4(-36%) | (4) One Look 6/4, Promising sort who landed 5-runner minor event (1/20) at Cork (7f, heavy) 43 days ago, pushed out. Tongue strap on 1st time. Leading form claims. Breathtaking debut winner of the Goffs Million last year; up in trip; tongue-tie a worry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (33/1 -200%) Ameilya |
33/1(-200%) | (1) Ameilya 33/1, Won 12-runner maiden at Gowran (8f, soft, 16/1) 18 days ago, keeping on well. More needed here though. Won 1m maiden at Gowran on her return and that is decent form; not one to underestimate. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
We didn't learn much more about ONE LOOK when she went through the motions to score at 1/20 on her return at Cork in late March. The Gleneagles filly had looked a bit special when winning the Goffs Millions by six lengths from a smart sort in Cherry Blossom on her debut last September. This nicer ground suit better now and she is an exciting prospect for classics this season. Buttons is entitled to improve from her comeback run here. She was a staying on third to A Lilac Rolla in the Priory Belle Stakes and looks an obvious danger. Wendla was back in sixth then and has a bit of ground to make up.
ONE LOOK holds the clear edge on form so is fancied to follow up her Cork success in this higher grade. Buttons also has better days ahead of her and looks the one to give her most to do ahead of improving duo Wendla and Unreasonable.
The addition of a tongue-tie to One Look is disconcerting and we'll take her on with BUTTONS, an eyecatcher here over 7f last time

Big shout. The improver in the field but stepping up to 1m for the first time; Listed winner latest. |

4th (4) (15/8 +16%) Power Under Me |
15/8(+16%) | (4) Power Under Me 15/8, Took this 12 months ago and recorded a solid ½-length second of 6 to Goldana in listed race at this C&D (heavy) 32 days ago, sticking to task. 11/2(+78%) | (2) Fiscal Rules 11/2, Useful gelding. 2/1, very good second of 4 in minor event at Gowran (7f, heavy) 3 days ago, just failing. Shortlisted. Nearly beat 104-rated foe at Gowran (7f, heavy) on Thursday; turned out again quickly. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
YOSEMITE VALLEY wasn't stopping over the stiff seven at the Curragh last time and a mile around a bend here shouldn't be an issue. The Shamardal half-brother to Irish Derby runner-up Piz Badile has been campaigned at six and seven to date but powered through the line when winning the Gladness Stakes last time and looks progressive. Bold Discovery has the top rating of 109 and is a smart horse on his day. He was a good winner of the Celebration Stakes at the Curragh over a mile on good ground last year and is entitled to play a big part. Knight To King couldn't match Sunchart in very testing conditions at Naas on his return and may fare better now.
YOSEMITE VALLEY looked better than ever when taking the Gladness Stakes at the Curragh last month and can go in again at the chief expense of last year's winner Power Under Me. In-form duo Fiscal Rules and Real Appeal can also have a say in an intriguing Group 3 event.
Tricky; we'll take a chance on BOLD DISCOVERY who will like the ground, goes well fresh and might be all the better for being gelded

1st (4) (4/5 -29%) Los Angeles |
4/5(-29%) | (4) Los Angeles 4/5, Promising sort. Won 7-runner Criterium de Saint-Cloud (67/10) at Saint-Cloud (9.9f, soft) by neck from Islandsinthestream. Off 6 months but holds leading claims. Unbeaten at two, culminating with a Group 1 success in France; hard to beat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/1 -20%) Euphoric |
6/1(-20%) | (2) Euphoric 6/1, Twice-raced winner. 2½ lengths third of 5 to Bremen in minor event at Cork (10.2f, good to soft, 9/4) 16 days ago. Stable in good form. Open to progress and can go well. Third to Bremen at Cork but no surprise to see him leave that form behind here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (11/2 +61%) Taraj |
11/2(+61%) | (5) Taraj 11/2, Thrice-raced winner. 11/8, won 12-runner maiden at Dundalk (8f), driven out. Off 170 days. Up in trip but this is no easy ask. Progressive last season, albeit his win came in an ordinary maiden; Guineas entry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (18/1 -13%) Keeper's Heart |
18/1(-13%) | (3) Keeper's Heart 18/1, Twice-raced winner. 4/7, won 14-runner maiden at Dundalk (8f), driven out. Off 6 months but up in trip and should have more to offer. Dundalk maiden winner who needs to take a huge leap forward to threaten here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (4/1 +20%) Bremen |
4/1(+20%) | (1) Bremen 4/1, Lightly-raced sort who won 5-runner minor event at Cork (10.2f, good to soft, 4/1) 16 days ago, driven out. Stable in good form so can't be discounted. Improved form in winning at Cork and having the benefit of a run makes him dangerous. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
Group 1 winner LOS ANGELES should prove hard to beat here on his return to action. The Camelot colt got home by a neck in a tight finish to the Criterium de Saint-Cloud on his second career outing in October and that form has worked out well since. Aidan O'Brien has a terrific record in this and Los Angeles should prove the class act. Bremen has already been in winning form this season, claiming a decent little conditions race at Cork 16 days ago. He looks the danger if Los Angeles isn't full wound up. Euphoric, third to Bremen in Cork, should improve from his comeback run and can get into the frame again.
LOS ANGELES signed off at 2yrs with a smart success in the Criterium de Saint-Cloud and can return in style for his in-form yard. Stablemate Euphoric also has better days ahead of him and is next on the list ahead of recent winners Bremen and Keeper's Heart who can fight it out for minor honours.
If there's a future star on show this year it's LOS ANGELES, who should make a better 3yo and he already boasts Group 1 honours.

2nd (3) (11/4 +39%) Finsceal Luas |
11/4(+39%) | (3) Finsceal Luas 11/4, Lightly-raced filly. 18/1, 8½ lengths tenth of 11 to A Lilac Rolla in 1000 Guineas Trial at this course (7.1f, heavy) 35 days ago, finding the competition too tough. Promises to do better back in calmer waters now upped in trip. Her fourth on good ground last season brings her into it; highly tried last time. |

3rd (4) (11/4 -46%) Fleetingly |
11/4(-46%) | (4) Fleetingly 11/4, Twice-raced filly. Blinkered for 1st time, improved on debut form when second of 12 in maiden at Naas (10.4f, soft, 2/1) 13 days ago. Bred to be smart and she appeals as the type to do better again for her leading yard. Positively ridden in the blinkers at Naas but came up shy behind an unexposed filly. |

50/1(+0%) | (1) Breathe Again 50/1, Twice-raced filly. Seventh of 12 in maiden (66/1) at Navan (10f, good to soft) 15 days ago, not knocked about. Looks the type to do better when tackling handicaps. Has something to find and others probably have the greater potential. |

Some promising types in this maiden and OB LA DI is amongst them after her fourth over C&D last month. The winner of that contest wasn't beaten far in the Cheshire Oaks and Johnny Murtagh's Blue Point filly may improve for better ground. She is well entered up in Group contests. Fleetingly improved from her debut to finish second over this trip at Naas and has to be respected. Lope De Lilas holds an Irish Oaks entry and was a warm order for her debut at Galway in the autumn where heavy ground may have counted against her. The 88-rated Finsceal Luas takes a marked step up in trip and is fitted with a tongue-tie while newcomer Shavasi is related to Group winners.
FLEETINGLY has a long way to go if she's to live up to her pedigree but she took a step forward from her debut when second in a Naas maiden 2 weeks ago and she could be worth siding with to take another step forward. Finsceal Luas will benefit from the return to calmer waters and is feared, with Ob La Di and Lope de Lilas other likely improvers.
A few with chances in an interesting maiden. OB LA DI might be the answer if able to build on her eyecatching debut here a month ago.

(9) (25/1 +11%)25/1(+11%) | (9) Lady Arwen 25/1, 25/1, sixth of 8 in handicap at Gowran (7f, soft) 18 days ago, possibly in need of the run after 7 months off. Significantly up in trip. All three wins have been at 7f or 1m and hasn't shone when sent further. |

1st (6) (9/4 +59%) Saturn |
9/4(+59%) | (6) Saturn 9/4, Promising sort. Tongue strap on for 1st time, career best when winning 12-runner maiden at Dundalk (12f, 10/3). Off 165 days. Makes handicap debut. Shortlist material. Made it fourth-time lucky in a weak 1m4f maiden at Dundalk in November; regally bred. |

16/5(+47%) | (2) Ethical Diamond 16/5, Improved to make third Flat start a winning one for Michael O'Meara at Limerick (12.3f) last summer. Useful effort on second of his 3 starts over hurdles for this yard and no doubt he can rate higher still back in this sphere now handicapping. 1m4f maiden winner; hurdling campaign didn't go to plan but still ran well in a Grade 1. |

3rd (5) (6/1 +14%) Global Energy |
6/1(+14%) | (5) Global Energy 6/1, C&D winner. 1 win from 2 runs this year. 3/1, good second of 13 in handicap at this C&D (heavy) 32 days ago. Should go well again. Progressive of late in the mud and obvious claims if as effective on this surface. |

5th (8) (28/1 -100%) Chavajod |
28/1(-100%) | (8) Chavajod 28/1, Course winner. Latest win at Dundalk in January. 15/2, creditable third of 10 in handicap back at that venue (1m) 51 days ago. Back up in trip. Blinkers back on. Has been in good form on the AW but exposed now and others are more intriguing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (10) (13/2 +59%) Hutton Glen |
13/2(+59%) | (10) Hutton Glen 13/2, Fairly useful maiden who finished a creditable fourth of 8 in maiden at this course (9f, good) when last seen in September. Not discounted on return. Consistent maiden; this looks a stronger handicap than the previous one he contested. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (12/1 -140%) Ceallach |
12/1(-140%) | (1) Ceallach 12/1, 4/7, career best when winning 8-runner handicap at Dundalk (12f) in December, produced to lead over 1f out and just pushed out. All 5 victories to date have come at Dundalk but lower turf mark to operate from and not out of things. Best form on the AW but handicapped accordingly and in form when last seen. |

8th (13) (10/1 +0%) Come On The Lads |
10/1(+0%) | (13) Come On The Lads 10/1, 4/1, respectable sixth of 20 in handicap at the Curragh (7f, soft) 6 days ago, going off too hard. Significantly back up in trip. Something to find on form. Has races in him off this mark but best form to date has been at 1m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (12) (14/1 -27%) Complete Fiction |
14/1(-27%) | (12) Complete Fiction 14/1, Course winner. 4/1, career best when winning 18-runner handicap at Galway (8.6f, soft) in August, doing well to get to one who had got first run. Successful on respective return last year but career high mark to defy this time around. Progressive last summer and would have a shout if resuming where he left off. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (3) (20/1 +50%) Grey Leader |
20/1(+50%) | (3) Grey Leader 20/1, Thirteenth of 16 in handicap (25/1) at the Curragh (8f, heavy) 22 days ago. Up in trip. Others more persuasive. Won three of his first five starts but was well behind on handicap debut at the Curragh. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (11) (50/1 -213%) Jaafel |
50/1(-213%) | (11) Jaafel 50/1, First run since leaving Sean Davis when eleventh of 12 in handicap (14/1) at Cork (10.2f, good to soft) 16 days ago. Likely to prove vulnerable to less exposed sorts here. Might not have liked the soft ground at Cork but he's not crying out to be backed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
ETHICAL DIAMOND was bought for plenty of money after winning a 1m4f Limerick maiden for Michael O'Meara last summer and this will be his first start on the level since then. The Awtaad gelding has been hurdling over the winter and ran notably well in a Grade 1 at the Dublin Racing Festival. This trip might be a bit sharp but he looks potentially well handicapped. Saturn is also of interest in his first handicap. Out of the high-class Alpha Centauri, he won an all-weather maiden in good style in November and there should be more to come from him this season. Grey Leader won three times last term including on good ground at Listowel. He may have needed last month's comeback at the Curragh and now steps up in trip.
The well-bred SATURN resumed progress equipped with a first-time tongue strap when successful in a Dundalk maiden in November and he looks the type to improve further now his sights are set on handicaps. Ethical Diamond is another of interest for Willie Mullins, with Ceallach and Global Energy another pair to consider.
The interesting runner is ETHICAL DIAMOND who is thoroughly unexposed now returned to the Flat on goodish ground.

1st (3) (11/8 +39%) Ortelius |
11/8(+39%) | (3) Ortelius 11/8, Promising type. Second of 9 in maiden at this course (10f, heavy, 5/6) 32 days ago. There's a bigger performance in him, particularly now upped in trip, and he should be better than a mark of 85. Beaten three times but this mark could still underestimate his potential. |

2nd (2) (5/1 +23%) Invention |
5/1(+23%) | (2) Invention 5/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 10/3, third of 9 in maiden at this course (10f, heavy) 32 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Going the right way and capable of making his presence felt with another step forward. Unexposed on this quicker ground and he looks certain to benefit for going 1m4f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (10/1 +29%) Tamrat |
10/1(+29%) | (1) Tamrat 10/1, Thrice-raced winner. Fifth of 10 in handicap (16/1) at this course (10f, heavy) 35 days ago, left with lot to do. Has work to do but it's still early days. Below par the last twice but he good ground perhaps the key judged on maiden win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (7/1 -17%) Natural Ruler |
7/1(-17%) | (6) Natural Ruler 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Good second of 9 in handicap at Cork (12.1f, good to soft, 11/4) 16 days ago. Likely to be thereabouts. Up 6lb for his Cork defeat and this looks sure to take more winning. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (9/1 +10%) Huxley |
9/1(+10%) | (4) Huxley 9/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Fourth of 6 in maiden (5/4) at Dundalk (10.7f) 29 days ago. Makes handicap debut. May yet do better. One of his five runs stands out; on balance, others are more intriguing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (22/1 -83%) Cloud Seeker |
22/1(-83%) | (8) Cloud Seeker 22/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Very good second of 8 in handicap (5/1) at Gowran (9.4f, heavy) 19 days ago. Up in trip. Could do better still. Placed in both handiacps; races will come his way but this looks stronger again. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (40/1 -82%) Benvoy |
40/1(-82%) | (7) Benvoy 40/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 33/1, last of 9 in maiden at this course (10f, heavy) 32 days ago. Makes handicap debut. Others preferred. Well behind two of today's rivals on his reappearance here in a maiden. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (5/1 +9%) Cow Chico |
5/1(+9%) | (5) Cow Chico 5/1, Confirmed debut promise when winning 9-runner maiden (1/3) at Dundalk (10.7f) 72 days ago, readily. Makes handicap debut with further progress on the cards, so definite player. Easy winner of a Dundalk maiden and this colt has the pedigree to keep progressing. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's race.
ORTELIUS showed promise in two juvenile outings on decent ground and probably was inconvenienced by testing conditions when second to a stablemate here on his return over 1m2f. Sent off odds-on that day, the Justify colt could be well treated for his handicap debut and promises to be suited by this longer trip. Invention was just a head behind the selection last time and is now 6lb better off including his rider's claim. Cow Chico readily won an all-weather maiden in March under Kevin Stott and he comes over to resume the partnership. The Frankel colt is another unexposed contender.
ORTELIUS has shaped with encouragement on each of his three outings to date, shaping like this step up in trip will be firmly in his favour, so this seven-figure yearling purchase is worth a chance to defy an opening mark of 85 at the possible expense of Cow Chico, an impressive winner at Dundalk last time. Natural Ruler is one of several others with potential.
Aidan O'Brien has won many a handicap with horses bound for Group races and such ambitions remain realistic for ORTELIUS.
Ths is the racecard key.
