1st (3) (5/2 +17%) Saint Riquier |
5/2(+17%) | (3) Saint Riquier 5/2, Fairly useful jumps winner who made a positive return from a long absence last month, building on Sandown third to win Lingfield (AW) handicap 10 days ago. Won second start back (1m4f, AW debut) a long layoff; more to prove on softer than good. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (10/1 +29%) Macari |
10/1(+29%) | (1) Macari 10/1, Modest hurdle winner. Ran to a similar level in 3 maiden/novice events on the Flat last month but stands a more realistic chance now handicapping. Modest hurdles winner; some ability on Flat but more is needed on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (10/1 -43%) Fillyfudge |
10/1(-43%) | (4) Fillyfudge 10/1, Two wins from 5 runs this year, the latest at Yarmouth (1¼m) in July. 10/1, good fourth of 9 in handicap back there 22 days ago. Should play a part again. Not proven on worse than good to soft; second in this last year and won twice this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (12/1 -50%) Awtaad Prince |
12/1(-50%) | (6) Awtaad Prince 12/1, Course winner. Off 4 months, only tenth of 11 in handicap at Lingfield (1m, AW) 19 days ago. Back up in trip. Bounce back needed. Backward steps on last two outings, admittedly 131 days off before latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (11/2 +73%) Upepo |
11/2(+73%) | (5) Upepo 11/2, Had a good spell on AW earlier in the year, winning twice at up to 13f. Below par back from a break at Southwell last month, though, and this trip possibly a bit on the short side. Well below form when back to turf in April and also when next seen three weeks ago on AW. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (10/3 +0%) Fougere |
10/3(+0%) | (7) Fougere 10/3, Winner at Nottingham (1¼m) in July. 2/1, good second of 6 in handicap at Yarmouth (1¼m, good) 16 days ago, doing too much too soon. Can make presence felt. Two starts hooded brought a narrow win and short-head defeat, both at 1m2f on good to soft. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (20/1 +0%) Mariner |
20/1(+0%) | (8) Mariner 20/1, Runner-up twice in June, latterly over C&D. Not in the same form the last twice so needs a return to this venue to help spark a revival. 11-race maiden; 2nd twice over 1m2f in June but always behind on his two starts since. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (10/3 +33%) Double Red |
10/3(+33%) | (10) Double Red 10/3, Still looking for his first success, but fared best of the rest behind a wide-margin winner when second of 11 in handicap at Newbury (1¼m, good to firm) 25 days ago. No forlorn hope with cheekpieces added. Remains unexposed over this trip and placed on two of last three starts; headgear goes on. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (9) (33/1 -32%) Swinging London |
33/1(-32%) | (9) Swinging London 33/1, Well below par on his last 3 outings, the latest at Southwell only 11 days ago. Sole win was over hurdles in February 2022 and that's from 31 races; career-low mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (40/1 -700%) Sophosc |
40/1(-700%) | (2) Sophosc 40/1, Potentially well handicapped but hasn't been seen for 12 months. Betting perhaps the best guide to expectations for a yard also responsible for Saint Riquier. Had a disappointing 2023 but wasn't far away on final start and has come down the weights. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Saint Riquier won under Joe Leavy over 1m4f at Lingfield recently and he merits respect from a 3lb higher mark. However, a drop in trip might not be his ideal scenario and, with that in mind, preference is for FOUGERE. The daughter of Bated Breath was narrowly denied in an apprentices' handicap at Yarmouth last time out when attempting to follow up her earlier success at Nottingham and, now that Ethan Jones can claim 5lb aboard the filly, she can go one better. Fillyfudge heads the remainder.
FOUGERE has a win and close second to her name since fitted with a hood and can get her head back in front here. Fillyfudge is another who has reacted well to headgear in recent starts and can give Dean Ivory's filly most to do ahead of Saint Riquier and Double Red.
Double Red, Fougere and Fillyfudge have a shout but SAINT RIQUIER, who had a long layoff, can continue to rebuild.

1st (4) (12/1 +40%) Under The Sea |
12/1(+40%) | (4) Under The Sea 12/1, Modest form. Blinkered first time, eighth of 9 in C&D nursery (good to firm, 14/1) 30 days ago. Cheekpieces the headgear of choice this time. Two bits of modest form; tried blinkers latest (well beaten) and now has cheekpieces. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (11/10 +0%) Al Waseela |
11/10(+0%) | (3) Al Waseela 11/10, Improved fourth on C&D nursery debut last month and took another step forward when second at Chelmsford (7f) 10 days ago. The first 2 were well clear so even a 5 lb rise could prove lenient. Improved efforts (4th and 2nd) with cheekpieces fitted in 7f nurseries on last two outings. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (6/1 +50%) D Day Harley R |
6/1(+50%) | (1) D Day Harley R 6/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 125/1, eighth of 13 in novice at Windsor (6f, good to firm) 29 days ago. Makes handicap debut. His opening mark demands improvement. Well held at big prices all three runs but showed promise on second start; nursery debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (5) (7/1 -17%) Havana Club |
7/1(-17%) | (5) Havana Club 7/1, Improved effort when third of 7 in nursery at Kempton (7f) 20 days ago, although he was beaten just under 6 lengths. Closer when making most on nursery debut at Kempton (7f, AW) but still needs better. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (7/1 -8%) Lolapalooza |
7/1(-8%) | (2) Lolapalooza 7/1, Modest form. Blinkered first time, beaten just over 8 lengths when third of 6 in maiden at Nottingham (6f, good) 21 days ago. Makes handicap debut. The headgear is removed but moving back up in trip should be a help on this handicap debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (11/2 -100%) Liricist |
11/2(-100%) | (7) Liricist 11/2, Much improved when springing a 66/1 surprise in 7f Chepstow nursery (good to firm) 8 days ago. Carries penalty. Should go well again. Has penalty but far more solid claims than most of these after 66-1 win at Chepstow (7f). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (6) (33/1 -32%) Jimmy Henry |
33/1(-32%) | (6) Jimmy Henry 33/1, Poor form for Alice Haynes, including tailed off on Catterick nursery debut 7 weeks ago. Remains to be seen whether he fares any better for a new stable. Low-level form, the best of it on debut; remote on latest outing and has left Alice Haynes. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
Al Waseela was just touched off at Chelmsford last month and she enters calculations back on the grass, while Lolapalooza showed plenty more at Nottingham three weeks ago and is interesting now pitched into nurseries. However, the vote goes to LIRICIST. Tony Newcombe's filly was 13lb out of the handicap when winning at odds of 66/1 recently and he must shoulder a penalty today. There was no fluke about that performance, though, and he could repeat the dose.
AL WASEELA looks to have got off lightly with a 5 lb rise for Chelmsford given she was a long way clear of the rest. Last week's big-priced Chepstow winner Liricist can give her most to do.
Liricist and Al Waseela have reasonable claims but handicap newcomer D DAY HARLEY R might be about to take a step forward.

1st (1) (8/13 -23%) Formal |
8/13(-23%) | (1) Formal 8/13, Dubawi filly made a highly promising debut when easily bagging 7-runner maiden (6/1) at Newbury (7f, good to firm) 47 days ago. Open to significant improvement and can defy a penalty. 6-1 but made up her ground in striking style to win maiden at Newbury (7f, good to firm). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (11) (8/1 +60%) Starlit Spice |
8/1(+60%) | (11) Starlit Spice 8/1, 180,000 gns foal by Sea The Stars. Sister to winner up to 1¼m Set Point and half-sister to 7f winner Jonny Concrete. The stable has plenty of juvenile talent so a market move for this one could prove significant. 180,000gns foal by Sea The Stars; the yard's 2yos have done well on turf this term. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (12) (22/1 -57%) Storm Lady |

13/2(+46%) | (8) Maybe Not 13/2, 8/1, offered something to work on when fifth of 9 in novice at Kempton (7f) on debut 27 days ago. Open to improvement for top yard. Should be capable of a lot better than on Kempton debut but Orchid was nearly 6l ahead. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (13) (80/1 -60%) Unforgetable Belle |
80/1(-60%) | (13) Unforgetable Belle 80/1, Modest form at best both starts and likely more one for nurseries after this. Modest form both starts and hard to fancy just yet. |

200/1(-300%) | (9) Nippasso 200/1, Sogann filly. Dam maiden, including over jumps. Makes no obvious paper appeal and best watched. By Sogann; fifth foal; dam multiple point winner and placed Flat/hurdles/chase. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||

50/1(-52%) | (6) Eliza Bennet 50/1, 50/1, ninth of 11 in maiden at Kempton (6f) on debut in June. Off 3 months. 50-1, modest form when ninth of 11 in maiden at Kempton (6f, AW) over three months ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (66/1 -100%) Cosi Bear |
66/1(-100%) | (5) Cosi Bear 66/1, 50,000 gns Kodi Bear filly. Dam 2-y-o 1m winner out of smart 2-y-o 1m winner Wingspan. Most from the stable are better for a run but the betting should provide more clues. 50,000gns yearling by Kodi Bear; first foal; dam 1m 2yo winner (RPR 76). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (250/1 -150%) Borderline Madness |
250/1(-150%) | (4) Borderline Madness 250/1, 66/1, last of 8 in novice at Newmarket (7f, good) on debut 18 days ago. May foal; 66-1 when remote in a recent Newmarket novice (7f, good). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (10) (10/3 -33%) Orchid |
10/3(-33%) | (10) Orchid 10/3, Promising start to her career when second of 9 in novice at Kempton (7f) 27 days ago. Open to progress and should go well. 10-1, made a big challenge when second in novice at Kempton (7f, AW); has big-race entries. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (125/1 -279%) Freedom Bay |
125/1(-279%) | (7) Freedom Bay 125/1, Muhaarar filly. Half-sister to winner up to 6f Coup de Force and 7.4f winner Beau Gars. Dam 5.7f-7f winner. Bred to have a future but would be a surprise winner on debut. Dam has had two winners, including Coup De Force (5f/6f for yard, including second 2yo go). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (2) (200/1 -506%) Addenda |
200/1(-506%) | (2) Addenda 200/1, 8/1, last of 14 in maiden at Kempton (7f) on debut 29 days ago. First-time cheekpieces need to make a big difference. 8-1 at Kempton (7f, AW) but got upset in the stalls and did not show much; cheekpieces now. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
FORMAL's debut success had already been franked, but the form received yet another boost when the third-placed horse finished a creditable second at Listed level on Saturday. The daughter of Dubawi could prove too strong under a penalty with that in mind, and she is preferred to Orchid, who struck the woodwork on her racecourse debut at Kempton. Others to note include Storm Lady and Maybe Not.
FORMAL looked a good prospect on her Newbury debut and can defy a penalty under Ryan Moore. Orchid shaped well when second on her debut 4 weeks ago and is the obvious one to follow Sir Michael Stoute's charge home. Maybe Not can build on her opening run at Kempton and figure prominently, while Starlit Spice is a newcomer to monitor in the betting given her stable's good record with 2-y-os in 2024.
This looks a two-horse race between FORMAL and Orchid. Formal made a very positive impression at Newbury and is given the vote.

1st (11) (4/9 +39%) Starzintheireyes |
4/9(+39%) | (11) Starzintheireyes 4/9, Starspangledbanner colt who made a fine start to his career when second of 13 to Field of Gold in maiden at Newmarket (7f, good, 18/1) in July. Will be very hard to beat if making the anticipated improvement. Sets a good standard with his eyecatching 2nd at Newmarket (7f, good) two months ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (7/2 +36%) Archivist |
7/2(+36%) | (2) Archivist 7/2, 7/1, held back by inexperience when fourth of 5 in maiden at Lingfield (7f, good to firm, 11/2) on debut 70 days ago. Looks sure to improve. 11-2 at Lingfield (7f, good to firm), showing promise but looking a longer-term prospect. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (10) (5/1 -25%) Spirit Of Summer |
5/1(-25%) | (10) Spirit Of Summer 5/1, Promising second in a newcomers event at Newmarket (7f, good) a month ago. Found the strong Convivial maiden at York too hot to handle next time but should make a much bigger impact here. 2nd at Newmarket (7f, good) before a lesser show in valuable 7f maiden at York; Gr2 entry. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (33/1 -32%) Lunar Orbit |
33/1(-32%) | (4) Lunar Orbit 33/1, €100,000 2-y-o by Sea The Moon gelding. Half-brother to 7.5f winner Bernardo Bellotto and useful 11.6f/12.5f winner Deakin. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (12/1 -20%) Binhareer |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (40/1 -21%) One More Chrome |
40/1(-21%) | (6) One More Chrome 40/1, £26,000 Mohaather gelding. Closely related to useful 2-y-o 6f winner Showout and half-brother to several winners, including 7f/1m winner Bella Ragazza. Probably best watched on debut. £26,000 yearling by Mohaather; closely related to two winners and half-brother to six. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (5) (150/1 -355%) Nebrook Dream |
150/1(-355%) | (5) Nebrook Dream 150/1, Third on AW debut last month but the form is nothing special and he was well beaten on turf at Yarmouth since. Third at Chelmsford (7f, AW) but well beaten when 20-1 at Yarmouth (7f, good to soft). |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) (150/1 -971%) Telecommunication |
150/1(-971%) | (12) Telecommunication 150/1, Has shown ability on both starts but he is one who is more likely to come into his own when handicapping. Never threatened at Newmarket (7f, good) or Goodwood (1m, good to soft) last month. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (100/1 -203%) Aim For The Bull |
100/1(-203%) | (1) Aim For The Bull 100/1, 16/1, last of 5 in maiden at Brighton (6f, good to soft) on debut 32 days ago. Can only watch after that. 16-1, last of five in maiden at Brighton (6f, good) one month ago, so best watched for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (9) (66/1 -164%) Something Splendid |
66/1(-164%) | (9) Something Splendid 66/1, Postponed colt. Closely related to useful 2-y-o 5f winner Mauiewowie and half-brother to several winners, including useful 1m-10.2f winner Something Enticing. Makes some paper appeal. The betting should provide more clues. By Postponed; ninth foal; dam has produced five winners, two of them useful. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (200/1 -100%) One More Guinness |
200/1(-100%) | (7) One More Guinness 200/1, Has failed to beat a rival in both starts. Big outsider. Finished last in novice contests at Chester (6f, good) and Newcastle (6f, AW). |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Ryan Moore and Sir Michael Stoute team up with Archivist here and although the Dubawi colt was beaten close to six lengths on his debut, plenty of improvement is expected. He can go well along with Starzintheireyes, who finished second after a poor start at Newmarket on his only run and should have learned plenty from the experience, but SPIRIT OF SUMMER may be worth another chance. Second on debut and outclassed in a valuable maiden, he may find this level more to his liking.
STARZINTHEIREYES chased home Solario winner Field of Gold on his Newmarket debut in July and sets a high standard for the rest to aim at, particularly if making the expected improvement. Spirit of Summer can be forgiven his run in the Convivial at York and his second on Newmarket debut prior to that marks him down as a promising colt so he's second choice ahead of Archivist, who should be all the wiser with his Lingfield debut behind him. Binhareer looks the most interesting of the newcomers.
Although Spirit Of Summer has his sights lowered, ready preference is still for STARZINTHEIREYES who shaped so well two months ago.

17/2(-21%) | (5) Islanova 17/2, Fair maiden. Creditable second of 11 in novice (6/1) at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 25 days ago, no match for winner. Fourth of 5 in her previous handicap. 0-6, unraced on softer than good; chalking up the minor honours this season; up from 9.4f. |

10/3(-11%) | (7) Laura Bay 10/3, Made it 2-3 in handicaps when seeing off 6 rivals at Sandown (1¼m, good to soft) 47 days ago, driven out. Stable going well. A 5 lb rise shouldn't prevent another prominent showing. Disappointed over 1m4f two runs ago but a 1m2f handicap winner either side of that. |

8th (3) (12/1 +45%) Moonlit Cloud |
12/1(+45%) | (3) Moonlit Cloud 12/1, Latest win at Bath in May. 16/1, respectable fifth of 10 in handicap at Ascot (10f, good) 60 days ago. Won at Bath in May but looks vulnerable to an improver among today's 3yo rivals. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Both runnings of this contest so far have gone to three-year-olds and that trend may continue if EHTIRAM runs to her best. An easy winner over this trip at Chelmsford in June, she has weakened late on over further on both starts since but looks all set to make the most of a return to what seems her best distance. Laura Bay has won twice this season over this trip and appears a serious rival, as does C&D winner Salamanca City, who is equally hard to ignore.
David Menuisier has his team in form so LAURA BAY is taken to step up again and make it 3-4 in handicaps. Ciara Pearl has had an excellent season and may give her most to do ahead of Hot Fashion and Salamanca City, a last-time-out C&D winner.
Ciara Pearl continues to run well but the potential seems to lie principally with LAURA BAY (nap) and Salamanca City.

6th (3) (8/1 -300%) Yazaman |
8/1(-300%) | (3) Yazaman 8/1, 4 wins from 9 runs this year. Completed 4-timer with a bit in hand in 8-runner handicap at Thirsk (5f, good) 55 days ago. Remains of interest. The blinkers came back for his last four starts and he's won them all; off 55 days. |

7th (1) (9/2 +68%) Cavalier Approach |
9/2(+68%) | (1) Cavalier Approach 9/2, Latest win at Pontefract in July. Below form seventh of 16 in handicap at Beverley (5f, good, 12/1) 16 days ago. Change of headgear. Type to bounce back. Blinkered on last five starts, winning on second occasion; switches to a first-time visor. |

8th (7) (7/1 +0%) Dusk Dame |
7/1(+0%) | (7) Dusk Dame 7/1, Latest win at Ffos Las in August. 4/1, fourth of 7 in handicap at Chelmsford City (5f) 19 days ago. Further rain would be a plus. Made all twice on softer than good; not at all discredited under a penalty on latest start. |

9th (8) (125/1 -681%) Naughty Niall |
125/1(-681%) | (8) Naughty Niall 125/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 25/1, seventh of 8 on handicap debut at Chepstow (6.1f, good) 15 days ago, slowly away. Something to find on form. Could have come on since latest run and he's unexposed, making his first appearance at 5f. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Two runnings of this have seen both winners racing from the three stall and that will be good news for the supporters of YAZAMAN, who is looking for his fifth win in a row after a comfortable success at Thirsk when last seen in July. He has been put up another 6lb for that victory but he looks worth following again, despite the rise in class. Cavalier Approach drops a grade in a first-time visor and he won't mind any cut in the ground, while Yarmouth winner Fletcher's Flight is another to take seriously.
YAZAMAN showed no sign of his purple patch ending anytime soon when completing 4-timer at Thirsk so remains one to keep on the right side of. Fletcher's Flight quickly resumed winning ways at Yarmouth on his first go at 5f and is next best ahead of Sound Reason.
Fletcher's Flight looks clearly the chief danger to YAZAMAN who can make it five wins in a row.

11th (5) (9/1 -13%) Rhythmic Acclaim |
9/1(-13%) | (5) Rhythmic Acclaim 9/1, 3 wins from 6 runs this year. 6/1, below form fifth of 10 in handicap at Newmarket (6f, good) 39 days ago, never nearer. Not at best last time but won three times in spring and might still have more to offer. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (8) (8/1 -60%) Royal Musketeer |
8/1(-60%) | (8) Royal Musketeer 8/1, 4/1, creditable second of 10 in handicap at Newmarket (6f, good) 25 days ago. Should go well again. Placed on three of last four starts but would appeal more on good or faster ground. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Rambuso Creek warrants plenty of respect as the only course winner in this field, but both of his victories have been over shorter and his last run was an uninspiring last of 15. Papabella wasn't beaten far when third at Goodwood last month and she can go well off bottom-weight, so may prove the biggest danger to GUNDOGAN. A four-length novice win last time out was thoroughly deserved after some solid placed efforts, and a mark of 72 seems more than fair for his return to handicap company.
THE RIDLER had excuses at Newcastle last time and is worth another chance having only just failed at Doncaster the time before. Royal Musketeer has been knocking on the door of late and is next best ahead of Papabella.
This is much more competitive than the Carlisle novice GUNDOGAN won by 4l three weeks ago but he has scope to build on that success.
Ths is the racecard key.
