1st (3) (4/6 +51%) Brioni |
4/6(+51%) | (3) Brioni 4/6, Promising individual, stepping up on debut when close second over C&D in November. Very much the standard setter here and likely capable of even better. Hard to beat. Sets clear standard on his close call over C&D in November and he's open to more progress. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (4/1 +60%) Not Me |
4/1(+60%) | (8) Not Me 4/1, Twice-raced colt. Fair form when fourth on Newbury debut and possibly unsuited by softer ground when failing to build on that at Nottingham. Retains potential back from 6 months off. Down the field in his two runs last season and it was a backward step last time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (40/1 -186%) Extrication |
40/1(-186%) | (1) Extrication 40/1, 10/1, fair form when sixth of 12 in novice at this course (7f) on debut for Roger Varian last summer. Off 10 months ahead of return for new trainer. The betting should guide. Some promise in sole run for Roger Varian and needs watching in market on stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (11) (33/1 -65%) Salamanca City |
33/1(-65%) | (11) Salamanca City 33/1, Some promise when fourth on 7f Kempton debut in September but only seventh at Southwell 4 weeks later. Disappointing in second run in the autumn and needs plenty of improvement on her return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (125/1 -89%) Spanish Vega |
125/1(-89%) | (9) Spanish Vega 125/1, Twice-raced gelding. Sixth of 11 in maiden at Southwell (1m, 12/1) 13 days ago. Likely more one for handicaps after this. Well held in two AW runs (1m) since December and remains best watched for now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (13/2 +28%) Great Chieftain |
13/2(+28%) | (5) Great Chieftain 13/2, Fair form. 11/2, third of 8 in novice at Wolverhampton (7f) 25 days ago. Promise at single-figure odds in both his runs and he's in the mix upped in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (10/1 +60%) Lone Piper |
10/1(+60%) | (7) Lone Piper 10/1, Kingman gelding. Half-brother to 11.6f winner Three Priests and winner up to 1m Five Towns. Dam, US 1m-11f (Grade 3) winner, half-sister to useful 12.5f winner Iltemas. The betting should help guide to expectations. Has good pedigree and yard is 2-8 in maidens this year; needs checking in market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (10) (22/1 +12%) Toronto Raptor |
22/1(+12%) | (10) Toronto Raptor 22/1, Modest form when seventh in 2 outings (turf/AW) last autumn. Plenty of improvement will be needed. Some ability in two runs in the autumn and he's one to keep an eye on back from a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (4) (66/1 -230%) Card Shark |
66/1(-230%) | (4) Card Shark 66/1, 7/2, seventh of 14 in maiden (7/2) at Dundalk (1m) on debut 82 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Johnny Murtagh. Down the field in sole run in Ireland and he refused to enter the stalls here in February. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (2) (33/1 -136%) Hill Spirit |
33/1(-136%) | (2) Hill Spirit 33/1, Fair form in bumpers/over hurdles this winter. Each-way claims switching to the Flat. Hurdle winner but he flopped in last two runs in that sphere and now switches to Flat. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
BRIONI shaped well on his debut when third at Sandown and stepped forward from that display to finish runner-up over C&D. Alan King's colt arguably sets the standard on that form and appeals as the type to have progressed over the winter. Jayyash doesn't look anywhere near the finished article based on his two runs to date, but the extra furlong is likely to bring him into the reckoning. Great Chieftain is entitled to improve from his recent third at Wolverhampton, when making his first appearance since November.
BRIONI looks a useful prospect and should take plenty of stopping on his return to action. Jayyash was beaten at short odds on his Southwell reappearance but that betting strength suggests he's well regarded by the Gosden stable and he's second choice ahead of James Ferguson's Not Me.
Top of the list is BRIONI, who showed plenty of promise in the autumn and sets a clear standard on his close call over C&D last time.

150/1(-88%) | (8) Scottish Breeze 150/1, Twice-raced gelding. 125/1, seventh of 11 in minor event at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 23 days ago. Down the field in both runs this year and will be more interesting in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (33/1 -175%) Anglepoise |
33/1(-175%) | (11) Anglepoise 33/1, Zoustar filly. Half-sister to several winners, including smart 11f-12.3f winner Sextant and useful winner up to 1¼m Maths Prize. Dam 11.6f winner. |||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (28/1 -180%) Incan Empire |
28/1(-180%) | (4) Incan Empire 28/1, €240,000 2-y-o, Frankel colt. Half-brother to French 1½m winner Imperious Man. Expensive Breeze-Up acquisition who has taken a while to get to the track but should be considered if the market speaks in his favour. 240,000euros 2yo; looks the part on paper and he needs watching in market. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (7) (15/2 -173%) Saji |
15/2(-173%) | (7) Saji 15/2, Invincible Spirit colt. Half-brother to 2-y-o 5f winner Easy. Dam, 7f winner, half-sister to smart winner up to 6.5f Best Regards. Well-bred colt with a top yard, so warrants plenty of respect. Well-bred newcomer from top yard and he needs a close look in market. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
SCREAMING EAGLE left behind his debut performance when almost getting off the mark here over 7f in October and Andrew Balding's colt, whose dam is a half-sister to a Gimcrack hero and a dual Group 3 winner, should have no issue with the return to a mile. Saji warrants the utmost respect on his racecourse bow for top connections, while Mighty Nebula contested the Wood Ditton on his introduction at Newmarket last April and is of interest after being gelded.
This has the makings of an above-average maiden, with several well-bred sorts from top yards, but SAJI might be the newcomer to side with given that he's bred to have more pace than some. Screaming Eagle is an obvious player with the experience edge and Anglepoise is another one with an eye-catching pedigree.
The vote goes to SCREAMING EAGLE who went very close here in October and is open to more progress back up in trip on his return.

1st (4) (7/1 -133%) Sahara Snow |
7/1(-133%) | (4) Sahara Snow 7/1, Sea The Stars filly. Half-sister to several winners, including very smart winner up to 9f Wuheida and useful 2-y-o 7f winner A'shaari. Makes plenty of appeal on paper, so she's one to note on her first outing. Has a striking pedigree and yard won this last year; stablemate of Winter Snowfall. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (5) (11/8 -10%) Winter Snowfall |
11/8(-10%) | (5) Winter Snowfall 11/8, Galileo filly. Half-sister to useful winner up to 9f Dancing Goddess. Dam, 7f/1m (UAE 1000 Guineas) winner, half-sister to dual Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow. Highly respected on debut with William Buick on board. One of two newcomers for yard and she's an interesting contender with William Buick booked. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/8 +31%) Juneberry |
11/8(+31%) | (2) Juneberry 11/8, Shaped encouragingly when sixth of 12 in minor event at Lingfield (8f, AW, 10/3) on debut in October, staying on without being given a hard time. Major player with that first run behind her upped in trip. Made an encouraging start at Lingfield and she's open to progress up in trip on her return. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (8/1 +33%) Lady Bancroft |
8/1(+33%) | (3) Lady Bancroft 8/1, Half-sister to several winners and offered something to work on amidst greenness when fourth of 7 in maiden (10/1) at this course (8f) on debut 49 days ago. Open to improvement as she goes up in distance. Modest form on her 1m debut here in February and has a lot to find on that effort. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (125/1 -525%) Principessa |
125/1(-525%) | (1) Principessa 125/1, In need of the experience when last of 8 in maiden (15/2) at Newcastle (8f) on her sole start back in 2022. Has 18-month absence to overcome as she makes first run for yard after leaving Simon & Ed Crisford. Last of eight at Newcastle in October 2022 and not been seen since; opposable on comeback. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Charlie Appleby saddles two very interesting newcomers in WINTER SNOWFALL, a daughter of Galileo who is related to top Godolphin performers including Thunder Snow, and Sahara Snow, a half-sister to Group/Grade 1 winner Wuheida. Preference is for the former, with her being the choice of William Buick. Of those with experience, Juneberry is likely to benefit from a step up in trip following her sixth over a mile at Lingfield back in October.
Godolphin look to hold a strong hand, with preference for JUNEBERRY who showed promise on her first start at Lingfield and can progress from that experience as she goes up in trip. She is taken to get the better of the pair of Charlie Appleby-trained newcomers, with Winter Snowfall next on the list ahead of Sahara Snow.
Charlie Appleby has two striking newcomers in the line-up and the vote goes to his Galileo filly WINTER SNOWFALL.

66/1(-100%) | (14) Maryanne 66/1, Oasis Dream filly. Half-sister to several winners, including useful winner up to 1m Thrave and 6f-1m winner Honore Daumier. Yard not really known for first-time-out scorers but she makes some paper appeal. Worth a precautionary betting check. Well-bred filly but this looks a tough enough starting point and she's drawn out wide. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (12) (66/1 +56%) Tribal Chief |
66/1(+56%) | (12) Tribal Chief 66/1, Twice-raced colt. 50/1, fifth of 13 in C&D novice 7 days ago. Hooded first time. Looks one for handicaps after this. Some ability over C&D last week but handicaps will be more suitable after this. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
As the only two currently with an official handicap mark, Mashadi and Celtic Warrior help set a reasonable standard and each commands respect now they have both had a recent spin. With cheekpieces added, the former may be the pick of the pair at this stage. However, ROGUE ENCORE ran promisingly in two starts over 1m for his former yard and can make a flying start for the Peter Chapple-Hyam stable if dropping a furlong prompts a more sustained effort this time.
CELTIC WARRIOR was much improved when second in a Southwell handicap on reappearance and a repeat of that form could be good enough back in a maiden. Like the selection, Mashadi arrives on the back of a good recent effort in handicap company and is the chief threat on form. Rogue Encore has shown promise on both starts and should also figure, while General Assembly would also enter the reckoning if the betting vibes are strong having switched to George Boughey.
This is a tight call between Mashadi and CELTIC WARRIOR but the vote goes to Andrew Balding's gelding.

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (10/3 +5%) Hickory |
10/3(+5%) | (3) Hickory 10/3, C&D winner. Twelfth of 17 in handicap at Ascot (7f, good to firm, 13/2). Off 179 days. Has to be taken seriously. Well handicapped on his best form and is 2-3 over C&D; interesting on his return. |

22/1(-100%) | (1) Toimy Son 22/1, Ninth of 11 in handicap at Chelmsford City (7f, 14/1). Off 8 months. Likely to need the run and hard to make a case for. Well treated on old form but he was out of sorts for new yard last season; plenty to prove. |

|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (20/1 -100%) Kiwano |
20/1(-100%) | (2) Kiwano 20/1, C&D winner. Two wins from 5 runs last year. Didn't need to be at best when winning 10-runner handicap at Sakhir (6f, good to firm) 47 days ago. BHA has taken a dim view of that, so needs to be back to best if he's to land this. Triple AW winner who won in Bahrain when last seen in February; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (9) (11/1 +0%) King Cabo |
11/1(+0%) | (9) King Cabo 11/1, C&D winner. Latest win here in September. 5/1, last of 9 in handicap at Lingfield (6f, AW) 27 days ago. Others more persuasive. C&D winner but well held last twice and has something to prove back up in grade. |

8th (5) (17/2 -21%) Follow Your Heart |

9th (7) (66/1 -1000%) Hodler |
66/1(-1000%) | (7) Hodler 66/1, Respectable third of 17 in handicap at Newmarket (7f, heavy, 4/1). Off 151 days. Claims if he's tuned up after a break. Four-time turf winner but he still has a bit to prove on AW and others are preferred. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
Already a dual C&D winner, and one who has won when fresh before, HICKORY is still open to improvement and rates an appealing option at this level, despite remaining on a career-high mark. James Fanshawe's six-year-old faced much stiffer tests last season and may well find this is an ideal starting point for his new campaign. Hodler and Zero Carbon are consistent and capable of making an impact, while Kiwano is another to note back here after a spell racing in Bahrain.
HICKORY had some solid form in competitive handicaps last season and he's 2 from 3 at the track, so he's worth a chance to make a winning return at the possible expense of Zero Carbon, who represents a stable that can do no wrong at present. Revolutionise has a fitness edge over that pair and should be respected.
Preference is for James Fanshawe's HICKORY, who is well treated on his best form last season and has a record of 2-3 at this track.

7/2(-27%) | (6) White Mist 7/2, Won at Wolverhampton in January and over C&D in February. Good close second of 10 in handicap (6/1) at Wolverhampton (6f) 30 days ago. Should go well again. Record of 12112 since wearing visor and she's respected back at the scene of her last win. |

2/1(+0%) | (1) Bella Kopella 2/1, Three wins last year and took her form up another notch when striking on 6f Newcastle reappearance 19 days ago. A comfortable winner over this trip at Newcastle, there is good reason to expect BELLA KOPELLA will cope with switching to Polytrack and she has a strong chance of following up in this company. Nigel Tinkler's filly does have a 7lb higher mark to deal with, which creates some hope for supporters of seasonal debutant Alpine Girl, who is just 1lb above her last winning figure. Recent Southwell scorer Miss Moonshine also commands respect, despite stepping up in class.
BELLA KOPELLA improved again when a smooth winner on her reappearance and could still be well treated even after a 7 lb rise. White Mist was only narrowly denied the hat-trick at Wolverhampton last month and is feared most ahead of the reliable Miss Moonshine.
White Mist and Miss Moonshine are strongly respected but the vote goes to Nigel Tinkler's progressive 4yo BELLA KOPELLA.

11/10(+63%) | (8) Dark Dreamer 11/10, Thrice-raced maiden. Fifth of 8 in maiden (50/1) at Haydock (6f, soft). Off 6 months. Makes handicap debut. Looks a likely improver and is well worth monitoring in the betting. Potential improver now handicapping at a modest level. |

2nd (7) (4/1 +11%) Want Want |
4/1(+11%) | (7) Want Want 4/1, Thrice-raced maiden. Third of 6 in maiden at Ripon (6f, good to firm, 4/1). Off 7 months. Makes handicap debut. More to come and warrants close market inspection. Promise on 2yo debut; less good twice after but makes his handicap debut at a low level. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (1) (28/1 -75%) Bated Breeze |
28/1(-75%) | (1) Bated Breeze 28/1, Lightly-raced maiden. First run since leaving Eve Johnson Houghton when last of 9 in maiden (80/1) at Lingfield (6f, good to firm). Off 7 months. Makes handicap debut. Difficult ask. Likely improver in low-grade handicaps this year; betting should be instructive. |

4th (9) (8/1 -14%) Zachary |
8/1(-14%) | (9) Zachary 8/1, Last of 8 in handicap (5/2) at Newcastle (5f) 43 days ago. Others make more appeal. Two wins last year but absent since a poor run at Newcastle six weeks ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (10) (28/1 -75%) Irrelevant |
28/1(-75%) | (10) Irrelevant 28/1, Course winner. Visored for 1st time, last of 6 in handicap (33/1) at Chelmsford City (6f) 20 days ago. Others make more appeal. Both wins have come here; on a good mark but yet to build on his promising stable debut. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (2) (12/1 +0%) Invincible Navy |
12/1(+0%) | (2) Invincible Navy 12/1, Lightly-raced maiden. First run since leaving Marco Botti when ninth of 12 in minor event at this course (8f, 80/1) 21 days ago. Back down in trip. Plenty to find on form. Should be sharper with his reappearance/stable debut behind him; improvement needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (3) (8/1 -33%) Himawari |
8/1(-33%) | (3) Himawari 8/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Fourth of 6 in handicap at this C&D (7/2) 56 days ago, shaping much better than the bare result. Has a bigger performance in her and merits respect. Had excuse over C&D on h'cap debut in Feb; still early days but she does need more to win. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (4) (9/1 -29%) Whiteley Way |
9/1(-29%) | (4) Whiteley Way 9/1, 22/1, creditable third of 6 in handicap at Chelmsford City (6f) 20 days ago. In good order and should be on the premises again. Placed in two stronger AW handicaps this year; not discounted down into Class 6. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (5) (66/1 -200%) Reflexion Faite |
66/1(-200%) | (5) Reflexion Faite 66/1, 80/1, first run since leaving Kevin Philippart De Foy when seventh of 8 in handicap at Newcastle (7.1f) 19 days ago. Makes polytrack debut. Tongue strap on 1st time. Low-key stable debut 19 days ago; drop in trip/addition of tongue tie not enough to tempt. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
HIMAWARI met with plenty of trouble in running when fourth on her handicap debut over C&D last time and, off 1lb lower, she could be hard to beat with a clear run in this company. Whiteley Way has shown promise on both starts this year and she may prove to be the main threat to the selection, ahead of Zachary and Dark Dreamer.
DARK DREAMER is bred to be better than a mark of 62 and he's been gelded since last seen, so he's worth chancing for connections who had a well-backed winner with a similar profile recently. Himawari is a big danger and Want Want is another one open to improvement.
Whiteley Way looks booked for another big run but HEARITFORTHEBOYS can capitalise on the return to Class 6 company.

1st (5) (Evens +64%) Cock And Bull |
Evens(+64%) | (5) Cock And Bull Evens, Didn't show much at 2 yrs, but after 6 months off (gelded) he left that form behind when second of 9 in handicap at Wolverhampton (12.2f, 7/2) 4 days ago, clear of rest. Respected with further progress to come. Backed for handicap debut and was only overhauled late on after a positive ride. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/4 -105%) Cracker Star |
6/4(-105%) | (1) Cracker Star 6/4, After 5 months off (gelded), showed improved form on his handicap debut when second of 7 at Lingfield (10f, AW, 4/6) 12 days ago, finishing well having run green. Could be ready to open his account upped in trip. All the rage in the betting on handicap debut and ran well behind one who got first run. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (15/2 -88%) Sun Dancer Girl |
15/2(-88%) | (3) Sun Dancer Girl 15/2, Showed much more than previously sent handicapping when second of 6 at this C&D (5/1) 45 days ago, finding only a fellow improver too strong. Can give another good account. Improved on handicap debut here when finishing well clear of the third. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (50/1 -257%) Waldora |
50/1(-257%) | (4) Waldora 50/1, Made little impact in 3 starts last year, eighth of 12 in maiden at Lingfield (10f, AW, 150/1) in November. Needs to take a step forward, but she appeals as the type to do better now handicapping. Nicely bred and could be seen in a different light this season in handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (12/1 +25%) Maxim De Winter |
12/1(+25%) | (2) Maxim De Winter 12/1, Down the field in a trio of outings last year, in first-time cheekpieces when sixth of 8 in minor event at Bath (8f, soft, 150/1) in October (gelded since). Others make more appeal upped in trip for his handicap bow. Failed to show much last season (7f/1m), hence he now goes handicapping off a low mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
COCK AND BULL took a big step forward when a neck second over this distance on his handicap debut at Wolverhampton on Saturday and he is hard to oppose off the same mark here, despite the quick turnaround. Cracker Star has a similar profile to the selection and should not be underestimated, while Sun Dancer Girl is the pick of the remainder.
CRACKER STAR still looked in need of the experience when runner-up at Lingfield on his handicap debut 12 days ago, so he can build on that to go one better with his yard continuing in fine form. Cock And Bull is also open to further improvement and is feared most, while Sun Dancer Girl produced her best effort at this C&D on her latest outing.
Topweight CRACKER STAR (nap) was all the rage at Lingfield and was a bit unlucky as the winner got first run on him.
Ths is the racecard key.
