1st (1) (5/2 -33%) How Impressive |
5/2(-33%) | (1) How Impressive 5/2, With the headgear left off, career best when winning 10-runner handicap at Lingfield (7f, 2/1) 9 days ago, drawing clear final 1f. Leading contender under a penalty. 5lb penalty to carry after career best win; similar effort would make him tough to beat.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (4/1 +0%) Plastic Paddy |
4/1(+0%) | (2) Plastic Paddy 4/1, Step back in right direction when third of 7 in handicap (10/1) at this C&D 11 days ago, despite being unsuited by the steady pace. Cheekpieces back on and he merits consideration from his current mark. Took a step back in the right direction over C&D latest; not ruled out.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (18/1 -80%) Triggered |
18/1(-80%) | (4) Triggered 18/1, Four wins from 15 runs last year. Not discredited when fifth of 6 in handicap at Lingfield (7f, 14/1) 19 days ago, left poorly placed. Can give his running again. Has run well here but needs to step up on his latest Lingfield performance to figure.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (15/2 -88%) Cue's Beau |
15/2(-88%) | (3) Cue's Beau 15/2, After 8 months off, probably needed the run when third of 4 in handicap (5/1) at this C&D 23 days ago. Could still have more to offer as she makes only her second start in a handicap. Third over C&D last month; may be capable of raising the bar this time; player.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (9) (4/1 +38%) Hul Ah Bah Loo |
4/1(+38%) | (9) Hul Ah Bah Loo 4/1, Successful at Lingfield in November. Soon back to form at this course (8f) on his last 2 starts, third of 10 in handicap (9/2) 11 days ago. Can make his presence felt having dropped back down to his last winning mark. Acts here but this return to 7f leaves him with more questions to answer.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (13/2 +28%) Airshow |
13/2(+28%) | (5) Airshow 13/2, Course winner. Eleven runs since last win in 2023. Back down in grade, ran well when third of 10 in handicap (11/1) at Southwell (7.1f) 9 days ago. Task is now to back up his latest effort. On a handy mark, as he showed last time at Southwell (7f, Tapeta); should be competitive.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (10) (18/1 +45%) Devizes |
18/1(+45%) | (10) Devizes 18/1, Won twice at this course last year, over 16f on the second occasion. However, has been below form since returning from a break this winter, sixth of 10 in handicap here (8f, 50/1) 11 days ago. Well below his best in recent starts and a further drop back to 7f does not look ideal.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (11) (12/1 +52%) Further Measure |
12/1(+52%) | (11) Further Measure 12/1, Not disgraced when fourth of 10 in handicap (16/1) at this course (8f) 11 days ago. Mark continues to fall but more needed to take advantage. Struggling on his last four starts and not sure he needs a step back up in grade.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (8) (25/1 +50%) Kessaar Power |
25/1(+50%) | (8) Kessaar Power 25/1, Thirteen runs since last win in 2023. Below form last 3 starts, again failing to beat a rival in 6-runner handicap at Chelmsford City (7f, 66/1) 13 days ago. Others more persuasive. Inconsistent since last win and his last two starts leave him with plenty to prove.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (7) (50/1 -52%) Many A Year |
50/1(-52%) | (7) Many A Year 50/1, Form has gone the wrong way since going handicapping on the all-weather, tenth of 11 at Wolverhampton (6.1f, 40/1) 88 days ago. Has something to prove at present. Well beaten on both starts since joining this trainer; dropped 3lb.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
HOW IMPRESSIVE romped home over this trip at Lingfield last week and is an appealing option with Brandon Wilkie's 3lb claim offsetting some of the 5lb penalty imposed for that comfortable success. Local Bay was just over three lengths away in fourth that day and looks unlikely to reverse the form, even on the revised terms. Plastic Paddy and the unexposed Cue's Beau may pose the selection the most problems, with the former feared most now 2lb below his last winning mark.
HOW IMPRESSIVE proved better than ever when returning to winning ways at Lingfield 9 days ago and a penalty might not be enough to prevent him from following up. Hul Ah Bah Loo has made the frame at this course on his last 2 starts and could be thereabouts once more, while Plastic Paddy is also considered.
The manner of the win by HOW IMPRESSIVE at Lingfeld last time suggests he can defy a 5lb penalty.

7/4(+56%) | (3) Con Te Partiro 7/4, Thrice-raced maiden. 250/1, eighth of 12 in minor event at this course (6f), slowly away. Off 91 days/gelded. Cheekpieces on for 1st time. Should progress now handicapping over longer trips. Well beaten in three juvenile starts and of interest only if the market speaks for him.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (6/1 -167%) Eccentric |
6/1(-167%) | (1) Eccentric 6/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Improved when second of 6 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW, 4/1) 6 days ago. Has good chance if able to back that up. Beaten a neck at Lingfield when trying to make all latest; contender if as effective here.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (13/2 +19%) Danehill Star |
13/2(+19%) | (4) Danehill Star 13/2, Fourth of 6 in handicap (4/1) at Lingfield (10f, AW) 30 days ago. Needs a couple of these to falter. Couldn't make any serious impression at Lingfield (1m2f, Polytrack) latest; more needed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (9/2 +68%) Eagle Landed |
9/2(+68%) | (6) Eagle Landed 9/2, 16/1, possibly needed run when seventh of 9 in handicap at this course (7f) 28 days ago. Step back up to 1m should suit but others make greater appeal for win purposes. Second at Newcastle (1m) last November but well below that level since; much more needed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (5/1 -82%) Aspire To Glory |
5/1(-82%) | (2) Aspire To Glory 5/1, Course winner. Latest win at Lingfield in January. 5/2, respectable third of 9 in handicap at this course (7f) 11 days ago, very slowly away. Merits consideration. C&D winner; didn't help his cause when slowly away over C&D latest; may be more to come.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (16/1 -14%) Tres Chic |
16/1(-14%) | (5) Tres Chic 16/1, Winner at Leicester in October. 15/2 and blinkered for 1st time, typically pulled hard when fourth of 6 in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW) 6 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Others more persuasive. Step in the right direction latest but she'll need significant improvement on that to win.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (18/1 -125%) Tejesueno |
18/1(-125%) | (7) Tejesueno 18/1, Respectable fourth of 9 in handicap (22/1) at this course (7f) 11 days ago. Can give a good account without posing serious threat to principals. Unable to go the pace when they quickened latest; longer trip positive; needs to improve.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (8) (125/1 -400%) Majolica |
125/1(-400%) | (8) Majolica 125/1, Visored for 1st time, fifth of 9 in nursery at Chelmsford City (7f, 33/1) 55 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Andrew Balding. Hard to fancy. No worthwhile form when with Andrew Balding; changed hands; watching brief advised.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (10) (16/1 -33%) Through The Echoes |
16/1(-33%) | (10) Through The Echoes 16/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 22/1 and visored for 1st time, 5¼ lengths ninth of 10 to Aspire To Glory in handicap at Lingfield (7f, AW) 31 days ago. Clearly a stable lesser light. Has shown little in four starts, including her handicap debut latest; much more needed.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (11) (150/1 -650%) Mamies Dream |
150/1(-650%) | (11) Mamies Dream 150/1, Lightly-raced maiden. Last of 11 in minor event at this C&D (300/1). Off 140 days. Makes handicap debut. Only worth noting in face of any market support. Big prices and well beaten in all four starts.. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (9) (100/1 -300%) Onelastcall |
100/1(-300%) | (9) Onelastcall 100/1, Thrice-raced maiden. 400/1, seventh of 8 in maiden at Chelmsford City (7f) 27 days ago. Impossible to make a case on what she's shown on the track but may do better now handicapping. Mayson filly who has been beaten a long way in all three starts; handicap debut.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
This is well within the reach of the in-form ASPIRE TO GLORY, whose hat-trick bid wasn't helped by a slow start over 7f here. However, the Alice Haynes-trained gelding has improved since being fitted with a hood and teaming up with Tommie Jakes, and with the longer trip a possible counter for any early tardiness, he is worth another chance in a moderate race such as this. Eccentric and Tejesueno are a couple of others to consider.
ECCENTRIC left his previous form well behind when a close second at Lingfield last time and he narrowly gets the nod over Aspire To Glory, who shaped as if still in top form despite failing to land the hat-trick over 7f here last week. Con Te Partiro showed little in a trio of runs over sprint trips but is bred to be more at home over this sort of distance and is an intriguing handicap newcomer with Hollie Doyle aboard.
A weak contest and provided he doesn't blow his chance at the start, ASPIRE TO GLORY looks capable of getting back to winning ways.

1st (5) (2/5 -21%) Native Approach |
2/5(-21%) | (5) Native Approach 2/5, Hooded and shaped with lots of encouragement when second of 9 in maiden at this course (7f, 5/6) on debut 21 days ago, caught further back than ideal. Open to plenty of improvement and very much the one to beat. Close second after starting slowly on debut here last month; extra furlong should suit. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (7/2 -27%) Calumet |
7/2(-27%) | (3) Calumet 7/2, Shaped well amidst greenness when second of 8 in maiden at this C&D (9/2) on debut 18 days ago, carrying head shade awkwardly. Should progress. Beaten a short head on his debut over C&D last month; contender. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (17/2 -13%) Jolly Jack Tar |
17/2(-13%) | (4) Jolly Jack Tar 17/2, Too Darn Hot gelding. Closely related to 1¼m winner First Snowfall and half-brother to 1m/9f winner Act Fast. Dam smart 1¼m-1½m winner. Much respected on debut for top connections. Out of a Ribblesdale winner; respected on debut for powerful yard, especially if backed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (33/1 -200%) Operate |
33/1(-200%) | (6) Operate 33/1, €36,000 yearling, 65,000 gns 2-y-o, Kodi Bear gelding. Dam, French 2-y-o 6f winner, half-sister to smart 1m winner (stayed 1¼m) Paris Winds out of Nell Gwyn Stakes winner Lil's Jessy. Warrants respect on debut. Worth a market check on debut for stable that has a fine record with newcomers. |

5th (2) (50/1 -127%) Calculate |
50/1(-127%) | (2) Calculate 50/1, Twice-raced colt. Fourth of 7 in minor event (25/1) at Southwell (8.1f) 15 days ago. Looks more one for handicaps after this. Similar level of form in both starts last month; looks one for handicaps. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (10/1 +44%) Worrals |
10/1(+44%) | (8) Worrals 10/1, Raven's Pass filly. Dam, maiden (stayed 1m), half-sister to smart 6f-7f winner Biggles. Respected stable often gets them ready first time; market useful.. |

7th (1) (150/1 -50%) Federated |
150/1(-50%) | (1) Federated 150/1, Twice-raced gelding. 50/1, fifth of 8 in maiden at this C&D 18 days ago, not knocked about. Won't be of interest until handicaps. Fifth in both starts; looks one for handicaps after this. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (7) (300/1 -200%) Potters Diamond |
300/1(-200%) | (7) Potters Diamond 300/1, Well held in a pair of novice events. 200-1 for both starts late last year and showed very little.. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
NATIVE APPROACH was slowly away on debut over 7f here last month, but impressed by running on well to finish a close second behind a colt who was a big market mover on the day. Sure to be wiser, the son of Too Darn Hot appeals strongly, with the step up to a mile likely to suit on pedigree. Jolly Jack Tar, by the same sire and representing the same owners as the selection, is a noteworthy debutant. Calumet and Calculate are others to bear in mind.
NATIVE APPROACH looked a shade unfortunate not to make a winning debut here 3 weeks ago having been caught further back than ideal and is the obvious choice to go one better with improvement on the cards. Jolly Jack Tar, also representing Godolphin, is a respected newcomer, with Calumet entitled to build on his recent C&D debut and in the mix.
The choice is NATIVE APPROACH, a close second on his debut here last month following a tardy start. This extra furlong should suit.

1st (5) (10/11 +17%) Musical Dancer |
10/11(+17%) | (5) Musical Dancer 10/11, Dubawi colt. Brother to very smart 1m/8.5f winner Laugh Aloud. Showed ability when fourth of 8 in a C&D maiden on debut 18 days ago, weakening final 1f and not knocked about. Sure to have derived plenty from that experience and well worth considering for powerful stable. Fourth on his debut over C&D last month; should have learnt from that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (6) (2/1 +20%) Rogue Encore |
2/1(+20%) | (6) Rogue Encore 2/1, 52,000 gns yearling, 145,000 gns 2-y-o, Kodiac colt. Dam 2-y-o 1m winner who stayed 12.5f. Another to monitor closely in the betting on debut with Oisin Murphy an eye-catching booking. Wears tongue strap. Stable can get them ready first time; tongue-tie on; needs a market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (7/2 +13%) King David |
7/2(+13%) | (3) King David 7/2, Exceed And Excel colt. 10/1, fourth of 10 in maiden at this course (7f) on debut 23 days ago, running green but encouragingly making late headway. Entitled to improve and step up to 1m rates a likely plus. Promising fourth on his debut here last month; extra furlong shouldn't be a problem. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (7) (10/1 -150%) Lady Bancroft |
10/1(-150%) | (7) Lady Bancroft 10/1, 110,000 gns yearling, No Nay Never filly. Half-sister to several winners, including 1m-1¼m winner Mask of Time and 1½m winner Milestone, both useful. Makes plenty of appeal on paper for very good stable and she's well worth a second look. Plenty to like on pedigree and stable has a good record with newcomers; market informative. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (250/1 -279%) Baby Belle |
250/1(-279%) | (1) Baby Belle 250/1, Once-raced mare. 66/1, eighth of 9 in maiden at this C&D on debut 11 days ago, lost all chance at start. Best watched. Beat just one home following a poor start on her belated debut over C&D 11 days ago. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (8) (250/1 -279%) Venus Slipper |
250/1(-279%) | (8) Venus Slipper 250/1, Once-raced filly. 40/1 and tongue strap on, ninth of 10 in minor event at Wolverhampton (7.2f) on debut 16 days ago. First run for yard after leaving Simon & Ed Crisford. Well beaten at Wolverhampton last month in her one start for the Crisfords. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (250/1 -279%) Lightning Bay |
250/1(-279%) | (4) Lightning Bay 250/1, Thrice-raced gelding. 200/1, again showed nothing when last of 9 in maiden at this course (7f) 21 days ago. Easy enough to look elsewhere. Has beaten a total of one rival in three starts; may show more when allocated a mark. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Rogue Encore, who changed hands for 145,000gns, is from a good family and has Oisin Murphy booked for his debut, so he needs to be monitored in the betting. However, MUSICAL DANCER has experience on his side after running very green to finish fourth over C&D and should have learned a great deal. Charlie Appleby's colt is likely to have plenty more to come and he looks the one to beat. Any market support for 110,000gns purchase Lady Bancroft should also be noted.
MUSICAL DANCER showed ability without being given an overly hard time when fourth on debut in a C&D maiden 18 days ago and, with that experience under his belt, Charlie Appleby's well-bred colt may well be the answer. There are several interesting newcomers in opposition though, Lady Bancroft and Rogue Encore both demanding close market attention. King David rates another likely improver with his debut run under his belt.
Preference is for KING DAVID who did well in the circumstances when fourth of ten on his debut here last month.

1st (7) (13/2 +13%) Smiling Sunflower |
13/2(+13%) | (7) Smiling Sunflower 13/2, Course winner. Eleven runs since last win in 2023. Fourth of 5 in handicap (5/1) at Chelmsford City (8f) 5 days ago, not ideally placed. Stepping back in the right direction. Below her best lately as when fourth of five at Chelmsford last Friday; much more needed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (3) (13/8 +28%) Inverlochy |
13/8(+28%) | (3) Inverlochy 13/8, Proving steadily progressive, gaining a second hard-fought success of the year in 8-runner handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 16 days ago, driven out. Forced into a better class of handicap for hat-trick bid but needs respecting all the same. Record since contesting AW handicaps reads 411211; another 3lb rise may well not stop her. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (4/1 +0%) Measured Moments |
4/1(+0%) | (6) Measured Moments 4/1, 3/1, 2½ lengths fourth of 5 to Crystal Casque in handicap at Lingfield (8f, AW) 53 days ago, not ideally placed. Expected to be bounce back. Sharper test seemed to find her out at Lingfield (1m) last time; similar scenario likely. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (7/2 +50%) Incrimination |
7/2(+50%) | (4) Incrimination 7/2, One win from 3 runs last year. Off 10 months, sixth of 7 in handicap (17/2) at Lingfield (6f, AW) 10 days ago, not ideally placed. Significantly up in trip and entitled to come on for recent run. Lightly raced 5yo; probably needed recent return; has shaped as though she will stay 1m. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (2) (11/2 +15%) Crystal Casque |
11/2(+15%) | (2) Crystal Casque 11/2, 3-time C&D winner who failed to come on for recent run when last of 4 in handicap at this course (7f) 23 days ago. 5-27 around here; has bounced back from a modest effort before; not dismissed. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (22/1 -83%) Lady Lavina |
22/1(-83%) | (5) Lady Lavina 22/1, Course winner. Creditable fifth of 10 in handicap (100/1) at Lingfield (7f, AW) 63 days ago, despite not clear run home turn. Bit better on her second start back from a lengthy absence, but still more needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
INVERLOCHY has proven to be a completely different proposition on the all-weather, winning four out of seven, with all of those victories coming in her last five attempts. The Crisfords' filly is stepping up the ranks at a rate of knots and is only 3lb higher than for her latest success at Wolverhampton. Crystal Casque may have finished last of four over 7f here but she wasn't beaten far and could get closer, with the drop in grade aiding her cause. Measured Moments wasn't far behind her just before Christmas and also enters the equation.
MEASURED MOMENTS wasn't ideally placed when behind Crystal Casque at Lingfield on her most recent outing in December and is fancied to bounce back from a break with a bang. Incrimination is entitled to come on for her recent run and can have a big say in proceedings if seeing out this longer trip, with hat-trick seeker Inverlochy also feared.
It's hard to oppose the progressive INVERLOCHY (nap) in her bid to make it five wins from her last six starts.

1st (3) (9/4 +18%) Fivethousandtoone |
9/4(+18%) | (3) Fivethousandtoone 9/4, 18/1 and visored for 1st time, good second of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 44 days ago, headway over 1f out and running on. Player once more with the visor again reached for. Runner-up at Lingfield and Newcastle the last twice; this looks a winnable race. |

2nd (4) (6/5 +56%) Batal Dubai |
6/5(+56%) | (4) Batal Dubai 6/5, Latest win at Chelmsford City in October. 15/2, respectable third of 13 in handicap at Newcastle (6f) 44 days ago. Possible he'll be sharper with that run under his belt and no surprise to see a good showing. Just behind Fivethousandtoone last time; 2lb better off and shouldn't be far away. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (4/1 -33%) Chipstead |
4/1(-33%) | (2) Chipstead 4/1, Returned to form when narrow winner of a C&D handicap in December and did best of those from off the pace when fifth of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (5f) 25 days ago. Fancied to give another good account. Won over C&D on penultimate start but that was in a steadily run race; doubts remain. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (40/1 -371%) The X O |
40/1(-371%) | (1) The X O 40/1, Dual AW winner who posted a useful effort when second in 6f Ascot Group 3 last May. Seen only twice since and first start for 8 months at Lingfield 10 days ago likely best overlooked (hung badly right home turn). This promises to reveal more. Runner-up in a Group 3 at Ascot last May but twice well beaten since; needs to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (5) (22/1 -159%) Home City |
22/1(-159%) | (5) Home City 22/1, Useful performer at his best for Saeed Bin Suroor but absent since finishing well-beaten last of 9 in handicap at Musselburgh (7.2f) back in June. Betting should prove a useful guide starting out for new connections. 1-14 for Saeed bin Suroor; makes stable debut after 256 days off; needs a market check. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (10/1 -67%) Blind Beggar |
10/1(-67%) | (6) Blind Beggar 10/1, Three wins from 11 runs last year, the latest at Chelmsford (5f) in November. Comes here in good form, creditable third of 12 in handicap back at that venue 24 days ago. Up in grade here but he could get his own way on the front end. Has run well over 6f in both starts this year but this trip does appear to stretch him. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 2 race.
FIVETHOUSANDTOONE (second) had Batal Dubai (third) just over a length behind over this trip in this grade when sporting a first-time visor at Newcastle last month and he was only put up 2lb for that performance. The son of Frankel possesses the best most recent form on offer and he looks the way to go. As for the latter, he is less exposed than his rival and could take a step forward to get closer, while The X O is an interesting contender stepping back into handicap company for the first time since last March.
BATAL DUBAI ran well on his first start for 11 weeks, whilst highlighting he may sharpen up for the run, when third at Newcastle on New Year's Day and in a race that is highly likely to become tactical, he could well be the answer. Fivethousandtoone is proving most consistent and he's a threat, along with Chipstead, who landed a similar contest on his penultimate start over C&D in December.
This may be a good chance for FIVETHOUSANDTOONE to improve his modest strike-rate after solid runner-up efforts in his last two starts.

13/8(+41%) | (6) Grigio 13/8, Low-mileage 4-y-o who posted a very good third of 12 in handicap at this course (11f) 14 days ago, nearest finish. Player off an unchanged mark. Stayed on to share third here latest; this longer trip looks positive; possible contender.. |

First run for yard after leaving Joseph O'Brien with work to do on his handicap debut. Initial mark is arguably a bit stiff but no surprise to see him fare better at this level.. |

The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
ESCARPMENT took a step in the right direction when third at Wolverhampton over 1m6f at the start of the month and the drop back in trip, along with the application of a first-time visor, may see the four-year-old shed his maiden tag. The Bay Warrior scored here on his penultimate outing and commands respect, while Grigio is capable of a decent showing following his recent third at this track.
GRIGIO arrives on the back of a very good recent third here and remains with few miles on the clock so looks the way to go in an open contest. Course winner The Bay Warrior is weighted to have a big say, while Renardeau is another who commands plenty of respect having not been seen to best effect over C&D last time.
The suggestion is ESCARPMENT, who showed more last time and could benefit from this drop back in trip and application of headgear.

1st (2) (4/5 +54%) Night At Sea |
4/5(+54%) | (2) Night At Sea 4/5, Creditable second of 12 in handicap (5/1) at Wolverhampton (14f) 11 days ago. Worth chancing to go one better in a thin race. Runner-up in her last two handicaps and she's a big player on this drop back in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (7/1 -8%) Mr Boson |
7/1(-8%) | (7) Mr Boson 7/1, 8/1, creditable sixth of 12 in handicap at this course (11f) 14 days ago. Tongue strap on 1st time. Edging down to a handy mark. Inconsistent seven-race maiden and others are more convincing; tongue-tie added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (13/2 -63%) Fox Flame |
13/2(-63%) | (3) Fox Flame 13/2, Three wins from 17 runs last year. Good fourth of 12 in handicap at Wolverhampton (14f, 16/1) 11 days ago. Back to a potentially lenient mark but she's not the most straightforward. Showed signs of a revival at Wolverhampton and has claims if she can build on that. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (8) (33/1 +50%) Logistical |
33/1(+50%) | (8) Logistical 33/1, Visor on for 1st time in this code, eighth of 12 in handicap (100/1) at this course (11f) 14 days ago. Cheekpieces back on. Something to find on form. 0-13 Flat/jumps and he's been well held in his two runs for new yard this winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (1) (11/1 -47%) Militry Decoration |
11/1(-47%) | (1) Militry Decoration 11/1, Seventh of 10 in handicap (33/1) at this course (16f) 21 days ago. Back down in trip/grade and should strip fitter for latest effort. Not dismissed. On a dangerous mark but he has something to prove and last win was at 1m6f. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (6) (6/1 +14%) Pablo Prince |
6/1(+14%) | (6) Pablo Prince 6/1, 6/1, eighth of 10 in handicap at Lingfield (13f, AW) 31 days ago, slowly away. Wasn't ideally placed last time and cheekpieces could have a positive effect, so he's worthy of respect. On last winning mark but he needs to rediscover his spark; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (4) (12/1 -200%) Red Royalist |
12/1(-200%) | (4) Red Royalist 12/1, 40/1, creditable fifth of 10 in handicap at Southwell (12.1f) 36 days ago, well positioned. Should give his running again. Fair fifth at Southwell last time when he may have done too much too soon; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (80/1 -900%) Makanao |
80/1(-900%) | (5) Makanao 80/1, Twelfth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Wincanton (19.8f, soft, 25/1) 83 days ago. Fair on the Flat, poor on last Flat run. Tough to assess at present. Disappointing over hurdles last twice but he needs watching in the market back on Flat. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
NIGHT AT SEA brings a consistent level of form to the table having filled the runner-up spot on her most recent starts at Lingfield and Wolverhampton. This appears to be an excellent opportunity for Andrew Balding's filly in a contest that lacks much depth on paper. Pablo Prince could bounce back from a below par effort at Lingfield in first-time cheekpieces, with Mr Boson one to note with a tongue-tie equipped.
NIGHT AT SEA arrives in good order and hasn't had much racing, so she's a solid choice. There are a few well treated rivals in opposition, notably Militry Decoration, who should come on for his reappearance. Pablo Prince is also worthy of consideration.
Top of the list is NIGHT AT SEA, who chased home an improver at Wolverhampton last time and is a big player back at this trip.

10/3(-21%) | (2) Storm Valley 10/3, Creditable second of 6 in handicap at Wolverhampton (9.5f, 11/4) 29 days ago, running on. Should be on the premises again. Placed at Wolverhampton in both runs for new yard and she's a key player back up in trip. |

2nd (6) (66/1 -560%) Sky Dancer |
66/1(-560%) | (6) Sky Dancer 66/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 66/1, last of 11 in nursery at Thirsk (8f, good to soft). Off 17 months. Significantly up in trip. 3rd (9) (7/2 +75%) Red Dwarf |
7/2(+75%) | (9) Red Dwarf 7/2, 17/2, fourth of 8 in minor event at this C&D 14 days ago. Potentially well treated on early efforts, so not one to write off. On a reduced mark and she made some late headway over C&D last time; could be dangerous. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (9/1 -64%) Opticality |
9/1(-64%) | (3) Opticality 9/1, Cheekpieces on for 1st time in this code, very good fifth of 13 in handicap hurdle at Taunton (16.5f, good to soft, 16/1) 37 days ago. Potentially well treated returning to the Flat. Inconsistent 6yo who is 1-22 and comes with risks attached back on the Flat. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (7/2 +36%) Perthshire |
7/2(+36%) | (7) Perthshire 7/2, 11/2, fifth of 8 in handicap at Chelmsford City (14f) 55 days ago. Back down in trip. Tongue strap on 1st time, cheekpieces on 1st time. Has also had breathing operation and stable is going well, so one to be interested in. Some fair efforts since returning from a long absence and he's not ruled out; had wind op. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (13) (10/1 +17%) Daany |
10/1(+17%) | (13) Daany 10/1, Eighteen runs since last win in 2021. 17/2, seventh of 11 in handicap hurdle at Ffos Las (15.8f, heavy) 13 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Hard to fancy based on Flat form. On a dangerous mark back on the Flat but he's not easy to predict and others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (11) (8/1 -60%) Gold Standard |
8/1(-60%) | (11) Gold Standard 8/1, Good third of 11 in handicap (20/1) at Lingfield (12f, AW) 19 days ago, slowly away. Did well from an unpromising position then and he's on a fair mark, so claims if they go a solid pace. Triple AW winner who finished well when a close third at Lingfield last time; respected. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (33/1 -175%) Portraitist |
33/1(-175%) | (5) Portraitist 33/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 16/1, fifth of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 16 days ago. Back up in trip. More required. Unexposed 4yo but she's been well held so far and needs improvement back up in trip. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (1) (10/1 +29%) How Hard Can It Be |
10/1(+29%) | (1) How Hard Can It Be 10/1, C&D winner. One win from 23 Flat runs. Seventeen runs since last win in 2022. 12/1, last of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 16 days ago, slowly away. Back up in trip. Something to prove at present. Out of sorts in both runs this winter and she's now 1-23; down the list. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
10th (4) (12/1 -20%) Bletchley Storm |
12/1(-20%) | (4) Bletchley Storm 12/1, 11/1, first run since leaving Michael Bell when fourth of 7 in handicap at Wolverhampton (8.6f) 26 days ago, slowly away. Back up in trip. Sort that her new stable could get more out of. 11-race maiden who has finished down the field in her last five runs; others preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
11th (10) (28/1 -75%) Lucky Protector |
28/1(-75%) | (10) Lucky Protector 28/1, Last of 7 in handicap at Chelmsford City (8f, 18/1) 13 days ago. Significantly up in trip. Something to find on form. Eight-race maiden who has struggled in four AW handicaps this winter; lots to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
12th (14) (66/1 -164%) Tiger Touch |
66/1(-164%) | (14) Tiger Touch 66/1, Fourteen runs since last win in 2020. Eighth of 11 in handicap (125/1) at Wolverhampton (9.5f) 16 days ago. Has a bit to prove. Sole win was in France in 2020 and his British record is unconvincing; opposable. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 6 race.
STORM VALLEY seems to have benefited from a change of scenery based on her recent placed efforts at Wolverhampton and the manner of those performances also suggest a step back up in trip is worth another try. Red Dwarf wasn't disgraced when fourth in a classified event over C&D and remains unexposed over this trip. Gold Standard and Perthshire can fight it out for minor honours.
PERTHSHIRE is handicapped to win and he's undergone a breathing operation since last seen, so he's worth taking a chance on with two new pieces of equipment also applied. Storm Valley and Gold Standard both arrive on the back of creditable efforts, so they're regarded as dangers.
Preference is for STORM VALLEY who has finished placed in both runs this winter and looks a big player back up in trip.
Ths is the racecard key.
