1st (6) (7/1 +30%) Ruler Of The River |
7/1(+30%) | (6) Ruler Of The River 7/1, Just a modest maiden on the Flat in Ireland for Jack Davison and bettered previous hurdling efforts when second in a juvenile at Doncaster in December. Out of her depth in listed company back there since. Placed in three juvenile hurdles; faced a stiff task last time and not ruled out here. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (11/10 -38%) Glorious Lion |
11/10(-38%) | (1) Glorious Lion 11/10, Fair maiden on the Flat for James Ferguson and while his hurdles debut was inauspicious (first-flight faller), he put in a clear round when fourth of 11 in a Ludlow juvenile next time. Improved again when third at Newbury and that puts him right in the mix with promise of more to come. Progressive sort who came in a very good third at Newbury 9 days ago; leading claims. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (5) (5/1 +9%) Thats Jet |
5/1(+9%) | (5) Thats Jet 5/1, Modest maiden on the Flat who has already surpassed that form over hurdles, running to a fair level when second of 13 at Killarney (17f, soft) in August (final start for Ross O'Sullivan). Not in the same form both starts for this yard but this is a drop in class. Very good second at Killarney but yet to match that effort in two starts for current yard. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (3) (4/1 +33%) Man Of Monaco |
4/1(+33%) | (3) Man Of Monaco 4/1, Fairly useful on Flat (stays 1¼m) for Charlie Johnston. Finished runner-up but ultimately didn't achieve a great deal on hurdles debut at Wetherby in January. Expected to build on that. Remote second at Wetherby; a fair 1m2f Flat scorer so needs considering with more to come. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (4) (150/1 -50%) National Question |
150/1(-50%) | (4) National Question 150/1, Brother to a useful hurdler but has shown just modest form at best on the Flat and well held on hurdles debut. Offered little on hurdling debut when ninth at Catterick 12 days ago; others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (2) (7/1 -75%) Ironopolis |
7/1(-75%) | (2) Ironopolis 7/1, Fair 1m4f Flat winner who has shown similar form in this sphere, cheekpieces on for first time in this code when third of 11 in juvenile at Sedgefield in October. Visor now on and he returns with yard among the winners. Cheekpieces on when good Sedgefield 3rd in October; visored and much respected after break. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
THATS JET had produced a solid level of form in maidens prior to coming up short in a Listed event at Musselburgh last month. Daragh Bourke's charge sets the standard down in class, and he is fancied to open his account over timber. Ironopolis reached the frame at Sedgefield when last seen in October and he ought to have a say on that evidence, while Glorious Lion appeals most of the remainder.
GLORIOUS LION is going the right way over hurdles and a repeat of his performance when third at Newbury last week may well suffice in this slightly easier contest. Ironopolis represents a yard in excellent form and he looks the main danger.
This looks a good opportunity for the progressive GLORIOUS LION to get off the mark on the back of his very good recent Newbury third

1st (1) (8/11 +61%) Nells Son |
8/11(+61%) | (1) Nells Son 8/11, Consistent sort made a successful return to chasing at Carlisle (2m) in October and produced another sound effort in defeat when second of 5 in handicap chase at this course (21.6f, soft) 23 days ago. The obvious threat to the selection. Good second in 2m5f handicap here 23 days ago; he can't be discounted back in trip now. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (6/4 -183%) Go Boy |
6/4(-183%) | (2) Go Boy 6/4, Fair winner over hurdles in Ireland and created a fine impression given a second try over fences when making a successful stable debut in a 7-runner handicap chase at Carlisle (15.9f, soft) 84 days ago. Type to go on improving as a chaser and his claims are crystal clear. Easily landed Carlisle handicap in December on yard debut; big player despite a 6lb rise. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (3) (12/1 -20%) Backbyjet |
12/1(-20%) | (3) Backbyjet 12/1, Overcame inexperience when when springing a 25/1 surprise in 19f Catterick novice hurdle on New Year's Day. Back on track at Southwell last time but he likely has plenty to find from out of the weights on chase debut. Won over hurdles at Catterick; 8lb out of h'cap but still no forlorn hope now chasing. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (66/1 +34%) Zihuatanejo |
66/1(+34%) | (4) Zihuatanejo 66/1, Was running creditably when taking a late fall when last seen at Newcastle just before Christmas but has masses to find from almost 3 st out of the weights here. Points scorer but this maiden hurdler/chaser faces a stiff task from 41lb out of the h'cap. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
With Backbyjet and Zihuatanejo having to compete from out of the handicap, this would appear to revolve around Nells Son and GO BOY. The former finished a creditable second in a class 2 over an extended 2m5f here last month and must be respected eased 1lb in the ratings, and in class. However, Sandy Thomson's eight-year-old cruised to victory at Carlisle on his stable debut and a subsequent 6lb rise might not be enough to halt further progress.
GO BOY looks a useful prospect based on his smooth chasing debut success at Carlisle and he should prove capable of defying a 6 lb higher mark to account for the consistent Nells Son. The other pair are both racing from out of the weights, chasing-debutant Backbyjet the pick for third.
Sandy Thomson's new recruit GO BOY created a very good impression when going in at Carlisle and he can make light of a 6lb weights rise

1st (3) (5/1 -122%) Duty Calls |
5/1(-122%) | (3) Duty Calls 5/1, C&D winner 12 months ago off 6 lb lower. Posed no threat from 5 lb out of the handicap here last week but should make more of an impact now. C&D scorer who wasn't disgraced when fourth here 8 days ago; player now off proper mark. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (7) (12/1 +25%) Claret Dabbler |
12/1(+25%) | (7) Claret Dabbler 12/1, Modest form at best over fences at Catterick in December 2021 but missed 23 months and achieved nothing on return there over Christmas. Fared better when fourth at Musselburgh 3 weeks ago but remains opposable from 6 lb out of the handicap. Fair fourth at Musselburgh 3 weeks ago; 6lb out of the handicap here but possibilities. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (8/1 +20%) Ritson |
8/1(+20%) | (4) Ritson 8/1, Fair hurdler who opened account in this sphere when running out a decisive winner at Newcastle (16.3f) 15 months ago. Soundly beaten all 4 starts since, though. A fair 2m chase winner last term but last of seven at Carlisle latest; has bit to prove. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (1) (11/4 +45%) Chapel Green |
11/4(+45%) | (1) Chapel Green 11/4, Fair winner over hurdles who made a successful chase debut at Hexham in October. Below that form since, however, and headgear now given a whirl. Winning start over fences at Hexham in October but he hasn't kicked on; cheekpieces added. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (6) (11/1 -69%) Going Mobile |
11/1(-69%) | (6) Going Mobile 11/1, Successful 3 times last season and bounced back to form when third of 10 in handicap chase at Market Rasen (17.2f, good to firm). Struggled from 5 lb out of the handicap at Sedgefield next time but worth another chance to confirm he's back in form. Not discredited when fourth at Sedgefield in October; can't be discounted after layoff. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (5) (9/4 -13%) Limerick Leader |
9/4(-13%) | (5) Limerick Leader 9/4, Fair hurdler but just a modest maiden handicap chaser. However, stopped the slide when runner-up in this headgear over C&D 3 weeks ago so needs considering off a similar mark. Yet to win over fences but headgear change when good Musselburgh 2nd; needs to back it up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (2) (7/1 +30%) Arctic Ambition |
7/1(+30%) | (2) Arctic Ambition 7/1, Lost his way for Gordon Elliott and well held both starts for this yard. Multiple winner in Ireland but below his best both starts for current yard; more needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Limerick Leader posted his best effort in a while when occupying the runner-up spot at Musselburgh three weeks ago and he must enter calculations from 1lb higher, but a chance can be taken on CHAPEL GREEN. Lucinda Russell's gelding was on target off this mark at Hexham back in October, and the addition of first-time cheekpieces could spark a return to that sort of form. Duty Calls can chase the pair home.
LIMERICK LEADER stopped the slide off a much-reduced mark when second at Musselburgh 3 weeks ago and he's potentially well treated if building on that. Duty Calls and Going Mobile are both racing off their proper marks this time so are expected to bounce back.
Sandy Forster's DUTY CALLS looks the way to go given he can boast a C&D win and race off a 5lb lower mark than when fourth here recently

1st (10) (11/2 +15%) Shoeshine Boy |
11/2(+15%) | (10) Shoeshine Boy 11/2, Tongue tied and got off the mark for the season in 13-runner handicap hurdle at Ayr (24.3f, heavy) 26 days ago. Firmly in the picture despite a 3 lb rise. Tongue tied when winner of Ayr h'cap 26 days ago; not taken lightly. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (2) (10/1 +29%) Dare To Shout |
10/1(+29%) | (2) Dare To Shout 10/1, Course winner. Tongue strap on for 1st time when creditable sixth of 14 in handicap hurdle at Musselburgh (23.8f, good to soft) 35 days ago. Ought to be in the shake-up. Course scorer; good sixth of 14 in 3m Musselburgh handicap 35 days ago; considered. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (6) (6/1 +14%) Ned Tanner |
6/1(+14%) | (6) Ned Tanner 6/1, Scored twice over fences here last season and arrives in decent nick, still close up when fell 2 out in 2m5f chase here 23 days ago. Possibilities returned to this sphere. Running a good race at this track when fell two out in 2m5f handicap chase; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (4) (80/1 -220%) Scipion |
80/1(-220%) | (4) Scipion 80/1, Won at Lingfield (23.5f) last February for Tom Clover but hasn't been in the same form since for his current yard, pulled up at Carlisle in December. Tongue tied and back hurdling with something to prove. Yet to hit top form in three outings for his current stable; others are preferred. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (8) (16/1 -33%) Guernesey |
16/1(-33%) | (8) Guernesey 16/1, Good first outing for this yard when a C&D second in November but he came in a below-par fourth of seven at Catterick last time. Sort to bounce back. Only fourth at Catterick last month and it's now 11 starts since his last victory. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (1) (25/1 -56%) Barbados Buck's |
25/1(-56%) | (1) Barbados Buck's 25/1, Quite a useful hurdler for Paul Nicholls and struck at the second time of asking for his new stable in small-field handicap at Carlisle (25f, heavy) in December. Only ninth at Sandown last time but sort to bounce back. Only ninth at Sandown last month; no surprise to see him bounce back here though. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (7) (22/1 -214%) Tiger Jet |
22/1(-214%) | (7) Tiger Jet 22/1, Won 3m Haydock handicap last April and back to that sort of form in recent starts, latest when fifth at Cheltenham (24f) in December. One to consider. Back to form when a solid Cheltenham fifth in December; possibilities after a break. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (5) (5/2 +17%) Cadell |
5/2(+17%) | (5) Cadell 5/2, Mahler gelding who went unbeaten in points and made a winning hurdling bow at Kelso in October. Good second in 3m Musselburgh novice 36 days ago so he's one to consider now going into handicaps. Won here in October; very good Musselburgh 2nd latest so enters calculations now h'capping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (3) (8/1 -100%) Imperial Merlin |
8/1(-100%) | (3) Imperial Merlin 8/1, Took well to hurdling last season, winning 3 times. Only second run over fences when fell second last (yet to be asked for effort) in 23f handicap here 23 days ago. Player reverted to hurdles off a 2 lb lower mark with Brian Hughes also back up. Running well in second when fell 2 out here latest; back hurdling on good mark; player. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (9) (10/3 +26%) Velasco |
10/3(+26%) | (9) Velasco 10/3, Arrives in great nick and on a hat-trick after landing handicaps at Sedgefield and Doncaster (3m) recently. Saddles a 7 lb penalty now but he's still not taken lightly in his current mood. On a hat-trick after wins at Sedgefield and Doncaster recently; very much one to consider. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 3 race.
NED TANNER was in the process of running a fine race when coming down two out in a warm handicap over fences here, and the decision to revert to hurdles may prove fruitful. Tiger Jet shaped encouragingly when fifth in a competitive Cheltenham handicap in December and he can make his presence felt provided he is fully tuned up after a break. The relatively lightly-raced Imperial Merlin also warrants respect on his return to timber.
A case can be made for lots of these but IMPERIAL MERLIN gets the vote given he had every chance when a late faller over fences here last time out and returns to this sphere on a handy-looking mark. Brian Hughes is also back in the saddle too. Cadell is feared most with the promise of better to come on his handicap debut, although in-form trio Velasco, Ned Tanner and Dare To Shout all command plenty of respect too.
This can go to IMPERIAL MERLIN (nap) who now reverts to this sphere on a handy-looking mark judged on his chasing exploits this term

1st (5) (4/7 -30%) Myretown |
4/7(-30%) | (5) Myretown 4/7, £135,000 buy after winning an Irish point in April 2022. Going the right way under Rules and had the race at his mercy when falling at the last in novice hurdle at Ayr last time. Should gain compensation. Promising start hurdling, looking likely winner when falling last at Ayr; can make amends. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (1) (14/1 +58%) Joie More |
14/1(+58%) | (1) Joie More 14/1, Made the frame in points and showed modest form on the first of his two hurdling outings. Needs a lot more if he's to feature in this. Maiden pointer who has shown only modest form in a pair of Ayr novice hurdles this winter. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (4) (6/1 +70%) Lucky Soldier |
6/1(+70%) | (4) Lucky Soldier 6/1, Promising second in a bumper on debut at Ayr in 2022 but jumping and temperament have been issues since his attentions were turned to hurdling. Others make more appeal. Fairly useful in bumpers but yet to match that in this sphere, fifth at Newcastle latest. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (2) (7/1 +13%) Kidman |
7/1(+13%) | (2) Kidman 7/1, Lightly-raced maiden. 33/1, best effort to date over hurdles when second of 4 in novice at Newcastle (22f, good) 15 months ago. Hasn't been since, however, and still has something to find with Myretown. Off 15 months since good 2nd in novice at Newcastle; needs to hit the ground running. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (3) (200/1 -100%) Looking Splendid |
200/1(-100%) | (3) Looking Splendid 200/1, Hasn't shown enough in bumpers to make him of any interest on first go in this discipline. Last in bumper here ten months ago; goes hurdling with lots more required. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (7) (9/2 -80%) Winchmore Hill |
9/2(-80%) | (7) Winchmore Hill 9/2, €68,000 3-y-o, £150,000 5-y-o, Walk In The Park gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/fair chaser Hamundarson and modest hurdler/chase winner around 2½m White Hart Lady. Runner-up sole start in Irish points (Mar 2022). One to note on Rules debut. Runner-up in Irish point in March, 2022; needs considering on his first go over hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (8) (20/1 +50%) Killybegs Jet Lady |
20/1(+50%) | (8) Killybegs Jet Lady 20/1, Successful on last of his 4 starts in Irish points in December last year. Tame displays both starts over hurdles, leaving her with something to prove. A winning Irish pointer but he has failed to show much in two novice hurdles. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (6) (150/1 -50%) Nae Bother At A' |
150/1(-50%) | (6) Nae Bother At A' 150/1, No sign of ability in bumpers and looks up against it switched to hurdling. Son of Yeats who has offered little in three bumper outings thus far. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
It is hard to look past MYRETOWN, who held every chance when coming down at the last in a similar event at Ayr last month and he can make amends for that mishap here. Winchmore Hill finished a neck behind Grade 2-winning novice hurdler Kamsinas in a Loughrea point-to-point in March 2022, after which he was bought by Donald McCain for 150,000 pounds, and he is a fascinating contender on his Rules debut. Kidman has shown some promise over hurdles and completes the shortlist.
MYRETOWN was on the verge of opening his account under Rules when falling late at Ayr and, if none the worse for that, he should be able to gain compensation. Winchmore Hill is an obvious threat as a six-figure recruit from points and Kidman could feature if he's ready to go after a long absence.
Lucinda Russell's winning Irish pointer MYRETOWN looks to have been found an excellent opportunity to get off the mark over hurdles here

Les's Legacy |
(9) (22/1 +12%)22/1(+12%) | (9) Les's Legacy 22/1, Three-time hurdle winner last season. Also twice runner-up at Hexham at the start of the current campaign but operating below his best since, finishing down the field at Musselburgh last month. C&D scorer last season but his form has nosedived this term so others appeal more. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
1st (4) (7/2 +22%) Eloi Du Puy |
7/2(+22%) | (4) Eloi Du Puy 7/2, Has improved since switched to handicaps, completing a hat-trick at up to 21f at the end of 2023. Another creditable effort when second over 23f here last month. Should give another good account. Very good second here lastest; this dual C&D winner ought to be in the shake-up. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
2nd (8) (28/1 -12%) Forged Well |
28/1(-12%) | (8) Forged Well 28/1, Placed on his completed start in Irish points and created a good impression to make a successful Rules debut in a Carlisle novice (19f) in December. Third under a penalty at Newcastle next time but needs to shrug off a very disappointing handicap debut effort there 24 days ago. Won on debut at Carlisle but pulled up at Newcastle latest; needs to get back on track. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
3rd (2) (11/4 +21%) Harper Valley |
11/4(+21%) | (2) Harper Valley 11/4, Third success of a productive season when seeing off 6 rivals over 19f at Catterick 4 weeks ago, kept up to work after drawing clear before 2 out. Still looks nicely treated after a 6 lb rise. Enjoying a fine season and he readily bagged a third victory at Catterick; big shout. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
4th (6) (10/1 -43%) Dream Boy |
10/1(-43%) | (6) Dream Boy 10/1, Successful on last of 3 starts in Irish points and also struck at the third time of asking over hurdles in 2m course maiden (heavy) just after Christmas. Only fourth in a novice here (2m again) since but unexposed now handicapping upped to a trip which should suit. Won here in December and not disgraced here under 7lb pen since; in the mix now h'capping. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
5th (7) (40/1 -150%) Sinndarella |
40/1(-150%) | (7) Sinndarella 40/1, Winner of a Cartmel handicap in August and good third over 23f at Market Rasen 3 months later. Should be competitive if resuming from another break in similar form. Won at Cartmel and backed it up with good Market Rasen third in November; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
6th (3) (9/1 -200%) Fourofakind |
9/1(-200%) | (3) Fourofakind 9/1, Fairly useful form on the Flat in Ireland and dual hurdle winner for this yard, the second success coming in 19.5f Hereford handicap last month. Should remain competitive up 5 lb. Won at Hereford latest; can go well again despite taking a 5lb rise in the weights. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
7th (1) (8/1 +20%) Step Above |
8/1(+20%) | (1) Step Above 8/1, Winning Irish pointer who made a successful hurdles debut at Ayr last season. Hasn't really progressed over fences this term but made a creditable return to hurdles in a first-time visor (retained) when third of 8 over 23f here last month. Claims if he can build on that. Back on track in a first-time visor when third in handicap here; not ruled out. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
8th (5) (5/1 +50%) Kingston Bridge |
5/1(+50%) | (5) Kingston Bridge 5/1, Showed a likeable attitude to get off the mark in a Carlisle maiden (19f) last March. Placed 3 times in handicaps since (including here) but needs to bounce back from a lesser run at Carlisle last month. Tongue tied first time. In good form this term until only sixth at Carlisle last month; sort to bounce back. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
9th (11) (18/1 -13%) Goodtimes Badtimes |
18/1(-13%) | (11) Goodtimes Badtimes 18/1, Consistent in handicaps in 2022 but absent since finishing a close second over 23f here in May of that year. Ryan Mania on yard's other runner and a watching brief is the percentage call after such a long lay-off. Off for 22 months since coming second over 2m6f here; others are preferred this time. |
|||||||||||||||||||||||||||
|PU| (10) (8/1 -7%) Valleyview Tommy |
8/1(-7%) | (10) Valleyview Tommy 8/1, Irish point runner-up and placed in maiden company here (2m) and Musselburgh (2½m) on first 2 outings over hurdles. Only fifth of 8 when stepped up to 3m for last month's handicap debut back at Musselburgh but it's still early days for this 5-y-o. Failed to build on earlier promise with Musselburgh fifth latest; worth another chance. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
In a competitive concluding event, HARPER VALLEY can send punters home on a high. Rebecca Menzies' charge ran out a ready winner over an extended 2m3f at Catterick last month, and the suspicion is a 6lb rise may not be enough to stop him going in again. Dangers aplenty are headed by Fourofakind, who scored narrowly at Hereford, although a 5lb rise may make life tougher. Valleyview Tommy raced too keenly when fifth over 3m at Musselburgh but, provided he settles better, he cannot be dismissed.
HARPER VALLEY impressed with the way he quickly skipped clear at Catterick last time and a 6 lb rise doesn't look enough to stop him. Like the selection, Eloi du Puy has thrived this season and is second choice ahead of Dream Boy, who should be suited by this longer trip now handicapping.
Rebecca Menzies' progressive HARPER VALLEY still looks ahead of his mark despite being raised 6lb for his Catterick win so gets the vote
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
