Great Heart'jac |
(3) (6/1 +0%)6/1(+0%) | (3) Great Heart'jac 6/1, Irish point winner who has landed pair of 2m small-field events at Leicester this term, not having to come off the bridle against a pair of out-of-form rivals last time. 7 lb rise fair enough and will be a major player if taking his chance. Engaged 4.29 Market Rasen Sunday.
1st (5) (0.83/1 +25%) Norley |
0.83/1(+25%) | (5) Norley 0.83/1, Beaten a fair way when second in a 3-runner C&D handicap on chase debut in October but was probably amiss that day and has since scored twice over hurdles, including off a 5 lb higher mark than this at Ludlow last week. Big player if able to back that up returned to fences.
2nd (2) (3/1 +60%) Charles Ritz |
3/1(+60%) | (2) Charles Ritz 3/1, Looked a good staying prospect when scoring on debut over hurdles in a Southwell novice in December 2021. Failed to land a blow starting out in this sphere at Ludlow (2½m, good to soft) recently but he looks a real chasing type and should do better in time.
3rd (4) (5/1 +0%) Cartonne |
5/1(+0%) | (4) Cartonne 5/1, Appeared to go the wrong way over hurdles but good start to life in this sphere when bagging back-to-back handicap chases at Musselburgh. Put in his place by the winner when second at Ludlow (2½m, good to soft) recently but that was still a creditable effort and he's now 2 lb lower.
4th (1) (7/1 -40%) Maninsane |
7/1(-40%) | (1) Maninsane 7/1, Off the mark in this sphere over C&D in November and doubled chase tally with a game performance at Southwell (15.8f, soft) 3 weeks ago. 5 lb rise tolerable and moving back up in trip won't be a problem, so there is plenty of cause for optimism. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
MANINSANE went up 5lb for his most recent success at Southwell and is fancied to go in again. Charlie Longsdon's charge won over C&D in November and this good ground should really suit. Norley, who won easily over hurdles at Ludlow last Monday, is the main danger going back over fences seemingly full of confidence, while it is also worth considering the consistent Cartonne.
It's probably best not to read too much into NORLEY's rather low-key chase debut here during the autumn, and he is appealing back in this sphere off a lower mark than that off which he scored in good style over hurdles at Ludlow last week. Assuming that Great Heart'jac doesn't go to post (due to run at Market Rasen on Sunday) and with Charles Ritz likely to need a stiffer test, Maninsane is second choice ahead of Cartonne.
The return to fences can pay dividends for NORLEY who comes here in good form over hurdles and has a lower chase mark to exploit.

1st (1) (1.1/1 +27%) Brentford Hope |
1.1/1(+27%) | (1) Brentford Hope 1.1/1, Useful Flat performer for Richard Hughes. Changed hands for 90,000 gns and made a winning start in first-time tongue tie in Wincanton maiden hurdle last month. Has more to offer. Well in the mix
2nd (2) (0.73/1 +34%) Impose Toi |
0.73/1(+34%) | (2) Impose Toi 0.73/1, Dual French bumper scorer who got off the mark for his new yard in 4-runner novice hurdle at Exeter (16.7f, good to soft) 31 days ago, scoring with plenty in hand. Open to improvement. Big player.
3rd (4) (20/1 -67%) Angel's Dream |
20/1(-67%) | (4) Angel's Dream 20/1, Debut 13f Flat winner in France in October who made a promising start hurdling when third of 7 in novice at Newbury (16.3f, soft) on NH debut 16 days ago. Should have more to offer.
4th (8) (25/1 -25%) John The Baptist |
25/1(-25%) | (8) John The Baptist 25/1, Fair winner at 7f on Flat who shaped with encouragement when third of 9 in novice hurdle at Ludlow (15.8f, good to soft) 18 days ago. Needs another step forward.
5th (6) (250/1 +0%) Onnaroll |
250/1(+0%) | (6) Onnaroll 250/1, 150/1, pulled up in novice hurdle at Chepstow (16f, good to soft) 143 days ago on final run for Nigel Hawke. Lots more is requied.
6th (3) (200/1 -33%) Alright Chap |
200/1(-33%) | (3) Alright Chap 200/1, Pulled up in novice hurdle (125/1) over C&D on hurdles bow 13 days ago. Lots more is needed.
|PU| (5) (150/1 -200%) Elmejor |
150/1(-200%) | (5) Elmejor 150/1, Modest Flat winner but only sixth of 7 in handicap at Kempton (16f) 65 days ago. Goes hurdling now with more needed. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Brentford Hope got off the mark at the fourth attempt over hurdles when making his debut for Harry Derham at Wincanton and he boasts solid credentials once again. However, this appears to be a tougher assignment with IMPOSE TOI taking him on and Nicky Henderson's gelding, who was an easy winner at Exeter when last seen, may prove too strong for his rivals. Ve Day made a winning start to life over timber at Musselburgh and is capable of being in the mix.
IMPOSE TOI looked a useful prospect when opening his account for Nicky Henderson at Exeter and this dual ex-French bumper winner can fend off Brentford Hope who also looks to have better days ahead of him judged on his stylish Wincanton success. VE Day also has more to offer and appeals as the pick of the rest for place purposes.
It would be a shock if this did not rest between the last-time-out winners. IMPOSE TOI can beat Brentford Hope and VE Day.

1st (2) (3/1 +25%) Kakamora |
3/1(+25%) | (2) Kakamora 3/1, Dual hurdles winner but unable to add to tally over fences since. Been given a chance by the handicapper, though, and shaped as if still in form when fifth at Taunton when last seen in December.
2nd (4) (1.88/1 +6%) Lord Sparky |
1.88/1(+6%) | (4) Lord Sparky 1.88/1, Made it 2-4 for this stable when making all in a 29f amateur rider's handicap at Fakenham on New Year's Day. Unlucky to bump into a very progressive one at Southwell since and can resume winning ways at a track where he goes well.
3rd (1) (6/1 -167%) Luckofthedraw |
6/1(-167%) | (1) Luckofthedraw 6/1, Successful in handicap chases at Fontwell and here (19.9f) last season and back to form last 2 starts, winning 3-runner handicap here (19.9f) last month. Should go well again up 3 lb.
|PU| (5) (2/1 +43%) Dan's Chosen |
2/1(+43%) | (5) Dan's Chosen 2/1, Fair maiden hurdler who has quickly proven better over fences, left with a simple task when off the mark at Fakenham in October. Creditable efforts next 3 starts and still yet to be asked for effort when falling 4 out at Taunton last month. Claims if none the worse.
|PU| (3) (50/1 -25%) Fine Theatre |
50/1(-25%) | (3) Fine Theatre 50/1, Dual hurdles/chase winner for Paul Nolan in Ireland but latest success was back in March 2020 and pulled up both starts for this yard 15 months apart. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
LUCKOFTHEDRAW has returned to form on his last couple of starts when backing up a neck second at Fontwell with a victory here over 2m4f last month. The 10-year-old is worth another try over this distance and gets the vote at the main expense of Lord Sparky, who scored at Fakenham on his penultimate start. Dan's Chosen was a faller on his latest effort at Taunton, but he is more than capable of bouncing back.
LORD SPARKY arrives at the top of his game and can quickly resume winning ways and record a fourth C&D win. Luckofthedraw is another who has a good record here and is feared most back up in trip.
The solid option is course specialist LORD SPARKY (nap) who ran up against an improved one at Southwell last time out.

1st (6) (6.5/1 +19%) Issar d'Airy |
6.5/1(+19%) | (6) Issar d'Airy 6.5/1, Got off the mark at Lingfield and showed improved form under a penalty when a close second at Taunton. Pulled up at Fontwell last time though so needs to get back on track.
2nd (3) (5.5/1 -10%) Halligator |
5.5/1(-10%) | (3) Halligator 5.5/1, Irish bumper scorer who returned to win 2m Uttoxeter maiden hurdle last summer. Posted another good effort after a break when (tongue tied) second in novice hurdle at Wetherby (16f) 35 days ago. Much respected now going into handicaps.
3rd (4) (2.12/1 +53%) Eyed |
2.12/1(+53%) | (4) Eyed 2.12/1, Tongue strap on for 1st time when much improved to land 8-runner handicap hurdle here (19.6f, heavy) 13 days ago. Not dismissed with headgear retained.
4th (7) (4.5/1 +0%) Titanium Bullet |
4.5/1(+0%) | (7) Titanium Bullet 4.5/1, Has progressed with each of his three runs over hurdles, second of 11 in handicap over C&D 46 days ago. Firmly in the picture despite taking a 3 lb rise.
5th (1) (9/1 -13%) Tommy Cullen |
9/1(-13%) | (1) Tommy Cullen 9/1, Got off the mark at third time of asking when easily landing 4-runner novice hurdle over C&D in December. Only seventh at Doncaster sent handicapping following month so has something to prove after his break.
6th (2) (6/1 +67%) Rock On Cowboy |
6/1(+67%) | (2) Rock On Cowboy 6/1, Irish point winner but only fair form shown thus far over hurdles. Out of his depth last time at Doncaster and this is no easy task either.
7th (9) (12/1 -20%) Treefinch |
12/1(-20%) | (9) Treefinch 12/1, Fair form to twice make the frame in maiden/novice hurdles this term but only seventh switched to handicap company at Uttoxeter last time. Others look better treated at these weights. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
EYED attracted significant market support when winning over the extended 2m3f here last month and a subsequent 6lb rise in the handicap might not be enough to stop Paul Webber's charge from repeating the dose. Halligator ran well under a penalty at Wetherby 35 days ago and must be respected on his handicap bow, while Titanium Bullet, who took a marked step forward on what he'd shown so far when filling the runner-up spot over C&D in February, is another to consider.
SWAPPED has got in very lightly for his handicap debut on the back of an eye-catching Plumpton sixth so Nicky Henderson's low-mileage 6-y-o looks the way to go. The progressive Titanium Bullet came in a good C&D second last time and is feared most, with handicap-debutant Halligator hugely repected too.
There is a good chance that HALLIGATOR will find sufficient improvement now that he is stepped up from 2m for this handicap debut.

1st (5) (2/1 +64%) Playtogetaway |
2/1(+64%) | (5) Playtogetaway 2/1, Every chance when falling 2 out on sole start in Irish points and definite promise on second of 3 starts in maiden/novice hurdles at Haydock in December. Good chance he can take a step forward now that he ventures down the handicap route.
2nd (2) (6/1 -33%) Coolnaugh Haze |
6/1(-33%) | (2) Coolnaugh Haze 6/1, Successful in this race off a 1 lb higher mark 12 months ago. Largely below par so far this season but it wouldn't be any great surprise were he to bounce back with a bold show all things considered.
3rd (6) (8/1 +6%) Asa |
8/1(+6%) | (6) Asa 8/1, Third on only run in France last June and, after 5 months off, backed up that effort when second in Leicester juvenile in November (sole outing for Richard Hobson). However, not so good switched to handicaps for this yard since and others make more appeal.
4th (1) (2/1 +27%) Tenfold |
2/1(+27%) | (1) Tenfold 2/1, Went close at Plumpton in February and duly went one better when routing the opposition from the front in a C&D maiden (heavy) 13 days ago. Whether he's a good as he was made to look that day remains to be seen but bold show likely back in handicap company all the same.
|PU| (3) (5/1 +9%) Gilbertina |
5/1(+9%) | (3) Gilbertina 5/1, Improved with a rallying success on return at Market Rasen on Boxing Day. Has backed that up with creditable efforts in defeat at Doncaster the last twice and likely to be in the thick of things once again. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 4 race.
Tenfold proved far too strong for the opposition when bolting up over C&D last month and he makes obvious appeal on the back of that success, but preference is for PATIENT DREAM. The penny would appear to have dropped for him recently, winning back-to-back starts under William Maggs, and he might have what it takes to deal with a further 6lb rise in the handicap. Gilbertina heads the remainder.
With improvement on the cards now pitched into a handicap off a reasonable opening mark, PLAYTOGETAWAY could be the answer to a tight-looking race. It wasn't a bad novice in which he was an encouraging fourth at Haydock in December and he wasn't knocked about at Doncaster subsequently. Tenfold, the hat-trick seeking Patient Dream and Gilbertina all merit respect but Coolnaugh Haze, who landed this race off a 1 lb lower mark last season, is feared most.
Topweight TENFOLD should have more to offer after a recent C&D win. Last year's winner Coolnaugh Haze is next best.

1st (1) (3.5/1 +50%) Head And Heart |
3.5/1(+50%) | (1) Head And Heart 3.5/1, Placed on 2 of her 3 starts in mares' novice hurdles during 2021/22 at around 21f. Never figured from stiff opening mark on return/handicap bow starting out over fences at Exeter (21.6f) in November, though.
2nd (2) (2.25/1 -80%) Brandisova |
2.25/1(-80%) | (2) Brandisova 2.25/1, Just about got the job done when opening hurdles account at the eighth attempt at Fakenham in February Followed up on chase debut over 24.2f at the same course last time and she has to be feared in this bid to complete the hat-trick.
3rd (4) (2.75/1 +63%) Methodtothemagic |
2.75/1(+63%) | (4) Methodtothemagic 2.75/1, Encouraging enough start in this sphere when third of 10 in the Leicester handicap (22.7f, good to soft) won by Mixedwave in February. However, she has failed to build on that since and looks vulnerable.
4th (6) (3/1 +50%) Catlin |
3/1(+50%) | (6) Catlin 3/1, Returned to form when scoring at Newcastle in November. Failed to fire at the same course last time but eased 2 lb since and she won't be far away if she puts her best foot forward.
5th (3) (20/1 +50%) Sei Bella |
20/1(+50%) | (3) Sei Bella 20/1, Proved up to winning a weak novice hurdle at Exeter in October but no show in 3 subsequent starts and looks up against it switched to fences here on the back of a lengthy absence. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
LEGENDARY RHYTHM arrives here on the back of two wins in recent months and a 3lb rise for the latest of those victories may not be enough to stop her from making it a hat-trick. Brandisova has also been in top form of late and is clearly the main threat to the selection. The rest all have questions to answer but Head And Heart is the pick of them.
BRANDISOVA and Legendary Rhythm both arrive here in top form and are probably the pair to concentrate on, for all that an on-song Catlin wouldn't be without a chance. Legendary Rhythm is the more experienced of the two in this sphere and is not passed over lightly but Brandisova got the better of an in-form rival when making a winning chase debut at Fakenham and she is preferred.
Legendary Day has to prove she can stay this far and preference is for BRANDISOVA who beat in-form rivals at Fakenham last time.

1st (7) (3/1 +14%) Rock House |
3/1(+14%) | (7) Rock House 3/1, Easy winner of sole start between the flags last spring. Joined a leading yard as he embarks on a career under Rules and confidence behind this 5-y-o in the betting would look significant.
2nd (2) (4/1 +0%) Bob Bob Ricard |

5th (8) (3/1 -50%) Fierce Warrior |
3/1(-50%) | (8) Fierce Warrior 3/1, €50,000 3-y-o, Sholokhov gelding. Dam (h109) 2½m hurdle winner. Highly respected on debut.

5.5/1(+61%) | (10) Pottersjetamay 5.5/1, €35,000 3-y-o, Jet Away gelding. Half-brother to fair hurdler Under The Woods. Notable newcomer.
7th (3) (66/1 -200%) Bombay Sunset |

8th (9) (28/1 -12%) Japon De Carjac |
28/1(-12%) | (9) Japon De Carjac 28/1, Joshua Tree gelding. Half-brother to fairly useful hurdler/useful chaser Deyrann de Carjac and fair chaser Elite Garde. Has already had a breathing operation.
9th (6) (100/1 -100%) Crookbarrow |
100/1(-100%) | (6) Crookbarrow 100/1, £13,000 5-y-o, Shirocco gelding. Half-brother to 3 winners, including temperamental but fair hurdler/chaser Golanova, stayed 3¼m, and fair hurdler Glocca Mora. Runner-up sole start in point bumpers (Feb 26).
10th (4) (200/1 -300%) Cave Bleu |
200/1(-300%) | (4) Cave Bleu 200/1, LIttle encouragement when fourth at Doncaster first time out and hard to see him featuring in this. |
The chart reads from right to left to today's class 5 race.
Kamsinas sets the standard based on his Kelso win but he could be vulnerable under a 7lb penalty. With that in mind, a chance can be taken with CHAMPETRE, who took a step forward when second at Southwell last time and may have more improvement to come. Bob Bob Ricard is another with valid form claims, while Fierce Warrior and Rock House are newcomers to note.
ROCK HOUSE has been picked up by a top yard after winning a point easily and, if strong in the betting, he's worth chancing to make a successful start under Rules. Fierce Warrior makes plenty of appeal on paper and Kamsinas looks a danger on the back of a comfortable success at Kelso.
It might be worth siding with easy point winner ROCK HOUSE, who is an interesting contender now switched to rules for Dan Skelton.
Ths is the racecard key.

Horse racing is a popular and historic sport in the UK, with a tradition dating back centuries. It is a multi-billion pound industry that attracts millions of spectators each year and generates significant economic activity.
There are two main types of horse racing in the UK: flat racing and jump racing. Flat racing is run on a level course and is typically shorter in distance, while jump racing involves horses jumping over obstacles and is generally longer in distance. Both types of racing are popular with spectators and bettors, and they take place at various racetracks throughout the country.
The most famous horse racing event in the UK is the Grand National, which is held annually at Aintree Racecourse in Liverpool. It is a jump racing event that is known for its challenging course and has become a national institution in the UK. Other notable horse racing events in the UK include the Derby, held at Epsom Downs Racecourse in Surrey, and the Royal Ascot, held at Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire.
Horse racing in the UK is regulated by the British Horseracing Authority (BHA), which sets rules and standards for the industry. It is responsible for the welfare of racehorses and the safety of jockeys and trainers, as well as ensuring fair and transparent racing practices.
In addition to its economic and cultural importance, horse racing in the UK also plays a significant role in the breeding and training of thoroughbred horses. Many of the world's top thoroughbreds are bred and trained in the UK, and the industry plays a vital role in the preservation and promotion of the breed.
Overall, horse racing is an integral part of British culture and a major contributor to the country's economy. It is a thrilling and exciting sport that continues to attract a loyal following and generate significant interest from spectators and bettors around the world.
